I’m not referring to raiding solely. I’m preempting the referral to raiding by stating that the class itself is difficult to play

the engineer is so difficult to play that it isn’t meta because it is not fun.

the Engineer core being still total and utter far too difficult to play crap.

What is so hard about using F2, F3, F4, while spamming Bomb autoattack (which the game mostly does automatically), then once in awhile switching to rifle to burst #3 and #5 then spamming bomb autoattack again?

boom, 26-30k DPS on Golem.

Look, we have a lot of issues, but DPS is not one of them. Engi is one of the easiest high-dps classes in the game.

Yep but why bring this build if tempest do it better. Why bring power bomb engi? Condi have his niche. Seeker control, spirit control…condi build offer great mob cc thanks to many blinds, immobilize and cc.

As bomb engi you shine on VG (but you will be condi here for green circle job), on gorse – tempest win (large target, orb clear) on sabetha you shine ok. At w2 engi not offer too much.

So , why you need engi, if other proffesions, make things better? We have great utilities, like land mine for boon strip and good cc, elixir U for projectile defense, rocket turret for some cc if need more cc, EG/elixir C for condi clearing – but theese skills are locked behind kits. If you need something, what your squad missing, you must pay by your dmg.

- this build has good ratio between defense and offense. Thanks for high boon duration we can easily reach 25 stack might, perma fury, and other 5 perma boons.
- rapid regen has no place here. Superspeed is best granted by final salvo, but using it is pointless.
- toughness increase our power by ~400 (food, and scrappy trait) .
- use bulky gyro against hard hitting meele, if you want burst dmg, swap to elixir U. For even more burst, swap inventions to firearms(not recommended)
- this build can easily defeat 2-4 players alone. Don’t force them too long, you rely on your sustained heal. Use rocket charge/sneak gyro/shock sheild to escape.
-your dmg is decent, but against bunkers use poison on EG #3 .
-your main counter is necro. Swap to more offensive option.
- don’t use it in coordinated zergs. You have your own boons, this build work only in solo/duo roaming.

Stats:
Offense: 6/10 (25might, fury, quick, passive power+)
Defense: 9/10 (protection, toughness, bulky gyro)
Sustain: 9/10 (healing power from cleric ones, evades.. )
Mobility: 3/10 (perma swift, rocket charge, acid bomb)

This build suffer from low mobility. Your dmg is not high like marauder players buffed by team. You excell in passive defense, and high sustain. You only missing to be 10/10 defense a invulnerability, and for sustain 2nd heal. So this build make a bunker scrapper with nice dmg.

If you detonate Healing turret, you rocket charge/acid bomb for extra healing. Blast poison field for area weakness. Use super elixir if you expect fight on point (easy 250 hp/sec). Youcan use elixir s + elixir x if you want pushing far, and avoid team fight. You have low dmg, so use your poison as much as you can. You can be beaten only by good necro. In other 1v1 scenarios, you should never die, or loose point. Next hard counter: warrior – be carefull on headbutt. You will never kill alone: tempest, good thief, druid. Just only hold point and wait for your teammate, or , if you are brave, outnumber your enemy.

Important thing about engi in spvp is, change your build, customize your utilities on demand your team and what you expect from enemy. Few times I was switching into my personal condi build (1x druid,2x tempest against us) We had not expecting condi class in team, and I was definetly destroying tempests on point in 15-20sec. But this is only rare scenario…
Blasty gyro is useless in many times…trust me. I was running it this seasson, until I reach 1800 rat. Then I start using purge gyro (for poison,blast poison for weakness) and weakness removal. If I expect heavy burst, I switch elixir S and Elixir X. Changing runes, amulets, everything to be most prepared to fight.
Sometimes is better stay in paladin, sometimes I switch to mender, rare times to marauder or traibalizer for condi. Yep, it can happen then I was make few times mistake, but it was practice and now I know. So , try to tweak your build, try to expect what you will do in match(heavy fight? bring bulky/purge gyro/stealth gyro … or solo far holder? bring bulky/elixir s / elixir X , or do you expect to dealing alone with tempest/druid? then bring blasty)

And end match with top revieves as much as you can. It’s your job.

Missing old days with nades too.… scrapper is boring to play. I don’t need watch enemy animation, only my HP and bath in final salvo to regenerate hp.… really? I will better delete scrapper, because devs touch traits in inventions. Why? Why nerf core traits. I bet you, if scrappet not using inventions, only core builds, that invention traitline nobody care.

And last nail in the coffin was removed daze from gyros.… only one think what makes scrapper a little bit ok to play because what to say.… purity of prupouse..

Pvp – for me “boring fine”. Gold age of SD, 100nades.…
Wvw – in some scenarios master of solo roaming.
Pve – why bring engi if we bring only some blinds. Our fun gyro should have effect on live ally.…

Hi,
I have issue, when I thinking to log ranked if I know that loose give me -15 and win +10. It’s not that hard like others have, but it’s not motivation to play spvp intensively.

I know that loose -15 rat and win + 10 is right, but dissapointment for many pvpers who now thinking to log or not.

So , I think that way to keep pvpers play ranked, is to improve decay system. There should be daily decay, no every 3 days. This decay should decrease your rating but not each day for same ammount. For example:

1st day: -20
2nd day: -13
3rd day: -8
4th day: like is now

This meaby can eliminate situation where you gain +2 rating and loose -20. Because all ppl will have each day rating decreased, you can gain +15 and loose -20. (And no +2 / -20). Yep some ppl loose 20rat thanks to decay, and another 15 because loose match. But on other hand, you can climb faster, and you doesn’t need farm 10wins for 1 loose.

Btw: this is only one of many suggestions how to improve spvp. I like how devs work on pvp, and if here some kind of mathematicall person, he can freely count if this is way or black hole.

Look, I will extremely in euforia welcome your suggestion, if rocket boots will be a stun break with evade frame (even of cost of removed dmg and BLAST finisher) I will have right place for my theorycraft builds. But do you really think that they want change it? Many proffesions have many underpowered skills. But they don’t finding how to make them in line, they want op skill. Engi community demand jack of all trade, and we want every utility to be viable, this is our habbits(thanks to kit versatility) .

So, I start thinking, they will not buff, they will tweak so.… if they remove dmg and blast finisher, do you accept change into stun break and 1s evade? Honestly, I like it.

Yea I don’t think the FG needs more stomp and ress capability. It rather needs abilities ouside of this area.

For example, being able to use it on alive allies to boost their dps for 15s or something like that. It’s half of a mechanic right now.

Wait, you mean if I use Fun gyro on alive ally, that can increase his dmg for the gyro duration? This is really good idea! I wish to anet read this and see what they will tell on this :-)

I was one of them, who definetly was want only soloQ and not premades. Now I know that this one was a mistake. I am ok with looses, I am not bad player (hanging in top 250) but I hate whispering how other player “carry” me. My mate and me have different strategy then others, and we really need team coordinate.

So this seasson is step forward finally no doubt, many things are good, many need to introduce, but I am woth you , to allow next seasson 5 man group. Only for test. We can loose 1 seasson at worst scenario. I vote team ranked pvp.

Rocket boots can be paired well with smoje fields. Look at wiki – the blast finisher have delay so if you dmg foe, the blast finisher will occur 1/4 sec after so you can use smoke fields

Dmg is no need there thats true. But switch low dmg for cc/boon etc will be a bit big buff.

Rocket boots have decent TB skill for condi builds, so I think (sorry) that no reworking/tweaking/buffing will come. It is semi-viable skill but it not have any good synergy. I was try to use many condi builds in pvp/wvw and on each of this build was rocket boots(smoke bomb, rocket boots to enemy, rocket kick) . It is not used much because this utility, but because his synergy.

Hi nothelseth,
Scrapper power hammy plat t2/3.
My question to repair myself if am I wrong: I was have game, where I rush far and engage another scrappy. After around half minute I cap point (thanks blasty gyro) and still dueling with scrappy. Then from nowhere, our revenant come to " help me"… enemy engi run away and he chasing him. I was stay on point (enemy thief is somewhere near) then our rev run to me, with angry full hp scrapper in tornado and thief finish him. My thief fast help me and we secure point, BUT this rev send me many pms how bad I am and other rude words(something that I not heal him, support him) is that really nessesary for engi to be a healer or support? Sneaky on CD and thief use shadowstep stomp. So it was my fail that he die? This happen to me more times. And I dont know ehat more i must doo. I ress around 4 times ppl per game, removing condis on CD from them but healing i didn’t expect.

Current PvP meta is too spammy - It's anoying

Engi: Invulnerability and block spam, waaaaay too much damage for its survivability; way too many automatic invulnerabilities.

The only “automatic invulnerability” engineer has is in Self-Regulating Defenses, a trait that engineers have had since launch, and one many of us love to hate because it kills us to condi damage just as often as it saves us from power damage.

The only difference to how this trait has always worked is that they changed the way HGH works so that it now extends the duration of Elixir S from 3 seconds to 4. A pretty big buff no doubt, but with a 60 second cooldown it’s hardly “too many,” and we used to have more invulnerability back when we ran Elixir S as a utility skill.

As for your “shield spam,” Shock Shield has the same cooldown as the Tool Kit’s Gear Shield does, so the amount of blocks an Inventions/Alchemy/Scrapper build has with the hammer isn’t really any different from how many block the FT/TK condi build has historically had (which now has less since they nerfed Gear Shield, actually).

So just to recap: engineer has pretty much the same amount of invuln it always has (arguably less), and pretty much the same block spam we’ve had (with the core build having less now than it used to).

The primary differences that Scrapper brings to the table is Rapid Regeneration and Rocket Charge, and unlike Gear Shield, Shock Shield actually does damage.

I agree that PvP builds are much spammier now than they used to be, but I think your criticism should at least be in the right place, and engineer is hardly in a state where it should be complained about in any remote sense unless it’s in response to the carpal tunnel symptoms that get induced when playing the condi build in raids.

My point is not that the Scrapper is too spammy though. My point is that the meta is too spammy, too filled with automatic effects, automatic traits, too many procs, too many instant cast skills/effects.

The Scrapper has a few of these issues although I admit he is not the worst offender (looking at you Mesmer, thief, DH, Necro and Ele). The issue is that the Scrapper also contributes to this problem.

If it was only one class to have these spammy, automatic effects then it would be bad enough. But almost every single class has this spammy gameplay and you get them together on a match, it adds up and the problem gets worse and worse.

Do you guys enjoy playing on a meta that is so full of spammy classes, filled with automatic effects and traits and procs?
I would argue that these non-player controled effects and overal spammy skills make PVP less enjoyable to play and even less enjoyable to watch.

Look I totally hate passive effects/procs. It make game easier yea! But boring!! Anet should experiment with trait rework. For example – scrapper have trait, where you gain 3sec quickness/10sec if you have 10+might. This is not bad passive model – its a harder to reach 10 might then only make a critical hit.

I wish to my traits significantly upgrade my utilities, weapon skills. Passives like auto-godmode, auto-health saver must be gone.

1) Is it possible to carry games
- yes it is. I climb from gold to t2 plat duoque scrapper + condi thief with pretty hard winstreaks(enemy mobility was bad until we reach plat) Now my friend learning d/p thief – carry plat is impossible and we must set up our classes to builds, where they are strongest.

2) is it possible to climb out of gold reliably if you’re consistently the best player on both teams
- you don’t know who is best in your or enemy team. At nifhel we hold 60% of time only 1 point. But my friend condi thief killing svanir and chieftan frequently. So, i ress many ppl, stomp enemy and fight for decap , but our game was winned thanks for our thief.… it’s not about your personall skill level, but team coordination. If you are best player in gold, lead your team to win.

3) why wont you guys just get good instead of spending your time whining here? Maybe you would have climbed out of gold if you did.
- thats a question, how you can get good? I want know how to play chrono at good level, but over 60+ games I still play garbage. (Yea and I try watch your guide videos,but I am still confused)

- not everyone can be legendary. I think that my placement really near to top 250 is equall to my skill level.
I have few friends, who is really good with their classes, but if you don’t have plan how outsmart your enemy – stay in gold.

Nope sorry, but I usually loose first fights, and my 70% of wins is comeback. Meaby ppl in gold or lower just resign to play. But in P2 its not happen and it’s really exciting moments.

Warrior is strong? Oh good news! Seriously – facing warr is now more enjoyable.… I am ok with his block – I use unblock dmg skill. I am ok with his endure pain – time to drink coffe in middle of duel. I am ok with his resistance (who this seasson kitten using condi? Chrono? With AA boonstrip? Lolz)

I expect more discuss about toon down some DH blocks and give them something equal for this, or give some unblock skills to other classes.… but seriously warr?

Settings → snap ground target

You target your enemy and if he is in your range, you will throw all ground targets to him (sadly, toss elixirs, etc too)

Hi,
I have question, it’s a big issue if my chrono build make 5k less dps then basic chrono dps?

I have full commy gear with dura runes for some passive protect share (12sec/20sec cd). Maded for tanking. (Vg, gorse, xera.. ). I have great ressults at VG (really safe tank – only aroung 5k lower dps)

Its really problem if I have lower dps? Never had problem at no updraft gorseval 9ppl so? :-)

That’s what I have been hoping for last couple of years but ppl complain queue time might be too long. While 1-2mins longer is not really an issue for me.

For me too. Why don’t try it? :-) in next seasson make this experiment. Or only think about this. I must say that devs doing really good work. If they keep up with upgrading pvp, listen community feedbacks, then they can make really great pvp format.

I don’t mean to do what we want, only pay attention what community want. Make soloq and teamq – 2 separated pvp formats should be interesting change. Nobody tell you if this is step forward or back – you will know it after community feedback.

SoloQ should be separate from teamQ.
In teamQ – avalible teams should be only 2,3,and 5.
In soloQ- avalible only without party with no class stack(max can be 2 for only 1 profession in team)

I am more solo player, but honestly I miss some team play. If you make 2 leaderboards for solo and team, then you meaby satisfy more players.

It’s only idea. Btw: This seasson isn’t bad, but not great. You can push spvp at better level, gl

Well, just try to outnumber your enemy as much as you can. Scrapper is good far spotter. You should never loose any 1v1. Difference between us and tempest is, that we can kill intruder. I don’t tell my trics, but you are able to decap point with tempest in 30sec solo.

For example: your druid has 1v2 on far. So you run on far, get ready your fun gyro (often you arrive to rezz your mate) then fight continue.

Try to be in heavy fights as much as you can.

I think it would be easier for the asura racial skill radiation field to be an engineer skill, and we could take out one of the gadgets to replace it with something else.

This can be, but its not “team friendly” . This suggestion is to improove condi damage taken.

For now its 25% thanks to vulnerability. Engi can add another ~5%. Why engi? Because engi was for a long time be marked like a master of condi dmg. And we don’t have decent support to be "wanted"for another classes.

Superspeed is not enough, it is useless in pve. Fun gyro is amazing for pvp, in pve ugh.… so what we bring in pve into table? Nothing usefull. So anet should look at engi.

I don’t think we need more condi damage. I’d like to see Backpack Regen having regen increased.

This can lead into more sustain (for scrapper..) and it can be out of control. Increase base regen by 1-50 is still useless. For pve you really doesn’t need sustain because often you see model “bad dodge – > downed” . In pvp if backpack regen can offer same sustain like rapid regen, then core engi can be meaby more viable, but scrapper totaly OP (imagine of toolkit scrapper bunker..)

My suggestion is something to make engi like: " Hey, we have engi, he bring us this " . In pve content, I feel that I am useless. Yea engi shiny in small things like heavy blind aoe, but other things make other proffesions better. Slick shoes was good concept why you likely see engi on gorseval, or open world boss with big cc bar (vinetooth AB). Yea it was OP, but now we had nothing.

Backpack Regenerator (Alchemy trait line) will be replaced by Deadly Toxicity

Deadly Toxicity: if you apply poison on opponent, he will be vulnerable against conditions. (For every condi from every player)

Suggestion #1: stack treshold: 2-3 poison condi on enemy (increaed 7% condition damage taken) will apply deadly toxicity for 5-10sec.
-this can increase demand on use of poison dar volley, poison gas shell. Poison stacks can be higher to prevent to be OP.

Suggestion #2: each stack of poison provide +2% condition damage taken (max 6%)
-nothing change in gameplay

Suggestion #3: -> your suggestions, how to make engi more team friendly and demand.

- this trait must be only in alchemy trait so you can choose now to be more selfish with quality of life or more team based.
-post here how much you use backpack regenerator. Or other less used traits.
-this is only some dmg offer suggestion. If you will have some, put some simply, I think that devs are really not interested about hard mechanic.

Last “pip” seassons I was wish to be able only soloQ. With this system, I hardly wish 5 player teams. I stuck in platinum and can’t push forward, or back.

One game I feel that opponents are awesome. They use brain, they know how to play their class – > but my 2-3 team mates chasing ele across map..
Next game I feel that opponents are newbies and I go to make coffe and return to win match…

Meaby, Meaby open option to make soloQ skill rating, and team skill rating. And solo, will be only solo – not duoQ. – my idea, don’t hate me for this

Now: 1722 rating
Win loss: can’t remember, around 70%win (~20games)
Marauder scrapper

First 10 games was absolute arcade! My team mates and opponent was only better AI npcs.… I was make 6:4 but now its better and better. Now I was on heavy winstrake and climbing up very fast. Matches are now quick, and close – every win is not for free.

This seasson is really enjoyable, leader board for friends and guild mates are awesome – I don’t want to reach top 250… I only want beat my friends (it’s fun between us).

Classes are balanced, mmr looks working, rewards are ok, GJ. Make title from 251-1000 rank and I will not need more

DH Traps need balancing

From scrapper perspective: DH is Ok. I can reflect him, I can dmg him trough blocks.… recently I was solo 2x average DH’s. Let them be, their dmg and surbivability is balanced. Meaby their port should have reduced range but I can live with this.

I was made only few games for now, but it looks like most balanced seasson for me.

5 second CD passive that is kittened broken – protection from alchemy build

12 second cd burst that deals 15k and isn’t half of it’s dmg kit – blowtorch
spammable invis – sneak gyro
can run travelers rune and it matchups up perfectly with smoldering
Craploads of team utility
I can even 1v1 condi mesmers.

I bet on p/p condi scrapper. HT/FT/TK/Sneaky gyro.

Make it a chain skill.
The first part works like now, except that the puddles knock down only moving enemies.
Pressing the skill again ignites the oil; after a short amount of time (in which the puddles aren’t slippery anymore, so that by reacting well an enemy can escape unharmed) the oil puddles burst into fiery flames that persist for a few seconds, damaging the enemies nearby.

Would also be thankful if anyone could share a Rifle Build he had success with 1v1 / roaming in Wvw.

I feel like i am in a huge disadvantage vs nearly every other profession that is running around.

The moment i switch to hammer or go condi-P/P i have much better chances.

I tried many different traitline combinations but it feels useless.
When you dont take FT eg, you do even have problems killing guards in camps in a reasonable time.

ok, if you run with bunker down and exlixer gun und pull them into a choke its quite fine, but somehow still feels very unrewarding compared to the effort and whan you can do with other builds / professions

i feel somehow sad about thtat, just finished the Legendary Rifle and now i feel like i kitten myself when playing a rifle build.

- use rifle toolbelt skill on CD (with attack too) good synergy with static discharge open option for quick burst dmg
- On rifle your biggest friends are net shot and overcharge shot. However in this projectile hate meta you should look at reflects and stability on oponent.
- Use jump shot on oponent (which will be buffed in 3hours) to jump into opponent, use net shot and acid bomb.
-you can use magnet on tool kit to pull foe to you, then net shot and acid bomb. Remember, magnet is unblockable, same as acid bomb and tool kit skill 2. Use this skills to opponents which try blocking.
- deploy rifle turret , use healing turret burst heal with riffle turret detonate for add heal(with quick fingers you can try acid bomb too for even more heal)
-Use elixir X on high % health but dont always drink in start of fight. Good synergy is cc opponent – > burst him some HP → dink elixir X →enjoy perma stabil. (against thieves I often drink at start seriously..)

You can play what you want. This is my personal build for open world chill.
-perma 25 might stack
-perma fury
-perma retal
-perma swift
-perma regen
-80-100% prot uptime
-90% quickness uptime (if you swap blat gyro for elixir U)
-60-100% stability uptime
-high defense, vitality, pretty good damage (60% of squishy dps condi build-tested) not heavy kit swap

As you can see, engi have many oportunities. I sometimes use this build in wvw with decent ressults. For raid enviroment , power bomber build offer high dps (33-34k myself) with easy rotation.

So try it with exo gear, and tell us if you like it :-)

Edit: Power engineer is great for casual pve . Explosives, firearms and tools traits with static discharge and suprise shot and nade barrage offer you one of the biggest burst dmg in the game. So you can run and one shot mobs. Gl+hf

But this doesn’t mean that we are not viable :-) elementalist is pretty same like we are. We don’t have dps meter, but where is your proof that he roll his 40k dps on boss? I always see good eles downed, running around, try to keep alive (yea I must run with pugs) and me still smashing boss with bombs.

Engi is more complex and harder to play. If ele not switch attuments and only spam lava font on staff, then he will be more better then engi swapping 2 kits + weapon.

And we are support. Who can hold all spirits on gorseval? Blind aoe mobs on sabetha or slubling on sloth. Cc deal with mortars on trio, superspeed+backup reflect on mathias… engi is good quality of life for raid team, and have very compared dps like ele

And did you test it? Shocking speed in raids can’t stand. Did you see how many fields are under boss? Final salvo is better option for superspeed and blasty gyro toolbelt too – safe options. You can use sneaky gyro only for final salvo.

25% daze duration doesn’t matter. If I count how many cc I put on break bar, it always breaked down before I finish my cc rotation. Weaknes and vuln is useless because many classes have it on AA or some skill so boss have this condis permanently.

Inversion enzyme I sometimes use on slothy if our guild teaching newbies. Med kit is still useless until engi take druid spot (they will take you for dps spot -support is ps warr, chrono, and druid) . These specs are offensive support which EG and MK not. (If med kit skills will be aoe, there will be discussable if can be viable)

You have good thinking, you want something what engi should offer (and other classes too) but game doesn’t have it. This build meaby can be usable at WvW.

For raids , engi is dps. There was many kind of builds, one build was taking as much dmg as possible and then heal self + via trait teamates too, or water blasting healer.… if you looking for build, where is rifle, try bomber build (our highest dps build) brainless spamming AA bombs and using Toolbelt skills on cd. Around 33k dps.

I try run this build. I have some succes with this. I was just try only few games, and in every match it was shiny. Need more time to find better and skilled opponents.

-using nades for condi presure (each nade have chance for: burning/criple/vuln/bleed so hard to clean)
-elixirs (mortat 5 too) remove condition-toss elixir too, so some condi cleaning
-dodges seems to be extremely important. I face against thief and dodge too early – death. Then I timing my dodge and he was annihilated.
-no cc only with conditions

I will see how this build work in next games. Still my hardest counters are DH/warrior and scrappers.

Engi is jack of all trades and he should offer condi dps and power dps. Big effort and still nobody want him in raids. Engis like me changing traits specialy for each boss, gear, consumables.… we putting heavy effort to get in raids-and we are in " meta " so… somebody should be happy if he can join with his class – not choosen build..

Pve:
-jack of all trades-ready for every situation (you can solo many champions/events etc without huge dps loss)
-high burst dmg(suprise shot toolbelt from riffle turet + static discharge from tools trait line)
-perma swift
-combination of meele and range
-you can stealth (cannot remember how long, but its almost perma) to skip fights
-overall high dps in raids, in open world you can buff yourself

Pvp:
-skilled engi can be viable without elite spec (condi/and meaby power)
-as scrapper you are balanced, but me like core engi , I will hate you

Overall engi is high effort medium reward. This is cost for versatility… If you don’t like complex gameplay-change class

Main and most used in pvp: SD vanilla engi power rifle
Counters: almost against each class balanced, only one problem is SCRAPPER.
-too much reflects, heavy sustain, no window to cancel important ability, counter my power (with bulky gyro, block, rocket charge) and condi advantage (criple/immobilize/poison with autocondi clean, EG, purgy gyro). I cant find in 1v1 a second to take a breath and send him another burst.

My opinion. I can make great fight against each class where one mistake is important. But scrappy is over my abilities and skill .

Times change. After we get kicked with heavy turrets nerf, I was stop eating my rolls if I was in pvp. After elixir infuse bombs dismiss, I was stop drinking coffee… But after elite spec introduce… I was must switch on my display.

If you love engineer, you always be good, because we have always some trick in our pockets. It’s impossible to balance this class and it’s impossible to destroy it. The hole between great engi and bad is really big. Scrapper only try to make a bridge over this hole.

Best class in right (carpal tunel) hands, worst class in slow hands.
