During the golden days of GvG, pre-Sanctum and pre-bloodlust, when guilds had their own metas and all the good players were still playing GW2, guilds went to the third server’s BL since their spawns were close to the windmill and it didn’t frustrate homeland defense. It worked well for the most part.

LOL XacTactX. I been on IOJ and BP too.
displayname, I speak from my own experience of not having a guild behind me and tagging up to pugmand. Yes, it is not easy, but not impossible either. It takes time to develop a pug following. The lazy will not do it.

It doesn’t matter how much Taimi is a typical Asura, a child doesn’t belong on the battlefield. If they decide to make something happen to Taimi because she is in this group I will won’t care at all because I can’t be invested in a story that is so completely out of touch.
And a child would not be allowed to decide what happens to the effects of the greatest humanoid threat in recent history.
If a soldier (who is not even a child) had discovered Hitler’s secret bunker, it wouldn’t matter if that soldier was a prodigy – he wouldn’t be allowed to say “I’m going to stay here and examine all these artifacts”. He would be required to report it to the authorities who would appoint an experienced and trusted expert to examine them.
Ender’s Game…
Guild recruitment this late into the game is indeed difficult, as you point out, most people are already in guilds they are happy with. Also keep in mind that guilds come and go so you can still get recruits, just the days of the truly large WvW guilds from game launch are over. You shouldn’t be afraid to recruit in PvE maps even with megaserver. You need to get your name out there and familiar in people’s mind. Build a reputation.
People from t2 making it sound like not having a commander on the map is a positive.
Hey I’m in T2 and don’t see it that way. Then again, my voluntary obligation is the health of my server in WvW and not my guild. LOL
Others have provided good answers to your questions. I’m just gonna suggest that you find out if your server has a website because usually server forums have a few posts regarding tips for new commanders. And yes, ask other militia commanders for advice.
Sounds like you got lucky and rolled the less probable combo of exactly two of the same thing.
This conversation got weird. Not sure what you guys are trying to prove.
Bloodletting’s point is that you can make more gold in PvE than in WvW.
TheFamster’s point is that PvE must generate more gem sales than WvW given how much attention is paid to PvE.
Guys, guys. You’re both right. WvW players end up being forced to farm gold in PvE because 1) you can make more gold in it than in WvW and 2) that leads to the false belief that PvE is worth devoting more resources to than WvW. Anet misinterprets their own data. Think about how many posts you’ve seen since game launch asking for better rewards in WvW.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
Re-roll to sylvari and everything will make more sense.
TheFamster,
In the article I linked it talks about how there is always a subset of the playerbase that will spend a lot of real cash. F2P is usually structured where you either spend time (farming gold for gems) or spend money (use real cash to buy gems) – iirc the Wildstar subscription model is somewhat based on this principle. Not everyone cares to spend the time or has the time to spend. Yes, server transfers can be done with gold to gem exchange, but there are a subset of those that are not, they’re done with real cash.
But ever since the introduction of wvw nothing has changed. From the titles to achievement, even for server balances, anet has not responded.
While I wouldn’t say there have been no changes (the removal of server culling was a big deal), us WvW players are perceiving the company response to our instant feedback as “inappropriate” which translates into less revenue, less “bang for their buck” from us.
Yes, that’s exactly what happens when there’s no commander tag on a map and none of those people who go do something else ever step up to buy and run a tag themselves.
I know a lot of guilds like to run without a tag so they can gvg and have fun as a guild in general, i get that, and have no problem with it.
But when its a major guild are you’re the primary zerg in that borderland, would it kill you to stop being such excluding kittens? Throwing on a commander tag gets you all the “pubbies,” yes, but the pug people might just play this game casually and can still be very skilled at wvw. So for the good of your server, just throw a kitten tag on man!
(This forum seems to change every explicit word to kitten…)why dont u tag up instead
Agreed. Just throw a kitten tag on man!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura
“The asura value intelligence and intellectual superiority over all other attributes. Individual asura will dedicate an entire lifespan to building a portfolio of successful projects or becoming the foremost expert of some tiny aspect of the arcane. They constantly seek to prove their own intellectual superiority, and by extension the superiority of the asura race. This typically results in asura being arrogant to the point of rudeness towards others, especially towards non-asura races. The asura have quickly established their intellectual and magical superiority over the other races and view them as useful primarily for heavy lifting, taking risks, and asking stupid questions. "
Taimi to a T.
It is incorrect to say that WvW generates no gem sales. The only reason to transfer servers these days is for WvW, especially pre and post WvW tournament seasons. A subset of those transfers are going to be done using gems bought with real cash.
Second, this seems like as good a topic as any to post this article (it mentions Guild Wars): http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/07/18/should-the-elder-scrolls-online-go-free-to-play
“But while changing to F2P means planning for the future does become harder, it also opens the door to a much faster-paced breed of feedback that, if analysed and reacted to appropriately, enables developers to get the most bang for their buck.”
This line struck me as applicable to Guild Wars 2. Not reacting “appropriately” to feedback from WvW means losing potential profit. Players are a commodity in this model because there’s always a subset of the current playerbase that spends a ton of money. You want to have as many as possible online and playing.

Nothing kittens me off more than a loot bag appearing in mid-air where I jumped. Thank god for AoE pickup now.
Please check out the Fort Aspenwood forum. There are a lot of guilds recruiting.

It was a map glitch, but not like you could actually do anything that would disrupt the matchup.
Are you kidding?
Players on Tier 2 servers are interested in balance matches across ALL timezones. We believe that unbalanced matches are a contributing factor to killing off WvWvW.
Magumma could use some more OCX and Fort Aspenwood could use some more SEA coverage. Sea of Sorrows does not need anymore.

Great fighting OCX guild to join. They have no lack of zergs to bust!
‘On highest settings’ is the problem. Also try adjusting the wvw model number and quality settings on the client.
Or how about the problem is that server populations go up during season? Then after season everyone gets this sense that things are dying because all the achievement chasers go back to PvE and no one bothers to put in any overtime to win and so they leave too.
Solution: as Hamster (iirc) suggested, have WvW weekly achievements like PvE and PvP dailies instead of seasons.
Two weeks ago T2. Much closer than ET/AR/EB two weeks ago.
TC is and was always recruiting. Free transfers helped. So did being known as the unofficial RP server.
t1 is no longer queued almost anytime besides reset.
….
So has t2 NA queues finally be longer than t1 NA queue? if so or even if its semi close, or even if they have the same numbers during NA, doesnt this make them the ultimate hypocrits
Since you had to wait two years into the game after lots of people have left to ask this question, it makes you sound sore about the fact that T1 queued maps in the past while T2 and below didn’t have that experience.
Nah. sPvP is the same as WvW in principle: PPT. And “players capturing objectives and sometimes having incidental combat with other players” is also found in sPvP. Due to the smaller size of an sPvP map and normalized stats and gear, fights feel better, like you need more skill to win them. Roaming in hotjoin where you don’t have to care about the score means you don’t have to run for 5 minutes or more looking for them. You’ll also find zerging or “ktraining” – running to all the points capping and backcapping and avoiding fights just like in WvW.
Mind you, in ranked PvP matches, the competition level goes up. You can’t zerg or ktrain to win and roaming is a dedicated team role, not something you can just choose to do on your own. You have to know both about capping and holding the objectives and winning fights. It’s a much more fun PPT game than WvW because you know that it is a game of teams of equal size and the only coverage issues you have to worry about is when one of your team members dc’s.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
So. A zerg then.
The answer is simple, play sPvP.
I did that when I took a break from WvW for about two months before Season 2. You speak the truth.
Nike Warrior missing from that list.
I usually ask on map if there’s any fights guild there, like HOPE, or pm people I know in those guilds. There’s always something interesting going on where the fights guilds are during prime. They don’t blob roamers down (unless you happen to accidentally be in the wrong place at the wrong time).
FA won’t be “night capping” SoS at reset. Last reset was July 4th and FA has a non-US guild (CL) and non-US commander in a match with DB which notoriously has a weak NA. Of course reset was going to be skewed. The only reason some “for fights” NA guilds went to SOS was because HOPE and NS were the only “for fights” guilds there. But now EA and BMO and Syn are going there. So no, there will be no “night capping” from FA. T2 NA SOS/MAG/FA is (or should be) well balanced. Look at last week’s match.
Maguuma needs OCX! FA needs late SEA.
Don’t listen to this guy. He’s not on FA nor Maguuma. FA and Mag need both OCX and SEA, maybe FA moreso than Mag. I wouldn’t know since I’m not on Maguuma.
Also seeing all MM Necros was fun and very tempting.
You guys missed FA’s 40-man mesmer moa zerg hunt for our former server-mates HOPE last match.
Especially if you are OCX or SEA, then definitely go Mag.
Newp. That’s just wrong. Anyone who paid any attention to the SOS/MAG/FA match last week should know this. Mag and FA could both use a little more OCX/SEA against SOS’s. But we all know that a lot of OCX/SEA players left FA for Mag pre-season and FA’s OCX/SEA had to rebuild internally. The only addition has been the return of NV in OCX, but it still was a net loss for FA.
Let’s just speak about the elephant in the room. The reason roaming seems to suck in T2 is because mostly we’re talking about roaming outside of NA Prime hours. When all the NA Prime guilds call their raids around midnight EST, their members that keep playing tend to blob up into a map-flipping float zerg. The real problem here is that these late night players, for whatever reason, are not organizing their own late night guilds. Instead they just wanna pug.
Those screenshots made me laugh a lot.
Reminds me of the time we built a catapult on top of a wall and I got stuck in the edge of the wall because the cata was built near stairs. Two bugs for the price of one!
“It’s a Charrful Life”
Starring Kovu and the charrs of the Legion. When an exchange student from EA on DB decides to check out T2 for a week, worried that his server will roll another T3 match, he gets the rare chance to see what DB life is like without him.
Cool. I didn’t understand from your first post. You could always pay your own way.
There’s also a bug where you get stuck in a wall or staircase if you are standing in the wrong place when the objective gets capped. Worst thing to happen in the middle of a fight too.
I’m not sure I understand. Your guild was made this offer and some members already left before there was consensus on the offer? That sounds like the end of your guild if that’s the case. Or your guild decided to accept the offer?
I personally have been involved in partially funding transfers from the other side of the table. We didn’t want players to feel beholden by requiring “repayment” through “helping out” in WvW, especially if they ended up not having fun or our community was not the right fit for them. Your game time is your time.
I like both GvG and WvW. No. GvG needs its own game mode.
It sounds like you have a lot of research to do on your own about game mechanics since you are not interested in joining a guild. The official wiki is a great source of information. Here is the link to discussion about gear: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment
Also look in the class subforums on this site because a lot of people post suggested builds with gear to use. Knowing this information will also help you go far in PvE too, especially dungeons and fractals. You’ll be much more efficient at accomplishing tasks in PvE.
The recruitment post is indeed written more towards guilds and not individuals. Many guilds are looking for such information when making their decisions on where to transfer.
If you are an individual looking for an FA guild to join, check out the recruitment posts on the FA forum here: http://www.fort-aspenwood.com/index.php?/forum/16-recruitment/
If you are looking to transfer and wish to remain guildless, we welcome you too no matter your timezone. Typically guild transfers cause tier imbalances, not individuals.
They have to remove borderlands buffs, veteran buffs, ascended stats and foods from WvW first to allow roaming. … It doesn’t fit Gw2’s “fair fight with equal stats” system. It’s just a gear and buff oriented fight. After all of these are fixed, then we can talk about roaming.
Truth spoken. The gear and buff power creep has done more to kill off roaming than the lack of rewards.
why waste peoples time re edit the 1st post to say you dont need more people then.
The first post and title had already been updated with current information prior to your bump. Thanks.
All day er’day.
Be fair now. OP is a PvE-r.
PvE player? Take off the full zerker gear and put on some knights and/or pvt. WvW is attrition warfare: who can survive the longest not who can dps the most. Ensure you have some easy access to swiftness and/or leaps in your build. You get “left behind” because you are slow or don’t/can’t stay on the commander. L2P issue.
2% and 4% chance of the T2 and T3 NA matches we ended up with. Jaw dropped.
