Maybe you are using a sigil of battle?
So there’s that and also depending on rotations LH will be doing one more hit in the Flamewall. In a proper group you will generally not have to generate that much might all by yourself anyway.
You will never get double might stacks for a single blast. When blasting multiple fields only the oldest one, that was laid first, will be taken into account.
I can’t wait for your thread in 2015 Guang:
“oh guys actually Engis are not that good”
Well they banned my main account, so I can’t update my threads
Interestingly enough though, they still haven’t unstikied them and they implement many of my suggestions. I guess I have a good cop bad cop relationship with Anet!
Anyhow, my topics are generally out of date but Keyz’s is accurate.
If the dark lord yells at me enough then you will see a new topic of mine pretty soon
I pressed the +1 button so technically yes
IT’S SUPER OBVIOUS THAT NO ONE ACTUALLY READ THE POST AND EVERYONE WAS JUST REACTING TO THE JOKE TITLE SO I’LL JUST STATE THIS OUTRIGHT: RANGERS ARE BAD EVEN IF THEY’RE PLAYED PROPERLY.
Looks like you are as talented with jokes as you are with theorycrafting
Well the one thing you forgot to take into account is that each of these spells (apart from the self healing skills) have an area of effect. So technically they can do five times what you listed here. For example a geyser would do 5147.1 over two seconds to each person standing in it so that is 25735.5 for a full group. Not too sloppy anymore heh?
The tooltip got a huge nerf indeed, bloody hell, I won’t use that tooltip anymore
Well guardian staff 1 is terrible so I’m not sure you are using the right benchmark here
Guang, if there is a difference between your practice and your theory then you are doing one of them wrong. My guess is that it’s both
There are many assumptions that we must take into account when calculating DPS. That is because encounters can require many different formats of combat. We always use specific rotations. These can change a lot depending on the encounter. Any proper theorycrafter (like Keyz) will compute DPS figures by considering total cast times (cast + channel + aftercast) and feasibility frontiers (i.e. can we really perform the rotation consistently). You can find the data we mined for cast time in Keyz’s guide (my post at the top of this forum is outdated and my account has been banned). Once this is done we usually record the total rotation time in pvp. The combination of damage figures calculated theoretically and in-game performance monitoring gives really accurate DPS figures. Bear in mind that not all theorycrafters use this method, so make sure to pick carefully who you listen to
Edit: Zel no helping her!
But .. ?
:s
It’s not a bug. The tooltip never took into account aftercasts, so it takes only 0.2s into account, and it rounds down to the lowest 0.25s so 0s. Just thank Anet for being so terrible at listening to me while I have been asking for better tooltips for two years
Same goes for Frozen field
Anet does not hate conditions in PvE. Anet hates PvE.
So all four 90 minutes rounds will take place on the same day?
There was no arrogance on behalf of rT really, we are not an “ego” guild! The tournament took place in the wrong month for us. But let’s no delve into extenuating circumstances. The tournament was really nice, all teams had memorable performances, and SC definitely deserves the win!
Wethospu’s thinking should be taken out of context. Let’s try to think about what would make competition more interesting
You need to tell us more about the way this score goes
Nice job SC!!
You posted this at 10:31 CEST so I guess it is +6 then not +7? Ah, thanks mate, timezone maths is a headache for me
She does a little jump right before it
And so 1100 EST = 1800 CET, right?
I think someone was just mad that a community-made tournament in PvE has better rewards and more hype than anything that has ever been organised for WvW even by Anet
Butterflies flying everywhere!! Yeeee!
This “tournament” is a joke, that’s why the teams just left. DnT organised, this crap to be more famous, because nobody cares about thier and the community records. You dont need skill to stand in the corner and use FGS or switch skills while running in stealth. The “competition”, or anything you call it, will be the random factor. I think the organizers of this tournament and the “speed clear” community, just wants more fame.
Dont blame the teams left, they just lost the fun factor, because there wont be any.
This tournament is just for this “speed clear” crew, boring kitten will flow from the streams!
But this is my opinion, have fun…
Let us tournament the way we want, scumbag averagist!!
I said no one!!
Nope, no one on this forum knows. Especially not any guidemaker with a stickied thread at the top of this forum. No one.
Yeah in theory you could be right but in practise we all know that Nike is doing a really good job at organising this tournament and quitting for no valid reason is a serious lack of respect not only for him but also for the other teams that could not take part in it!
Hm how to put it … This will not attract hardcore players but players who can use their impressive skills to farm and buy agony resistance on the tp !
SkillWars2, you know it.
Wow thanks guys!! You have been very helpfull!! I a couple questions. The dungeon beserker armor (inquest) I am wanting has runes already and the more pieces you have the better the stats. Do I switch these runes out for health runes? Is that even a possibility? I will get trinkets for health and toughness. That’s a good idea. I believe i am good at dodging. That’s not an issue. Have dodge set to a mouse button for convenience.
Trust me dodging is always an issue!
When I started playing, I was what some people would call “a noob”
First I was playing staff (6/6/0/0/2). I had this weapon because it was easier to level up with it due to loot, or so it seemed at the time (I was wrong). I quickly understood that in order to deal damage I would have to go for full zerker. I was at range so there was only little danger. I was not doing Arah nor fractals though. When I started facing more challenging content I noticed that I required more defense because I was not able to dodge everything. Please pay close attention to this: this only reason why I was not good enough at dodging is because I had played at range the whole time; if I had played in melee I would have learned how to dodge. So I looked at what I could do to improve my survivability. I quickly understood that it was “cheaper” in terms of efficiency to use defensive traits rather than defensive gear. So I used the famous 0/2/0/6/6 build (Evasive Arcana was op at that time). Then I understood that going at range will almost always be less efficient than being in melee. There is a reason for this: being at range is passive defense, this must be compensated in order for the game to be balanced, so melee will almost always be more productive. This is when I switched to d/d. As I became better I changed my traits to 0/6/0/6/2 (No fresh air yet). Still full zerker. This is the set up in which my gameplay progressed the most: I was melee so I could learn how to dodge, I had defensive traits to heal my mistakes. This is how to went to do fractals 80. While having great fun in this now removed part of the game (never forget) I understood that defensive traits are less potent than active defense. In fact healing is almost passive defense since it is re-active instead of pro-active. So I grabbed a focus and dropped my water points. This is when Fresh Air and Persisting Flames where introduced. The rest is in my sticky at the top of this forum
Point of the story being: if you want to progress go melee, don’t use passive defense, but you may invest in healing capabilities in order to be able to learn. The key to being efficient with any class is mastering the art of dodging.
I suppose in some ways my timing could have been a bit better. With the Tourney announced and kicking off, i did not really expect a whole lot of running for this after that announcement was made.
The tourney was announced after you made your challenge proposal
Yep, you will need to use dodge
Nice job Weth! Can you give us an equation now? :p
Or drop the idea of dungeons all together. Fractals are much better
English keyboard:
RDFG=move
Z=jump
SpaceBar=Dodge (mash it!!)
3456=attunements
S=Heal
ETVBN=skills
YHX=utilities
J=utlimate
W=next enemy
Q=sheath weapons
And you can bind many keys around this area for other stuff
Well I doubt that DnT wants to make this a wholly-DnT thing
I mean they call it DnT just because they took the ideas we developed in this forum and simply made it happen by providing the first large donation for the prize pool, as well as contacting grouch I guess. I’m pretty sure that in the future they intend to participate. For now they are certainly devoting a lot of their resources to this so it’s only fair that they get credits for it. We needed someone to make the move! Subsequent tournaments will likely be independent
That, and also all capital city map chat should be linked.
We’ve been asking for this for two years now
But hey, don’t worry, the devs are listening! Oh wait, that’s an other game actually.
You have the right intentions but the wrong perspective: the weapon skill set is not too bad, but what is ridiculously poorly designed is the PvE content
You can theory craft for every context, although my favourite is definitely the fractals, and that’s why I designed the DF build for in the first place
I don’t do much “casual” speedrunning. I find it quite boring. I like record attempts because they make you think out of the box. Otherwise PHYW fractals is the way to go!
It’s really a matter of context.
In a record run you would have fights last no longer than 15 seconds, so the front-loaded damage and might generation of S+LH would be superior. D/F generates might continuously, so it takes time before it reaches its full buffing potential. Assuming your group is able to provide full buffs, there are some S+LH(FGS) specs that are designed to beat any other dps. You get the idea.
I would say that DF is the best general option. But you can specialise more with other builds.
I do have 2 questions. Do organizers intend to organize more of those events and if so do they intend to participate in next editions?
If it’s fun and successful for sure we’ll do more. Whether we participate will be up in the air depending whether we can establish a system where there would be clear enough rules that no bias could come into play. This one is really a learning lesson proof of concept so we’ll evaluate it afterwards.
It is impossible to establish rules that no bias would come in play. If organizers participate, there will always be a question whether or not they were neutral. It is very naive to think this is possible.
editted for politeness.
Thanks for the philosophy lesson Socrates.
I’m just saying organisers shouldn’t join. Or if they join and compete vs another team, atleast let someone, other then the organisers or guildies, judge if that run went according to the rules.
Yeah don’t worry mate, we designed the rules as a community and the community will judge of their application anyway. So far there has not been any problem with that
And really, DnT are being very cautious not to provoke anyone by not participating, but it’s obvious they should join the competition! Credits to them for being overly tactful.
On the topic of sample sizes, I tried to do a little check on your data. Here is my thought process. It could be wrong, but it’s worth investigating.
I compare the relative spread ((max-min)/average) of the damage you observed to the relative spread of the expected weapon strength. Then I check if the variation between the two would be enough to justify at least a 1 point difference in observed weapon strength range. In layman terms: “did we miss a min or max value for weapon strength rolls by at least one point in the experiment?”
Input the following formula in G37:
=((G20-G18)/G19)/((G31-G29)/G30)*(G31-G29)-(G31-G29)
(which can obviously be simplified but its just so you know the though process)
The output value is the difference between the observed damage spread translated into weapon strength spread and the expected weapon strength spread.
If its absolute value is higher than 1 then it means that the observed spread is different enough to say that we missed a min or max value by at least 1 point of weapon strength. Anything below an absolute value of 1 should be fine because of rounding down.
What I am not sure about is that the threshold value is indeed 1. It could be more, or less, due to rounding down in the damage calculations. Let me know what you think.
Edit: also I am not sure what is the threshold to justify that coefficients are wrong.
Edit2: I guess the proper threshold would be to use the value computed by my formula as a weapon strength in the damage formula using the computed coefficients to see if the difference is large enough to say that we missed a min or max observed damage value by at least one point. (input =G37*G26*G8/G23*G35 in G38 and =G37*G26*G10/G23*G35 in G39, if any has an absolute value superior to 1 (or 0.5?) then we have a problem)
Anyway, some results are outstanding: -5.6 for swordsman in wvw, +33.8 for warden in wvw, and -4.5 for berzerker in wvw.
This suggests that something really went wrong with the warden.
(edited by Darox.8069)
Do you have any idea how much Defender bonus Ropechef had in WvW when you did the test? It is supposed to apply to monster hits only, but that could include phantasms, and this could explain the inverse split compared to normal skills.
This is definitely MASSIVE
Vote for Kiel again to counter this!
Well it’s a terrible trait in the first place. And then the real question is why take it?
Wow thanks for publishing all your data and calculations! This is very valuable to me!
I don’t know if I’ll have enough self restrain to keep being civil. I’m already at my limit.
I can imagine
So you confirm that the armor used in tooltips is 2600?
Or find a train in EotM?
Sounds like fun!
Did any of you guys get epic encounters with Zhaitanicia? I see this boss flying around me at all times so much that I feel like I’m dragonborn
