Fun Fact: the mursaat enslaved the Asura who worked for them

Can you give a source for that? I never heard about that before.

yeah i cant find the source.. lol

Don’t know about enslaving them, but we know that the Inquest have a vested interest in Mursaat technologies and magic, as evidenced by Arah path 2. Also note that the Inquest have been every bit as much ‘the adversary’ as the Mordrem thus far. So it’s not that much a stretch to think there could be some Mursaat involvement going forward.

Completely scrap Last Refuge. Make Assassin’s Equilibrium the Shadow Arts 1-point minor. Make a completely new Acro GM trait that’s worth using.

[Skill Bar] Thief preview changes

Panic Strike: Reduced immobilize from 5 seconds to 2.5 second, reduced CD from 30 to 20 seconds.

Panic Strike is a thing? Not too terrible a change I suppose, 5s is a long immobilize. If they’re cutting the duration in half though, would have made sense to cut the cooldown in half. So, nerf to a little-used trait.

Invigorating Precision: Increase healing % based on damage from 5 to 8%

And still no one with 6 in CS will ever use this over Executioner or Hidden Killer.

Ricochet: Now also increases range to 1050, along with a few bug fixes to make it hit more reliably.

Before, Thieves are the only class without a 1200 range weapon. So now, we have to use a trait for it and we’re -still- the only class without a 1200 range weapon. Why the kitten did they not buff it up to 1200?

Assassin’s Equilibrium: Increase stability from 1 to 1.5 seconds

Useless trait before, still every bit as useless after.

Venomous Aura, Allies will now use the thief’s condi damage and healing when applying the venoms.

Good change I guess, for a very niche trait.

Dagger 1 Combo will now hit max 2 targets, Posion will stack, but not the endurance gain.

Suppose I can get behind this, though I was fine with sword being our ‘cleave’ weapon. So it’s a buff, but not really one that was needed nor wanted.

Pistol 5 Black Powder: will now pulse every 2 seconds for 4 seconds instead of 1 second for 4, and the aoe blind has been reduced from 3 seconds to 2 seconds per pulse.

And you’ve just destroyed PvE’s only defensive skill.

P/P Unload: cast time as been reduced from 1 3/4 seconds to 1 1/2, also applies to your summon thieves as well.

Doesn’t affect the underlying problem of a power/crit based skill in a condition based weaponset.

Short-bow 4 Choking gas: now delivers a strike when it lands.

Don’t really see why this was necessary, but I suppose I’m not devastated about it.

S/D Flanking strike: initiative cost increase from 3 to 4, and now requires to hit before it can combo into Larcenous Strike,

S/D Larcenous Strike: Initiative cost reduced from 2 to 1

I don’t do S/D much, but I can see why this would be a hassle to thieves who do. It’s a tough build to use effectively, this just makes it tougher.

So basically, there was a nerf to the only PvE defensive skill, a bunch of worthless buffs to worthless skills or traits, and a few nerfs/buffs that don’t really accomplish anything. Meanwhile, Mug still breaks steal-on-stealth, we still have almost no condition cleaning outside of gimmicky stealth builds, and Last Refuge is still a thing.

Summary? Devs still don’t have a clue and/or kitten about thieves.

The vine will never be as useful as the spinal blades if it doesn’t let you choose stats. It’s not inconceivable that a future evolution will let us do that, but the spinal blades had that option from the start, so I’m not getting my hopes up that the vine will ever have anything other than Nomad stats.

Unless you really want those Nomad backpieces, 1 of these should be plenty, to gain access to the skin, like Seras above me said.

This. If we can select the stats once it reaches ascended, then yes, it might be worth making several of them. But if it’s going to be stuck at Nomad, then it’s only worth the skin(s).

….Which goes against everything we know of dragon corruption, minions, their link to their dragons, etc.

By that logic, you could do the same with Branded Devourer eggs, Destroyer eggs, any Risen spider eggs, and they’d no longer be evil and want to kill you.

So, we didn’t need this Forgotten ritual that they used on Glint, we could’ve just fed the minions special time gated food and incubated it in a magical pot?

Maybe that’s exactly what we need. After all, what does the Forgotten ritual actually entail besides splitting up into a couple different blue circles? Perhaps the NPC actually performing it isn’t doing anything but sending hugs, cuddles, and happy thoughts to that undead chicken and that’s what cures it.

Braham and Eir's "Reconciliation"

Dakota.4591

I think I may have stressed my emphasis in the original post on the wrong part.
If Eir is going to whoop out the bad-kitten enough for her son to do almost a complete 180 on his opinion of her, then you have to do something to show that bad-kitten .
In this missions, after I stormed in the front door and killed everything that moved to destroyed the totem, afterwards they snuck in the back. So not only is that hardly bad-kitten , but it was enough to make Braham go all googly eyed? No, ANet, you’re not allowed to do that.

Say what you want about Braham. but this is a guy who was there at the defense of Lion’s arch killing Scarlet’s legions en masse, broke onto her airship and helped us fight that big hologram battle. And he’s in complete awe over his mom killing two or three svanirs as they snuck in the back of some little outpost in the middle of nowhere?

No, ANet, you can’t do that.

Mordremoth's play on her grief?

in Living World

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

No. Nothing so far gives conclusive evidence of that While I think Mordremoth could be connected to the Nightmare, nothing so far indicates that the Pale Tree is a former champion of his. Anyone trying to suggest as such then has to answer:

How the the Pale Tree’s seed/other seed get purified? The Forgotten are the only ones so far who knew how to so such a thing, and along with uncorrupted artifacts, could also have had a hand in making the seeds long ago, or possibly purified them way back, though this would not explain why they weren’t guarding the seeds instead.

The Mysterious Vine backpiece’s flavor text has your answer:

This vine, while appearing to be touched by Mordremoth, has been grown from seed under the good influence of a hero of Tyria.

Pretty much confirms what a lot of us have suspected for a year or more, that the Pale Tree is a champion of Mordremoth that was purified because of Ventari’s influence while it was growing.

Consider the flavor text of the new Mysterious Vine backpiece.

“This vine, while appearing to be touched by Mordremoth, has been grown from seed under the good influence of a hero of Tyria.”

If you replace “hero of Tyria” with Ventari’s name, that’s pretty much exactly how the Pale Tree came about.

Is ANet laying the groundwork to finally settle the question for everyone who still thinks that the Pale Tree (and thus the rest of the Sylvari players) isn’t a ‘purified’ champion of Mordremoth?

My pet peeve with it was that when Scruffy was following you, he would always stop -JUST- outside of speaking range. If you could just hit F and switch his modes in the middle of combat, that’d be fine, but he always stops somewhere you have to stop, turn around, look for him and move to him to switch him in defend mode. Too much effort, thus I did what most people did and just kill everything myself without him.

The only time I used defend mode was when I tried to solo the achievement where you have to kill two traps in two seperate places, hoping he would at least keep the assassin occupied while I killed the door. Yeah, that didn’t work out. Making Scruffy even more useless.

And one last but very important thing ………………..
Who the heck had the idea with clicking through chat boxes to have conversations ?
I mean the personal story screens with 2 people talk to each other weren’t really great
but simply clicking through a text box ? Really ?

Probably has to do with the availability of voice actors. Notice how when Rytlok and Rox have a conversation between just the two of them, the conversation is voiced. But when the player becomes involved in the conversation, it switches to the chat box. I’m guessing they can’t get ahold of some of the voice actors who voiced the PCs to record the dialogue. As far as I know, there hasn’t been any new ‘voiced content’ for the PCs since the initial release.

Braham and Eir's "Reconciliation"

in Living World

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

The process of swaying these leaders to attend the summit, if they didn’t want to, should have had entire installments dedicated to them. Convincing Whitebeard to get on board should have been an it’s own release. By cramming them all into one release, all of them felt flat. There was no organic growth with any of the characters involved. Things went from “no” to “yes” with the flip of a switch. That’s not good writing.

While I agree how flat it feels, I prefer the way it was handled to the alternative of having separate releases for each leader. Having to spend the next two month’s worth of releases working on this issue would have been soul-crushing padding and timewasting. As you yourself said, all these tasks could have easily been handled internally. As much of a time-waste it is for two weeks, imagine how it would have felt after two months.

Braham and Eir's "Reconciliation"

in Living World

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

I dunno, it just bugs me how the Frostgorge part of this episode was handled from a storytelling perspective. Eir sends you to Frostgorge to attack a Svarnir stronghold from one side, while she and Braham do the other.
So you go in (assuming that you get a Breaking the Ice chain that isn’t bugged to hell and back), finish the chain and enter the instance.
Braham and Eir run in, with Braham gushing about how amazing and awesome and cool that Eir was and this leads to some sort of reconciliation between the two of them.

This just strikes me as really terrible writing, even in comparison with much of the rest of the living story. Braham’s animosities towards his mother was one of his only defining character attributes, and to have it resolved through a bunch of stuff that happened offscreen? If the Breaking the Ice chain had happened in an instance where you can actually see Eir kick kitten , that I could understand. But this just seems like a terribly written cop-out, to have one of the Biconic’s motivations be resolved offscreen like that. It would be like Rox showing up saying “Yeah, I did a bunch of awesome and cool stuff you didn’t see and I’ve taken over leading Rytlok’s warband” or Taimi showing up and saying “Yeah, I did a bunch of awesome and cool stuff you didn’t see and now my legs work”.

Whatever technical limitations that may or may have not been there, it takes some pretty good writing and storytelling to make an “Offscreen Moment of Awesome” work, and this is writing and storytelling that ANet’s writers do not possess.

It’s not I just did it. You’re probly doing something wrong, you need to save the npcs before you get to Goldenlight Hallow and after you’ve rescued the magister.

I did exactly this but it still bugged out on me. After I rescued the Magister I went straight to the three soldiers nearby, killed the monsters, clicked the three of them. But when I went to the next soldier the achievement icon disappeared. I never got near the lab located at the end of the quest.

Sounds like one of the NPCs you hadn’t rescued yet died.

World PvP server social experiment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

Interesting concept, couple halfway decent ideas.

So here’s a fun little game design/social experiment the dev team could tackel this week:

In a week? BWAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.
Seriously, awesome joke to start off the thread with.

  • Create a new server (not tied to WvW or EoTM) on NA and EU
  • Integrate WvW map mechanics into the cities/forts/villages throughout Tyria. (suggestions on how to do this included below)
  • Tie objectives to Guilds rather than servers (eg; “blahblah” guild captures The black citadel).
  • turn on world PvP. (Skills do damage to all players outside guild/party). -make a toggle to turn the damage to other players off if you can do it in less than 30 minutes. If not then skipit. It’s not that important for this to work.
  • turn on triple exp boost for dynamic events and hearts (to leverage incentive of leveling in open world PvP)
  • Capping objectives for the guild yields Guild exp for the guild + normal exp/gold/ascended mats for individuals.

All decent ideas.

  • If a guild captures all the objectives within a zone at same time, the bosses get that invincibility buff and the guild gains control of the zone for 24 hours and receives all gold from NPC transactions + matched guild exp for all exp earned by people playing dynamic events and hearts within the zone during this time period. (people will flock to the locked out zones to level and avoid zergs).

Nah. Getting all gold from NPC transations is a weird balance of stupid OP in theory and useless in practice (Aside from salvage kits and harvesting tools, how often do people buy things from NPCs outside of cities?)

  • Lions arch is safe zone, all Guards attack players they see pvping. -don’t change anything about guards, just put that into their script and give them a respawn timer +downed state.

I’d rather see all six major cities be safe zones. Additionally, instead of guards attack players they see PVPing, just disable pvp in those zones.

Dakota.4591

There was some other game I was playing some years back, don’t remember which, where you could marry certain NPCs, including same-sex ones. When asked about this, one of the developers replied that the world in which they live in is a violent, chaotic, short-lived world where your life could end at any moment from a dragon swooping down onto your villiage. In such a world, people saw same-sex marriages as no big deal because it meant spending what little time you had with whoever you chose.

I would imagine it’s something similiar in the GW2 world. Unless you’re part of some royal family who requires a bloodline heir, there’s too much other stuff in the world actively trying to kill you than to worry about the gender-pairings in someone else’s relationship.

It’s still in the game, it’s still part of character creation, and it’s still modified by your responses to the city-speed-buff NPCs and some others. It’s still in the game, the graph that displayed it is gone, which I think was an unintended side-effect of changing the hero window.
Hasn’t been addressed or fixed probably because, as others mentioned here, it wasn’t ever fully developed to begin with and has absolutely no difference in the functionality of the game.

Mystic Forge and Transmuted Items Question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Pretty sure you can’t. A lot of upgradeable items have the “This item can’t be upgraded if transmuted” flag on them, and initially this flag was put on specifically because of the Fractal Capacitor, and how it had no such warning yet still couldn’t be upgraded if transmuted.

Now, no idea if this was changed, or if the change to the wardrobe system fixed this and made it redundant. But to play it safe, keep the beta capacitor until you upgrade it to the full Fractal Capacitor, unlock the glowy skin, then put the desert rose on it.

Glad that I’m not the only one who was bugged by this. Four of the six elder dragons were well known in-game, the remaining two (the deep see dragon and the jungle dragon) were mysteries. The only reason that we the players know is because of a combat window in a specific dungeon that kinda gave it away, but there’s no real in-character way anyone could have or would have known. Would have been better revealed from a translation on some newfound jotun monument, or some other corrupted sylvari saying “Mordremoth will destroy you all” with his dying breath, or something like that.

They needed -some- sort of term for the voice actors to refer to the player as.
Commander? None of them are members of the pact, they’d have no reason to call you that.
Snaff Savant/Legionnaire/other race-specifc PS story title? Perhaps, but Taimi probably wouldn’t be calling me Legionnaire as she wouldn’t know nor care what charr titles are. Not to mention that’s ten different recordings for each piece of audio rather than two (male and female).
Magister/Lightbringer/Vigil title? Perhaps, but the same problem as above.

As for “Friend”? Rox would be the only one of them I’d want to be friends with. While I like Taimi, we’re more her babysitter than friend, Brahm’s a boring “BRAHM SMASH!” character, and Marjory and Kasmeer spend so much time reminding us they’re a couple that people have literally died because of their banter.

So, yeah. “Boss” might not be the best choice out there, but I can’t think of a better one off the top of my head, so it doesn’t bug me.

How Would You Change the Zhaitan Encounter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

Event procedes as normal during the “Defend Zojja while she powers the megalaser” phase, only the enemies are tuned up so that it’s more challenging, as currently your party can run off to the side and let the NPCs take care of them.

Cutscene of the megalaser cutting his tail off, he destroys the megalaser.

Event where you have to charge up five harpoon cannons a la dredge fractal, only less annoying. Each cannon takes about 10-15 seconds of not being hit to charge up, group can defend the guy charging or they can try to charge all five at once and hope to not get hit.

Once charged, harpoons go off, latch onto Zhaitan, and pull the airship up alongside him. One of his mini-heads curls around and bombs the deck with AEs, players have to fight and kill it world-boss style.

Once it’s dead, zhaitan pulls away and it cuts to the current cutscene of the harpoons ripping pieces of him off as he limps to his tower. Event proceeeds as it currently is during the aproach to the tower.

During the current “22222” phase, it’s NPCs who instead man the cannons to shoot at him, not the players. AEs and enemies continue to spawn, players must keep the NPCs alive. They can be rezzed if they die, but the more that are down, the slower they kill him, similiar to Claw of Jormag P1.

Once done, Zhaitan instead of falling down dead, leaps from the tower, onto the airship, crashing it to the ground. Party wakes up, burning destruction everywhere, Zhaitan pinned down under the rubble but still alive. A megalaser from another crashed airship is intact, Zojja needs time to fix it. Players charge Zhaitan head on and actually fight him. After either a timer or a health bar, laser gets fixed, blasts Zhaitan in the face, kills him.

I wouldn’t worry about the recopies just yet. I suspect new real estate will increase the number of nodes. Boon duration could be quite good too.

Even if the rest of the Maguuma Wastes has more cactus nodes, that doesn’t change the fact that Version A of a food lasts half as long yet requires twice as much of a rare ingredient than Version B of the same food. That can’t be by design, can it?

I’m wondering if it’s exactly that. I don’t know off the top of my head which recipes come from which vendor tiers. But it could very well be “This recipe comes from the tier 2 vendor. But if you manage to unlock the tier 4 vendor, it’s twice as long and half as crafty.”

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s correct. The Pale Tree sylvari might be immune, and just assume that the foreign sylvari are because they have no reason to think otherwise.
