For top PvP players, what are your keybinds?

Choops.3710

I’m curious what the top players have for their keybinds. I want to become more efficient in playing the game by tweaking my keybindings.

I don’t think if you change your keybinds you will become a better player, just try to see what keybinds are the most easier FOR YOU. And don’t forget that some players are playing in QWERTY/AZERTY.

I’m trying to grab some ideas from pro players. I do have my own binds, and I based it around Taugrim’s set-up.

Also, I’m curious if any pros have given up on the “forward button” or “W”, and if they use LMB+RMB to move forward. In my binds, I scrapped the forward button. And I went to the extreme by scrapping the “back button” or “S”, and turned it into dodge.

I too used to use Taugrim’s set-up but even with a dodge button hotkeyed, I found myself missing the double tap directional dodge, so I threw S back in there. I feel like scrapping the forward button and using the mouse buttons for movement would be a huge disadvantage for profs/skills that use ground targeting, as most of the time in PvP not moving = dead.

Regarding mesmers - glimpse into balance/QQ!

Very well written post with a few things that everyone should take into consideration. @Khyras there’s nothing wrong with using your mouse to target the real mesmer, at least to get your call target on him. Even as a GC Engi, I don’t mind not attacking, possibly eating some damage, or blocking for a couple of seconds just to make sure I have the right mes targeted. As DX has already pointed, relying on tab targeting will open you up to the possibility of targeting a clone/phantasm instead.

#2 downed skills

in PvP

Posted by: Choops.3710

Choops.3710

You were making it out as being downed as an engineer is auto-lose.

I gave you an example of how you are wrong.
If being downed vs another downed is common enough for you to warrant making a thread, one utility skill seems like a fair trade to win all of these.

Not exactly a great argument, as it’s a toolbelt skill on a decently long CD attached to a sub-par stunbreak that would consume one of our all too precious utility slots that we’re already using 1 of to have as many attacks as other professions. Plus other professions have access to similar abilities. This is a discussion about downed abilities, not ways to prevent being downed.

Fighting Melee Mesmers. (Balance Issue)

in PvP

Choops.3710

No. And before you start with the cheap shots (I know you are good at them). Understand that a warrior archetype class never appealed to me in any game I have played. So I am not going to drop a class I enjoy to start playing one to prove a point to some online tough guy. Also I’ll have you know that my second favorite class after Mesmer is Engi. I find both classes a unique and challenging play experience. And I have degraded my comments to the one above because when I try to give constructive advice or advice from fighting a certain class as a Mesmer or giving people advice on how to fight mesmers it is met with nothing but back lash from people such as yourself. I don’t PvP much and the main reason I post here is because Anet obviously listens to the person that whines the most so I am trying to do something for my class that seems to be the flavor of the month for qq’s every month. It’s just ridiculous. And to the OP with the whole targeting nightmare. Okay you have to press tab more than once. Fighting other players is easier if you have a cool mind and maintain battlefield awareness. I find fighting engi’s to be chaotic… Not annoying but chaotic to be sure especially because you never really know what they are going to throw at you next. But honestly I just want to play the game and have fun. You guys have fun qqing about the next flavor of the month OP class. I hear kittening about d/d ele’s is in. have fun with that!

lol, I don’t really get how I’m cheap shotting you. I just think you’re being blind to how many options your profession has. I’ve run into you in a few different threads and you consistently post like mesmers are in this terrible state and if any balancing changes are made that might make your prof of choice the slightest bit less effective, mesmers as we know them will cease to exist. Your shot at GS Warriors was laughable because playing one and being able to stay alive takes much more skill IMO than running a mesmer. I’m not QQing, but when you make blatantly wrong points about how conditions chew through mesmers, it’s ridiculous and it needs to be pointed out that you’re incorrect. I guess it all comes down to everyone has their own opinion based on their own experiences. I just don’t think your opinion is as valuable as a lot of other people’s in this thread because by your own admission you don’t PvP much, so I can’t help but wonder how can you adequately weigh in on balance issues in PvP?

#2 downed skills

in PvP

Posted by: Choops.3710

Choops.3710

I suggest same downedskills for all classes, so it is fair already. Same as i suggest same underwatercombat-skills for all, to make it fair. Just saying.

Make this happen and by the way, make it so that light/med/heavy armor all gives the same defence. Seriously, thats only a few of the advantages of being light armor and you want to take it away, imo heavy armor classes shouldnt have any stomp saver at all considering how overpowered they are and have no draw backs for using heavy armor, only advantages. Stop qqing.

what…. what is this….

I wonder what they were thinking for the kit refinement on med kit.

Interesting. That’d be a GREAT place to take an unimaginative skill out and put a stun break in. Obviously it’d need more of a cooldown, but imagine a “stim” that cures one condition and breaks stun. That’d free up a utility slot right there for anyone using refinement and med kit.

eh, that still wouldnt be a good enough reason for me to not take a stun breaker for 2 reasons.

1)You go into medkit too often to use your medpacks / peram swiftness so you would essentially waste your stun breaker and be caught off guard without it often.

2) Stun breaks that only simply break the stun and nothing else usually never save you because of multi stuns / stuns like basilisk venom.

I would still feel the need to take elixir s

Elixir S is amazing, can’t leave home without it. I don’t see why kit refinement for medkit doesn’t just cleanse a condition, or give regen, or, you know, something somewhat associated with what medkit is for lol

No choops you are being illogical here! Obviously bandaids are made to explode, never question ANET logic.

Oh wow… well here I will post this again seeing as people still can’t figure out how ANet wants this class to perform.

Jonathan Sharp
•Mesmers rely on illusions in order to accomplish their goals. They need illusions to accomplish some of their highest damage and control, and without the illusions, they become fairly fragile. They can deal with enemy boons better than most classes, but enemy conditions can often be a problem. They share some of the stealth and mobility that the Thief enjoys, but suffer from a low health pool if you get past all their tricks.

And he’s right enemy conditions ARE A PROBLEM FOR US. We have 3 ways to handle conditions
Arcane thievery Send 3 conditions to opponent get 3 boons. Meh Short range and might work might not

Null field: A glamour field that removes all conditions from allies and all boons from enemies (1 condition/boon per pulse if we can stay in it long enough we get 6 seconds IF!)

Mantra of resolve: total of 4 conditions but if it gets used up mantra’s have our longest cast times.

Website Description
Mesmers are magical duelists who wield deception as a weapon. Using powerful illusions, clones, and phantasmal magic to confuse and distract their foes, mesmers make sure every fight is balanced in their favor and their opponents can’t believe their eyes

So stop with the outrageous demands for mesmers to STILL get nerfed or lose clones or something. It is L2P. I have plenty of advice and other mesmers do as well!

You made this same argument a few weeks ago when you were lamenting the plight of the poor mesmer and it appears it’s yet again time to remind you of phantasmal disenchanter, which you swear never works, butttttt I tested last week and it’s amazing. A phantasm that gets rid of conditions on you and boons on enemies on a 20 sec CD. For my utilities on my test mesmer I ran PD, Null Field and Blink for the stun break. Can’t say condition damage was ever a problem, though I suppose I should say I ran a phantasm build, so that may affect it somehow, can’t say for sure. Condition removal is there in spades.

Hope this helps!

Haha, I just switched my keybinds to this exact set up….I also play an engineer. Great minds think alike apparently.

Are there still "weak" professions in sPvP?

in PvP

Posted by: Choops.3710

Choops.3710

I’m going to make the (undoubtedly unpopular) argument that Thief is a pretty kittenty class in sPvP. Their only current effective role is burst, and while they can do it well, it makes the class horrifically predictable, and BORING to play. In any sort of organized play, your survival mechanic is either “Do a ton of damage and escape”, or “Hope someone more threatening than you is targeted, and there isn’t a ton of AoE going off between you and your target”.

There’s little point in playing S/D, S/P, P/D, or P/P. Sword mainhand can work to varying degrees, but its clearly not as powerful as Dagger mainhand. Without stealth, S/P loses access to ALL of a thief’s defensive traits, stealth in general, and has less burst. S/D has all the positional requirements and high Init costs of D/D, without any of the damage – sure, you can use the daze in a coordinated environment, but you’ll often find a nasty backstab followed by HS on a target being FFd works just as well in most situations, and is better generally as well. P/P is useless, and P/D is WAY too slow, predictable, and easily countered for tourney use, not to mention the spec relies on using stealth as much as possible, making it a sub-par choice for conquest play. On top of that, no immunity skill and generally poor defensive abilities outside of stealth make D/D or D/P the very, very clear choice. They’re predictable and pretty easily countered by any player with half a brain, so if you don’t seriously gimp your target on opening, its generally a downhill battle from there, IMO of course.

Let’s also mention that we have 2 utility lines that are generally acknowledged as underpowered – traps and venoms. Both need some serious tweaking to compete with our other utilities.

just lol. The only effective role you have may be burst, but good news, you do it extremely well. You have ways to reset fights, you have insane mobility allowing you to get to the top of structures in an instant, despite similar type skills not working like that for other professions and of course you have stealth. 2 useless utility lines you say? Engineer’s turrets and gadgets say hello. Should there be more diversity in builds? Yes, of course, for everyone. But the whole ‘thieves are kitten in PvP’ argument is just lol worthy. You’re pigeonholed, but you’re extremely good at the thing you’re pigeonholed into. Other professions wish they could say the same.

Right now ANET is being a bunch of pathetic preachers saying that “You have to have broken classes like Mesmers and Ele’s and you have to use Time Warp + Mist Form to satisfy Temple’s ‘objectives’ or you will not succeed.”

If you don’t see the current “competitive-ness” right now, its god pathetic and is close to what I just described.

I’m talking exclusively about using quickness, not in combo with ele. It could be time warp and elixir s for engi and be the same thing. Other classes have access to quickness. Apparently you’re not understanding what I’m saying

Mesmer is arguably the hardest class for an Engi to beat, so at the level of play that Teldo is in, I’m sure the mes is skilled, either way, there’s no doubting that Teldo plays the kitten out of his Engi. This isn’t a 1v1 build, if you can get the drop on a mes and take him unaware, most of the time if you land the combo they’re down in under a sec, GG. The classes I have the most problems with are Eles and Guards, specifically guards. The almost constant retaliation they have up is our hard counter for this build. You can either wait til it’s gone or risk bursting yourself into the grave.

Like ManCaptain said, a lot of it revolves around not getting hit. If I’m using my TK it means that my nade combo is on CD, and I’ll usually start casting Prybar on my way towards the enemy so by the time I get there it’s hit them, throw down caltrops, use shield block, switch to rifle and it’s kiting time, net shot, overcharge shot, etc. I’ve had much more success running a glass engi than I ever did running glass any other class, though a lot of that may be that I’ve been playing engi since launch and am quite familiar and comfortable with the class. You don’t bring ‘proofs’ (lol), you bring a crap attitude and a few youtube links. I don’t have evidence, I merely have my opinion, which is what we were doing, sharing our opinions. It’s my opinion that a few builds of ele can pretty much dip in a bit of everything without really being penalized for it. Same thing with mesmers. Again. This is my opinion, so before you get a hard on about how you’re going throw my own words against me, I’m allowed to share my opinion without being crushed under the weight of your tremendous d-baggery. I play an engineer, I’m not looking for the easy faceroll experience or the one that gets me l33t deeps. I played all the classes, engi was the most fun one for me, and I stuck with it. Do I do pretty well in PvP? Yeah, for the most part I would say I do. Do I think that engis are on par with other professions out there? No, I don’t. Again, this is my opinion, but I see match makeups consisting pretty much of 60% mesmers and thieves time and time again, with necros and engis being nowhere near as represented. This could be coincidence that every hotjoin/tourney I’ve played since the game came out has this going for it, or it could be indicative of something else. Just an opinion.

This went pretty much like I thought it would. Civilized discussion about what constitutes being ‘OP’ turns into elitist kitten shows up and tells us all to l2p. Might as well /closethread

Extra 10 skills? You are wrong, saying that is OP, because, having those ‘extra’ skills is actually our special class skill, just like mesmers have extra 4 skills, warriors and thieves 1 extra skill and so on. On top of that each skill is actually weaker than any of the ‘non op’ classes skills, thats why eles needs them all.

Oh hai, engineers would like to have a chat lol. We need to give up a utility slot to have at least as many weapon skills as everyone else. I suppose this is where someone can point out our 80% useless toolbelt skills that are completely tied to our utility/kit choices and can’t be interchanged, but I hardly think it’s adequate. I agree with you that compared to most other classes this is your mechanic and not OP, but coming from the perspective of the other ‘versatile’ (lol) profession, we’re jelly. Like. Really jelly, lol

Is 100nades TOO powerful? Discuss.

If it were guaranteed burst, I could see someone screaming OP, but the amount of things that can go wrong makes it unreliable. After playing this build the last few days, it’s difficult to consistently land, between magnet pulls that don’t actually pull the person all the way to you, or miss completely due to our good friend ‘obstructed’. Net shot, same thing. Plus if any part of it misses and you don’t have them whittled down to almost nothing, you immediately need to go on the defensive, and although there are quite a few tools to do that, your lack of toughness is going to make sure you drop quick. I originally thought this build was OP, but a few days have made me change my mind. When you get one that lands perfect though, it is extremely satisfying lol

I wasn’t actually suggesting that the thread be closed, I was sarcastically saying ‘/closethread’ in reference to how good his points were and encapsulated what I think. Proceed to discuss
