Interesting fact: the tooltip damage for LH does not take your equipped weapon strength into account! It assumes an exotic base weapon strength and scales only with power. Therefore, according to the tooltip, the coefficient for LH swing is 1.067
You can’t use two sigils with CD at the same time, so battle + no cd sigil like force or bloodlust
This has been changed, check out the patch notes.
I just remembered the skill damage from memory. Then I hit the indestructible golem enough times to be sure it has not changed. So the end damage is the same. Now yes, they could have changed the weapon strength and the coefficients just for pvp so that it would still look the same! Not only is this unlikely, but also it does not matter: if it looks the same and behaves the same then for all practical purposes it is the same. You see what I mean? Only the perceived coefficients matter. This does not require proof. It is like how do we know the tooltip’s armor used is 2600? We don’t. But we were told so. And in fact the number does not matter, only the relative changes do. So we could say it is not 2600 but 3000 instead and all theory crafting would just have to adapt, but then end result would be the same
Yeah it’s risky to believe a dev! Let alone a mo… Let’s not get into that :p
The Risen Brutes are permanently crippled, LW has 300 range and LH blinds as often as they attack. Really It’s a stroll. A very slow stroll. It took hours to kill a mob. But then that gave me at least some decently large samples
I’ll just carry on with my method until I find a level 80 mob with 2600 armor, that should be possible! A structure would even be better.

So Guang, you are always right, your track record is very good, but you forgot about the fury from FGJ ? Do you even gw2 bro?
Actually there must be something wrong with my calculations because in the mists I find a coeff of 1.052, so maybe I got the armor wrong. This requires further testing.
- Cast times: yeah of course the wiki is wrong. This is why Keyz and I (but mostly Keyz) have spent time on recording them and frame counting for every one of our skills

- The PvP weapon strength is exotic. This is based on a few calculation. Also it is made plausible by the fact that changing this base would require Anet to rethink all balancing after patch and Anet has very little resources to spend on that.
- As for LH weapon strength, let’s assume that the devs have done a good job and that it behaves as they said it does: it uses the equipped weapon’s strength. I have done some lengthy naked tests in Malchor’s Leap next to the Lights Waypoint (southwest) on nearby level 79 Risen Brutes. This zone is decent because the character is level 80 and the mobs are not too deadly. The results are: 1.029 coeff for a swing (AA1&2) with ascended weapon,1.027 with exotic weapon, and 1.027 with basic (white) weapon. I am guessing that my sample just wasn’t large enough for the ascended test. Maybe you or Keyz can recheck this? I have calculated the mob’s armor to be 2400.
Hey Anierna can you post this in the ele forum? I’m already in the process of finding some answers
Your track record has been terrible to say the least.
For one, remember the staff ele “debate” ? You can not claim to have been right all along just because a patch conveniently buffed staff! Besides, I remember you did all your calculations wrong at that time. Even after the patch you got things wrong … It was really terrible. And the worse is: I had been talking about the potential of staff ele long before you wrote your thread. You can check my message history (on my main account).
So I don’t know about the other classes, but for all I know you it seems to me you are not a trustworthy source of theory. And now you are being dishonest.
My first toon was an Ele, and I followed daphoenix’s 0/10/0/30/30 d/d boon-duration build … in dungeons. He was all “arcana so pro,” I thought he actually knew wtf he was talking about … I look back at that and I think to myself “how did I ever believe this guy knew what he was talking about? I was such a naive noob.”
Haha that was fun
Hey, also, remember that time when went on my guide and said that my build deals no damage, etc, and then I proved you wrong and then you said you didn’t believe me and that you would recheck my calculations, except that was three months ago? haha good times!
Guys, I think the problem is not that Guang is wrong, it’s the game that is not right. Obviously the game is bad at maths.
I don’t think I’ve ever been wrong on any major point.
But deep down you know you have, and very often
OP I think your build lacks defense
I’d go with something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFQQJAoYn0HSRD23AeuBBiKYCQoVLyEpJCUc5QA-TBiAABE4ADma/BuU+pmSQAeAAqqnAT1fG5EAEA4AY4ACPcQKg8kGB-e
seems solid, you’re good to go. with my build nerfed by the feature pack i think this is the new optimum.
Yeah I think his build is terribly robust, much better than the OP.
Too bad I didn’t pre-buy the game I don’t have the wolves :/
I really like that you use the rune of the elementalist! I mean it is so strange that it has the new of our class and people don’t use it :o I think it should be core, also the condition damage is very good.
So, using your own maths guang, but correcting for the fact that warriors get to 100% crit easily:
19 hits in 10 seconds = 1.9 hit/second
6s base might * might duration = 6 * 1.75 = 10.5 might duration
Total might sustained (forceful greatsword) = 1.9 * 10.5 = 19.95 stacks on average
Add a few more things like FGJ and sigil of strength and we get to the reality.
I guess and I hope you meant WvW
Oh by the way Guang, I’ve been telling you the same thing for almost two years now so maybe it’s time you take it into account: spells do not start their cooldown until their full casting animation is over. So the actual cooldown of WWA is 11 seconds not 10.
This goes in line with your view that PS does not provide that much might. However I have much more trust in people’s ability to look at the number displayed on their screen than your maths :p
I can not imagine a d/d ele without Armor and Cleansing fire. I thought the debate was between Flash and Mist Form
But you can image ele without blink? :O
All cantrips are good so that is more about personal preferences and tactical situation. I think a lot of people would like to have slot for 4rd cantrip instead of out poor elites.
FGS isn’t that poor!
But yeah I can hardly imagine d/d without Flash, that’s why I am saying Mist Form is relatively weak
Here is the calc:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B88y8fHnpBfZRnJRdVNqVC1MYXc&usp=sharing
It’s still in its pre-patch version. I haven’t had the courage to update it since my main account got perma-banned from the forums and I got more into PvP
Applying the patch changes would be easy though.
Initially I designed it so that it would support all classes. However I had very limited knowledge on other classes so I was hoping to collaborate with people interested in developing it for their own class. Let me know if you are interested, maybe we can work something out
Bump for great justice.
Careful with that sentence: the last person I know who used it turned out to prefer tyranny and abuse of power!
I can not imagine a d/d ele without Armor and Cleansing fire. I thought the debate was between Flash and Mist Form
Cool run!
How about the ranger’s pet?
I turn out to be right as always
Hm well, except when you are wrong?
I cannot say for sure but it should use the weapon strength of those you are wielding at the moment when you pick up the hammer.
Just something odd coming from a non-mesmer: I don’t see blurred frenzy mentioned in your spreadsheet, is that normal?
I’ve always had a bit of trouble computing mesmer dps for some reasons: it is incorrect to assume phantasms will be up and running from the beginning of the fight until the end. In my calculator I made a rotation input, which allows to “design” the fight as you would do it in game (with some limitations). This would better reflect the time required to spawn the phantasms. But then it is hard to include damage sources other than that of the player. That’s why it would be interesting if you could take a look at it and let me know what you think.
My calculator was designed to support all classes, but I never had enough data for other classes than ele. So I would need help from people who play those classes to finish it
Protection on auras.
That is the only difference, and not a good one even. Zephyrs Boon gives much more and over-commiting on defense will cripple your killing ability completely.
It is basicly D/D that everyone rolls now. Except no Mist Form, which I don’t get.
Who uses mist form nowadays? It’s very weak.
My DWA test tells me DWA is a 380,9% dps increase over using no DWA, resulting in a 200% higher damage output then an elementalist. I know it must be true because my raw tests in hotm and frame by frame recording make it evidient.
Who am I?
6u4n6m47h5 !
Did I get it right?
It was actually about warlord.
Another one:
Profession X dps is 3 times as high as profession Y’s dps. My maths tells it. Even if everyone’s tests prove that in reality, profession X’s dps is half as low as profession Y’s, my maths and therefore statements are correct.
I’m not familiar enough with all the people who are bad at maths to answer your riddles
You do not need points in arcana for attunement swapping …
It does not matter what the devs want also. What matters is performance. You will need to use all attunements to perform well

Looks intresesting
(but already in a good guild :o)
It’s not about being in a good one, it’s about being in the best
This is quite decent
If you are going to work on actual DPS calculators you may want to collaborate with me and DEKeyz: we have done it for elementalists and we could expand it to other classes like the mesmer with your help.
I tested phalanx strength in low-man Arah settings and it maintains 22-25 might with strength runes and a strength sigil. Guang doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Luckily his maths saves the day!
Ele is a very good class. Best PvE advice ever: learn how to dodge, and read the guide by DEKeyz stickied in this forum.
I think Earth Embrace is better than Elemental Shielding. Also I prefer the signet to Ether Renewal.
First time playing pvp in more than a year, now ranked 81 on solo queue leaderboards lalalala
At my rock climbing gym there is a big sign that says:
The best climber is the one having the most fun
And ele is the funniest class to play.
No thanks, this is a rather poor idea. I do think they could really give us a bit more in depth Attunement swapping.
Something like:
When in Fire (for example) Pressing the Fire attunement again would put you into a stronger version that would buff up some skills and reduce cool downs of Fire skills while in Fire but putting all other Attunements on max cool down.
So you would have be careful when to use it, using it at the right time would make you very strong but using it at the wrong time could backfire if say you use it in Fire but then need healing or need mobility as they would all be put on cool down.
We have that already, it’s called conjures.
How about they just give us missile launchers as well.
Or even less probable: how about they give us PvE content!? But then I’d kind of drifting out of the subject
Attunement swapping requires some getting used to, but in the end it is the one thing that makes this class interesting!!
When I say “useless” I mean it in relative terms. Like for example Shard of Ice is not entirely useless, but I don’t think anyone has ever used this trait at any point since the release of the game!
But you should melee the ice elemental anyway
Like which boss?
I’m not sure how it works but I can confirm that it is worthless in PvE.
Guys, I just moved from PvE to PvP and I am wondering: do you realise that evasive arcana is as bad in PvP as it is in PvE ?
And that is without mentioning that going 6 in arcana makes you take arcane precision, which is the most useless trait we have ever had …
Actually I find that not covering up our conditions does work in our favour somehow.
The meta is so condition bursty that people are used to cleansing in bulk. If you are able to reply just one condition (burning, in my case) constantly then most people will face a hard choice: removing it asap or waiting for more condis to come. If they wait then they take the damage, which is what we intend to do; if they cleanse it then they are wasting their resources (over-cleanse). So if you can survive the initial clash you will win in the long term.
I’m also using a similar D/F build but I went for blinding ashes, I’m quite happy about it so far.
:o awesome idea, imagine glyph of elemental power in fire combined with blinding ashes
Yep. It is a build by EvilSnowflake that inspired me, and then Malcastus suggested the GoEP-BA combo. I’m very new to pvp but this has been working marvelously for me so far
And focus water 4 needs to be unblockable
I’m also using a similar D/F build but I went for blinding ashes, I’m quite happy about it so far.
Best PvE advice for you: read the guides at stickied at the top of this forum
Read DEKeyz’ guide first, then if you want some philosophical insight on D/F you can read my guide, but avoid the thread called “The Ele Meta” at all costs!
We’ve been asking for this since a loooong time ago, and they have been ignoring us since loooong before that
Also remember that time when I was complaining about lingering elements and they acknowledged that adept minor traits are very useless for air and fire, and that they would work on them?
someone made a suggestion making it passive but limited to the ele and the trait just makes it aoe
Yeah that was me. I keep making suggestions and they keep banning me. Eh.
