Add daily chests to them, albeit smaller than the full dungeon but still enough to be worth doing.

AC worth 1g? Make Lieutenant Kohler worth 25-50s.

You also cant salvage weapons with zenith skin. I never tested if the radiant/hellfire skins also make the armor unsalvageable.

You can salvage the zenith skins, actually, but only if the skin wasn’t applied to something that isn’t already unsalvageable, like a piece of wvw or temple gear. If you put it on a regular crafted or dropped exotic, you can still salvage.

Assassins equilibrium (new GM trait) critique

in Thief

Dakota.4591

Quick and easy solution.

1. Get rid of Last Refuge. It’s broken, it hurts more than it helps, and we’ve been wanting it changed or removed since release.

2. Make Assassin’s Equilibrium the Shadow Arts adept minor trait. As is, this trait is much more in line with the useablility I’d expect of a 5 point (1 new point) trait than a 30 point (6 new point) one. That, and it would move a stealth-based trait to SA where it belongs.

3. Make a completely new GM acrobatics trait from scratch.

New GM Traits from Ready Up

in Thief

Revealed Training – Depends on how quickly the 200 power is applied. If it’s applied to the hit that breaks the stealth (backstab or whatnot), very nice. If it’s applied after the stealth is fully broken and not to the initial hit… much more meh. Still, will be useful in wvw if it applies to the revealed caused by antistealth traps.

Invigorating Precision – Nice idea, but nobody will ever use this over Executioner.

Resilience of Shadows – Good for wvw permastealth thieves when people are trying to AE them down, I suppose. Not worth a 30-point trait for.

Assassin’s Equilibrium – Whoever came up with this one needs to be shot in their god kitten face. Thieves already have the least amount of stability of any class in the game, and when we finally get some more, we still can’t control when it goes off. See that stun or knockdown attack incoming? Awesome, all you have to do is fire off stealth, get close enough to hit them (assuming that you already didn’t have to get close enough to CnD), and hope that you timed it right that the attack doesn’t land after a paltry one second. Assuming that it didn’t already land when you were trying to get it to fire.
I suppose that this trait has one saving grace, in that there’s still no reason to dump the full 30 in Acrobatics since all the GM traits suck.

Seriously. In his god kitten face.

Bewildering Ambush – Not bad, but is it worth dropping Slight of Hand for? Probably not.

tl;dr version – None of the traits are really worth using. Either they’re good, but not as good as the old GM traits, or they’re abysmally bad in a line with other abysmally bad GM traits. Also, in his god kitten face.

Zerker build has ruined this game !

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

Zerker gear isn’t the problem. It’s the way they designed enemy NPCs, particuarly bosses. They attack slowly with attacks that either have a predictable pattern or an obvious telegraph, and do massive damage when they connect. Avoiding the damage isn’t an issue of mitigating the hits, it’s about dodging, blinds, reflects, aegis, or whatever the class mechanic is.

So either you go full zerker and get the boss down quickly, relying on those other mechanics to avoid damage. Or you go full soldier and try to tank the boss and get two-shotted instead of one-shotted (or one-shotted regardless), forcing you to rely on those other mechanics to avoid damage, except you’re doing less damage than full zerker.

Give bosses and such quicker attacks like player autoattacks that you can’t dodge or blind or aegis every hit, that do less damage where vitality and toughness actually make a difference. That will make defensive stats start to become more important.

Eir in Brahm’s early missions during Flame and Frost.
Caithe in the Aetherblade path in TA.

As touching as this thread is, it does kinda highlight the way Taimi was pretty much sidelined for the last several chapters of the Living Story. After coming back from Edge of the Mists, she was told to guard the refugee camp during Escape from LA, and she has no interaction whatsoever in Battle from LA. The emphasis on her becoming the 5th member of Destiny’s Edge 2.0 makes her absence during the final mission that more noticable.

Does come across like a bit of “Here’s a token disabled character. What, actually participate in the finale? Lolno, disabled people can’t contribute to important things, lol!”

It’s actually because she’s a child and anet has to avoid her being in combat for rating problems. It was explained in their video.

Kasmeer was the only one who participated in combat. Marjory and Brahm if you count them being injured. They could have just as easily had Taimi be the medic in that scene instead of Rox. For all the buildup and/or foreshadowing about how much she wanted to see Scarlet, you’d think she’d have made -some- sort of appearance there that wouldn’t have involved her being in combat.

I agree the kiss was goofy, but I think the hiccuping had its own special little place in my heart anyway.

She hiccups when she’s nervous and she is definitely nervous at this point yet, when Scarlet’s trap is set off, she’s the one hero that goes with you to finish it all.

I understand the in-story reason for it, just saying that it detracted from the tension of the event.

I was unsatisfied simply because the ending to the story didn’t clear anything up about Scarlet, nor vindicated this horribly written story in any way.

When Scarlet offered to explain her motives, I actually wanted her to proceed, but Braham was like “NO!”

I wanted to punch him…

And now Scarlet’s dead, and she CAN’T explain herself, and therefore will go down as the worst written character in Guild Wars history.

As for the mechanics, yes, it was highly anticlimactic… So it was really unsatisfying in every way possible.

This this this.

Pretty much I chalk it up to Scarlet being such a poorly-written character right from the start, that when it came time for the writers to wrap it up, even they realized they couldn’t redeem her as a worthwile villain and said ‘kitten it, just stomp her.’

It’s as I’ve been saying for a while. Any time they make a new large scale coordinated event (Tequatl, Jungle Wurm, Marionette, LA), they need to put an NPC somewhere in the zone, where someone with a commander tag, or a guild leader, or whatever criteria is decided on, can spend say, 5g, to get their own locked overflow of that zone and ferry in howevermany people they want. The player softcap/hardcap weren’t that much of a problem until ANet started implementing events that are tuned towards a hardcapped zone. If they’re going to be making fights tuned towards 150 people, they need to implement some form of deciding which 150 people get in.

Was disappointed in how Destiny’s Edge 2.0 was wrapped up.

Kasmeer’s hiccuping really took away from any tension leading up to the final fight and the relief afterwards, and that last kiss between her and Marjory just was really goofy with the way it was rendered. Rox and Brahm was a lot of buildup that really went nowhere. And Taimi was forgotten, I guess that the disabled aren’t allowed to be heroes even when they have a big golem to ride in.

You use a “Might on Crit” sigil in mainhand and “Torment on Crit” in offhand. I was under the impression that if you used two “X on Crit” sigils they would interfere with one another to the point that it was less efficient to run two of them than with swapping one out.

So, I currently have the exotic Spinal Blades, but don’t have the crafting yet to make it ascended.

If I equip it on character 1, and eventually get the crafting to make the gift of blades on character 2, I can still throw it all in the forge on character 1, the gift isn’t soulbound, correct?

Second question, if I equip and soulbind the exotic version on a character, then ascend it in the forge, does the ascended version go back to account bound or remain soulbound?

Why are group events so poorly tuned?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

There’s no problem with the events, but rather with the players.

I think this right here is the problem. ANet has done a better job than many other MMOs in making events that can’t be failed because of a select few people. But recent events have started to buck this trend. New Tequatl was like this before they changed the turrets. Marionette was like this. And now the LA miasma events. It’s less of an impact than the others, as you can still make 1200 citizens without beating a single miasma (albeit with some difficulty), but the event scales upwards at a far greater rate than player involvement. And max-scaled miasma events are unbeatable in their current state.

While I understand ANet wanting the events to not be facerolled up against a zerg, the way Miasma events are scaled are a good example of how not to do it.

Solo PvE thief build

Dakota.4591

I just created a thief for mainly solo PvE, and for some group open world boss events., and was looking for this exact information. This is great for lvl 80, but do you guys have any advice on leveling?

Having leveled 4 80’s I know trait distribution while leveling can be quite different than a final lvl 80 build. I am lvl 31 right now, running Deadly Arts 3 and Critical Strikes 6, and not sure where to place the next 10 trait points.

Is getting Trickery the way to go, or putting 10 into Acrobatics or Shadow Arts better for survivability?

In PvE, all you need is DPS. You’ll get much more mileage out of putting traits into DA/CS/Trickery than in Acrobatics or SA, as you’ll be killing the mobs faster than they kill you. Blinds, stealths, utilities, and attacks with built-in evades should give you all the survivability you need for PvE.

The only PvE you -might- need more survivability for is things like Arah or high level fractals, but as you’re just levelling up, you don’t need to worry about those yet.

okay so S/P and SB. Is D/P a viable option instead of S/P or is S/P a better option?

D/P does not cleave nor evade. S/P does cleave and pistol whip has built in evade frame. If you thinking of single target weapon that d/d.

This. D/P does higher single-target damage than S/P, and D/D does even more. S/P is just the easiest combination for someone new to the class, though just about every weapon combination is viable except P/P.

Could tie in with how sylvari are actually “blighted humans” and servants of Mordremoth. Wouldn’t want one of them in the group when Mordy resumes taking control.

As far as “warbands” go, I was invited to a warband not long after I joined the guild. My “legionnaire” then told me that I’d need to buy a name change contract to match the legionnaire’s. Additionally, I had to take a week or two off from the game to deal with some RL, and when I came back, was told that I needed to let the legionnaire know whenever I was going to leave like that.

If those are the guild’s policies, well, you can see why I wasn’t too broken up about being kicked, nor made any attempt to get re-invited.

(Evon’s betrayal of Lion’s Arch and deactivation of a gate). On one hand, they’ve done great things to build a story around Evon. On the other hand, they’ve had him do something that should get him executed, no excuses.

What the hell are you talking about? What gate? What betrayal?

The final Dolyak escort in LA before the end of the event has Evon Gnashblade along with the Dolyaks. Once they reach the end, there’s a bit of dialogue between the Lionguard there telling Evon to hurry up and get his Dolyaks through so they can resume evacuating civilians. Once he’s through, the gate shuts down (They blamed it on Evon, but it was probably closed on Kiel’s orders), the guards run for the exits.

It’s not that hard if people jump (aim for bronze) and run off, Smaller groups can beat this very easy and you don’t have to actually BE there to get the achieve. (like I said do enough for bronze and go away).
These events are not suitable for zerg mentality. I see them fail over and over again when they’re zerged.

Yeah, I can’t state this often enough! What are people thinking, actually participating in events that need to be completed to earn their achievements. What a noobish mentality.

Except, as mentioned, you don’t have to participate in the event at all to get the achievement. You just have to be in a LA instance where it’s done and you’ll get the achievement without tagging a single mob in a single miasma event. The problem isn’t the noobish mentality, as much as ANet’s kittenpoor scaling implementation.

Escape from LA - Critique and How To Improve

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Dakota.4591

Dakota.4591

I’m enjoying this patch but I feel like there are some areas that can be improved on for future releases.

The following are problems and possible solutions that will make events such as this more rewarding for different types of players

2.) Problem: AFK’ers leeching.

Solution:
We’re going to have to change map rewards slightly.

Everyone on the map will still be rewarded for 1200 citizens rescued. But they will be rewarded a Locked Chest.

How do you open it? By participating in all events in LA. Anet should include a token system that can be exchanged for better rewards. For example, all mobs can drop a token and from event completion. Citizen rescues can also be rewarded a large number of tokens using the event system described earlier above.

Eww.

I don’t trust ANet to get the ratio right of chests to keys. I’d see a “black lion chest” situation where because of unlucky drop rates or poor timing, people end up with stacks of chests they can’t open by the time the event goes away. Then ANet decides to start selling the keys for gems.

I think I remember reading elsewhere on the forums that canonically, LA has a population of about 50,000 people. And canonically, less than 2000 make it out alive.
So yes, killing over 95% of the population sure is saving them!

Are we certain that less than 2000 make it out?

I kind of imagined that people had already started leaving en-masse BEFORE the event starts.

Seeing as the original goal was 1500, we know that AT LEAST that many made it out. (Are Kiel and the others that leave on her airship even included in that?)

The way I saw it explained, a few hundred of the named or notable NPCs (Ellen Kiel, dungeon armor merchants, various lionguards, et cetera), plus however many citizens are able to be rescued. After the patch that fixed the timers not resetting, most I’ve heard of any rescue run was in the 1700 range. So 2000 sounds about right.

As far as people leaving en masse, Scarlet’s attack pretty much came from all sides at once, so there probably wasn’t opportunity for people to escape before the players do their rescue run.

The technique described below works for the Edge of the Mists too. But the services are almost nil at EoM spawn.

1) Press ‘B’

2) Select enter your Home server Borderland. You will be transported to the spawn point in the Citadel.

3) The crafting stations are to the East.

4) After completing your business select the ‘Crossed Swords’ Icon from the row in the top left. Select the button below the picture in the top left to ‘Enter the Mists’. You will be taken to the PvP lobby, another completely safe area.
Immediately select the crossed Swords again, and select the ‘Exit the Mists’ button below the picture in the upper left. Return to the EXACT place in the open world you left from. This works anywhere in Open World PvE (inside the Cities too of course) and costs NOTHING.

All well and good. The problem is when you need to do this without leaving the zone. IE, you and your guild are getting ready for a coordinated run on LA and you need to switch traits, or craft some stat food, or what have you. Zoning to EoM to do all that is fine, but when you come back you’ll probably be in another overflow with the original one you were just in hard-capped, at which point it’s a matter of dumb luck that you’ll get inside LA in time to join your party before that one is hard-capped too.

Sure, not having the crafting stations or trait reset NPCs is a minor issue, but until A-Net fixes their kitten-poor overflow mechanics, it’s a wholly preventable issue that should have been put in there in the first place while all of LA’s services are moved. Once the event is done and LA is opened back up, sure, leave the airship and all its goodies where it is, but as long as the attack is running, if Vigil Keep is supposed to be the temporary replacement for LA, then they need to not half-kitten it.

So has anyone figured out who died? Anet said that one of the memorable characters died.

Saw in another thread some people were talking about the “Your face is squished and weird” kid and the “Yours is like a little raisin” charr. The charr was found in Gendarran hills and isn’t going to survive. Little Raisin kid is nowhere to be found though.

Zerging is a terrible way to do the miasma due to how it scales. One group of 5 people can clear a miasma event in about half the time as two groups of 10 people. Larger zergs are how the miasma events fail.

I think I remember reading elsewhere on the forums that canonically, LA has a population of about 50,000 people. And canonically, less than 2000 make it out alive.
So yes, killing over 95% of the population sure is saving them!

When the living story allows him to finally cleanse Orr and it gets asura gates and merchants and crafting stations, you’ll all love him.

And you can buy a pass to his asura gates and merchants and crafting stations for only 1000 gems!
