For my part, I stopped playing this game because living content is not worth an expansion. I got really tired of collecting minis and skins that I don’t give a rat’s kitten about every two weeks. Living content is everything Anet said their game won’t be, grinding for crap over and over.
I feel you, I live in Canada and enjoy a very smooth connection and even I had frustrating lag while doing jumping to get crystals, think I died about 20 times because of lag only…
Agreed, yesterday I nearly punched my screen while trying to get a crystal because or this issue.
I can’t confirm but, yesterday I didn’t remember having 16k HP so maybe.
I wanted something different than a GS and auto attacking mobs to death, being a fan of the mace as a weapon I put a lot of thought into making a build with it while still being able to kill stuff pretty fast.
I don’t usually post builds here because I know 3/4 of the comments will be negative but what ever use it if you want if not don’t.
The Build (UPDATED)
Good healing, very decent dps, tested in dungeons and it works wonders. The mace is not very mobile but mace/torch will keep you of auto attack and that is a plus for me.
Input and improvements are welcomed.
Updated build – Purging Flames for regular pve and I feel like AH is not worth the investment compared to 10 points in virtues for a buffed Wall Of Reflection for dungeons.

God are those skins ugly, thank the lord I am making tons of cash with this event or I would have been disapointed.
This has probably already been stated but here goes, I have 2 interface ideas that would make it more enjoyable. First is combining the inventory bags with the character pannel because We don’t need 2 pannels for the same thing. Secondly, I would love if you guys could add near the skillbar 2 or 3 food quick casting squares.
Thanks for reading.

I made about 45 gold in under one hour selling those ugly wings and chest, while people are fighting over lousy skins, I am making monster profit.
The solution doesn’t work, some times I can auto attack with the axe 45 times the same mob and half my minions still stand there taking a coffee break and playing cards.
I don’t care what the new condition could be, it should start doing massive damage like burn as soon as it is applied and not like bleeding where it take 10 minutes to become noticable. It should also be something that not all classes can have so that when you apply it it’s not already at cap and does practicaly nothing.
My suggestion would be to make staff 1 the same kinf of attck as the focus Reaper’s Touch meaning, staff auto attack would be a fast scythe ta launches and bounces between mobs.
Like your idea, retreat was simply another way to say defend.
Axe auto attack is supposed to be the best trigger to make minions attack, oddly some times i can auto attack about 4 times and minions still sit around me taking a coffee break.
In my opinion my fix would still work better than a random attack triggering minions.
F2 – Minions attack
F3 – Minions retreat
Wow ! Super awesome overkill fix, no random aggro no minions staying like kitten in aoe attacks and no minions attacking on some skills yes and some with a delay. Was it that hard Anet??
F2 and F3 would remain grayed out when you don’t use minions.
OH, best of all this way minions wouldn’t go full kitten and try to kill a mesmer clone.
Still 40 seconds on a 4 second well that you can dodge or walk out of in 1 second yeah… On the other hand, I must admit we have one of the best healing skill but, it’s just not enough to compensate.
Is it me or are the cooldowns on necro really bad, except some very rare skills. I don’t see the point in using the active effect on signets with that big of a cooldown. Wells are not bad bad but, 4 seconds for a 40 to 60 seconds cooldown…. And the worst of all, the staff…. Kinda sucks being left on auto attack while the guy next to you spams his skills about 40 times before that signet or ours recharges.
I am not playing my engi anymore but, while I was on that character I always used a macro on my naga for grenades 1 to make it auto attack, never got any warning or what ever.
Know that feel.
I always tend to get angry at flaws like the elixier U bug or skills going on CD and/or not activating and cramps in my hand due to grenade spamming ect…
Then I see how the classes which-shall-not-be-named do everything much easier.
Seriously, input should be somewhat equal to output.
If I push 3 buttons in 2 second it should have a certain impact. At least more impact than 1 button every 8 seconds (And yes you can get me raging about that one. No mercy to THE-class-who-shall-not-be-named!)
Then I rage-log to my guardian or mesmer.
And THEN after approximately 30minutes I´m bored to my skull or almost asleep so I log on to my engineer again O_O
I must be a masochist or something but the strange design of the engineer (not the bugs like elixier U and missthrower OR serious design flaws) is what keeps me playing. And you mention bugs and design flaws in one breath so it´s kind of hard to make a rational conversation without going offtopic or too much into certain topics like poison volley :/ I´m not even sure if MY post is about the topic you intended to talk about o.o
Design flaws: self-cc, nades to a certain degree (because hand is ouchie after using them too much)
Bugs: Missthrower, Elixir UAnd yep… In my opinion legendaries are wasted on engineers… didnt want them anyways! ;( sniff cry
Finally someone who understands my point… I’ts not normal I can play my guardian in orr while reading a book and building a card castle and then when I go out with my engi it’s continually close call situations.
In any case, I am kind of tired of the attention this skill is getting in this topic where I didn’t write it to complain on a single skill. I am leaving my engineer on the side for now, will probably get back to it when Anet starts to care about it.
I know that trick, and it’s not logic to me that you have to do that for the skill to work better, kind of like the FT when you aren’t in a correct angle and start missing all you FJ hits.

Not really because as I recall, I said “what killed it for me” thus not saying the class is aweful or broken or what ever you want.
I really enjoyed this class for the past 400h I droped on it, there is no learn to play issue because I know what that skill is supposed to do but, I just feel it’s flawed. It could be good for zerg balls In wvv but this game doesn’t revolve around only that. Like I said, I had my share of smiles with this class but it’s just fading away more and more. I love steampunk themed characters and this class was pure genius but, it has crashes at some point and became everything except that
I’m done, I have defended the engineer for far to long but yesterday was the nail in the coffin. I am very tired of putting up with the bad design choices Anet have made with this class, why does my rifle make me fall on my butt, why does poison volley miss half the shots, why does my FT start missing when I starts running a round a mob…
I’m tired of destroying my hand with grenades, I have to aim and predict the fall so much with that kit that if feels like I’m playing battlefield. Love if how elexir U goes on a cooldown without giving quickness…. I can go on forever but since I am on my brake at work I will stop about here.
Oh yeah, my last 2 cents, why would I spend all year getting the predator when I spend more than half my game time in a kit and never see it?
By the way, before you all start ramming my face trough a wall, I never said that the engineer wasn’t viable or bad or what ever, I am just talking about some designs with this class that killed it for me.
Uh, what happened yesterday?
Nothing much except that I got tired of this class being so tedious compared to anything else on my roster.
Forestnator, you sir have done the total contrary of what I said in the last phrase of the original post.
By the way, I stated the whole design of the engineer and this topic has been going on about poison dart volley….
(edited by Daxxter.8920)
Blunderbuss = 400 (mid range)
Poison dart volley = 900…
I am sort y but if you call 900 range a mid/close skill, I call that bad design.
I see the ranger’s poison volley more as an intended aoe where the engineer feels more like I’m to kitten to aim. You know that when you fire the ranger’s volley you will get a cone effect, the engineer seems more like a random let me hit a bit here a bit there oh sorry I missed half the targets….. And for the close range, no just no, something that can hit that far isn’t supposed to be designed for close range.

Tanks for posting this build, it feels much more engaging than playing my boring guardian with a GS. I can confirm that it works very well and it keeps you alive with no extra effort plus, it’s very fun to play.
If you take the bomb kit you have to trait in explosives, the healing on bombs is not worth it at all.
If I may add, 80% of the legendary weapons are so freaking girly, look at the Quip… A freaking pistol that shoots bubbles, what the hell is that, the chaos gun looks like a desert eagle and then you got the quip that look like a Halloween hair dryer.
Well that sucks, it would have helped pistols a lot.
I have a quick question on the explosion effect on pistol. Since it explodes at the end of the shot, I was wondering if it is affected by the trait which makes explosions do more damage?
I use P/P HGH except when stuff gets close to me I switch for bomb kit because I flee grenades like the plague, hate it so much. Bombs hit strong, can keep you alive with lots of conditions (specially the blind field).
I think it just gets to me because I come here with a smile and telling my self each day will bring a ton of new info from players on how to improve playing this wonderful class and all I get instead is you went to level 80 and spent all your time and gold for nothing, go roll a warrior and press 2 on GS from lvl 1 to 80.
I posted this in the engineer forum cause that’s what I main but what I wanted to actually say is that pretty much any profession forum you go on you see a lot of post about how bad the class is, it sucks in pvp or it sucks really hard in dungeons and pve. It seems like Anet thinks the game is perfect and 90% of this forum thinks the game is broken. Where is the middle line ?
I have my engineer at level 80 and it has gotten some “bad nerfs” so I decide to maybe try another class. Before anything, I go look at thieves forums and see about 20 post on how thieves got some nerfs and people crying all over it so I decide to go check the necromancer forums… Well turns out pretty much the same, so I go check the warrior forum to find the same pattern. Please tell me, if every profession forum has people saying how bad the class is now, should Anet create a class called God delete all the other classes and get only 1 skill which insta kills everybody in front of you. My point with this is that reading the forums past the 26th patch, every class is broken and not viable any more. I don’t know what to think any more and the more I go on the forums the more it depresses me and makes me want to play something else…. Are engineers that bad or are they just not played how they are supposed to.

Welswift, I agree with you 100% play what you like and build around it. The thing is tho, I haven’t been able do build outside of FT and nades and still be as useful in every aspect of the game and that pains me because I hate grenades like the plague.
The best thing about this class is that it uses my razer naga at it’s full potential with pets. Having the F1 to F4 buttons on my mouse is a joke.
Poison is a really strong condition and using poison volley even more would be great and concussion shot at 20 seconds cooldown is beast.
My point was that the trapper build is one of the most effective for the ranger at the moment but at the same time, if you spec in traps you lose bow dps which is already lacking.
I never said anything about moving the trap traits either, I simply want them to move quick draw in the first tier of the skirmishing tree.
Is it only me or the bow skill 1 of the warrior should have been something that the ranger had. Firing 2 arrows at the rate the longbow fires would do it just fine,
Never have I stated the contrary but, that wasn’t the point of this post..
One thing about the ranger that I didn’t see anybody talk about is the fact that quick draw is so far in the skirmishing tree that if I want to spec in a trap build you can forget about getting that one. Every class I tried and built had no problem reducing cooldowns on my main weapon skills while keeping a good synergy with a build type and then…. the ranger.
A back mounted cannon that shoots 2h axes that throw spears.
No game I have played had this kind of issue, not even Diablo. No game should actually demand me to make a macro to be able to auto attack a skill so that my hand doesn’t suffer from it. What the community is asking isn’t a way for this class to be OP but, simply to make it have a better harmony and enjoyment while running grenades kit. Why should a direct hit be allowed underwater and not on land, how many times did I end up throwing grenades at my feet because of terrain or awkward dodging while pressing 1.
Any ways, I may be wrong but I stand my point.
Yes we are indeed, in another story this still needs a fix. I do not care how much the grenade kit does well, the bottom line is when it affects your health, this becomes another issue.
Hell at least post a message before creating an engineer saying that this class may affect/break your hardware and cause Carpal tunnel syndrome in prolonged uses.
No they just prefer nerfing the class and eating cake while laughing at me when I break a mouse every month.
Your engineer class should come with insurance to pay my medical bills when my hand will become unusable from the constant press of 1 on the grenade kit. I feel that at this pace, my brand new Naga will die on me in probably 1 more month and I won’t be able to go to work due to my hand being sawed of after my muscles die as well.
You guys need to get your heads out of your kitten and find a solution for this problem because, it affects more than just gameplay. Listen to your players and fix this because it is becoming harmful.
From now on, I will be referring to the engineer as Aquaman.
