Another angle to this: I’ve heard that bots are now spamming group invites to try to cover their activities. The examples I read about were in Cursed Shore, but conceivably, this could be happening anywhere in the game. Just be mindful of this possibility and avoid grouping if it looks suspicious.

Well, the last ones who invited weren’t bots, anyway. But thanks for the warning, Hopefully I can auto-refuse invites, if not, I’ll just ignore the little pester icon. No offense to anyone who just likes grouping, but one of the best things about GW2 is that I don’t have to!

Group Invite Spam

You dont get more loot per mob, its just that a group of players can plow through more mobs faster. I’ve never felt the need to group up with strangers when I was leveling, and it’s perfectly fine.

Farming in Orr is endgame work for legendaries. You dont have to participate if you don’t want to. You can farm solo in Orr if you wish.

Thanks, hope you are correct and nothing has changed. That’s how I’d always thought it was, too, which is why the invite spam annoyed me, I thought they’d decided to nerf loot for those of us who play teamless while doing DEs and hearts with other players. I have no problem roaming with others, but I really hate stopping what I’m doing to accept a team invite from someone I don’t even know.

Blocked/Suspended/Terminated -- Player Comments

I’m glad the bots are being handled. I’m sorry for those who have been misidentified as bots, though. However, I have a few issues with some of the comments in this thread, even though the people making those comments might be completely innocent.

First are the people claiming that they can’t be a bot because they pvp and do dungeons. They must not realize that it’s not an either or thing. It’s not either someone bots all the time or not at all. There are leveling services that ridiculous players pay ridiculous amounts for so they don’t have to play the game themselves. I doubt very much those services provide hand leveling. It’s certainly automated.

Also, anyone with a decent mouse and keyboard or money to buy illicit software to play the game for them can set up afk farming, then take back control for some fun pvp or dungeons.

There are also bots farming in WvW (admittedly, pretty sure they mostly farm mobs), and I’ve even heard rumors of sPvP bots.

Then there is the “I can’t be a bot, I was playing when I was banned!” posts. Someone who is a botter might have happened to be at the keyboard when the ban happened but botting earlier in the day/week/month. So that’s no proof.

I wonder if the fact that some people are getting notices they might have been hacked after getting the ban notice means some of the gold farmers hacked accounts, played when the user wasn’t on, and left everything the user had alone in order to keep using the account. Never heard of it happening before, but I suppose it could.

Anyway, I hope all you innocent people get your accounts back soon and that all you guilty ones go do something else besides play MMOs, because you’re missing the point.

Been getting group invite spammed today on my level 20ish warrior. Someone told me to join because you get more loot that way.

Is that true? Please tell me that’s not true, because if it is, what is the point of getting rid of the lame grouping requirements that make other MMOs so annoying? It’s bad enough I need to group for more loot and badges in WvW, but really, in PVE, too?

I hope these people don’t know what they’re talking about. Meanwhile, autoblocking group invite. If I wanted standard MMO fair, I’d play a different MMO.

Increase Bag and Badge Drops in WvW

When I run with a team in WvW I earn enough bags and badges to get by, but when I run solo, I get almost none, not even enough to be sure I’ll be able to repair, much less enough to buy siege.

I’m sick of having to go begging in TS and Team Chat for a group and I won’t do it anymore, so kindly increase the drop rate for solo play. I have level 50 rare gear on my level 50 thief, and it’s ridiculous that I can PVE all over Tyria without having to team up manually but in WvW I’m required to unless I want to end the night fighting naked because all my gear is broken.

22 Chests opened, nothing unique

in Halloween Event

Corvindi.5734

ArenaNet will probably come out ahead on this and on everything else. Whoever thought up gems for gold is especially fiendishly clever.

MMOs need numbers (people don’t like to play deserted games) and of course companies want to make money off their MMOs. The whole system is set up so that rich and poor can both play (thereby populating the world), and then the rich get directed toward the cash shop as often as possible to squeeze what many consider to be maximum enjoyment from the game (pixel wealth and power) and to reduce the parts of MMOs that no one likes (boring repetition in order to gain maximum wealth and power).

These Halloween skins are the least of your worries. You should be worrying about how much directing toward that cash shop we’ll see in the future with changes in drop rates and game mechanics.

I dont understand all the hate. You guys shouldve known what you were getting into by investing in chests. I’m having a lot of fun carving pumpkins and costume brawling while youre moaning on the forums about how you didnt win the lottery.

Because Anet could have done things differently. The Anet of GW1 would have done things differently. It wasn’t about the money it was about having FUN. The Anet of GW1 I would have gladly given $15-$20 every month in the cash shop because I knew exactly what I was getting. No chance or gambling involved.

I drank the cool aid for 5 years waiting for “when it is ready” only to find out it wasn’t ready and got released any way. I don’t drink it any more because this Anet has lost all credibility with me. This event has just solidified that idea.

I suspect the Anet of GW1 spent far less money developing said GW1 than the Anet of GW2.

That doesn’t mean I approve of all the ways they are making money, because I’ve been very clear that I don’t.

Don’t discourage servers like IOJ from moving up.

First, that’s silly, since pvp is competitive.

Second, since Anet hasn’t seen fit to shut down these transfers, our only real hope on these servers is to have at least two full top tiers with competitive fights and a lot of doubt about who will end up where between #1 and #6.

That would at least spread out the late joins, and therefore the queues.

Think bigger: Free Transfers are not the problem...

in WvW

Posted by: Corvindi.5734

Corvindi.5734

Players will never balance themselves out due to the nature of WvW, large guilds, small guilds, and randoms.

WvW is designed so that large, coordinated forces do the lion’s share of winning. Large guilds tend to have far more impact than an equal number of small guilds and randoms, even if those small guilds and randoms are skilled and coordinated. And on top of that, from what I’ve seen it’s usually guild leaders doing the coordinating of small guilds and randoms. They have practice, after all, and they’re good enough at it to have gotten leadership in a large guild, so they’re the natural choice.

So large guilds greatly influence a server’s success.

Problem is, large guilds want to play together. They’re more effective together, and most wouldn’t be in the guild if they didn’t also enjoy playing together. So when a large guild or group of large guilds helps bring a server to #1, what does that guild do when their queues become insufferably long due to new transfers?

Well, they move to a new server.

Then what do the solo players and small guilds do? They either start losing against servers that still have their large guilds, or they chase the large guilds to a new server in order to win again, or they transfer to the server that is beating them and fill those queues.

And then the large guilds move again.

And then the solo players and small guilds chase them again.

This is a foolish cycle that will continue until it costs a good deal of money and trouble to transfer. And you can’t stop it, because everyone is just doing what is in his or her own best interests.

Nor do I think you can alter WvW to make it so that large guilds won’t have this impact, nor can you blame them for wanting to play together, nor can you blame randoms for refusing to stay on servers where we get our faces smashed in every week while everyone runs around like a headless chicken.

Even JQ, a server known more for smaller and medium sized guilds working together, has this issue, and there are some servers that have almost no independent leaderships at all. The best a server can do is spread commander duties among many small guilds so that one guild or alliance leaving doesn’t crumble the server, but even those small guilds will be forced out if the queues are long enough.

Oh, and to add to that, the ease of spying and sabotage thanks to these transfers makes coordinating with randoms and small guilds that don’t have long established relationships even harder, because no one knows who they can trust.

Good question. The biggest impact my first MMO had on me was the realization that the avatars running around on my screen were real people, from all over the world, and that I could talk to them and team with them.

That’s just taken for granted now.

I’m trying to imagine stepping into Guild Wars 2 and having that same feeling of awe and wonder over real people playing the game with me. On the one hand, it would be instantly immersive, those quiet solo times between teams wouldn’t have existed, at least during launch week.

On the other hand, excluding WvW, I would have felt less need to communicate with those players. Which I have no problem with, I’m just saying it would have changed the nature of my experience, as does the game world, which is infinitely more beautiful than my first MMO, but also infinitely more restrictive, scripted, and leavened.

My first MMO was Anarchy Online. You could get away with some crazy kitten in that game once you learned your way around. Equipping much higher level armor and weapons and going out to one shot red mobs, among other things.

I’d play Anarchy Online 2 in a heartbeat if they ever made it. It’s still my first love as far as MMOs go, I guess. Nothing is ever going to replace that game.

That said, Guild Wars 2 is the first game I’ve ever experienced massive scale PvP in that I enjoyed (roaming around Darkfall not finding anyone to kill doesn’t count and I never played DAOC long enough to experience their style), so Guild Wars 2 might become the yardstick for all my future massive PvP battle experiences.

Nice try, Kefka. The more organized a server is, the easier ‘the ride’, if I wanted that, I’d have joined the servers with the largest, most organized guilds, not JQ. I wanted active, and I wanted friendly, and yes, I wanted competitive. I did not want a cakewalk dominated by big guilds. I got what I wanted, minus some queue issues, and I want it to stay that way.

Anyone who doesn’t like their server’s situation is still free to move, and a lot of guilds have picked a server and done so.

Your solution would make queues much worse when going against servers that don’t field a large WvW playerbase. And it’s very exploitable.

Someone sent me a PM about Jade Quarry saying it would fit the bill, and I reluctantly chose it. I say reluctantly because I knew queues would be bad, but queues or no queues, I’m very happy with my choice because our community is great and WvW is incredibly fun.

You guys act like there were no servers chosen from the beginning by people who knew they would want to spend a lot of time in WvW. But there were, and mine is one of them.

I’d hoped to avoid the horrible queues that I knew would go with that, but I couldn’t, and when I tried to get away from those queues, I found out it wasn’t worth it, so I moved back, just hoping the end of yak farming would help (it did, but only a little, the queues are still bad).

Now you want to make my queues worse? But that wouldn’t make me play on a server where I can’t enjoy WvW with a decent population at all hours of the day and night, because I sometimes play at bizarre offpeak times and sometimes during primetime, and I want people to play with!

Nor would I move to a server where there is zero organization and lots of crying in team chat from frustrated players.

I’d just stop playing entirely, and so would most people. I guess that would fix the queues, but not in a good way.

I don’t find it unplayable. I hate that there are exploits, I hate that enemies don’t render, but I would really hate it if I logged in tomorrow, queued up, and read, “WvW will be down indefinitely for repairs”. I’d be off to play a new game.

Is everyone a Thief?

I’m playing a thief now in WvW, she’s low level, but there are at least two things I love about her. Perma runspeed without having a secondary weapon set I don’t particularly like. I enjoy shortbow and I even get the little portal with that.

But the main reason is, I seem to get more kills with her than with my other toons, including my ranger, who is longbow and can stand back and rain down arrows on enemies with relative ease.

Considering I have over 1300 kills and less than 200 badges and intend to buy a full set of gear with badges, I need all the kills I can get.

Plus the sound effects are pretty nice.

I agree. The level 80 Badge gear is the only gear I’m interested in, since I don’t feel like doing dungeons (or much PVE at all). It’s going to take forever just to gear up one toon.

@Corvindi

we aren’t talking about mesmers, nor are we talking about rendering issues…..

Click the youtube link (if you don’t trust it, just go to youtube.com and search it yourself – it literally takes like 30 seconds to find clips of people using speed hacks. This isn’t mesmer bs)

It may not be, I’m responding to a post it wouldn’t let me quote for some reason saying Mesmers shouldn’t teleport because of the rendering issue.

I’ve already seen videos of hackers in WvW, they weren’t just using speed hacks, they were teleporting and crawling up cliffs like little spiders.

Arenanet needs to break out the bug spray.

Badges of honour drop nerf?

It seems like the longer I’m in WvW, the less badges I get, even though I’m doing the same amount of killing. I could be wrong on this, but that’s how it seems.
