That was me. I’ve given my builds up to enough “enemy” players though, and I’ve paid for it in some atrociously long fights so far. So I’ll have to think about it. ^^

Just wondering what that color scheme you have is. Been looking for a better Gold other than Antique Gold. I like that scheme.

Heh, it actually is Antique. The tabard is just Green Tint under the gray hues. Makes me feel sort of silly for spending gold on white and black dyes.

I’ve met a LOT of great people through this feature. I’d honestly be at least 60% less inclined to step into WvW if this weren’t available. If you, for some reason, aren’t a fan of chatting with someone just because they’re on the other team…well, just decline their invites, alright?

I don’t know. I think they could lower the starting downed health slightly in WvW. I know the lowered it in sPvP, but it might be nice to include here as well. Even just a 15-25% drop.

I guess so. But I also think forcing it is just a bad idea. Some confusion is a nice touch, but I feel like it’d just cause more grief than anything for most players.

As a stylistic choice, I can agree with making it optional.

I never would have thought of this. Seems a little too underhanded for me to ever actually do though.

Give people who are into this an option to hide nameplates. Don’t force it though.

Aaa… so you’re the guardian we dueled earlier at the windmill 8D I was the D/D ele fighting with you earlier, although it ended in a stalemate due to both of us being tanks I really enjoyed the fight we had earlier ^^ Will prolly be calling you for practice sessions if i need to test a build haha…

Sure am. I’ve actually been making some changes to my build to help me kill a little faster, hopefully without sacrificing my survival. So far it’s working pretty well…I just need to get used to bursting more efficiently, and I need to consider swapping out my healing sigil for a power sigil. Or something.

And sure thing, hit me up any time you want to try a new build. I don’t get a lot of solid fights lately. :P

Outside of Thieves and Eles, if you get caught in the middle of an enemy group, you shouldn’t expect to get away unless you’re built very defensively. I don’t play a bunker, but I have no problem getting away from group encounters as a GS/Sword+Focus guardian with no “escape” skills on my utility bar except for Judge’s or Retreat. Renewed Focus does help to some degree. You just can’t run forever if you were already inside the group.

Get rid of it in competitive PvP. WvW doesn’t qualify. It’s not a huge deal in WvW. I can almost guarantee you that a few people with MF exotics in a zerg won’t mean the difference between a wipe or a win against an enemy zerg or tower. Because, if anything, the opposing probably zerg has an equal or higher number of persons in MF gear.

As far as MF food goes…not a big deal. The stat difference is so trivial.

There is no such thing as an MMO without some form of grinding. There never will be (and don’t give me that console stuff, it doesn’t count). What GW2 has is a significant step down from what we’ve seen in games like WoW (of which I am an avid player). Ever tried to get a legendary there? HAH. Ever tried to gear up there? HAH.

On that note, a 5-8% average stat increase on the single new tier they 1) said they wanted to add at launch but didn’t have the time or method and 2) have stated is the only one they’re ever adding (they’re releasing the set over time, not introducing new tiers)…well, you know what? Short version: that’s not a treadmill.

If you’re unhappy that you have to put in some time and effort for your rewards, then MMOs may not be your game.

My short answer is “yes.”

Deception and trickery is, in most cases of open war, against the Geneva Conventions.

Stacking precision leaves very little room for consistent damage, especially without any crit damage % to back it up. I build myself pretty defensively, but I do intent to kill my targets. Vitality stacking is great, but…I just love toughness. I go mob diving for fun, and I do it with a health pool of 13.9k (14.6k with my food buff—I use the one that regens 88 health/sec and gives +70 vitality).

I just find the combination of healing power and toughness to be flat-out incredible. The only things that might give you trouble in the survival department in the 1v1-3 area would be glass cannon thieves and mesmers. And in that case, it’s really just a matter of mitigating the burst as best you can. I use Shelter…laugh it up.

The toughness stacking mitigates an excellent amount of damage from things like autoattacks, mesmer clones, and…well, anything that doesn’t do large burst damage. The healing power is an incredible counter to conditions with Rejuv and Regen and scales on a 1:1 ratio with Selfless Daring in WvW, which is amazing. It’s only 0.5:1 in sPvP, but that’s still pretty solid. I actually run the meta bunker build there, but I hate it.

You also have to look at HP as a type of soft Vitality. It won’t save you from death if you get caught in a bad stun and 6+ people all use their big hitters on you at once and you have no blocks, but that doesn’t happen often. Over the course of a reasonably long fight, healing power stacking accounts for a very, very high amount of healing done between all of our healing abilities, especially if you trait sort of defensively.

OH, I know what you’re talking about. This has happened to me once or twice. If I wait until I’m on the very edge to jump, it doesn’t do it. I’ve since been able to avoid the issue by just using swiftness and jumping earlier. :/

I do stuff like this regularly for fun. Just takes practice. It also helps when the enemy doesn’t know how to shut you down (immobilize for my particular build). Then again, my utility is almost all about shutting that down. My current record is 1v4, no scaled characters, ending in a 4:0 K:D. I’m not saying they were the greatest of foes, but…

Just don’t try to play a glass cannon.

Edit: @OP, use more immobilizes.

I hate to say it…but it’s either latency or you’re genuinely not that great at the puzzle. Just practice more. And/or try again when EBG isn’t that full.

Most glass cannons I’ve fought (I’m a Cleric’s-based Guardian) can tell you that they wish they weren’t glass cannons when fighting me. You just have to know how to stop their burst. I wouldn’t ever think of playing a glass cannon Guardian after playing a more defensive build.

Well, not seriously. I do carry a glass cannon set because glass cannon Tome of Wrath is lolzy during sieges.

As far as ranged options for keep offense/defense goes, sure, I agree. For defense I usually slap on WoR and bomb rams with the GS. For offense, I’ll really just slam on the gate and drag people down with Binding Blades.

Edit: For reference, my main set is full Cleric’s with full Sapphire jewelry. I use the Power/Tough/Vit guild backpack because there are no Healing back items. :/ I use GS+Scepter/Focus primarily.

I think people just assume that human (key word) designers, programmers, artists, producers, and testers have the time and resources to work on new content for everything ever at the same time, all the time.

WvW is what I play this game for. February is barely 3 months away. I can wait, especially considering I spent $50 on a game that I never have to spend another real dime on again in exchange for years and years of quality content.

I’m not complaining, but considering the current score…why? There’s also a manned ballista on the spawn, several others near the entrance platforms, and a group of equal or greater size of that one on the portal platform.

I really just keep mob diving to see how long I’ll last at this point. It’s fun; don’t ask why. :>

Any post containing anything that can in any way be misconstrued as off-topic by a bored moderator (moderators are people, people get bored, bored people act with little discretion — it’s basic psych), even if its context is perfectly within the bounds of the topic, appears to be deleted and given an infraction lately.

Now, I understand the need to moderate boards. I understand the desire to try extra hard to keep them tidy. But this is…well, excessive. I’m an active member of dozens of message boards and have been a member of many more in the past. In all of my years, I’ve never had to complain about moderation. It bugs me that I have anything to say now.

More and more it just seems like Anet really is new to all of this; true MMOs, official community forums, etc. Perhaps scared even. My word of advice: lighten up. Things don’t have to be nailed down and tried so hard at to make work. And in particular, ease up on the forums a bit. I can almost guarantee that people that are usually very active, positive, and social on forums are being scared away from ever posting here.

I love the heck out of my Guardian. Without going into too much detail, I can solo the vast majority of group events that don’t involve weird anti-solo mechanics (I’ve solo’d Lengedaries to as low as 70% before other players showed up). Or events that involve Eyes of Zhaitan…because wow, those hit hard.

As far as WvW goes, I regularly take on (and defeat) groups of 1-4 enemy players at a time, depending on their individual levels, gear, and skill. I can survive long enough against slightly larger groups for my zerg to get half-way across the map to save me. Just takes some practice.

I don’t know much about Warriors though, sorry.

I’m not sure what you want arguments for. They cannot push updates for everything at once. They said in the AMA this week that they are actively working on progression, rewards, and other additions to WvW. These are both facts. What more do you want?

Tulisin is right. And they can’t just pump out content for everyone back-to-back. Production takes time. Testing takes time. Implementation takes time. They’ll get to WvW when they get to WvW. There’s a lot of stuff in this game for them to go through.

When you bought the game, you paid for the entire thing, whether you choose to play the rest of it or not. WvW is only a part of a very large whole, even if it’s your one and only.

That said, they’ve said a few times quite recently that they’re working on additions to WvW, in terms of progression and gameplay. As with all things in life, you should just be patient. Rushed things are broken things that people will just complain about anyway.

Please? Sometimes we don’t need 5 stones. Sometimes we only need 1-4. It’s infuriating to have to buy 5 if we want to transmute something.

I’ve been following this thread, and I’m confused about something. I have not done any of the Arah explorables and lack the time to on most days. So here’s my question.

Can I get a time line of the following events? The writing of the Tome of Rubicon, the Mursaat/Seer war, the last rise of the EDs, the creation of the Bloodstones, the arrival of the Six Gods with the Humans, and…well, anything in between?

I was under the impression that the Six created the Bloodstones (well, five of them). Now, from what I’m reading, it was actually the Seers? So confused…I really have to do those explorables.
