was cat auto attack damage nerfed?? If so, why was it not in the patch notes???
they really nerfed cat auto attack ?? srsly ?? why would they do that ?
except BM builds were not OP in PvP either , or you would have seen them used in top level teams
I think Water or Altruism runes would be far better then Forge . Far more group utility and you get 15% on all boon durations instead of simply on the one specific boon type
i dont think Cat bite was nerfed . Only Cat Maul . They nerfed bite from dogs and dragons
Hey guys , after first reading the patch notes i was in a state of shock regarding the complete lack of thought on the developers part , and yelled and cursed at them . But after talking to some of my fellow rangers, i have come the conclusion that is , in fact , I who am in the wrong . Maybe , just maybe , this is the first step to further tweaks for the Ranger yet to come , whatever they may be … One can hope .
So having this in mind , i have decided to compile a smallish list of things that i have been thinking about on ranger traits and some other things to improve the class and make it a bit more reliable in all avenues of play without stepping on things that are obviously the developers cemented designed choices .
Pets hitting moving targets
-Set up pet attack range to 30 but maximum attack range to 130 . This way pets that start their attack animation will hit moving targets more reliably if their attack animation is fast enough , and you wont be able to simply circle strafe them all the time . One would have to use more cripples, slows or dodges and not ignore it anymore .
I feel as if this would be in line with the toning down of pet burst that is obviously in the works , but would add considerable reliability to the mechanic
torch
-give a BLIND to the “throw torch” skill
-perhaps give “vigor or retaliation” for a few seconds when staying inside “bonfire”
shortbow
-if the range nerf holds true , then the bow has not been compensated fairly well . Perhaps give a cooldown reduction buff to some of its abilities like “evasive shot” or “crippling shot”
Imho , the torch is fairly one-dimensional . It is apply burning, and then apply more burning . Far from being a bad weapon , i just feel as if it needs a bit more OOOMPH to it to make it a bit more tactical .
traits
-combine “speed training” and “commanding voice” into a single trait
-“masters bond” gives a flat 10% PRIMARY stat bonus of the rangers stats to the pet thus fixing pet non scalability in PvE and WvW . This would be by definition nerfed in PvP as there is far less total stats available there .
-move “expertise training” (pet condition damage trait) into beastmastery and buff it and “compassion training” to give a 500 instead of a 350 bonus
-remove family requirements from the master traits in the BM line . Rending attacks no longer need to crit for bleed
This would , of course require a new WS adept trait , but i wont be going into that

I will stay beastmaster with cats , only maul got a nerf . I will just play better :p
Try switching the Runes for Runes of Altruism . You already have perma regeneration, so adding those would give 15% boon duration across the board, healing power and fury and might on heal . This is a MASSIVE pet buff through fortified bonds
i dont mind the trait changes in beastmastery however, this means quickness stomps are back as 3 seconds is more then enough time for it
GW2 IS NOT ONLY PVP . who gives a kitten about pvp balance, the mode in itself is irrelevant and very poorly designed . There are artificial limiters in the form of maximum available stats through amulets that is much lower then in WvW or PvE, and you are forced to fight on point .
OFC pets are stronger in PvP because of it and maybe they should be nerfed , but if this applies to the game as a whole rangers become weaker in game modes there were already poor in .
they need to make the family traits not be family anymore . That would massively improve the choice and combos for pets . Perhaps even buff the condition and healing stats traits for pets from 350 to say 500 or 600

its a huge nerf when doing the role the shortbow is intended for , CHASING PEOPLE . you wont be able to chase down people anymore . Couple it with the massive leash nerf and we lost one of the main roles rangers have in WvW
The big nerf did not come in the form of pet damage reductions , because pets still work as they did before even with lower damage . The big nerf came in the form of LEASH RANGE.
Does anyone even consider how much pressure loss this will be for the ranger and how easier it will be for the mobile classes to kitten up pet behavior but dotting in and out of leash range ??
That loss of pressure due to not being able to pursue and damage lost because of transit will be far more devastating to the class then any numbers tweak on DPS or burst .
Honestly, BM ranger is not that great in PvP .How many top tier PvP teams run BM rangers? Sure, a lot of people have been using BM rangers in lower ranked PvP games, but why would you nerf a class across the whole game , because on the noob side of the smallest % of the playerbase people could not circle strafe pets .
On a side note . Why is noone complaining about bunker dagger-dagger elementalist damage , or offtank dagger-pistol thief damage and survivability ???
This is a premium example of double standards .

3 seconds , it got buffed, 3 seconds is enough for a stomp but 2 was not
Shortbow :
-corssfire no longer needs the flanking prerequisite to apply bleeds
Torch :
-throw torch applies blind for 5 seconds
Spirits :
-spirits are invulnerable to damage
Pets :
-pets will initiate hits at 30 not 130 range while keeping 130 range the max attack range , hence not miss when attacking moving targets as much
Ranger power benefit ratios increased

Where does it say that cain main attack was nerfed . I know dogs got nerfed in the main attack , cats only with maul … i am confused ..
These changes are bad if true . They gutted dps pet damage , reduced leash range , gutted the short bow and gave no real compensation otherwise . The ranger was middle tier , and saw very limited use in tournaments . Couple this with buffs other classes got and we are in for a rough patch

i absolutely love the sword auto attack . It does not root you , it locks you on . Its a tactical weapon , not a button masher 100% . However once you deem necessary , mash away
Stealth needs to have a bigger drawback . Other segments of the thief class need a boost to open up new builds .
Actually, a shortbow and longbow combination can work really well against any class that does not have stealth . The problem is with thieves and mesmers because the only counter to stealth is taking guesses and swinging and throwing AOE . You cant really do that with bows

I have a problem with the fact that when you get to a certain level, u are compelled to go berserker gear , and i fear this limits compositions .
Also, the rewards are pretty poor . RNG on such difficult content is never a good idea, and replayability value should be in the rewards not a chance for a skin

It depends on the definition of support . Warrior may as well be a bad pure boon support , but a bad tank, i think not .
Warrior can be a great offensive tank . Hammer and dual maces come to mind . Lots of stuns , interrupts , knockdowns and the like . And a good amount of natural vitality and toughness . This game offers lots of opportunity for hyperbole builds , but seeing how most people play cookie cutter, you are expected to as well, otherwise you wont be able to PuG instance content .
Therein lies the problem .
actually , u can easily use the SB as a melee weapon . You can shotgun the poison volley just as you can split blade , you have an evade as well , you have a cripple , and you trade a freeze and weakness for an interrupt . You also trade some damage for range and versatility in chasing .
It depends on the preference imo, both can work but for pure shortranged duels , axe+dagger is really strong
do ranger bunkers really need a nerf outside of PvP ? I am not even convinced they need a nerf in PvP either . There are clear builds from other classes that can demolish rangers.

if they start losing they run away and you cant do anything about it
make the pet hit moving targers reliably, then you can lower burst somewhat
We dont know how big the nerf is , or if its SPVP only or not .
The best dungeon they made so far has been the Molten facility , but sadly it was a living story one . Even if a bit to easy, i felt that every mob encounter was fun, and the boss mechanics were very fun . The rewards were quite cool as well .
I am very annoyed, yet i accept my class for what it is, and i fully enjoy playing it . As far as I am concerned, we should all wait to hear where the change will be happening . If its only PvP , then i am ok with it . But honestly, pets need to not die in one hit in dungeons, even if you micro manage them, and they need to not miss people when they just strafe in a circle. Pets should be treated as a dangerous thing and played against , not just circle-farkked

or make the pet hit 100% unless you slow it, cripple it, stun it or dodge it. Then nerf damage. Otherwise the pet damage goes from epic , vs noobs, to nonexistant , vs normal people

Neither me nor anyone in the zerg who did the Queen got the achievement . We were in overflow however, so i dont know . We got the chests , however
Low level fractals you can do with whatever, mid level fractals you can do with whatever. High fractals you wont be able to do because noone will take rangers.

i always thought the pets were UP and needed a buff, which they got last time . Then again , these are the same designers who say thieves and stealth are working as intended
It all depends on how big the nerf is . If its 10% then its fine , if its 20% + then its really not and we should all be switching classes .
To balance the thief they need to break then remake the whole class . Which is not gonna happen as ANet are pretty happy with where thieves are , they even mentioned damage buffs to the defensive style thieves in one of the previous SOTGs .
Sadly , we are being trolled by a completely broken mechanic that is apparently working as intended . One can still hope however…
