My main concerns are:
> Will I be held back purely on the basis of not owning HoT?
> Will I be able to ‘catch up’ with mastery points given I do not own (and do not want to own) HoT?
> Will I be outclassed by people who own specializations from both HoT and PoF? As an example, will I be fighting Reaper Necromancers who have access to Scourge abilities?
> Can the PoF expansion features be used in all aspects of the game, or are some features taken out in some areas? e.g. are mounts disabled in WvW?
> As to whether the expansion specializations put vanilla builds to shame in certain aspects, (e.g. “Reaper puts vanilla condi mancer to shame in WvW” – as an example), would I be limited for owning one expansion and not the other?

Well not really, but HoT has improved as time went by. You should reconsider it you also get a chance if you buy the story episodes for Living world season three to go to new places. I am pretty sure season three you have to have HoT. which gives you Six new areas to explore. You are now judging HoT from two years ago since so much has changed from that time you should give HoT another SHoT lol.

Mastery points are split up into Core game Red, HoT Green, and PoF will be a purple. PoF will all be toward Mounts you earn nothing else. HoT gives the most masteries in the game as of now. Also gliding is fun

Hmm a reaper necro with scourge abilities well that cannot happen actually since both are elite specialization and can only be used one at a time.

From what I have seen and read mounts will be able to be used in the entire game they just introduced gliding to wvw, but not sure about mounts there though

I just do not understand the Hate people have for Heart of Thorns. Yes it was different, yes it was difficult sometimes, but all that could of been overcome by any player. HoT taught me to step my game up and adjust. You cannot face roll through everything in an MMO especially GW2. Remember Anet is constantly trying new things in GW2 not just making the same content with new creatures. The lands themselves are part of it to.

To be honest I think you should give HoT a second chance you may be surprised. Also if u get the full package its only $20 more for HoT.

What are you exactly trying to say? That you want HoT to be required to play PoF or.. And isn’t it good that they aren’t making that requirement?

No I am saying that its cool actually they did not follow that idea of other MMO’s They did something similar in Guildwars before that with Campaigns instead of expansions.

Chyanne Waters.8719

Even in a true MMORPG Anet does it again it changes the idea of how expansions work.

A bit of history of Guildwars for those who never played. In 2005 Anet came out with Prophecies a stand alone game to start out with Basing that game on Magic the Gathering card game instead of Dungeons of dragons for skills, but in a Dungeons and Dragons world. They did not want to give the game away so they put a price on It, and made the game free to play aka buy to play.

In 2006 the first totally new game called Factions now unlike an expansion it also was a stand alone game, or Campaign. The difference was you could add to prophecies and expand that game if you wanted, but you didn’t have to.

Six months later they release Nightfall again under the same idea as Factions a Campaign and again you could attach that to the entire game or choose not to.
Now putting them all together made a very nice game totally if that is what you wished.

In 2007 the Anet team was coming up with ideas for a new Campaign, but they wanted more things the current game engine could not handle it was too old so they Scrapped Utopia. Because of this they announced a new MMO it was to be called Guildwars 2

Now for Guildwars the only expansion that will link it with Guildwars 2 is called Guild Wars Eye of the North (GWEN) GWEN had to have a Campaign to be played. It also introduced us the the Asuran directly. We already knew the Charr and Norn, but started working with some of them in GWEN.

My point of this instead of making Guildwars 2 first expansion Heart of Thorns to be required to be able to play its second Expansion Path of Fire. Anet scraps that idea completely. and let’s you play one without the other, of course it’s best when you have both.

In MMO’s the tradition is to make a game add expansion then another to extend the game. Now all the expansions are required to be able to play the next one.

First I liked Dervish to a degree but it was not the be all end all profession people make it out to be. Paragon the other profession in Nightfall was basically a one trick pony although I had 24 titles on my paragon. Both classes were fun for what they could do.

The point I am trying to make is they were Guild wars exclusive to Nightfall a place where they shined. But Dervish as a Holy warrior failed in comparison to a 600 monk. Although they should of been better since their skills were all holy damage. Let Guild wars have their professions and Guildwars2 have theirs.

We’ll likely never see new weapons introduced, nor will you see “Land Spears”.

In the new lore there will not be spears any more Palawa Joko outlawed them for humans to have in Elona so they made them into daggers and the new Spellbreaker was born.

I am not sure if I like dagger storm as much now because they halved the time but at least the damage is doubled seems like a waste to wait the rest of 90 seconds would like them to bring it down to 60 second recharge instead similar to what they did with entangle for ranger.

Distracting Dagger is nice now no more time limit on when all three should be thrown. In fact they regenerate and animate around the fore arm great for distracting bosses. Throw in the pistol interrupt and bosses don’t stand a chance.

The new signet trait in critical strikes

I wanted to make this thread as a reply for another thread RIP signets and Critical Strikes
I just wanted it to be seen easier.

You like myself looked at the wiki and saw that now things are happening with that trait in critical strikes where things happen when you kill an enemy, but like me you did not realize what is happening.

That trait gives signets a Second passive trait and that trait happens when you kill something except ambient creatures I tried that lol. Making signets really worth it when you use them. Signet of Malice will still heal you per hit like always, but now it heals you for about 500 more on a kill. The other signets have their own abilities too.

So that trait is actually great for you if you are a thief/daredevil/deadeye

Balth is not Balth but really Abaddon who is trying to get his power back assuming he wasn’t just allegedly “destroyed”.

I agree with you 90% on that theory but I believe that it is Balthazar in a weakened state. When Kormir took over for Abaddon she said his memories and everything was there, but he was gone. As a god you exist in another plane and can exist without existing in the physical form. I think Anet gave us a huge hint in the new Abaddon glider. Look at what he’s doing its controlling the player with its magic to fly. Also If you look at the left cheek of Balthazar there is a rectangle red glow on it. Looks kinda like one of Abaddon’s eyes. Most may look at it as fire but the fire on him is all around with no definition to it

Also in GW1 nightfall is where he was stopped. So he may need to go there to be released from Balthazar and have his physical form. Kind of like shiro did.

Lol Vanilla game that is so silly in a game. Why do people keep worrying about that small time in this game. What ever you do in this game will keep changing through time. That is how this game works which is great. How long was the so called vanilla game. What do people who worry so much about the vanilla game want? No changes? no progress? no new areas? no new ways to explore?

May as well never play past vanilla game ever grow up and learn to adjust to things as they come. Change is one thing most of us like about this game so stop complaining about it and either accept it or just leave, since you can’t seem to accept the changes as they come.

Guild wars 2 is not going anywhere. Have fun with ur guild at their pace even if u go back to help them. That is what a guild of friends does for each other just make sure that if they are a bit slower on catching up they cannot be invited to somethings here and there.

The goal is to help and play together make sure everyone knows it in the guild. That is if they want to most will not all but most

I was on my thief I have always thought midnight ice was the best black dye. A very deep black to it on leather and cloth materials. Better than black and abyss which come out a dark grey not a deep black. Now on metal there is a gun metal blue to it which is also cool.

I just took a look at a very expensive gloss black dye in the trading post. Gloss black is 380g I compared that to midnight ice and guess what they are the same color. a nice deep black with a gunmetal blue for metal armor. I was hoping a deep black for all of the armor types not the same as an already established color(which isn’t even considered black)

It does not seem like anyone is paying attention to what has happened. The prices for the game has changed. The base game with expansion/s is now $30, the Deluxe is now $55 and the Ultimate is now $80 ( and that includes the $50 worth of gems)

Those prices are not temporary just so everyone knows and its a fair price for everyone new or old that has or wants to get the game. Console gamers will pay $60 each for every new version of a game they like that comes out, and we are not that much different from each other wanting new things to do. So what is the difference here? We just have a game that continues without having to constantly buy it. Hence the living story content that is free for those who just log in at the time, and if your new it is not.
If you do not log in, or just get the game you have to purchase those episodes so now who is getting a better deal? Really depends on perspective and if you even like doing things like that.

The Op is saying that the a lot of the good stuff is in the gem store. Yes quite a bit is in there. But unlike similar systems where you HAVE TO use cash you have an option to use in game gold for all the items you want. You can even send gifts to other people if you want.

So my advice is if you want something from the gem store do a combination of both every once in a while spend $10 on gems, and use gold to enhance that by buying gems with that.

Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Chyanne Waters.8719

Chyanne Waters.8719

If the OP would do some research of Arena net he/she would find out that gear progression is hated by them. It’s the typical MMO design. Make a game, set max level, grind to get to that level, get gear to do the best stuff in the game (because your skills suck, and you need that gear to make you able to do the content), Then you get an expansion raise the level 5 or 10 levels. Grind those levels get new gear to let you do the best content again.

The progression in GW2 is using the best armor u can get Ascended or Legendary Although Exotic works for most things anyway but lets say its Ascended for now.
Masteries and Elite specializations are your gear progression they give you different abilities that were never available before.

Not only in the first part of the expansion, but constantly added content like the living story. In Lake Doric the mastery had to do with your downed state. giving you the ability to do damage to any foe in the area you use it in and interrupting them at the same time. In the newest story line you have the ability to use oakheart essence. That lets you move around like a spider web slinging person to get to places, even while gliding. Those are just examples of what GW2 gear progression is. It is your skill not gear that makes the difference.

All gear progression will do is make GW2 another WoW clone and Anet does not want that ever

New expansion pack soon?

Alga.6498
Another weird thing I was checking back in GW1 expansion packs, they were released in quite short term.
Take a look here:
- Guild Wars: Prophecies ~ April 28, 2005
- Guild Wars: Factions ~ April 28, 2006
- Guild Wars: Nightfall~ October 27, 2006
- Guild Wars: Utopia ~ April 2007, (Cancelled )

Wrong the dates are right what you are calling them is wrong, because each of those were completely separate games in themselves. You could put them together in any way you wanted or keep them apart and still be able to play. Expansions work like this you have a game and new content (expansion) is created for that game you have to have that game to use it. Now a campaign expanded Guildwars if you wanted, but you did not have to combine them. The only true expansion for Guildwars was Eye of the north. That you had to have one of the games or a combo of them to play EOTN.

I have a long list of QoL’s but honestly, these are my top 3 ! See I’m not greedy.
This one is a deal breaker
PVE Build templates: This has been a community request since 2012, it should be a top priority if you really hope to sell X-pack 2 to anyone.

Yes PVE Build templates would be great. I would rather have something else for now though. Most professions have switchable weapons so I would like the traits to follow those weapons. Example have a Greatsword Set your traits up for that. When you change to a Longbow Your traits automatically set for the longbow from the switch over. This way you always have the best traits for what you are using. This is done with the weapon swap key.

Now those with 1 weapon only they would have the ability to set up for example an elementalist uses its elements as a second weapon. So It would have the ability to set its traits up for those so when things switch around they have the best build for that element. This is done with the element keys.

And lets not forget Engineer they use things like gadgets, kits, etc. If you set up a build with kits all the kits when they change in use uses the best traits for those same with turrets and gizmo’s. And this is done with the set up that is being used

All the traits are set up by the players kinda like when you go into the water the skills change. Although I cannot understand why shadow refuge and smoke screen don’t work underwater for thief, but hide in shadows does kinda makes no sense.

Anet have never said it but I suspect part of the reason they decided to make GW2 was that system proved to be unworkable – they couldn’t keep up with making new campaigns quickly enough to get the income they needed to keep making them. That plus the new ideas that had entered the industry since they started and the mechanics they wanted to do which didn’t work with the GW1 engine/map design (like dynamic events) meant the logical thing to do was to make a new game.

Actually in 2007 is when they Did announce the reasons why GW2 was going to be made. I cannot find a link to the magazine article in PC Gamer . In that article they said they were having an idea session on what the new campaign would have. The name was already set it was to be called Utopia. Utopia was a game based on the Central and South American Cultures. Anyway in this session they began talking about what they wanted to add. After several Ideas across the board they realized the new game could not use the same game engine as Guildwars.

Some of the ideas were of course Jumping , Dynamic events, and a new combat system with dodging. Open world which Guildwars does not have was also something new the old system could not handle.

After that article Anet got to work they had quite a bit to do. Remember Guildwars 2 is only an idea and announced to the world at this time. Most other games are announced when they are already partially developed, not as an idea.
They had to scrap Utopia, but they kepts some things about it Like some of the architecture used in GW2. They also used ideas like the Chronomancer later in the game.

They also had to create a doorway in Guildwars to link it to Guildwars 2 which is the Hall of Monuments in a brand new expansion called Guild Wars Eye of the North. GWEN was Guildwars only expansion. All others were linkable full separate games called Campaigns. They also had to work on the brand new Guildwars 2 game itself.
All this was completed within 5 years from the ideas at that table. Which I believe is pretty quick.

I am not goin to quote the OP on anything, but it seems the way the OP plays is always with people. There is nothing wrong with that. If the OP wants more of a challenge he/she should do some things solo. If you can solo some champions or even good veterans or elite’s maybe the OP can see more of a challenge in playing. I personally do most content on my own. No I cannot kill champs, but do challenge myself in area’s like dragonstand against multiple foes as a thief/daredevil.

Also a great challenge is becoming good at higher levels of Fractals. Yes dungeons can be challenging at least the first couple times you do them. What makes them even more challenging is a bad or near bad team, and sometimes that is more fun than one that makes it too easy lol.

I agree if things are too easy it ends up being boring. You yourself can change that by limiting how many people you do things with where you can. Some things its a given there will be quite a few people to help, and that is great for the game. There are some bosses that do not need that or even good mobs to kill that takes skill and fewer people.

It also looks like you may not have HoT get it you will be saying omg this is too hard at first. After that it will remain hard to get around, but you will be a better player because of it.

A game that is too hard irritates most people and they quit. A game that is too easy irritates the others and they quit. It’s a balance that can be hard to hit to keep most of each type.

All these arguments should I get HoT or not. All the negative reasons why someone should not get HoT. What’s funny is if you want to continue to progress to the next expansion. You will either get HoT before, or after the next

You were having fun because you found it easy to do from what I see in your explanation. Then things changed that you were not used too them. The foes are harder, the terrain is not what you are used too, and you die faster than before. Its very frustrating. That is just the beginning in places like bloodstone fen and beyond you can get shot out of the sky. On the other hand you can earn and purchase with the currency there abilities to attack foes from the air as you are gliding. Outside the area you cannot use those skills at least for now. You can however in the HoT maps get shot down but no where as often.

The point I am trying to make is GW2 is not a typical MMO this does two things it either upsets people, or excites them. You saw that GW2 was different you learned It and then had fun with it. Now all you have to do is continue that with HoT its even different from the core game. and even new areas are different from HoT itself. They all have the similarities to each other also, just like GW2 is different from other MMO’s in how its played. Open your mind and explore learn and have fun with those differences in this game. Or you can play the same old way in another MMO there are quite a few out there for you.

To the OP I think you went a bit overboard on this of course it screwed things up for you and others you all planned for this and unless you are in the situation they are in you really have no right to complain about it.
It was not Anets fault they lost power due to the storm. Now maybe because of it they may invest into a generator. Did you think the reason they did not tell us for half a day was because they couldn’t, the computers and servers were down. What would you really do in that situation? Take the time to get the servers up, or try to contact the players? Myself get the game stuff goin again the faster you do that the faster you can launch. Then after the assessment is made and things are getting back to normal tell the Anet community what happened.

4k when?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chyanne Waters.8719

Chyanne Waters.8719

As for this old discussion…

A-Net uses an old engine which was used for gw1, which was based upon an old (directX 7 FPS Engine (Unreal (2?) engine).
They modified the engine so far they were using only a couple of basic components ad dthey now had it running and were eventually allowed to use without paying COMMISION.

Then gw1 was released 3 games and 1 expansion on the 3 base games were supplied, without monthly fees.

Eventually GW2 was developed on a slightly modified version of the original gw1 engine. Now running Direct X 9.0c

This engine is property of ArenaNet. as as such it doesn’t cost them much to have you play on it.

IF Arenanet would buy the latest version of the unreal engine and do the project to get it running like this present engine they still own the owners of the engine 25% of all REVENUE made from this game, that’s 25% less updates, 25% less personell and 25% less servers. OR A MONTHLY FEE.

Even then all code needs to be rewritten, and the project would take years. I doubt gw2 as a game could afford the investments. also after these investments it would not be a new game. it would be the sma game just with a litlle more fluent gameplay, IF it works out.

Yes it sounds easy, but can this game afford no content updates for 2 years while the code is made to get this game refreshed? After 6 months of coding for HoT this game felt dead. I doubt this game would survive a DX12/ multi CPU update…

It will take time to rewrite the game (which is likely heavily spaghetti-ed due to 2 big code updates to the engine and the fact the base engine is so old.)
It will take resources (cash/manpower)
It will take commision (loss of revenue for the game)
It will change the minimum requirements of the game (even though most GPU’s should work with DX11 or 12 and most PC’s have 4 or more cores or threads nowadays)
Why? \\to make a 4+ year old game look a little more fluent, on high end systems only.
This game works on 4K screens (though the UI gets really small) it works on lower end laptops (i3’s and i5’s) without real problems except maybe for the fact it was made for 5 vs 5…

That is completely FALSE

The reason Anet made Guildwars2 was because the old Guildwars engine could not do what they needed. For example jumping the old engine characters could not jump. The new one they can. There are other things that the old engine could not do either that was just one example.

Anet uses the Havok engine for GW2 so they have a lot of freedom in how the game is designed. The Havok engine is not designed by Anet but the game and artwork is

Now yes GW2 can run in 4k as long as your monitor can handle it, or you have a video card that can make your monitor run in 4k. 4k is not some kind of gaming mode its a monitor or television mode. I have an XFX RX470 4 GB video card that can use virtual super resolution on any 1080p monitor or tv to bring it to 4k, or anything in-between.
I have used it on GW2 myself and no the window does not go really small you still get a full window screen every thing is smaller putting more of everything you can see in the scenes. It also works in full screen mode gives you those choices in the game and yes everything is more vivid and sharp in 4k. The UI does get smaller that is normal every time the resolution is higher. For example an 800×600 UI is way bigger than 1080p is. So the smaller UI should be expected.

What Can GW Offer Me?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Chyanne Waters.8719

Chyanne Waters.8719

Let’s compare a couple of things between WoW and GW2. In WoW the goal is to go through the game and level your character/s to get gear to make them better. In GW2 the goal is to use your skills and abilities to get better. Yes GW2 has a high gear type called ascended which is only about 5% better than exotic. 5% does make a difference though, but unlike WoW gear it will never get any better in the future expansions.

Now the other major difference is low level areas. In WoW they only matter enough to get you past them. In GW2 they constantly matter for some reason or another, because even though you are a level 80 you can still get killed. They also like to add things to any area to keep them all playable no matter what. The reason for this is the level of the area is the level you will be.

One other thing is fighting in GW2 you can team or squad up with others and use skills with one another to enhance the damage. Example an ele puts up a ring of fire and a ranger shoots through that ring instant fire arrows now you have a piercing and fire damage to your foe. there are more like that though. In GW2 you have to disregard your old way of fighting (it can be frustrating) from what WoW is. As long as you have the attitude of learning a new way you will be good. If all you think of is omg the fighting in WoW was better, then maybe this game is not for you. You have to throw away at least in GW2 the traditional MMO design.

Another post mentioned the wardrobe there is a catch to that you need transmutation charges to change the look of your armor. You get 3 free every 28 days you log in. If you need more they are for sale in the gem store. The Gemstore lets you trade in game gold for gems and gems for gold. All gemstore purchases are made with gems. All trading post purchases are made with in game gold.

And Mess up the reason people play? They have to have some things to keep you busy jeeze. I suppose next you want Legendaries for free without any effort. Or just show up in a raid area and Legendary Armor fills your inventory.

You do realize they do stuff for a reason. They do not think should we do stuff to irritate people, sure why not? An MMO in any form is about keeping people busy. Even if its some things they do not really want to do. It is what interests them to a point, so they tend to do the stuff that they do not like sometimes to obtain the goal they do like.

Might be because it’s very late, but I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say. I guess you’re trying to say there should be an option to sell bank tab capacity expanders (i.e. mats inside the item storage can be stacked up to 500/750/…/2000) but that would most likely be a whole lot of hassle as both storages work differently I assume.

If you can stack 250 items in the regular bank tabs you can stack more just like the material storage. Yes bank tab expanders is what I was talking about. That’s what increases to the bank tabs like the material storage means.

To the OP if you would like to just use cash to get what you want in the GEM store its all good. But most love the fact that they can get what they want by just playing the game and making gold to buy things from the Gem Store.

Anet said they wanted to make it so if you do not play a lot and would like to use real money to get things or in game gold then that is good. But if you want to play the game and earn gold to buy gems then that is good too.

My question is why would anyone want what you are talking about? Stop trying to make this your old game.

How about selling increases to the regular bank tabs like the material storage that way people will not need to worry about bank space so much. There are some items like vision crystals that should be in materials. But if things stack and the amount can be increased in the bank side of it then do that instead.

Ok the armor part it will say you have elite armors of a certain kind you must get the entire set be in it and then you can display it. Now that will include Kurzick and Luxon armor too, but I think you may only need one of those. It also includes Obsidian Armor.

Mini pets another example you need certain levels of those at least one and a total of 20 it will tell you what you need. Pets and Hero’s now those will need their elite armor sets to display. Also you must capture the Black Moa and Black widow. The rainbow Phoenix does not count as the phoenix you need it must be a canthan one you capture that one after defeating shiro. Do you like elite missions if you do then you can put them in the hall along with titles FOW UW Urgoz The Deep Doa are all part of that.

Dungeons do not count for that part unless you are trying to get titles from the point system in it. Now getting the title for Luxon or Kurzick only level 4 is required it also gets you a monument to place. You can AB for it or you can vanquish or go on speed clears it does take time to get to Rank 12 though. All titles take time and you will need some to finish the hall to 50/50 just not all. Oh yea forgot about weapons try to get at least one full set of your favorite weapon type that go into the hall

The reason I know this is I do have 3 Gwamm’s but 4 full HOM’s. I am also kinda disappointed in what I received in GW2 for doing all that, and the fact if you pvp now you can get anything I worked for that I was disappointed with.
But it does have a really cool part when you make it 50/50 a light shines through the hole on the roof directly onto the statue on the wall.

I’d love a shortbow specialization for mesmer, because dreamer would suit my character so well! Will probably never happen, but god how awesome it would’ve been!!!

Actually over time it will. eventually all professions will have use of all weapons because of elite specs.

All my characters in Guildwars have cat ears, Not exactly sure how they would be able to glitter a dye though. I wanna be able to dye weapons, I want the hair to show under hats. Actually the new Bloodstone Circlet showed me a way they could do that just use a different approach to how its put on the head. then fill in the back and top leaving the hair exposed. I know my characters would look killer with their hair sticking out from under the pirate hat.

Well the perfect dungeon for running past mobs was Shards of Orr again shadowform played a key role in that dungeon. Also took people about 7 minutes to complete.

Playable Dwarves needed for balance

The Dwarves in Guildwars were turned to stone by a spell to fight a champion for Primordus called the Great Destroyer. Now the Great Dwarf and Great Destroyer had Met in the Past. The Dwarves had told stories about it for years. When the Great Destroyer was too much of a threat the Dwarves used the Power of the Great Dwarf and were turned to stone. It also changed their mind set all they wanted to do was kill destroyers nothing else mattered to them. That is why Ogden Stonehealer did not participate in the ritual. That did not matter though eventually he turned to stone too. He did however keep his mind. Once they are turned they can never go back and if they fall apart they are literally the living dead, of course without the attacking people for flesh. Also I never saw any Female Dwarves in Guildwars.

Anet does not seem to want what all the other MMO’s have they want to be DIFFERENT. This is how the Asurans were created not to replace anything, but to not be like anything anyone else has. Well with exception of Yoda lol. Same with the Sylvari They have done Tree like people before, but the Sylvari have their own style to them. Everyone seems to compare them with dark or wood elves. The beauty of the Sylvari is the ability to incorporate their skin color to their armor color and make some nice contrasting color combos on them.

Also I know instead of Dwarves how about OOOMMPA LOOOMMPA? those would be perfect. And they have never been done before in an MMO perfect time to implement them.

One thing I would like to say however. I did like the dungeon system better in GW1. That is you go in and clear out rooms one by one. None of this nancy garbage you do here “run past the mobs” “cheat this way” for faster clears! Perhaps anet could add a few more like this too!

I do not know what Guildwars you were playing, but that is far from what happens in dungeons. They were actually worse on people running them and going past mobs than Guildwars2. I know I used to run CoF in Guildwars. We used to speed clear Tomb of the Primeval Kings With a Monk a Ranger puller (sometimes two) A Blood is Power Necro an Mm Necro and two more support splinter weapon Rangers. And Tombs was the only place you actually had to clear an area out before you moved on to the next level.

Also FoW , UW, Tombs, Urgoz, DOA, and the Deep were not dungeons. They are Elite Missions Some people could run for example a get to the end reward FoW in about 7-8 minutes

Why Making SPVP P2W?

in PvP

Chyanne Waters.8719

Wow looking over these threads is crazy is GW2 a pay to win game? No its not. Is it a buy to win game in a way yes, because its a buy to play game.

When you buy an MMO you buy it because you think its cool, and will have a lot of fun with it over time. The first version of this is called the Vanilla version. In a subscription MMO you pay for the game then pay each month for access to it. In that subscription game they come out with an expansion again you have to pay for the expansion and pay each month. Now everything goes up at least five levels, but only for the people that bought the expansion. They get better armor, stats, etc. This includes all areas of the game pvp is no exception. Expecting a player with the original game that did not buy the expansion to be given the five extra levels and the same armor stats as the people that bought the expansion is just crazy. They made the expansion to change the game, not to keep it the same flavor.

Now GW2 compared to other games is actually unique in its structure it is a Buy to Play game. Kind of like a free to play, but all you have to do is buy the game to access all it has to offer. Now like other MMO’s it makes expansions that change the game. All they ask for is if you want to upgrade your game with new options is to buy the expansion then you can still play for free. No sub fees needed.

Now about the people who reject HoT and stick with the vanilla game only, then compare it to the Free to Play people. That is YOUR fault you have not purchased the expansion not the games. The free to play people have restrictions you do not have and will never have. In PVP they are probably equal to your abilities, but are they? You have played more and understand things better.

HoT is not going away it was a base structure for the future of this game. It has nothing to do with how much area on a map we get. What it did was change the game by including things like Mastery’s (ok ok I hate how we have to get some of the mastery points lol) Now those are pve specific of course. Then the Elite Specializations that is only ground floor right now. Eventually all professions will have many choices in them, but that comes at a price.

The ones who get screwed over are the loyal players that when they buy the expansion they had already bought all the other ones. That’s ok though cause we love the game. When a new player or even old player without some of the expansion decides to buy the second or third expansion they get all of them for a lot less. They are combining it all into one price.

Now the Pay to win would mean these people already have any version of the game and they offer a buff in the form of a trinket (for example) that makes your character lets say 10 times stronger than anyone else. This trinket can be used in pve wvw and pvp. This trinket is lets say $50 and you cannot buy it with Gems only cash, but its offered to everyone who wants to buy it. You can buy it even if you do not have HoT. Even free to play people have access to it. When you play against those people they wipe you and everyone else out easily until they come across another that bought that trinket. The stronger ones will have HoT though. That is Pay to Win not what GW2 is.

On the buy to win idea of course if you buy the expansion you will have an advantage that’s what expansions do. Now if you are awesome you can take a vanilla character and make a build that could destroy most players HoT or not.

Let me put it this way Destiny’s Edge was useless always dying constantly but they tried.
do not know how much damage they did just knew they died a lot.

Now Dragons Watch may not do much damage it may be equal or less than Destiny’s Edge again I don’t Know. One thing that sets them apart is Dragons Watch does not die they keep fighting on to let you do the damage to the main monsters. Dragons Watch are suppose to support you not do your damage for you.

On top of that Dragons Watch Characters will also rez you. I would rather have them taking some of the monsters keeping them busy while I whittle them down to nothing than worry about how much dps they have.

Actually what it looks like you are asking is do you need living world 2 to continue Living World 3. The answer is no they make it so its assumed that you have already done it. They will do that with all LW seasons. So even though u may skip over stuff or not there are no worries.

Now I would suggest if you have not done the first episode of LW3 then yes you may need that done before the second episode comes. Ya get to buy gliding attack skills also you will want your gliding maxed out so may wanna work on that part too especially for the second episode it seems. But the first episode it will help too.

Hope that helps ya some.

GW2 Deluxe Upgrade Gemstore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chyanne Waters.8719

The GW2 Deluxe upgrade in the gem store is very confusing for people. Quite a few people I have talked to about it think its HoT. They are saving gold to buy gems to get it. I try to explain its not, but they don’t seem to listen.

There are two suggestions I have for that upgrade since it is so old and useless now. First just remove it, or second make it deluxe upgrade for HoT and any expansion in the future. Add the newest upgrade items and remove the old ones (or keep them all) 2000 gems is quite expensive for what you get.

Think about it you pay $75 for the game with the deluxe upgrade when you buy the game at mid level price. You pay $60 when you buy the base game. Yes you can use in game gold to buy the gems, but I am going to use Real Money for my purpose.

So you pay $60 for the base game then have to shell out another $25 for the deluxe upgrade. Now you spent $85 instead of $75 and you did not get any more stuff. Oh wait you do with the $75 game you also get a character slot, you don’t with the gemstore deluxe upgrade. Making the $75 game $65 after taking out the character slot

All in all for only $25 more than the $75, you get everything the $75 one has plus $50 in gems to use. plus a character slot that is another $10 off the price making the price even less though you put a bit more up front you get it back making the total price $40 unless more is added for veterans of the game, then it could be less than $40

Now your probably thinking you cant count the gems because I don’t buy gems. Well maybe you don’t, but come on 4000 gems is a nice thing to get for yourself, and you can use them right away if you want, well as soon as you purchase the game lol. Plus you still get more stuff than the $75 game

That is the way I think of it, but I understand most will not.

no gems after deluxe upgrade [resolved]

Chyanne Waters.8719

Anet needs to remove the deluxe version of GW2 out of the gemstore and never bring it back it is very confusing to people exactly what it is. Is it Heart of Thorns no its just an upgrade to the original game. People seem to think it is HoT though. They try to save gems for it, because of that reason.

So Anet either make that an upgrade for the base game and the expansions as it progresses or just remove it.

I have a Phenom 2 1100T Black edition AMD. MSI motherboard with Fx abilities. A 2 gig Nvidia GTX 650 16 gig 1800 corsair Ram. a very similar computer that the OP has.

Now compared to an intel set up my FPS is kind of low usually around 30 or so, but I never lag all the way down to about 16 fps. To help raise those you can do a few things to help. AMD processors work a bit different than Intel they use hyper transport technologies. The computer sends packets of information around each part. just like the internet does to communicate to your computer. So I do not know how Fps can be measured the same.
Anyway try these settings in your game instead of choosing full low settings

animation high Reflections terrain and sky
antialiasing none textures high
environment high Render sampling Native
LOD distance high Shadows Shaders high
Post processing high or low depending on what u want
Now here is the kicker
Character model limit this lets you see other people farther away put that on lowest that way you only see names until they get closer
character model quality depends on whether you want to see a decent other player design lol.
Uncheck Best texture filtering and if it helps fps for you uncheck others as needed but that should get your fps up some without sacrificing graphics for you

My computer does a great job being over 6 years old yes I know I need to upgrade sometime soon lol but no rush.

I hope this helps you get set up a bit better.

Vova.2640 As long as free users can get anything that paying users can get it is not pay to win at the slightest…

Well they cannot get anything the people who bought the game can get. Free to play is restricted on things. It is just a long trial version. Wanna buy the game fine wanna keep playin the game without buying it fine too. But what happens if someone buys the game. Hmmm? spend $50 -$100 for a game then play it all you want for free without restrictions. Get all the expansions included the more you pay the more gifts you can get. Like 4000 gems if you buy the $100 version. which cuts the price in half (more than likely you would of spent money on those gems anyway over time) this gives a good reason.

Anyway back to the subject of Pay to Win. The OP is right GW2 is pay to win We pay for the game and we Win!!!!!! We pay for gemstore items we like or think is cool or useful We Win!!!!!!!! Also buying gems then turning that into gold is not pay to win its business. Look at the exchange rate you would have to be either really rich or really stupid to over use that system.

Are people who want certain gem store items who use their in game gold to buy gems pay to win? Some people do pay for conveniences but that is not pay to win. Example Royal passes is a convenience item.

Go play that perfect globe (not the real name just replace globe with a similar word if you cant figure it out) mmo for a while you can download and play for free. But there is a catch that perfect game is a pay to win monster underneath the veil of being free. Play those king saga games you can keep playin those for free, but eventually you will buy help for them.

I never understood why people would ever say GW or GW2 are pay to play in any way. They are Buy to play games free to play without restrictions if you purchase the game for a reasonable price. Ok same price as a normal console Box, or console SP game would be. Oh and they charge you to connect to their network lol talk about a rip off.

One last thing actually a question of sorts WHAT DO YOU WIN IN AN MMO ANYWAY?

Why is everyone so worried about GW2 being at only 15 Billion Won? I think its great and I am sure that Nc Soft would agree with me. One dollar is equal to a little over 1000 Won. In one quarter of a year GW2 raked in profits alone over 13 million dollars (American) That is not small chump change that’s A lot of money for only a quarter year.

So stop worrying GW2 is not designed to bring in a sub fee so it will always be lower than other games. The ability to buy gems with in game gold also has an affect. Anet as long as they hover around or higher than the 15 billion Won will be able to expand GW2 easily.

And yet, despite the labour and expenditure aside, there is home hobbyists who have done it for free. So it seems nothing is really “too big or expensive.” for someone that just wants to see it get done.

You’re equating hobby work with a paid job. When you’re at work you need to prioritize. Do you want that Texture artist to be working on new content for the next LS3/raid/etc or porting over and updating GW1 textures. Do you want the modeller to be creating new assets or fixing clipping issues with ported over armor?

When these guys are costing you $40-70k a year and freelancers may cost more per hour or per item, as well as a single item possibly requiring input from more than one person, then yes, both time and money are an issue.

I’m sure many of the developers and artists would love to add extra stuff and polish to the game, but at the end of the day doing so in their own time doesn’t pay the bills.

You’re basically asking the equivalent of a auto mechanic to fix your car for free because you heard of a guy who does it as a hobby and he fixed your friends car for free.

And they make a game that is buy to play and relies on Gem store sales and box sales to stay alive and relevant. They add new content to this game case in point the Living world series. They add things in that if you did not look for it you would not ever see it. If I paid people that much I would expect them to do what they get paid for. A mechanic works by the hour. The shop charges lets say $100 an hour for labor. Do you think the mechanic is making $100 an hour no they are maybe making $25-$30 an hour. the rest goes to the shop. Then on top of that most shops make you buy your parts through them so they can upcharge them by 200-300% then say that’s how we make money and keep the place open. What a bunch of you know what.

I am not expecting the game to instantly put Guildwars armor, districts, or weapon dying into the game. This is a suggestion that I would love to have happen. I no longer play Guildwars, but those are things that would be cool to see in this game.
Anet is not stealing from another game they would only be using items from the history of Guildwars. They have done it so far with the krytan armor, the monks outfit etc. Why not extend that to more.

You’re just not supposed to try to facetank them. They’re easy enough to avoid and get around if you want to. I do it all the time…on every profession.

Your right but there is a profession that can facetank them and you will not believe which one can. Surprisingly my daredevil can do that, but have to make a few adjustments to the build and skills used to do it though. My ele can do it also but a bit slower both can take on a vet and the two hatchlings my daredevil can take on two vets if done right. I know they are not important but learning some skills for that may help in other fights also. I am now trying other professions Mesmer failed at facetanking so did warrior.

Of course I haven’t tried running around for mesmer and warrior yet, but they do have a huge range which is hard to avoid lol.

That is a bunch of you know what, about how hard it would be especially on the armor the design is already there just a few tweaks and its ready for GW2. The dye channels for Weapons is an easy fix also make it so you can only dye it one color at a time, nothing fancy. I say its easy because I believe in the talent they have not that doing it is the easiest to accomplish.

And stop making excuses for them what we ask for is not impossible to do in this game. That’s why we have things like Super Adventure box, Living world etc. I understand that armor takes time, but if the template is there should not be a problem adjusting to GW2 design. In fact they should welcome that idea more than half the work is done.

Also I do not live on the forums like you do. I see something that interests me and I read it about half have your name in it somewhere. So I would not always see other threads asking about them, since I usually only look at the first page or two of each forum.
