If I had a billion…. Hmmm. I’d spend $1k on gem cards, that’s about it GW2 related. I honestly wouldn’t invest in something I had no say or financial benefit from. We can’t even directly make request as it is.
I’d create several businesses that I’ve always wanted to. Jobs are still needed right? Besides, Anet is already a stable business.
ok, now it happened again from Hills inner wall. I was pulled up in the air and over the edge. This can’t be within design parameters. It makes the wall’s completely useless. If this is designed to be that way, then it’s poorly designed.
It would be nice if it at least showed on the combat log.
Was just pulled off a cliff. So, I’ll admit I’m a bit kitten ed. Though I was standing a substantial amount back fro the edge because my stability was on CD. This is the 2nd time the past week.
The question is, what skill is bugged or been improved to cause this. It really has to be scaled back.
My bad, I got that backwards. Appears the person is going for his map complete.

WTF? Why is EMP guy on SoR server in WvW on JQ bl…
….Because [EMP] is still a JQ guild. Those that left formed another guild….
The lag discussion was NOT of the normal lag we’ve come to ignore. Especially when it’s coupled with mass Dc’ing. There must have been a hardware failure of some type. Hence posting about it.
It sounds like a lower tiered server is just trying to weaken us in T1. Nice try, not happening.
For outmanned, yeah it’s not fun. Experiencing it right now on JQ BL. Sure, having everything taken is a BLAST! <——- not really
Eviator, more like ENviator. He has more post on our matchup than his own.
btw… T1 is still great, TY!
I’m actually appreciating this matchup the longer it continues.
For the stacked convo, it’s Anet whom set’s the parameters for WvW populations. Every server can only comply to them.
JQ certainly needs some players still. Just on Wednesday night about 9pm est. we had outmanned on JQ BL and one of the BL’s at the same time. We’re great on reset for 4 hours then poof back to a pumpkin the rest of the week
I was having packet loss issues 2 weeks ago. I wouldn’t have even noticed with regular web surfing because of buffering and redundancies. With GW2 though, you notice instantly.
I contacted my cable company three times. They actually ended up sending out two crews. One to my home and a road crew. They said they were having back end issues. A friend who lives a block away was having the issues too. But, for good measure I replaced the modem and router anyway.
It’s been working great thus far. That’s until reset in WvW 9 hrs ago. That’s a server issue for certain since it’s not happening in any other portion of the game.
Mass Dc’ing and Lag for JQ in EB too. Just posted on the Tech support forum.
Crossing fingers
As the title shows, Many of us are experiencing Lag and mass DC’ing. Please look into this Anet. TY!!
How does it NOT make sense? It makes perfect sense. What deserves ridicule is having any entire game based around one Dev saying “Risk vs Reward”. Now the whole game meta is highly skewed toward melee being superior. As is the theme the OP stated.
If I were at 1500 range and people started running toward me, I would run away. Thus, how would they catch me to melee? But, being that melee has to be superior, Anet created magical gap closer’ss to nullify the logical benefits of ranged attacks.
This continued on with the NPC’s. They made them invulnerable or have fast auto healing if you are not within an NPC’s reach. Thus, you cannot attack from long range or height advantages.
Our pet’s are rooted to the platforms we are on. They cannot climb down or up. to attack anyone. Again, going against any height or distance advantages the real world has taught us. The list of contrived, anti-ranged, hindrances are quite long.
Melee is superior only because a Dev likes frenetically paced fights. Simple as that! That’s why I complimented Einlanzer first on pointing that out by saying “Rick vs Reward”. Then listed some of the negatives that the “Risk vs Reward” philosophy has brought upon our Bow Rangers.
btw, my SB/LB Ranger wiped a really good GS Warrior last night 1v1. Even after he used GS #5 to retreat, heal, and reengage me several times. It’s annoying but, doable.
Melee is stronger than ranged for all professions because of risk vs. reward.
Nailed it! And, it’s what’s completely breaking lure and RP in the game. Besides the fact that, in reality, it’s completely the opposite. Ranged is ALWAYS preferred to melee.
In PvE/Dungeons, there should be NO invulnerability applied to any NPC because you aren’t “close” enough. If you can get the higher ground or an advantage point, you should win, period.
We need to promote logic and smarter combat in the game more and more.
Sniper > dagger’s every time
(edited by DeWolfe.2174)
Why there are more post like this lately, its that our “Ranged” ability is losing ability. That Jon Sharp continues to promote Melee with each SotG. That Tolkienian’s keep posting on every thread they can that they want sword Rangers.
With all that, how can one NOT expect a push back from those that want range on there Rangers????
…Bow Rangers Unite!
^completely agree. Ageis makes Opening Strike worthless. Rangers are in the unfortunate place of only having sustained builds, not burst builds. So opening strike is next to worthless.
Xsorus, pet’s do need work. The whole class needs work. Please do come up with some ideas. Because the dev’s, I’m sorry to say, are failing us kitten the last patch. The biggest to me is the “shout” build. It’s completely contrived around sPvP. Guard is a stationary utility for sitting on a point. It’s not meant to use on the run. Thus, the shout build was expressly sPvP minded. Which kitten es me off that the dev’s would be so short sighted.
We need pet’s skins/more pet looks. A lot of us play them with vanity in mind. As was mentioned, some of us just love using bears. I love my Snow Owl and Cats. I’m using Spiders with longbow since patch and they give me the willies I’d love to use SotW if they melee’d. It would really be a horror show for the victim to have a huge Jungle Spider leaping at them
For reset tonight, I think I’m going to run my lil Cub (brown bear) again just to see if I can aggro more WvW’ers
^It’s the only reason I joined a group was because I felt bad for them and wanted to help.
I still think there’s an inherent flaw or bug with this dungeon. Early FotM used to have the same thing. You could do 20 dailies in about an hour with pugs. Then hit that one day where it’s just OMG hard and takes over 2 hours. That’s what I was feeling like doing AR. I expected a couple of wipes being a first timer. Though 2 of the group had already done it.
I’m agreeing with the OP that limited time content, especially if it has a story to it, should be based for casual play. The duration available to learn the content should be reciprocal to the difficulty of the content.
I just came onto the boards after facing my first Necro in WvW. “WTF were the Dev’s thinking????” is exactly what I thought. I’m being boiled down in 3-4 seconds. Mind you I’m being hit with other thing but, it’s ridiculously OP.
Better be a new build ASAP to bring this in line. Two months wait is WAY to long to put up with this. WvW will be swarming with Necro’s and Thiefs.
There is no reason to encourage being at maxed range for a ranger. The reward is minimal especially since one of the most important longbow skills does not have max range.
….. I want to use MAX range on my Ranger. Also, most important skill to you, might not really to be important to others. Everything you are saying is sPvP related. Which is still a SMALL percentage of the player base. IF you want a “short” Long Bow, then ask for a sPvP Bow, please?
My biggest redesign idea is, fix the “obstruction” on walls issues first. Just spent the past 3 hours in WvW with my LB, working great for me otherwise.
WHOA! I’m reading further down the list. NO WAY should they removed Rapid Fire. GG, you people aren’t using it right……
(edited by DeWolfe.2174)
I’m quite curious how it’s working for you? Before anyone comments though, what area of the game are you using this build in? Is it for Pve, sPvP, and/or WvW? We can go from there.
Please don’t forget to put your food’s in there too. Very important.
Portal’s are a whole heck of a lot more fun than most JP’s. I’ve never done a JP and thought, "Wow what an awesome experience! " And, I’ve spent 4-5 hours at a stretch portaling others in EB.
Very well done post OP! I liked the way this thread was going. Let’s see if we can get it back on track, shall we?
one slip up can mean insta-death, and any amount of lacking coordination will wipe the party.
In this video, they clearly explain what are good challenges versus punishing challenges. This quote above appears to define punishing content. Which, after trying the dungeon about 8 hours ago, I’d agree with that assessment. Much like how the Karka Queen in Southsun is punishing content. Mostly from it’s inconsistency.
So yes, dungeons that punish mistakes and force players to get better are a good, needed thing.
… needed for what exactly? A game can be fun and fulfilling without any challenge at all.
My experience was not a good one. After 2 hours we gave up on it. It was a pick up group. Thus, I’m unaware of background/gear/etc. We hard a hard time on stage 3 of Frizz’s Lab. Again and again we we’re insta-pulled into the center when the field’s turned on. Afterwards, we couldn’t get past stage 3 of the cannon barrage with enough people standing. We tried spread out and circling. It was simply when your time was up, it was up. Like some odd form of RNG.
Funny thing is, I decided on day one that I wasn’t even going to bother with this dungeon. As soon as I heard people saying it was very hard, then looked at the reward, I was turned off. But, I noticed a group needing another in map chat. Thought I might as well lend a hand.
Just left there! We got to the end and have been wiping at the 25% cannon barrage. We’re pretty convinced circles aren’t accurate or our hit box is larger than our feet. It’s like your standing and all’s fine then, boom…. dead. Kinda lame
See, having to have “Special” professions only, is a non starter for me. Besides, we had me as the Warrior, a D/D Ele, 2 Rangers, and a Guardian. Instantly I know the response will be, “You’d have no problem if you replaced the Rangers” Then that’s spell #FAIL on the Dev’s part.
How people find this fun, idk. It’s not fun for us. Repeated wiping isn’t fun for us. I don’t play a game to be stressed, just so I’ll have an adrenaline response. That’s not healthy at all.
Trying it for the first time right now, we’re stuck on Frizz’s Lab. Worst experience in the game for me. No matter how flawless you can be, it’ll bug eventually. One yank into the wall is inst kill. No joy, just suffering.
I’m hoping Arenanet doesn’t get deluded by the few whom are complaining it was too easy. Without the horde of people in there, it would be much much much more difficult. The majority probably wouldn’t even finish it.
So wait, everyone that was able to get on before get’s basically free Gold? While the rest of us get crud??? WoW, that’s SO fair of you Anet. Nice way to be hump players.
Once they set something, it should stay that way until everyone gets it.
Everyone who say’s a puzzle is easy, is a shorty. Completely different experience at full height. This one is too hard to not have it be segmented. Also, drops are insta-kills which I believe I’ve fallen from higher.
This build is AWESOME! I’m now carrying 2 or 3 of everything in my inventory which is a lot of gear to me. Settler’s swap’s out quickly with a blend of Rampager’s/Rabid/Carrion. I stopped precision at 50% and tried to perk up my condition/toughness/vitality values.
I’ll try the spiders tonight. I really don’t like spider’s, ick Though never used poison fields before. Oh… the pain we’ll be bringing tonight.
TY for sharing it. Next up is a full Zerkers when I can afford the rest of the gear.
wait…. the OP’s build isn’t bunker enough?
I see other picked up on birds to, nuts!
If your pet was doing more than you, maybe your build was the issue? Also, the combat log doesn’t count how much condition damage you did overall to enemies. Thus, you might have been doing much more than you think.
Very good list! I just had a thought, what if we had a 6th trait line? With line 5 and 6 being an “Or”. As in you can only apply points into one or the other. Separating between Beast Mastery and a new trait line for those wanting to Run Pet-less? Maybe putting points into Beast Mastery could be the trigger to activate or disable Pet’s completely?
idk… random thought I just had.
1. Do they have any plans to introduce new pet types or pet skins (that maybe share traits with other pets).
4. With the reduction of range on shortbow, can the bleed condition of being behind or beside the target removed? We are the only class that has this requirement on a ranged weapon. Warriors and thieves both can apply their bleeds from any position on a target.
5. Although longbow can be traited for 1500 range, there are numerous PVE encounters where mobs will go invulnerable, rendering this range useless because the ranger is out of range of the mob (even with other targets in range). Harpy fractal is notorious for this. This “feature” renders this trait fairly useless.
Yes, Yes, and Yes! Especially #5 because it’s defies logic and punishes intelligence. As does one more thing, Why can’t our pet jump, climb, or fly to a target? It is the most annoying aspect of being a Ranger because it’s mind-numbingly stupid. Like the above mentioned Harpy Fractals. A ranger has to either Melee or forfeit their pet’s contributions. Same in WvW with towers and walls. I’d like to know when logic will be included back into the game to allow such game play to resume.

Just one: since the technology is there to split skills between game modes, why don’t the sPvP crowd get to enjoy its nerfs for itself?
I’m dead serious too. We are just not playing the same game. The whole 1v1 node bunker meta has no point in regards to random pve, dungeons or wvw. Balancing the skills for it has been and still is a predictable clusterkitten from update to update. It may even bad for the community feeling. Or am i alone in wanting to punch a sPvPer in the face after every ‘balance fix’?
^Indeed! But, an sPvP’er would not be the intend recipient
I have F1 and F3 hot keyed for faster usage. Even with, it’s clunky and the pet is in a constant state of trailing behind. I’ve also found the AI going back to the spot instead of keeping up with my targeting.
It’s also annoying we have to double tap for a shout every other class doesn’t have to deal with.
I didn’t say a condi Longbow should be an “or” as I’d rather have it as an “And” I’m forever irked at Engi’s having 1500 grenade range with conditions. 900 range doesn’t cut it when going after or defending a tower/keep.
Rational debate would be, you are not outputting a lot of damage while stacking 3k worth of Armor. I know as I am at 3k armor. And, it’s great and all until any stacked condi based enemy shows up and melts you far faster than you can dish out any damage.
Also, S/D does have a nice grouping of evades. Everything else is on par with other classes. Which is great for all you Melee types. Now, what about a Condi based Longbow for us, the Archers?
“Turn the pet into something that can be summoned” <— non starter for me
It’s not the professions, it’s the race. Asura are OP!
Little rabbit sized annoyances!
I’ve been trying to use shouts but, it’s really clunky. I think it’s obvious that this build was completely thought of for sPvP only. Considering our shortest cool down shout is “Guard”. Which roots our pet and causes some issues for the AI while running.
Since WvW and PvE requires us to be in motion and mobile, should we be asking the Dev’s for a new shout? I think we really need one, like yesterday.
No, a Ranger to me should be using a bow too. Tolkienian’s are very narrow minded about this. They bring up the D&D again and again. Yet, where did Tolkien’s inspiration come from???
My one Ranger is name Diana. By appearance, she looks like another popular Diana. But, she also represents this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_
But, hey…. those myths are only a couple of thousand years old. Of course, a book someone wrote 75 years ago MUST be the original source of everything, right? Heck, I think he invented paper, ink, even our English language too. It’s all him, right?
Grrrrr….. the problem is, why have a class that needs dividing. I don’t want pet’s to be an ornament or a “big mini”. We also have a Dev that dislikes range. That’s why range sucks across the board compared to melee. Unless you are a thief then by all means, range skills that hit for over 9k, sure… no problem!
:)
(edited by DeWolfe.2174)
I’d like more Bo Staff in my Ele build Just a few melee skills
Hundred Blades will get nerfed 1 year after Heartseeker get’s nerfed.
..or, backstab.. stealth.. etc
I’ve been in sPvP trying to figure out a new build. Since the build I’ve been running was a dual cat Beast Master with a shortbow, it’s obviously taken a big hit. My anger is welling at the absolutely ridiculous cost it’s going to be to respect. All new gear?? What the heck is that Sure, it cost nothing in sPvP but, most of us are in PvE and WvW. Why should we get hit with such cost?
My question is, when they decide to rewrite the rules on a whim, why is it the customer that get’s stuck paying the price? I think if every couple of months they are going to force us to change our gear, they should cover the cost. There should be something, not just “oh well, tough” from Anet. There should at least be an event string or something that gives us 40 laurels. Which is nothing when you consider how many alts we all have.
Anyone else think if they change the rules, they should cover the cost?
^now only if a dev could get THAT through his head. But, then the dev will stomp his foot and say “melee… melee… melee!” And, I swear it’s only for the palm sweat and visual’s for their E-sport dreams.
I’ve always run 20 into power for piercing arrows. Even on my BM condi builds. I’ve also always preferred to run bunker’ish builds. Someone has to bring the water fields, right? Though with every patch, they keep drawing me closer and closer to full zerker. It’s no surprise that this has been a large development issue, to me, since launch. The dev’s seem to be digging that hole deeper and deeper.
I see since Jon posted in here we’re all like, “Hey that’s the guy whole stole our fun!”
It’s very simple, I like Range over melee. I like it because it’s the logical advantage. It’s usually also slower and more focused. Do not delete this completely in this game. I also like pet’s, do not make them irrelevant.
If you wanted to nerf pet’s, how about unleashing them? Allowing them to climb once again? There has to be a give and take…..
Oh, and Thieves are still quite OP in WvW. Work on bringing down the burst, TY. It’s only been mentioned since launch…..
Southsun is dead. How can we say this, because even with the other Living Story events going on, the other world bosses have people at them. The issue is Southsun itself. It’s too unpredictable and too difficult. Those lvl 84’s are over the top…..
Haven’t done it yet but, I can already say that I do not like grueling content. Which to me is having to start it over, again and again. Wasting so much time on content I’ve already experienced and know. There better be a way to skip to where we failed…..
… because WvW players go into the EB JP???? Out of 365 days a year, I do not think it’s asking much to NOT troll people in the EB JP for a few days. And, I have a suspicion there are a lot or players whom think that way.
First, there is no risk in the game. The value being used up is our time. In that time, it’s how we feel about our experience that’s important. Obviously, we want to feel good about it. Earning a shiny at the end doesn’t replace an annoying or agitating experience. That is the biggest problem I see, the agitation. Because the only way the developers appear to be making things take longer, is to make them more annoying.
They need to stop all the thoughts of difficulty and make it fun. As soon as a Dev begins to think of “Risk v Reward” they need to slap themselves. Then start thinking about the experience. Because a good experience becomes the reward.
