+1, you did well, son.
Famous? None of the names being posted mean a thing to me. Never heard of any of them and no reason they would be “famous” .
I did see Gaile Gray. As far as I am concerned, Gail and the frog are the 2 most famous GW players (just Gail now in GW2), the rest are just names that show up on screen. And I’ve never heard of Gaile Gray, or a frog. Also, I take it that you’ve never heard or used the dulfy-website and also you don’t read the class-subforums for Ele, Necro or Mesmer.
I rarely use external websites, so no, I have never used that “dulfy” site, never heard of it, no idea what it is and not really interested. Besides, there have been MANY other websites for games, you don’t call someone who runs a website famous, LOL!
Sub forums are just other players posting, why would anyone there be famous? The concept of a famous player in an MMO is pretty ludicrous and REALLY stretching it.
If you don’t know who Gaile Gray and the frog are, then your not a true Guild Wars player and you obviously don’t read these forums very well yourself. (Hint) 2 of the most visible Anet employees in the original game, still around right here in this very forum posting and “helping” players almost every day.
They mean “famous” in terms of renown in the community. Every MMO is filled with renowned players. Also, Dulfy had enough renown for ANET to give her an NPC in the Ascalonian fractal, a boss called Seigemaster Dulfy made in her image. So, yeah, I see what you mean but you’re misinterpretting OP. Finally, whether you personally have heard of someone has little bearing on overall renown. At the end of the day, in terms of fame, indeed you can get notoriety running a website. Would you consider Mark Zuckerberg famous? You sound bitter, dude.
I use SotW to burst down a target with my cat. It works great.
I use it in dungeons with nature magic and spirits. This is the new ranger dungeon meta.
rangers is your problem.
No love for blast finished heals or CC?
The easiest way I find is to not get the boss out of the bubble right away. Instead, chill him with frozen ground or entangle him, then ball up while hiding behind wall of reflection, sanctuary, and shield of the avenger.
In the meantime, all the elementals will ball up so you can AoE them easily. The reason for this is that the boss won’t attack you but just veeeeeeeeery slowly goes towards a target, which provides you with plenty of time to kill the elementals.
At 70+ the elementals hit for 3-4k each, so you really have to there.
Here’s an example of lvl 71, albeit not that great a run, it starts at 1h37m: http://www.twitch.tv/awsmcelly/b/395197640
Some general tips:
- If there are no elementals up and the shaman uses his AoE, don’t dodge but WALK out of it: save your dodges for his bow attack.
- Use a potion of elemental slaying
- Keep the shaman in the middle
- Don’t EVER stand in the lava pits, even when they’re not active
This is great advice. Thank you!
Thanks for having me, folks. You have a fine show and I wish you the best.
Yeah… guy asks for LB build and you tell him to use melee weapon. Not to mention zerker gear in zerg fights lol.
LB in WvW: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/My-ranger-movie/first#post2012815
If you’ll read what I said, I was advising him not to use it unless in a zerg. Longbow is no good 1v1 unless you’re a really capable player.
Well, yes and no. I mean, yeah, LB has a clunky “feel” right now but it’s a good weapon. Just hunter’s shot, barrage, and point blank shot are reason enough to select it. Durzlla does well with a condition (carrion) LB build using sun spirit. There’s sevral ways you can go.
Axe off hand needs something. Even full zerker the auto attack does more damage than the axe 5.
I’ve done over 50k with axe 5. Lupicus, traited signet of stone, reflected AoE. Also, the act of reflecting tends to pull aggro so you can use it to pull enemies off someone trying to heal.
You know, I might actually try the axe with my zerker build and see how well it combines with quickness…
You played berserker without axe/axe? You are missing out, dude! Dual axes FTW. Path of scars is actually really strong if you can line it up. And whirling defense is so good. A lot of people complain about being stuck but I only use it long enough to reflect the projectile, which might only be a half second. Or else I use it offensively, hit my invuln (traited sig. Of stone), and stack on the dungeon boss. The vulnerability is applied before the hit too. Finally, winter’s bite is so good in so many situations: vs grub in arah, vs vigor professions in spvp or wvw, vs a dungeon boss to just slow them down and produce weakness and some glancing blows. And the ricochet is fantasic to get bags in Orr or WvW or to just flat out pwn a mob.
And now people won’t be able to outrun that winter’s bite. :p
It’s a little pricey, but if it was too easy you’d screw over the stealth mechanic too much. This is not for dueling a thief, it’s mainly for a stealthed enemy hiding in a keep you just flipped.
I’m glad you pointed that out, thanks. I feel a little better now.
Yeah I won’t waste badges on them, to be honest, rangers should be able to trait to track stealth. Call me crazy here but I doubt a theif could hide from a ranger, lore wise. It doesn’t make sense. Rangers can hunt and track with extrordinary skill. 15 badges…wow! It seems badges and siege will become more valuable: seige despawning, ascended gear purchased with badges being rumored, etc. But to spend 15 badges on a trap, I don’t know, I’ll stick to my ranger traps.
Overall I dislike the idea because, like, rangers are the primary trappers. So you decide to counter one mechanic using another profession’s mechanic? Why don’t we just give everyone purchasable warrior banners? Heck, 100 badges, and your ranger can carrry a hammer and CC too! You get a mechanic! You get a mechanic! You get a mechanic!
Nevertheless, it isn’t the end of the world and might actually turn out tk be tons of fun. But I’m skeptical, to say the least.
This works out to a 34% projectile speed buff, for anyone who’s counting. I love these axe buffs. TY ANET!
I believe the opening quote goes to IRON. Well done, friends, we wish you the best and as always: rock on!

What else can you say about me? Your bizarre obsession with my posts and SF is starting to give me the creeps. Eww
And as fast as they zone in, SF zones out.
JQ has a bad habit of just abandoning the BL after a few wipes.
chopps will spin it as a major victory. I like his style nods.
Bless your heart, if you knew me you’d know I do nothing of the like.

It’s getting a bit salty in here.

Looking for any BG/JQ guilds to join us in SoR BL, SF/KnT/AoS/GoF/Rise/HzH/Icoa!?!?!
Oh well I tried. We just looked too. Did you find us?
All we found was SF hiding behind siege.
I’ve never seen a guild build so much siege to try and fight open field when they clearly outnumber their enemy.
You guys are champs at power rezzing your dead though, I’ll give you that. Gold medal.
15?
You, sir, have earned a curiosity cookie.
I found a lot of SF, they keep running from hills to bay to garrison. They cant figure out how to get in so they keep knocking on random doors. stranger danger.
Is that what you think? Bless your heart.
Hah, it’s not fun until I get a picture with cuddles. :P

@roadkill
Haha, yeah, I don’t know. This isn’t really a serious suggestion, just for fun. But, if you want to get really hilarious, it would be more like:
2.5 s cast, 3s animation total (clearly sarcasm)
Steal first boon or destroy one boon at random (that second one sounds nice…)
30 s cooldown (realistic)
Now here’s the kicker: Stolen boons have a 1 s fixed duration. (wat)
Edit: The name of the skill would be Felonious Talon and it would be an activated ability of a new bird type. Of course, it’s probably a wacky suggestion and anet surely has plans of their own. Anyways, thanks for the laugh.
(edited by Chopps.5047)
It’s one of my favorite weapons right now.
Should ranger have the ability to strip boons with a pet? Why or why not? How would this mechanic function?
Edit: this is just a theorycrafting exercise for fun for people who like that sort of thing. Someone asked me this same question yesterday so I figured I’d put it up here for you guys to talk about since I didn’t really have any thoughts on the matter.
Have you tried clerics with berserker trinkets? What about mainhand sword?
(edited by Chopps.5047)
Signet of beastmaster + signet of stone + signet of renewal / frost trap / search and rescue / dodge roll shaman ranged attack / brown bear / entangle lava elementals while you burst down shield
Focus fire on shield! Attack the ele’s after the regen shield goes down. Maybe the paw be with you.
I always thought guilds could play when they want. I never knew there was some unwritten honor code about when a guild does or does not log. All is fair in love and war.
Wow! This is what we end up talking about now? The downded state? This is in what rangers excel in this game? That says a lot about this class. Anet you are failing us hard. GW1 was so much better.
Nah, it fits. Rangers are survivalists. Even when downed, when fighting as ranger, the fight isn’t over. I’ve been playing ranger hardcore since BWE and some of my most memorable moments are beating opponents from the downed state.
<3 Rangers; survivalists — self sufficiency, excellence in battle
Here’s what I do:
Healing / Support build for groups with many DPS players that may down due to beig glass cannon:
Clerics armor with rune of mercy; berserker trinkets for high dps, magi for more healing power
30 (signet of beastmaster / signe mastery / 10% dmg trait)
10 (30% crit dmg pet)
10 (vigorous renewal)
20 (regen 33% dration / +35% spirit proc chance)
0
River Drake / Red Moa
Greatsword / Axe / Warhorn or Axe offhand depending on situation and be careful of ace ricochet when that is not desired
Healig Spring / Frost spirt / stone spirit / signet of renewal or signet of stone (situational) / spirit of nature
For groups with existing support but in need of DPS, I typically go something like
30 (signet of beastmaster)
20
0
0
20
With berserker gear and rune of the ranger. The same weapon theory basically applies.
Stalker / River Drake
Heal as One or Troll Unguent or HS depending on situation
QZ / LR / Signet of Stone
Trait enlargment, bark skin, compassion training, or instinctual bond for even more fun! <3 rangers; oh, and if you’re in wvw, eat fire salsa. It basically maxes out ranger trollishness. Similarly, the stun builds with ranger are pretty hysterical and must simply be maddening to face.

I rarely contribute ideas to the forums because my belief is to leave that up to the devs who are the best at it. But the stealth trap announcement for WvW sort of got me thinking, and, I don’t know, I thought this is kind of cool. It’s probably not original and perhaps a bad idea so take it for what it’s worth:
Larcener’s Bane
Pets track targets under stealth.
(Pets would follow, not damage the stealthed target; pets stop and sniff then go in the thief’s direction, then stop and sniff, then go a few hundred units in thief’s direction, etc.)
If the pet tracked perfectly and cause damage, this trait would too strongly nullify thief’s primary source of mitigation: stealth, motivating the “stop and sniff” mechanic. Thoughts?

RNG gambling is certainly already in the game
From next patch:
Get packed for the return to Southsun Cove. An assortment of souvenirs from the Southsun islands. This chest contains Southsun crafting materials and a chance to get a wide variety of items such as shoulder skins, new boosts and conveniences, and a rare chance to get new weapon skins and mini pets.
Enjoy Anets rare chances. My collection of minis is over unless they are at the very least tradeable.
The way ANET releases limited edition RNG mini’s, I don’t think you’re supposed to be able to get every single one. I’d just focus on one’s I really want, if I were you.
Copyright is weird to me because it prevents my generation from re-using works from their own era. I’m not defending this band, just stating a drawback with non-creative commons works. Hopefully the designers at least cited gw2 as the source for the image. Nevertheless…this should be seen as tacky regardless of the legality of the action. It’s weak sauce, at best.
My guildie didn’t like you hanging out near Hills, cuddles. But I still got in a picture!
I am going to drop one on a shadow refuge and just laugh.
Great post, I agree about stun locking.
I agree with the trash mobs being harder than the actual dungeon bosses. Arah is a great example. The many undead Orr creatures have skills that down you in 1-2 hits; like the Undead Illusionists and their chaos storm. Ouch, standing in that chaos storm downs you in 2 hits. Crazy!
I hate static fields in general…unless ANET gives one to storm spirit, then I love them.
We’ve been preaching agility training, chills, cripples, and stuns for pets to land hits for a long time. The problem is that many players don’t like that gameplay. They want to drop powerful attacks while the cat lands every hit, right? If you run cat beastmaster you have to control your target. Sword is great for this. Has anyone tested cat vs dog when using mainhand sword?
I’m not a fan of the Sword because of the way the auto-attack locks you. >.<
But I’ll grab some steady weapons (so that I don’t do too much damage) and test it later.
The leap animations keep you crippling a running target while also buffing the cat with might
. The stickiness is a feature, not a bug.
Just burn down the spiders with AOE. Their numbers are finite.
This!
Sometimes that’s even a disadvantage. I saw an ANetter in the LA bank on Tarnished Coast last week. S/he was being very good natured about the swarm of people mobbing him/her, but really just wanted to head out and play. Yet people kept lobbing guild invites, questions, squeezing in photo ops …
I’m so glad I’m not famous. Life’s much more pleasant that way
That’s why they have secret handles. I am willing to bet that many guilds have ANET employees on their roster and don’t even know.

You want to take away my greatsword?
Question: if these speed runners are so good with aegis that they don’t get hit, why is pet death even an issue?
I ran CoE on my ranger and my jaguar pet couldnt live during the alpha aoe. In path 2/3 before the patch. Im a min maxer and i run zerk gear on my PvE toons and with proper evades i rarely go down. If i have to run a tankier pet so my pet has a chance to live through big aoe from mobs because it cant dodge ill just play my other toons. I find ranger fun and i love my jaguar and making me use a drake is BS.
In that case your pet will need lots of protection and support. It’s a paper tiger. I’ll take reliable dps over a cat, partcularly when it blast heals. Drake plus five standing people beats dead cat plus three standing people. Be flexible.
Pet was dying with perma protection and 30 BM with toughness signet. This was prepatch and i refuse to run a weaker dps pet because of Anet bad mechanics. I dont want aoe reduction like in other MMOS i just want my kitten pet to dodge.
:( yep, tough to be a ranger! Maybe it will improve even more in pve.

._. incoming leash nerf if ANET removes the BM/cripple/chill mechanic and replaces it with every pet running max speed and landing every hit (within 600 range) in 3, 2, 1, ….
Is that what you heathens want? Lol
