Please place it on pet swap instead of f2 activation. On swap is far more responsive and it avoids the various differences of pet f2 CDs. It turns it into something far more reliable for team play.
Ty
You are forced to SWORD in PvE as it is the only viable DPS. You are forced to CONDI BUNKER in PvP because power rangers do not exist.
I can argue that warrior, thief and necro are just as brainless as a spirit ranger. Am I rite?
Lots of groups do not even bother to gearcheck or ask what your build is. As soon as they see you are a ranger they kick you. Funnily enough once you run with guildies they love you for being a ranger as they know you are capable and doing the right things.
Having said that, i fully understand pugs. A warriors performance is mostly the same if you are pro or simply smashing your head into the keyboard. So for safety sake, its better to take a warrior
The ranger is fine. Engi and Necro are lacking. The problem is conjured weapons are completely OP at the moment so having an elementalist takes precedence in most dungeon runs
It could be cool. weapon focusing on pet buffing magic and blast finishers
I still can not get over the pet damage nerf?? Like running in circles was to hard….
i demolish them with BM bunker.
Ranger has good condition clear IF we trait for it. But the same goes for any utility actually. If its traited then it can be used otherwise its useless.
That is not something i would run with a pug. You should run that when you can trust the guardian/mesmer/ele to block projectiles. Otherwise SOTBM is invaluable.
Ranger is viable. Try using drakes in melee situations and spiders when the fight calls for ranged weapons.
I would:
-add an internal CD for sigils of battle of 9 seconds
-reduce the bonus 6 set damage from 7% to 4%
For the last few weeks I have run into a lot of people using macros. Most notably elementalist players. They fire off 10 skills in 1 second and insta down me.
Why is this possible LOL?
joust it… as in always be behind it. Also you can reflect its auto attacks
I would like to make a small suggestion for these two traits:
Striders defense – instead of blocking ranged attacks with a 15% chance you and your pet take 15% less damage from ALL attacks when the ranger has a melee weapon equipped
Invigorating bond – instead of an activation with F2 with an internal cooldownn, * invigorating bond activates on PET SWAP* – this goes in line with other BM traits which are mostly ON PET SWAP
Ranger pet needs to be more reliable AND controllable.
Longbow is very good against squishies. Against a bunker there isnt much you can do. The key is to peel them from range with 2-3k auto attack shots. You also have solid life expectancy if you go survival skills.
That being said, inside combat is far superior in this game then ranged combat. If someone gets on you, and most meta builds can, you will lose out to pressure pretty easily once your utilities and pet abilities are on CD.
Trapper was never bad its just that some classes were buffed and became better at spamming AOE conditions while keeping enough of sustain to be better then rangers.
Necromancers and engis come to mind.
I am using shared anguish, OH training, EB, nature bounty, mighty swap, vigorous training and zephyr swap.
Settlers amulet with dwayna runes, sword + torch with geomancy and corruption sigils, axe + dagger with geomancy and energy sigils.
Lynx + wolf.
An alternative is to run wolf and fern and take invigorating bond if you are going mid to fight.
I am running the old school 0 0 6 2 6 BM bunker build. Works wonders for me
Why are high might stacks happening? A combination of battle sigils and strength runes.
I would say, put an ICD of 9 secs on the sigils and nerf the bonus under might from 7 to 4% and see how it goes.
for some reason kitten blade went into kitten blade. Its the autofilter.
Having said that, I ran into a very interesting ranger on the opposing team. He was running, as far as i could tell:
Shortbow and Axe/horn with earth sigils on each, not sure on the other sigils
The trait distribution was 10 10 20 30 0 with bleed stacking traits, wilderness training, XXX and SoTF. Hawk pet.
That guy dished out bleeds like a MFer… But 1v1, BM bunker reigns supreme still!!! It is so satisfying zephyr stomping on swap while your wolfie zephyr howls to clear the area
(edited by Chokolata.1870)
@ kitten blade: If you are using a condition build, especially with Shortbow, it is better to go sharpening stone instead of zephyr because SBow gets a reduced benefit from it. And you will stack far more bleeds with it.
All classes that can build full offense have inbuilt free sustain and/or damage avoidance. Warrior has high HP and armor with a free HS sustain and adrenal health from traits. Very good condition removal and condition/damage immunity.
Thief fully dictates the tempo of the fight, although stealth has a no capping downside in PvP.
Mesmer is full of teleports, blocks and evades. Mediguard has a lot of blocks and traited healing. Elementalist also has solid defensive cooldowns and the damage is so HUGE it actually seems like a good payoff to lose defensive stats.
Ranger…. has … nothing of this sort. We can bunker up well, but our ammulet, rune, trait AND weapon choices need to all be bunker. Our damage comes from a combined effort of condition spamm and pet. This is why bunker builds work for ranger. Spirits are just a variation on this.
Power builds require 3 things. Burst, innate sustain and survivability. SoTF has added survivability but we still lack burst and innate sustain.
The simple way to fix burst would be to compress/speed up rapid fire. Just reduce its cast time from 4.5 to 2.5 seconds while keeping the number of hits and damage the same. Barrage is a whole other thing. Should it mirror meteor shower? should it be a one time shot? Hell, it can even be an anti boon ability!!
And what is left is innate sustain….
Actually, you guys are always thinking in terms of offence. The main weakness of Nature Voice shout builds, as has been proven already, is actually killing the pet. Kill the pet and the whole build goes down the drain as you cant proc NVoice or EBond.
Taking out a DPS pet or a wolf is kitten easy and the pet should be the main target for anyone seeing a natures voice proc. The bear dirrectly remedies this, so i sort of understand why.
Having said that, i would never run protect me with this build. It plays dirrectly into the weakness of this build. Maybe if its small scale combat and u cancel its effect when the pet reaches 50% HP or so.
Honestly, i would play spiders. They are obnoxious to deal with especially if you keep moving them around with Guard stealth. And ditch protect me for Sick em. Spiders are a guaranteed hit as they are ranged, and 40% extra damage from them 1/3rd of the time seems ok to me.
Quite honestly, hunters call and some traps seem the best place to fit it. The traps are lacking in general.
Frost trap should apply chill AND weakness
Vipers nest should apply poison AND 2 stacks of torment
Flame trap should apply a blind effect when its first activated as well
Spike trap should do significantly more physical damage when activated
Cooldowns should be adjusted and normalized
I have been playing the BM spec old school style for a good 10 days now and I have had good success.
It is true that our pet damage has been nerfed, but after that we got a solid mighty swap buff that is now working on us, and vigorous training works on all families.
I am actually using quickness swap too, as 3 seconds is enough time for a quick rez/stomp.
Now, if we want a beastmaster supporty build i would suggest using HS with runes of water(it adds a 1k+ AOE heal) and the fern hound with the new BM trait. From those 2 you will get a clear 4000ish AOE heal every 30 seconds on top of regen and condi removal.
I think its time to bring back the old beastmaster spec.
Why does minionmancer actualy exist as a viable build. I thought the BM ranger was considered a crutch build but this is no brainness taken to another level. Jesus
I misspoke, I actually meant allowed instead of required.
There is only one specific instance where you are actually required to play bearbow:
Harpy fractal TOM fight. U stand on the fan shooting with your short/longbow while your bear melees. Everyone else stacks behind the bear at max melee range and are immune to Toms green spin projectiles. Thats it!!!
I am just curious to know; Is anyone playing the old school BM build?
It seems as if it has fallen under the radar after all the pet damage nerfs, but since then vigorous training was given to any pet family, mighty swap was buffed and now runes of dwayna are granting much longer regeneration duration alongside a reliable regeneration proc. Also, pets are hitting their F2s far more reliably. We are even able to run double on swap sigils perhaps comboing geomancy and hydromancy or battle.
Hell, maybe even use invigorating bond if we are planing to do team fights with a wolf and fern hound (1000+regen from fernhound + 2000k heals from IBond).
I am hoping for a rise in popularity as this is the single most amusing ranger build in the game.
As the title says. I am sick and tired of playing against no brain ultra safe stealth and teleport spammers. It is bunker up or die. I know that the condition/sustain metagame is rampant at the moment, but there is a reason for that.
Namely, the THIEF counters every single glass cannon build. To a lesser extent the mesmer as well. This led to bunker conditions which led to overbuffing of warriors. The thief is toxic and backstabbing, stealth spamming and heartseeker is totally dumb to play against.
Ty for reading
Rangers are quite good in PvE and dungeons. If you use the proper builds that is.
Read the Wind is actually very very good. I mean reliable 2k+ hits at 1500+ range is good. Should it be on the LB by default, thats another question entirely.
Survival of the Fittest is godmode.
ok ty. my concern has been answered
This new trait does not seem to affect the ranger itself. Is this a bug or intended? If its intended then its completely useless
I think a 30 0 10 30 0 power build will be pretty solid.
I can beat most necros pretty easily. Combination of EB and HS is more then enough condi removal
Legendaries should not be part of it. It devalues them.
I am currently using a spirit ranger 0 0 30 30 10 build with mighty swap and sun and stone spirit.
I am also using OH training with sword+horn and axe+torch combo with having sigils on battle on each weapon set.
The combo goes with jungle stalker and 4 altruism and 2 water runes.
In essence, my horn 5 gives 24 second duration buffs on a 28 second cooldown which is almost perma fury. I can use my jungle stalker and fire field blast to get my pet might up to 21 instantly while keeping long fury and swiftness on it. On myself i can keep 10-19 might stacks depending on timing.
From healing spring i gain almost perma regen and my protection on dodge is 3 seconds and protection from stone spirit 4.5 seconds.
The cornerstone of this is the extra 30% boon duration i get from mixing runes along with 30% from NM line.
Can it be just a flat 15% damage taken reduction?
From what i have seen on the Ready Up, the low end bonuses are much weaker now then they used to be. Specifically for the rune of the monk the second bonus is only 5% boon duration down from 15%. If this is applied to all similar runes then mixing 2 sets to gain up to 30% boon duration from runes seems no longer possible.
This is such a downer for me as it messes with options and completely wrecks my build that has many components that work well together all relying on that extra boon duration.
Sigh
Read the wind does not increase potential max damage but it does increase effective damage. I like the survival of the fittest as it will make for some interesting power builds.
I am starting to see some logic behind all of this… but the skirmishing new GM seems pointless.
Which puts it at 1 balance patch every half a year. Jesus….
Wow really? Can they be any slower?
Small simple question: When can we expect a balance patch?
@Tobias: How dare you blame it on the posters?? The topic was poorly moderated from the get go and we had zero feedback on the developer side of things. Never did we get a “we are considering this and that” and the closest thing to a proper interaction was a gathered list that will be shown to the developers.
Im calling it now. Next patch will be a net nerf to the ranger
so whats the build then?
Where is the Admiral. I have never seen him thus far for all my time spent in LA.
