I don’t always run berserker. Lord, you are digging a grave here. Just stop.
Pets suck, Durz, didn’t you know? It’s not like a bear can take two karka by itself…oh wait.
If you found that insulting….. lul
I was my most evil laugh, what’s the proper symbol, muahaha?
That was @rebound. By the way, I run rabid ranger on necro night. :P Although I would like to get my necro up to 80 before this new condition drops.
I found your posts much more insulting than Letoll’s, to be honest. And I aslo think his opinion is just as valid as yours.
Edit: Thanks for bringing that perspective, Jed.
Maybe you need a pet seeyamoth, rebound?
This game is all about position. The fact is, most people are scared to practice running spirits. They really aren’t that bad, thank you for inspiring me to use them more. Fyi, I’ve been using frost spirit in molten facility and arah with success. Just don’t use them during a big aoe boss fight and they do fine, untraited, so long as you place them well.
A good place for a spirit is out of LoS of enemy and, if possible, on elevated ground.
agreed, but all of which you said is undoable if you are mainly doing large group WvW… on the other hand they can be viable in instances with careful application as you have stated…
Yeah I hear that a lot and rarely test so I’ll try it tonight and get back to you.
Warrior regen without healing power is useless.
Your comment is useless.
What excactly does this change about the fact that Warrior banners are innately better (by factor 4-6) and even traited Spirits are worse (by factor 2-3).
I just thought pointing it out in the first place was sort of irrelevant. Few warriors run healing power, in my experience.
But you want to debate so let’s debate. You forgot to include banner of discipline CD because spirits are 100% uptime. The ball’s in your court.

Rangers needed buffs no doubt. Did the devs take it too far? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I’m encountering a buttload more rangers in pvp these days. That tells me that something is up. Must investigate more.
Ranger is in a good place. I have been playing since beta and it hasn’t changed deastically from December. The fact is it took this patch to change perceptions about the profession. If anything, the pets live a little longer in aoe but, yeah, it’s the flavor of the month. I think necros are the next OP profession but that’s just my personal opinion.
Listen to Zenith and Shiren. Actually, great advice all around. My question is: what utilities do you guys bring? I’m kind of liking muddy terrain.

I love playing ranger. There are many of us. I’m sorry you don’t like it. It sounds like you need a hug, in fact, my Lynx wants a hug. She said she’s hungry for treb and warriors…
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Only if my warrior could get the exact same short-bow rangers get. It would be the best ranger ever. No kitten pet. 135% bleed duration with food, traits, and runes.
Rox got a pet and she’s still stuck with warrior shortbow.
How is being smart about the chanter puzzle an exploit? The arm seals are a puzzle, not a DPS race.
Its not a puzzle.
The fact that once you fail 10 chanter spawns means its intended to be played with 10 chanters on both sides.
You can repeat any jumping puzzle.
You cannot repeat arm seals if ONE player fails.
Heaven forbid they add any mechanics that reward team coordination or punish poor coordination.
Comments like this make me wonder what players want from this game. They add interesting mechanics (cliffside) and then people complain its too hard for pugs. They have dodge checks (alpha) and people claim its too punishing for new players. They have dps checks (simin) and people complain that it alienates too many builds. I honestly don’t know what type of encounter would actually please people.
Right, it’s designed to actually take longer for teams that just blow everything up.
But Lupicus’s projectiles bounce, which is why they hit outside of circle. The circles of AoE are consistent throughout the game in that they show the landing point of the first projectile.
“Promotes profession skill abuse”
Surely you’re not saying that using weapon or slot skills with reflects, blocks, or invulnerability is exploiting?

Fun Fact: I had the same 5-Ranger-CoF idea, but i would do it a bit different.
5 rangers can easily stack 25 might and fury and have accces to 6-8 sec quickness. Therefore you should be able to kill slavedriver very fast with sword/warhorn.
Same goes for the endboss – he has a knockdown and a heavy burn, you have 20 sec stability and a heal that removes one condition every 3 seconds. No need to dodge = high dps.
In theory, 5 Ranges should be able to do this really fast.
I’ll try anything really. This is along the lines of what is possible that I’m thinking of. This idea will be one I will try out for some runs.
Last boss music MADE MY DAY!
lol It makes my day everytime I watch it! I pop on and just turn it to the 10:23 mark.
Are you planning to do path 2 and 3 with 5 rangers? These “defend the objective” events could be so funny – never-ending barrage, traps all over the place, 5 pets, maybe some other guys from consumables and runes for additional distraction… it sounds really good!
This would be insanely funny! For now, I’m going to focus on ideas for making a 5-ranger path 1 run as fast as the 4 war 1 mes runs. There are so many possibilities.
Sword/dagger + GS or sword/axe + GS melee ranger trains with points put to BM could easily finish the dungeon just as fast as those boring 4 Warrior 1 Mesmer teams. 4 Ranger 1 Mesmer teams, even. Ability to do about the same dps much safer, with access to unpatched “exploits” is just golden. More people should pick up on the idea.
I would like to use your weapon sets with Molch’s suggestions from above. This is a very good possible fast run for path 1.
An idea I was having from work last night was to run in with 5 jaguars stealthing just before reaching Slave Driver at the same time we all 5 have longbows, we stack 25 weakness, 5 barrages, then finish with 5 rapid fire + quickening zephr.. switching to melee and close in for the final blows. Of course, I’m sure the numbers will crush my thinking stage here and it won’t work so wonderfully as I imagine.
You will be faster with swords/warhorn timed for perma fury, berserker gear, with the following pets (sword gives pet 3 stack might on auto):
Ranger A) Reef drake confusion / lightening drake
Ranger
jag / stalker
Ranger C) jag / stalker
Ranger D) jag / stalker
Ranger E) Red moa / blue moa (vigorous training)
Be sure to blast heal with drakes in perma healing spring. Each ranger should be in melee. The moas burst heal skill is really nice but you have to be in melee range. Run signet of wild and BM for maximum pet longevity, as well as guard. Keep the pets up and healed and protected. Make use of sick em and QZ too. In fact, slot QZ for sure and make sure its traited. Frost spirit and stone spirit could be useful; try to include 30% crit. Dmg. from pets as well (skirmishing) particularly if you have cats.
If pure zerk gear isn’t cutting it, one ranger should try clerics.

I know skilled players who used to run basic looking armor and a simple PvE title as a bluff.
I don’t think Lore is an issue considering there’s Charr and Asura Rangers, and they have different sensibilities. Also just because it’s a rifle as far as skins and stats go doesn’t mean it needs to be as such for skills. Look at the difference with Engy rifles or pistols and even shields. Or the various harpoon guns.
I’d rather see a staff if any new weapon is introduced, but I don’t think rifles break anything the ranger has going for it. I feel as far as ranged weapons go, we’re covered with axe and bows.
I take crossbow back because a staff would be, probably, the next logical step for rangers. I’m thinking short range AoE? I really have no idea, haha.
The fact that you can’t see why its a problem that low lvl characters make dungeon runs difficult is the problem. Simply put, regardless of player skill level, a sub-80 character does not have the UTILITY SKILLS and TRAIT SKILLS/POINTS to contribute.
Sorry that you have dealt with some hostile folks, but some may find it frustrating that people can’t or refuse to grasp the simple concepts of the game mechanics I described in paragraph one.
Perhaps a better use of your time (instead of wasting other people’s time with fail runs or complaining about it on the forums) would be to level your character.
Another alternative would be to get 4 friends or guild mates who are level 80 to hold your hand through the dungeon.
I would be happy to assist you on this if you find 3 other level 80’s willing.
My man, back during the first week, dungeons had less WPs and mobs more HP. We were level 35 through 50 (masterwork/rare gears) and we managed to do AC. All it really takes is dodging. I dislike this opinion because leveling is faster via dungeons. I would let two or three level 35s, no doubt. If they are good with the profession you could probably do a full party of level 35s.
In fact, I challenge the community to get 5 level 35s in AC and demonstrate a speed run. Positive communication and teamwork coupled with well timed dodges is a recipe for success.
Canines for cc; don’t use them in dungeons. I would choose one hound and one drake in wvw. :p
Some day I will take a picture with cuddlestrike. And it will be ultra cute.
Think we shot her one day with simultaneous ballista bolts.
It was adorable..
Were we supposed to line up for photo op? Had no idea.
Actually feels slightly bad now
Noooo. Cuddlestrike, my love asura. Why….WHYYYYYYY???? You rotten wolves. Tempest Wolves. Strikeforce would never do such a thing. :p
;)
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Red moa for some long duration fury, blue moa for protection, and brown bear condi removal is nice too.
Some day I will take a picture with cuddlestrike. And it will be ultra cute.
Hell no, really don’t care if you’re an apprentice toymaker tbh.
Combat healer, thank you very much. And Volunteer.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Do you guys think lore would allow this? Why shoot a gun when a ranger is just as deadly with a quiet arrow to the neck? Rangers seem in tune with nature whereas a gun is loud and disruptive. I’d rather see a crossbow, to be honest. It will be interesting to see where ANET and the community wants to go with new weapons down the road.

Greetings from BG BL; score update
Best thing on LB is hunter’s shot and point blank shot and then rapid fire. You know, lots of rangers QQ about pets not landing hits maybe you should run longbow for hunter’s shot (pet swiftness) and the knockback? Maybe it needs sone tweaks but a lot of strong players use it and we just got a huge patch. And guardian sceptor is designed to be the slowest yet highest dps ranged attack in the game except guardians never used it due to how it was too slow. That being said, I would like to see work done on the longbow #1 yet I feel ANET can only reasonably do so much.
Grats, my man. Enjoy it!
Wow, I’ve wanted to optimize a pet only cof run as well as a fastest time rangers only cof for a long, long time. PM if you’d like to try recreating this. It looked like you fellas had fun. Rock on!
Don’t think they need to worry about someone collecting all the legendaries for a long long time.
A strong pve / pvp player in my guild only needs bolt. She’s one of the best rangers I know and has a ridiculous efficiency. She does NOT mess around and also knows how to play the TP like a beast.
It’s part of the culture to not show bones or skeletons, hence the look.
-goes back to eating popcorn-
Yay! There is plenty to go around. Refill anyone?
It’s not just CC; don’t forget AoE vigor because that’s a great contribution. More vigor means more dodging and, because evasion is the primary source of invulnerability for each profession, it could mean the difference between winning and wiping.
Just took SoR’s fully upgraded Bay in JQBL… This is what happens when you attack us
We would never attack our beloved ladyfriends!
Must’ve been some mistake in our diabolical plan..Thought BG was blue didn’t ya? Just kidding xD
Im still abit confused till now. Just logged in since SEA time today… them colours
This guy kept trying to run through green doors at reset saying “I can’t go through the door I’m reporting a bug” and it might have been the funniest thing to happen all night. Whoever that was, thanks for the laugh. <3 JQ
Hey I remember you from your time in SoR :p
I did the same once, running into different coloured portal. Probably even worse for JQ since theyve been green for so long
How ya been? I still have lots of friends on SoR and I do miss wvw with GSCH. It’s always good competition in t1. Let’s run some molten facility sometime.
Your arguments are based on numbers and theory that bear no relation to the reality of gameplay. You claim to play a staff ele, and want to nerf your own class? Seems a little suspect to me if I’m honest.
I play all classes, Ele is my main. Currently in WvW there are some grave imbalances in certain professions and spec’s. It’s not class wide, it’s just specific builds that reap so much more than other builds. Which is why both Warriors and Guardians will see select builds toned down even as others are improved.
Staff Ele’s are in an interesting spot. I feel extremely effective in WvW, but not specifically overpowered. But it’s close honestly. The amount of AOE CC and AOE damage that Ele is capable of far exceeds any other profession at range. If they make some small down tweaks to Staff ele In that area I would not be surprised or upset. People are worried about small scale staff Ele, but that’s really not the purpose of that weapon for us at all. If anything Ele needs buffed it’s Scepter and a few select mainhand dagger skills. Well, and conjured weapons + a couple utility skills of course.
I don’t see water fields as a nerf to my own class but rather a nerf to something that affects my own class. Reality is it would be a bigger indirect nerf to the heavies that are currently dominating the WvW game. I don’t want heavies nerfed into oblivion, but currently myriad factors combine to make them not have any good and realistic counters. With high toughness, high vitality, plentiful CC, and massive amounts of condition removal it’s difficult to really deal with them in a group setting when backed up by water fields.
Since the result achieved is from many different angles, so to does the balancing of it need to come from many angles so no single aspect is destroyed by the nerf hammer. Hammer/horn shout builds will be nerfed no doubt. Hopefully only in WvW where they are the issue. Runes of the Soldier will likely get some sort of short Cooldown.
Honestly though, ultimately after those types of changes take place Staff Ele will still be in exactly the same place of usefulness. Water Fields would still be loved and used, I would still have all the CC and AOE I do now. But maybe some other spec’s could be used for some of the other parts of the group instead of the current status quo.
No. You are not indirectly nerfing my ranger you selfish gamer. Get a team and use combo fields.
They are against farming…
They are also pro you buying gems with real $$$…
Its a marriage made in heaven…
they limit the amount of gems you can buy directly from them in a month. You’re not supposed to convert gems to gold really.
Yes, and they are nerfing and removing every way possible in game to earn gold and how are we, and especially the casual gamers going to get by? Because I know that I’m not going to use my hard earned money that I work my kitten off for in real life to buy gems just to turn it in for a little bit of gold. And I did like this game, in the beginning, and only reason I’m still here is it’s all there is that’s out that is good to play atm, something better comes out and I’m a ghost here.
Dungeon armor only takes time…
Thief with shortbow + s/d + venom aura + signet of malice can be REALLY good for zerging and in smaller groups. I run a tanky s/d sometimes with signet of malice and you can just tear up the guts of an opposing zerg.
Hammer warriors are also great for zerging, with plenty of blast finishers to give area retaliation/cleanse/might, stuns/disruptions and for great justice, shake it off, banners, increasing toughness to nearby members and etc. Few good hammer warriors can really decimate an opposing zerg.
You need a team around you to set up your blasts, warrior.
Yes, I don’t like doing guild missions, the treks are stupid and the bounties are fun the first time, after that it is just more pve repetitive nonsense. So I’ve stopped doing them.
So is support buying them with badges. But it will never happen. I mean, just look how long it’s taking to add ascended gear to WvW vendors.
I know, it’s almost as if add ascended gear to wvw isn’t their only priority.
Took you 3.5 months to get the best skins in the game? Most other MMOS would have taken that time to get a full set of gear alone…
Just imagine trying to get a full set of legendary armour. Now that would be interesting to see.
I’m sure someone will figure out a way to do it in 2 weeks lest it be time gated by the almighty zomorros.
The economy in this game is just awful, rare items are ridiculously overpriced, and gold is too scarce for people to afford much without farming. Add to this that ANet seem to nerf farming spots pretty frequently and it’s just a chore.
I understand that easier gold = even higher prices, hence why the economy as a whole is screwed, I mean compare it to WoW, where yes, lots of stuff is overpriced, but the average player can more readily afford most stuff, and make gold at a good pace.
WoW players pay a fee, for a similar monthly expenditure on gems, you too can have “WoW swag access”.
I love large scale combat, makes me feel like I’m in a movie due to the epic scale. I just wish latency wasn’t an issue. For small scale I roam BG or SoR BL and/or play spvp. PvP in this game rocks.
Xsorsus, why did you toy with that Mesmer, you dog? Embarrassed him, GG

Same as all dungeons i use Devourers and Jellyfish everything else dies too fast in dungeons to be viable..
Devourers are stronger than Spiders and do as much damage..
Three tailed devourer: stand behind it attacking ranged while it absorbs incoming projectiles, got to love that meatshield.
“Guard” stealthed my wolf on enemy BLJP rock as invader followed, wolf knock down into [Terrifying Howl] to fear him off the edge, allowing me easy access to the upper half of the key.
I just think OP dislikes rangers and ele’s.
Anyone got the score? I’m guessing based on last week’s performance, BG is running up the score again.
Anyone know the score?
