Downed state is here to counter one-shot burst builds, and does its job quite well. You can spec yourself in managing it to help teammates, or stomp enemies – maybe even both. Having a dedicated “stomper” or a “medic” in your team gives you huge advantage.

That’s a pretty kitten bad comparison.

1)First off, Warriors have two stun Bursts. Then there’s Shield 4 skill. That means there’s a total of five weapon sets that have access to a stun.

2)Second off, Unsuspecting Foe is currently one of the reasons why Warriors are able to run builds like Mace/Shield + GS or Mace/Shield + Hammer and get decent damage out of it. And if you check out the Warrior forum, there’s plenty of complaints about that.

3)And even besides that, stealth is much more common than stun on a warrior. Why not just give Thieves a baseline +50% crit chance instead? Same thing, pretty much.

4)And wait… did you just sneak in a suggestion where a build with x/30/x/x/x would be able to pick both Executioner and a +50% crit chance in stealth? Because kitten , that’s OP. It doesn’t take that much to get base 50% crit chance, which means the end result would be the equivalent of being able to choose both Hidden Killer and Executioner.

1) Warriors also benefit from other people stunning their targets (this trait also includes knockdowns and dazes), what is very common in group fights.

2)I’m not insisting on removing this trait.

3)There are thieves without stealth, and warriors without stuns.
Warriors with stuns are much more powerful than thieves with stealth.

4)No, it is strong, but not op. Other trait lines require buffs aswell to make it worth going for grandmaster.
However, what I consider as OP is being able to heal 600-800 hp/s, being tanky and doing lots of damage, long stun uptime in fights, what gives you wide window for making mistakes… but this is another topic.

Hidden Killer tweak

The suggested tweak isn’t a good solution. It is a grandmaster trait, which is viable only with dagger main hand, and needs stealth. It’s terribly underpowered.

I would move it to adept, and give 50% crit increase instead of 100%. Mind that warriors have almost the same trait in adept line (+50% crit against stunned targets), which not only affects one of their weapon and its #1 ability, but is also much easier to access in combat. Many classes have free daze/stun/knockdown to contribute this trait (including other warriors!), as opposed to stealth.

Then, remove one of bad adept traits, like Concealed Defeat, remake it entirely and move to grandmaster level. For example, blind target for 3 seconds on a critical strike with some small internal CD.

No, there should be both punishments and rewards. Both of them should be proportional to player’s deeds (they should stack).

Punishment of blocking a certain player from joining matches for X amount of time is a bad punishment. Good punishment is harsh, but also quick.

Perma-stealthing thief bunkers are toxic to the game-mode. It shouldn’t be hard to see why fighting someone you can never see is bad gameplay.

Surely fighting a bunker warrior with perma vigor, cleansing all conditions every few seconds (not to mention berserker stance), regenerating +800 hp/s is more enjoyable. But guardians are even worse, because before you manage to burst them down, they pop their infamous ,,bubble" and are at 100%hp again – and this can’t be even interrupted.

As I suggested, make a small counter mechanism to stealth capping, and allow thieves to hold/conquer points while being cloaked. This isn’t overpowered by any means.

If you want to play like that – thieves share initiative between weapon sets, making their swaps for combos almost nonexistent, as opposed to other classes. Also, they still have 10 sec cooldown on swaps… but this is not our topic.

Ugruk is right in one thing – this is just not fair, that thieves can’t use stealth to conquer nodes. It is like disallowing necros to hold them while in death shroud, mesmers when having 3 or more illusions, or warriors during endure pain/berserker stance.

Easiest solution from me – allow thieves to stay in stealth for 4 seconds. After that, they count as “away”, so enemy can capture a node. Also, make revealed reset the timer, so spamming C&D wouldn’t “lock” a node.

The best tactic is to steal some items for later use. For example, steal an axe from a warrior and fight a shortbow ranger with it. This will deal like 20k damage to them if they are stupid. Ectoplasm from mesmer will give enourmous advantage against a stun warrior, skull fear against a thief… and list goes on.

You are pretty wrong, because you can have as many summoned thieves as you like.

Before change to “merciful ambush” trait, you could have 2 thieves from traps, 1 thief from this trait, another one from “improvisation”, and additional 2 from “thieves guild”.
So, you could have 6 summoned thieves, but my record was 5 (never bothered to do this with “improvisation”).
They did very high single target DPS, but died from even smallest AoE, like guardian’s greatsword spin – unless you managed to interrupt it, then he was dead.

Also, if you came from WoW, you should know one thing – nerfing rogues/thieves is a long tradition in MMOs, and traditions are what defines us.

The only map I can actually kill solo these brainless mace/hammer warriors with healing signet? Never!

There is not enough stability in the world to counter all those knockbacks.

I use zero stability and I’m doing perfectly fine. Switching just 1 utility slot for this map.

But this is how this game works – you have right and left hand. First 2 abilities use right hand, and 2 last left hand. Middle ability is dual wield, or also right hand for other classes. There is no need for changing that. If you want to revolutionize P/P, just fix its dual wield and #2 skill, which has almost no use under any circumstances.

My suggestion would be simple – allow us to choose weapon skills like utilities, so we won’t have LDB in power/crit build, and unload in condi. Animations of these skills would be the same, just change their attack types and names. That’s all.

Trait "improvisation"

It resets all utilities of one type, even if you don’t have them on your bar.

If you have healing signet, trap, trick, deception, and basilisk venom, it will always reset one of them. But if you have, for example, hide in shadows and four venoms, you have only 20% chance it will work, but then it recharges 4 utility slots.

“Bundles” are weapons you can pick up (elementalist can summon them, banners, charrzooka), and I also heard it works with siege vehicles.

Since when ,,steal" is ,,obstructed" when enemy is out of LOS?
I know it has been like that for some time now (last patch?), but when 90% of steals miss during a tournament, losing all associated traits and items, it feels somehow bad…

I hope it is another bug. Please revert it just like you did with shadowsteps few months ago.

Scorpion wire fails on ragers, because they are surrounded by their petting zoo, and you might pull a pet instead. The safest way is to steal a skull from necro, enter stealth, break a glass and fear them toward the pit.

My point is, warriors are at last fixed, while other classes (a good example is a thief) were left untouched. In my opinion, it was a right decision to buff them here and there, but why we can’t have this for others? All I am suggesting is to fix these garbage traits, and eveything will flow by itself. Some of them are either useless or very weak (this includes even some costly grandmaster traits), no matter in which situation you are. Also, don’t forget utilities – 3 seconds of single target chill on 45 second cooldown… just wow.

These builds do have tradeoffs and weaknesses, but I have only seen a few clever people actually bothering to exploit them.

Let’s compare warrior’s and thief’s traits.

Warrior has adept trait, giving them 50% extra critical strike change to stunned foes. Their stuns are long and easy accessible, not to mention allies may apply them aswell.
Thieves have grandmaster trait, which also gives extra 50% crit chance (since you already sit at 50% or even above) on stealth attack. But there are two interesting things. First of all, it has any use only on dagger main hand (backstab). Sword, pistol and shortbow (doesn’t even have access to stealth) are all together out. Second, since you use only backstab for this, you need to position yourself behind them, and often it’s just not possible. They continue beating on you with auto-attack when you are trying to achieve it.

Both master traits. Comparing them doesn’t require any comments. By the way, even if I used shortbow as my primary weapon, I would never bother picking this trait. Seriously, 5% more damage on a hybrid weapon? It is like 2-3% total damage increase, or like 0.1% if you play condi – as many people who use it as primary weapon do.

But I still think, that buffs to warriors were a good thing. However, there a plenty of trash traits on other classes, entirely blocking them access to inventing other builds. These above were just simple examples.

So, I have tested it, and +5% damage on offhand won’t work on main hand – it will only increase offhand’s damage by 5%. That means your unload will deal 5% more damage with 2 of these sigils equipped.

“Always on” sigils stack, but I’m not sure if you get 10% damage bonus on both weapons, or 5% for each. Go to heart of the mists, talk with weapon NPC, go to second tab, pick “steady” pistols and test it on dummies – first with just one sigil, then with two of them. If auto attack deals the same damage in both cases, that means these sigils do not stack.

Interesting Point of View

It would be nice from devs to introduce more interesting rune sets, which all classes can pick and utilize. This should be easier and faster than creating new maps and game modes, but would greatly influence diversity.
Also, I will repeat it for ever, please buff garbage traits and utilities which are not used by anybody under any conditions.

Reasonable changes to downed-state

Downed state is fine, but if you totally ignore it in your build, you will find it annoying.
With my build, I can:
- self revive,
- gain shallow access to stability to stomp/revive,
- quickly revive multiple teammates in stealth,
- stomp in stealth (even camp for people who drop),
- secure stomp with black powder’s blind (both for myself and teammates around),
- stomp with shadowstep, or use shadowstep to quickly aid downed ally,
- interrupt enemy’s stomp in 7 different ways of CC,
- interrupt enemy’s revive in 6 different ways of CC.

If you had at least quarter of these tools, you would find it actually fun mechanic. All classes can improve their stomping/reviving.
I just agree, that rally on kill should be removed, because it feels so cheap for both sides.

How to counter pistol-sword thief?

If you want to counter me, consider arming yourself with elements from this list:
- high toughness,
- constant condition damage, multiple conditions at the same time to prevent their clensing,
- healing skill hard to interrupt, high regeneration,
- vigor, protection, stability and retaliation boons (this one totally wrecks me),
- ranged combat,
- blind,
- cooperation with teammates.

That means, I am almost entirely countered by condi warrior with sword/sword + longbow with rabid amulet, and also condi engineers.

… And if you want to lose:
- rely on NPCs,
- play glass cannon,
- only melee combat,
- low mobility,
- stay passive (some people just stay and drool as I pummel their beautiful faces, ignoring my high damage output and interrupts),
- long channeling skills,
- stupid dodge to close gap/run away faster or just to gain short buff (one more clone, protection, etc),
- stand in smoke field like nothing happens (I noticed rangers like to stand in these small flame fields, so I just put on top of them some smoke to make it feel more realistic).

That’s all I have on my mind now. Maybe I left something, but it’s time to sleep.

You don’t counter pistol whip with NPCs, because it hits multiple targets (3). The more mobs you have, the higher damage I deal (it also quickly restores my initiative via 15 CS trait). Killing your spirits leave you without utility slots, what means I gain great advantage. Mesmers are in bad situation aswell.

But as long as you deal damage and regenerate health, in theory you can kill me. However, it will cost you tons of focus and awarness, while I could simply faceroll you.

Hello, I was playing on my sword/pistol thief that time, and I played against some ranger on henge, exploiting pillars to LoS, so it’s like 99% chance it was me.

Since I don’t consider you a very dangerous opponent, let me show you my complete build (notice how runes work with elite and healing skill):

So, by using spirits and being around pillars to LoS you don’t have any chances. I will cleave them with auto attack and pistol whip in seconds, and hide with shadow return behind pillar if you pop some dangerous cd, like that burning field.

My weakness are constant, heavy conditions, which greatly reduce my damage output, because it takes initiative to cleanse them. Condition bombs don’t work, you need to have solid dps with them.

Another problem is stability, which greatly reduces my damage output aswell, since you are immune to stun and move out from pistol whip’s range. If I waste a few pistol whips, the only thing I can do is to hide in stealth to regain initiative, or run.

PS: so, if you don’t want to change build, I advice to either call for help, or run to another node.

AoE's breaking stealth and applying Revealed?

I can just confirm that, but I have no idea how exactly does it happen. Last time I can remember was using shadow refuge at low HP, then I got hit what activated last refuge (I was in stealth, no attacking at all), and got revealed.

There is no need for passive steal buff. However, having at least 2 useful items to steal per class would be interesting. Right now, only classes with pets have 2 items to steal, but in most cases it is useless 1 minute single stack of bleed.

Just pick perplexity runes and spam Headshot, forget about unload. Even cripple on #1 or on #2 won’t help, as the damage/survivability ratio will be still on basement level, thanks to no stealth nor shadowstep among P/P’s weapon skillset.

We are aware of this and are taking steps to mitigate this type of play.

Instead of punishing them, make cultural armors more accessible, because I won’t live long enough to acquire it, and also most armors on charr look bad (there are no good medium helms besides cultural). Grinding for 5 years is not a solution.
PS: no, I am not going to join them. Just change this bad reward system.

I have enough “competitive play” slogan. It is the reason why so little people play sPvP in GW2 – because ANet put “competitive” over “fun”.

Every class has abilities to throw enemies into pits, and everybody has access to either stability or stunbreakers. If you are too dumb to switch one utility slot before gates open (or brains level 99 – change weapon), it is only your fault, not map’s.

First time entering a dueling game in sPvP

I think the only way to win any 1v1 combat now is to use death blossom spam build (double D/D with 30 acrobatics for Quick Pockets, withdraw, caltrops, Hastened Replenishment, energy sigils, runes of Lyssa with basilisk venom for condition cleanse).
But once they realize you just can’t be facerolled like before (mainly warriors), after a few duels they will learn and you will be dead anyway. Also, necros and engineers are hard counter to it and you won’t be able to do anything.
You can also try something with S/D+D/P, but it will require very big focus from you to win, and a single mistake will kill you (as completely opposed to them).

So, if you like 1v1, reroll or wait for next patch.

Even if IS had some effect, you would’t be able to dodge it easly anyway. Not because it’s an instant cast, but also thanks to root.
If a thief breaks chain of AA, and uses LS instead of CS, he loses lots of damage for that quick boon steal.
