Jon P, you are hilarious! Rock on, my man. Good luck at work and stuff, I wish you and your team the best. Please, tell Colin I’ve been rolling around with my “Seeyamoth”!
To be honesnt, obscure one, I have never fought a solid ranger in wvw and I play T1 every day
Transfer to Tier 1, become good. Got it.
Point taken!
To be honesnt, obscure one, I have never fought a solid ranger in wvw and I play T1 every day so the fact that you beat them all the time really doesn’t mean a lot. I beat SoR and BG rangers every single day. I honestly have not come across one that put up any kind of challenge. Not that you guys aren’t out there, just that, well, you are few and far between. And I think that’s because many players insist on unning glass cannon builds that blow up in the slightest breeze.
Anyways, 15,000 views! Holy molten alliance batman!
Skippin requires communication in a game with no built in VOIP. I’ve been in groups with a theif where we skipped, decided to run another path, theif had to leave, but the players still thought we could skip like we did before. Usually you can do “ok” but this team wasn’t up for the challenge. But it was impossible to convince them that “look, we aren’t configured for this because we die every time”. Being able to skip skippable mobs generally requires practice and communication, two things many PUGs struggle with.
So for me, the problem isn’t skipping per se, rather, it’s a lack of communication when doing content intended for good team work and communication.
In general, I believe most world bosses simply needs to hit significantly harder. Golem MkII is a good example. If his smash attacks were a bit more unpredictable (capable of hitting all over the platform), and hit way harder (15-20k per smash on light armor) and his electricity hit for like 2-3k each tick, he would be a lot more intense and fun. As it is, there is simply no threat coming from many of the bosses. Shadow Behemoth suffers from the same problem. His aoe attacks are very weak, and barely do any damage.
Problem is that this punish the newbies in white and blue that show up at the starter zone events.
Well…it is a dragon after all. A DRAGON.
Really? Because I hate leveling alts because my ranger so strongly outperforms them everywhere in PvE. I easily one shot low level foes where my guardian would be working for days for a kill or my necro would really take forever. It’s such a huge difference, in my opinion.
Thanks DB for the warm welcome to the server. This past week has been alot of fun. Im really looking forward for friday when DB takes a step up to face the T2 competition.
A lot of fun for who? Definitely not for Yaks Bend or Maguuma… Rawnoodles stated that he hopes [RE] can earn their respect, I hope you do in your respect in DB but you certainly do not deserve respect from Maguuma or Yaks Bend. You definitely have brought a few fun fights to tier 3 this week, but that does not make up for the fact that your decision to transfer has completely ruined an already unbalanced matchup. For weeks now YB and Mag have lost purely because of lack of coverage. Our only fun time to play was during NA, and now it’s kitten miserable thanks to the bandwagon NA guilds moving to DB. I’m glad DB moves up to tier 2 next week, and all the best. But bandwagoning isn’t respectable and ruins the wvw experience for those on the opposing servers.
Reply to this post however you want, I’m just a frustrated WvW player having a miserable WvW experience these last few weeks due to unbalanced matchups. And thanks to bandwagon guilds my experience has become even more pathetic. I’m not gonna transfer to have a better experience, but I’m not gonna applaud you for your ‘bravery’ to join an already winning server.
I understand a server needs to become bandwagon material in order to reach tier 1… except for JQ who have been there from the start so they earn their position there. Hope tier 2 brings you more competition and fun that you are seeking, but don’t gloat in your ‘fun’ experience in tier 3 at the expense of a miserable experience for others due to your transfer. In the end every player and guild can choose which server they would like to play on, but “hoping to earn the respect” is a pathetic plea… and simply… you don’t kitten deserve it.
All is fair in love and war.
Might I suggest instantly downing everyone when a dragon lands unless a dodge roll is executing? I want to see punishing mechanics!
Yakity yak: don’t talk smack.
Ranger regeneration ability is OP
I don’t agree with that statement because all the enemy has to do is burn down my cat and I can no longer do damage. Use the necro to corrupt my regen. Oh ya! No one plays this way!
Short on time, although sadly I feel (with good reason) the pet is more of a detriment to the class than a benefit. This is especially true in WvW where the pet often miss’s especially moving targets, is easily kited and killed and will actually help some class’s kill you. Like the thief using it for a guaranteed cloak and dagger.
This is intended, for the most part. Can a warrior without run speed to damage to a running target? They’ll probably struggle like the pet. Rangers have a lot of access to cripples and chills—even muddy terrain and stuns. Use them to get in pet hits and apply conditions until they drop. I mean, I play wvw all the time and, yeah, in a way it’s an issue with the profession, but in another way it’s your fault. For example, if you’re going to slot signet of the wild, lightening reflexes, and signet of renewal, then run bows and some kind of power/precision build, you’re not going to be able to expect your pet to catch targets unless you trait agility training and even then it will have a hard time against a good player, at least if it’s a melee pet like a cat. In that case, you need to use ranged pets or leaping pets like dogs for knockdowns. With this build, you do the killing and your pet is there for utility. See how that works? There’s a relationship between what armor you choose, what weapons you choose, and what pets you choose. If you go glass and run cats, you’re going to have a bad time in pvp.
If you want to kill people with cats you got to run catmaster or regen or trap. Fortifying bond and regen boon along with healing power builds, natural healing, and signet of the wild, can give some insanely sick survivability to cats, even in aoe.
Let’s try this and come back and see if we still struggle.
Here we go! Let the drinking commence! I recommend that anyone that starts whining, everyone should troll them with a picture of a box of kleenex!
Has anyone hit Bingo yet?
I love how the free space is “you suck”. That’s actually pretty funny.
A regen ranger does pretty well in a zerg situation as the constant regen boon with fortifying bond will result in a surprisingly tanky pet. In fact, regen/healing is also a great way to support the zerg. Ranger may not be “the best” by your standardsbut they’re really not so bad. Crowd control / healing spring / signet of renewal really aren’t so bad. I don’t know if it’s best or optimal in terms of zerging — hey maybe we should all just play guardian (facepalm) — but, yeah, I don’t know if I agree with your assessment,
jack.

My guild mate correctly predicted a drop in ecto prices post world boss chest daily implementation. I will now listen closer to his market advice.
How about GS#5 SB#4 AXE#3 etc, these weapon skills that grant buff to pet’s next attack?(They grant buff no matter they miss or not)
And is it allow to keep swap weapon with boundaries(elixir of hero),to grant pet infinite fury and swiftness by skirmish traits?
I’d say that’s fine so long as you don’t target anything while using those skills.
I think we want to use a devourer or drake to pull aggro due to the toughness but we need a few cats in there right? Stalker gives might and jaguar is actually pretty evasive due to the stealth.
My thoughts on the weapons for the ranger is:
Long Bow for Ranged AOE – add more options for AOE damage
Rifle for Ranged Single Target
Short Bow for Ranged Condition – leave as is for now.
You must want more bags in dubs. :p
Ah, fair enough. Rock on!
Hey, I have a Sebrent question: does weapon sigil affect pet in any way? If so, which ones and how?
Your best utilities for doing this would likely be Guard (protection for pet), Sick’Em (pet damage), Signet of the Wild (pet regen), and Signet of Stone (pet toughness). 3 of those 4 and the right traits will make your pet beastly.
For weapons, Warhorn is a “duh”. I think Greatsword as well since it’s #5 will give your pet a damage bonus for its next hit even if you just use #5 without hitting anything.
If you have 15 points in Nature Magic, Healing Spring would probably be your best bet in order to put regen on your pet… though if Rangers in the group have Runes of Dwayna and you have 15 in Nature Magic, I’d go back to Troll Unguent.
Haha, yeah, just keep hilt bashing the air. Hey, what pets do you all think we should bring? If there was no ranger help AT ALL (we should try that too) then I think a red moa is essential for heals and buffs. Maybe a blue moa for protection and a hound for regen.
Good question, sisixuan. The pets will do all the damage. Rangers are allowed to use utilities, heals, and any other skill that does not do direct damage (rampage as one counts but entangle does not). Warhorn might/fury is allowed but warhorn birds attack is disallowed. Does that sound reasonable? Any objections? I guess the most hardcore thing would be no ranger help at all besides calling targets and swapping.

I think if you bought something from the gem shop, then you’d have a case. Since these kinds of mistakes happen a lot due to players being in a rush or just not paying attention, I doubt ANET has the manpower to fix everyone’s goof ups, you know? You made a mistake. It sucks. Now you can give up or you can farm bauble bubbles for the greatsword; you can continue running dungeons for armor…or you can make forum posts. The choice is yours.
Not the OP, but speaking for myself.
It’s not that I don’t like strangers, it’s just that i don’t like doing instanced content with strangers, or people in general for that matter. It’s too bad that i don’t have any rl friends/relatives that play this game, but I have seen all the drama/issues that go in on dungeons through guild chat, and reading these forums, and I don’t want any part in it.
it’s not like MMO’s are all about instances, I group with people, just not in dungeons. :p
There is far more drama in guild chat and in these forums than there is in the game. Practice, read a guide, watch a video, and join some strangers in a dungeon. You might like it. For me, it gives a chance to practice working in a team with people I don’t know…I actually consider this a valuable life skill because it relates to how I have to interact with people at work.
I’m looking for 4 interested rangers (NA) to schedule a time to run CoF path 1 using ONLY pets (that’s the challenge). I will record this on fraps and post the video for laughs. Let me know if any of you guys are willing to try this! Why do it? Because we can!
I would say FOTM 1. It is actually easier (and more well design) than the other dungeons. If you go there at low level, your get scaled to level 80 and the scaling favors scaling up.
CoF path 1 is easy for a decent dps group but when fights get drag out, things can turn ugly quickly.
CM is actually not easy for an unprepared group. Going in there without Reflection skills can be hazardous to your health.
TA is not easy as well. Many will fall to the poisonous blossom if unprepared.
Yeah, you’re totally right. Just to add to this, note that if you get cof parties through gw2lfg.com, you will be able to get carried because most players could easily 4 man cof path 1. So watch a video on it, learn how to stay alive during acolytes and totem parts and you will be fine. If your first run goes bad and some kid chews you out, forget him. Good luck!
@Azure: I would be fine with the auto-attack on axe doing more damage. Honestly, though, I’d prefer it did some sort of condition damage (but that’s what fire combo fields are for, I guess).
The reason the direct damage on it doesn’t bother me is because of the reason I stated before: I only use my axe in condition builds.
I’m not sure how you used it in a condition build, but I’ve seen many people here on the boards not knowing how to properly “shotgun” someone with the Axe’s #2 skill. That is pivotal to using the Axe as a condition weapon. If you can’t do that, you aren’t going to do much damage to anyone.
Yeah, splitblade is on a short CD so it’s pretty easy to get 10 bleeds on a target with it.
There is a patch coming on April 30 with speculated (little confirmed) fixes for ranger. Ranger doesn’t need whole new trait lines or a permanent stowed/unstowed key. What it needs are bug fixes for pets, tooltip corrections, a re-ordering of major/minor/grandmaster traits as well as combining a few and giving a few new ones to replace the combined traits, and maybe a little work on weapon balance. Ranger needs adjustments to group support (spirits) and maybe a new slot skill and/or adjusted slot skills. They said they’re splitting pve, wvw, and spvp even more so I’m sure that will impact rangers in some way (quickness will come back in PvE, you watch).
You know, it’s not that your ideas are bad. It’s that it would take ranger in a completely different direction that would require almost starting over from scratch. If you were a programmer working for ANET, would you want to start completely over? You’re not just balancing current content, you have a full plate of work: new race balance (Tengu), new weapons, in addition to all the current balancing goals and objectives, which isn’t just ranger: other professions have bugs and problems too. It seems like they have a solid foundation already with ranger so the most effective choice is to build off that foundation.
To be completely honest, warriors are in much worse shape. No one wants them in pvp.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Ranger is my favorite profession.
Hey bas I know I said I’d be at work but I mixed up the days. If it’s today, I suppose I can make it.
The solution to the down state is to roll a ranger.
So, people who were unable to attend get screwed?
I REALLY wanted to try out the SAB and get some of the skins but I’m stuck on a PC incapable of running GW2 since just before April, and my new PC got delayed so it taken a few weeks to arrive after ordering; it’ll arrive (ironiclly) on the 30th.
It’s frustrating to have to miss out awesome looking content due to arbitrary time limits just because someone will get upset if they have to share their weapon skin with more than 3 other people on the planet. GW2 needs to feel like it’s growing and that means adding new content that is here to stay
It’s not like you need remove the content to keep the rewards unique. Star Trek Online does a similar thing, and when the “event” phase is over, the content stays in, but the unique rewards are replaced with generic rewards
To be honest, the skins are kind of ugly if it weren’t for the obnoxious particle effects, no one would want them. The way I look at it, so long as I’m not missing a chance at rolling a precursor (ie, ancient karka), then if I miss it, so be it. I doubt I’ll be able to make every event and get every single item. This is the company that brought Mad King Clock Tower, Wintersday, and now Super Adventure Box. There will be more shinies, my man.
If you don’t want a pet…dare I say play warrior?
On another note, the thought that it’s easier to “give ranger a passive buff when pet is stowed” is an interesting notion. I don’t buy it. Now they have to balance ranger for both when pet is stowed and active. That sounds like twice as much work to me, as an engineer.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
I’m pretty sure there’s software you can use so script kiddies can hack but they’re dumb because they’re going to get a nice, fresh banhammer.
I saw a SoR player literally fly into a tower and then jump put and run away last week. It happened so fast I never reported it. JQ had the tower in question, so, yeah, I guess if you’re going to cheat and can’t clip, the only other option is to fly in.
Can’t we all just get along?
No, you’re a ranger. New video uploading.
I am not just a ranger. I have pink hair. That’s got to count for something.
Can’t we all just get along?
Another example is the word “nearby” or “up to”. Signet of renewal: remove all conditions from all allies nearby the pet. Ok…what range is nearby? Spotter: increase nearby (?) allies precision up to (?) 70 points, if I recall right. This information isn’t on the wiki and, to be honest, it shouldn’t have to be. So we’re supposed to let the community figure out anet’s tooltips and then post the information onto the wiki? There is zero incentive to do that except for the very, very few that gain satisfaction ot of documenting companies games for them.
14,000 views on a topic about 8 days old. Incredible. You guys rock.
I think one thing people are saying is “bring every weapon to battle” and I totally agree with that. You should have two axes, a sword, a greatsword, a dagger, a torch, a shortbow, and a longbow on you at all times. I carry a few versions of each for different stats, as well as a couple armor sets (offensive and defensive).
@jawz : yep, rock on dude
There was a thread about getting to use whips as weapons. It might make the right offhand to compliment this idea.
It’s interesting to me that everyone says “farm cof and gold, not materials” because in a player driven economy, if, in the extreme, everyone were to farm cof, then you would see massive inflation as no new t6 mats entered the market.
Haha yeah Ryu I know. Lot’s of ranger tooltips are like "your pet’s next attack does more damage". Okay....thank you tooltip. "Chance to apply bleed on hit" except the bleed is 1 second so only ticks once--but they don’t tell you that. Who wants one or two extra bleed ticks anyways? Sigh
The issue is that one cannot cast during many pets abilities due to them being channeled. There’s no way to cancel the pet animation. So we’re stuck with this, for now. In fact, part of this is intentional. They want to give the other team a chance to interrupt your pet’s attacks, basically. But not being able to cancel like you normally can migh be the deeper part of the problem. I know this has been discussed before but I’d like to hear some thoughts from newer players.
They built the wiki into the game to work as the “detailed” option you speak of. Just type /wiki <search term> and it will automatically minimize the game and bring up the wiki for you with the more detailed info you seek. That way everyone wins and they don’t have to code a bunch of extra info into the game.
EDIT: That’s not to say that I wouldn’t like to see more detailed tooltips. That’s just to say why they don’t feel they need to spend resources on such things.
The problem with the wiki is that it isn’t necessarily up to date and in general just isn’t reliable. If you look at combo fields, for example, half of the ranger combo fields aren’t even in the table. The wiki also doea nothing to explain some of the more tricky ranger tooltips. And other tooltips are just outright confusing. The tooltips are in really, really bad shape and the wiki isn’t reliable so what we’ve been doing on the ranger forum is testing ourselves in the mists. There’s a long thread pointing out issues with tooltips on the ranger forum now and it’s a HUGE problem for us. We shouldn’t have to go to mists to make sure a tooltip’s description is accurate. I feel like an unpaid beta tester. If the tooltip says one thing, then darn it, that one thing should be what it does. I love anet as much as the next guy but for the love of tooltips, fix them!
Don’t remove frogger…make it longer so mesmers actually have to run. Or, just to make players actually use some kind of skill, disallow mesmers from laying a portal. The “slow down” objective is an integral part of many of these dungeons and I’d like to see it be a bit more challenging.
If you want to destroy blobs:
- Remove teleports on WvW Maps.
- Death => 20sec timer => spawn at basecamp
- 1 min delay between 2 WvW maps (= on EB, if you want to go on your home map, there is a one minute timer)
The logical response to this brilliant suggestion is to group up as many people as possible in one place to avoid death.
Yes, in fact, these rules would only make a garrison easier to take, in my estimation. I wonder if that’s what OP really wants?
Not even close. There is no reason to wear anything OTHER than Berserker or equivalent condition sets. Almost all survival in high-end content comes from dodging, blinds, projectile absorption/reflection, blocks and other methods not related in any way to your natural defences. There is not enough risk to warrant giving yourself a pointless safety net.
You just explained the reason not to wear berserker in dungeons. Some people are not skilled enough and they waste endurance and/or don’t understand how to time weappn evades or why they might need aegis. I’d say if you’re a solid, experienced player, you can deal with less defense and actually become more efficient. If you’re not, then for the sake of the party and time, please bring a little defense, whether it be a slot skill or a full set of knight’s gear, depending on that sliding scale of skill.
Not everyone plays this game like us (thousands of ours) so you have to consider that maybe they’ll just die a lot and get frustrated in pure glass. Then isn’t it better for that player to bring defense until he or she improves?
I generally agree, Xsorsus. I mean, I mainly use it in dungeons because blocks and reflects are so incredibly useful there. They’re quite essential in some encounters. Some people have said they want a reflect/block nerf but I’d really hate to see damage negation go away. It’s a twichty thing that sort of goes back to games like street fighter where parries made the game insanely exciting.
“The Ranger excels"……. I stopped reading right there……………
The guy was quoting something from Aion; relax.
