I agree that specialization reveal is bigger than WvW changes, but it doesn’t make WvW changes not special.
Then we must delve into deciphering the meaning of “special”.
And by we, I mean a task I shall let others quarrel over.

I’m just tired of ANet’s imaginary hype. If there is nothing “big” for the following week, then be up front with us. But Rubi said there was something really special. Stop trying to hype something that isn’t there. We are all tired of it, stop treating us like kids.
I agree with this sentiment. It’s nice they threw WvW a bone, but I do not think these changes are “big” at all. As a casual WvW player, all I see these to be are a few quality of life changes, nothing revolutionary. Blobs of meat and vegetables will still wage battle against other blobs of meat and vegetables.
A specialization reveal is big news. It affects everyone that plays this game. In depth information on Guild Halls is kind of a big deal. Beta schedules are a slight deal, but a bigger deal than these WvW changes. Release date for HoT is a big deal. These WvW changes are just a regular blog post. All of this is my opinion, of course (as it should go without saying, but some people feel inclined to quote and say “IN YOUR OPINION” if one does not proclaim that their own opinion is indeed their opinion).
I don’t want to be mean or rude, but… I’ll just hold my tongue. These changes look undesirable.
I also sincerely hope this is not the special announcement.
This changes seems to simplify WvW, ANet is really worried about new players so they changed PvP a while ago to simply it (no rune combination, no amulet combination, among other things), then they simplified the PvE with the NPE stuff, obviously WvW wouldn’t escape from that.
Also, I’m almost sure that is the special announcement.
EDIT: I’m not sure if the WvW will be better or worse, it just seems simplified imo.
As a roamer, these changes just make me a bit concerned for my well-being and viability. On TC it’s already difficult enough roaming against JQ/BG all the time. Now roamers are going to have an even larger target over their head since dolyaks are about to become as sacred as a cow in India while being visited by a bunch of hungry American tourists.
I don’t want to be mean or rude, but… I’ll just hold my tongue. These changes look undesirable.

I saw a few people complaining about this in map chat today and just shrugged it off. However, I found myself in possession of two pieces of exotic equipment and I decided to salvage them. I only received one mithril ore per weapon (I did receive their respective sigils in both cases because I did use a Black Lion Salvage Kit in both cases). I noticed that salvage kits were tampered with in the latest patch, so it has made me a bit wary that there may possibly be a bug.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Getting only two mithril ore from two (level 80) exotics is very abnormal for me; and although I do not have a large sample size I typically at least get a Glob of Dark Matter or something.
When is about the fix for the Stealth Bug?
ThanksA little delayed but getting there.
Totally the wrong thread for this, but is this being looked in to still?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Female-human-only-has-1-animation-now/first
I’ll send you even more coffee just for a “it’s still being looked in to!”
A new build is up but I doubt we’re gonna get compensated.
Of course we won’t :P
The same thing happened to me after the Shatterer fight. How annoying.
Same happened to me… Can provide video proof if necessary…
Also, people keep saying leveling is easy. This is true. However, easy =/= fun or exciting.
(no more difficult champion encounters — I’d prefer some champions in a blue moon to none at all).
There are still champions, they’re just not usually out in the open. If you explore, you’ll find them. The only champions that were removed were from the starter areas where people used to mindlessly farm them.
Oh, I know
It’s just that with the general watering down of things it makes those areas less appealing (to me). I didn’t like the Queensdale train (that definitely needed to go), but I enjoyed the challenge of running across a champion as a low level player in a starting area. So underwater enemies, harvesting nodes, champions, skills and probably more that I have forgotten have been removed or watered down. Yet, for some reason, we’re allowed to have Shadow Behemoth, Fire Elemental, and Maw run amok (amok is an exaggeration; however, if champions are deemed too difficult in starting areas, surely these encounters would be deemed unsafe too). Obviously those grand encounters are attractions so they would not, and should not, be gotten rid of. On the other hand, understanding these giant encounters is deemed less difficult than harvesting? Or killing things to earn weapon skills? Traits? Using a water bucket to put out a fire? Killing stray champions?
It’s just sad to me. The starting areas were my favorite areas to romp in. They were accessible and occasionally you would run across a “difficult” encounter. I wish they would randomize the “boss” veterans in the starting areas to occasionally be champions. It would be nice to see new players leveling on a map along with stray veterans (not farming a train, because there wouldn’t be one — it would be random) gather together to take down a champion. Now those new areas are the most soloable of all the maps. This is an MMO; the first impression that would be made to me if I were starting in a starter area would be “I can pretty easily just solo everything without the need of help from others?”
Shadow Behemoth is awesome, but it’s a far stretch from obtaining a feeling of accomplishment when you beat it.
Leveling is painful to me too. It is easy to do and there are many ways to go about doing it. However, now that they’ve cursed us with the New Player Experience, leveling is a bit more difficult in the open world (and you don’t start getting your build going until the end of the line) and also more boring (no more difficult champion encounters — I’d prefer some champions in a blue moon to none at all). In addition, I don’t want to spend the time or the gold to acquire traits since the revamp is coming up soon. This deters me from wanting to level an alt at the moment. That’s a lot of mindless crap to grind just to unlock all the traits — and they’re being redone anyways. Why pay tons of gold, or spend tons of time, just to have it all wasted when they undo this aspect of the NPE?
Where are their clothes though?
They said on their GW2 Twitter that they wouldn’t be dropping after May 10th anymore. Apparently a very sparse amount of people have been claiming to obtain them still. You can either believe Anet or you can believe the people that could very easily be trolling you into wasting a lot of time.
I would not play in either Dry Top or Silverwastes with the intention on getting a portal stone.
It would take quite a bit of resources, which are in short supply now, to re-instigate Season One. The World would have to be re-wound, and many players were not pleased with Scarlet. Many players.
Season One may become available, in an instanced-version, ….some day.
Good luck.
I played Season 1. I didn’t really like Scarlet, but I’d rather have something going on than nothing. I had a lot of fun with the marionette battle and the LA invasion. Those were a lot of fun and it allowed for the community to join together and play together (something that Season 2 was missing out on until Vinewrath). Vinewrath doesn’t really match the scale of the LA invasion, though. It would be grand to play and experience that again in the open world. I can’t imagine many of the aspects of Season 1 being remotely as exciting once they’re watered down into solo instances.
With Hearth of Thorns under tight development there has been a slight gap in content releases. It’s totally understandable that resources are currently stretched extraordinarily thin and that this would happen with such an extensive campaign under development.
However, would it be possible to “replay” season 1 in its entirety without too much of a hassle? It would definitely help break the monotony and I’m sure a ton of newer players would absolutely love to get a chance to dive into the old content. It would also keep the hype train going at a nice pace; especially if the finale led up to, or close to, the release of Heart of Thorns.
This has already been suggested in many threads regarding the hiatus we’re on until Heart of Thorns, but I wanted to make a thread specifically regarding the re-implementation of season 1.
I doubt this is possible considering the further strain it would put on HoT development resources, but I really wanted to ask anyways. I think a lot of people are getting a bit restless. Thanks!
I couldn’t send the message across the void using the character name information.
Possibly if I address it to the account instead? I’m not sure if that will work.
No..for an mmo and for the CONSTANT demands and expectations of an mmo that IS a micro team. For a single player that’s an OK team…but even then not that big.
The vast majority of f2p mmo’s have developer employee numbers barely in the 10’s, let alone the hundreds
I honestly wouldn’t be super surprised if Anet was working on GW3 at this point…
Let us not forget that ANet has had a very large and secret project brewing in the background for years.
Do people really still believe in that? The state of the expansion is a clear sign that they haven’t been working on it “for years”.
1. Do not quote me out of context.
2. We see what Anet wants us to see.
Tell me, what is the “state of the expansion” from the demo you have played? Or have seen? How many iterations has the expansion been through? Is it even the expansion they are referring to when they refer to their big project?
Not that it really matters, because it would still only lead to people complaining about how lazy they are to only release old stuff instead of new (just look at Halloween, Wintersday and Chinese New Year).
If only. I’d love for them to re-release Ascent to Madness. I’ve pretty much begged for them to re-release Ascent to Madness. That dungeon stole the show in 2012 (imo, of course). It’s a shame their precious new players miss out on that experience.
I love how people are so excited to blame “the people that wanted an expansion” for the content drought. Proudly proclaiming, as if proving some point, you are all to blame. Let us not forget that ANet has had a very large and secret project brewing in the background for years. While we do not know (because of their company policy on sharing information) if that project was Living Story Season 2, Heart of Thorns, or perhaps some other unannounced project, it is foolish to point the finger and blame those despicable other people.
Can this please be fixed with, or soon after, Heart of Thorns? Please?
Dragon Ball was released during Lunar New Year.
While I know there had to be people that enjoyed the Lunar New Year activities, all the people I know that play this game (including myself) did not. The content was small and limited too much to PvP. I enjoyed the decorations, but that is it. Even taking the Lunar New Year into consideration, that was back in February (the festivities ended February 24th). So even if we are going to consider that a full and thorough event, we are coming on three months of nothing. That’s one-fourth of a year without recycling or adding anything new.
Games like WoW have created enough events where they almost always have something going in game. Yes, I also know that WoW is a much, much older and more refined and directed game (by this I mean that Anet played with The Living Story method until they figured they needed to create an expansion), but Anet does have some assets which have not been seen for some time that could be reused to break the monotony should they choose to do so and implement them. They choose not to, for reasons unknown to us. It does not help that their company policy is “Treat everyone like children and keep them in the dark because they will whine like children when we fall short on our promises”.
I would rather them announce projected deadlines and “fall short” rather than keep us suspended without a clue.
I would think the negative feedback they receive from their policy would be far worse than if they flipped it the other way around. It’s admirable that they attempted to innovate the information exchange, but… Anyways, that it neither here nor there.

As a player, that really sucks. But for a gaming company, it’s a gold mine.
Except they’re not using that gold mine.
1. SAB? Nope
2. Pavilion? Nope
3. Dragon bash, even? Nope
4. Ascent to Madness Dungeon of Halloween ‘12 when Halloween rolls around? Nope
5. Retroactively replaying S1 in the world? Nope
6. Can I have Tribal Armor yet? It’s been near three years? Nope
These idles were removed because a large majority of players, myself included, were mortified at the player’s character showing such weak will by stretching before deliberately kicking a bunch of innocent pebbles and rocks.
Can we remove screams when characters are set on fire too? The sounds are disturbing and I don’t like my character being presented in such a light.
if players stop playing dps and more focus on support classes maby the games get more fun and balance
This is just going to make players play DPS even more. You can’t dip into other traitlines now; you have to fully invest in them. So when I used to get the fall damage trait, but ONLY got the fall damage trait from a line, now I’m going to just invest all the way into my damage traitlines. I don’t need 30 points, or whatever, in a traitline that doesn’t have worthwhile traits.
Really, this game may as well play itself it’s so simple. And nice job on taking away peoples’ unique builds. Now constructing builds is going to be even more mindless.
Let’s just take away things and call it “mainstreaming” it into a new and improved feature!
AS DPS now comes from gear completely (they removed all stats from te trait lines) DPS is no longer bound to what were the power and precision trait lines. It doesn’t matter anymore.
Yeah, but most of the good damage traits are in those lines anyways. Unless they’re changing the lines entirely. I’m just disappointed that they’re restricting the lines like this, but whatever. Maybe I liked having a tiny amount of rogue stats from my traits to supplement my berserker gear. Maybe I liked dipping a few points into a line just to get the falling damage trait. Not everyone is as cool as a warrior where it’s in their damage line :P

Still waiting patiently… More or less.
More than half a year later.
Bleh, I’m not surprised I didn’t get an e-mail despite supporting this game since GW1. (Got GWAMM from GW1, and 5k hrs on GW2 now)
My luck always fails me.Obviously not one of the most loyal players. /sarcasm
This is frustrating. All my active (logging in at least once every two days — typically every day) guild friends (eight people) got one, except me.I love this game, but apparently I’m to be shunned because I’m not loyal enough, apparently. Feelings. Hurt.
At least all those popular streamers that don’t actually care about the game probably got in. At least I can take comfort in that. Wait. That’s not comfort.
Edit: I am literally about to cry though. Out of all the regulars in my guild, I won’t be joining them when they first set foot into the new area together. Together, without me.
This beta lasts for two 2 hour sessions, you won’t be shunned for long!
That said, is there a specific reason you can’t sign up for the mailing list? If it’s due to not having the accounts email, I’d email support on your current email and ask to swap it over (they’ll need specific details like game key, possible receipts etc). If you do it sooner rather than later you should be in with a bigger chance to get into the next beta event!
I appreciate the help! I have two emails associated with my NCSoft Master Account (something irrelevant to GW2, however pertains to GW1). I do have access to both email accounts and have attempted on many occasion to sign up for the newsletter. One is a yahoo address and the other is a personal address (so they’re not the same email provider). One of these two are associated directly with my Guild Wars 2 account (and my Guild Wars 1 account). I’ve tried using different web browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome, and Safari on my mobile) and I’ve registered every other day for the first week with the registration issues and then once a week after and have never received any confirmation that my emails have been accepted by the system.
Yes, the tests are only two hours in duration each, but it’s what my guild is going to be doing and it’s going to be what they’re talking about when they’re not doing it. I’m going to be left out of the loop with them, and it’s hurtful since we do everything in game together.
It just makes me sad. They’re apparently in the stress testing phase already; couldn’t they have just invited everyone? It seems so many have gotten in… And it makes me just not want to log in. I’ve already been deemed not very loyal, and I don’t want to be around by myself or be around when my whole guild is talking about something I was excluded from. And I wouldn’t want them not talking about it on my account of possibly making me feel bad.
I just feel like I’ve done everything I can do and it’s added up to nothing. While a good RL friend of mine that pretty much never plays (he has one 80 and hasn’t logged on since October when I hassled him to join me in the Clock Tower) got an invite somehow.
I just wish maybe the email used the word lucky in the letter rather than ‘one of our most loyal’. It makes me feel like they (Anet) feel I don’t value the game or the developer. And that is so far from the truth.

I still can’t register for the HoT newsletter, so it doesn’t really matter. Never mind having played the series since the launch of Guild Wars 1 in 2005. Oh well. It’s hard not to be a bit bitter…
I’m happy for those that got in. Please do your best to break things and send in lots of juicy bug reports!
Huh? There weren’t remotely this many bugs in the BWEs or initial release. Optimization was an issue. Along with sit-jumping, apparently :P Possibly that cheap rare weapons for low karma glitch. But that wasn’t necessarily a bug.
- Ranger downed skill 3 did not work if the player was on a slope
- Several stuck skillpoint/map completion issues
- Personal Story bugs blocking progress
- Players could get their skill animations stuck and weapon swap for fun (I miss this one)
- Level 67 rares yielded exotics in the forge
- Personal mails were often capped at 6/10 due to game messages taking up slots
- WvW bonuses were not correctly displayed
- It was possible to transmute cultural armor of the wrong race to achieve public nudity
- Detha and Hodgkins VERY frequently refused to progress AC paths 1 and 2
- Getting the ranger’s Opening Strike to apply vulnerability was a bit like winning the lottery
- A long list of Necro trait bugs
- The icons for asuran basic weapons made them look like tribal weapons
- Asurans using Whirling Axe only showed damage sporadically
Just off the top of my head. For an incomplete list of release bugs that have since been fixed.
I didn’t say there were no bugs at release. My point is this one patch introduced a ton of them. It will probably take a very long time to sort all of them out (if they all get sorted out).
Huh? There weren’t remotely this many bugs in the BWEs or initial release.
that is 100% rose-colored glasses and selective memory at work.
Ok… examples? The trading post was offline so there wasn’t even that to deal with. A few skill points were bugged (especially underwater ones). A few tasks had glitches (the haunted house in the Charr forest with the human necromancer ghost DE — even that only fairly recently got fixed).
I don’t remember guild chat being super messed up. I don’t remember going offline causing the game to crash. I don’t remember gross green font being plastered everywhere, although that is minor. I don’t remember having these bright red lines going down half of my apparel pieces (the amount of armor pieces affected by this has grown over time). I don’t remember the game running at 10-20 frames per second on my machine when I used to get 50-70 on maximum settings. I don’t remember idle animations being glitched at launch (spoiler: they weren’t). I don’t remember hearing completely random voices from different races/sexes frequently yelling. I don’t remember stacks in my inventory not being able to stack on themselves (with exception to the year one/two birthday scrolls).
(edited by DarkOcean.8746)
Hu?! Shoulda been here for BWE’s and release! Talk about bugs, hotfix’s, patches…Meh it happens. They go silent to do their best in working on the reported issues then BAM. Out comes the next release and everything is all good with Tyria again.
But to each their own.
Huh? There weren’t remotely this many bugs in the BWEs or initial release. Optimization was an issue. Along with sit-jumping, apparently :P Possibly that cheap rare weapons for low karma glitch. But that wasn’t necessarily a bug.
These new bugs that have popped up are pretty terrible. Also, I have a very long list of ‘bugs’ that have accumulated over time (before this patch). So… Everything is not all fine again. I know development isn’t easy, but they really shouldn’t have released this patch at all in its current state. It’s just adding to my list of ‘things that will probably never be fixed’.
(edited by DarkOcean.8746)
They really just need to rollback this patch. There are way too many bugs. They’ll never be able to keep track of them all or fix them all (and I wouldn’t expect them too — there are way too many bugs).
-Bank Access Expresses do not stack correctly anymore.
I withdrew too many and tried plopping them back on the original stack and they refuse to stack now. Now I have two slots in my bank dedicated to these…
i’m stuck at Initiallizing
Remove SweetFX/GemFX. Yes. It sucks. That’s the price of admission currently.
You need to delete the bin folder (or remove SweetFX/GemFX). This is so frustrating. This game looks so washed out without them.
I really wish they would stop tampering with how SweetFX works with this game.
This still being “broken” is ridiculous.
Geforce Experience is having difficulties locating the settings or such for Guild Wars 2. I can’t optimize it and I can’t add the DSR settings to it (other games are being optimized and have the DSR option). Anyone know what may be going on with that?
Besides, walking over flaming coal for no apparent reason is something a lot of people do! I’m sure there are much worse things that could happen than being caught without shoes in the jungle. I’d love to see this (hide boots option) as a reward intertwined with the mastery system (along with other fun/aesthetic rewards).
Wasn’t a guy doing just that in some GW2 release trailer?
Yup. As much as I wanted to forget that live action trailer. Yup.
In GW1 they have a system where if the guild leader is inactive for about six months, or so, then it will pass down leadership to the nearest active officer.
In FFXIV if the leader isn’t on for 90+ Days, they get demoted to the lowest rank and the leader is automatically passed to the next highest rank. GW2 should probably think about doing the same.
90 days is pretty harsh, but yeah.
In GW1 they have a system where if the guild leader is inactive for about six months, or so, then it will pass down leadership to the nearest active officer.
You’ll be able to swap specializations out of combat.
I apologize for going off topic without filling out my reasoning to make it more relevant, but I do think The Secret World has an excellent system when it comes to aesthetic preferences such as this. It adds another layer to character customization (allowing the user to go barefoot —not just hide their shoes-- and to go shirtless —for the males--). And, yes, our aesthetic system here is very slightly limited by a pay wall. The transmutation charges can be obtained for free, but not “I’ll change my attire every day” free like in TSW. By the way, I love both games! This isn’t bashing on Guild Wars 2. I realize that transmutation stones are an important revenue stream. It’s just interesting to compare the two game’s “cash shops” to each other.

Really though. Queen Jennah is barefoot. Tons of norns are barefoot (and topless). The human elementalist trainers are barefoot. An option should totally be added down the line.
When it does come back, please make it an armour (not an outfit), so we can mix and match! :-)
It’s in game as different pieces and people that earned it use it as different pieces. I’ll be super kittened if they bring it back as an outfit. It’s not my fault they mislabeled the armor so we didn’t know for sure if we could unlock it in the first place (since it was originally called masquerade and the icon looked like masquerade).
Seems that way.
