This doesn’t show anything that can’t already be found in the TP in-game. There are only 19 items. There isn’t even an appropriate back item for my Engineer’s build that matches the rest of his armor (+Prec, Power, %CritDmg)

Yes they are suppose to be from the TP, because the OP asked to find back pieces on the TP.

However, you won’t be able filter them in the game, to only view back pieces because the category in the game TP UI has been buggy for as long as I have played this game.

It is the same class of bug as this:

Salvaging insignis & incriptions from exotics

By the way, for a list of named armor with insignia that you can salvage:

  • Rabid – Khilbron, Vatlaaw, Galrath
  • Dire – Jatoro, Errol, Yakkington
  • Shaman – Tahlkora, Reyna, Jalis

No named armor for Magi, Soldier, or Cavalier.

I guess im confused on crafted vs. non-crafted. They were shaman an magi. Are any shaman and magi exotics craftable? Cause if not then theres some exotics out there that have some sort of glitch?

21 salvaged ecotics (shaman and magi) with BL kits and no insignias?

So is there a way to tell if there crafted or not?

Maybe you replied before I edited my post. I thought you may be confused between the two, read my last sentence.

Yes shaman and magi exotics, without any suffixes, are craftable now because people can buy the inscriptions and craft them into exotics. Suffixes are the “….of something” in the name, e.g. Shaman blah blah Helm of the Dolyak. The “of the Dolyak” is the suffix and that determines the rune you get for armor.

I have been hoarding exotics for the longest time because I didn’t have the black lion kits. I finally got 1 (25 attempts so I went for it). I also bought a few on the TP…

I had 11 shaman exotic armors all of which were cheaper then 1 gold on the TP so I slavaged them all and got zero (0) inscriptions.

I had 12 Magi exotic armor pieces all of which were under 1gold on the TP and when I salvaged them I got zero (0) inscriptions

??

Obviously these were exotics that did not yield inscriptions so how am I supposed to know which can and can’t. Some were level 80 and some weren’t.

I know the % is around 50% cuase I usally get 1 every 2 attempts (before I ran out of black lion kits).

Can someone clarify to me which can and can’t be salvaged and how to know when I see it on the TP or if its a drop?

So far this is what I have been able to research;
cavalier, magi, shaman, dire, soldier stats drop upgrades… but shaman and magi apparently don’t??

Armor yields insignia, not inscriptions. Weapons yield inscriptions. I don’t know why you are not getting the insignia, if you have been salvaging non-crafted exotics. Crafted exotics do not yield insignia as that may be exploited as a cheap way to level up crafting. One way to make sure that you are not getting a crafted exotic is to only buy those exotics with a suffix or buy a suitable named exotic armor (e.g. Jatoro’s armor pieces)

I’m guessing that is why OP already stated “exotic non-craftable stats”.

Or it could be interpreted as inscriptions with stats like those of Rabid, Magi, Shaman, Dire, Cavalier and Soldier that can’t be crafted. Which would be distinct from non-craftable exotics themselves.

Since yesterday, I think we have seen a sharp drop in the value of crafting bolt of damask due to rising ingredient prices.

Even though it is still profitable to craft bolt of damask, the profit from doing that has dropped to under 1g, we will find out if that would put a downward pressure on the prices of silk scraps.

Deldrimor Steel Ingot has replaced Bolt of Damask as the ascended material of choice to craft!

If I take into account the worth of the inscription/insignia from the salvage, I can earn about 1g 8s per salvage after TP taxes and the cost of the BLSK salvage itself, also not counting any of the ectos, dark matter, or crafting material that I may earn.

This means because of the inscription/insignia, I can now buy BLSK with gold and still make a good profit from it, even if I am unlucky and get zero ectos from the salvage!

Basically, I buy cheap exotics from the TP and salvage them with BLSK. You may be surprised that many people actually sell their exotics at a lower price than the price of the upgrade they contain. Because of the high price of gems, buying BLSK with gold, for this purpose, is generally not worth it anymore. However, you can buy the gems with money and use your bought BLSK this way or you can use any of your free BLSK of course.

You can write an app that does this and I have developed such an app which I frequently rely upon for my ecto supply for almost a year now. This is allowed because you can always use gw2spidy and ArenaNet official api to do that.

You can gain a small profit selling the valuable upgrade after salvaging the cheap exotic. Whatever ectos, dark matter, or crafting materials you gain through the salvage are icing on the cake.

See folks, people like this, writing “apps”, in other words using a computer program to do the work for you, are the ones that completely ruined the TP for you. The same apps automate buy offers, even remotely. Some parts of the market are off limits because of guys like this; if they aren’t automating their buying behavior, their app is alerting them the moment they’re outbid so that they can change it. Yea, it’s cheating, straight up.

Then you should tell gw2spidy owner not to release his API to the public or even close his website since apps can still be written, even without an api, to scrap data off a website.

Also tell ArenaNet not to release their official API. That way, no one would be able to write such an app to analyze the market. Currently, gw2spidy and ArenaNet are both ENCOURAGING people to use their apis as they have provided documentations and many examples to do so.

I also got more ectos :P

According to published results, BLSK is suppose to have a higher chance of ectos than mystic salvage kit.

GoDM however, may be independent of the salvage kit.

Dont forget some still need 5 ectos for the final crafting process.

What do you mean? For crafting exotics, you only need the ectos to craft the insignia (except Giver’s which uses snowflakes instead) which is already included in the crafting cost for the insignia. If you are buying the insignia, however, you don’t need anymore ectos to craft the exotic.

For those who are still crafting exotics to level to 500. I created a short script to query gw2spidy and here is the result (Cheapest to most expensive):

37177: Apothecary’s Intricate Gossamer Insignia80(Tailor400): CRAFT
41556: Sentinel’s Intricate Gossamer Insignia80(Tailor400): BUY

Note: gw2spidy allocates the discipline to tailor you can ignore it. The result can vary at different times, even though not by much.

For those craftable insignia, even though my script checked the crafting cost vs the cost to buy it from the TP instantly, crafting is still the cheaper way to obtain them, unless you put in buy orders.

Cost of acquiring any needed recipes are not included.

I have bought over 100g worth of leather on my trading account (thats +113k pieces of leather). Thankfully due to the TP storage, I don’t have any opportunity costs to worry about other than the lack of 100g to invest in other items.

The price rise on silk has made me very interested in the long-term prospects of leather.

Yes, silk rose because of it’s use in ascended crafting, while leather didn’t go up as high as expected.

But that doesn’t close the opportunity that in the future leather can be used in some very key recipes in the future. You never know what they can come up with.

They could use it in precursor crafting, legendary accessory components, mystic forge conduits or other new, desirable items. All the anet content team needs to do is go to John Smith and ask him for some suggestions. John Smith could say, “You could use globs, t6 mats and other components to add some value to craft [content]. But I think we can also use this as an opportunity to add some value to leather in the game”

I think John Smith has made it clear now that he is looking at items that are undervalued and could use a boost. The risk is very minimal while the chance at profit is very, very high.

I should make a word of warning, however, to those who may think of speculating leather. Unless you have a second account that you’re willing to bank things in the TP pick-up tab, it is not a worthy investment due to space issues.

I think investing in gems/orbs is something you could consider instead [self-disclosure, I have massive investments in those]

That makes more sense to me. Thick Leather may have a future use which we do not know yet and if John is looking into it, it may very well rise in price in the future.

Still that doesn’t mean there is any incentive to buy thick leather sections ever since the ascended armor patch. If you want Elonian Leather Squares, it is cheaper to just buy it off the TP than to craft it. The supply of thick leather sections dropped because many people have stopped selling it, hoping that its price would rise later.

This issue remains, there no reason for the demand spike unless many people just suddenly decide to be stupid and craft Elonian Leather Squares instead of buying them off the TP.

The most logical reason for this is, people believed what Markco said and bought Thick Leather Sections.

Basically, players who had previously been (foolishly, due to the net loss vs vendor) dumping all their leather on the TP had incentive to use it.

That would assume ALOT of people suddenly doing something foolish all around the same time. There has never been any incentive to buy thick leather sections ever since the patch. Based on gw2spidy chart, the demand spike was quite sudden. I still think that blaming speculators has a higher chance of being closer to the truth.

Markco’s blog predicted that silk scraps and thick leather sections would spike and he usually posts what he is going to write in his public blog, days AFTER posting it in his own private forums for his subscription-paying speculators first.

Crafting…not profitable….?

Okay, I guess you won’t be making mountains of gold with it, but you can still make some decent coin. Even if you don’t make money off of it, you can still save money by making all your own stuff.

….Especially since I managed to make 20g-40g this week from crafting alone >.>;

i make 30g a day selling material to people who crafts…..

You would need to somehow farm those materials to sell, and those methods that you have used to farm, are also available to people who craft.

However, if I am a crafter and wishes to make a profit from crafting, obviously I would only choose to craft those items that are worth more than their ingredients put together. This route of profit is only available for crafters who have obtained the relevant crafting rating in that discipline and have learnt the relevant recipes.

Depending on how diligent I am, I can earn much more than 30g a day from crafting. Since reaching level 80 and maxed my crafting disciplines, I have no need to craft unprofitable items just for the sake of XP anymore.

you do not need to gather materials to make a profit from crafting. i just buy everything from the tradepost and still make decent coin :P

^^ I typically see this and faceplam … you’re inability to efficiently source your materials is not a reason to make it easier to get them.

For example .. you needed Cayenne peppers and you ran around for HOURS getting 2? Do you realize that you could have made the 9 silver they cost to buy off TP in a 15 minute round of Orr trash farming? The problem here isn’t that there is a lack of nodes dropping peppers ….

yup

also, there are plenty of recipes that make money even if you buy everything from the trade post. usually it goes like this:

i check my math sheet and decide what to craft this day
buy 1 or more stacks per mat required to make the crafting items (anything less is not fast enough money)
do dailies
get mats from the tp
teleport around to get the karma materials in bulk i need to make today’s recipes
go to cooking master and buy the flour/water/sugar/.. i need
craft
sell
repeat the previous, once each day, for a couple of months
buy legendary

i do agree though that the nodes should be more random.. let me explain.
every once in a while you get that gray vendor trash gathering mat right? in stead of that, why don’t it give a random mat based of a dynamic list of materials that are above the by arenanet projected price. lore wise it could be something like “oh you found a hidden cayenne pepper under these onions”. and it would balance the material prices better. also better for the farmers, cause they will be getting expensive materials even when farming lower level nodes!

You lost me at math sheet……

Take a look at Ahamid’s Soldier Insignia as another example.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/7891

Currently, according to gw2spidy.com, it costs about 28g+ to craft one insignia but you can sell for almost 55g. This would grant you a profit of about 17g per insignia, after TP taxes.

But there are catches to this. 1. You need to craft 3 bolts of damask but you can only craft one per day. 2. It uses the minimum sale price of 54+g instead of the maximum offer price of 45g to compute profit. This means if you put a lot of insignia in the sell queue, at one go, there is a good chance that people would undercut you.

If you sell it instantly at 45g, you cannot be undercut but you would have a lower profit. For me, my preference is to go with a lower profit so that I don’t have to deal with people undercutting me. I personally prefer instant and guaranteed profits. Besides, my app provides a long list of profitable things to craft, sorted by profits, so that I can always target more than one market for profits. It is a cash cow that is always there for me to milk as long as I need gold.

its very possible, i have 800 gold all made with crafting and like 10 gold starting capital from leveling :p

Please do share your divine knowledge, cause I never made any profit ever.

haha you see, thats no something ill do cause then i will make less profit cause more people will demand the resources i need, and even less profit cause those people will also undercut me. i will tell you this though.

lets take omnomberry pie at this time:
you can sell omnomberry pies at 4s at the moment.

to make an omnomberry pie youd have to buy 1 omnomberry from the trade post, 1 butter from the TP, 1 lemon (karma, in bulk), 1 sugar;starch;flour;water each for 8c (10 for 80 copper or 8c a piece).
lets add it together:
omnomberry: 2s06c
butter: 48c
lemon: 0c (karma)
sugar: 8c
starch: 8c
flour: 8c
water: 8c
———————————————————
2s86c total to craft omnomberry pie
it sells for 4s00c right now, but you also have to consider the 15% tax soooo:
4s00c * (100 -15) / 100 = 3s40c money in your pocket, if you sell it for 4s00c

to sum up, it costs 2s86c to craft omnomberry pie, and you make 3s40 per pie, so that is 54 copper profit right there. now making one pie is kinda silly i know, but consider making a stack of pies. thats 250*54 copper, that is 1g35s00c profit. now if you do this every day, and with more then one profitable recipe, eventually you will get to 800g.

protip: look into google spreadsheets and gw2trade.com’s api system, mix both up and you might be able to keep track of ALL interesting recipes at once without having to spend hours calculating each day!

I wrote an app to do this for me. Realize that calculating the profit for selling more than one crafted item (e.g. Omnomberry pie) can be tricky. If you don’t do this right, you can even make a loss in the end.

The reason why it is tricky is because it depends on the availability of its ingredients being sold at certain prices. So how many Omnomberry pies can you make and sell at a profitable level depends also on how many of its ingredients you can buy at a cheap enough price.

this is buyed by speculators and not used from asc armor patch now

So speculators suddenly decided to buy lots and lots of Thick Leather Squares on Monday (12/16) for no apparent reasons that we know of? We had like 8 million+ Thick Leather Squares selling at 8c and that wall was broken through.

That is wierd….

Actually they didn’t. They started buying at the beginning of the month and it just took this long to deplete all the sell orders at 8c.

http://www.gw2tp.com/item/19729-thick-leather-section

Switch the chart to monthly and take a look at supply. True there’s a 2.5 million run on Monday but it had slipped some 5 million over the two weeks before that.

But what are speculators doing with these millions of Thick Leather, if they are not using them to craft Elonian Leather Squares? (i.e. it is cheaper to buy Elonian Leather Squares from the TP than to craft them right now)

….unless they are predicting a spike in Elonian Leather Squares prices soon, which would drive Thick Leather prices up?

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: DarkSpirit.7046

DarkSpirit.7046

Hi All,

Here is the next evolution of the original Vertical Progression proposal based on a summary of our discussions:

Regarding Ascended Gear we would like to see more ways to earn it and in terms of drop rates, a higher percentage chance of acquiring them through this method.

A review of current RNG metrics.

The ability to change gear stats (Note there is still a lot of discussion about whether people want this or not)

The ability to build up to Ascended Gear through drops rather than just relying on RNG.

Ascended Gear mats dropping more equally across the game, for example WvW.

No more new Gear tiers that make the existing tiers obsolete.

Additional ways to earn Ascended Gear at accelerated for Alts.

Note this is the formulation of a proposal for discussion. Once the proposal is finalized it will be discussed internally. However there will be no promise of actions or schedule.

Chris

Bump. We are close to being able to move onto the ‘focused’ Horizontal Progression part of this conversation.

Does anyone have anymore comments on the proposal above based on our discussions?

Chris

How much more time investment does ArenaNet expect from its players before they can acquire best-in-class equipment?

It used to be that just doing the dallies would be enough but not anymore. Now you need to do the dallies to get your laurels AND also farm world bosses for dragonite, AND farm champions for bloodstone dust AND farm jumping puzzles or WvW for your empyreal. This game has become a time-investment creep just to get the most effective gear!

I suggest as part of the reward for doing the dallies, give some amount of bloodstone dust + dragonite ore + empyreal fragments. Otherwise, we would have to acknowledge the fact that this game is not for busy people, unless they don’t mind wearing sub-optimal gear relative to their peers. Either that or make ascended gear or visual crystals (or its ingredients) able to be traded.

Allowance of creating a program

in API Development

Posted by: DarkSpirit.7046

DarkSpirit.7046

This doesn’t make it any better – see my edit above. Plus: compared to texmod, the TP API and therefore any software whic uses it accesses the game directly and has possibly an impact on the market.
Players in GW1 have been banned for less in the past.

According to the owner of gw2spidy, he has permission from ArenaNet to do what he does. His website has been up for more than a year now and if ArenaNet had wanted to stop him, they would have easily done it by now.

But if you still have the fear of being banned, then even more so that you should use gw2spidy api instead of the unofficial TP api. Gw2spidy api doesn’t require you to login, so your queries are unknown to ArenaNet since you are only hitting gw2spidy resources and database. The unofficial TP api however, requires a login.

Progression thread, so here are my thoughts/feeling; ignored as they will be.

1. Ascended Existence- One of the biggest bait and switch tactics done by a gaming company. From the manifesto to Colin Johanson: "Everyone, including casual gamers,
by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game.” http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-27-guild-wars-2-preview?page=3
It shouldn’t even exist, but here it is with all the current devs towing the company line of “We really meant for it to be in at the beginning, scouts honor. It wasn’t a complete kneejerk reaction to lure/keep traditional mmo content locusts.”

It really gets tiresome hearing Colins quote from the Manifesto again and again. It’s just a bad argument coming up with this since the live game is different than any concept of the game before release. If something isn’t working (people obviously left the game) you need to fix it for the good of the game. If players don’t like the 100% horizontal way of the game, devs have to come up with new directions.

The power-increase from exotic to ascended is marginal (5% for the full set) and in no part of the current content mandatory.

Seriously, if they’d still design true to the Manifesto, this would mean that they haven’t learned anything in the last year.

Even so, the quotes from Colin are still very important because many people actually bought this game due to those promises. How do you think they should react when these promises are broken after they have bought the game?

It doesn’t matter that it is only a 5% increase in power between exotic and ascended gear. Many players, including myself, just do not enjoy seeing their characters in outdated, less effective gear compared to the players around us.

FYI: GW2Spidy uses the trading post API aswell so it’s the same “grey zone” as if you would access directly.

But since you are using gw2spidy instead of accessing the TP api yourself, you are not in any risk of violating any terms, yourself.

It is a layer that shields you from any api changes, or any risk of violating ANet’s ToS which can get your GW2 access banned.

Furthermore, gw2spidy api is easier to program against. There are lots of examples, you only need http-gets and you don’t need to provide any login credentials. It is a totally public api.

Personally, I still don’t understand why they needed an ascended gear tier that can’t be bought or traded for, unless ArenaNet has made the decision to exclude casual gamers in GW2.

My previous understanding was that if I don’t want to farm for the best gear in the game due to the fact that I have too much responsibilities in real life, I can buy what I needed through paying real money for gems. That seems fair to me. However, by making the acquisition for ascended gear only possible by grinding through content, it excludes people who may not have that much time to grind through the game and ArenaNet also missed out on that opportunity to earn my money through gems. Now it is a lose-lose situation.

And if I do decide to take a hiatus from the game, the chance of me returning is going to be even slimmer because by then almost everyone would be wearing full deck ascended gear, my characters would feel outdated and there would be no way I could catch-up considering the amount of grind that I must do then.

It is not so much whether my characters can still be effective with only full exotic gear on, but it is the feeling of my characters being still relevant, by wearing the most effective gear. The fact remains that I just don’t like to play in a game where my characters would always feel inferior to those other characters around me, as long as I don’t grind as much as they have.

All of this has been answered before and you could even find it without the broken search function

The trading post API isn’t official. So any software using it would possibly violate the terms of use (basically reverse engineering). However, there was no official statement on that topic yet.

See also:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/TP-API-for-buy-orders-bannable/
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/Guide-to-the-Black-Lion-Trading-Co-API/

For your second question (applies to the official API):
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/How-frequently-is-it-OK-to-access-the-API/

Just to clarify, with the TP I’m only looking for the base info (current price (buy, order) and both listed amounts) as all I’m looking to make is a program for people looking to check up on their niche markets, while having the power to have information stored locally so they can see what times of the day specific items are moving and at what average flow rate.
thanks for the link to the second one

I’d love to be able to talk to someone who has experience in either C++ or Visual basic who can give me a hand getting started, as personally, I haven’t worked with API’s before and I’d like to make something to help people looking into market trading for the first time (as the “moguls” already know what is moving)
I only require a small push, as it were, as I “should” be able to get things “down pat” pretty quickly.

The easiest way to get at the information that you are looking for, is to use the gw2spidy api here:

https://github.com/rubensayshi/gw2spidy/wiki/API-v0.9

If you want to, you can also use the unofficial trading post API documented here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/Guide-to-the-Black-Lion-Trading-Co-API/first#post3307210

I would recommend you to use the gw2spidy api because then you can be 100% sure that you are not violating any terms of service, even though ArenaNet does not seem to mind us using that api to build legit programs so far. But more importantly, the unofficial TP api may change at any time without warning, since it is unofficial. Therefore it is safer to use the gw2spidy api.

Seriously? In WoW you have to be in good guild, raid a lot and you can’t be sure you’ll get anything in weeks..

Which was why I never wanted to play WoW. Saying that it is ok in GW2 because WoW is like this, doesn’t make this any better.

The last thing we need is to make GW2 into a WoW-wannabe.

Also gear treadmill would imply that there are tiers after tier after tiers non-stop every six months. Adding one and only one tier is hardly a treadmill. Would you call it a treadmill had ascended stuffs been released at launch at the cost of say roughly 1000g per item?

By your definition, then it is just not possible for ANY game to have a gear treadmill. An infinite number of gear tiers simply does not exist in real life and it is not possible to implement since computer resources are always limited.

Having a problem of reading comprehension do we? I never said anything about infinite number of gear tiers.

1. Releasing new tiers after tiers non-stop every six months does not imply anything about infinite tiers. I can keep counting 1,2,3,4,5,… til I die and wouldn’t able to reach infinity and it would still be able to consider “non-stop” but it’s relative to my lifespan. The word non-stop in that paragraph is relative to the lifespan of the game only. As time passes games that keep releasing new tiers provide an example of gear treadmill. Games like WoW is an example of gear treadmill. They release new and more power tier as time goes on with expansion as clearly exemplified by previous expansions.
2. Guild Wars 2 has a stop. There won’t be another tier after ascended as officially announced during interview.

That’s where the difference lie.

There is no game under heaven that releases a new gear tier every six months non-stop. So by your ridiculous definition, there is just no game that has a gear treadmill.

No game dev team, in their right minds, would waste their resources on adding a new gear tier every six months, non-stop.

XD You should check out Rappelz, and other Korean grindfests. WoW is another example though milder, maybe not every six months for this game, but definitely every year or so.

They did not come up with a new gear tier every 6 months, non-stop, so by your biased definition, they don’t have a gear treadmill either.

“keep the prices high” – LOL
damask; sure. it’s been out 4 days and there is very little supply. time-gating ONLY dramatically affects prices in the short term.
but look at elonian leather, which is also in high demand for leatherworker. even deldrimor (for armorsmith). logs don’t make my point as clearly.
elonian leather square costs 1g36s60c to make and will sell on the TP for 1g36s60c. after tax, that’s a whopping -21s36c profit (yes; you lose 21s by selling it)
deldrimor steel ingot costs 3g56s50c to make and will sell for 4g58s30c for 33s5c profit. at least it’s above zero.
point being that the ascended materials that were already out are already equalized even though they are time-gated. that negates any time-gating: if you want ascended medium armor, it is literally cheaper to buy all the ascended material than to make it yourself. If it weren’t time-gated, it wouldn’t get too cheap because people would know how it much it costs to make and not make it if they couldn’t make a profit selling it.
making time-gated stuff TPable negates any time-gating effect in the long run. in the short run, all it will do is prevent everyone and their grandmother from having the ascended armor they can afford for a short length of time.

Even though Elonian Leather Square prices have fallen, their prices would be even LOWER if they were not time-gated. The reason why their prices have fallen is because speculators, have accumulated lots of them before the ascended armor patch, are anxious to unload them and earn whatever they can right now. This is indicated by the fact that their prices started to fall right after the ascended armor patch. Over time, their prices would start to equalize.

If everyone can make more than one bolt of damask per account per day, then its price would not be anywhere as high as it is now.

Just what the hell would be wrong with that? I play light armor characters. I should have to pay through the nose for my gear while thief and warriors are walking around in their gear today?

I did the work to get my crafting done on multiple characters. Why don’t I get the reward for that, as well as my light armor?

Bolt of Damask is a both a crafted material and a crafting material. If the value of Bolt of Damask falls, then there would be fewer incentive for people to get their crafting level to 450, as what they craft would not be as valuable as the ingredients that they put into it. Therefore crafting would not be profitable again even for ascended materials.

Would that be better? Not really, since that would make crafting less desirable. Why would anyone bother making something that is more expensive to make than to buy them off the TP? This would also affect the lesser cloth materials used to make bolt of damask and make gathering them less valuable. Fewer people would bother to make new characters and makes playing in lower level areas less incentivizing.

The reason for the limitation of 1 per account per day is to keep their prices high. If everyone can make more than one bolt of damask per account per day, then its price would not be anywhere as high as it is now.

Take Elonian Leather Square and Deldrimor Steel Ingot, for example. Even though you can only make one of those per account per day, their prices have fallen. Why? Because people made too many of those before the ascended armor patch.

or the GW2 way.

for all we know by the end of 2014 start of 2015 Ascended may be far more common, sell in AH or reward/drops in content.

Never experienced raids, never played WoW. Why? Too expensive and too time intensive which was why I played GW1 instead and moved to GW2, thinking it would be similar in design philosophy to GW1. Wrong! Turns out GW2 is a totally different beast from GW1, it is as if it was created by a totally different company.

This is why we have an option to buy ingame gold & pay your way to 500 crafting plus ascended gear. Comes down to either you have time to play the game or pay the game, choice is yours.

And this is where you go wrong, but it is a common mistake people make when they assume that they can just pay their way into acquiring all needed ascended gear.

Ascended gear crafting recipes are designed in such a way that there 2 major components. 1 major component can be paid through with lots of gold. The other major component are account-bound items like the vision crystals and its account-bound ingredients. These can never be bought, so you have to grind for those, no way out. This is why ANet described ascended gear as being a “time-gated” reward.

You’re right, I assumed he would play some portion of the game to attain those materials. The easiest mats needed to craft too.

Lesser/reg Vision Crystal
Skill points- Just play the way you do.
Laurels- Just play the way you do. Recipe.
Dragonite/Empyreal/Bloodstone- Can all be attained by some of the easiest content ingame. World bosses, WvW, JP
Obsidian-Just play the way you do, w/multiple different ways to buy.

With GW2stuff overlay, you can knock out most world bosses, daily, & LA JP’s within a hour. The rest can be attained through gold. Like many we put aside other activities ingame when Anet first mentioned Ascended, and started farming (above mentioned) for Armor/Weapons as soon as ascended weapons were released.

This is a MMO, not a console rpg. This is not Guild Wars 1, I wonder how many times the devs have to tell players this to get through.

If you want to play a game where everyone is equal MMO’s are not your kind of game, and should start looking elsewhere. MMO’s can be played as a “casual” just don’t expect to be top tier best in slot.

Yes getting all the account-bound materials over a period of time is not hard as long as there are people zerking with you. But it still requires a substantial time investment over repeated content

doesn't it?
And what do we call this? A grind.

How did ArenaNet reach the decision that ascended gear should be account-bound?

Izzy: I just mentioned that we like rewards that are balanced between time and money investment – well, exotic gear was almost entirely gated by money, so many players were able to acquire that tier of gear very quickly, which weakened all the rewards in the game. The whole goal of ascended gear as to provide more reward and progression which mean by nature it needed to not be tradable so there’s a time investment. This was also a way to funnel more of the economy and content types into their acquisition.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/87773-interview-with-arenanet-economist-john-smith-and-lead-designer-izzy-cartwright/

Seems like ascended gear is a time-gated, vertical progression, gear treadmill to me.

You would know it when you feel the extra damage on your full exotic behind.

Or they could just use sentinels / knight / of the knight sets spec in full tanking + ascended trinket but only exotic armor. So unless you are ANet and can monitor the stat, you really can’t tell. There are just too much unknown variables.

If you are familiar enough in WvW to know what the rough damage numbers from a full exotic member of the class should dish out, you should be able to gauge if the guy has extra damage from ascended gear or not.

Besides, if he doesn’t bother to transmute his skins, you should be able to tell, for sure, that he is using ascended weapons/armor.

You know.. I have a family and a full time job, and like video games. I decided to get this game cause it was supposed to be balanced. Your win/lose situation on WvWvW (I don’t play dungeons) would depend on player’s ability, not on gear.

Solution: If you are a casual gamer, simply stop playing WvWvW and Fractals, which needs the extra power from ascended gear and the agony resistance.

Skip the harder dungeons too if it helps. If this doesn’t work out for you then quit, you are a casual gamer anyway, you can come back to the game anytime.

You don’t know if your enemy has full ascended.

You would know it when you feel the extra damage on your full exotic behind.

TP question for developers

DarkSpirit.7046

Why is this a big deal if everyone has equal ability to access it?

It is not a big deal. ArenaNet would want to have GW2 everywhere, in every device so anyone can play GW2 anytime and anywhere. Especially when it costs them zero dev resources to achieve it, as it would be done by third party devs.

That includes accessing their gem store from anywhere which is tied to the TP since gems are how people convert real money into gold so that they have enough to buy what they like on the TP for instant gratification, so all these make sense.

There are no apps that allow you access to buying and selling outside of the game. Yet another conspiracy thread.

I misread, apparently you can’t sell, but I’m sure it’s coming. As for buying, debunk this…

Is it possible to buy with this api or merely watch prices?

Yes it is possible to buy. For buy, you have to do a https post

https://tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net/ws/item/<itemId>/buy

with the following parameters:

{count=int,price=int,charid=<char guid>}

You also need your game session key.

Yes you can buy but not sell through the unofficial TP api at the moment, so they are less than optimal.

Once ArenaNet has OAuth 2 up and running on their official api, hopefully we would all be able to buy and sell from our mobile devices.
