That’s the thing, deflecting shot on paper sounds like a skill shot but in practicality is merely a woefully low damage blind luck shot (that also requires 2 clicks instead of 2).
Other than stopping the occasional rapid fire, deflecting shot has no place in GW2’s fast paced combat.
It being used to purposely stop anything useful besides firing randomly in the direction of a WvW zerg has about as much chance as happening as a GW1 ranger distracting shooting another ranger’s distracting shot.
Post here if you disagree with this.
skill #1 literally couldn’t hit a fish in a barrel in pvp
skill #3 can’t be fired behind you and is about as practical as trying to stop a gunman by shooting his bullets with your own bullets in actual application.
skill #4 can’t be fired behind you and takes entirely too long to land.
skill #5 has way too long of a root for the ward effect to take effect in the last shot.
not to mention all the under 500 range “obstructed” errors with all the skills.
I really want to know where Anet is getting these “well received” feedbacks from, happy go lucky PvE streamers that only roleplay and farm silverwastes?
Topic
Even before the HoT announcement/LB hype, I’ve always wanted guards to have a proper ranged 1 handed wep to pair for focus.
Seeing how kitten y/clunky the DH is and how fragile longbows leave guardians has only made me want spears even more.
500-0 happen like once every other match on courtyard
If they cannot be changed to be instant cast, how about this tweak:
instead of the virtues having cooldowns like baseline virtues, have them be charge based, aka having the virtues add a charge every x seconds (same as their current recharge rate) and giving you a max of 3 charges.
this also allows for new traits to add charges to the virtues and allow RF to add an additional charge as a baseline. A 600 range leap every 40 secs is laughable mobility, but imagine being able to triple leap for 1800 range by blowing all your charges. THAT mobility I can get behind.
thoughts?
we get to kick rocks
:(
1 handed main hand spear
spear / focus master race
Skill 1: Maiming Spear – 1200 range, every 3rd hit causes Cripple
Skill 2: Spear of Lightning – 1200 range, causes vulnerability and weakness
Skill 3: Holy Spear – 1200 range, massive single target damage that explodes on impact into a fire field and causes 1 stack of burning per tick.
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
Changes that would make the DH virtues not having instant cast worth it:
Spear of Justice – needs to become unblockable and gives 3 stacks of burning
Wings of Resolve – needs range increased to 900, break immobilize and evade all attacks while in mid flight.
Shield of Courge – needs to block all attacks and apply AoE knockback and/or stun instead of just blocking projectiles.
Let dragonhunters to have the option to toggle back to base guardian virtues. Losing blind stomp or stab stomp is way too detrimental to guards in spvp if the new virtues are coded in a way that they cannot be activated while channeling another skill.
If hunter’s ward procced the end effect at first shot then maybe the 45 sec CD is warranted.
as it currently is, its a 500 damage skill that roots you that no will catch almost no one with its “ward” effect.
for spvp, mace/focus longbow is probably my new favorite spec right now.
SoW, swap to longbow, true shot into JI, soaring devastation leap into smite condition = a 20k burst in about 2 secs
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
Any opinions so far on what type of bow is best? Is condi damage any good with Dragonhunter?
so far it feels far better as a power/cc weapon than a condi weapon.
A true shot (LB #2) can crit a light armored target for upwards of 5k in marauder amulet, that’s by far the heaviest hitting single ability the guardian has ever had. Even more so than Hammer 2.
couple of things re: virtues
1. their active effects needs to be applied at the beginning of the cast, rather than the end
2. they need to be usable while channeling renewed focus.
Post them here
so far from initial testing, the virtues not being able to be activated while channeling RF feels super awkward and will take some getting used to.
also getting a bunch of “no line of sight” errors while within like 500 range by just being on top of an ant hill of a difference in z axis.

Oh man those generalizations. “Nobody” is going to use traps or longbow? I didn’t realize when you spoke for me or for every other person too. The kitten class hasn’t even been played live once yet, you have ZERO clue on how the traps will affect the metagame or how much of a game changer a heavy hitting 1200 CC/power weapon will help guardians.
But keep speaking for everyone anyways, you do not look anything like a fool.
No, I can 100% without a doubt say for a fact that the traps are useless and now and will be useless at launch. I can also say that you are absolutely deluded if you’re calling the dragon hunter longbow as anet has presented it a heavy hitting power weapon. It is a piece of kitten with no real damage capability. I bet you also run guardian staff and think that hits hard too.
true shot critting for 5k in marauder amulet…gg
Shiro Mallyx sword/sword and axe/mace revs obviously
the reason more guards play honor instead of zeal isn’t because shattered aegis’ damage is low, its because they’re playing bunker instead of medi.
Meditation with Honor, you should try…
don’t stay locked in builds of meta battle website, they are only one way for those who do not know the class, builds are chosen by your role and team composition.
you’re preaching to the choir: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Making-zerk-ammy-work-and-critting-for-10k/
Shattered Aegis : You would be surprise of it’s efficiency in PvP. It’s part of the meta right now for the medi guardian. Maybe a small buff would be nice, but it’s a good trait right now.
Healer’s Retribution : There is two role that this trait can achieve. The first is in a pve build to trigger Retribution. But right now it will never compete with RHS even if you boost it to like 20 second or something like that so you can keep Retribution uptime very high. For this trait to work in this kind of build it would need to be a master Virtue trait or a adept/master honor trait to work with a Hammer build. The second role is in WvW zerg or sPvP Bunker. Both of those just don’t use Radiance, but if you put Healer’s retribution as a adept in honor then suddently it could be a good option. So in the end, they should put it as an adept in Honor. That way it will be usefull to hammer guardian in PvE and to bunker guardian in sPvP and Frontliner in WvW.
Shattered Aegis really need a small buff in damage, i think most of the Guardians like more play Honor instead of Zeal in conquest.
Healer’s Retribution concept by arena net i think its to have synergy with Retribution and Radiant Retaliation so more uptime of retaliation will be good.
the reason more guards play honor instead of zeal isn’t because shattered aegis’ damage is low, its because they’re playing bunker instead of medi.
first build I’ll test out is GS/LB medi with valor/virtues/DH and test the traps out maybe 1 at a time
I do not think JI will be the meditation that gets dropped. A JI/True Shot combo with traited Heavy Light (the knock back trait) is an incredibly devastating opening move that can set up all sorts of fun rotation attacks since TS with traited also gives you stability to pull off other attacks. (JI/True Shot into GS 5, pull back into GS2. JI/True Shot followed by Soaring Devastation resolve into Hammer 4 etc)
If anything I think CoP might get dropped for Light’s Judgment trap if the meta shifts away from condis enough and Medi Guards don’t have to be at 0 range from all the AoEs all the time

gonna be theorycrafting pvp/wvw builds for dragonhunter and shiro/something revs
all of those proposed changes looks absolutely horrible.
shattered aegis has never critted for close to that amount on a marauder amulet. from my testing, 1.4k is about the highest I’ve gotten w/o getting into situational kitten like 20+ stacks of might on a 15+ vulnerability squishy.
lol at the OP’s suggestion for Blackout
GW1’s version of the skill disabled both the user and the affected player’s skill bar for x duration, it was mostly used to disable the opposing team’s monks prior to a spike, at the cost of the user’s entire skill bar also being disabled (which for all intents and purposes, a ranger/mes or warrior/mes isn’t nearly as important as a monk in a flag stand fight)
shattered aegis crits for about 1.2k in marauder amulet, not really that much of a game changer.
the revive bubble is way more useful in a group fight imo.
That isn’t a guardian issue, its an Anet bug issue.
lol what? crit damage has never been capped at 200 or any other number outside of what you can boost with gear/food/runes/sigils
Mantras nerfed/fixed, eles pretty much untouched.
This might work well in 1v1s, but in team fights and more competitive organized play you’re going to be a handicap to your team. Primarily due to the lack of peel on Guardian to go with that damage. As soon as a fight is tipped out of your favor numerically, you’re screwed. (Especially if they know to focus you)
Although, admittedly for trolling around pvp and general entertainment value this would be fun.
this build isn’t competing against a bunker guard for team support, it is competing against marauder power medi guards, of which it does more damage than at the cost of only 1k HP.
downstate necro is scarier than healthy non lich formed necro
/truth
it hits like a full glass but has the vitality of a marauders by sacrificing an offensive spec (zeal or radiance) for honor’s force of will (and revive bubble/aegis heal)
killed a few rangers with scepter auto attack hitting them for 5k in 3 shots to their chagrin.
you can also swap out the wurm runes for warrior runes, it basically is a wash between 100 extra power from warrior or 200 extra ferocity from wurm, but the 8 sec weapon swap from warrior runes is pretty nice.
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
been testing this build lately:
I’m liking it more than the standard zeal/valor/virtues medi guard with marauder ammy. the revive bubble and heal on aegis offers much more support than a pure power build and that 225% crit damage is no joke on 2.2k power, scepter auto attacks are critting for 1.2k and smite conditions are critting for 3k
your GS2/JI/SC combo can pretty much erase any light armored classes if they aren’t at 100% and has a dodge available.
why don’t you use your virtues while activating RF? its a personal pet peeve of mine seeing other guardians waste a couple of free virtue activations.
it occurs in sPvP as well, only Smiter’s Boon lowers JI’s cooldown, not monk’s focus, it has been reported many times since it first cropped up in the specialization patch on 6/23.
Nac, I know exactly how the wardrobe unlocks work (notice I was one of the first to clarify yes making eternity does give you sunrise and twilights skins while still letting you sell it?). That’s not what we are talking about.
The OP is 100% correct literally NO other legendary gives the player access to ANY legendary skins and lets you sell the legendary to recoup some of the cost making said skins.
“literally NO other legendary” requires 2 other legendaries as an ingredient.
until other legendaries starts requiring 2 gifts of mastery/fortune/precursors, I’m not sure why there is such sour grapes for eternity granting you twilight/sunrise skins seeing as they’re basically just way more expensive versions of precursors.

Guild Wars as a franchise has NEVER been about gear progression, grinding for BiS weapons/armors that 90% of casual players won’t acquire without months of farming is something that will never happen.
Heck, in GW1, as soon as your character hit lvl 20, you pretty much had access to the best gear outside of some EXTREMELY rare items that didn’t even drop in the expansions of Factions and Nightfall (req 7 max tactics shields for example)
as title states, I would like to see this implemented as a feature/option, reason for this is simple: different classes have different playstyles and class mechanics – a warrior for example has only a F1 burst skill but quicker weapon swaps, an ele has 4 attunements on F1-F4 that might require constant swapping and would likely require a more accessible set of keybinds (be it changing to 1-4 or ASDF or w/e) and a guardian only has 3 virtues that some people might prefer to bind to the side mouse 1-3 key on a Razer mouse.
keeping a global account based set of keybinds makes playing a different character more of a hassle, I’d love to see the option for keybinds being separated by classes/characters.
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
and lol at traiting for immobilize on f1 instead of radiant fire
lol at “HAVE TO” run cleansing water/wave as if they’re some ten ton burden traits eles need just to stay relevant.
guardians can roam with any class that isn’t a mesmer right now.
rune of the defender’s aegis does not get applied to allies and shelter already blocks and procs communal defense, it’s entirely redundant and useless.
that and the benefit of only a bit of extra healing power as a runeset makes the set horrible.
lol at “trait synergy”
most of the traits that HAD the synergy was made baseline, most of what mesmers are left with are “icings” traits while nearly all of the “meat and potatoes” traits have been rolled into being baseline.
lol the GS healing is pitiful, 26 heal per attack in marauder amulet, and only 50 in cleric amulet
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
renewed focus is way too powerful to be an f4 skill. not even in the realm of possibilities
I wish I could have shorter CDs and a condi removal on shout without having to trait for it either but that’s not gonna happen.
bump, hope this gets fixed today/soon
did my first one in about a month or two at launch…just started on my 2nd one now and about 27% done after 2 days and I’m already bored out of my mind
the fields are obvious enough to recognize to anyone that has paid enough attention and has played GW2 for more than a month, don’t need to waste voiceover work for it.
