the DH still suffers from a serious lack of “fun” and game changing traits.
traits like Radiant Fire that change the way we use certain weapons. flat damage reduction or damage modifier traits have no business being GM traits
the recent Judges Intervention change puts a real hamper on some combos like Mighty Blow (Hammer) + JI and Soaring Devastation DH leap + JI.
Blinding Ashes recharged increased from 5s to 8s.
Burning Fire no longer apply might when you use a cantrop.
Drake’s Breath – Burning duration decreased from 3s to 2.5s.
Ring of Fire – Applies 2 stacks of burning for 4s initially (this now applies if enemy is within radius of the ring, do not need to cross the ring). When enemy cross the ring threshold the fire stack they get has been changed from 3 stacks for 5s to 1 stack for 2 seconds.
that’s it? this was the big D/D nerf we’ve been waiting 3 months for?

These changes only confirm my suspicions; DH is a ranged spec and it’s intent is to enhance that kind of play. So many comments would not exist here if people could wrap their heads around that fact.
your suspicions are that an elite spec getting a longbow is a ranged spec?
your intellect fascinates me.
long story short: you’re not gonna beat a non noob D/D ele, you’re just not.
thieves have a better shot at beating burn guards than any guards have of beating a D/D ele that isn’t a skill clicker.
please don’t keep it as a generic ICD random knockback in which we have no control over.
make the trait give Deflecting Shot knockback instead.
the cooldowns would work out to about the same and it gives Dshot an actual “skill shot” utility.
even with the changes to Dshot, using it as a means of projectile destruction still is trying to fit a square peg in the round hole that is GW2’s flashy million miles an hour particle physics effect combat system.
let us have our controlled CC. there is no skill in ICD traits, we need less of them in GW2, not more.
still doesn’t address the glaring problem of can’t activate virtues while channeling RF
I think the virtues work really well with a bunker-guard
are you drunk son?
which of honor/valor/virtues would you possibly drop for DH?
Did I write the whole trait-line is better for bunkers? Nope.
I just like the changed virtues since they give the Bunker-Guard more versatility and utility. We’ll have to w8 to see what they’re gonna change until release to see if it’s really a good choice to go for DH.
So far, I probably wouldn’t go for it, but DH is probably gonna change quite a bit until release.
yes, giving up instant cast aoe condi cleanse and aoe stunbreak/stability sounds like great bunker changes.
there is no “they”
the market determines the price. Anet can’t suddenly drop The Legend’s price by 400g because they think its currently too expensive.

ANet already announced changes to DH which didn’t make it into this BWE:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Dragonhunter-Changes-for-Next-BWE/5419316Still won’t make it that great, but at least better than not being used at all.
none of those tweaks changes the fact that the longbow feels like combat in slow motion or the dichotomy of cast time virtues when for 3 years the Guardian’s entire core mechanic traits was mostly designed with instant activation virtues.
that and the long as kitten self rooting bow attacks on a class that has the least mobility in the game. (a 600 range 40 sec cooldown leaping virtue that can get interrupted and doesn’t bypass immob ain’kitten
in WvW roaming its fairly strong since you can boost the damage up to quite significant levels with ascended gear and food/oil/guard stacks to the point of it being an instant 100-0 burst on anyone not prepared.
in spvp however its barely tier 2. It doesn’t do enough damage to justify the squishy-ness and hasn’t enough sustain to outlast any meta bruiser spec.
glint spec is insanely strong in spvp.
glint/shiro acts like a bruiser build that no current guardian or DH spec can compete with.
I’m sure a full glint/jalis or glint/ventari bunker would also be pretty strong.
the problem is that every single existing virtues trait in every line was originally designed with instant activation in mind.
the DH virtues didn’t just “change” a base mechanic, it ripped it apart from its base.
they’re incompatible for the simple reason that DH virtues aren’t instant cast and will remain incompatible because of that.
whoops my bad
forgot there were 3 total set of changes
Hiya!
Sorry about the confusion. The stuff I’ve been talking about up in the stickied changes post wasn’t slated for this BWE, as that opportunity had already passed. The changes in this iteration are listed in Irenio’s post, in the OP. Sorry for the confusion. We haven’t stopped working on the Dragonhunter, however, and do value your feedback on the current iteration (even if there are changes coming).
Please continue to use this thread for feedback. It’s appreciated!Cheers,
-Karlso right now the auto attack is AFTER the 60% velocity increase?
it still feels like it needs an additional 60%
This is before.
no, the original thread for BWE changes indicated that puncture shot was getting a 60% velocity increase.

has the long bow projectile speed increase been actually implemented? it feels just as slow and strafe-able as BWE1
Post em here guys
they can’t nerf our water/arcane… we die to any half decent thief/mesmer out of their stealth burst in a matter of seconds without our sustain from water/arcane.
While water is on top of the food chain, burst thiefs and mesmers are well beatable without even traiting water ;-). The main problem is that you will die to longer condi aplication without water. A condi mesmer will totally wreck non water eles, as necros will do.
—
Efficientest nerf is only touch dagger fire aplication. It will do least damage to other builds.
While i understand blinding ashes being anoying for some oponents, it´s far from OP.
news flash: you’re SUPPOSED to die to certain things, that’s how the rest of GW2 professions work.
you want to trait to stop direct damage? you have to give up some condi cleanse
want to stop condi builds? gotta be a bit squishy to burst builds.
want to be able to stop both? gotta build a full bunker and do absolutely 0 damage.
must have been a bunker guard
while you’re at it cap direct damage at ~1k per second. it’s been killing me a lot lately.
and cap CCs at once per second.

would be nice if the new legendary armors allows you to swap runesets.
3rd game in a row this has happened to either mine or my opponent’s team
yes, it works for aegis you apply to others.
so the combat log would look like:
1st shattered aegis (guardian’s default virtue block)
trigger communal defense (everyone else gets an aegis)
2nd/3rd/4th aegis shatter etc
guardian activates virtue of courage, he and everyone gets another aegis
5th/6th/7th/8th shatter
guardian activates renewal focus, recharges virtue of courage, activates it again
9/10/11/12th etc shatter
the damage when zergs in wvw run into each other from 4-5 guardians can get absolutely insane from shattered aegis
communal defense is a trait that gives a guardian’s allies aegis when the guard blocks an attack, shattered aegis is an AoE attack.
you can easily stack 10+ shatters with a single guard if you combo things correctly.
Zealot’s Aggression with Defender’s Dogma sounds like pretty good synergy.
I still want my instant cast virtues though. Those having 0 synergy with RF is a major roadblock.
Also question: If dulled senses have been moved from Master to Adept, where is Soaring Devastation? Moved to Master?
You get 2 extra ticks on every symbol, they’re larger and they heal you… why wouldn’t you take Writ of Persistence? It’s very nice with Hammer + Mace/focus build.
Because Pure of Voice is a thing…
Some builds are meant to counter other builds. That’s how it works.
what if guardians got a new trait that makes them immune to ele skills when all 3 of their virtues are not in cooldown.
would you be fine with that since it counters eles now?
1. Spear of Justice sucks
2. Heavy Light is MUCH MUCH better (the knock back trait)
its not a viable pvp trait, at all.
less useful than symbolic avenger.
it takes a different kind of mindset to play a thief effectively.
the gist of it comes down to: you have the highest mobility in the game, use that to your advantage.
the current meta is not a very combat friendly place for a thief unless its vs another thief or ganking a mesmer
a majority of the time, unless you’re going in for a quick +1 to gank an unsuspecting enemy, if you take longer than 10 secs engaged in combat, you’re doing something wrong and effectively hurting your team.
stealth, decap, stealth, move to another node on the other side of the map and keep the other team constantly trying to guess where you are and over commit to certain spots that generate outnumbered fights for your team.
pfft, nice necroing a 2 year old thread
he’ll next claim ele is squishier than thieves because thieves wear medium armor.
For me, the main issue with virtues is that their cooldowns are a bit high for their active skills, and they also have the disadvantage of removing the passive effects in the process. Even when you compare virtues to other class mechanic skills, the cooldowns are quite long. I don’t really understand why they are so long, but it just seems a bit overkill to me.
I think the best way to give dragon hunters more options when it comes to their virtues, is to add a grandmaster spec that causes virtues to retain their passive effects when you activate them (kinda like the elementalist grandmaster trait that causes signets to retain their passive effects). This would promote the use of active skills for guardians without making them feel like their suffering a big loss for it.
They can honestly remove that knockback bow grandmaster trait and replace it with the suggestion above. It is, quite honestly, the worst idea for a trait I have ever seen in this game yet. If ranger longbow knockbacks weren’t bad enough already, given all the complaints about them on these forums, imagine something similar, but automatic. It would be a disaster waiting to happen.
the longbow KB is the only shred of reliable CC dragonhunters have in spvp, if you want them to remove that, Anet better be adding a KB to deflecting shot to compensate.
I’d say after BWE 3 (whenever that is), we’ll likely be within a month of release.
calling cele d/d a hybrid build is laughable.
cele d/d isn’t a hybrid build, its an EVERYTHING build, outside of access to stealth (not like they need it) and maybe spike damage potential, there isn’t a single thing in pvp that cele d/d doesn’t at least achieve a 90% efficiency at compared to the top of the line specs.
they can bunker at least 90% as well as a guardian, has at least 90% of the mobility of a thief, can cleanse/dish out condis etc etc.
its not a “hybrid” if you get 50 miles per gallon but also can haul as much as a pickup truck and take on a Bugatti Veyron in a street race
This is sick guys! It pierces and deals hell of a lot dmg. It cannot be unblockable.
Ofc it can if the guardian is rooted while casting. Both terrain and dodging will prevent it from hitting.
And seriously, it doesnt do that much damage imo.
it currently crits for 5k by itself in just marauder amulet… it is the guardian’s single hardest hitting ability. if our hardest hitting ability is “not that much damage” you must think the guardian is the worst class in the game.
look, I hate the BWE1 version of the longbow guardian as much as the next person, but true shot was not a reason why. in fact, even though its on a 4 sec cooldown (which is borderline OP for a skill that hits this hard), my biggest gripe with DH has been waiting for true shot to recharge faster because the other longbow skills were useless.
(edited by Darknicrofia.2604)
should be removed or reduce the stat gain to 300 each.
when one class/spec can utilize it better than all 7 other classes combined, its a glaring problem that needs to be addressed.
I’m confused, why do you think “max out” and “keep working on” a ranger have anything at all to do with sPvP?
you don’t deal less damage or have less health because your toon is lvl 34 instead of lvl 80 in spvp land.
a bunker guard is weakest when attacking a point solo, but in a 3v3 situation or more, you should be pretty much close to as unkillable as anything in pvp this game has.
unless you’re getting chain stunned or bombed with burn stacks, there should be no reason you’re “dropping fast” even with some focus.
in a team fight scenario, a bunker guard is kitten near invincible when you play it right from the AH procs.
why on earth would sword be considered over mace?
literally nothing on there has a shred of support.
clunky
unfinished
disappointment
Turning all underwater weapons loose on the surface would be great.
the Trident could turn into a more offensive version of the staff (aka a proper ranged support/dps spec that the DH was suppose to be) and the spear could turn into a pure ranged DPS weapon ala GW1’s paragon.
the current iteration of the DH trait clashes on every level with the virtues trait, so much so that if you spec into DH, it is better to forgo virtues trait entirely to take something else.
DH and bunker/support do not belong in the same sentence. for a pure support standpoint, you won’t find anything remotely even close to 50% effective as the current version of the meta bunker if you spec into DH.
