I like the WvW, everything else annoys me after awhile. I had way more fun before dopamine was a factor, before launch, during beta weekends when I was running around taking screenshots and going, ‘oooo, pretty!’ every five seconds. When progression entered the picture I started getting bored of PVE real quick.
Of course, with the exception of beta weekend 3 leveling speed, I found leveling way too slow anyway, even during the lower, faster levels. As soon as it mattered as far as character progression (launch day), it went from meh to tedious.

Grace period on Dc would = a lot more Dc’s if you know what I mean. But yeah, I have dc’d after several hour queues before. It’s a huge disappointment.
If you mean people would exploit it, they could always permaban the exploiters so the rest of us can have nice things for once.
~ArenaNet
Yep, my Teamspeak didn’t DC at all tonight. And other MMOs don’t either. I’m getting very fed up here. Hey support, how about some support?
~ArenaNet
Happens to me, too. Way more than once a day, though, and when it starts it can go on awhile. I never know what triggers it or what makes it stop. It’s not on my end, though, other MMOs run fine.
~ArenaNet
Seeing as I got DC’d out of Eternal about a minute after reset and now won’t get back in again tonight, maybe we should encourage them to take baby steps first.
Server stability would be nice, or how about a grace period on DCing out of WvW?
~ArenaNet
Update: Problem NOT fixed. I started crashing tonight around the time the server really took a heavy load, got into WvW before reset for a bit and managed to play an hour, then right after reset, got into Eternal Battlegrounds, ran half the map, and crashed.
Of course now I’m in the Eternal Queue. Fix this, Anet, or at least make it so we can get back into WvW after a DC, please. I’m seriously losing patience.
~ArenaNet
I played tonight for about six hours after the reinstall with no problems as well. If it gives me issues again tomorrow I’ll post here, otherwise, problem seems to be solved!

Meldea, I’ll be sure to let you all know if it works. Since my download speed is horribly slow (even though we have 15mbs, this game is downloading at less than 1mbs) it will be awhile.
Seraki, I’m on Charter, and as far as I know they don’t disrupt MMO usage. Other MMOs work fine on my computer anyway. It’s just this one. Even the updater was disconnecting constantly earlier today. It’s very strange. Hopefully redownloading will fix it, though.

AGAIN, THE ONLY WAY THEY WILL EVER GO AWAY IS IF PEOPLE STOP BUYING THE GOLD FROM THEM!
And no it was not Yak’s bend…it was something with Wood in the name.
Not the only way,
a list of IP locations, a strike team equipped with castration tools and diplomatic immunity is a sure fire way to stop it.
I’m volunteering for this mission! But can we just execute them instead? Screaming disturbs my delicate sensibilities.
~ArenaNet
I don’t see how this will stop botters. If they own (or have currently stolen) 10 accounts, what stops them from switching them all out to farm without diminishing returns?
Meanwhile, the difficulty of earning gold and gear for regular players is more likely to increase the demand for what those botters are selling.
I just don’t understand what they’re thinking. If they want the botters gone, why don’t they hire more people to go out looking for them and permaban them when they find them? Or hey, this is the age of computers. It is, in fact, a computer game. How hard is it to code bot detection?
Actually, I admit, I don’t know how hard it is, but at least some of these bots are so obvious players have vids of them all over Youtube, so…

It’s not too late for guilds to coordinate with off-peak guilds and merge. Yeah, I know, losing your guild stuff sucks when you transfer, but isn’t it worth it to have a shot at the top?
~ArenaNet
If any server is winning by a good bit, then those who are losing and have queues would greatly appreciate it if you would camp puzzles as well as all other PVE hotspots until those wasting precious space in WvW get frustrated and leave.
Thank you!

I’m experiencing constant disconnects some days, other days I have little to no problem. When I’m disconnecting I’m also lagging, I’m trying to use abilities and can’t, that sort of thing. This does not happen when I play other games.
So I’m redownloading the client (I had been using the beta one) after deleting every GW2 file I could find.
It’s going at a horribly slow rate of less than 1mb per second for some reason, so while I’m doing that, time to ask: Is there anything else I can do to prevent these disconnects? Oh, and for some reason it is randomly disconnecting now as it downloads. So even the updater and my computer are not getting along.
I reset my router, I cleaned all the caches of my browsers just in case, I changed my CCC as someone recommended in another thread, but no luck. It’s not my hardware, it’s all updated and this wasn’t happening before a week or so ago.
I was wondering if I need to unblock another port or something.

It is an exploit to use something broken in the game to gain an advantage. We all know it’s not some clever design to help people become invisible, after all!

This would be nice. I crashed several times the other day and was constantly back in queue because of it.

Please tell me you reported the people taking the supply and logging. In fact, that’s the kind of thing that should be recorded and put up on Youtube, even if you won’t be allowed to post the link on this, the official forum, Guild Wars Guru will let you.
Please get proof, record, report, post it! This is the kind of garbage that needs permabans pronto.
Also agree with you about puzzle people. Can’t stand them.

I think the bottom line is that if you want to disperse the zerg, you need to use siege on the door (arrow carts are best).
After you’ve broken them up a bit, then player-AE will work better. Notably, some of the guardian AE retaliation has a really small radius on it so without 40 people clumped together on a door, it’s going to be harder to give so much retaliation to so many people, so player AE won’t get punished so badly.
The change to engineer mine kits is a big deal too. That was probably the best method in the game for providing lasting retaliation to a lot of people.
.
Bottom line, though:
If you’ve never used an arrow cart, get one.
If you used one in the past and were disappointed with how easily it died, try it again.I predict that within 5 days, arrow carts will be the new #1 complaint on the forum, because a lot of mindless zergs are going to die over the next few days. And rightfully so. 3 people on arrow carts will make you change tactics.
I think you’re right. Not sure siege really needs to be even more important than it is. Realistic? Sure. Fun? Maybe not.

I’d love it if that happened, but it’s probably exploitable six ways from Sunday. I’m hoping when and if I ever stick to a profession long enough to make level 80 or at least the 60s that the badges will drop more frequently. I think I get the most off my Engineer, and for some reason my Mesmer got a bunch, too. I guess people are too happy to kill themselves with their own attacks.
~ArenaNet
I’m actually reluctant to even login at this point. Here is what I’m afraid will happen: After a 30 minute queue or so, I’ll get in somewhere on the map. I’ll see some afkers, read some chat by some puzzle pve players inviting others to join them in their worthless pursuits.
There will be less than ten people heading forone of the nearby supply camps to take/retake it, but either we will fail because the enemy will immediately send 20 to destroy us, or we’ll hold it for all of 3 seconds before they send those 20 out to take it back.
Maybe if I’m really lucky 15 or so people will be on a door somewhere, but it will be defended and fortified, so we won’t take it, they’ll just run us back and forth to the closest supply (which we will have had the good sense to take, but again, not the numbers to keep).
Meanwhile, 20-30 people will be fighting in that center bridge/island thing (that any zerg can easily go around).
Oh, and when I hop in TS, there will be 5-10 absolutely silent players in there with me.

I’m confused about why it’s still available. Maybe they’re waiting until they start 2 week matchups? Which I’m not sure would be better than the 1 week matches anyway.

You HoD people can claim whatever you’d like, but in EB, when your zerg and SBI’s zerg is on either side of our overlook, and we can’t just take one side back because we’re up against two zergs, well actions speak louder.
It’s funny, you never see HoD taking over SBI or SBI pushing into HoD. SBI alone usually gets rolled by JQ. In fact I can’t remember a single push in EB where JQ didn’t have to stop because HoD was too busy taking our towers and keeps. Weather it be an alliance, or the just the simple fact that you both just want to eliminate JQ, it’s sad. Even with HoD’s SM, they’re not that good. They should be able to steam roll through our towers and keeps, considering we have SBI’s zerg to deal with on top of them attacking.
I love how easy it is for you band wagoners from HoD to say that all JQ does is cry when the only reason your server has ANY points is because of Titan Alliance and PRX / SIN running your entire server.
If ET has major wvw guilds like HoD I’m sure they would steamroll SBI because they’re not that great. It could go either way. So let me be clear, it’s not that HoD is good, its that the three guilds that run your zergs are good / organized. SBI doesn’t have anything credible and before you go bashing JQ, remember we’re not that far behind for holding both of your zergs non stop.
There may well be alliances between the two, but it’s not against the rules, and what can we do about it? I’d rather we concentrate on improving our own tactics, which is something we can do something about.
If they are allied it won’t last, eventually everyone will be sick of one or two servers holding the top spot or two, and they’ll end up facing two servers that will ally to take them down.
~ArenaNet
I’m sad there will be less fluidity in the rankings unless people transfer around and more servers get more WvW players and more coverage. I don’t want to fight the same servers week after week or settle into a particular ‘bracket’ and stay there.
On the other hand, I don’t really see what Anet can do about it. Aside from getting rid of those orbs, most solutions I’ve read would really screw over off-peak players.
~ArenaNet
Right now JQ is a strange mess, at least during eastern US morning time. I actually end up in a queue (a fairly short one, but still a queue) and then when I get in, either everyone is afk, off doing pve (I hate you people, by the way, it’s fine to hit a point or kill something on your way to somewhere, but if there is a queue, you should not dedicate more time than that to pve!), or scattered all over the map.
So it’s queue, but no forces, not even a disorganized zerg.
Also, what is it with you guys and bridges? You just love those bridges. Some of the criticism on here from the other two servers is dead on accurate, rude as they’re being about expressing it.
Anyway, I figure it this way. We’re going to drop in the ranking, we might even lose our next matchup and go down more. Hopefully, though, in a few weeks either your average JQ WvW player with learn something, or follow people who know what they’re doing (in voice chat or otherwise), or they’ll get tired of losing and at least the queue will go away.
I’m still learning, too, so when I realize that something we’re doing is a really bad idea, we’re in deep trouble.
Oh well, the best servers have nowhere to go but down, and some servers are unlucky enough to simply not have either enough players or enough coverage to come through no matter how good they are. We, on the other hand, supposedly have the numbers and coverage, so we have things to work for.
~ArenaNet
OP, go do WvW jumping puzzle. In borderlands it’s easy. Usually takes 10-15 min if there are no griefers and it rewards you with 3 blue/green items, 4-5 WvW tokens and 2 random siege blueprints. My elementalist is packin’ insane amount of siege overall and 5 golems so far just from that. So – less QQ more SPACEBAR SPACEBAR (for jumping, you get it?)!
Please don’t do this when your server has a queue!
~ArenaNet
Since guesting can help alleviate PVE crowding, maybe it would be a good idea to merge servers with low WvW populations. And the publicity wouldn’t be too bad if it was explained that way, as strictly a WvW balancing.
~ArenaNet
Horrible idea, will discourage people from belonging to guilds, much less multiple guilds.
Could you elaborate how/why it would discourage any guild membership? The guil can only use the tax funds during WvW, the tax only applies to those in the pvp zones, and if anything it should foster server pride as the person can know they actually contributed to a week long battle instead of just doing a jump puzzle or attacking the giant grub.
While I’ll be glad to donate to a commander fund for my server and will be donating some of my pathetic tiny stash of silver to that cause soon enough, I would not join a guild that forced me to pay a tax.
First, guild taxes are a way for gold farmers to make money, they can just claim it’s for siege, who would ever know what it really went to?
But even if that were preventable by the way a tax system works, I don’t want to be forced to part with my meager savings, nor do I want to set up taxes in my guild. I’ll decide how best to spend my silver, not someone else.
~ArenaNet
We do have a lot of players who hyperfocus on areas they shouldn’t and/or lack direction. Price we pay for not having a few large, ironfisted guilds dictating everything to everyone.
I’m content with it. Although it would be nice if more JQ players tried out voice chat. It won’t kill you, I promise. It didn’t kill me, and I hate voice chat with a passion. Unfortunately, it’s very useful in pvp.
~ArenaNet
I agree, getting disconnected shouldn’t force you back in queue.
Banning low levels from WvW is silly. The PVE is monotonous for some of us, we’d quit the game before we spent 70 levels progressing that way, and SPvP won’t level you. Crafting and gathering is okay, but it’s definitely not something I’ll spend 70 levels doing, either.
~ArenaNet

~ArenaNet
I despise pay to win in my PvP and I still can’t believe Anet did this to us.
Limiting siege isn’t the answer, however. I haven’t bought golems, but I have bought other siege gear, and I certainly never opened my wallet to do it.
The proper thing to do is have a WvW currency that can’t be purchased with real money. But some greedy bean counter somewhere decided that Wallet vs Wallet would make them a lot of money. It’s virtually impossible in a close match to control all the supply, the best you can do is make it inconvenient by forcing enemies to travel a longer distance with it.
~ArenaNet
Here is a little test to see if something rises to the level of true addiction:
If there was a chance your MMO might kill you, would you play anyway? No? You aren’t hardcore enough to be an addict, sorry.
If the only MMO you had access to on a given day was a bad, weak MMO that would probably make you physically ill, would you play it? No? You’re not an addict.
Could you imagine yourself playing MMOs very many hours of the day if you were a billionaire with all the world to see and all the money to see it in style with? No? You’re not addicted. You just don’t have anything else sufficiently fun and cheap to loaf around with.
~ArenaNet
Pretty sure it’s the site’s censor. Instead of filtering out a naughty world with $%^&, it uses ‘kittens’.

So if I run into a keep where nothing is going on, and I jump around on our siege to man it for a few seconds, does it reset the timer?
If so, everyone should take a few seconds to do that when not much else is going on around them.

It was, I was teasing, but when a necro is almost dead and pops whatever that form is called, if he’s near his keep, he’ll probably get away. Which is fine, I love my necro for that, and for being able to get into keeps under attack, but my engi is just too much fun right now.
Death Shroud. Sorry, but if someone mentions the necro having anything OP about it I was going to send them the lists of necro problems. That list is pretty extensive at the moment.
That’s the one! I read up on various necro issues in pvp, but I haven’t played mine in WvW enough to really know.

NO. No no no no no. I do NOT want my play time dictated by the enemy server’s bed time. I typically play for a few hours during prime time, and then a few hours late night/early morning. Besides that, this could be extremely easily abused. Got a 400 pt per tick score right now? Perfect! Get your alliance to log out and enjoy your lead that CAN’T be taken now.
BWT, I play on Blackgate. We do pretty well but our night crew definitely needs some help, so don’t try to accuse me of defending anything because it’s an advantage to me.
Agreed. Ridiculous and also easy to exploit in at least two ways. Probably more.
Now if a world has massive numbers and the other two have only a few on the map, the points could tick a bit slower at any hour of the day and that wouldn’t be too exploitable (especially if any attempts to exploit were met with permabans, hint hint Anet), but to lock people out completely in pvp as large scale as WvW? Bad idea.
~ArenaNet
Unless he’s a necro. And even then, he’ll probably make it into the keep safely.
~ArenaNet
It’s not too bad, even below level 30, on some professions. My engineer got quite a few bags the other night at sub-lvl-20 using grenades. Of course, if I was caught by myself, I was squishy toast.
~ArenaNet
I’m kind of hoping this, too.
~ArenaNet
It’s everything I could have asked for in large scale pvp. We’re last on points, but some great fights, very fun. I’ll take it over a blowout win any day every day. Or a blowout loss.
~ArenaNet
Since the transfers are still free, maybe some WvW guilds could consolidate on a couple of servers together, giving us six heavy WvW servers to work with (instead of the 4-5 we have now)?
~ArenaNet
Nefar, how do you suggest anet balance pops in wvw between servers without getting people to move?
You have a viable option, its move. Its the only viable option.
They could simply lock servers with queues 30-60 minutes. Then new players and guild joining the game will be funneled to low population servers who need them.
Servers with big queues will then get better over time due to player attrition, and some guilds would tfr to lower population servers (once they know that they will not be faced with hour long queues again in a few weeks). All it takes is for AN to start locking servers – sadly free tfrs are still available to all servers that I am aware off.
This desperately needs to happen, like last week. My indecisive self should not have been able to get back on JQ after I left it. Not at any hour of the day or night.
(I came back because the yak herders were gone, reducing my off-hours queues to something reasonable, but I still shouldn’t have been able to get back on, given the primetime queues.)
I don’t understand why they’re leaving transfers free and open to all worlds. I guess they hope it will cause people to spread out, but why not lock the full worlds and have free and unlimited transfers to the less populated worlds? Do they think heavy queue times will annoy alliances until they split up?
I doubt very much that will happen, and while I’m a member of no alliance (too shy), I feel bad for alliances that got on a server during headstart, staying up late and stressing and going to all that trouble, and then winning matches, and then getting flooded with latecomers. It’s not that I feel sympathy for alliances, but what ever happened to first come, first served?
~ArenaNet
Orb removal or a serious nerf… Hm, not a bad idea. Why compound the advantage more organized and more populated servers have with orbs?
~ArenaNet
If this is happening, it’s part of the game, whether it’s a verbal agreement or just tacit agreement. And I’m on JQ, by the way. In fact, if we get bumped out of the top three this week, I sincerely hope that if we end up against two servers that can’t field enough players to give us a good match, they team up on us, too, so we’ll have the best possible fights.
Also, Henge will have it’s loss. Eventually, two servers will team up against it if they can’t do it separately.
So stop stressing. It’s part of having 3 way fights.
~ArenaNet
