I do not think warriors are OP, at least not that much. The problem is might stacking and how it interacts with the longbow F1.

I personally thing might is too strong. 35 power and condition damage per stack is just… too much

Please do not mix up balance and design.

balance: Oakheart salve is weak for a master major trait because it gives 5s of regeneration every 15s. Compared to other classes similar traits like Dodged march it feels rather weak and uninspired. It needs an additional effect.

As far as the longbow goes, they could just compress the rapid fire ability into a 2,5 second channel instead of 4,5 seconds. Keep overall damage and number of attacks the same but just speed it up.

Bow traits are a mess as is the opening strike mechanic. 3 minors and 1 major for something that is worthless to begin with…

It clears conditions, thats its main selling point other then it being a water field. The heal itself is rather bleh. HS i mean. I however like both. Heal as One is totally useless though. Poor heal, long cast time, no interesting effect.

Pets do not have to have dodge, they should just get a 1 second blur effect when we dodge or use evasion abilities.

Pets should also get the HP buff we got in PvE transferred into WvW as well.

No, it does not work. It can maybe be viable if the whole team puts a lot of effort into it.

However, all of the meta build at the moment are not only viable but VERY RELIABLE.

Actually, the only pet that has an attack per second is the cat. Spiders attack once every 2 seconds or so.

Also, Ranger might have solid damage in facewalk dungeons like CoF 1 or low fractals, but what will happen in instances when it gets 1 hit KOed by AOE it cant dodge??

Do not get me wrong, I love the ranger as it is my main, but the mechanic is so flawed and we are punished because we have a pet with overall lower own damage, utility and absolutely bad traits.

We need work, a lot of work.

Actually, rapid regen ranger is no longer very good. It hasnt changed that much (it got pet damage nerfs, but then it got a mighty swap buff and vigor swap buff). The issue is that they struggle with might stacking elementalists, PU mesmers and PD or SD thieves all of which are prevalent in WvW roaming at the moment.

So no, we are not even top tier in roaming anymore.

You have to consider that at 6 points in BM pets only get 1500 extra HP and not 3000.

The problem with having pets is that not only our single target DPS is lower, our cleave hits less targets and we have very little AOE. Furthermore, our weapon and utility skills are worse off because we have a pet.

It seems to me that every lack of buffs, or any weakness with the class is because we have a pet . I find it insulting.

Ranger has been nerfed considerably several time while other classes got buffed. We are currently at one accepted build which is hanging by a thread as far as viability goes.

But I think we got overtaken by celestial might stacking eles in our close point bunker role as well.

Well the ranger mechanic is the worst because:

1) the character itself is punished damage wise because you always have a pet, which you dont as it dies a lot

2) the AI is really really really bad, and you do not have full control over all of the abilities because its too hard

Well, pet DPS can only be relevant in PvE. In PvP you need effective damage, which cats are terrible at. Dogs and birds would have more effective damage as far as melee pets go.

Out of topic perhaps… I have been dueling in obsidian sanctum for the last few days with different builds. It is scary how we have fallen in our 1v1 performance. There are builds of other classes which we simply cannot touch.

SD and PD thief, PU mesmer, Might stacking Ele be it DD or fresh air. Its sad, simply sad.

actually, reactivating itself on swap is ingenious. Wow, better idea then I suggested. Kudos to you good sir.

It would have excellent synergy with maul or path of scars. Same thing could be applied to pets when they are activated.

Wow, with this, we got ourselves a very nice mechanic.

We have quite a few well designed classes which may be UP or OP depending on number crunching or the meta game.

On the flip side we have the travesty that is the Ranger and the Thief. One is a crippled character because the class is force fed the ball and chain pet which can not be controlled properly with very bad AI. The other is a blend of extremely kittened stealth mechanics and epilepsy inducing teleports and evades.

Timing different combos with Ele or Engi and beating the player or losing against him feels very satisfying. Getting off a successful shatter as a Mesmer feels very rewarding. But, fighting a thief and have absolutely no control over the fight in your hands is, I must say, the worst gaming experience I have ever had in my life.

I find it highly annoying that people want to lower the game skill denominator even further. Seriously? There are many things to do in this game. Hell, we had A LOT of jumping LIVING STORY content in before. I feel absolutely no pity for people who are unable to perform the mandatory 3-4 jumps in this release.

If you cant, then you are not supposed to finish it

On the other hand, we can discuss tastes about puzzles and platforming, but do not mix apples and oranges. Not liking it and not being able to do it are two separate things.

I might have expressed myself poorly. You have far less defensive tools compared to other glass builds.

What are your thoughts of going 30 into WS and 10 into Skirm instead of vice versa? I personally feel that the skirmishing line is horrible trait wise, although not as much as the travesty of our MM minor traits…

PvP and WvW are completely different. In WvW, roaming especially, you usually build selfish and want a sort of an all round build… unless you are thief where u can just go full glass regardless.

In PvP its more about teamplay and covering a specific role. I think that in PvP ranger can cover a couple of them, but the thing is, there are other classes who do it more effectively and with far less effort. There was a power creep of sorts all the while the ranger class kept getting nerfs (pet damage, spirits, etc…).

We will see in the final rounds of the upcoming tournament how our favorite class performs.

A lot of players have said that there are a number of issues within the ranger trait lines. They range from simply being bad to being badly designed. I would like to tackle one of the later.
In my opinion, the opening strike mechanic is not really reliable and in the grater scheme of things does absolutely nothing. 3 minor traits have been wasted, not because the idea itself is bad, but the way it is activated.

The problem lies within the fact that, for the most part, it is only one attack that gets the benefit of 3 minor slots. One attack!!! (ok two if you count the pets initial strike)

Suggestion:

-change the way the activation sequence for the opening strike!!

-instead of affecting the first strike only when entering combat, make it so that every Nth attack is an opening strike or alternatively the first attack is an opening strike, and then you have a cooldown on your UI ticking down seconds until your next attack is an opening strike**

The problems with warriors being OP started with that patch that doubled HS passive, buffed adrenal health and introduced cleansing ire and berserker stance condition immunity.

2 out of 4 would have been enough probably, but they got all 4. So they kind of toned it down, but its far from enough.

HOWEVER!!!! Warrior is well designed, and the imbalance is only within numbers which can be tweaked. So, in the long term, balancing warriors is an easy task, even if it will take some time due to the kittened balance patch release cycle.

The major problems of the game come with some silly design choices. Like stealth, thief initiative no CD skills, ranger pets and so on. To fix these things, irrelevant if they are OP or UP will take considerable effort, which I do not thin ANet will put in.

Warrior is OP by numbers, Thief is broken by design, but not necessarily OP. No cooldowns, super mobility and stealth will always be complained about. And for good reason.
It just makes for unsatisfactory gameplay. *

Birds are better vs thieves and mesmers because you have a limited time frame for your pet to damage them and they do 2 attacks at once. However, they lose damage because of that stupid swiftness buff cast time. Cats are better vs warriors, guardians and other classes with higher defense and no stealth.

I have, however, started using utility pets with a lot of HP more, like spiders and pigs. Pigs are awesome!!

Quite honestly, you take the summoned weapon the Ele made for you, you do the same damage as other classes with said weapon and on top of that you have the pet. And bring frost spirit and spotter, unique buffs.

well u can go full glass and take 6 into WS meaning that you will be able to dodge and take some hits. Reliable condition removal. I say, 6 × 6 x x is quite reliable.

Thats not a damage build, its a bunker of sorts… without any condition removal. But i might have misspoken.

I am looking for a high end power damage build that was used in a high level game by a renown ranger. If it exists. I have tried many variations and i feel as if I am to match other classes damage potential somewhat, my sustain is severely lacking to other DPSers. If I am to match their sustain, my damage is severely lacking.

As the title say, I need some help finding/making a functional power build. Preferably something that was already used to solid effect by a higher level player.

Personally I am at a total loss. I either do not do enough damage but am able to sustain myself a bit or i barely break the other classes sustain wall but if they close on me I just disappear in a flash.
