It’s been said before, but even just getting the achievement prior to reaching the boss would make this more doable and less painful (i.e. no counter would be necessary).

What I don’t understand here is the original Guild Wars had stuff like the super cool mini roller-beetle that you could win by placing in the overall top 10 of the ‘Roller-Beetle Racing’ mini-game (an event only around for a short period of time each year). This mini could be displayed anywhere and also be sold for a gazillion gold as well.

So why would items earned through the SAB be any different? Only being able to see them in the SAB doesn’t make sense when you take my above example into account.

For the record I never played the Roller-Beetle racing mini-game and I had no problem with those who showed off their (totally awesome) mini-beetles.

The reason all of the above posters used a guide has nothing to do with a counter, it’s your need to have video games be played for you and not willing to invest anytime in learning or doing things for yourself. I don’t have much sympathy that you think you should complete an achievement in absolutely no more then 1 play through.

I say add a counter but put it only in infantile mode and also make entering infantile mode trigger an account wide 24 hour debuff that makes all their characters appear in game in a bonnet and a diaper.

What’s the harm in letting players know whether or not they’ve gotten all the baubles before leaving the zone? Also, there are counters for the secret rooms – so why is a bauble counter any different?

Oh btw – in the original Guild Wars I ran well over 20,000 chests and got GWAMM on multiple characters. And so I’m definitely not afraid at working towards something.

But in this case I really think the game is lacking a key feature that would allow players to get the bauble achievement in a much more reasonable fashion (i.e. go back and get a missing bauble(s) as opposed to redoing the entire zone).

I really hope they decide to add a bauble counter.

While I already have all 3 bauble achievements, I got them using guides so kindly put together by fellow players.

However, with a counter I probably would’ve have scoured each area myself to find them (but without said counter, I really didn’t want to risk going through the whole zone only to find out at the end I missed something with no way to go back and get it.)

Well, OF COURSE the day this becomes active my router has to bomb out and not let me connect to the internet on my gaming pc (QQ).

So I’m wondering, how difficult do you guys think it will be to get all the achievements related to this? Like what are the ones that will be most difficult to obtain?

And is this tougher than the Mad King Clock Tower? Or how does it compare to the Wintersday JP?

A cautionary tale if you’ve never installed a cpu cooler with thermal paste!
==========

Over the weekend I purchased a Cooler Master ‘Hyper N520’ (~35$) and installed it with little issue. However, the instructions were incorrect as the fans were incorrectly blowing air from the back to front; and so I then proceeded to remove the cooler, turn it around, and re-install it (the cooler has fans on the sides).

HOWEVER, upon trying to remove the cooler from the cpu, as the thermal paste created such a tight bond between the cpu and cooler, I actually yanked out the cpu from the motherboard!

And unfortunately, this mortally wounded my cpu as various pins were bent in the process (I tried to straighten them out but one broke off qq).

Basically, before trying to remove the cooler from the cpu, I should have wiggled the cooler ‘parallel’ to the cpu in order to weaken the suction created by the thermal paste (and ofc it didn’t help that the instructions for the cooler were wrong – which is the only reason I had to remove the new cooler in the first place).

Thankfully I just had to buy a new cpu (~125$) in order to get back up and running, but I just wanted to share my tale as a potential warning to others.

Another overclock n00b here

I have an AMD FX-4100 (3.6 ghz) with 20gb Ram. Previously I tried to overclock with the stock fan, but I started having ‘freeze-ups’ and so I reverted to the default settings.

So this really makes a big difference? Like can you describe where you see the biggest improvements? Thanks!

'Hop Skip and Jump' Achievement?

Day Trooper.3605

I am interested in this achievement too, but one question, how are you able to solo it? Not to mention aren’t fractals random? Are you popping in and out of the ones they give you till you get to uncategorized?

Also what profession are you (I have one of each, maybe that might help me decide who to take this challenge on).

First off – yes I did pop in and out until I got the right fractal. Second, I used my Mesmer (Greatsword/Staff weaponset, full exotic armor/accessories).

The most tricky parts are getting up those electric stairs cleanly (as getting down’d there apparently negates the achievement?) and then taking on all 4 golems at once at the very end.

Fyi -the prison room early on with the 3 champs and vet isn’t actually that bad provided you keep moving around and take out the vet first and then focus on the Charr Shaman (and ofc always have clones up). Also, despite my not attacking the rabbit at all, my clones basically killed it for me as it doesn’t have too much health.

To sum up, while doable it does require patience (it took me around an hour?) as killing the champs is a pretty slow process; and then if you die later on (like at those unforgiving stairs) it can be quite frustrating as well.

I solo’d this a couple days ago and noted there were more like 9 or 10 chickens to kill.

Also, as soon as I killed the last chicken I got the achievement (i.e. don’t need to first get the chest).

Note: On level 1 difficulty this is pretty easy to do solo as you’ll have 4 or 5 veteran Charr npc helpers. I couldn’t kill the boss, but getting the achievement was no issue (I mention this in case you have trouble finding 4 others to help kill the chickens).

'Hop Skip and Jump' Achievement?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

AFAIK you need to make it to the top and beat the golems. It doesn’t matter if your party is dying. Stability and a ranged weapon help a lot.

I can now verify this is correct as I just solo’d it again and was not awarded the achievement until after I killed the last golem (right as the cutscene began).

The one thing I don’t know is whether or not you can’t go down at the electric-stairs though as I (barely) made it through that part without going down.

'Hop Skip and Jump' Achievement?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

In my experience you won’t get the achievement if you fall at all (Teleporting and getting downed) – ALSO however, I’m quite certain that the stairs where you have to get to the top without hitting one of the energy barriers also counts as a fall.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know if you just need to make it to the top, or do you also need to beat the golems?

And does the whole party need to make it to the top without dying, or just yourself?

'Hop Skip and Jump' Achievement?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

According to the wiki:

“Hop, Skip, and Jump is an Explorer achievement that you can obtain by completing the Uncategorized Fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists without falling and being defeated. Falling does not impact the achievement unless you are defeated. Some players have reported that the achievement is only updated, if the entire party succeeds in the challenge.”

Earlier today I solo’d this fractal on level 1; and while I did go in the downed state a couple times, I never died. However despite this I was not awarded the achievement.

Can anyone explain how this works (or perhaps it’s bugged?)

Agreed. Upgrading your “Ram”, will do wonders for your game quality. And, oddly enough, the performance gain will far outweigh the price you pay.

What kind of performance increases are we talking about? Like what kind of issues will be fixed?

Namely – will fps or ‘choppiness’ improve noticeably?

I also only have 4gb of Ram but am hesitant to get 4 more as I’ve heard claims like this in the past – but after adding more Ram I didn’t notice any difference…

^The problem ofc with switching to another server is paying the gems to make the transfer. And in your example you’d need to pay the transfer fee twice in order to go to another server and then come back to the original one.

Assuming you don’t want to pay the transfer fees and you don’t have friends readily available to help take the needed points (which can be nigh impossible on some maps even with help), then you just have to keep checking for whenever those points free up or you ultimately switch to side of the map with those needed points.

I’m looking to upgrade my system. Currently I get 40-50 fps out in the world (excluding LA and WvW battles ofc) on medium settings.

Regarding monitors, is it true that a 60hz monitor can only display 60 fps?

If so, what hz should I go for? I’ve seen some online at 120hz, but then I see peeps here mentioning 200hz?!?

So I’m just a little confused and was wondering what the deal is here.

Also, if I did have a120 or 200 hz monitor – what would be some good specs for a system to properly utilize this better monitor?

Many thanks!

World Map Completion/WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

I am in complete agreement that something needs to be done to make mapping WvWvW more feasible for those who aren’t fortunate enough to be on a dominant WvWvW server. Why? Basically due to the same reason others have stated above that it’s basically impossible to breach all green keeps/towers on some servers (e.g. I’m on Devona’s Rest and I’ve yet to see us get into the main Ehmry Bay keep).

Fyi – I already have WvWvW completely mapped on 3 characters, but I was able to do so while still being able to transfer servers. Now as others have said, it’s very difficult to map green keeps/towers if your server just doesn’t have the manpower to overtake them. Sure you can pay to transfer, but why should you be penalized while someone else who is lucky enough to already be on a dominant WvWwW server is not?

For those unhappy with Treaharne

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

I guess I’m in the minority, but I didn’t have any problems with Trahearne:

  • How does us helping Trahearne equate to him ‘stealing’ our personal story? It’s not like once the pact is formed we’re just watching him do missions.
  • When he asks us to feel out the other pact leaders about their concerns regarding his leadership abilities, what’s wrong here? I would imagine that each group would most certainly be wary about putting the hopes of Tyria into the hands of an untested military leader – and that Trahearne would also have doubts about whether or not he could really be that leader Tyria so desperately needs (no pressure right?).
  • On his voice, again I didn’t have any issues with it as it seemed very ‘Sylvari-like’ to me.

Does anyone else feel this way?

‘And do you really think they have first balanced classes and then added heavy armor without any thought’?

Whether or not they put thought into it is irrelevant provided there is a balancing issue present.

Perhaps I should have asked – from those that have played heavy armor and other classes – are Warriors/Guardians just ‘that much better’ due to their heavy armor?

Only Warrs and Guards? Heavy armor thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Day Trooper.3605

Day Trooper.3605

From the beginning of Guild Wars 2, I’ve loved the lack of a trinity and that all classes can basically ‘be their own tanks’. However, with this being the case, wouldn’t Warriors and Guardians have a pretty big inherent advantage since they are the only classes which may use heavy armor?

Until recently I didn’t see this as a problem with party formation requests. However, on GW2LFG.com now I’m seeing for (at least) Citadel of Flame speed runs that some groups only want Warriors and Guardians due to their heavy armor/increased survivability.

Sure, you can say ‘just go Warrior or Guardian’ – but if this trend continues then a clear balancing issue is present that ANet will need to address.

What do others think about this?

I saw someone mention that sliding along the end-present box wall vs jumping into it made a difference, so I just tried this and WAS able collect my prize 9/9 times.

So until ANet fixes the ‘sliding along box wall’ issue, just jump into the box and you should be ok.
