ArenaNet has responded several times, the answer is it might be added as a reward track in the future.
You guys just keep making a topic about it everyday.
Source? I’ve checked at least 20 of these types of threads since launch and have never seen a word. Also, it’s not that hard to just substitute it in to a karma vendor somewhere.
You need to talk to a Black Lion Armorsmith in one of the towns. He will transform everything into the new system. But trust me… you’re gonna scream when you see what they’ve done to your shirt. Mine was my pride and joy, but now I wouldn’t be seen dead in it. A stupid tonic that lasts 15 whole minutes. With undyable cargo shorts and bright red boots. Your hat will be and armor skin, unusable with your shirt. Sorry… I did my best before the Patch to talk them out of this.
It’s actually a wonderful deal.
Id like to get this armor as well, Im not really into PVP anymore so I kinda feel cheated that pvper’s get something exclusive to them. I mean yeah it’s still in the game and I can get it just that I really don’t like to pvp much in mmo’s anymore for various reason’s. That and Im grinding my legendary out atm and that is taking way two long and consuming all of my time in the game as it is.
I have wanted this set for my necro alt since beta and really wish they would add this skin back in pve or at least dignify us with a response as to why it was removed.
Actually you may not be able to even get it from PvP anymore. I don’t think we know yet if it’s bundled in a reward chest.
It’s just if it were in a regional track, or at least one of the existing ones, wouldn’t we have seen it in the Trading Post by now, most likely? As far as I’m aware, all the PvP armors aren’t soulbound now.
You go here https://help.guildwars2.com/home.
Then you go to the top right and “Submit a request”.
Make sure you have as much information readily available as possible (serial code, email, account name, character on the account).
EDIT: If you don’t want to click that link (I couldn’t blame you), just go to the top right of the forum page → hover your mouse over “Services” → and then “Support”. It will lead to the same page as my link.
So none of the original functionality was taken away, but additional uses were added.
Unless you consider original functionality to be working with town clothes like they were originally intended to be.
As long as they add a dislike button for Arenanet posts too and don’t grant themselves immunity.
It’s just ridiculous how many NPCs vend the Primitive armor. They have it vended in full sets 3 or 4 times; they should substitute Tribal Armor in somewhere. I was thinking surely, since they finally distinguished Tribal Armor from Masquerade Armor, they would add in a Tribal Armor vendor in somewhere. It’s so stupidly elusive, and it’s been that way for almost two years without any reason as to why or when it would surface.
It looks like the Primitive Style is still given from karma vendors in Fireheart Rise. Any other suggestions? I’ll probably try Orr next.
it’s level 60 karma gear -_-
level 60 masquerade looks exactly like this, level 80 looks different.
Which karma vendor, if you would? I remember it was supposedly in Fireheart Rise forever ago in beta.
So, I posted this image in a different thread I made and got an infraction (along with the thread being shut down) for quoting the Black Lion Armor NPC.
People that bought the town clothing and are having to go through this conversion mess are already down; stop kicking us Anet. Am I just taking this too seriously? It really feels like he is adding insult to injury.
1. It’s just not a “wonderful deal”. Period.
2. It may have been a slight inconvenience to swap to town clothing, but he states that it’s inconvenient “with all the combat here”. Here being Divinity’s Reach, where there is little inconvenience besides the occasional falling damage — there’s absolutely no combat, that’s for sure.
3. “Endless tonics, which give unlimited temporary appearance changes to a similar look”. You’re kidding, right? It’s not like my clothing didn’t do that before, except better in every way.
4. At the end of the conversation the grease-ball NPC assures us that the conversion is worth it, and the player is forced into accepting these changes as an “upgrade” or being left with entirely useless items.
Whoever designed this NPC was deliberately being a troll. I don’t really appreciate it much, but I seem to be the only one.
TLDR; Anet is convinced they gave us a “wonderful deal” involving town clothing.
I asked for a refund to my card. I don’t want gems — don’t trust the company any more.
They’ll close your account, just saying.
email… I can check email.
I’m amazed you actually trust them to restore the gems to your account without you having to log in to check.
(IF they refund my town clothes money — won’t be back if they don’t.)
Unfortunately, you’ll most likely want to keep the game installed to make sure they refunded you correctly. So either way they still have you logging in periodically to check.
That, along with holding their hands against their ears and shouting “NANANANANANANANA WE CAN’T HEAR YOU. THESE CHANGES ARE SO MUCH BETTER.”
Pot, meet kettle.
Uh. No. The old mix-and-match town clothing was superior in every single way. An argument can be made for the outfits, but the tonics are just insulting and a complete downgrade in every single way. Curtis refused to take any negative feedback and basically just said “Don’t knock it until you try it!”
They don’t care that some people/people don’t like the update. They’ve pretty much taken the “If you don’t like it GTFO” policy. That, along with holding their hands against their ears and shouting “NANANANANANANANA WE CAN’T HEAR YOU. THESE CHANGES ARE SO MUCH BETTER.”
It’s obvious they think this patch is the bee’s knees. Just talk to the Black Lion Armor Trader in Divinity’s Reach and read how he is actually making you a good deal with your old town clothing. Quite insulting.
I heard you like ugly gloves and boots with every single clothing combination.
Wearing Khaki shorts? OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE WANT LONG SLEEVES/GLOVES/BOOTS.
Wearing hoodie? YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY WANT LONG PANTS/GLOVES/BOOTS!
It’s obvious, that on top of all the bullkitten, they put absolutely zero effort into making interesting/inspired tonic combinations. A monumental failure.
This is just starting to become a cruel joke at this point. I don’t understand why it can’t be added to the karma vendor it was originally at back in beta.
Anyone find any evidence that the tribal set is in PvE now? Or available to get in PvP somehow? They kept it in the locker… And they actually renamed it to Tribal, finally. (Rather than it being named Masquerade).
You’re not getting them back. Deal with it.
Pretty sure PvP “Masquerade” has it’s design changed to PvE “Masquerade”.
So where exactly do I go to get my witches costume back? o.O
I am at the BLTP in QueensDale but I have yet to see one of these mythical BLAT’s I have seen talked about above?
They’re only going to be in the major cities. There’s one in Divinity’s Reach inside the Trading Post area.
Trust me, the people that used town clothing mind the changes. Pretty much unanimously. The people that didn’t use town clothing, do not care.
Also, gem refunds. Big whoop. I’d like an actual cash refund back. This is a huge mess. I’m going to have to spend my free time tallying up all of my clothing/tonics (aka boxing gloves) that I need refunds for.
You really just couldn’t leave the —-————- system alone, could you?
You have to go to Black Lion Armor trader to make everything appear in your inventory (Even ones that were previously equipped before the update — they’re still equipped, but you can’t see ‘where’ since the UI has been butchered).
What I’m concerned with, is that if I go and have all my clothing across all characters transformed into this tonic kitten (so I can get an accurate count of all the items I need refunds on), then their customer support will tell me “Oh, well you had your items transformed into tonics, so we can’t refund them.”
My blood is literally to a state of boiling.
I haven’t had any energy to take screenshots but I sorted my inventory at one point…
My collection of all the awesome fluff including clothes… soon to be much less so. :/
(My other account is identical save for a different boom box, which ever account this is and which ever boom box… I have no idea /tired)
Looks to be about $60 worth of town clothing (Not including the toys). -Flush-
Goodbye $60! Anet appreciates your kind donation.
I have every single outfit or piece of town clothing that was ever available except the wintersday outfit. A lot of the single pieces (like the shorts, hoodies, and blouses) I have many multiples of. I even have duplicates of some of my preferred variants. I have duplicates of some of the outfits too. I’m not super happy right now. Not. Happy.
I feel like I want to go hulk mode and choke-throw a midget through 10 walls of office at a hypothetical Insurance Claim company that I don’t work for.
Good luck! Unfortunately, I think most town clothing advocates gave up after the disheartening responses from Curtis.
Still hoping they keep our system as is or drastically change their vision of what they’re doing to town clothing. They don’t ever have to add new town clothes and I’d still be happy. They can just start making -new- stuff for the wardrobe.
It’s sad that this news has been consuming me for weeks. I haven’t even wanted to log on. And a town clothing get together would make me too sad… Sadder than a pile of dead quaggans.
I’d like to revisit this notion, especially with the reveal of the overhaul to the wardrobe system. I hope they will take this opportunity to add visibility toggles to all armor pieces.
Hmm, another potentially heavy hit to the RP community with this Feature Patch. First the eradication of town clothes, and now this. I’ve never formally RP’d before, but I’ve made Tarnished Coast my home server because I like the ambiance much better there. It feels like a living world with more people doing more things. At least I can see that this is best for the majority (as opposed to the changes to town clothes).
Unfortunately, all I see with this update is: If you are a RPer, get out.
Do what you will with promo items, etc., but,
Uh, no, I like my Dragon Emblem Shirt the way it is currently, thanks. Just because you most likely do not have one doesn’t mean changing our shirt to an entirely worthless tonic is cool, at all.
Just keep Town Clothing as a separate outfit. It’s fine the way it is now. It really doesn’t seem like Anet is listening. It’s like we’re just bashing our heads against a giant, obstinate wall. They’re obviously set on doing this, and they obviously don’t really care about our predicament.
Hey, by the way guys and gals, they’re adding a lot of new outfits into the gem store after the new patch! =^.^=
/vomit
I’d like all my kittening money back for all the wardrobe pieces I’ve bought.
To clarify this for everyone, you will only be able to get a refund for town clothes that become endless tonics.
And even then, it’s a gem refund.
Thanks for another update, but I definitely didn’t want to hear that you’re following through after all these complaints. You’re not supposed to lose features with a feature patch. Especially since a lot of us paid a good amount of real money for these items.
I don’t want my Dragon Emblem Shirt as a tonic.
I don’t want my hoodie as a tonic.
I don’t want ANY of my outfits combined into one.
Yes, I am surprised about how many of my town clothing items AREN’T armor compatible. Totally unacceptable.
And honestly, the last thing I want to hear is that you’re adding more outfits down the line. Oh goody. Not. You’re seriously trying to make us feel better by saying you’re adding new outfits down the line? Really? Really? You honestly think I’m going to buy anything from the gem store after this?
I cannot believe you’re honestly going to to through with this. You made your bed when you first introduced town clothing and nearly everyone said it was a sub-optimal idea. Sleep in it.
Insisting Anet deny them their new toy rather than take away ours isn’t any better than the current situation.
Actually it is. It’s a lot more fair that way. Don’t completely break my old toy to accommodate a new one (a new one that, even now, is still only semi-functional). I think denying them the addition of a feature is much, much better than taking something away. It sounds harsh, but I think it should be obvious that loyal Town Clothing customers should come first in this case.
I obviously didn’t buy tons of town clothing with the expectations of ever wearing them in combat. Sure it would be a nice addition if possible, but only if done the right way. I do not think the upcoming way is the right way.
1. Wait for information before crying
3. This isn’t the first MMO to do this, 90% of MMOs release new content that somehow hurts the old oneNo offense, but I’ve never played a MMO that has done something like this before. Let alone intentionally. The only game that comes close is when The Secret World had an unintentional glitch that made narrow distressed jeans (a cash shop item) clip through your calves horribly. It was unintentional, and it took months to fix. But I was ok with that. That was an accident.
This, not so much. If they told me this was a temporary solution, and that we would at least return to the functionality that we have now, in the relatively close future, then I actually would be more or less OK with their Town Clothing changes.
im curious why you have cut off half of what this person actually says it actually says
nGumball.1283:
1. Wait for information before crying
2. Stop acting biffy going ‘’Anet either gotta change the system or refund’’ cause they aren’t entitled to do any kind of refunds, you can rage, cry and leave the game. Wether it is fair or not, that’s the only thing you can do, you can’t force them to do anything
3. This isn’t the first MMO to do this, 90% of MMOs release new content that somehow hurts the old one
Sadly, large portion of the community have comments, too kitteny, not getting the simple idea that MMOs change.im just asking why cut the majority of this quote off ???
I was responding to point 3 specifically; I thought I cut out point 1 too. Must be tired :P
It also just saves space not quoting someone entirely, and it’s easy enough to find their original, full, post.

So fix the holes or let us as players elect to be OK with them rather than giving us a half-finished system.
ACtually yeah, that’s my general take on this whole thing?
There are issues doing this?
THEN FIX THE ISSUES
Don’t give us a corner-cutting workaround that most of us don’t even like compared to the old system.
Are you ready to wait 3 months for the fixes?
Absolutely.
As far as the boxing gloves go, they are the most interesting problem I’d think. If they were to force the user’s glove slot to be hidden, would that work?
There just has to be a better solution to this; hopefully one can be found and implemented.
Bonefield has a pretty good understanding here of why some mix and match is not easy at all. Some armor and clothing combinations are fundamentally not mixable, (for more than just clipping reasons)
Can you explain why you don’t just disallow mixing armor and townclothes then? I don’t think too many people care ALL that much about being able to wear khaki shorts with their vigil breastplate. What we care about is that we can no longer wear combinations that we have been able to since launch. Just make it so that if you are overriding armor with townclothes, you have to override ALL slots.
I agree that this could be an interesting solution if you can do it. Town clothes will function, aesthetically, only with other town clothes. If you try and have a Vigil Breastplate top with your Khaki Shorts, then you will have a naked top (or vice versa — naked legs). Or it won’t allow you to try and equip the two problematic aesthetics in the first place. For example if you start off in your underwear, aesthetically, and then you put on Khaki Shorts, you can then not equip any actual armor types until you remove your khaki shorts (Actual armors will be flagged with being incompatible with your current design / grayed out so you cannot select them in the wardrobe). If you equip a Vigil Breastplate, or any other kind of armor, then you will not be allowed to equip any town clothing type. With exception to maybe the headgears, which you already have workable it sounds like. Rather than having the boxing gloves equipped all the time, I think they would possibly have to become exclusively a toy this way, but that would be much better than losing everything…
In addition, this could give rise to all the equipment slots having visibility toggles (which a lot of people have been wanting). Woo, more features, rather than less, for everyone!
EDIT: And just to add, there are TONS of decent solutions floating around. And even then, the simplest of all the solutions is to just keep the status quo (for now or forever) until a better solution can be developed. I think most of us are patient.

I seriously hope that FAQ was released when they released the blog post. If they released that FAQ just an hour or two ago, then it shows they are ignoring us completely and are going ahead with their plans without giving us any thought.
The FAQ on Town Clothes has been out since midday, maybe earlier, yesterday.
Hello! Please reconsider what you’re doing to town clothes. Most people buy the town clothes to mix-and-match them and dye them. I’d rather have an all or nothing system regarding the implementation of town clothing into the wardrobe — if the hoodies, khakis, dragon shirts, very cute blouses, pirates, cooks, mad kings, and etc can’t make it as separate, dye-able pieces into the wardrobe, then I would rather keep the system as is currently.
I support the option to hide any piece of armor.
I myself am not one for the boots. But the shirt… that is the one I want. The main reason? I want my male characters to hulk out from time to time. Maybe it is because I grew up with He-man, but I like the combination of Rambo + Braveheart.
Granted, it does look silly on female toons, though.
I’d hope they would find a reasonable way to add a toggle option for chest armor too. While it would probably require more effort than a hide boots option, I think it’s something that warrants looking at. For males it would be easy, and it would look natural since they have bare chests. Most female races have undergarments visible that are natural-colored, with exception to the human females, which have a bright, obnoxious yellow bra. Maybe if they gave additional options, like torso-wraps (bandages) it would make a ‘bare’ chest for females more possible (and thus avoiding the whole sexism fiasco that The Secret World mildly suffered from by implementing bare chests for males only).
I still think a hide boot option would be easy as cake to implement though… Would love to see it happen so the community can shift their focus to torso and legs options! Pants toggling would be hard to win over, unless we had robes. Which we don’t, somehow. I’d love me some robes, but that’s neither here or now, so…
So I was super ecstatic to see that we finally, and randomly, got the toggle gloves option a long time ago! We’ve had a lot of numerous threads in the past expressing interest in the ability to toggle the visibility of armor off and on. I am hoping that we can make strides to finally implement a hide boots option.
I know that I would use this for one or two of my characters. I don’t think it can be argued by anyone that this sort of hiding feature does not belong in a game like this, as plenty of characters, races, and professions have been shown to be barefoot. I know it’s not a high priority, but I also see no reason why this cannot become a feature in the foreseeable future. It would add another acceptable layer of character customization that I think a lot of people would appreciate and use.
While I know that a thread like this will never become massively popular or gain a huge amount of momentum, I would hope that it will be seen and implemented one day. The amount of players that use the forums is probably minimal, and the amount of players that would bump this thread or show their support is also probably minimal. I’ve seen many threads like this come and go since launch, but thankfully, the hide gloves option was implemented without much of a hassle.
I also didn’t specifically name the topic of this thread to revolve around boots, because I know there are other players out there with legitimate reasons to want to add a hide shirt option (or pants). For example, I know a friend that would love to portray a monk-type character that only wears pants. I’m also sure many Norn would appreciate a hide shirt option so they’re able to display those amazing tattoos!
On the other hand, I unfortunately see the potential for hiding shirts and pants to be abused. They are two major pieces of an outfit, whereas shoes, gloves, shoulder pads, and helmets are not. For this reason, I specifically ask for a hide boots option, as I cannot think of any argument against it other than people just not wanting it. On the other hand, I can (unfortunately) see a hide option for shirts and pants being immersion breaking.
So in summary, plenty of Norn, Asura, Sylvari (all the races) and characters (like Queen Jennah and the elementalist trainer) are barefoot. In the early class videos for the game, I also remember the elementalist being barefoot in a combat video. It seems to be a perfectly acceptable fashion in Tyria, and it was nice to see an elementalist portrayed as a “down to earth” kind of character. I’m also sure some rangers would appreciate this option. There isn’t a limit to the amount of players that could potentially use this to advance their character the way they want to, without a stat loss.
Feel free to express your opinions and concerns for additional visibility options!
To ArenaNet: Please add the hide option for boots!
Thank you for reading!
-Ramble- So any news on this life threatening issue?
I don’t care if they make it a gemstore item. I just really want (NEEEEEEEEEEEEED) this set.
For great justice!
I know, but that doesn’t mean we can’t encourage other enthusiasts to post here. So when they come back in Monday, or Tuesday, there is a healthy view and post count in this thread. Maybe they’ll finally think it warrants a response.
We should keep this bumped so they feel compelled to respond.
She’s not barefoot. I think she wears other people’s feet as shoes.
To me it shows that she can’t be trusted (Have you ever met a women that doesn’t like shoes?)She’s either an alien from outa space or someone in disguise.
Or maybe all of the above! Let Detective DarkOcean walk you through. It was a very late evening in Divinity’s Reach…
Queen Jennah was fast asleep in her favorite evening gown. The Royal Palace was nearly empty, and she slept peacefully knowing that the obsessive Logan was out on duty until next week. Unfortunately, she was suddenly awoken by a loud crashing sound from the throne room. Darting out of her room, she saw a smoking crater right in front of her throne. She sighed and commenced walking over to the crater, watching her step. The object lying in the crater had apparently flown in through the oculus, leaving shattered glass everywhere.
Jennah curled her toes around the edge of the crater and curiously peeked over inside of it, but before she knew it, something had grabbed her by her head and pulled her into the hole. Her screams, along with squishy ripping sounds, echoed throughout the throne room. A moment later, “Jennah” climbed out of the crater and pushed a spaceship into the Queen’s chamber. The alien, now wearing Jennah, decided to retire for the night, as it now had a full stomach, and it had endured a long journey. It would begin the extermination of the races of Tyria by throwing a festival in the Queen’s honor. Thousands of the finest fighters would come from all over the world to participate and eradicate each other. In addition, the alien had brought with it new technologies unfamiliar to those on this planet. The world would soon be theirs.
A few hours later, another loud crash came from the throne room. The alien stumbled out of the Queen’s chamber, still adjusting to the humanoid. “Your Majesty, I have returned early!” said a beefy man in full plate armor. The alien glared at the obnoxious pretty boy. “It so happens that the threat outside of Lion’s Arch was only a dragon. I abandoned a small group of Seraph and left them to their demise to come back here and make sure you were ok! Are you hurt? Is there anything I can do to assist you!?” he begged desperately. “Fill that hole!” the alien commanded in a voice similar to Jennah’s, pointing to the crater. “Yes Your Majesty!” The man ran into a nearby room and returned with a shovel. He hastily began shoveling dirt into the crater, not thinking anything of the human skeleton in the bottom of it. The alien facepalmed.
As the days went by, Anise became concerned with the Queen’s hygiene. She had worn the same clothes for a few days and also had not bathed. Jennah was beginning to look like she had a bad case of acne, and her skin was beginning to peel and flake off. Anise put an illusion on Jennah so she would appear healthy. Unfortunately, she couldn’t do anything about the smell.
Evil alien Jennah still happily rules to this day — plotting the extinction of all life on Tyria.
The end.
It all makes sense now! The random technology, the disregard for life, her attire, and her stinky feet!
