That’s the crux of the conversation. One of these Full is not like the other. There are Full servers even with links that are not able to compete against BG. How is this going to be solved?

However, there are a LOT of roamers and militia; they join the guild groups or serve well as scouts since they are always circling maps trying to flips sentries, camps, shrines, and the occasional tower. They will come together for major objective defenses or offensives if a tagged blob shows up.

As I wrote above, BG is really heavy on militia, who are not a transferring population like guilds are.

I moved an account off BG actually because 20 random militia all standing around in EBG keep – no tag – waiting for an enemy server to attack a major objective makes for a rather boring WvW experience. Twenty players is a nice size for an offensively minded, scrappy little zerg in other tiers.

Oh maybe that’s the solution! Remove all accounts that didn’t pick BG at launch!

Maybe, just maybe, the real thing happening here is that NA is supposed to be a bell curve where T2 and T3 are the tiers with the competitively matched server linking teams and T1 and T4 are for the noncompetitive outliers.

Breaking up BG won’t work. Last time I checked BG had about 147K accounts. The WvW community is a very small portion of all those accounts. We’d coordinate, pick a low pop server and absorb their WvW community. Even if we lost some players we’d get some back.

BG has played by the rules since launch. We’ve dealt with win trading, double teams and server linking. We’ve manged to stay on top and played by the rules at the same time. We should be punished for that?

Begging Anet to wipe out a community just because it’s bigger or better than yours is pretty sad. My advice would be to take responsibility and try to strengthen your own community. Another option, and one I think Anet would like a whole lot more than angering one of their biggest servers would be for you and people like you, is to drop $30 and by and alt account. It would help you avoid BG and it would help Anet increase their revenue flow.

Nice spin there, the same “rules” that you play by are the ones that also prevent any other server from competing equally with BG.

You don’t have to break up BG as a server, just the small fraction that plays WvW.

So Anet should change to rules to appease the people who can’t win? Going down that road in any competition will ultimately ruin any game.

Servers can’t win mainly because Anet’s rules prevent equal competition.

This right here. Which again ANet just either needs to do away with the server locks altogether. This will allow other currently full servers to be able to be able to gather BG-like population and coverage

Or Anet can create a monster server linking that has the population and coverage to compete against BG. I don’t think that will work either though. History has shown that it is guilds that transfer, not militia. BG has too large of a non-transferring militia built up over the years that will just stop playing until they get an easier match, which also causes them to come off Full status. It is like that on every server, but in BG’s case they just have the most. Those players aren’t going to be transferring off just because of a match up.

A much more realistic system would be completely new like battlegroups so it doesn’t have the leftover cruft of past transfer exploits.

Reminds me of… I miss Accelerant-Packed Turrets on Engineer. They even completely removed the traited knockback this last balance round for no apparent reason.

I’d expect them to nerf the knockback distance on the tablet like they did to turrets.

If I am a legit player dealing with a ton of Trading Post transactions, I might not want others to see whats in my bank or inventory.

Aside from you being able to restrict those perms, so like 1% of the BG playerbase? If you are that privileged why don’t you pay the TS admins for access?

This is not true, I tried to do the traditional method of getting on the ts manually and letting an admin verify me manually, and was told that they indeed could see that I was on BG (was standing in front of them) and I am rank 700 and they said no you need to use the api key like everyone else, we won’t manually add you. So it really is exclusionary and petty.

And you can call me a troll if u want but it doesn’t change the truth about what I was told or that this system is silly and pointless, and you also didn’t address how any of these nonsensical steps to get into TS stop people from spying. But Yah I’m the troll. Right.

BG is a very large server, but players do leave it. How would a TS administrator know who left in order to remove their access? Before API keys were implemented, one of the things done on my server’s TS to handle the issue was a complete purge of the entire membership group every few months. It meant that everyone had to be manually re-verified which was a big headache to both users and administrators. It also meant that people who were not supposed to have access because they left could still use it for a rather long time without anyone knowing any better, which opens up the potential for spying. Very nice that those days are over with the auto-verify feature. It helps ensure that the membership group stays up-to-date with transfers in and out.

Discord does not integrate with GW2 api. That alone is probably a deal breaker for BG as we’ve developed auto permission system.

That is absolutely not true. There are some really great Discord bots that integrate with GW2 api that we use to do things you cannot even do on TS3.

While some of what the OP talked about can be fixed with l2p, it can’t be argued that there’s been power creep in the game.

True, but the OP is also comparing to the PoF beta stuff which almost invariably is going to get nerfed. Additionally it was the first time we saw all that new stuff, the animations, the effects with barrier, the new teleports, the boon strips/corrupts, etc. That’s the point of the L2P comment. We haven’t yet had a long enough chance to learn to play with and against that new stuff so using it to say HP is too low doesn’t give a good baseline to even build an argument on.

After a few days of WvW: My Verdict

How I would improve it:
-First of all, do not penalize players for dying by giving warscore, and resetting the amount of WXP they get. This will go part of the way to encouraging players not to give ground and prolonging fights. but we need more.

-Always give full credit for killing players, and double the amount of WXP to 120 for such a kill. I get the feeling Anet wants players to care more about objectives than fighting, and while this sounds good on paper, the result is boring and rewards boring play.

Your post had a lot of good stuff. I’d like to address these two ideas though.

1 – For a long time the game did exactly this. There were no points given for killing other players. The issue with this was that it made the game entirely about points for objectives and there was no way to get score other than to ktrain objectives. So no, it didn’t encourage players to do as you suggest it would. The reality is that players will only fight if that’s the kind of WvW they want to play. PPK at least rewards the players who want to fight even if it also rewards blobbing over smaller groups.

2 – Sounds good to me but your suggestion needs to figure out how to not incentivize kill-trading because players will organize to get these kinds of advantages (at one point there were mass kill orgies in Obsidian Sanctum). There’s a kind of diminishing returns on WXP for killing players who have already gotten killed recently for exactly this reason.

There is no voice whisper feature.
There is no nested channel feature.
There is no individual text channel.
Permissions wise is not as extensive as ts3.

The only two good things about discord are the web interface and free.

Discord feels very much like having teamchat outside of the game, a glorified shoutbox, and for that it is wonderful. It allows for rather immediate ad-hoc communication in ways that you cannot use TS3 or a forum for.

One reason I feel that it doesn’t get adopted though is related to how much Discord is designed more for a single team than as a platform for hosting multiple teams; hence why it still lacks CComs.

The other reason is related to how free/easy it is to set up your own Discord server. Discord so far doesn’t give much of a reason why, say a guild, wouldn’t just set up their own Discord versus using a server community Discord.

If Discord were to implement a CComs function and nested channels with some sort of auto-creation of a text channel for voice channels I think we’d see wider migration to it from TS3.

Well….

The trait to recharge the tool belt skills 15% faster is the minor stat on that traitline before they removed major and minor stats from traitlines and completely reworked the trait system.

Remember like you used to get extra ferocity and tool belt recharge from Tools up to 15% if you spent full points into it or power and expertise (condi duration) from Explosives line. Every class had a class mechanic stat on their core class mechanic traitline. This has never changed.

i believe if you have Effect LOD turned on you cant see the new spellbreaker bubble. but if you turn it off there are way too many effects to see anything.

Its solely attributable to the impression players have of BG as a server that they can safely ‘retire’ their account to and come back when they want and know the server will be competitive and with a decent population, thats all.

Agreed. The real way to deal with this “issue” is to take accounts that haven’t been playing in WvW in like two months and mark them as “needing server” before rolling out some new WvW patch that brings a boatload of these accounts back into WvW. This way they must choose a new non-full server to play WvW on.

The disparity between a server’s actual population and their WvW active, regularly playing population is what drives these moments.

I’m more curious how you guys are getting into full servers.

I’ve got friends trying to get into SoS and it’s like, permaclosed for some reason.

I am more curious on how FA stays open when FA got overall more guilds than some “very high” servers. This isn’t unique to FA either, there are some servers like FA too have many guilds.

PS: They aren’t full so I assume you meant how FA isn’t.

The guilds aren’t always large and they’re spread out in different timezones giving FA “just enough” coverage, but not always a 50 man blob to counter servers with blob culture like BG or JQ.

Also FA was Full for like 2 months and only because of an influx of PvE accounts wanting to all try out the new rewards systems. It went back to Very High after the hype died down a bit and 2-3 guilds (maybe around 60 players total) left.

It’s pretty much due to lag. I once had Elixir S last 8 whole seconds during a laggy WvW fight while our guild driver on guardian was in Renewed Focus for 8 seconds too. Sometimes the lag works in your favor and other times not.

Nope. You have to have the runes and infusions in your inventory and then slot them in like normal. Any runes and infusions you had in before get placed in your inventory rather than get overwritten.

I wish game developers would learn from statements like these. Then they won’t be quite so surprised their forums turn into yelling, screaming people who have been reinforced into believing that if you throw a tantrum long and loud enough, you get your way.

What’s funny is this guy didn’t even have an effect due to all his complaining. ArenaNet implemented the constructive suggestion. Logical and practical solutions don’t need emotional outbursts and forum-spamming to make sense.

I agree. Never needed them before – we’ll just go back to organizing parties via TS – and getting rid of them would solve the issue of random player entitlement. Gold nameplates are still easier to see than the squad blue.

tried my f1 pull from my guard, beautifilly killed one who glided. pulls work

I was looking for solutions to gliding blobs. The ballista bounces to only 5 targets and you have to have one of them targeted (not like a flak cannon). Apparently though catapult 1 will CC gliders.

Remember the squad function is relatively new to wvw and the kick/closed function even newer.

The squad function is not new. Squad was always there since launch and always had the squad chat channel with associated /squad commands (/squadinfo was an important tool to determine how much supply your zerg had). You didn’t need permission to join a squad and almost no one did but every once in awhile you’d see someone type in squad chat. It is only since the new UI that random players want to join squads. Before it, players used parties or just went solo and got on TS.

Force Wall doesn't stop gliding players

Just tried using a shield generator’s Force Wall on the edge of the cliff to counter an enemy zerg from gliding into Ogrewatch from Pangloss. It doesn’t work.

False. Tagging mechanics have been the same for years now and no one cared about being in squad before the new UI was introduced. It’s pretty obvious the shiny UI is the reason people want so badly to be in squads now.

Because WXP amounts and loot from killed players is affected by a diminishing returns mechanic.
