Yeah its so exciting going weeks and only getting blues and greens.
Oh, classic. Using hyperbole to force your point across.
I get a Rare every 2~3 days, and I spend most of my time screwing around in Caledon Forest. If you aren’t, you’re probably not really trying. o_O
I’ll assume you are not playing a level 1-15 character in Caledon, in which case aren’t you doing precisely what you accuse a system of ‘consistent’ rewards would create ie grinding? I don’t want to run my level 80 character around in a starter zone forever because I can kill more things quickly and thereby increase my chances of getting a ‘rare’ item – I want to play the game normally and ANY game mechanic that penalizes me from doing this is IMHO not being used correctly.
I would love to hear from a developer on why they feel that so many RNG elements within the game enhance the player experience.
I see the description of the Roses on the Gem store states that this item equips in your toy slot – Anyone know anything about this?
Are we getting an additional slot where we can equip consumable and environmental items/weapons? – I really hope so.
Because it’s a completely unnecessary mechanism that randomly discriminates between players. I can’t think of one situation that occurs in-game that uses RNG that couldn’t be reworked to offer fixed rewards.
‘Beggar was profession skill in Ultima online – you could talk to any NPC and they would give you a few copper.’
Beggar still is a profession in UO … UO still alive and doing well
Oh – if only they would update that game with modern graphics – I wonder how today’s young gamers would cope with a sandbox environment?

If the designers are going to insist on keeping dungeons and fractals as a requirement of monthlies and not give players a choice to avoid them in lieu of doing something they prefer, the very least that could be done is to implement a method of quickly finding a group.
I don’t mind dungeons and have enjoyed the few visits to fractals, but like many, the amount of time it takes trying to find groups is a major turn off. Even in a large guild 10-20 minutes is the average standing around time spamming for participants and waiting for ppl to finish what they are doing .
So far this month I have tried to do one a day – were 8 days in and I have 2 completed – 2 fails and 4 days where the wait time to gather or join a group exceeded 30 minutes and I gave up – In total that’s 3 hours and 10 minutes of doing nothing, time i could have spent doing in-game things I enjoy.
Its not just the time to actually find a group ~ even with gw2lfg.com its not that easy anymore finding groups as people are quitting enmasse. What I have a problem with is not just the time to find a group, + the time to clear the dungeon but what if your group can’t take down a boss or finish part of the dungeon and then breaks up – that is a significant amount of time wasted, and that leaves a very sour after taste.
Yup I have only just found out about gw2lfg.com – Clearly something is amiss when the player base is having to provide its own tools to get the most out of a game.
I’m sure there are a lot more I haven’t discovered, but I also find I forget about them most of the time as they are in my backpack – Would love to have a space above my main skillbar to place a few.
They’re definitely one of the best features in the game that is currently underused.
There are dozens of great items on merchants that I don’t think I have ever seen anyone using in game while playing
Whispers spy kits
experimental teleport device
healing seed pods
Ice gun
Golem in a box
Ogre wolf whistle
to name a few.
Anyone else using these items? and if so in what situations do you find them useful?

Naw, I think it is fine that the monthies are fixed otherwise everyone would just select the easiest-to-achieve options.
For a player who does dungeons or fractals regularly and has a like minded guild or group of friends, these would be the easiest options.
Easiest is a relative term that depends on your play style.
I see that dailies will become selectable in the Feb update – why not monthlies as well?
I’m amongst those that because of the persistent inclusion of dungeons or fractals as a requirement, usually choose not do do them. I understand there is no ‘requirement’ to do the monthly, but surely the inclusion of this system in the game is to encourage players to try different things – so why is the list of items on the rotation so limited?
The Targeting system is one of the most frustrating things in the game for me. The closest target key binding is a bad joke. Too often, I can be approaching an enemy – hit C to target, 1 to attack and suddenly find I’m leaping towards a Moa I passed 5 minutes ago or worst still aggroing a friendly mob nearby.

This happened to me as well yesterday afternoon. When I logged in later and checked it had reverted to my display name.
I really don’t understand why they felt that introducing these chests was a good use of time and resources. Did I miss all the threads from players complaining that looting corpses was too difficult? Aside from the fact that they are buggy and more time now has to be devoted to fixing them, they can also be difficult to spot (why not make the bright Gold?) so assuming they are working as intended, you now have a greater chance of missing the best loot.
I thought you could only have 10 mail at a time?
I have never hit a limit, though I do clear them out.
I’m guessing the hint achievement is still bugged as I’ve had 40+ in there and still not had the hint show up.
All of the heart achievement mails in my inbox now have XP I can collect – Nice if you have never deleted any e-mail’s.
Didn’t see any mention of this in the patch notes?
I’m doing the same. The only two professions I’m missing is mesmer and thief. Honestly though, mesmer makes me want to quit because it is incredibly ridiculous how fast I go down. And as for thieves, oh god…it’s even worse
Ele and Necro to go all the rest at 80. Mesmer was the first I did and I find them extremely durable – it takes a mob of 6-8 undead including a Vet before things start getting tricky.
Jan 11th – Still Bugged
I would quite like an answer to this as well. Are the mini pets and skins exclusive for this year or will they be used again in future years?
I was under the impression from my experiences, that the lower the level of the character, the better the chances of receiving an extra item.
Hint: Put a snow wall in front of Toxx away from the centre
Giant presents are broken but no one else seems to have figured it out. They only ever award 1 item when you open them, be it a snowflake, ugly item or a rarer item.
Large and Medium presents award 3-4 ugly items, a snowflake or a rare every time.
Are they only supposed to drop one item at a time?
Several Dev’s have commented that the bags should all work in a similar fashion except the rewards are level appropriate yet all the other size bags give multiple hats, sweaters etc and I am unable to find anyone who can confirm Giant presents give more than 1 item of anything.
Seems a bit odd.
Could you confirm that every giant gift only awarded 1 item?
Disturbing if true. I’ve only gotten giant boxes as the toons I play are 80, and I’ve always gotten one ugly wool sweater per box. I was wondering how they expect us to save up hundreds of those things, unless they expect people to grind for hours every day.
Just prior to the patch I was playing with my lvl 50 toon and got about 5 medium sizes ones for the first time- every single one had 4-5 ugly items, which is what caused me to suspect it may be bugged.
I have opened about a 100 gifts so far of all sizes and only the medium ones nearly always give more than 1 of the collectors items.
At least 50% of the boxes I have opened have been Giant and these only ever give 1 item.
Is this as intended and are other players experiencing the same?
I would like to have the extra utility slot to activate the many consumable items that can be bought at karma vendors around the world – making use of them from the inventory bag just isn’t practical and there are so many useful items out there that are not getting used.
Could you clarify if the mail will be going to a specific character who attended the event or do I need to clear the mailboxes of all of my characters?
Any zone where 100% exploration has been achieved should be free.
Hopefully this is just a problem of bad communication. They did tell us that they are working on a fix to give those of us that were disconnected some sort of reward. That would be pretty brave of them to put something like that down in writing if they don’t plan on following through. It’s not something that anyone that spent hours doing that event will forget.
I sincerely hope this is the case -Doing nothing or offering some paltry token reward in the hope that people have forgotten about it would be pretty inexcusable.

I was able to participate, but was really tired today at work. And the stuff I got is rather useless(I like the Ancient Karka Chest, but that’s all). It’s a little disheartening and disappointing that so many people got precursors and the rest of us got almost useless stuff(why do I always get armor for the other classes?! ARGH!).
Some of us got a reward for like…1g and the others got a reward for over 300g. If you raised the chance for so many people to get a precursor then you should’ve given the other people at least something equally nice or at the very least armor usable by our own characters! Giving a guardian light armor is outrageous <_<
Oh and you forgot to mention that many people were unable to even complete the event – but that doesn’t make the concept wrong – The problem was the execution.
Aside from the bugs and technical issues, which are inexcusable 99% of the other complaints relating to these events could simply be fixed by:
1: starting them at different, more convenient times on different servers, based on the location of the player base on that server.
2: Only allowing 1 character per account to claim the event reward.
3: Making the reward the same for every player
Quite what the thinking behind assigning random rewards was, I have no idea, It is always going to be divisive.
The problem here seems simple enough: why can the chest be used by a character that didn’t participate in the event?
That doesn’t just go for this event, but all events. How many times have I jogged through Gort’s cave in Kessex Hills and spotted the post-event chest just sitting there? If I attempt to use it and didn’t participate in the event to clear the cave, it should pop up a message explaining that I don’t meet the requirements for that reward. Simple as that.
Probably about the same number of times that I have tried to inform another character who is running off after completed it, that a chest has just spawned for their reward.
And about the same number of times I have later found out that an event I have completed has a chest I didn’t see as part of the reward.
Chests are a bad game mechanism and should be gotten rid of.
One time events are great and should continue – what’s not great is that the 2 so far have been bugged and suffered from very poor communication and technical issues.
I think the vast majority of people would really have enjoyed both events had it not been for the issues above.
Noll is on a five minute cool down timer, so if it’s not working for you right now, just wait for a bit.
I do hope the lesson has been learnt for the future, that minimal interaction is the way to go for special event npc’s, where a large percentage of your game population is all in the same place.
Having Noll and the others tied to even a simple event chain simply doesn’t work – didn’t you guys figure that out after the halloween doors debacle?
I absolutely love the idea of one time events – they add richness, lore and a sense of realism to the game. Creating the illusion of time passing in a game adds a new level of immersion and surprises keep the game fresh.
Personally, I would even go one step further and have some events happen unannounced.
Why is it that players are so resistant to new and slightly radical ideas? Surely the whole point of an MMO is that the game continues while you are not logged on.
I don’t bother to try and clear confined areas when playing Solo during off peak hours for all the reasons stated. The game seems set up on the assumption that there will always be a group of players in any given area which clearly is not always the case. Could the respawn rate not be adjusted to take into account the number of players on a map or better still reduced during the off-peak hours?
Content 9/10 – Innovative and thoroughly enjoyable. Clock tower was genius.
Delivery 3/10 – Far too many bugs. Communication of what was required for achievements and clarity of instructions for all the mini games, but particularly scavenger hunt part 2 and Lunatic Inquisition, was very poor.
Northern Shiverpeaks Server or Shiverpeaks can’t remember. Has doors, do the zone north of Lions Arch, Garrison or something like that.
Is this an approved Anet fix to the problem? Everyone who’s looking for a door, change servers
Surely it’s time to place an npc in Lions Arch that grants entry?
The investigate the doors chain in Queensdale Gunners Hold has been stuck at 1 of 3 for days.
Really? Huh. I figured this one out on my first try. It’s my favorite part of the event so far. Needing to remember which supply goes where is part of the puzzle. (Reaper’s Rumble, on the other hand, has me seriously confused.)
Just goes to show what a difficult job Anet has sometimes – I sussed this immediately – Collect Pumpkins, make skeletons, attack the other side and destroy their 3 buildings.
Agree with the OP – Fun Game but I had to do it quite a few times before I had any clue what was going on. I would guess that it has been the least popular of the activities because many players were totally confused and gave up.
I spent the whole of the first game wandering around looking for the villagers, it wasn’t until midway through game 2 that I realised, I was a villager!
I think the clue to guessing what will happen lies in considering why the decision was taken to make it a one time non repeatable event.
The only logical conclusion I can draw is that something is going to happen tomorrow that makes some sort of change to the world – Hence it cannot be repeated without reverting the world back to it’s previous state. This could be a cosmetic change or the introduction of some major new content.
An easy solution would be to allow you to forward/send mail to your own characters
I just get network error and no options – Nothing happens. Only tried Queensdale thus far
I created a number of these earlier today from the mystic forge and placed them in my bank vault – Now I am unable to remove them. If I try to move them to a backpack, it just red’s out and if I right click and select use, it does nothing.
Having a small 12 year old invisible ghost girl in an insanely crowded area full of people doing costume brawling probably wasn’t a very good idea. She is virtually impossible to spot even when you know what you are looking for.
/agree – why was it removed?
Was it not inevitable that the exchange rate would and will continue to rise? The longer the game exists, the more gold is generated in-game and the higher prices for all items will become.
