You can read these moves from the context of combat as Viking Jorun wrote.
Do whatever you want and don’t let them catch you, and if you have half a brain (assuming you can program at this level, you should be very smart) they won’t. Just refrain from making farming bots, because they kitten off everyone.
Stealing from engineers and using “throw gunk” will reveal you if somebody stays on it (it ticks with normal damage, not only with conditions). Sometimes I am also revealed for no reason while fighting them, without using “throw gunk” or attacking. That’s a rare bug, though.
@Void
And in this build you have big fat zero condition cleanse (maybe basilisk venom, 1 sec channeling time on 45 sec cd?). You are hard countered by necros and engineers without any chances to fight back. Other classes using condis, or with more than 1 condi removal tools will be just hard. However, it’s a very good build against newbies and people with their brains afk.
Once again – this is IMPOSSIBLE to stay competitive relying only 1 button, because it’s predictable, and being predictable is… bad. Not to mention it’s boring.
I don’t know what build you have, but anybody, even without any sustain, can regenerate from 400 dancing daggers. Also, warriors usually have -70% cripple duration (food and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dogged_March), not to mention free 3 seconds of regeneration to entirely outheal it…
Initiative is fine, you make a choice on which skill you use. Personally I use dancing dagger in S/D kit a lot, possibly the most.
1. The problem is, initiative system GREATLY reduces the number of choices.
2. Then I want to see you dueling against a warrior (or pretty much any class), using dancing dagger for 400 damage and 3 second cripple. It costs 3 ini, and it means you can’t use shadow return to escape from stun combo and cleanse one condition. And if you want to stay back and casually throw these scissors at a group of people – just use short bow’s auto attack.
This ability had it’s use before it got its damage nerfed by 50% and cripple by 2 seconds. Personally, I used it a lot against rangers for high damage and 10 sec cripple.
Now, you can only use it to finish that dude who just attempted to run away from you with 1 hp left, while your infiltrator’s strike is already activated, and weapon swap is on cd.
Yes, there might be some very rare occasions when some of them would be useful, but in 99% of fights they are just waste of ini, decreasing either your damage output or defense.
Meanwhile, other classes use their versions of “body shot” to knock us back, improved “dancing dagger” to root and apply DoT, or fixed version of “leaping death blossom” with added poison and burning. All of these things are on cd of like 7-15 seconds. I would trade it anytime.
Can you imagine greatsword warrior, who must choose between using 100blades or whirlwind attack? I can’t, but this is how S/P thief looks like.
PS: the above skills might not exist, but this is how they would look like if we had cooldowns instad of ini, without “spam tax”.
Thieves suffer from initiative system. That means, in some builds* there will be 1-3 abilities which are not worth spending initiative at all. Also, all abilities have “spam tax”, which lower their effectiveness -in case- you would spam them.
- List of abilities I wouldn’t use in certain builds.
power:
- D/D – leaping death blossom, dancing dagger
- S/P – just consumes too much ini, and you can choose between black powder (dealing zero damage) or pistol whip (getting melted)
- P/P – body shot (even if it’s supposed to help, not wort using over unload), black powder (just for stomping)
- S/D – dancing dagger
condi:
- D/D – cloak and dagger, dancing dagger, heartseeker almost never used
- P/D – body shot, shadow strike, dancing dagger (notice how cloak and dagger negates shadow strike – using only #1 and #5, winner!)
So, using these abilities in certain builds hurt more yourself than your enemy. Good weapon sets are S/D (only power), D/P (only power) and shortbow (hybrid, but rather full power).
The only suggestion I have would be removing this initiative system, change initiative to death-shroud-like stealth mode, buffing all of the abilities and giving them cooldowns. But considering amounts of work to do, this will never happen.

@Viking Jorun
If the guardian has half a brain, they will cleanse that bleed before 5 seconds expire, pull you while you are rooted in LDB animation, and at the end lock in line of warding. There exist no viable condition build with only bleeds, and our venoms are a big joke.
Also, there exist no viable build using a single button, and as LDB thief you are limited only to LDB. You can try using caltrops (30 sec cooldown), so you have 2 whooping buttons, but only mobs stay in them for over 5 seconds. It just cannot work against a competitive player, no matter how hard you try.
About bunker guardian, you won’t even touch them.
(edited by Dagins.5163)
No, in this game you can swing your weapon without needing target (both melee and ranged), have easy access to AoE, and of course have unlimitted mana to spam it.
The only interesting viable option to stealth would be death shroud mechanism. Activate it and use as long as you have -the power-, breaks on attack or when exhausted.
Yeah, evade on LDB is extremly unreliable. Multiple times, I got stunned mid-air while channeling it. Not to mention it’s very easy to waste it when somebody simply moves, and it’s entirely countered by lowest condition removal tools.
It needs to have poison on pair with bleed, and evade for full time of channeling. Otherwise, not worth effort. Only good against clueless people, but against them everything is sufficient.
Just make venoms like ranger’s spirits, with exception you don’t summon any mobs, and it doesn’t benefit teammates around you (venom share would make it).
They should start with unbinding stats from traits. I would love to play with other trait lines, but their stats are useless to me. For example, it’s possible to have 30% crit damage bonus with 4% crit chance, which is just stupid. Or 300 condition damage in full power build, without a single damaging condi ability.
Also, there are still useless traits which are never picked, because they serve totally no purpose.
But majority of community loves this map in solo que.
DD used to apply cripple x2 when struck the same target two times (10 seconds), not to mention dealing 50% more damage. It needs some buffs to single target, because right now, this skill has no use. It’s only medicore when it comes to combo fields spam.
http://guildwars2roleplayers.com/forum/m/2737230
PS: roleplay servers are: Piken Square (Europe) and Tarnished Coast (USA).
but what if you use an attack that hits multiple targets at once and you bring them to under 50% HP simultaneously?
It will immobilize either your main target, or an enemy who is closest to you.
It doesn’t need any buffs. It’s a perfect elite skill for glass cannon D/D build, for jumping in and finishing someone within seconds. Better add more elites instead of changing this skill. Or fix other venoms and traps to make them worth using, because 3 second chill on 45 second cooldown doesn’t sound fair.
@Scoobaniec.9561
And what if a norn stands up on their toes?
No, this is how things look: http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/backend/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/GuildWars2Heights.png
As someone before me said, norn are much stronger than charr and can defeat multiple of them solo at the same time, but they make somehow poor army, as they are individualists.
I’m curious as well! Is there a possibility that you’re experiencing heavy latency? The skill itself has about a quarter second cast time (and cancels other skills that are already casting).
Headshot doesn’t cancel ,,aftercast" of auto-attack and simply waits till it ends. Aftercast of pistol #1 is long, but also dagger and sword’s 3rd stage of #1 are aswell. That means, Headshot goes into ,,skill queue", and if you are unlucky, it can reach over 1 second of channeling.
Me and some other players have reported it a couple of times months ago (I even wrote a long post), but nobody from devs answered.
@up
Interrupt skills aren’t meant to deal big damage. Also, imagine shooting somebody into a steel helm with an old pistol. That doesn’t do any damage, and just ricochets
(edited by Dagins.5163)
No, it was a response to the film about using planks to throw people off cliffs. You can use your food, but many funny and useful gadgets got banned.
Ban of consumables in WvW was so lame and disrespectful for the communty. It’s not like we don’t know what is fun for us.
Now, we have only scorpion wire and charrzooka.
Yeah, times when sap and blind where actually useful were great. Also, opening treasure chests by lock picking were a small thing, but gave the right feeling of playing the class. Not to mention sneaking inside enemy cities (till Blizzard officialy ruined it).
In fact, we don’t need any torches, sniper rifles or whips. We could use some axes and maces, but that’s all. What we need is more skills on weapons to choose, like utilities. Being forced to use certain skills is boring. Also, it would be great to have stealth versions on all of weapon skills, not only #1, just for the sake of diversity.
If we had stealth working similar to necro’s death shroud, I would say GW2 thief is better than WoW’s rogue (up to WotLK, Cata and Pandas are terrible expansions). Stealth in GW2 is disappointing.
We don’t need just new healing skills, we need more skills in general. This counts in new weapon skills to choose. Some weapon skills are just stupid, for example thief’s pistol/postol, where you have full condi auto-attack, and full power burst skill. It should be possible to go either full power or full condi, changing these skills like utilities.
Another argument, this stagnation is simply boring.
D/D is only good for full glass cannon 30/30/… with mug+basilisk venom+c&d+backstab combo. Mug got seriously nerfed, but steal range in trickery got buffed. Don’t play with death blossom, it’s a waste of initiative even after buff, maybe in PvE it has any use.
Trap – a smart mechanism prepared even days before to seriously cripple a prey.
If we want traps to be enjoyable, they must work this way, not lame pulsing on the ground or regenerating. Just plant, and upon activation leave an unremovable debuff (example – impale) for like 30 seconds.
This game’s performance level is below terrible on some machines. I can play Battlefield 3 on high settings on 32vs32 maps, but I can’t play GW2 on lowest in WvW. Sadly, programers failed their jobs at optimisation, but the game is worth its price anyway.
PS: I have intel quad cpu and ati gpu.
Traps just need long planting time (not shorter than 5 seconds) to prevent putting them on top of enemies, and simply hit harder. Maybe even make a rule – the longer you plant a trap, the harder it will hit. Also, they need to be dodge proof (ambush and shadow are already).
Unite under the Red Banner, comrades! Death to bourgeoisie!

Today, I got revealed randomly twice in the same match without flame blast, so it must be something else. Mesmer jumped on me with sword combo. It looked like last refuge revealed me somehow after stealthing with C&D. No, it didin’t interrupt me in the middle of swing animation, I was already stealthed for 2 seconds.
Now I know why I get revealed randomly.
You are right, comrade! Everybody should be equal!

Consuming an elixir and shrinking yourself or transforming into something is classified as a form of magic.
@Gnat.9405
I miss my cheap mace stun build from WoW… and that sound of making furniture while pummeling someone in their face.
All weapons and armors should be available to everyone, like it will be in Elder Scrolls Online.
If you want to be a thief fighting with a spoon, you should be able to become a ginosaji. I don’t like weapon restrictions in this game.
@up
Engineers use elixirs, which are ,,fluid magic".
(edited by Dagins.5163)
Are you aware, that you should put basilisk venom on your weapon instead of drinking it?
Don’t forget pets, minions and clones blocking projectiles, and even melee attacks. They are like mobile meat shields, easy to rebuild, absorbing big amounts of damage.
If you manage to refresh cooldown on caltrolps, you can stack AoE 25 bleeding without doing anything.
Good troll attempt, many people got confused. You have my +1.
Einlanzer.1627
P/P is the opposite of D/D.
You have condition based auto attack, condition duration #2, while unload is for power/crit against light armored or seriously damaged targets, just like LDB from D/D is for tough enemies.
You can pick P/P with 30 deadly arts for condi duration + some power, and 30 critical strikes for awesome ini regen from crits and overall best traits for P/P.
P/P is good with condition duration stat. Don’t play it with power, unless you use it in PvP as a secondary weapon set just for unload to finish low hp fleeing enemies, with executioner + pistol mastery + side strike traits. This combo really hurts.
it’s a bit a ridiculous, all i want are the cultural skins unlocked
Yeah, they could make it like in Battlefield 3. You can unlock all weapons and equipment fairly easy, but reaching max rank takes a lot of time and effort, but there are no unlocks, just showing how big pro (read – no life) you are. There are also achievements for new weapon unlocks every next expansion pack.
In GW2, you would need at least 3-4 years of regular grinding to get cultural skins, what is just unreal.
Lyssas.1586
Right now you win solo against 2 or more opponents because you are more skilled than they are, and you have some stomping tricks like stability, stealth, shadowsteps, blinds, haste, or invulnerability.
What is wrong with it?
Would you rather faceroll them instead with your eyes closed?
Downed state:
- interrupts the natural pace and flow of combat
- does not spectate well
- is not fun
- precludes skilled 1v2, 1v3 victories
- turns a close 4v4/3v3/2v2s into a whitewash because of ridiculous rally mechanics
- promotes instagibbing
- introduces imbalances that wouldn’t otherwise exist
DS should at least be an option on custom arenas. I’m willing to bet that DS-disabled arenas would be more popular than default.
- There is no such a thing like natural pace and flow of combat.
- What?
- Maybe for people who are unable to utilize it correctly.
- You can pick traits, abilities, and weapons to secure even 90% of your stomps.
- I agree, rally mechanics should be removed, both in PvE and PvP.
- Downed state is designed to prevent instagibbing with power/crit, and it works very well.
- Every single ability and weapon in any game makes potential imbalances. If you don’t like to have many skills to chose from, don’t play MMOs, play chess online instead.
PS: yes, disabling downed state for private arenas should be allowed.
Music (mute video, pick random) → http://www.pown.it/3543
Might be fun to play in WvW, but has no chance in sPvP. Low condition removal would kill me.
@up
Yes, it can immobilize up to 5 enemies, but good luck catching them all in a tiny rectangular range, when it’s a challenge even against a single opponent. Illusions, pets and random evades make thief’s traps very unreliable. The only traps that are pet/dodge/illusion proof are ambush (poor in PvP,) and shadow.
PS: in PvE, only ambush trap is worth attention, and only when you can protect the summoned thief with smoke field from #5 pistol skill, so they won’t die from a few blows.
PS2: Also, when somebody steps over your needle or tripwire traps, your stealth is broken with revealed debuff.
(edited by Dagins.5163)
It is just a proof how devs care about thief’s traps.
If I think about traps, I imagine a smart simple mechanism prepared even days ago to seriously cripple an unsuspecting foe.
However, in this game, traps are only any useful when placed immediately, directly under your foe’s feets. This is why only rangers use them – they are activated in circles, not lines, so it’s easy to abuse them.
The only thief’s trap which can be considered any useful is shadow trap, as it serves its purpose of guarding nodes in sPvP.

Hello.
Probably there exist no charr only guild, which focuses only on WvW.
However, there are many charr only guilds.
Examples:
http://shattersteel.enjin.com/
http://icewarband.enjin.com/
Pozdrawiam.
