The best thing I loved about DAoC were the massive battles. I hated small manning and hated 8v8s. I loved zerg surfing. Whats the best class for doing that in this game? I want to be able to drop tons of damage on people trying to take a keep we own or if running with a group of people and we come across another large group in the open or trying to take the a keep drop serious AoE on them. I could care less if Im glass cannon and die in 10 seconds I just enjoy doing a lot of damage really fast to as many people as possible.

First off, I’d like to state that necros are not “broken”.
Awesome. Glad to know I can finally come back to this game and play a Minionmancer and be as effective at DPSing as a warrior . When was the patch where they fixed minions again? I still cant find the notes.
Im sick of playing other MMOs where you have something rediculous like a 12 ability rotation along with 30 other keybinds to be aware of to use during certain situations. I just want a class where I wont be stressed out and can just mash a few buttons and collect loot. Having a fast kill speed is also nice especially at max level when I will be farming level 80 areas.
Is it really April 1st already? Cause thats what necro patch notes looked like.
So just finished reading all the patch notes for the new update. Didnt see anything about minions being fixed. Maybe I was in a hurry and read them too fast and missed them or something. Did anyone see mention of minions being fixed so they arent 100% useless?
I hope minions get fixed soon so I can start playing again. Before launch I saw there was a necro class with minions and immediately knew that was the class for me. Then I actually played the class and threw up on my keyboard. I actually went back to D3 because Blizzard finally fixed witch doctor pets making them not suck anymore. I just love pet classes but didnt like Ranger. Played a Necro, Mage, and Beastlord in EQ, Bonedancer in DAoC, and my Mage in Rift switched around b/t Necro and Elementalist builds.
I just dont understand why they have refused to fix minions almost 3 months after release. I know there has been bigger stuff to fix first but making an entire playstyle for a class suck because they were too lazy to make minions work before launch is unaccaptable. I mean did no one play necros at all during any Betas? Why didnt anyone go “Hey A-Net these minions are terrible please look at them”?
Been trying to make several classes work for me but just didnt find them fun. Thinking about trying a Guardian out. Whats the normal “I want to level as fast as possible” build and weapon of choice? Also once I hit max level is there a “Best” farming build for stuff like DEs? Just looking for a class that can dish out damage, while also taking it and being able to stay healed.
So I quit over a month ago because I didnt like how ANet was 100% ignoring Necros by not fixing the 100% useless minions. It seems that even after a month they still refuse to fix them so I figure I will just reroll to a new class.
I would prefer something that will be able to handle soloing even at higher levels without having to rely on heavy kiting. I tried Guardian and didnt like it but would like a class that has some decent self healing and also doesnt take for ever to kill things.
why would someone make a guide trying to get people to play a bad build?
So been about a month since I quit because I couldnt play as a minionmancer. Just wondering if they actually work now or are minions still weak piles of rubbish that dont regen health and refuse to attack half the time?
I keep reading about engineers being squishy so I figured a shield would be better than having one more condition.
Been wanting to play a condition class but havent found the right one yet. Tried and hated necro. Tried and found shortbow ranger to be boring as hell. Tried rifle warrior and also sword to be about as boring as ranger. Mezmer was just weird. Never tried thief but dont really want to be melee. So the only thing left I guess is Engineer. I messed around with one for a few days in PvP and decided that I enjoyed the class, at least more than the others I played.
So if I go with Pistol/shield and elixir gun with 30 points into Firearms will my damage be on par with other classes that rely on conditions? Well I guess it doesnt really matter because this is probably the last class I will try before I decide this game isnt for me since I have tried all the others and didnt like them. Whats a good build for soloing using the setup I mentioned. I know I need max Firearms but where do the other 40 points go?
I like Warthog and the Fernhound. I could care less about what buffs they bring they are just cool.
I have just given up playing until minions are worth using. I tried the other classes and just find them boring. But playing the class I enjoy is just not fun either. My pets dont attack half the time, they agro everything when they do decide to attack, they refuse to regen health, and they also refuse to do respectable damage even with the 30% trait. I watch every other class run around killing 3-5 mobs in the same time it takes me to kill one mob. I just see no reason to get frustrated and burned out. I enjoy the game but right now I guess I have to play something else until my class gets fixed. I tried other necro builds but the reason I picked the class was for minions.
Why did they even add them in the first place if they knew they were just going to back them horrible?
(edited by Dabrixmgp.4758)
Kinda hard to care about something thats 100% useless.
I can tell you are not using minions right.
Theres a right way to use them? Lets see:
1. they cant be commanded like ranger pets so you cant control them
2. they reuse to regen health so they die every fight but I cant tell them to back off see #1
3. they refuse to attack targets half the time but I cant tell them to attack cause see #1
4. they refuse to do an acceptable amount of damage to bring a MM in line with other classes that give up utility skills for DPS.
For example a signet build warrior using a greatsword has 0 utility cause he traded his utility for DPS. He does Awesome DPS and stuff dies fast. Thats they way a MM should be. We sacrifice any and all utility in order to use utility slots for pets yet we still do crap DPS.
Kinda hard to care about something thats 100% useless.
Can someone tell me how I am supposed to master minions that are absolute trash, refuse to attack anything, and dont regen health?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are bad builds… and you’ve picked one. Conditionmancer is pretty much the only competitive necro build atm.
Did you stop to think that not everyone wants to pvp? Good god.
Yes I only want to PvE.
So since everyone keeps saying theres no such thing as bad classes because it comes down to the person playing them I have decided to keep playing my necro as a minionmancer. Can someone please help me with a build that will let me do as much damage as a signet build greatsword warrior? Also what weapon should I use?
Because what I enjoy is plowing mobs over at max level while farming at a fast pace. If my class that I find fun while leveling wont let me do that then my fun goes to unfun. Thats happened in SW:ToR. I had a lot of fun leveling and doing the story quests but once you hit max level the game ended because it was impossible to get groups. So whats fun for leveling can easily go to “This sucks why did I waste my time leveling this class?” in a hurry once at max level. I want to avoid that.
So I should keep playing my necro as a minionmancer even though theres 1000 posts saying that minions are horrible and worthless?
Where do you draw the line between picking a class that you enjoy but is very weak compared to a class you might not enjoy but is very strong? I have tried almost every class to at least 40 and the ones I enjoy the most everyone says have the most issues at max level like my necro or engineer. The two classes I find the most boring are the ones people say are the strongest: warrior and guardian.
I think either way Im screwed. If I continue playing the classes I enjoy max level could just be a massive headache and probably make me quit because killing things might be a tedious task with lots of deaths. But again on the other side if I get a class to 80 I dont really enjoy I still might quit because even though Im powerful and can faceroll everything I dont like the class.
So which is the right decision? Play a weak class you enjoy or a strong class that you dont? I prefer to min/max when I play so I dont want to suck once I hit 80.
It’s like two weeks into the game. No one really know how to play the game yet, that type of stuff doesn’t get figured out for possibly years. It’ll take some time before folks figure out what skills and weapon combo is the best (or really, exactly what role a profession sits); complaining about being under/overpowered this early is kinda silly.
It didnt take me 2 days to realize minions were terrible and 100% trash. So your claim that no one really knows how to play is a bit far fetched. Unless you are saying minions are perfectly fine in their current form? How long do you want us to wait until its OK to complain about obviously broken stuff, like minions? The faster ANet learns whats broken the faster it gets fixed.
Really want to continue my necro but no point until minions are 100% fixed because thats the way I want to play. Oh well at least theres no sub fee so i can go do something else and wait for them to get buffed then come back.

Of all the casters you could have compared to, you picked a necromancer?
Go to almost every class forum there is, and you might see 20-30% whining and moaning.
The necromancer forum? 70-90% whining and moaning, why? Because the class is absolutely broken. At least you guys can have civil discussions, we’re too busy wallowing in our sorrow and self pity to even bother talking about how to play the class, because no necromancer build really works extremely well all around.
Just did a warrior as well but I guess you missed that. Its not hard i can go all day picking a class and coming up with builds where 2-3 trait lines support each other very well. Also even as broken as necros are I still made a build where traits had good synergy. Once they get fixed in the first balancing patch they will be far better than elementalist because they are easier to play and their traits actually work together.
Just wondering which class can do the most damage from conditions?
If a profession has the be played perfectly by a great player just to be as effective as a bad warrior or guardian there is a very serious problem with the class.

No offense, but you clearly haven’t played a necromancer.
When did I say I did. Its not hard to go through the traits for every class and see they have good synergy. I have never played a warrior but lets see if I can pick out the traits that go well together:
OK using a 20/30/0/0/20 build with all signets and using a sword/axe combo
Strength: Power and Condition Duration
2-5% extra damage depending on my adrenaline
5% extra damage wielding an axe in offhand
Arms: Condition Damage and Precision
40 Precision for each unused signet = 200 if using 5
33% chance to cause vulnerability on crits
33% to cause bleeding on crits
10% damage to bleeding foes
Critical hits grant an extra adrenaline strike
Discipline: Critical Damage
9% crit for full adrenaline
Critical hits with axes grant extra adrenaline
So if using a Sword/Axe build you have good bleeds, loads of crit, and will always cap out adrenaline in a hurry.
I can do this with every class. Again Im not saying stay in one attunement for 100% of the time Im saying the majority of your traits and passives require you to. And the ones that dont keep you in one attunement dont work well with the others.
(edited by Dabrixmgp.4758)
Been reading through the class forums and every single class is currently “broken” other than Warriors and Guardians. At first I thought it was the typical MMO QQ but many are well thought out posts and list many traits and abilities that are either bugged, do so little damage that are useless, or dont synergize well with the other trait lines. Right now are they only two classes that are playable Warriors and Guardians?
I just couldnt stomach leveling my elementalist anymore so I rerolled a necro. Staff with wells seems to own especially in DEs. Dagger seems fun being in the thick of things. But scepter seems very meh. Its like that weapon sucks for every class cause its weak as hell on my Guardian as well.
Also I want to play as a minionmancer. The game is nearing its one month anniversary and Im fairly certain the first major balancing/fixing broke stuff patch will be around that time. Minions are one thing im 100% sure will be fixed in that patch. Once that happens I plan on playing with all utilities as minions and 30 into Blood for insane amounts of self healing passives and traits. Will probably obviously get the 30% minion damage buff and the 50% more health.
So if I chose to play a Minionmancer is dagger the best weapon to go with or would scepter work better so I can stay at range? Also is it going to suck trying that playstyle for the next few weeks until that patch does come out? Is it still decent enough to level up questing, I mean nothing can be worse than elementalist leveling.
Certainly they wouldnt have made a class with multiple different pet types with traits to make them stronger just to have them always suck and be worthless. I have no interest in Conditionmancer I want to haveminions, and no I dont want to play a Ranger.
Just because a select few people excel at a class deosnt mean its fine. In every MMO there is a massive gap from the top tiered skilled people to the guys at the bottom. The problem is why should the guys at the bottom suffer if they enjoy the class and be forced to suck as long as they play?
So they buff the class and now every other class QQs that they are having elementalist solo 4 people at a time. But they fail to mention that guy played one in all Betas and has mastered the class. Anyone with enough skill can take the worst class in any game ever made and make them look like the OP fotm class. Classes SHOULD NOT be balanced around the top 1% of players who have no problems going in and out of attunments and owning everything no matter what build or weapons they are using. If games balanced around the best players in the World everyone would quit becuase every class would be next to impossible to play and definitely not fun other than to a handful of people.

Why do hardly any of the traits sync with each other. In fact looking over the traits you actually make yourself worse by switching unless you absolutely have to. The way Elementalist is designed right now it only makes sense to stay in one attunement. Theres no point using the others because the traits are all over the place and at most only are helpful if you are in one attunement for pretty much 100% of the time.
I could compare them to every other class to point out how all of them have trait synergy and the elementalist has none but that would take forever so I will just use another caster class. Necros have trait lines work well with each other to make the class less squishy. Lets use a minion build for example as minions will most definitely get buffed in the first major balancing patch and will probably be a very strong solo build:
First of all for a light armor class you need Healing and Vitality. So going 30 points into Blood Magic gives you the following:
5 seconds of regen when health drops below 90%
Siphoning health is 50% more effective
Siphon health whenever you hit a foe
Minions siphon health and give it to you
Siphon health whenever you crit
Now becuase of all that incoming health you also deal 5% more damage if above 90%
20 into Spite give you power
5% bonus to healing from power
30% increased minion damage. If the amount they siphon from your Blood line is based on their damage this is even more healing and also DPS
20 into Death Magic gives Toughness and Boon duration
10% damage enemies under 50% health more DPS
20 toughness for each minion you have summoned so if using full minions more tanky
50% more health for minions
That build is an example of different traits working together to make each other better. Basically you have a ton of pets which grants you more toughness and they are buffed to 50% more health and 30% more damage and also heal you when they attack. Also you have a ton of survivability due to all the self healing. That sounds like pretty good synergy.
But looking over Elementalist traits most go something like this: Deal 10% more damage when attuned to this element. OK useless when you are in the other 3. All____skills recharge 20% faster again worthless unless you stay in that element. Air has lots of mobility but only when you are attuned to it so useless when using something different. Elementalist lack all the self healing a necro has but that 5 point regen passive seems nice….but oh wait it only works when you are attuned to Water. Thats funny necros also get a regen but it works all the time.
TLDR: If they expect us to play this class using all of our spells from each attunment why the hell dont thekittentraits support each other? About the only possible build where they semi do is a 30 Fire/30 Earth bleed build but after reading a guide on it you pretty much stay in Earth the entire time.
Did you even bother playing DAoC? That happened all the time.
Everyone expects buffs to this class, personally I don’t want even more fotm kids playing ele…
arent they all playing signet warriors and guardians?
I think some people chose elementalist because they wanted a damage dealing mage
where is that class? They arent even close to the damage of Warrior and Rangers. Probably not close to Thieves either. If they are a damage dealer who are they dealing more damage than?
Why would I want an elementalist when I can bring another Warrior or Guardian? Why anyone want want to bring an inferior class is beyond me. Its the same reason during Vanilla WoW no one wanted Ret Paladins in groups.
Well at least theres one good thing about an elementalist. When you are at the bottom the only way to go is up. Seen it in ever single MMO. One single patch and BAM! from worst to first.
Are at the bottom?
Every day I fear we’ll get nerfed! It’s true that on my warrior I chew thru stuff like a bulldozer but Elementalist is not weak, it’s just intricate to make it work.
Thats a problem then. EIther warriors should be made more complicated or elementalists made simpler. I just dont understand the logic behind elementlists right now. How can a class like a Ranger. Guardian, or Warrior use like 3 abilities and farm extremely fast with no risk of dieing while an elementalist has to use everything they have and kill much slower and still risk dieing. Shouldn’t there be some balance?
Use mobility.
Dont stay in close, jump in and out
what am I a thief?
Well at least theres one good thing about an elementalist. When you are at the bottom the only way to go is up. Seen it in ever single MMO. One single patch and BAM! from worst to first.
And yet, I can sell that item from anywhere, getting it out of my inventory, for a “15%” convenience fee. I don’t think I have a problem with that.
Or you could salvage and send to vault from anywhere and sell the mats for a real profit later. I believe that’s a “have your cake and eat it too” scenario.
Please explain that one to me. Right now I have a 50 copper 2 handed sword. I just salvaged it into 2 iron ore which sell for 6 copper each. OK Mr. math major tell me how 12 copper is > 50 copper?
Is there a reason why elementalists do not have a "reduce falling damage" trait?
in Elementalist
Posted by: Dabrixmgp.4758
Yes because that would totally instantly fix elementalist problems. I knew there was a reason they were so weak. Its because we have no reduced fall damage.
So when do Eles get the ability to farm as fast and easily as a warrior or guardian and what spec do I need to use?
Been wanting to switch from staff to Dagger/Dagger because it just looks fun. But becuase it requires you to pretty much be in melee range can you take a beating like a necro along with their tons of ways to get health back or can you avoid damage like a mezmer using clones? I just dont see how being in melee range is even remotely viable for an elementalist. What do Elementalists have compared to the other 2 light armor casters to stay alive in melee range?
Necros can use pets to take hits and siphon life. They might not be good right now but with max pets out using siphon life on hit with traits to increase their damage and HP along with 50% more health gained from dagger 2 that healing adds up. Also sword mezmers can again use their illusions to help them out.
I can understand some people want a challenege so they picked the hardest class to play but are you saying that every single elementalist is a Pro and is attunement dancing and kiting mobs or players like a champ? I seriously dont think so. But at the same time if you suck at mastering all their spells, utility usage, and avoiding dieing then why would you force yourself to play a class you suck at?
I have 15 years of MMO experience. There have been classes I have tried and I have been good at them. Then there were others that I just couldnt play because they required so much going on and I was awful at them, EverQuest Bard and Enchanter were two off the top of my head that I just couldnt play to their fullest to help my groups. I just didnt feel like the hassle was worth it and stuck to classes I could play well and did enjoy. So if all these elementalists running around are playing because they enjoy the class then they all must be good. Becuase who enjoys being bad?
All I see on here and on the GW2guru forums is how weak elementalist are and how they die if a mob sneezes on them compared to every other profession. If thats the case why are they a dime a dozen? After Warriors and Guardians Elementalists are easily the 3rd most popular class, at least on my server. If they have so many issues why do so many people punish themselves by playing one? Also not to mention they are probably the hardest class to play to its full capabilities. Are all these people just pro gamers who are awesome and can just attunement dance no matter what weapons they are using and own everyone using all spells and utilities to their fullest? I mean I highly doubt people would pick them just to be bad. I have been gaming for a long time and even found them very challenging and hard to play, especially in sPvP.
Are elementalist actually fine at level 80 and can farm just as easily as a Guardian,Ranger, or Warrior using the same minimal effort?
Trying to figure out which one to get to 80 first. I have all 3 in their 60s. Ranger is using a Shortbow condition build. Guardian and Warrior are both Greatsword. I just want fast efficient farming with little risk of death. I considered thief because of the 25% movement passive but they have to do too much dodging for my taste.
Thinking about making an alt. Just wondering which will be the easiest to level up and also have the easiest time farming at level 80. I already have a Mezmer but Id like something thats more laid back when Im feeling lazy.
