we try to close gap for greatsword but sadly, ele’s have very weak gap closers (lightning flash long cd, dagger earth 3 projectile+slow, fire 3 don’t get me started)
You can’t be serious!
Perspective of the ele: if I can weave into the mesmer it’s a sure kill, and a fast one
Deja vu
Heh, might as well take part in this
^ I’ll give you a 7

Rhetoric overload
rule number 1: don’t ever think of rotations
rule number 2: you are stronger in small team fights
Sigh … Why don’t people who want to contribute to damage calculations just contact me?? It’s a shame to see work being done twice when we could improve on what has been done instead!
Pretty sure he did improve on what’s been done before. It’s all about the presentation.
There’s plenty of math that’s been floating around on reddit as well but for one, I’m not aware of anyone doing EHP like that before, including healing power. And also combining an easy way to compare defensive and offensive stats at a glance.
It’s looking like some zealots is actually a reasonable alternative to berserker on my build.
Heh well, I guess not everybody follows what’s going on in this forum …

I am going to insist that the role of D/D is support. This is very important for the playstyle.
You D/D build is viable, its main role is support (offensive and defensive), on all maps. If you want to have a better gaming experience try the team queue
Hmm, really nice dmg. But as for this sigil of air, take into consideration that it cannot crit (hydromancy or force would be better i guess), but if you want to get highest damage, the sigil of the night is the way (10% more dmg during the night time).
PS. I hope anet doesnt see this, they can nerf ele by that XD
Don’t get me started on the way anet thinks the ele is op or how our class mechanics work. I have a long history of discussing these kind of things with them and I can tell you one thing: they do not have a clue. Guess why I am not using my main account anymore
Yes Spoj, you are right, but we are talking about inherent weapon strength. This is the value used for the damage of utilities, not weapon skills. I guess we could come up for a more appropriate name for it: how about “inherent strength” ?
I did some experiment in game (in pvp) and I found that this inherent strength has a range larger than weapon strength’s tooltip. I Found the maximum to be 1000 but since there is a chance of only about 1% to observe the actual value I would need to collect a very large sample. With 15s and 24s cooldowns for each skills it would take hours. Since this has hardly any implications for theorycrafting I’ll let anyone with too much spare take to take care of this
Edit: hah you edited your post! Yes I guess maybe the inherent strength is that of the scepter, this could very well be possible
It looks more like the distribution of the sword though (905-1000) !
(edited by Darox.8069)
From my short research, that is subject to mistakes and inadequate sample sizes, I find that the maximum inherent weapon strength possible is 1000, and the lowest is 907. This is with an exotic weapon equipped, so it may change based on weapon quality. This means that the range of the inherent weapon strength is roughly 20% larger than 1h weapons. That is if the exotic weapon strength is actually what the tooltip says it is … With Anet, you never know.
(edited by Darox.8069)
How do you mean?
I’ve never really felt like I was choosing between two or more things as a result of being kicked by Lupi.
Heal it up or stay at range I guess
Weapon strength is uniformly distributed.
Roger that, thanks
reflexes aren’t the alpha and omega of a good action game.
Really?
They did actually add some content that they specifically said not everyone will be able to do. Last time the bazaar was around there was that challenge thing with stopping the aetherblades from stealing all the loot. But that ended up being a bit of a cheese fest. And the mobs were a bit over the top with spammable cc and conditions. So it was challenging in the wrong way. But atleast anet have tried to introduce some challenging stuff. I have a feeling that the negative feedback from that challenge mission has made them reluctant to do it again though.
It was very soloable though … way to go for an mmo!
The formula is correct but forget about the concept of Utility strength, it is more confusing than anything. Instead let’s consider the normal damage formula (Damage = Weapon strength * Power * Skill coefficient / Armor) to apply in all cases, and only the source of weapon strength varies. For most skills the weapon strength used is that of the associated weapon, and for utilities it is an “inherent” weapon strength" based on your level. Conjured weapons further scale with the quality of the weapon used. It is likely that other utilities also scale with weapon quality; but testing for this would take hours.
The strength of a weapon used is randomly generated. This is why you see varying numbers when you hit. It can take values between the boundaries displayed in the weapon characteristic. We usually describe it by using its mean: 952.5 for main-hand one-handed exotic, 1000 for ascended, etc. I think one of my guild members, Wethospu, once said that the randomly generated weapon strength is not normally distributed. This could be true, but it has too few practical implications to actually be worth testing.
This is the only part that can vary, and that is random, in the damage formula. All the rest is fixed. When we compute damage we usually use the mean weapon strength as it is the expected value. Technically, if you are looking for the highest possible burst then you can use the upper boundary for weapon strength, yes, but it would hardly have any implication in-game.
D/D is viable for spvp again. And actually reall good. It kittens on thieves especially
I get wrecked by good thieves though !
Wat. D/D has so much PBAoE its thieves worst nightmare
d/d eles should kind of mostly beat thiefs , maybe u arent using celestial amu?
Of course I am. But talented boon stealing thieves often beat me 1v1. I am not very experienced though, so maybe with more training I would learn how to beat them. The thing is duel versus thieves don’t usually last long, so I would have to be a quick learner
!

Am I going to start a huge cat fight, or a cat gang fight, if I say that I prefer Iris?
There’s a one second delay between swapping attunements
is there an internal cooldown on weak spot?
No cooldown on weak spot
The base attunement swapping cooldown is 1.625 second, it is reduced by arcane points with the formula: 1.625 / ( 1 + arcane points * 5 / 100 )
The minimum recharge time being: 1.625 / ( 1 + 6 * 5 / 100 ) = 1.25 seconds
Maybe give him a PM for help.
Thanks, I did just that
So I have been summoned
I thought I would reply to your PM in this thread so that everybody can see the answer.
How to calculate the damage from utilities
We are talking about arcane wave and arcane blast, since these are the only two utilities we could imagine being used to damage in a burst combo.
Based on my short research, these skills have a coefficient of power of 1.037
You must keep in mind the fact that they automatically hit critically (crit mod not included in the coefficient mentioned here).
For PvP, use the “inherent” exotic weapon strength of 952.5
For PvE, I need to test whether these skills actually scale with weapon quality like the conjured weapons. If yes then add 5% damage if you are wielding an ascended weapon. The weapon damage in itself is likely irrelevant, only the quality matters.
I hope this is useful
16) When you make a claim the burden of proof is on the people you are trying to convince
Now that this is covered you may explain how your opinions build up on the existing theory
Review of the litterature
Yes it can be, depending on your stats, and it is more likely if you run runes of strength.
6) isn’t funny at all, I’m absolutely sick of reading that bile.
Where is the discussion on roleplay factor when we need it?
S/F+LH is better than S/D+LH in most situations. This is due do its superior might stacking combo: it takes less time and deals more dps. Therefore it works best if you are going to stack in combat. However, the off-hand dagger allows for an easier might stacking out of combat.
Let’s just hope the chinese like content
Am I the only one to think that dodging affects both builds almost exactly the same way?
Do you include ramp-up time in your tests?
Also what mob are you testing on in PvE? Do you have the armor value?
Fractals drops will never be fixed at least until a fotm 50 gives 5-7 times more gold than arah.
No we don’t want it. We want content. We want a studio that stops making false promises.
so are d/d and d/f without fresh air.
On the topic or rT runs, like I said, we are very “play the way you want” which is very different from most other high level guilds. The idea is that you can experiment with what you want, as long as you can pull your weight. This has enabled us to look into uncharted territory like no one before. I don’t know if you have read my guide but this is what I meant in my introduction: “know no limits, try everything, have no fears”. And this way we can be quite innovative for our record runs, when we play seriously
It’s the best of both worlds. We have fun while we run, and we enjoy excellence when we perform. I used to be an average player, then I met people from rT and I strived to join them because of this philosophy that is so unique in gw2. I don’t mean to preach too much, but I’m having a great time in this guild
I usually roam with my warrior or engi and play in zerg with my staff ele. All of them have no trouble with sustaining swiftness [x . x]
Yep, and that’s why these runes are useless in PvE. Now you can draw the conclusions you want about the person I mentioned earlier
Well Guang would use it on his engi.
Potions and sigils of slaying?
Isn’t axe coefficient split for PvP and PvE ?
Oh you mean he is doubting of our skill level? I did not detect the sarcasm
i love when it – my new meta threads never seem to fail in causing overreactions, just look at my phalanx warrior new meta thread from a little while ago.
When you’re suggesting something that is not already widely accepted you will be met with those who don’t agree. This is why before suggesting, always back it up with facts and examples. Whether you’re right or wrong doesn’t matter.
Bloody hell, if everybody could do that it would be a huge step forward!
You can’t put meta and solo in the same sentence
Is an example of our record runs.
As for usual runs though, we are one of the most “play the way you want” guild, which surprises a lot of people
Darox, have u ever been without even 1 gold in your inventory?
Yep, every character I have ever created has started with 0 gold. It’s been tough.
There are new people in this game, also there are people who like to run 3-4 dungeons with their friends, but they dont like scholar because they cant maintain their health over 90%.
If you can’t think of these posibilities then i guess you are the only person on the game who is not getting even 1 hit inside any dungeon.
Note: Not everyone is skilled player or experienced dodger or w/e u try to state here.
I am not stating anything of the sort. You mentioned a “decent DPS group” so I assumed that would mean a group that can dodge well enough to make good use of runes of the scholar. The strength of that assumption was reinforced by looking at the builds you posted: they are designed for advanced speedruns, or record runs, where participants have high skill levels.
Flame Legion are great for me and my friends, also one guy said they were usefull for their team as well.
You don’t need to badmouth the runes just because u might have spent 80g in strength and u are proud of them.
I spent a grand total of 12 gold on my strength runes. I did not realise the prices had gone up so high. I guess then you would have a point to talk about flame legion runes. Maybe if you made that point clear from the start we wouldn’t have had this conversation.
Try to think about the use of Flame Legion Runes and the possibility of not maintaining over 90% health.
Then make a DPS sheet with these numbers, but without 10% of scholar.
After that add 7% for the Flame Legion and answer to me.Which runes are better if 80% of the fights u cant maintain your health over 90%?
I’m asking this because most of my friends without speedrun guild are not able to maintain their health over 90%, but they have decent DPS.
I’ll be waiting for your answer now.
I hope u wont say anything like “if u can’t… you are noobs” and things like that.
I already posted that my friends are not in any speedrun guild so just thing about what i wrote and post according to these posibilities, not yours.
I am well aware of the efficiency of rune sets considering feasibility frontiers. After all I am one of the few people who made a publicly available dps calculator taking these things into account
My point still stands: flame legion runes are a bad option. But considering the current price of strength runes I can now understand why people would be interested in this suboptimal set.
Finally, you do not need to be so aggressive, just be clearer
What I understand is that you posted two builds, one of which is very peculiar, and a statement about strength runes, all this just to say that flame legion runes are cheaper.
The reason we use strength runes is because we do fight for longer than 35 seconds in fractals. In speedruns we use runes of the scholar.
So no, I don’t see the alternative. If you are going to invest into something cheap that has no uses anywhere then that is a bad option, not an alternative. It’s simply better to save up until you can buy the best option
Don’t botch it though
So the whole point of your thread is go for flame legion runes instead of strength because they are cheaper?
Then do five engis
