Here’s how it looks on my sylvari.
Looks awesome on your sylvari, particularly with the ear muffs!
Considering the large AoE radius of the staff, it’s actually potentially one of the highest DPS weapons for a guardian, even though it has a very low single target DPS. And in group events where there’s tons of mobs…it can be a good weapon to use.
Any reason behind this? Seems strange since these are the perfect gift for a friend due to their seasonality and low cost.
=/
(p.s., I would have posted this in the Black Lion section, but apparently you can’t make threads there anymore)
Nope. I have an active guild where I can always find something to do. Even when I don’t have any specific goals for myself, there’s always friends who are working towards something and things like dungeons are always better with people you know. Beyond that, I also never get tired of PvP.
It sounds like you either 1) an active community to get you engaged 2) another game which can engage you to go through the content regardless of your goals or 3) another game with a fresh set of goals to aim for.
Take your time if you go away from GW2. You can always come back later when the game feels fresh again.

I’d say either AH Bunker Guard or Shoutbow War. Engis can be good for side points, but lack the stability to compete with guard/war.
Warrior or Guard would be my two recommendations.
Yea…I’m back…it’s happening again.

This guy.

So…flushed the DNS and no dice. Stuck at 0 kb/s.

I would say that the people who can monitor player preference by pulling actual data directly from the game, measuring every single individual player’s behavior, have a more accurate understanding of what the player base wants than us, who only really see the angst-filled posts on the forums.
Well…you can already use them that way. =P
You just can’t make any changes to the game type if the owner isn’t online, which is a bummer
…I’m loving the PvP changes.
Now, I know, saying anything positive about things ANet has done (especially if it’s a new change) is pretty taboo around here, but the queue and matchmaking changes have really made PvP so much more enjoyable for me.
Thanks ANet. =)
Ok, it’s loading for me now….not super fast, but at least it’s at the screen with the download bar for the patch.
Still loading…bar is between 60-120 kb/sec…
Loading bar is running super slow…about 60kb/sec.

Yea…it’s because they haven’t really updated the winter’s day stuff. This has been one of the few grievances that I’ve had since the game first released (special PvP-like events not allowing players to join together) that hasn’t been fully addressed. Fortunately sPvP now fully allows players to join together. Hopefully it’s a matter of time for holiday events to catch up.
I posted on the other thread about this already, but I’m in the MN area with Comcast and am experiencing the same thing.
I followed the steps to flush the DNS from the link provided, but it did not resolve the issue.
MN area here with Comcast. Seems like lots of central states here…
Same here. Add my name to the list. =P
Any chance we could get a guild-based ownership option on custom arenas? This would solve the issue of settings only being accessible by a single individual who may or may not be online.
Just shy of 3k hours. Played since beta. My partner who plays right beside me has also played since beta and neither of us have ever seen a precursor drop.
Has the number of concurrent players in hot join reduced?
Yes…but you know what? The reduced population is largely players who just joined for a few minutes before dropping into a queued game, so the overall effect is largely a more balanced hot join experience.
Does anyone know if assassin amulet is ever used in Panic Strike builds? I would think that the higher crit from that item could be more advantageous in a build that has a low trait investment to the crit tree.
Is it a coincidence that the PvP designers have relaxed the matchmaking, favoring team formation and strongly hurting the solo experience?
Yes. We do not intend to ruin the experience for people that queue solo. Matchmaking was relaxed overnight because I would not be available to monitor the servers to prevent queue times from growing too large.
Ever thought of just sending out a mass mail to people that enter the PvP lobby explaining stuff like this? You could just say something like:
“The PvP devs will be busy with the holidays and have adjusted the PvP queues so that they err on the side of low queues for now. This may result in a larger discrepancy in matchmaking, but you will be seeing improvements there shortly. Thank you for your understanding – ArenaNet”
And even though people won’t like to hear that you’re not monitoring everything 24/7 without taking a break, it’s better than having people think that you just don’t know what you’re doing…and at the same time, it helps build the relationship between player and dev a bit as well.
Either way, thank you for taking the time to keep track on things during your busy time. Happy holidays!
So, here’s the thing…
With any PvP queue in any game, you have to balance fitting the perfect player into the perfect team vs keeping the queue times short.
Until we get a larger playerbase in PvP, you’re going to see a big discrepancy either in quality of matchup or length of queue.
You’re judging the new system by 10 games…there’s your problem.
OP is off his rocker. GW2 is the AAA mmo and even if it wasn’t the team still deserves to have time off for the holidays.
So devs, go chill and enjoy good cheer with the people important to you. There will be plenty of us impatient players here chomping at the bits for all the good stuff you come out with when ya get back!
Yea, there’s still a chance for the map only 1 person voted on to get chosen…but I think that’s a good design.
I wouldn’t change a thing about the map voting system…except maybe for some maps available to be voted on, lol.
At the end of the day, people still DC, get rage, or just have things come up irl that take them away from the game. Even when dishonor gets released, this will still happen.
Why is this happening to you more? Probably just bad luck. Your chance of getting into a group where someone DCs/rages/afks/etc. is still a chance out of a probability…and if you flip a coin 10 times, it’s still possible to get heads 10 times in a row.
Personally, I’ve seen a decent bit less 4 v 5 games and even hotjoin practice seems to be balanced better.
And kitten , I know about the block/ignore option, but as others have already said, that’s hardly the fix needed for what’s going on.
Yeah, exactly. The bully/troll will move on to victimize someone else. The bully/troll does not stop their behavior.
I’m sorry but I’m not someone who can “just ignore it” when I get a PM telling me “go kill myself.” Call me a kitten, call me a care bear, I honestly don’t care. That kind of stuff really upsets me for very personal reasons, and I know for a fact that it upsets a lot of other people, too. Why should we get shoved off to the side to protect egomaniacs who get their rocks off on hurting others?
i honestly feel bad for your generation (im not being mean in any sense), you guys/gals were not taught how to cope or deal with bullies.
and i agree with you that the behavior is bad and should be dealt with. but thats why you report them and ignore them otherwise. if enough people report an individual then the devs should take action.also i know this is lame as hell but really it is true on so many levels.
“sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”
especially when they are typed words from someone who knows absolutely nothing about you.
I must have missed where this person said how old they were (sarcasm), but this isn’t an issue of people not being able to tolerate bullying. This is an issue of people willing to stand up and speak against it.
Blame my generation (if you can even guess it), but my ability to tolerate bullying has no relevance on my understanding that it’s still a crappy thing to do.
So please, blame the bully, not the victim.
@ People saying “The community is worse in X and Y game”: This is a pretty meaningless and irrelevant argument. If I see someone bludgeon a baby to death in the street, does it suddenly make it acceptable to break someone’s leg?
GW2 does have a better community than many other games out there, but that doesn’t suddenly justify the minority of players that still treat it like 4Chan.
If you want a build that brings good support for a pug, look at the Fractal Hammer build:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Fractal_Hammer
If you don’t feel comfortable in zerker armor, use Knights or Soldiers if you reeeaaaally want to be super tanky.
But I would very, very strongly recommend against something like Clerics or Zealot. The DPS loss is really massive and healing scales very badly, so you’ll go from supporting a pug to being the side of the pug that needs to be supported.
It’s funny how ArenaNet makes it so you can’t FGS anymore and instead give that ability to the teragriffs. Run in place, some 15 packets of damage per second, yeah…. nice way to stick it to the players lol. This is what we call irony :P
Only if you play with the same level of AI as enemies in dungeons, lol.
So, overall, I’ve liked the PvP changes. Some serious tweaking still needs to occur to keep ranked match queue times reasonable, although I think that’s more a result of few people attempting ranked matches than anything else.
However…the one down side of having to sit in the mists while waiting for a queue to pop is largely the community. I mean, you see terrible stuff in just about any map chat, but it always seems to be the worst here. Since the PvP community tends to be the #1 reason more people don’t PvP, is there anything we can have done about this? Maybe have some degree of mod watching over the chats in these zones?
And can we get a fix to everyone being able to use the target ability outside of parties?
Thanks.
The grass is always greener on the pasture of an MMO that has little released beyond a feature list…
Can you guys write a script to change matchmaking variables at set intervals based on number of players queuing or something?
It isn’t just a matter of how many players are queuing, it’s how many are queuing within your skill range.
Just bring back the old match making system. Is it that hard? The new system is obviously not gonna work if there’s like only 1k players that actively play spvp.
So glad people like you aren’t in charge of running this game, lol.
If you want great things in a game, you have to be willing to try things that aren’t easy and stick with them until they work.
As much as I’m glad to see a different type of JP, I hated this one.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate all of it. The scenery was beautiful and the marker system was great….
But the thing felt like it was more of a test in patience to find the right skritt holes near the end than it was a test of jumping. After constantly getting ported way back from taking the wrong skritt hole, I gave up on this one last night. Sure, I could have just followed a guide and spent my time playing Dulfy.net instead of GW2, but that would have been pretty lame since so few of the jumps really had any challenge.
Bleh…
Shelter is pretty awesome, but in some settings (PvE), I think Healing Breeze is often underrated.
Fyi for people out there queueing for PvP: If you get the window pop to join a game (the one where you confirm before you choose a map), don’t open any windows, at least until you click accept.
I had a queue pop right as I was opening the hero window and it caused the accept window to disappear with no way to bring it back (even if you open the sPvP menu, it doesn’t come back), which pushed me back in queue.
And yes, I opened a ticket for this. =P
I’m saying that your opinion fails to take in the full scope of the situation adequately. I am not calling you selfish, nor am I intending to jump to any other personal assessment of you as an individual.
@ Chase: Character swapping is no longer allowed for good reason.
This Zerker meta has to end. It has killed the diversity too long. This game has such a unique build system, and you should truly be able to play how you want. However, unless you have a pre made, then people will kick you. Start building your toon the way you want to!
Ok, so how do you fix it?
It’s one thing to say “I don’t like this”, but finding a solution to address that concern which doesn’t present even greater problems is something you should consider if you expect anything to change.
I like the map when I’m with a group of friends doing a custom match.
I like the map when I’m running a build that’s designed for a giant face mash deathmatch on a tiny map.
I don’t like the map when I’m trying to queue for a conquest game.
I don’t like the map when I’m running a build that’s suited for every other sPvP map in the game.
Then blame your ISP, not ANet. Because if you think you should be able to get full points for DCing a game, then coming back, there’s suddenly incentive for people to do this as an exploit and there’s less incentive for people to get their connection issues resolved as best as they can.
So please, take your head out of your own personal perspective for 2 seconds and realize that your bad connection hurts 4 other people more than it hurts yourself.
Maybe you didn’t get the part where I had a sudden dc and came back straight away. I’ve only mentioned it on just about every single post I’ve made in this thread. Try reading before bashing.
Also, several other games seem to come up with solutions that don’t penalize the player for a minimal failure in connection where the player returns straight away, so maybe there’s room for improvement on Anets’ system?+1
Don’t play GW2 at your local library or at Starbucks.
This isn’t the 90s, we are 20 years past the 90s the dial up era. Present day, up to what? 50GB connections now? Crazyness.I have two personal connections, at my house. And speed barely has nothing to do with the stability of the connection, although it will improve ping up to a point, where the rest is influenced on what the ISP has bought/hired in infrastructure on its network.
If you’re going to bash someone, at least try to understand what you’re talking about. As for the rest, read my reply to Dahkeus.
Yea, I read what you said. It’s sad that you can’t get a better connection, but that doesn’t mean that the game should suddenly revolve around you. There are other people who have the potential to get a good connection and either don’t bother to make the effort and there are people that use disconnects to their advantage as well.
If you disconnect once in a blue moon, then the point loss is minimal, but if it happens regularly, then unfortunately, you just don’t meet the requirements for what this game needs to run as it should.
Meanwhile, when you DC, you lose some points for the match. The four other people on your team likely lose the entire match.
So please, take your head out of your own personal perspective for 2 seconds and realize that your bad connection hurts 4 other people more than it hurts yourself.
@ Chase: We’re not advocating for punishment for people with bad connections. We advocate for punishment to people that abuse their connection or neglect it at the expense of other players. In a perfect world, we could tell when a innocent dc happened and not attribute any punishment, but there’s no way to tell when that happens and when it’s just someone pulling the cord out of their modem because they’re raging.

I love everything about the PvP update with this patch…except for courtyard.
It’s a nice map for friends to mess around in, but it just doesn’t work for real queued games.
If ANet really wants to make deathmatch a decent, playable PvP game, then they have to change the game to be more like Arenas in WoW where the game ends when your party wipes instead of the 500 point system where you’ve pretty much lost after the first wipe, but still have to sit through a lopsided game until your team gets heavily farmed enough to fully lose.
Not every game is like this, of course, but it’s waaay too common.
Any way to fix this?
Sure, talk to your ISP and get your connection fixed so you don’t DC and leave the rest of us short-handed when you end up on our team.
How many more threads do people need to make about this? There are plenty already.
Maybe there are a lot of posts to this topic but more or less is just a discussion about if someone is missing this set or not. ;-)
I would like to know something new, or support other players who want the set back into the game.
My ele is very happy about 99.99% of the playerbase not being able to copy his look.
I’m able to…but I don’t think I’d want to, hehe
Two things I’m thankful for this holiday season:
1) OP got rid of that annoying “hi frands” wannabe cartoon talk.
2) OP does not work at ANet is not actually in charge of balance.
Players seem to always want such radical nerfs and balance changes when they forget how such subtle changes moved certain classes from being one of the worst classes to one of the best in sPvP (ex: Elementalists).
While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s an instant loss, I do agree that thieves don’t seem to stack as well as most classes. But, you never really want a team that’s full of just 1 class anyways. =P
