Let’s just bind all skill effects and related conditions to the 1 skill, that way we can all just spam 1 all day to full effect.
And this adds to the discussion, how?
We can swap the order of utility skills – we should be able to swap the order of weapon skills (apart from the auto attack).
Personally it’s the p/d sb condition thieves that bug me the most.
I’ve been hoping for the ability to swap around the order of #2 – #5 skills for ages.
Not only phantasms, but I’d like to have all the ground targeted skills on the same button (curtain, mind stab, chaos storm).
I would be interested in an option of swapping all phantasm summon skills for normal player skills, and play only with clones.
Well if/when we ever get dual profession/horizontal progression or similar, then perhaps it should be that the mesmer can be specialised to fulfill more than one role – so it can be built more toward the thief’s role, or it can be built towards a support/utility role?
I can’t think of a single role the class could or should fill at the moment – given the nature of the skills there is scope to fulfill several roles.
On EotM it is particularly tough and annoying to manage.
It is fine now and I’m sure it will be perfectly fine even after the patch – sure there will be things to adapt to, but it won’t be unplayable, unlike glamour/confusion.
Yes you need to be committed to play well, and will run into some challenges in opponents, but on the whole there’s little to be concerned about.
Build it, play it, have fun.
Tried playing again, same error.
No problems other than with gw2.
@Curunen, Mantras big weakness is teh loadup. But with stealth timing I can charge mantra while uninterupted. also I start mantra, let 1 sec chanrge then bink = endup with almost full mantra and wery hard to be interupted.
+ Mantra after charged can be used when stunned etc
/Osicat
Ah, the blink while charging is good, and seeing as I use staff a lot that might be pretty useful.
Going to stick mantra on and see how it goes now.
Can’t get in game for more than a few seconds at the moment – keep disconnecting.
Terrible today – disconnecting every spvp match after 5 minutes or so.
@Major update.
Shatter Cat heavy landed in the grave. New build Shatter Cat ghost. My 1st shatter build in ages.
/Osicat
Welcome back.
Your build link for the new shatter has signet of ether btw.
How do you find the healing mantra in general? I’ve not played much with it, favouring ether feast and if necessary covering with stealth.
Easy. If those two people are elite, you have to be Chuck Norris. Otherwise, you won’t win. This rule applies to all classes; not just Mesmer.
This, and “working as intended”.
Of course by being human, a player’s ability varies frequently, even during one fight, so to win such a fight is possible with an element of good fortune on your side (and opposite for them – buggy skills, mind partially occupied by other thoughts leading to a slip up, etc).
In a “perfect” scenario, I would say that use of terrain and manipulation of yours and the opponents’ movement through the terrain are the key features in order to triumph.
Better for what?
Bear in mind for everything pve you can guest, but for wvw you’re stuck, so I’d always choose based on what you want from wvw (large groups, small groups, guild oriented, pug, solo roaming…) unless you have no interest in that mode.
Did that thread get deleted?
Kitten this kitten teleport bug – got me killed to a lockdown mesmer on eotm. :/
(No it wasn’t immobilise…)
Well there’s no set rule – just picking a location that will give you an advantage, either defensively or offensively. Can be behind an opponent to disorient and follow up with a burst, can be away in a straight line to gain distance (works better with 1200), can be up on terrain for tactical advantage or escape.
In general, I’d try to use it in the way which is going to confuse the enemy the most (unless directly chasing or runnnig away), so you’ve got to look at yourself from their perspective and where they wouldn’t expect you to move.
Knowing specific blink locations is certainly a key element in some maps – for example just today I was 1v2 in the temple on silent storm, fight not going well so made a move in the direction of the doorway, decoy to break target, then 90 degree blink to the right, up on the wooden platform for a clean escape.

Least = scepter. Ignore this trait unless you have a very specific build in mind. If you’re going 20 in inspiration then better to trait for focus.
Sword is good to trait for, given the higher cooldown of blurred frenzy. Pistol only if you spend a lot of points in duelling (at least 20), but it competes with deceptive evasion, 1200 blink and phantasmal fury, all of which are solid choices.
Definitely way too expensive at the moment, but it’s an alternative that would allow me to run full melandru/hoelbrak and poultry soup for roaming.
^Duelling III – retaliatory shield.
With scepter+sword and PU, you can get a lot out of it.
It’s tradable. There are some listings on the trading post atm if you CBA to visit Lornar’s.
Hmm, I wonder if it will remain after this LS event, and if the price is likely to come down a bit on the tp (unlikely, but I can hope).
Is it 25% buff or some other amount?
I take it it’s account bound?
Wow, that’s interesting.
Do not raise the cooldown of the prestige – it will make the torch totally unappealing for non-PU builds.
Better choice would be to tone down the boon refresh or possibly move cleansing conflagration, though I have no idea where.
Better to fix the focus so it is a viable 1vmany alternative again
It’s hideous. All of it.
OK do you understand the concept of legendary, it is that you MASTER every part of this game, That means WVW maps, Which means you have to prove your worth and CONQEUR towers/keeps to EARN those points of interest. I just made my first legendary (twilight) and finished it in under 2 months, ankitten ow working on #2. I found only getting the nessesary amount of gold for t6mats/precursor hard, every other part of it i enjoyed, including map completion of both PVE/WVW.
I am a prodiminatly wvw focused player though, and doing the DOZENS of pve maps didn’t make me whine, so you shouldnt be complaining about completing FOUR wvw ones, just because they take more effort to do.
Sorry if this seemed a little full on, but i am sick and tired of hearing people who only wvw/pve exclusivley complain about how they have to do the one they don’t like to get their own legendary. It is how it is, either suck it up and EARN the legendary or give up and don’t, just please stop crying about it.
While your point is correct, the situation is the opposite for the OP – it is returning to complete the pve maps they are complaining about.
Yes, spvp will help because when you die you won’t spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to find another fight to practice with.
Only if you find some good duelists in wvw then that is better to practice, because you don’t have to worry about limited time and pvp conquest mode.
wvw:
- More camera panning
- More running (towards and away from fights)
- More time spent doing nothing and wasting food/util buffs (I just had to say it)
- on the upside you can focus and enjoy fighting for what it is, and not have to worry about points/score.
Combat can be very “extended” over long distances and varying terrain, which is very different from spvp – fighting while using freelook and judging the environment to outflank (or escape from being flanked) is a very different skillset from spvp (although it partially translates over in terms of judging which point/direction to go for based on enemy positions on the minimap).
spvp:
- instant action.
- less need for freelook, particularly when fighting on a point.
- builds are not representative of what you might run into in wvw (for example ridiculous point bunkers)
Just play tomorrow?
I’ve downloaded and had a look around but will leave any in depth exploration for tomorrow evening.
Yeah, I’m impressed so far, good job.
I just thought (as I’m downloading) – what if my character is in LA? Will they load outside a gate or what?
perma death, you will need to start over.
lol, nevermind I just saw the patch notes.
I just thought (as I’m downloading) – what if my character is in LA? Will they load outside a gate or what?
^That.
Swordsman is one hit with fast recharge, hard for enemy to dodge.
Only downside is single target, so make sure you cast it on the correct target.
^Only because of the principle of illusions as “being in the enemy’s mind”, so it doesn’t make sense much for phantasms to be summoned without a target.
However things can change, and as I said I don’t mind personally either way.
<snip>iRabbit
- will be pulled out of the iMages hat
I want this.
:D
But regarding the rest – some big changes. I like that the iwarlock is power based, and I’m not sure that having idefender and iwarden castable without a target is a good idea.
Having said that, I’m mostly indifferent to any of the changes, so wouldn’t mind either way.
Going to have to jump on the bandwagon with Minstrel and Kraitkin as well.
Genius.
So that’s what Trahearne’s been up to…
1. Sword – Mesmer
2. Greatsword – Guardian
3. Mace – Guardian
4. Hammer – Warrior
5. Staff – Ele
6. Focus – Mesmer
7. Shield – Engi
8. Torch – Ranger
9. Dagger – Ele/Thief
10. Scepter – Necro
11. Trident – Mesmer
12. Spear – Thief
13. Harpoon gun – Engi
14. Shortbow – Thief
15. Longbow – Ranger
16. Axe – Necro
17. Pistol – Thief
18. Rifle – Engi
Any kind of blink/swap style move would be amazing for sure.
This is why I strictly prevented myself from touching wvw until having explored all the pve maps, when I was going for map completion.
The most mind numbing experience ever, but I don’t regret it now.
Also, this build would be EXTREMLY strong if we got mainhand pistol. My dream setup=
Sword/Torch + Pistol/Pistol, traited for 1200 range and 20% cd.
/Osicat
I see I’m not the only one salivating over a Sw/T + P/P setup, as long as MH pistol has one evasive/defensive move.
I’m betting the same, both with Jory and Canach – which is good because I like Canach.
But this should be in the LS forum.
Well documented, should provide a good reference point for anyone wanting to clarify these things.
Sticky – Hidden Cat (power build).
arenanet plz add tournament games played to avatar and dont allow people with lower than 250 games played in this forum anymore
seriously just read this tread full with wvw and hotjoin bullkitten
At least try to help/educate the OP.
Tough one – either going to be condition hybrids or group support builds of some sort.
The first 15 points is just too good, and given you’ll almost always want two of I, II, IV, IX, or X, it’s hard to let go of 20.
Lowering the illusion count without any other changes would seriously hurt our damage, defence and overall kill any usefulness that remains in this class.
Funnily enough I’d love to have the choice for more direct abilities in exchange for less illusions, but it would require a huge class makeover to be worthwile. Once a few key cooldowns have been blown, you can melt us pretty easily.
This is a targeting and experience of spotting the real one issue – I understand, honestly I do – we’ve all had to learn at some point. As a necro you have all the tools to melt through illusions and the mesmer (discounting moa, hopefully will be fixed for you), so keep at it.
You should rename this to the Comprehensive Bible for Mesmers!@
Haha, yeah tips in there for everyone, no matter the build.
The community really brings me down more often than anything else. Random tomfoolery disrupting things to “this game sucks” all over the place, to “kill your ranger and roll a warrior lol”.
Honestly, this is the top thing which makes me want to not log in on any given day.
This. Although you do run into a lot of friendly people, as in any multiplayer game/community you do suffer the misfortune of coming across the occasional… well… kitten.
But of course this can’t be changed – kittens will be kittens, no matter the situation.
Ascalonian clergy, student, country, vigil light… yeah, that’s about it.
