Well yes indeed there are some builds that are designed for record runs, but apart from for the guilds competing in this category they are of little interest to the general public.
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but skills go on cooldown after they have been used.
I can confirm this
Heh well, there are also the destructible golems
Yep good fight
You could use swirling wind and magnetic wave in p1 for a relaxing time.
For an even more laid back encounter just pop FGS
Also in the opening of the p2, when you say don’t rush in, I usually use IB5&4, but that implies that I kept lightning flash off cd to be able to channel safely.
Most pugs struggle with dodges. What if the new meta for pugs revolved around chilling all foes = 66% more cooldown = 66% less dodge required ?
Does this even work on mobs and bosses?
That’s the beauty with this game, you have tooltips, dev comments, and what really happens. It’s three games in one!
Well you are all talking about damaging conditions, which we all know aren’t viable due to stack limitations, but how about non-damaging conditions?
Most pugs struggle with dodges. What if the new meta for pugs revolved around chilling all foes = 66% more cooldown = 66% less dodge required ?
@Ropechef: you would be surprised what certain guilds ask for entry requirements
I’m not sure how well I can help with the support side, since this game is designed to have support primarily through boons rather than healing. But with DPS, ele staff DPS can be some of the best in the game if you know what you’re doing.
I think the build is 6/4/2/2/0 or some permutation of that involving persisting flames and +damage traits (the vuln stacking minor in air can work as well).
You can probably run less zerker for world bosses but for dungeons zerker is ideal. I’m not sure of the rotations myself, but I know that blasting and keeping lava font up all the time to give your party might and fury is important.
6/2/2/2/2 or 6/2/4/2/0. 6/2/2/2/4 if you need vigor to survive in a pug. Taking 4 in Air is pointless unless you’re planning on going at least 5 points in for Weak Spot.
Arcane lightning
So like for example, since you do not want to do a speedrun to prove your point you would not ask us to do that, right?
More seriously, do you think that only a few mines from the minefield would benefit from the damage boost if they were to be triggered at 51%?
And once again Guang shows his ignorance … this is the most important thing you had to suggest to increase the speed of the run.
- You had the engie burst Brie when your warrior was standing right there.
But… did’t you explicitly compare engi’s burst to warrior’s saying that engi is best? :o
Hold on, i have to grab my popcorn now.
This thread is making me fat!
Well they could very easily make a system where the dungeons created would be tested by the players. A player testing a dungeons would get a fixed reward, only the first time they run it and only if they agree to rate the dungeon. Top rated dungeons would then be reviewed by Anet and the devs would just have to allocate loot to them.
This way players would have incentives to try everything and only the best quality content would be worth replaying. It’s a win for everybody
I was thinking, since the devs are reluctant to release any kind of meaningful PvE content, what ever the reason, maybe it would be sweet if the game was open for content modding like games such as Skyrim for example.
- The loot is irrelevant anyway
- The community is much more passionate about the game than who ever is developing it
- The framework is already in place with Fractals of the Mists
- It would make people stay on the game at virtually no costs for the studio and much more enjoyment for the players
Thoughts?
Don’t use double tap to dodge.
What do you use instead?
Space bar! For massive “Oh S….!” moments when I need to smash it like my life depends on it!!
My life does depend on it, virtually, but still.
We are arguing with someone who has zero speedrun experience.
What this game needs is an open editor, like Skyrim.
Or a dedicated dungeon content team who would put out a new dungeon with 3 paths every 6 months or so.
They would need to get paid for that. Also they would need to plan for it. But most unlikely they would need to want it!
I think there are plenty of dedicated modders out there who would jump on the opportunity to show their talent by creating community dungeons. The only problem would be balancing loot tables, and lore.
Best way to learn to dodge is the leveling process, if you do not abuse dungeon xp!
Basically each mob has a type. Each type has specific animations and similar skills. So when you encounter easy mobs as you level, focus on dodging. You will rapidly get the hang of it. Then when you get to real PvE encounters you will be prepared for all types of mobs.
What this game needs is an open editor, like Skyrim.
I don’t really play this game that much anymore
Okay, /thread.
Personally I dont care what the rT guys say.
Youre saying engi’s are baller.
Ok how? Gimme some numbers, a build, a rotation.
I have an engi gathering dust I would love to carry him some more than my ele or guard. Gimme something so I can tell my guild mates “Here is Guang’s proof, numbers, build, rotation etc. Get with the times Engi = supermeta”
Or you know what? Ignore the rT guys! There are people who want to see what you have come up with. kitten or not it is something to look at. Youre so stuck on arguing with em that you cant properly display your theory and supporting facts.
This insnt rT asking “How are engi’s good?” This is some random skrublord who wants to use his engi in SC’s effectively. Bloody enlighten me! I cant be the only “lurker” reading this crap wondering what the details of your theory are.
The thing is I have read Guang’s thread and his posts on the DnT forum. I am well aware of all his theory and I could summarise it here for you, objectively. I would have to differentiate between two things though: there is the build/rotation he advises for casual running, and the speedrun part. I think we should disregard anything not related to speedruns because it is really a matter of environment. So alright, let’s assume he would go for scholars instead of travelers runes, full zerker instead of giver’s, and proper sigils.
Of course, I am going to assume he would go for Explosive powder (+10% dmg on explosions) rather than Short fuse (-20% cd on grenades).
Here is Guang ideal burst rotation:
BOB: 603 + 200
Fire Bomb: 286
Grenade Barrage: 1025 + 200
Throw Mine: 334
Mine Field: 1249 + 200 + 200
Jump Shot: 1044
Blunderbuss: 618
Shrapnel Grenade: 591
Freeze Grenade: 538
The numbers are unscaled lvl 80 damage figures, according to him, and the +200 represent Static Discharge procs. All figures come from Guang.
Then he proceeds to apply a scaling of his own to provide a dps figure for a speedrun situation: “an effective direct DPS of 16634 with all possible buffs, for 7 seconds, after which it drops down to a more reasonable 11609 for all cooldowns averaged over an indefinite period, plus by that time you should have a good 10 or so bleeds minimum for an extra 800 or so DPS.”
In comparison, Guang proposes his numbers for the scaled burst of a warrior: 14127 DPS
Right, so this is Guang’s theory. I could be right, it could be wrong, but let’s not get into that just yet.
His theory is all about damage. From this offensive potential he concludes that engis must be valuable for speedruns.
The response that rT is trying to express, is that speedruns are not all about damage. In fact, even if I used my own findings about the engi to boost its damage higher than what Guang could come up with, it would not matter. Dub has stated it clearly: what ever the damage the engi can provide, it is a burden to the team by all practical means.
So now we can certainly discuss the damage potential of the engi, and I intend to do so, with more accurate data than what Guang uses. I dislike “kitchen theorycrafting”. If we are going to evluate this properly then we need coefficients, mechanics, cast times, and feasibility frontier. I could work on this, maybe Keyz would be interested too.
In the meantime, my opinion is that practical experience beats “kitchen theorycrafting”. If the engi ever becomes useful in speedruns it will not be thanks to the rough calculations Guang came up with. Because let’s face it, this is nothing revolutionary. What beats records is clever tactics.
What I like about this guy is that he is consistent in his dishonesty and he does not go half way!
am i the only one who fell in love in the way he opened the thread and made the post? nohomo ofc
Yeah I actually liked the opening
I like to use arrogance myself, but only to bring forth heavy derision afterwards. I guess my judgement is not subtle enough to spot trolls easily! Or maybe it is because I actively lobby for a more informed ele community, and any bad build, troll or not, is not helping.
Well, the optimum guangs composition can get out of arah path 2 is like a 13-14 minutes run. Thats about as fast as an arah duo of an elementalist and a warrior, striving for a great time. It’s about 4 minutes slower than what a proper setup is capable of.
Well, my thought is that both sides should bring video evidence. In your mind, the answer is a foregone conclusion, and in Guanglai’s mind, the answer is a foregone conclusion. The resolution is simply to put the video evidence out there. No extenuating circumstances, no excuses once the videos are released.
Best evidence that engis do not have their place in a speedrun? We are not using them.
You may say that it is cyclical logic, but look closely: we strive to claim the highest number of speed records. Sure some of us do not appreciate Guang, but the truth is that we do not care at all. If we were to hear about a way to be faster and claim more records, we would use it!!
That particular quote is really just expounding on the notion that you can progress towards end-game gear (such as it is) by various means. So, PvP, WvW, PvE, Open World, LS, etc,. and tying in with ANet’s pro-casual design direction.
Yeah I guess that since end-game does not exist in gw2, you can do what ever you want
Yeah but that was after the launch of the game.
It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play
They clearly say stay true to our philosophy So it was already their philosophy even before Colin mentioned it again in that article.
I agree, but I don’t believe they ever worded it out that way before.
Yeah but that was after the launch of the game.
So you run runes of the traveler while your healing skill alone is enough to maintain permanent swiftness? I am baffled.
That in addition to RTL and elemental attunement is a mobility overkill.
Everybody have issues with condition removal. Your build has 2 condition removals every 11.25 seconds at best, which is not much.
So, it’s a WvW build is it not?
Try it in PvP then let me know who’s a beginner again!
Talented players tend to produce more that just statements about themselves
I produced the new imba build that will become the meta for all Elementalists. Not my fault if you don’t want to grasp this glyph bull by the horns and ride that rodeo through all the DPS Guardians Sunrises.
What’s revolutionary about this build?
I tried glyph builds before, albeit not that all-in. Basically GoEP is very nice, but the rest is not that much. The AI is useless, it will get destroyed within a few seconds in team fights. The buffs are good for regen uptime but essentially useless for the rest. The cast times are long and easy to interrupt. But most importantly you will get wrecked by lack of condition removal.
Is it normal that the build editor shows runes of the traveler?
This is impressive!
Talented players tend to produce more that just statements about themselves
Love arrows the way you want
I can teach you!
If you play the piano as you play in gw2 then in no time I will be able to one-finger the flight of the bumblebee while solving two Rubik’s cubes, yeah, I’m in!
I have never heard of you and I could not find you in the top of solo queue ladders nor team arena.
Maybe you should get more informed about the game? Thorp is obviously very up to date and in the know, so…
Yeah my ignorance is public knowledge by now.
Anyway maybe you can provide us with some videos to showcase what you can do with your build?
I have never heard of you and I could not find you in the top of solo queue ladders nor team arena.
Zelyhn don’t leave us in the dark! Share your findings please!
I want to but I have this personal rule to hold onto the publication of anything until I master it. I have not found anything ground breaking, the build I would use is still 66002. I need to work on coefficients and cast times before I can be certain. And as Lorek would put it, I need “piano lessons”!
Incidentally, I just soloed Arah P2 with my engie in six minutes including the loading screen and without skipping any cutscenes, let’s see you beat that.
I can’t wait to see that!
Inb4 world record for soloing lupicus on engi is 6 minutes
Theorycraft the way you want
Just tested max dps engi build in a non organized setting.
Never again, worse reliability than necro.
Note to the reader: the max dps engi build is not the one that Guang published. It took us a few minutes to come up with something better, and still, it’s bad.
Now don’t tell me that was from guang.
:D
Guys I need your detailed opinion on this engi build I found:

There are a grand total of 2 instabilities that are “gear gating” (the same was already there in the form of unavoidable Jade Maw btw, but I suppose we ignore that). One at lvl 40 and the other at lvl 50.
Which still means a grand total of NINE instabilities that should be counted as new content (by your logic) seeing as every single one from lvl 31 to lvl 40 is fully possible to do without the gear gate.
If you count instabilities as a new content, maybe we should count gem store items as well?
And new achievements!
This thread is the worst thing since atse
It was just as bad for as long as we had only Guangmaths to deal with, but now, ladies and gentlemen, we are facing an all new kind of challenge. Let me introduce ….
Guangmyths!
There are indestructible dummies in Queensdale (the town with the crafting stuff), though its not a level 80 area, so not sure if that would be an approrpriate testing ground. I think it would be, seeing as all you are looking for is weapon coefficients. Let me know if that helps.
Thanks but we do need level 80
I’m invariably proven right as always.
You simply live in your own dream mate.
You do no read our posts, you do not understand the issues, you completely make up stories. We are only taking part in a discussion with you because it is fun to see with what kind of madness you will come up next.
Wow you managed to make Leman post, Guang, that does not happen often. And when it does, it’s meaningful.
As for your engi rotations, it took Dub and I no more than two minutes to come up with something better than yours. This sounds awfully familiar to the time you did not include meteor shower in your staff ele rotation
(Despite me having been talking about ele rotations and staff potential for many months before you wrote your thread ….)
You can debate me vs. Zelyhn but honestly I trust me more lol. He doesn’t really have the best track record with the whole “dagger ele is best DPS” thing and conversely I don’t think you actually have any evidence for my math ever actually being wrong, but that’s neither here nor there.
Wow
So you can check my entire posting history and you will never find me saying “dagger ele is best DPS”. However you will find looooooooots of posts showing you failing at maths.
Edit: as for the rest of your post, wut?
(edited by Darox.8069)
Are we really going to count (more or less identical) levels as content now?
In that case we should also count those 20 Instabilities which actually are new unique things.
Which makes your calculation quite a bit off.
I am already counting instabilities, look, I said “gear gating”.
Because let’s be serious, no one ever does the instabilities apart from x0’s and 49. And even still, people doing 49 only do so because they do not have the gear to do 50. So yeah, gear gating.
So nope, instabilities (= gear gating) is just a way to make it longer to reach content that was already there before the patch.
So instabilities = less content
Whelp, it’s in the dungeon forums, the other dev recycle bin.
Recycle bin is a nice way to call this concentration camp.
I suggest we rename the dungeon subforum to Auschwitz
Alternatively they could call it what it is: look at the dungeon forum icon,
It’s a pile of s..omething in a frame.
You are correct, what I have been saying is erroneous: There has not been content addition since november two years ago. That’s because in the “Fractured” patch they removed more content than they added.
Hm?
I might remember incorrectly, but I seem to recall they removing a grand total of nothing in the way of content with that patch, while adding 4 new fractals.
Indeed you remember incorrectly, which is strange because “Fractured” is associated with “never forget”, for good reasons.
- added 4 fractals = 40% more content
- removed 30 levels = 40% less content
- gear gating, deceiving, abusing powers, and disrupting rewards = less fun
- Fun contents me
>> Grand total = less content
