How does Anet handing out all the items translate to everyone looking the same or having the same uniform? Are you going to seriously suggest that everyone would run around with the exact same gear?

That is what you are saying. There would be no loot, no gold, no gems, and everyone just gets the same stuff from ArenaNet as handouts. This way, everyone would be equal and would look equal by wearing the same uniform like in communist countries and prisons.

If you want to earn as much gold as the rest of the players that you see, then pick up your lazy kitten and work for it!

If work is required, then it isn’t a game. It’s just another job.

If work is not required, then there would no such thing as gold or gems or loot and everybody would just be handed out the same stuff from ArenaNet.

The only problem comes when people buy not to use, but to sell higher. Of course they won’t always make a profit, but in the process they still make things more expensive for others, when they didn’t even need the stuff, and just bought the entire stock of something cheap just because they could.

There are lots of examples of that in the real world for decades and people do not have any problems with it. For example, the stock market. Most people dont buy stocks to actually use it to control the company. They buy in the hopes of selling it when it hits a higher price. Is that wrong?

Like in everything else in real life, the luxury goods that almost everyone wants to get, are expected to be expensive because of demand and supply. Are legendaries suppose to be dirt cheap? Of course not!

It is ridiculous to ask for AreaNet’s intervention just so that you can afford luxury item X. It is called “working for it”. In the real world, most people don’t go to work simply because they have nothing to do, so they decided to make some other people rich through their “blood and sweat.” They go to work so that they can afford to buy the things that they really want.

In the same way, either people trade in real money for gold or they grind for gold in this game one way or another instead of just doing what they feel like doing, found out that other people are earning more than them, then complain to ArenaNet for intervention!

If you want to earn as much gold as the rest of the players that you see, then pick up your lazy kitten and work for it! Not asking for ArenaNet’s intervention all the time because that would be the lazy way of solving your financial issues!

An increase in the tax rate would simply get passed on to consumers, with a little bit being absorbed by sellers. It would not be an effective tax on the rich.

So what would be an effective tax on the rich, and when will it be implemented?

Why does there need to be an effective tax just for the rich in the first place?

Market movement tool

If this has been answered before, please forgive me, as the search function in the forums doesn’t seem to be working for me.

Is there a tool/website that measures market movement on a specific item? For example; x item has sold y times in z hours/days/weeks.

Thank you in advance. I’m trying to get into tp flipping and looking for tools to plan things out in advance.

We can’t tell if the x items were really sold or if some of them were simply removed by their sellers. Similarly when buy orders are removed, you can’t tell if they were filled or they were simply removed by their owners, especially when they are undercutting one another.

You can look at the graphs in gw2spidy that show the changes in buy/sell offers over time and make your own assumptions.

But please allow me ask: According to your (or everybody else’s) professional expertise, what would be “an effective tax on the rich” that would help to fight the dire income inequality within the game? Or is this social inequality among player characters something we just have to accept as set in stone?

That is an ideology called socialism that strives to achieve the same ideals as you, but it fails miserably because people are intrinsically different.

If you give everyone the same level pay, then there is no incentive to work harder or smarter than everyone else or to improve yourself compared to everyone else.

Useful tools & websites for BLTC playing?

DarkSpirit.7046

Don’t recall the name, but there is a very powerful utility tool available (or at least it was) that did some serious number crunching to show what crafting was profitable in near real time. The downside was you had to enter your account log in credentials so the program could access the TP and that is a risk I’m not willing to take with my account security.

The author of the tool is a regular here (found out about it in this forum) and seriously think it’s a trustworthy program, but I’m just too cynical to trust any 3rd party program with my account log in info.

That is precisely the sort of situation that ArenaNet would have solved when they get their OAuth2 implementation working on their apis, so you don’t need to hand over your credentials to a third party application.

Bank/Bag sale: THANK YOU.

Their recommendations change based on pricing every hour.

http://www.gw2crafts.net/

Also:

This script does assume there are “infinite” of an item at a given cost, so if they all get bought up, or there is very few available during the update window prices may be wrong until the next update.

I have developed my own crafting tool that doesn’t assume “infinite” and gets current prices because assuming “infinite” is risky and can lead you to lose money if you decide to craft more than one.

Auto outbidding bots are annoying yes, but they don’t make a lot of profits for the botter. Think about it, every time it outbids, the botter’s profit gets further cut.

Another question to ask is, is it always most profitable to be offering the max price? What has the market been like for this item in terms of supply and demand? What were the max/min/average offer prices? Simply outbidding everyone may not be the most profitable thing to do every time.

There is a lot more gold to be made through market analysis like what gw2spidy provides and more.

I personally prefer fast over normal since the time I spend putting offers on the materials needed and the actual crafting I might aswell been out farming the gold-difference back. Or what usually is the case, doing something fun.

I suppose that is how we make gold from the TP, we should thank the people who sacrifice profit for convenience.

It took me like 5 pages of regular expressions to get all the items. It only includes sigils and runes worth like 20s or more, so it’s not complete, but I figure if the rune is worth any less than that, it won’t be profitable to salvage anyways.
else if(preg_match(“/Yakkington\’s/”,$row[‘name’])) $socket=“Superior Rune of the Traveler”;
if(preg_match(“/Shaman’s |Tahlkora’s |Reyna’s |Jalis\’ /”,$item[‘name’])) $craft=“Shaman’s Intricate Gossamer Insignia”;
and my favorite:
else if(preg_match(“/ of /”,$item[‘name’])) $socket=preg_replace(‘/(.?) of (.?)/i’,“Superior Rune of $2”,$item[‘name’]);

I replied to your PM on how to get the upgrade for the item through the official items API. The API docs are here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/API

It doesn’t provide you with insignia information though but you can try pushing for them (ANet) to provide that information in the API forum. I am sure that many people would support that.

In my PM to you, I showed you the JSON record for Yakkington’s Greaves as an example. Here is how you can access that record through the official API:

I just use excel when I play the market. If you know excel well enough then you can really cut down on the time you spend analyzing items.

Yes you can use Excel too if you know it well enough. The tricky part is to get the insignia and upgrade from the item name which you can write code to parse those out. I recommend using regular expressions. If you also know how to use the official items API, you can extract the upgrade information from the item id. This was why I pushed for Cliff (ANet) to provide Upgrade information in their api. For insignia, the api doesn’t provide that, you have to provide that information yourself.

If you want to make it even more generic, you can also add support for named armor/weapons.

I did say “BLSK vs. MSK is actually based on what the salvaged materials are worth, but that’s harder to calculate, especially quickly” It took me like 10 min to write up those two examples, and I had the prices on-hand. If someone who’s never dealt in these before were advised to do that for every exotic they find, they would just throw up their hands and sell it instead.

I understand that it is harder to calculate quickly which was why I wrote a script to access gw2spidy api to make that determination of whether to salvage or to sell. It was a bit of a pain to extract upgrade information from the item using Javascript. If I have a website, I would put it up so that others can benefits from this too but I don’t.

The worth of the upgrade and insignia from the salvage are important factors to consider when you want to decide if the item should be salvaged or sold or which salvage kit to use.

Yes and here is the breakdown for named armor:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor

The insignia/inscriptions that can be salvaged are rabid, dire, magi’s, shaman’s, cavalier’s, and soldier’s. However, you can’t salvage the insignia/inscription from crafted versions of those armor/weapons (i.e. those without runes/sigil suffixes).

The insignia/inscriptions and upgrades of named armor/weapons are less apparent so there are usually profit-making opportunities by buying and salvaging them, but not always.

You forgot Sentinels, which is also salvagable. As Exotic Sentinel Gear only dropped during the Molten Facility Dungeon, there basically was no supply of those weapons/armor but with the Ultimate Citizens Rescue Bag, they dropped again temporarily.

You can get exotic sentinel insignia/inscription from the Guild Commendation Trader for 80s and 10 commendations.

I didn’t know that you can still salvage the sentinel’s exotic insignia/inscription from exotic armor/weapons? If so, someone should update the wiki.

Thanks for this. Very useful. One question, I don’t seem to find magi’s, cavalier’s, and soldier’s from the http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor. How are these 3 insignia salvaged?

They are not exclusive to the named armor/weapons. They are also salvaged from other exotic armor, with the relevant prefix, that drop as loot and some are sold on the TP. (e.g. Shaman’s Duelist Mask of Melandru for the Shaman insignia and so on)

How do you figure out Jalis’ Armor can give you Shaman Insignia? Just because it is a named armor? Any other named armor also gives insignia?

Yes and here is the breakdown for named armor:

Any armor that is not crafted and has stats of an insignia that cannot be crafted, has a chance to salvage the insignia off it. Jalis Armor has Shaman stats. Not sure though, if it also applies to celestial. I dont think there is any celestial armor in game, that is not crafted, but a couple of weapons might salvage into celestial inscription.

I don’t think it is currently possible to get celestial inscription or insignia from salvaging.

It is interesting to see some of the first items you ever bought though. Ectos were worth a lot cheaper then, as I used to buy them at 12s 83c each.

I wrote an app that tries to match the items that I am selling now with items that I bought so as to estimate how much profit I would make from the sale, if successful. Or how much profit/loss I would make if I re-list the item.

But as my past transactions lengthen, it keeps requesting for longer and longer listings until I decided to save my past transactions as a json file on my drive and merge the lists whenever I launch the app, so now it doesn’t need to request so far into my past transactions.

Now that their server would only keep up to 90 days of past transactions, what I did became even more useful as I would always have a record of all my past transactions to the release date because I have cached them on my drive.

As a general rule, I would use a Master SK to salvage anything you buy for under 4g. Above 4g, and it might have something about it that would benefit from a BLSK. BLSK do cost around 1g each use, so you should make their uses count. BLSK vs. MSK is actually based on what the salvaged materials are worth, but that’s harder to calculate, especially quickly.

I don’t see the logic of your general rule. Take the Carrion Acolyte Pants of Divinity, right now you can buy it with a buy order of 5g 20s 69c. If you use a BLSK, you are guaranteed to be able to obtain the Superior rune of divinity from it, which you can sell for 8g 41s 50c sell order. Sure you can be lucky and still get the upgrade with 80% chance from your MSK, but if not, you may not be able to turn a profit.

With BLSK you have a 61% chance of salvaging the insignia/inscription too if you buy an exotic with a salvageable insignia/inscription. With MSK, that chance drops to about 42%. You can sell a salvageable insignia for about 3g+.

Plus you get 1.75 ectos/salvage on average with a BLSK vs 1.27 ectos/salvage on average with MSK on a level 68+ exotic. Therefore, for the guarantee of getting the upgrade, you can still turn a profit if the calculations are right.

=

Another example, you can buy Yakkington’s Pauldron for 8g 33s 11c and sell the Superior rune of the Traveler for 9g 85s 97c. Not quite a profit considering the high price of salvage of the BLSK. But if you do get the Dire insignia from it (61% chance), you can sell it for 3g 11s 93c which would more than cover for the cost. Otherwise, hope to get 3 ectos.

Salvaging exotics is a way of getting ectos and dark matter. But it is risky with low profits, and you are not guaranteed to turn a profit. Furthermore, it is a highly competitive market with an auto outbid bot watching over the buy orders. It is not a good market for profits but I take that risk sometimes for dark matter and ectos. It is certainly not my main source of income that’s for sure. Definitely not a 10g in10mins investment, regardless of whether you logout or not. And if you do logout, good luck getting the exotic with your buy order as the bot and others would outbid you when it comes to a good deal.

I think you should re-read what I said. I said: 3g = MSK, 5g = BLSK. I was a bit wrong – I would say 3g would be a better cutoff to use.
Let’s do some examples:
Yakkington’s Paudrons. costs 8.3g, can give superior rune of the traveler (9.4g) and dire insignia (3g) and ecto
with MSK, costs 61c to salvage, 80% chance of traveler rune (7.5g) + 42% chance of insignia (1.26g) + 1.25 ecto (48s) = 9.2g back – 15% tax = 7.85g – 8.3g to buy it = kitten loss
with BLSK, costs 1.1g to salvage, 100% chance of traveler rune (9.4g) + 61% chance of insignia (1.83g) + 1.65 ecto (63s) = 11.86g – 15% – 1.1g kit = 8.98g – 8.3g to buy it = 68s profit
8.3g is higher than 3g, which is why we use BLSK

Now for lower:
Jalis’ Pauldrons. costs 2.5g, can give superior rune of the Dolyak (2.3g) and shaman insignia (2.9g) and ecto
with MSK, costs 61c to salvage, 80% chance of dolyak rune (1.84g) + 42% chance of insignia (1.22g) + 1.25 ecto (48s) = 3.54g back – 15% tax = 3g – 2.5g to buy it = 50s profit
with BLSK, costs 1.1g to salvage, 100% chance of dolyak rune (2.3g) + 61% chance of insignia (1.77g) + 1.65 ecto (63s) = 4.7g – 15% – 1.1g kit = 2.89g – 2.5g to buy it = 39s profit
2.5g is lower than 3g, which is why we use MSK
of course, if you get BLSK for free, then use them anywhere you want!

Still seem to me that the price of the rune and the insignia should be taken into account instead of just going with the buy price of the exotic.

In your example, if Yakkington’s Pauldrons is selling dirt cheap at 2.5g instead of 8.3g, by your rule you would be using MSK, but:

with MSK, costs 61c to salvage, 80% chance of traveler rune (7.5g) + 42% chance of insignia (1.26g) + 1.25 ecto (48s) = 9.2g back – 15% tax = 7.85g – 2.5g to buy it = 5.35g

with BLSK, costs 1.1g to salvage, 100% chance of traveler rune (9.4g) + 61% chance of insignia (1.83g) + 1.65 ecto (63s) = 11.86g – 15% – 1.1g kit = 8.98g – 2.5g to buy it = 6.48g profit

You would get more profit using BLSK instead.

Where are you getting these 61% chance? It clearly says on the kit that you have a 50% chance at recovering rare materials.

Insignia is not a rare material. I saw this figure in a number of forums through experiments done by others. About 60% chance of obtaining an insignia from an exotic using BLSK seems about right although I have not salvaged as much.

That depends, I have been salvaging cheap exotics from the TP for a long time now. If you are using a BL Salvage kit, that would be about the cost of 1g/salvage. Most of the time, you need to place buy orders to be profitable. And there is at least 1 auto-outbidding bot that is frequently on that “cheap exotic with worthy salvageable rune/insignia/sigil/inscription” market and it usually buys in quantity of 2. It would auto outbid you very quickly. Your best bet is to do this while the east coast of the US is sleeping since the botter doesn’t seem to run it overnight for fear of detection by ANet.

As a general rule, I would use a Master SK to salvage anything you buy for under 4g. Above 4g, and it might have something about it that would benefit from a BLSK. Or you craft Destroyer Weapons that don’t even need Skillpoints. The question is however how long it takes to sell them. The last i crafted was shortly before Queens Jubilee and that one was finally sold after 6 months or so .. lol

The most profitable items to craft are not destroyer weapons, especially if you are going for instant gold through buy orders so that you wont be undercut by others. You can be misled by gw2spidy if you don’t know how they arrived at their profit calculations. Furthermore, strictly speaking, gw2spidy profits only apply to crafting 1 item because the prices of your ingredients can change as you buy up your cheapest ingredients to craft more.

Not counting those that require dungeon tokens, I would say that Queen’s Jubilee recipe items are among the most profitable (e.g. Superior Rune of Resistance or Minor Sigil of Renewal). After that, comes the ascended inscriptions like Angchu Cavalier inscription or Grizzlemouth’s Rabid inscription, if you have the Dark matter. Then comes things like Deldrimor Steel Ingot or Deldrimor Steel Legging Panel, etc.

Don’t just look at one price, look at the total number of buy orders that you can profit from. This is why the gw2spidy profit numbers are not good enough, you have to also look at the actual total offers that you can profit from, not just the best single offer as you can usually craft more than one.

250 Orichalcum Greatsword Blades crafted from 750 Orichalcum Ingot (upgraded from Mithril) = 21g 13s 59c

Hm .. how do you do that ? You need 1500 Orichalcum .. they cost a little over 75 Gold at the moment.
Can’t see how you do that so cheap with the Mystical Force Receipes :

Orichalcum Ingot
Source Mystic Forge
Type Ingot Promotion
Output qty. 10 – 40

Ingredients
250 Mithril Ingot
1 Orichalcum Ingot
5 Pile of Crystalline Dust
10 Philosopher’s Stone

If you get 25 Ori, you have to do that 30 times
thats 150 Crytsaline Dust and 7500 Mithril Ingot

30g for the Dust
59g for the Mithril

I found a bug in my generated mystic forge recipe due to the way jewelry ores are treated versus common ores. My bad.

Here is a replacement: Jormag’s Breath.

Crafting Cost: 576800
               0 Karma
               80 Skill Point[s]
1x Jormag's Breath CRAFT(576800)
  50x Mystic Coin TP(7900)
  100x Orichalcum Sword Blade CRAFT(301500)
    300x Orichalcum Ingot TP(301500)
  50x Corrupted Lodestone CRAFT(267400)
    100x Corrupted Core TP(41900)
50x Bottle of Elonian Wine VENDOR(128000)
50x Pile of Crystalline Dust TP(97500)
    50x Crystal SKILLPOINT VENDOR(30)
  1x Eldritch Scroll SKILLPOINT VENDOR(50)

Profit = 8g 43s 10c instant gold from buy order

Not quite 10g but you can always make more than 1 of them if you have the available skill points.

You can always make Foefire’s Essence or The Crossing instead for a better Profit-to-skill point ratio but for that, you need the Gift of Ascalon or the Gift of Knowledge respectively.

…pure profit based solely on instant buy orders just from the mystic forge…

What do you mean by this? Can you explain this further please?

Thanks.

4 words: “Vision of the mists”
Go earn your profits…

uhh, so you are suggesting that you create “Vision of the mists” at the mystic forge and sell it with a buy order and that is how you (at least one way) make your money?

I’ve never used the mystic forge before, seemed like a huge waste of time and mats to me tbh (pour in a ton of mats for … something? …maybe? What a crock of kittens)

So while your riddle of an answer prompted me to google that weapon, it did not totally answer my question in a way that is understandable to me, given my lack of experience with the mystic forge (loot toilet?)

Ok so crafting cost is about 119g. From:
100 mystic coin = 1g 68s 00
250 ectos = 96g 35s
250 Orichalcum Greatsword Blades crafted from 750 Orichalcum Ingot (upgraded from Mithril) = 21g 13s 59c
1 Eldritch Scroll = 50 skill points

Buy order price = 190g
Profit = (190 * 0.85) – 119 = about 42g 50s each instant gold

If you still don’t believe in the profit then count it as an early April Fool’s joke.

I am at work now so I can’t check for you. It has been profitable for a few days now but if you are looking at that website for profit values, it is buggy. Either that or somebody else who read this post has beaten you to it.

Your buy orders and sell listings are still active once you log out. The OP wanted ~50g profit with playing 10 minutes 5 times a week.

I am pretty sure that being forced to logout while waiting for hours outside the game is not what the OP has in mind.

I’m pretty sure placing buy orders and sell listings then logging out is exactly what OP had in mind. no way are you going to make 10g from 10 min of champ farming.

to OP, I’m going to recommend ecto/inscription/insignia salvaging. place buy orders for select rares and exotics, log out for the day, come back next day, salvage everything, sell list everything, place new buy orders, repeat. you can easily make 10g in 10 min. some items can give 1g profit per item. admittedly, only a few of those go through, but let’s say you place buy orders on 30 different items (maybe 5 items each; costs you around 200g), you will likely have 15 items to salvage the next day = 15g profit.
It doesn’t scale very well: the more you invest, the lower the profit per item, to the point where it’s only like 10s per item, where it’s not really worth your time. 10g/day is easily doable, but 100g/day is much more than 10 times as hard.

I would second that. Salvaging exotic insignias and inscriptions that are not craftable is a very profitable business and in my opinion, the best specific advice yet on this topic to make 10 gold (on average) with just 10 minutes of your time.

Why is that so? Because the salvage rate of isnignias/inscriptions is not documented as good on the wiki as for example ecto salvage rates and upgrade salvage rates (which are determined by the salvage kit you use and is fixed). Its also way harder to filter the tp towards a group of gear that offers insignias/inscriptions for salvage due to named armor sets and weapons.

I know that mystic and me have a far higher sample size of salvaging those than the wiki offers, through pms. Personally, i salvaged over 2k exotic sentinel gear (which droprates got reintroduced into the economy after Flame&Frost with the Ultimate Citizens Rescue Bag /UCRB) for defeating Scarlet). This profit scheme is over but i would just like to explain how i profited so much from it.
If you search the tp for sentinel items and put the filter to exotic, you will get 99 items.
18 are crafted for each armor profession, plus 19 for each crafted weapon and plus 3 for sentinels bane and the inscription and insignia. So overall, 49 exotic weapons and armor with sentinel stats got reintroduced through a possible drop from the UCRB. You might have never got a drop of those but in general, the market got flooded with those without being noticed. As their supply was pretty scarce before the last LS updates, nobody knew that you could actually salvage Sentinel Inscriptions and Insignias. I knew because i checked. And in those 4 weeks I salvaged about 2k exotic Sentinel gear, which i got between 1-2g (due to the increased drop rate) and sold them between 7-10g. At the start, i used up all my BL savage kits on this but later found out that master salvage kits would yield the same profit, if not more.
You wonder why i make so much profit? Its because i take a chance and know a market before anybody else. I told this tip to some people in my guild, they bought some sentinel gear directly and salvaged 5 of them for 1 insignia, not making much of a profit.
At that time, I salvaged more than 1000 and they wouldnt believe me that i would make a couple of gold profit per salvage.

If you want to make good profit on the tp, dont look for flipping or speculating, look for items that drop much due to the current game meta and look what profit you can make out of it.

Many people argued that the price of lodestones went down during the Escape/Battle for LA LS due to the 6 champ bags from the Knights or genertal farm. But who of you whould have figured that the mayority of Charged Lodestone Supplies would have come from:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvageable_Twisted_Watchwork_Scrap
and
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvageable_Aetherized_Metal_Scrap
which both dropped aplenty from regular mobs in that time?

I don’t think I have ever recommended doing champ farming for gold. But depending on the number of available skill points that he has, he can easily get >30g to 200g pure profit based solely on instant buy orders just from the mystic forge, without the need to logout and wait. I am impatient that way.

The problem with people is that they over rely on buggy websites that misled them from actual profits.

Champ farming was a TERRIBLE way to try and make gold. It was mainly for XP, crafting materials, karma, and luck, none of which are impacted by this change.

If you were farming champs for the gold drops… I mean… I don’t even know what to say…. maybe “don’t”?

I am not focusing on gold for champ farming, I just want my skill points.

it’s only bottlenecked by the speed of the trading post, all you have to actually do is place buy orders for stacks of 250 items, then place sell orders for the same stacks

You need to earn 10g in 10 mins. I have my doubts on that approach, not to mention people undercutting you, etc. Your approach is too slow.

The best way to ensure that you get that within the time limit is to sell through buy orders so you can get your gold instantly.

IF youre really good, you can make 10g on 10 min game time per day playing the tp.
But usually, you wont be good at playing the tp while only logging 10 min day.

That and the low risk/high velocity options tend to be fairly time intensive. I know people talk about “playing the TP” as an easy, quick thing with instant results, but it really doesn’t work like that. Simplifying it down to X gold per Y minutes really doesn’t fit.

On my trading account, i make more than 1g per minute. Much depends on your starting capital though.

But if you only spent 1 minute a day, I’d venture to say you wouldn’t make 1g per day. Likewise, an additional 500 minutes per day of effort from you likely wouldn’t increase your earnings by 500g per day. (It may be more, it may be less, but it’s extremely unlikely to be the same.) There’s a limited range of scaling, but at some point, you’re no longer making the same gold/time ratio. While you can still average it out (say I made 240g this week in 4 hours of trading, I made 1g/hr) the numbers don’t actually end up meaning anything because it’s not a fixed ratio.

Yeah I know what you mean, for TP trading it is usually a diminishing return over time, unless you are farming certain areas in the game.

It is not hard to get 10g in 10 mins, I can show you a way to get > 20g right now instantly from the TP for a particular item, just through its buy orders so you wont even be undercut by others, but it will be a diminishing return over time. You can earn even more if you sell through sell orders but that wont be instant gold now would it?

You can always target some other market/items which have good profits even if they are slightly lower returns and move on from there. In total, you can earn a lot more and certainly possible to get more than 100g in a day if you work towards that.

It’s easy to say that, but it’s actually really hard in practice to not only BE the kind of person you describe, but to also find others who are like that, who you trust, who you’re simultaneously friends with… With all of the requirements as you specified, it sounds like a utopian guild I fear does not exist. Maybe a few do here and there with 4-8 people in them, but surely they aren’t recruiting people like the OP haphazardly, and wouldn’t advertise themselves open for admission in the first place.

I don’t know, sounds like an exclusive country club for old men to me… It’d be awesome to be in it, but impossible to get in it. Good luck to the OP, though.

In the beginning, the guild can advertise to find like-minded individuals, with simple goals to make profits, but when it has grown to the point that it can manipulate the economy, it has to be a highly secretive order, hidden away from the radar of ArenaNet. I won’t be surprised if such orders already exist but you wont see them recruiting out in the open.

Like most organizations in real life, the newbies would have to make sacrifices for the guild more than the other way round to prove their loyalty for a period of time before being admitted into the inner circle.

Well, that fear is valid. Sharing creates competition, and why make it harder on yourself to make money? Sure they could discuss different things besides what they’re working on, but… It sounds more like the guild would be used by hawks trying to get into other peoples’ secret markets. Just doesn’t sound like a good guild to me. :P

That is why, as always, you should vet the people who want to join and only let them into the inner circle of privileges when they have slowly earned your trust and contributed to the guild.

No offense but Wanze’s guild doesn’t sound like a trader’s guild at all, more like a WvW guild with 1 trader. The OP is looking for like-minded people who are traders and who have come together to form a guild. They may even invest in different areas and work together for a common interest instead of stepping on one another’s toes while investing for themselves. If done correctly, the guild can be very powerful and even own several markets in the economy.

Ultimately, OP, just find some friends who TP frequently and chat with them about it. I highly doubt that guilds exist who discuss things like it too frequently if only because then they would be bidding against each other and ruining each other’s investments. My best money-making schemes are the ones I don’t tell my guild about until after I’ve made hundreds of gold off of them.

That can be prevented if they have more than one way of investing. There are many ways of earning gold at any one time. Unfortunately most people are too afraid of competition to share.

As I understand it is equivalent to the basic salvage kit, but between that and the crude there isnt much of a diference if one just wants to salvage blues and greens for essence?

Thanks.

Mmm, I’m not sure about that. It seems to be linked more to the fact that somebody could just buy it outright with gems. As an example, you could just buy Legendaries by converting gems to gold too, but that same sense of outrage isn’t there. I’ll be the first to point out to these players that disguising the purchase behind one extra step really doesn’t make a difference, but curiously it seems that that distinction makes a huge deal to a lot of players.

Gems is gold and gold is gems. I don’t know why this reality ever since day 1 hasn’t sinked in to some people.

If the gem store sells it as > 119g in gems then logically they are selling it at a more expensive price than they can get in the game.

DarkSpirit.7046

Heh. Alright, I’ll award you that point. Most GW2 players do indeed don’t post on the forums. But of those that did, the overwhelming majority were against the Flamekissed armor. I don’t use reddit or other GW2 fansites, but I’ve been told the reception there was negative as well.

I think the complaint was that they were selling the Flamekissed too cheaply. Like I said, if it is more expensive than 119g, people would tend to shut up about it.

It may just be down to tastes. I generally appreciate armor and weapons for the fine details on them, not so much particle effects. (I haven’t gotten a Legendary because I think all of them are over the top, for example.) While the Ascended armors don’t suit my tastes either, I could appreciate the intricate details that went into each of them. It must have taken a lot of effort and time to put together. It doesn’t suit the aesthetic themes I have in mind for my characters, but I think it would be amazing to the people who like that sort of style.

Then it makes sense that your taste tend to follow the price as it is customary for ANet to brand the new detailed armor as elite armor over the ones with fewer details, regardless of taste. This same thing happened in GW2 as in GW1. But like I said, more details doesn’t guarantee a nicer looking armor.

I would certainly hope to see ANet releasing APIs to support mobile apps that can provide such features. As Healix said, you can already do some of the things you described through the unofficial TP api.

The TP api is the most dynamic and exciting of all the API from ArenaNet even though we only have the unofficial version at the moment. Just this morning, I helped someone in reddit earn 25g just like that, so how can you not be excited about profits?

Wait, so you’re saying that ANet SHOULD go ahead with gem store changes that would be widely regarded by their player base as P2W? O.o That would be financial suicide.

“widely regarded by their player base”? I call that the vocal minority.

The reason why ANet backed down on the Flamekissed armor and possibly future unlimited tools was because the vast majority of the players playing GW2 do NOT want a P2W game (or rather, what they DEFINE as a P2W game). Letting the Flamekissed armor stand would have sent a very clear message to these players and potentially result in a massive exodus of players that the game may never recover from.

I really don’t think it is the majority of players that think that way. Most players don’t even bother to post on the forums.

I generally like all of them except the Charr (although their Heavy Cultural armors are pretty decent).

Well, considering ANet backtracked after the Watchwork Pick and left the Thresher and the Frost Wasp tools as cosmetic only, I’d say that our objections were noted and taken on board. They didn’t revert the Watchwork Pick, which is a small disappointment, but I appreciate that it probably wasn’t worth the extra coding hassle for the minor inconvenience of having all the tools be identical if the Watchwork Pick is never coming back.

That is why they are not getting much money from me because they are such wimps in their own gem store. So much for P2W.

Now I only convert gems to gold when the exchange rate is favorable and if I need gold, which is seldom nowadays as it is so easy to earn gold in this game. The stuff in their gem store are literally too boring. They are only hurting themselves and the game for being overly sensitive to such issues. They don’t realize that players tend to complain for their own sake, rather than what is best for the game or the game company.

At the moment, I’d say that the common perception is that the T3 Cultural armors are the “best” skins, despite the fact that they’re only Rare stats. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these are also the most expensive skins (with the exception of Ascended armor, in some cases. I think a full Ascended leather set is still cheaper than T3 Cultural.) And again, remember the uproar when the Flamekissed armor skin was originally released, and how quickly ANet backed down about it.

So much for ANet being P2W then. But then again, if the T3 Cultural armor sells for 119 gold and the Flamekissed was selling at 2000 gems (>119g), it really doesn’t matter.

Not all the T3 armor are nice either. I only like the human versions, the others are just meh.

If Legendary armor is ever introduced, I’m willing to bet ALL my gold that it will be considered the “best” skin in the game, even if it’s considered to be aesthetically ugly. People will get it simply to show off their wealth, similar to how you saw dozens of characters with Obsidian armor and Chaos Gloves back in GW1. Even players who might not like the look of Legendary armor may get it anyway just to show that they have “made it”.

Which is why I only bought one obsidian armor for each of my accounts in GW1, for the sake of HoM, even though my stash is maxed out with gold. Not all obsidian armor are bad looking. Their ritualist armor is pretty nice.

DarkSpirit.7046

Are we back to this again? -sigh- I’ve told you before, it’s not about the sprockets, or the price of sprockets. It’s about the precedent of selling something in the gem store that gives a bonus, however slight, over anything a normal player that doesn’t use the gem store can obtain. If players don’t put their foot down, ANet can only conclude that the player base doesn’t mind, or likes, having more powerful stuff on the gem store, and thus start putting ever more powerful items up for sale. (It’s like the non-stop parade of Apple products. Each one has to be “better” than the last model, or consumers just won’t upgrade to it.) Eventually this will take us to a point where a new player who’s willing to shell out upfront for gem store goodies will be leagues above a new player who can’t afford the same. (Yes, the wealthy player is out of pocket more, but he’s undeniably “superior” to the poorer player, with all the posturing and social clout that brings.)

Considering that we already have a real money to gold conversion system, it is already too late to put your foot down on something is worth less than even a cup of coffee. If you don’t want such a system to be in place then you are in the wrong game buddy! ArenaNet staff need to earn their keep. You said it yourself, the richer player would start out stronger than the poorer player. This would always be the case, with or without the watchwork pick because it is how the gem conversion works from the first day of release!

The only way the poorer player can catch up is to play more and get items that cannot be traded. And these items that cannot be traded happens to be the strongest items in the game. <sarcasm>Wow! I wonder why they designed it to be that way?</sarcasm>

You’re also pretty adamant that P2W can only be considered to be true for items that provide strict numerical advantage over another player. Does that mean that if ANet started selling Legendary/Ascended skins (just the skins, not the Ascended stats) on the gem store, you wouldn’t consider that P2W? Do you think that everybody who’s crafted/bought an Ascended item or Legendary for themselves would think that’s it’s not P2W?

Sure if you want to consider skins, but skins are more subjective. Does everyone consider the most expensive skin the best skin in the game? Can the best skin in the game be something that you buy or are they something which you have to play the game in order to acquire?

So again, how do we compare that in terms of say, armor? Name the best armor skin in the game which everyone would agree on and we will see if that is buyable or only obtainable through playing. By the way, I hate the ascended skin and wouldn’t buy them even if they sell them in the gem store.

And yet they had no problems with Exotics being tradable. Or Legendaries being tradable. ANet even admitted outright that they didn’t expect players to acquire all-Exotic gear so quickly. Everything points to Ascended gear being time-gated/grindy simply to stop players from completing it too quickly.

Then you might as well say, they let the level 60 rare armor be trade-able, if that bothers you. News Flash: Exotics are not the most powerful items in the game anymore.

Ascended is also easily gotten if you don’t have a job and you just farm everyday. Not much of a time gate. Oh you can only craft one deldrimor ingot per day, so what? It is trade-able, you can always buy a few of them from the TP.

Their main goal is that you can’t just get ascended items without actually playing the game, no matter how much real money you have to trade for gold. Yes legendary weapons are the exception, but you can never get the best trinkets and armor with just gold, without playing the game.

There’s different levels of P2W, and it depends a lot on what an individual player defines it as. With the exception of the Watchwork Pick, the gem store used to have a standard of only selling items for cosmetics and convenience. As far as I’m concerned, neither is P2W, but it is to some people. The current arguments in the General Forum about how Legendaries should be excluded from the Wardrobe show that many players are upset at the idea of new players getting extra Legendary skins “for free”. P2W does not necessarily have to be purely based on stats or competitive mechanics.

Another example might be if ANet started selling Tomes of Knowledge for 50 gems, allowing a player to simply buy their way to level 80. I wouldn’t consider this as P2W (P2Shortcut, maybe), but I guarantee that lots of players would.

That is why I said, you guys don’t know what P2W really is. What are you “winning” from this that I can’t win over you with my real world money? Sprockets? Really? Big deal! With the price of just 1000 gems ($12.50), I can already buy more sprockets than your pick can produce for you in a whole year!

The only things you can win over someone with real money are the things that can’t be traded. Things like ascended items and vision crystals. These are the things that require you to play the game in order to acquire them. And guess what? These are the things that actually form the most powerful weapons, armor, and trinkets in the game. So how is this game P2W again?

This is why ANet can never allow you to win the game with just gold because anything that can be bought with gold, can be won over without ever playing the game in the first place. Gold has to be the most overrated currency in the game because the best items in the game can’t be bought using only gold. Therefore it is ridiculous that people are throwing the term “P2W” over just some small amount of gold, yes they are a small amount of gold compared to what an average american would earn in the real world. You are making so much noise over chump change that costs less than a cup of coffee.

The only reason ANet didn’t make Ascended gear tradable is because it would defeat the purpose of why Ascended gear was introduced in the first place, which is a carrot to keep players playing.

No that is not the only reason. The reason why ANet didn’t make Ascended gear trade-able is because they don’t want the others to call it P2W, since gold has always been obtainable with real money.

Think about it, if ANet solely wants to maximize profit, they would have made them trade-able since more people would be getting gold through the gem store to buy them. Especially those with full time jobs and with lesser time to farm for gold. Or better yet, just sell Ascended items in their own gem store or at least sell the vision crystals.

That is why you guys who call the gem store P2W have no idea what P2W really is about. If they really want to make the gem store to be P2W, it wouldn’t be just a mining pick that gives some sprockets 20% of the time. You would see things in the gem store that would allow you to fly in the real world (like the tools from GW2 hackers), or summoning stones that allow you to summon an army, or consumables that would make you invincible temporarily so that you would have to buy more of it for the effect to last, or mounts with special powers, etc.

You guys obviously don’t know what P2W really is.

Not really. I will quit the game if that communistic dictatorship of the TP ever happens.

That would be a terribly sad day. Sounds like you are one of the people that just login to play the TP. While that is cool and all, decisions like this shouldn’t be based on players who more than likely don’t support the game with real money.

Having said that, I am NOT advocating for what you would call a “communistic TP”, I was just saying that if anything, what happened today is a good argument for it and not against.

What makes you think I don’t support the game with real money?
