If you are good you use the crab toss skill to throw it at a chasing opponent, knocking them down. Then you steal it back and run away!

Dirtyrich is correct. All large scale battles benefit from formations or zergs. It’s the same reason wild game move in packs. WvW was never designed with a solo playstyle. ANET, if they could, should work on removing skill lag even further and possibly adding more objectives and more players to each map. Trying to eliminate people from grouping doesn’t make sense on any level. If that’s not your style of play, try one of the many custom arenas for deathmatches.

Yes, rangers are incredibly OP!

One time, I saw a ranger swoop through an entire zerg one shotting them. They then metered out unicorns of doom with their bow of justice to anyone trying to help their fallen allies. This ONE ranger took out, like, 3 million of my team mates. Pure, unadulterated destruction. No other class has ranged attacks, why do rangers? No other class can apply conditions, why can rangers?

I would have recorded it for proof, but it happened SO fast!

Then I learned to strafe; problem solved! :P

Your solution is to grief people?

Before I got crabtacular naturally, I asked people to work together for it. This one guy told me he was going to grief me for asking to be diplomatic. So I picked up the fishing pole and started leashing him first! Then he stole it from me and started leashing me! It was one of the most hilarious and fun times I had. By the end, we were great friends and we stayed together getting our achievements together.

It was officially one of my most memorable moments in gw2.

Crab Event Tips and Techniques

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Chopps.5047

Chopps.5047

A lot of people struggle with this game so I’ll share some of the things I did to consistently win 150 to 100 and get all the achievements. Once you start playing the right way, it’s actually a ton of fun.

0) Timing and position is everything; anticipate and don’t waste cooldowns

1) Do not chase your foe. You all run at the same speed. Cut them off or wait at the other side of the court. Search for environmental weapons (more on that in a second). Just don’t waste time endlessly chasing.

2) Hold down the run button longer to go farther. It is also an evade. You can run through rolling karka if you want.

3) Environmental weapons are OP; the fishing pole/conch to leash a person chasing the crab or leash the crab directly; stand back with egg when someone is about to pick up crab, drop egg on them, let them burn cooldowns, then go in for the steal. Plank has a leap and a whirl knockdown.

4) When you have the crab, immediately turn around and sprint to the opposite side of the court. When someone gets to you, throw the crab at them (knocking them down) then steal it right back.

5) To lead to conditions for “Crabtacular”, run the crab into a corner near the Charr Crab Master guy’s platform. This will bunch people up; it takes a little luck but you can do it.

I had a lot of fun playing this game. It’s a little frustrating at first if you don’t know what you’re doing but follow those simple tips and you will play like a beast. Have fun!

Future transfers (assuming they keep up with Anet patch notes and developer posts) will probably sit idle for a bit until they see what Anet has in store for the new ranking system.

From the early hints, I doubt the same 3 servers per tier will face off against each other for weeks / months on end which should bode well to keep the threads semi positive as it will diminish the long term bad blood that can reside amongst servers with the present glicko system.

Logic? In this thread? Your kind isn’t welcomed here. :p

Sorry to burst your bubble, but we’re already doing other dungeons. I run Arah with my guard all the time and have Dungeon Master. My warrior is specifically set up for CoF right now, but when I do run him elsewhere, I re-trait and have different gear.

Also, maybe you should look up some vids of DPSers in other dungeons. Almost every dungeon can be optimized in this fashion.

I was just joking! :p I am well aware of 46s lupicus kill shenanigans. As far as optimizing runs, as far as I know, no one has definatively proven what team composition is most efficient although it will likely involve a mesmer due to feedback. A guardiand and three warriors being paired is definately great though, no doubt. I suspect higher performance might be obtained by substituting one warrior for one of the underused professions in speed runs. Maybe we’ll see a true demonstration someday?

I don’t agree with your assessment, Shiren, but I appreciate hearing your opinion. One reason I say that is how hard your regen hits is a function of amount of healing power and traits as opposed to profession:

The Regeneration boon grants healing over time determined by the following formula:
5 + (1.5625 * Level) + (0.125 * Healing Power) per second
At level 80 this is:
130 + (0.125 * Healing Power) per second

Contrasted with the quote that seems to imply ele’s are innately giving more healing with their boons “Eles on the other hand may not provide as much defensive boons to a group as a guardian, but they do better healing for a group, provide fire fields and auras to boost the team with fury and swiftness, offer more condition clears; they also do considerably more damage than guardians do and a lot of it is cleave, pbaoe damage with a host of CC and mobility that the guardian doesn’t have.”

Well, lets compare ele healing / condition removal abilities.

HEALING SPRING (30 s CD)
Create a spring that heals you, your pet, and your allies. It also cures conditions on allies.
Healing: 4,920 (1.0)?
6 Regeneration: 3 s (2340 health)
Radius: 240
Duration: 15 s
Combo Field: Water

SPIRIT OF NATURE (240 s CD)
Summon a spirit that heals allies. Command the spirit to revive and cure conditions on nearby allies.
Duration: 60 s
Healing: 480

Healing Rain (Staff, 45 s CD + time stuck in other attunements)
Call down a healing rain on the target area, granting regeneration to allies and curing conditions once every three seconds.
4 Regeneration: 4 s (2080 health)
Duration: 6 s
Radius: 360
Combo Field: Water
Range: 1,200

Geyser (Staff, 20 s CD + time spent stuck in other attunements)
Create a geyser to heal nearby allies.
Healing: 808 (0.25)?
Duration: 2 s
Radius: 120
Combo Field: Water
Range: 1,200

Regarding condition removal, signet of renewal (60 s CD remove all conditions from pet’s nearby allies and send to pet) and the brown bear’s 24s CD Shake it off (cures 1 condition from all nearby allies) seems pretty good. Also you avoid mentioning pets besides raven, which is actually more of a 1v1 pet and likely is not the most bursty pet.

Again, I’m not that well versed with ele but these are the kinds of comparisons I like to see. So now, when you look at the actual abilities, ranger seems quite competitive in terms of healing / condition removal. So now if you spec the ranger into that role it opens up different weapon choices for the ele on your team.

Just my thoughts, you might disagree and that’s cool with me.

Ideally, you want to do this before you hit 80 because you scale up in WvW better when underleveled ven when wearing rares afaik. Someone who’s done the math, can you respond here? I can’t remember for sure.

I run something partly alike, but more polished.
If you lose 3 conditions every 10sec, don’t you think 65% condi reduction is waste?
I run with emapthic bond and can’t complain on it with 0% condi reduction.
Condi reduction is when your condi removal is pretty bad.

Another thing is that critical chance in comparsion to critical hit is way too low.
I’d change cavalier to knight trinkets right away.

@Chopps: Regeneration gives 130hp/sec with 0 healing power. 132.5/sec with 100 healing power. Idk where your math comes from. Therefore, Rejuvenation will give 660-700hp over 5sec (including Medic – the WvW healing buff).

@OP, I’d rework some thing. Mostly stats to critical damage. Eg. with helmet 1 critical damage = 16 STATS! While it’s only 5 in jewel, 7 in orbs.

Yeah, my bad, didn’t realize it was the regeneration boon as opposed to rejuvenation. ANET tooltips endlessly confuse me with ambiguous wording. Rejuvenation is both the name of the minor trait and a guardian heal. Still, the overal healing is really low. Compare 90 H/s over 5s to to 132.5 H/s over 5s; it seems low for what he’s doing.

Though, I’m surprised, based on your knowledge of the math, that you didn’t recognize my mistake. Surely it’s a common error when anet gives two support items identical names. Maybe you should study the math more? :p That way instead of being condescending, you can actually help teach and help us learn.

Sounds like you should roll an Ele.

However, I do agree that agility training is utter garbage and the pets should just move 30% faster as part of their mechanic.

It’s possible that it started like this but in testing anet felt it was OP. I mean, rangers had a slot skill—camoflauge—in beta but eventually that stealth on demand was nerfed to Hide in Plain Sight. It’s possible agility training had a similar history.

Maybe it works in a weird way? For example, right now, with my regen build, I could get empathic bond if agility training was free. It definately makes me make some hard decisions which is good, I think.

Consortium Whip

Chopps.5047

Hey folks,

Thanks for liking the whip I created (well, as much as a single designer creates anything that is). Currently the whip is not an item players can use. Thieves can steal a tentacle whip off of some creatures, but I don’t think it is something players can use.

I’ll try to keep in mind that there is interest in that weapon, and see if there’s not people I can talk to about adding more permanent solutions.

Hey, I don’t know if you did it but thanks for the whip in SAB. That was a cool gesture and—call me weird—but I loved the animation. I don’t know if you guys remember the whip animation in SAB but it was hysterical. To me, that indicated that you guys heard “we want whips!” and said “who cares about the animation? Let’s get them a whip” and that’s just plain cool. You guys rock.

Oh, and thanks for the apothecary back. Some people might not see the little things you guys do but I notice them. TY!

Just to add to that, right now, the biggest problem with spirits is people being afraid to test them, leading to you all missing out on four nice group buffs. I use them in dungeons except vs bosses with 30k+ aoe. The boon is almost always up. The CD for losing one isn’t terrible and the buff will stick for a decent duration even after spirit death. Is it a banner? No, in fact, it works differently. Could the spirit mechanic be more interesting? Maybe but right now frost/stone are better than most think in dungeons and storm spirit seems viable for when you just aren’t fast enough.

Try it before you slam it. Most rangers I know never try spirits because they’re afraid of looking like a noob. I had fun with storm spirit the other day in wvw but I didn’t have time to rigorously test. But it’s another aoe in zergs, I just wish the secondary was a static field.

With the amount of aoe cleave in tpvp your spirit won’t stay up for long.

Test it and come back. I bet it stays up longer than you think unless you trait spirits unbound (spirits too squishy for that grandmaster is my current thought for melee builds but one working build—ranged / LB? Gap closing with axe?—could change my opinion there.

Simply drop the spirit out of the way. If the want to go across the room to kill it and waste time, fine.

I’m not going anywhere. I couldn’t care less about the overall score because it’s out of my hands. I’m not in leadership. I just go out there and have fun. And I suggest you guys do the same. Last night, during the SF time slot, we helped our friends in JQ get to a 290 tick before I logged out for sleep. I have mained ranger since day -3. DAY -3! I loooooove being the underdog. Bring it on T1 or T2. I am ready to rumble. I’ll be here every night. That ranger that frost trapped your zerg? Yeah, that was me.

Durzlla does well with a condition (carrion) LB build using sun spirit. There’s sevral ways you can go.

Please don’t try to spread that again…

The initial thread detailing the performance (and by that I mean lack thereof) of that build was plenty long enough.

Longbow is for zerging. It’s such a poor choice for a dueling weapon given how well the shortbow fulfills that roll.

Spread what? Sebrent and others came in to correct some misconceptions I had about procing and durations and other things after which it degenerated. I’ve moved on and the fact remains that sun spirit is a great way to add condition damage to longbow. Regarding any hurt feelings—it was a long time ago and I just don’t care.

I play by experience and light—LIGHT—theorycrafting. I have full sets of berserker, carrion, rabid, apothecary, celestial, soldier’s, cleric’s, rampagers, and shamans and I’m working on knights. I have play-tested many builds and the longbow/sun spirit on really is good, just not my preferred style of play. Remember, OP wanted LB (I am partial to swords). If you haven’t tested it, I suggest doing so. I also use spirits in dungeons. Go ahead, call me a noob, but they work.
