Are you saving the scientists in the southeast room? That will reduce his HP by 25%.

Oh yeah, Destabilized.I forgot about that.
Though that room doesn’t open up until after scale 20 and is mandatory on 40+. So I’m guessing with the level scaling, it ends up being roughly the same fight.

Opening up that room for under scale 20 would be an ok change.

Chrury.4627

Funny, in the couple dozen times I’ve done Thaumanova, I think I’ve only had a party wipe at Anomaly…once or twice?

So, no. I don’t think it needs a… squishification debuff. If anything, I’d just want to have the platforms be less transparent.

If you and your party are having trouble, try spreading out and then not moving until necessary. Fewer people moving means less chance of someone trapping a party member on a soon-to-fall platform. When the bomb debuff hits you, run to the outer edge and then around to avoid teammates.

Sorry to hear it’s been frustrating. But it is manageable.

What's a decent solo/pve Ranger build?

in Ranger

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

simple solo/pve play

I’d say you can run pretty much anything for solo PvE and dungeons.

You almost can’t go wrong with Beastmastery as a start. The better your pet is the better you are. Shouts are really useful now and the adept reduction trait is in BM and works great.

Going shortbow, you might want to consider skirmishing as well. There’s leeway of course but the bleed traits in the line synergize well, assuming your condition damage is decent. If you’re more power focused, you can swap to Primal Reflexes and Spotter. Then it’s up to you whether to take the Light on Your Feet GM trait (SB skill recharge reduction + pierce) or Quick Draw. (If you swap weapons a lot)

You’ll want at least some condition removal. You can go brown bear, but you need to be close to him. You can take the signet of renewal and just let its passive do most of the work. Or you can spec Wilderness survival and use either Empathic Bond or Wilderness Knowledge. Empathic gives you more flexibility on build (the condis actually don’t transfer to your pet, they just disappear) but taking WK and a few survival skills won’t hurt. Going condi, you can take the Elite entangling vines and Sharpening Stone for extra hurting when you cleanse.

That should give you some ideas. When you get to HoT, you might want to look into Markmanship. CC is king in the jungle.

BLTC updates request: "Also shown"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a small thing. I enjoy that the BLTC updates (like the one today ) are written semi-in universe.

Would it be possible to add little parentheticals under the images (or alt-text) to show what else is being shown/worn? I quite like a number of the looks ANet whips up for these little promo shots but there’s little way for me to efficiently figure out what’s what.

Just something like
(Outfit seen here dyed dye color and other dye color; Sold separately.)
or
(Model displaying the Bunny Hood is also wearing X, Y, and Z; each sold separately.)

Just for fun.

[Suggestion] Next elite spec?

in Ranger

Chrury.4627

I was thinking shield could be fun. Skill 4 would be a charge a-la Demoman in TF2. More range = more damage dealt, max range causes knockdown. Gain attack of opportunity on hit.

And maybe the spec could transform each 5 skill to be another possible AA chain. What you gain would be balanced by what you lose. Torch with a fireswipe chain instead of bonfire?

Skills…hmm… Physical? or perhaps pet combo skills?

any tricks to 200%participation or levelen

Chrury.4627

If you start at the beginning or relatively early into a meta-event cycle and do events until finish, that should net you 200%. No tricks beyond that.

As for masteries, getting buffs help. Guild XP buff, food, utility item, + some others stack with each other. The extra 10-25% adds up.

About unlocking masteries..

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

So on your hero panel, there is now a Masteries tab. This shows you all the masteries you have access to.

To unlock the ability to train in and use Masteries; you will need to play the first (pretty short) mission in HoT as it says.

Once you have done that, you can choose a Mastery line from your Mastery tab (some will be locked until certain conditions are met) with the big “Train” button. With your mastery selected, you have to do two things.
1: Gain experience. Each tear requires a different amount of experience to unlock. Your bottom bar will now keep track of your progress with this, and there’s a little icon on the right of the bar to remind you what mastery you are currently training. (Tip, this icon is also a shortcut to the Mastery tab)
2: Gain Mastery points. Mastery points are gained by doing certain achievements around the world. Check your achievement panel and your will see mastery icons on achievement categories. This lets you know which achieves reward mastery points. You should already have a few from completing the base story.
In HoT, there are also mastery points scattered about the new maps. You can get these by just channelling them like a hero point.

Once you have your exp bar filled for your mastery and you have enough points to spend; you can go into your mastery panel and click the square button on the mastery to unlock it.

The system will automatically start the next mastery in a particular line but you are free to swap around what mastery you are training whenever you wish. The experience you’ve earned for each mastery will stay.

If you want to get the most story out of the way, I’d suggest doing that first HoT mission to unlock masteries, then doing Living Story 2. It’s not mandatory but you’ll get an idea of how our heroes came to know to attack the jungle dragon.

Those are 2 different things and it mentions 2 different things: Masteries and Mastery Tracks. What is the difference?

Mastery Tracks are the categories. Masteries are the individual sections within those categories. For example “Gliding” is the Mastery Track but “Updraft Use” is the second mastery in “Gliding”

Low Tier player pool

Chrury.4627

In addition to the small player pool, the “pro” players are playing on alts to get matches. This means they stomp there way through the divisions again. So, they compound the problems that got them slow matches to begin with.

This game wasn’t built to be esports, it wasn’t advertised or promoted as esports and the audience doesn’t want esports. I hope anet realizes this in time.

This is happening? That’s just plain unsportsmanlike.
Might explain a little what I experienced today. I started super late but decided to give it a shot. First 3 matches were decent, 2 wins and a loss. Today I hit an 11 losing streak before winning one. Expletive.
I’m obviously a casual PvPer but I can have some fun in unranked and get roughly a 50/50 win/loss ratio. This is just demoralizing.

Sigil of Paralyzation Don't work on Warrior

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Chrury.4627

As far as I can tell, the sigil of Paralyzation hasn’t functioned properly since they “fixed” it a year or two ago (the sigil was rounding up to the nearest second). I, at least, haven’t seen it affect tooltips or actual length of stuns/dazes on Ranger or Thief.

If/when they fix it, I’d really like the sigil to explicitly state that it works on stuns and dazes. As it should.

I was also doing Fractals 34, 35, 36 at the time. Luckily the party members were understanding.

PETS

  • Conditions, Boons, Buffs, and Debuffs displayed on the player UI without having to click on the pet.
  • Porcine “Forage” flips the F2 skill icon to the foraged item so it is not a bundled item on the ground or in the player’s hands.

Yes, please. I know it’s screen clutter but I’d really like to see what’s on my pet at any given time.

  • Tail Wind & Furious Grip cooldowns reduced from 9s to 8s to be friendly with Superior Rune of the Warrior like Primal Echoes.
  • Quickdraw buff duration increased from 5s to 6s so Whirling Defense does not have to be canceled to take advantage of the trait.
  • Allies’ Aid cooldown lowered to match the new cooldown of “Search & Rescue!”

These are fair.

  • Shared Anguish renamed and redone to cast “Protect Me!” when disabled.

Eh? Ok, would it share the recharge of “Protect Me!”? When does the stun-break happen? Immediately? Would it negate the one disable and then cast the shout?
I’m having a bit of trouble visualizing how that would work.

  • Most Dangerous Game pulses 1s of Fury. It is all this trait needs to make it competitive within its GM tier.

Are you crazy? Paired with Remorseless and you have never-ending crits while <50%! I mean, I’d run it but still!
But then, the trait wouldn’t be worth it by itself. Ranger already has access to a decent amount of fury. I fail to see how more fury would help when you’re in the danger zone.

Personally, I’d just change the Might application to 5 stacks of 5 seconds per second. Just so you cap at 25 without help.

  • Predator’s Instinct needs an interval to activate on multiple targets below the threshold rather than a single, universal cooldown.

I don’t see them doing this unless they retool similar traits as well. Thief’s Panic Strike for one. I will agree that the skill is sub-par, however. In PvP it would get cleansed pretty quick and the single dose of cripple is pretty useless in PvE.

  • Sharpening Stone needs attention. Either the cooldown is reduced, effect also applies to the pet, or is changed into something new or extra function added.

I think applying the effect to the pet is the best bet. It’s already pretty decent as an instant cast. Applying to the pet would double its effectiveness.

Ele vs Degen

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

My Primary is an Ele with Full Soldier’s gear, PVT, and Superior Melandru Runes +V+T; which I’m quite happy with 80% of the time. I simply don’t have the dexerity to make full onZerker work for me, bouncing around like a jack rabbit on meth.

Anyhow I need a Alternate armor set I can swap to In High Degen zones, and I am not sure If a Highter Vitality Prime or Healing Prime would be best … So your thoughts on best armor set when facing large amounts of Armor bypassing Damage. C.

I don’t think swapping your gear stats out is going to help too much. You have pretty solid Vit with Soldier’s already.

I’d instead look for ways to either passively or actively remove the conditions before they hurt too much. That means changing your build up a bit.

As an Ele, you have weapon skills on scepter and focus that’ll cure a condition. In water attunement, staff and OH dagger also get one.
Ether Renewal (heal) will cure a number over it’s cast time.
You have Cleansing Wave and Signet of Water for utilities.
And you have Burning Fire, Cleansing Wave, and Cleansing Water to remove condis in your Fire and Water traitlines. If you spec Earth, Diamond Skin will save a good bit of trouble as well.

You could also look into Sigils of Purity, Cleansing, or Generosity to proc condi removal passively. You might also look into buying some soup for an extra removal on heal.

Info taken from this wiki page: LINK

Luckily, build changes are free and easy.
Is there some other non-condi, armor-ignoring damage that’s giving you trouble? I assume you’re not dealing with agony and most unblockables I can think of are well-telegraphed and huge.

Does Sigil of Paralyzation do anything?

in Players Helping Players

Chrury.4627

Hey guys,
I’ve looked into Sigil of Paralyzation for a couple control heavy builds (Thief/DD, Ranger, Engie/Scrapper) but I can’t notice any difference?

I know it’s a small change but the tooltips don’t seem to change their stun/daze durations at all. It’s also one of those things that would usually be hard to notice just by playing but Hilt Bash (Ranger GS 5) traited with Moment of Clarity is 2.25 secs so the extra 30% should pull it up to a noticeable ~2.9-3 seconds. Palm Strike at 2 secs should pull up to 2.6 secs but it doesn’t seem to change either.

:Sigh: I miss the days when the sigil was bugged and just rounded the stun/daze effects to the nearest second…

So am I crazy? Or is the Sigil bugged all over?

Help me not suck in HOT zones with Breakbars

Chrury.4627

Oh hey, I can actually give my input here. I too went for CC/power went entering HoT.

It sounds like you’re on the right track though. Biggest problem is HoT breakbars seem a good deal tougher than their core counterparts. So you might not be able to destroy them in one rotation.

My first question would be what’s your second pet? The dogs in general are a good choice for reasons you mention, though their applied condition is sometimes a little weak on breakbars. I’d suggest looking at taking Pink Moa/Black Moa for their dazing screech. It’s an actual CC so it’ll do a chunk of damage to the bar all at once.
I personally use Black Moa/Wolf. There’s usually enough downtime on breakbar recharge that the long recharge of Howl isn’t an issue, and Fear does the most DPS on breakbars when compared to the other soft CC conditions.

You can also double up on your utilities. Spike Trap does HUGE damage to breakbars, and Muddy Terrain drops Immob and Cripple.

If that’s STILL not quite enough, you might want to try LB/GS and take Moment of Clarity and Two-Handed Training. GS 5 is lovely.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

A quick quote from the wiki:
“Dungeon tracks are on a two week rotating cycle. Players can complete the story mode of the associated dungeon—or in the case of Arah, completion of Victory or Death or explorable mode—to unlock its reward track permanently.”

So I’d suggest going through an explorable path. It’s not all that much gold if you buy a run and only 30-45 minutes with a PUG. If I’m remembering right, most explorable runs are faster than story mode runs anyway (fewer cutscenes and roadblocks).

I can appreciate the annoyance of doing content you don’t care for but this is no more than one play session to get it unlocked. If you want to start unlocking Arah skins, you might not have a choice.

If it doesn’t unlock from explorable, file a bug report.

Attributes. . .Ranger

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

I’m a little confused by how you worded your question. I’ll answer what I think you’re asking and you can clarify if I missed it, k?

If you’re leveling a ranger in PvE, don’t worry about attributes yet. Just use whatever gear you get as drops or from karma vendors that match your current level. That’ll get you all the way through the story.

After you hit 80 or if you’re doing PvP/WvW, you can look into what you feel you need help with. Are you running conditions but your condition damage is piddly? Do you survive for a long time but hit like a wet noodle? Do you do a few awesome hits but get downed regularly?

There’s really no one best answer to this, despite there being “meta” builds. It’s really about seeing how your gear can support your playstyle. Everyone prefers different stat combos and many change up what they wear for what they’re running at the time.

Unless you’re running a support druid or similar, the one outlier seems to be Healing Power. It won’t hurt you to put a few points in there, but most skills that heal have a low attribute coefficient making the difference seem insignificant. Picking toughness or vitality over healing power generally has more noticeable results.

If you’re asking about the TRAITS and TRAITLINES for a ranger, again it’s really up to you. I’ve used all the traitlines and most of the traits at one point or another, depending on what I wanted to do that day. Meta builds are meta, but they aren’t law.

Hope this helps.

Dungeon Armour

Chrury.4627

I’m personally already geared the way I like so I just vendor the runes as they’re account bound. I’m also just salvaging the pieces of armor as I’m just interested in collecting the skins.

If you want to keep the armor but not the rune, you can just add the rune you want to the piece of armor and it will replace the old rune. You are not forced to remove an upgrade (rune or otherwise) to add a new one.

The extractor is the only way to get the rune off of the armor without salvaging it but you can buy the rune itself from the same vendor if you’re mixing armor but want the full rune set.

Hope this helps

in PvP

From the wiki :

Characters used in structured PvP gain access to a separate PvP Build. This mechanic allows players to be on an equal playing field with the same attributes, skills, traits, and equipment options as other players. Players can change the character’s build through the PvP Build panel.

In other words, stats are normalized in PvP. Assuming the same Amulet and Rune, a level 1 Mesmer will have the same numerical stats as a level 80 Mesmer. Different classes have a bit of variation.

So the only functional difference between a PvP level 1 and a PvP level 80 is the amount of time on that character.

BTW: 19 out of 46 is a decent w/l ratio. That’s about 40%. That’s about where I sit too.

Too many specialization icons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

I brought this up in a thread I made yesterday. Having unique icons seems like it would be a disadvantage in high level PvP. If you’re using an elite spec, your opponent can see it and thus know what roughly a third of your build looks like.

I know if I’m on my Ranger and I see a Reaper; I’ll be running away and making myself useful somewhere else thankyouverymuch.

Consider not having Elite Spec icons

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

Hey, I’m not in the beta but, thanks to PvP, I’ve been able to fight beside and against the various elite specs.

In doing so, I noticed that the elite specs get unique profession icons when you target a player. This seems a little unbalanced.

I’ll admit to not being a high level player where this would matter but if you give the specs an icon, wouldn’t that be giving the opponent an advantage? Suddenly you can target a player and, without even engaging, have a pretty good idea what roughly 1/3 of their build looks like.
Seeing a profession wielding a spec specific weapon has a similar effect but falls under ‘playing the game instead of playing the interface’ that Anet loves.

It would also be a shame if we started seeing people being kicked from parties based on their completely visible spec.

It’s also worth noting that adding elite spec icons gives us another 9 things to recognize. Now we can get used to them but I can see that getting unwieldy when you add the next 9 (or 10) and the next 9 (or 10).

An extremely small thing, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.

No clue where Antitoxin would fit into that.
Or Mistfire Wolf. Now that’s an interesting case.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

On topic, I only have one build I’m kinda worried about and it’s for my engie, the class that’s the furthest from being finished.

I run a 4/4/0/6/0 Celestial/Traveler’s build based on Flamethrower and Elixer gun. I don’t currently like the suggested change to Juggernaut as I don’t see pulsing stability as a substitute to pulsing might. No word on if the +200 toughness stays either.

I’m ok with the combination of Incendiary Powder and Napalm Specialist, ( even as a Grandmaster) but Fireforged Trigger and Deadly Mixture are currently MIA. Actually, there doesn’t seem to be a Flamethrower specific trait on the list yet. That would seriously hamper my Flamethrower use.

It sounds like they want to split it so we have a single trait per kit. I just hope I can properly spec both FT and EG at the same time.

[Suggestion] Hide achieves option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chrury.4627

Chrury.4627

This is a small thing that might irk only me but I thought I’d share.

On the “Summary” section of the achievement pane, we have this “Nearly Completed” section. From what I can tell, these only update when A: you complete the achieve or its current tier or B: a different achieve has made enough progress to be closer to completion and replaces one.

I find the feature useful most of the time. Knowing I only need to kill 200 more creatures with a pistol or defeat 20 more players in PvP will subtly direct my gameplay.

Unfortunately, without progress on an achievement, some achieves can get perpetually stuck on this list. There are a few achieves that I got reasonably far in but, for one reason or another, decided they weren’t worth finishing. Their always being in the “Nearly Completed” just makes me angry as I know I’ll never go back to get them and that space could be showing me some other, more fun achieve that I could be close to.

(For those wondering, the two on my account that annoy me most are “Go for the Gold” 27/28 and “Dive Master” 34/38)

I’d like to request some sort of hide option on achievements so they won’t show up in the “Nearly Completed” list. Something similar to Windows 7’s Start menu option “Remove from this list” would be perfect. You might even extend the functionality to having a category of “Hidden” achievements to keep them out of sight while achieve browsing.

Thanks for reading.

My current setup is default keybindings except for E being my “interact” key, F is “stow weapon” and I have my two extra mouse buttons set to my heal and my elite.

Should I play hotjoin or solo ranked?

let me be honest with you , if you go unranked , be prepared for the flames that willl come if you do something wrong and even more if you do not play meta builds..

so my suggestion is , get the meta build for your proffesion and go unranked, dont be surprised if you fail hard at the start , because 40 games is nothing , there are players with 14k games, tbh i have no idea if the game takes the number of games into account , i dont have the feeling it does

ps: switch your status to offline , so no one can flame you via whisper and ignore chat if the flame the chat

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
It’s funny though, most games I’ve played are as quiet as a tomb chat-wise.
And the only time I’ve been outright insulted thus far was from a Guardian on the other team. He was mad that he couldn’t kill me and that I couldn’t kill him. Meanwhile I was having a blast trying to outmaneuver him. Never did but it was fun trying.

Hey guys,
I’m a lower level casual PvPer at < 40 games. I’d like to try some more PvP but I’m not sure if I should stick to hotjoin or move to solo ranked.

See, I like to think that I play the game-type pretty well. I keep tabs on where everyone is running and move based on that. I keep a focus on capping and keeping points over skirmishing and I don’t double up on near. And thus my win/lose ratio is about 50%.

Trouble is, I’m not the best at the fighting and/or disengaging part somehow. I’ve tried a few builds (not meta most times) on my characters but I can’t seem to hold my own on more than a 1v1. (And even then, some classes give me more trouble than others. Not hating though; good show, thieves)

So I’m wondering if I should move to solo ranked where I’m more likely to be matched with people of my skill and hopefully have more fun with the mode. Thoughts?

Oh, unrelated: anyone have a suggestion for skill key bindings? Having to reach for my utilities isn’t ideal obviously.

Will there be underwater combat?

Actually serious. There is (or was) at least one lake in Maguuma Jungle. Had some roaming groups of wind riders. Very annoying to run through.

Why don't you like SPvP

I have a few issues with sPvP/PvP in general. I understand that some of this are l2p issues but if it’s not easy to get into, it’s not easy to get into ya know?

1) The big one is the control setup doesn’t feel conducive to the speed at which the game is played. You have movement + 10-14 skills + jump + dodge + move the mouse to aim and select target AND turn your camera. That’s a lot to juggle at once when you’re trying to stay in motion (as staying still = death) and thinking about the objective(s).
Besides this, the default control keybinds are completely out of reach and there’s not even a suggestion on a better layout. I have swapped use to “E” and set “F” to holster weap as well as put my heal and elite on mouse buttons but that still leaves my utilities out of reach on 7,8,9. This is not a problem in PvE as you generally have enough time to adjust your bearings or swipe down with your mouse before something kills you.
It also doesn’t help that the switch target keybinds seem to rotate arbitrarily. This leads to trying to mouse target while rotating the camera, while moving, while THEY’RE moving/dodging. Maybe AoE spam is easier; I wouldn’t know.

2) Because of the above, 2 on 1s are by design unbalanced. It’s the rare time when I could successfully survive or even run if a 1 on 1 becomes a 2 on 1. I don’t whine about it but it certainly isn’t fun.

3) They removed Raid on the Capricorn. Only half joking on this one. As a Ranger main, this was one of the only places where I felt powerful bordering on OP. Holding the underwater point for the duration of a match was possibly the most fun I’d had in GW2.

Those three (well, 2 and a half) are why I, personally, don’t PvP. I honestly couldn’t care less about MMR, rankings, leaderboards, and the like. Especially if playing feels clunky.

1) i agree with that and its easy to do so. Unfortunately laurels are like 3 times in a month so i just have to wait haha
2)what class are you using to do a full zone in 30 mins? O.o as in hearts, vista, poi, skill and wps all in an avg of 30 mins?
3)i find it hard finding a party for fractals… unless im using the lfg system wrong…
4)doesnt karma train in orr depend on your server and the time of day as well?
5)can you elaborate on tp flipping? O.o

Oh, I can answer a couple of these.
1) yeah that’s a drag. Festivals might reward more later if they follow this previous Wintersday’s example.
2) I don’t know about him but the maps without hearts are faster to map in general. Otherwise, wow. Quite the speedrunner.
3) dunno lol
4) Thanks to megaservers, it no longer matters what server you’re on but time of day will still be a factor to have enough people.
5) There are or were a number of threads about making money on the TP. It’s really just playing the TP like a real life commodities market. Buy low, sell high. Good for accumulating wealth if you have the capital to start but there’s risk involved as well. Others can elaborate more than I.

-yah too bad not all hearts can be done with ‘kill x’ events xD how i wish lol
-with my current guardian settup, im able to run around with perma swoftness + teleport for some hella quick movement lol just sucks to have to alt tab every now and then to update which way im supposed to run to. Does making GW2 windowed and having a map guide open on the left side work?
-i thought only exotics give you ectos? O.o
- i have a copper fed salvage kit so i hope that suffices? >. <
-hmmm what if it was kryta mining the previous day then maguuma wood chopper the next? Isnt it more efficient to just go around one zone at a time? I also do my dailies in pvp since its the quickest way and i could use those tomes of experience or whatever xD
-yah WvW i think will be the hardest one to map lol just takes time for it i guess haha xD
-hmmm true… about precursors lol i heard some ppl waste more gold going to mystic than buying it straight up xD

- Yeah…>> There are a few annoying hearts I won’t deny that.
- lol “perma swoftness” sounds like you’re making whooshing noises while running around. XD.
But yeah, GW2 works just fine windowed.
- Ectos can be salvaged from both rare and exotic pieces of equipment of level 68 or higher. Globs of Dark Matter is limited to salvaging exotic stuff but that’s only used for ascended.
- Your copper fed salvage kit can replace the Fine salvage kit. I’d still suggest getting a Master’s/Mystic to salvage rares. It has a higher chance for salvaging rare mats (ecto, Ori, Ancient Wood). Specific info here: LINK
- If your two hours a week is spread out over the week (25 minutes a day?) instead of one chunk on the weekend, go ahead and stay in one map for consistency. Then jump based on dailies when you finish a map.

With the changes to the daily system, I’d ignore them if the immediate reward isn’t beneficial or nearby (thus my suggestion with gatherer and world boss dailies). The rewards you get from AP are nice but not time effective. Also PvP dailies only reward PvP xp so it only indirectly helps your legendary through mats from reward tracks. Time better spent world exploring IMO.

Best of luck. d(^_^)

Those are all some long term goals. Which is not a bad thing!
{The following is my opinion.}
Since you have exotic armor/weapons, you are more than equipped to do world completion. I’d say go for #2 and slowly work on #3 at the same time.

With that in mind, here are some tips:
- Do events near hearts. Especially “kill X” type of events. They fill hearts super fast.
- Gather whatever you come across but don’t go out of your way for a node if it isn’t Orichalcum. Any and everything in your material storage can be sold to fund your Legendary.
- Slot the trait or signet with the speed boost. You don’t need the extra utility/damage if you’re mapping.
- If you can’t get to a POI or Vista, don’t be afraid to ask in /map or /wiki the area you’re in.
- Grab yourself a mystic salvage kit if you can get it or a master’s salvage kit. Use this one to salvage rares you come across for ectoplasm. If the price of the rare on the TP is less than an ecto, salvage. Otherwise sell.
- Also grab a Fine Salvage kit. Use this one to salvage all the Fine (blue) items you get, except for Light armor. Light armor usually salvages to Silk, which is sought after for Ascended armor, so it’s usually safe to sell on TP. The rest of the items will salvage to mats and luck.
- For Masterwork items, either salvage with the Fine kit for more luck/mats or hold onto them and Mystic forge them after clearing a map. Dropping them in the forge gives a 20% chance to upgrade to a rare item and thus more ecto.
- Use the dailies to your advantage. If there’s a [region] logger/miner/forager achievement, go to that region to map. Completing the achieve will net you bonus materials.
-Same for the daily world boss achieves. Check “/wiki list of world bosses” to see if the daily boss fits in your schedule. The small ones (Fire Elemental, Svanir Shaman, Shadow Behemoth, Jungle Wurm) only take 10 minutes if you get there at the right time and reward you with a minimum of two rares (one from the achieve, one from beating it that day) to salvage with chances at other nifty stuff. Ignore the larger bosses (with the possible exception of Shatterer) as they take way too long.
- Ignore jumping puzzles in the interest of time. Some of the areas are required for map completion so just get in and get out.
- When your material storage gets filled with Mithril and Elder wood, craft rare weapons with them for more ectos.
- Skip vista movies
- Map WvW as soon as you can and map as much as you can in one session. You can run through most of the map unhindered if you’re smart but towers and keeps need to be owned by your world (or broken into) for you to get at the POI/Vista within. This is probably the most annoying part of map completing. Luckily, the worlds swap positions every match so you can get at what was before closed to you.
- Work on getting Mystic clovers before focusing on the other tier 6 mats. It’s RNG so you’ll invariably get other stuff you need while trying for them.
- Talk to scouts to find hearts. Some have wonky active areas.
- don’t waste money trying to get the precursor from the mystic forge. Save gold and place a buy order.

I’m currently using these tactics to work on my first legendary as well. I hope some of this helps.
