The GWAM v. BEAR fight is legendary!
You can say “permanent changes to WvW maps” without having to go into details.
Then we get users qq-ing here about how they don’t like the maps or how some map feature was better before the change and now they’re going to quit the game because the change is so stupid.
You can say “exploring ways to enhance the commander interface” without giving away the farm.
Then we get users qq-ing here about how enhancements were “promised” and why aren’t they done already.
“The mob is fickle”
OCX/SEA on FA fights against these guilds:
SoS: Epic/BEAR/TS/OvO/FUG/PAIN
Mag: KH/TED/ETA/Olaf
Just modify the current borderland maps! Change the design of the objectives. We’ll all be entertained for awhile at trying to figure out new ways to siege and counter-siege.
Mark’s comment tells us nothing, promises nothing and gives away nothing
That’s about as diplomatic a response as is possible when the mob is fickle.
How did players who love the game become a “mob” to you OR to anyone?
Not familiar with the phrase are you?
Mark’s comment tells us nothing, promises nothing and gives away nothing

What they are trying to say is “READ BETWEEN THE LINES”. They don’t really have a problem with necroed threads
Exactly. The problem isn’t necroed threads. The problem is flooding the forum with necroed threads. One could flood the forum with new posts too. The solution is to restrict the offending accounts, not restrict the posting function.
Maybe the issue is that testers were told not to fight each other. Only PvE testing allowed. And the result is a PvE-focused map. Who could’ve seen that coming?
There’s only a kernel of truth there. There was a testing schedule and some of the tests were for exploring the map and attempting to break it so players were asked not to fight each other. Other tests were full-on PvP.
I’m pretty worried about my sylvari engineer. He’s been wanting to change his name recently.
They did fix it. It’s now called bloodlust.
I don’t remember that post. My two cents on it though is that small incremental changes fits the micro-transaction free-to-play business model better. Players in such models want instant gratification, not have to wait for big down-the-road changes. That said, expansion packs like what were done in Guild Wars 1 should not be written off. I don’t understand the perceived aversion to them. Even subscription-based games like WoW sold expansion packs.

Really? You want the orbs back? When there’s still flyhacking?
Well, Lopez, surely you must realize that having these “qualifiers” is not a bad method to weed out the teams and players considering that there’s not a very good method otherwise. We have inexperienced players showing up high in the leaderboards with the current system. How else should teams and players be weeded out?
how about archiving inactive threads instead of threatening to punish users?
Now that’s just silly constructive talk.
Different people? Please, it’s just a handful of people with multiple accounts. As someone else wrote elsewhere, they’re just abusing anonymity to be kittens. This isn’t a democracy, it’s a business. It’s nothing personal. It’s numbers. Stop playing the game if you’re not happy. Stop punishing the rest of us with the kittenbaggery.
It is so cute when people seems to imply that they never listen to feedback.
Every single change made to WvW after release was based on feedback and stuff demanded on these forums.
A progression system in WvW – WXP ranks added.
A new map – EOTM added.
A way to play WvW while maps are queued – EOTM added.
A way to join EB JP without queuing for EB – Make OS a separate map joinable from everywhere.
Able to see queue-size – Add said information to the interface.
A place for GvG – Remove stat-bonuses from OS.How is this not listening to feedback?
Exactly.
You know the upcoming engi balance change with the 6s reveal from Utility Goggles? That was a player-suggested change.
The EOTM red/green/blue set up was also from player feedback. Many who played the beta loved meeting and playing alongside people in guilds from other servers.
You who are mass-necroing threads are doing nothing but misdirecting your anger at employees who are just trying to do their jobs. It’s not going to help. If you are fed up to the point where you’re being a kitten about it, stop playing the game. Uninstall. Move on with your life. Many have already. Follow their example.

TBH the necro-posting is annoying. I’m checking here for new material and all I see is old kitten.
FA doesn’t queue OCX.
Start with some definitions. Many so-called “bunker” builds are more hybrid builds that have more damage than true “bunker” builds.
Ooooo WTB tag “skins”.
“Everyone get on the moose cmdr”
Yes and no. WvW needs some one-shot high profit burst like that to kick the ol’ girl into starting again. It would be a massive one-time gold sink. It would show up as noticeable data for management. And that isn’t a better idea. That’s pay-2-win.
Would read again.
Sell a “raid leader” tag in the gemstore that it only visible to a guild. Roll in profit.
The Agg v. TA GvG had over 1k viewers on the twitch stream, not including the players who fully queued the OS from all three servers.

Please someone post some notes about it. I missed it due to work.
Anyone seen it today and can provide updates?
From the FA shoutbox:
“too bad we can’t put guild mottos on banners in keep/twrs. Imagine us all having #sendmagtoT3 in every banner”
WTB in the gem store.
I personally have bought gems with real money for gold (for craft-leveling a few toons gear for them), several server transfers, a few armor skins, several finishers, a set of town clothes (that didn’t work for awhile in WvW), and toys (that also didn’t work for awhile in WvW).
Why? I can afford to spend the money but not the time to grind PvE over playing WvW.
This topic makes a kittenumption, that it is true that WvW players don’t generate revenue.
My personal belief is that the company isn’t asking the right questions of their data. The long-time near daily WvW players (might as well call yourselves hardcore) are forced to either buy gems for gold or farm gold in PvE to afford WvW. It can then make us look like PvE players. Maybe they break us out from the PvE players and maybe they don’t. Just my belief that they don’t adequately break us out in their analysis.
Or maybe it really is true that we don’t spend as much as PvE players.
This conversation is weird. All my PvE friends tell me to use only zerker in PvE and I’ve rarely felt the need to waste food or wrench on it. My other armor sets are for various WvW roles.
It’s been said a few times on this thread. The 2 servers that are doing the GvG should go to server # 3’s borderland. Windmill is a good spot.. south island is pretty nice. There the will not troll their own server by preventing play in their homeland.
But of course if one of your objectives on that map were to get attacked and you lost it, you would still be here crying.
This comment shows that you have not bothered to understand anything written here.
Well correct me if I’m wrong, but the problem here is that GvG’s take up otherwise “useful” spots creating a queue, and as a result you can’t defend objectives. Or is it something else now that GvG’s cause? All of that can happen on any borderland
No one cares about other borderlands. It was said time and again about the home borderland only. The fact that you ignore these words and come up with yet another post that ignores these words shows your lack of interest in caring about what others are saying. Yes, that can happen on any borderland but NO ONE CARES because the PPT-ers are trying to be respectful of the game mode and are only asking for a little respect back.
Human societies are constructs of social contracts and WvW is no different. There was a social contract on this subject in place in the past pre-OS: the third-server borderland. A small percentage of players, just like in real societies, always test those limits. And just like in real societies, the only way to assert rights and enforce social contracts is with force. And that’s why those that show no mutual respect to the social contract will find their game mode violated. The sandbox nature of WvW allows for it.

What’s interesting to me is the confirmation of my suspicion that Anet misreads their own hard data. Focus on PvE? Because lots of players are playing it! Who plays PvE? Lots of WvW players because WvW rewards are poor and the PvE power creep is real! But the numbers probably don’t show that. Add more PvE!

If you’re in Western Canada and tend to play late NA (I’m on the US West Coast for example), you are better off playing in a higher tier server, like staying on Maguuma. Lower tier servers tend to have less people playing late nights and matching up against a server with better coverage during non-prime NA hours tends to feel empty. Otherwise if you play during NA prime lower tier servers aren’t that bad.
The PvF was good tho no?
I like the other forum for PvF.
lol warriorjrd I feel for you man, can’t imagine how frustrating the lack of intelligence in this thread is for you
The frustration is quickly turning to pity as I realize these people lack and ability to understand common sense.
An appeal to common sense is no excuse for poor communication skills.
http://corkskeptics.org/2011/05/03/the-common-sense-fallacy/
All this conversation has done is devolve into straw men, extreme hypotheticals, and a clear lack of willingness by participants to make attempts to understand each other through acknowledgement of points made. Just now it is a lot of sniping at each other in sarcastic fashion.
The bottom line is that what is good for the goose is good for the gander and the sandbox nature of WvW allows for it. Change strategy? That’s easy and has been done by players in the past: troll the GvG. I’m not a fan of that solution, but it has happened and can happen again. I’ve personally had a GvG I was participating in rolled by a zerg and we were even on the third-server’s BL not causing queues for them. As I wrote previously, respect is earned and goes both ways. I made this statement pre-OS even. Deja vu I guess.
At least recognize that the fault lays squarely with Anet’s lack of a GvG mode.

Sounds more like open field fights than GvG as it has evolved. :p
warriorjrd,
You’re confused. The OP is arguing about something that happened on EBG and you’re conflating that with my descriptions about the borderlands on T2 during NA Prime nightly. Everyone already knows guilds try to GvG in the OS. And everyone knows the guilds that can and do respond when help is needed.
I was pulling arbitrary numbers for an illustration. Even so You can’t count those not logged in, or engaged in GvG. You can only count the number of people you have that are on the map, AND are not invloved in GvG. So whatever number that would be is the only number of people you can count on and plan accordingly for.
OK. Well it sounded like an arbitrary number not reflective of the T2 NA Prime experience. A better number would be 80% “at the fights” and 20% the rest on the map.
BTW, It is extremely ironic that the OP is from the server that zerged FABL when it was queued.
If you have a group of people, and say 20% are not participating in an activity, and some feel that they should, there is still 80% of the group willing to participate. The job is still getting done. Does it make it more difficult for the 80%? Sure. Can it still be done? Of course. Also throw in another group who sole function is to destroy what the 80% is working on does make it harder. But that means the 80% needs to change its strategy to compensate. Thus the 20% don’t really matter because they have no desire to participate.
OK, first off I don’t agree with what Sirbeaumerdier is arguing regarding being part of the score or not so I have no interest in talking about that.
I only want to point out that your argument makes the assumption that the 80% is always free to participate. In the case of what happened one night on FABL, they were not free to participate due to the queue.
Also, for those not playing T2 NA, the percentages are more like 80% GvG guilds and 20% the rest. Most of the time guilds are doing scrims or staring at each other and taking turns engaging then pulling off, not officials. That’s during their raid hours which are typically 3 hours long. And lots of people watching. I suspect that this activity is also somewhat mistakenly being called “GvGs”. Like I wrote earlier, I wasn’t personally there on FABL on Saturday to say if it was that or a real GvG.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
You act like GvG’s happen all the time, and last for 4 hours each.
And you’re not in NA T2.
It isn’t useful to this discussion to draw any sort of analogy between a map being zerged with no opposition due to off-hours nightcapping to a map being zerged when there are potential defenders during prime hours. Player expectations are different in each case due to convention and moreover players have been arguing that there be a solution to night-capping.
There’s a few different discussions going on here.
On FA the event was a map queue on FABL. Defenders were trying to respond to a 30-man zerg but there was a queue because of one or several GvGs and their audience was large. I wasn’t there, but according to the report, no one watching the GvG responded so it ended up being 10 defenders against a 30-man zerg (notice that the GvG guilds were not tying up this zerg?). Most GvG guilds are responsive to defense events like that because they love large fights. So some of the posts seen on this thread are about what happened on FABL and asking guilds to consider avoiding the home BL for GvG. That’s how it was done pre-OS during the golden days of GvG and is not an unreasonable request.
The OP though is not on FA and is talking about something that happened on his server in EBG. FA didn’t really have a problem with it since our concern is more about the home bl being queued.
What hasn’t been spoken about here yet is that there are a select few guilds, which I won’t name here, that have gone out of their way to be hostile towards those that are playing the PPT game. Everyone asks for respect for their preferred game mode and typically it works in a begrudging way but respect is also earned and goes both ways. Echoing nearlight, asking anything of these specific guilds will be pointless. The sandbox nature of WvW simply means that these trolls can and will be trolled back since talk with them is pointless. So please be aware that the majority of GvG guilds are not like that and do give some consideration for the rest of the players on their servers.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
Oh… so that server. Interesting…
I’m kind of curious to know which server the OP is on because a similar discussion came up recently on my server.
Commanders that get frustrated with pugs not on voice comms and running wrong builds aren’t great commanders TBH.
