Breaking the domination by a single, popular, well populated and coordinated server requires intervention by Anet
Intervention… why would the dev’s intervene with their own creation? They want it to be this way or they would have not created this situation or they’d have done something already to change it. It’s why players are dropping out and not playing as much. Heck, last week was the least I’ve played the game since launch. Didn’t even buy the expansion yet either.
You mean people would rather play for 3rd to get out of t1.
Oh, I’ve advocated for that many times the past 10 or so weeks. Dev’s should feel really bad about how they screwed up the population balance. Players should be having fun fighting each other, not fighting the Devs. Which is apparently futile when it comes to a certain worlds population.
Well the answer is obvious to me, just re-open Blackgate for transfers, let all the fairweathers go there then the rest of us play “Who gets Blobgate This Week”.
Stack all the baddies in one place then ignore/avoid them.
Or stack Maguuma again so they go to EOTM like they did before.
I agree to some extent. The difference of opinion I have is, instead of ignoring them, we should focus on them. BG should be 2v’d into oblivion instead of everyone playing for 2nd. Which has been a problem in T1, that the 2nd place world gets hammered from both sides, instead of the 1st place world.
A quick thought, should the players squad/party up and stack the map instance to capacity? Also, should we all run Minion Master’s for this? Maybe also swapping to all Herald’s too? Those seem to add the most calculations / load to the server. If you want to stress test, let’s stress it!
OP means: We need maximum Karma train. People miss the Eotm Ktrain, Wxp and Exp era.
The OP has a poorly thought out idea but, people do miss EotM and KTrains.
Anet, is it possible you could look at the map ques.
I am on a paired server, and we are paired with a rank 9 server.
at 40 minutes after reset the map ques are , 31, 22, 42, 55
Seriously. my que has moved 12 places in 40 minutes.
why exactly are servers paired so that a rank 9 tier 4 server has ques like this?
Do you want people to just find other things to do, instead of playing GW2?
its not like we can move to lower tiers.
The ques problem is not only on reset, there is often ques on more than just ebg
Look at it this way, you are open and can receive even more.
you can turn off the zone highlights if that’s the issue?
No, I like gliding as it is.
The profanity filter does nothing if the person is good at their language.
1. Blocking might work, but then you’d have several issues:
2. The block is one way – so what others to damage your rep u tation (can’t say that word in game so I am going to break up here too, to emphasize some words are not supposed to be blocked at all) can be going on without your knowledge after any block
2. You must also block all the whisperers who are the troll’s ‘friends’
3. Block parties are not fun and they aren’t fixing the causes of nastiness in the game.
Good at their language? We are directly talking about ONE word. A word. The R word. So yes a profanity filter can and will work. Talking about the subject directly means that more than that word is being said. As such, then you block them. Not “I’m going to block you”, just do it. Block. Done. They likely won’t know. Won’t care. You start a fight about it in map chat….that is the only time you’re going to run into the issue you described in #2. As such you report those individuals for harassment. End of story. Don’t engage. Trolls shrivel up and die when you ignore them because the entire point of trolling is to cause a reaction. Don’t give them a reaction they will get bored and move on to someone else.
As for reputation. LOL. Reputation. Please. Who cares what a bunch of strangers thinks of you? You have your guild. Your friends. Leave it at that. You can’t please everyone. Not everyone is going to like you. Settle for having friends that do. And real friends won’t be swayed by trolls spreading nonsense. Let people say what they are going to say.
Nasty people will always be nasty. The more energy you give them the more they feed on it. Just go, have fun. Filter the negative out and move on…..
wow, I know a few who could use to take that advice.
All ANet needs to do is just delete Blackgate, problem solved. xD
I completely agree. It’s 1am est on a Friday morning and the outcome has been locked. They have EB Q’d and about 40+ on another map. On top of all that, the are still PPT’ing. Just bad for the mode.
WvW’s basic population control has always been Winning vs Waiting. All Anet has to do is create the correct amount of Tiers for their active populations. Problem is, they keep us locked down which prevents “Winning vs Waiting” from working. They also lowered World populations too low where “Winning vs Waiting” cannot work either.
Unlock the worlds, let the players sort it out. Link as needed.
Yes. The players have been very successful in sorting it out for four years now.
Matches were FAR better balanced than what we have now. A stacked T1 and a fight T2 worked better for years than what we have now.

Is this a player or developer issue that created this imbalance? I recall the Dev’s announced the new reward system, stated higher placing will be important, and then opened BG. Everyone could have guessed they were going to get bandwagoned hard. Not only that, even with the population imbalances for weeks, we’re still closed. The players could have easily fixed this issue ourselves if opened. Which makes this more about us fighting the Dev’s, than fighting other players.
Just noticing the Super Rifle sounds from the King Toad skin isn’t working on Dead Eye.
Gliding in combat is good, it’s enjoyable and increases tactics.
Think about my OCD here…
It’s something I didn’t have and wanted 4 years ago
and, not all of my characters are over 2 years old.
Thank you!!!!
For it’s level of mobility, sustain, and mitigation, it still needs more damage output reduction.
By stating the obvious, I don’t think so.
what statement did you even make? did it make sense? I mentioned that there are problems and you attacked like some startled dog.
You said there was “a ton” and I corrected you that there’s only a handful. I’ll stand corrected if you can list the couple of thousand issues you stated there was?
gliding is a new toy and yay for fun but its bringing in a ton of issues since the maps weren’t designed with it in mind.
Or, in the land’s known as reality, a handful of tweaks.
nice dude. you managed to dismiss my argument and make yourself look like a nincompoop in the process.
By stating the obvious, I don’t think so.
It’s great and should stay as is. All they need to do is polish some terrain tweaks.
And, gliding in combat should absolutely be a thing.
They simply need to revert their bad fix from earlier in the week. That’s when they created the other issue. For the previous issue, they only need to elevate the terrain by 100 units on the keep side.
Hopefully they’ll read this, revert and tweak what was. Then both issues will be resolved.

When is the recipe for Dragon’s Revelry Starcake finally going to be reintroduced into the game? Come on Dev’s make it happen! Think about my OCD here…
It’s really annoying to me actually. Take something with a 1 sec duration and you have to reach 100% or it does nothing. Right now, with full trailblazer’s on, I cannot hit 100% at all.
You keep receiving pips after you complete diamond because it is repeatable. And they add to the count.
That was exactly when I got the last chest.
So let me get this straight. They made this horrible eye sore to prevent people from gliding into OW from the keep? Yet, if you had the man power to take a keep, you should easily be able to the tower anyway. Really, all they needed to do was raise the north side of the slope, facing the keep, by like 100 units.
MUST REVERT! Visually disgusting
Sorry OP, Gliding seems to be a huge win. You’re certainly in a minority in not liking it.
yeah, when I finished Diamond it said something like 1580 pips this match.
I’ll agree the new map is sluggish.
People actually DO like large scale combat. 20v20 isn’t going to be fun in LR fights. Fights were far more fun when LR fights took hours and we had war banners. Also fights were more fun before boon share and condi spam.
AFK Farming deeply affects
Full stop, no it doesn’t. If maps are queued, people more than likely move off as they’d rather be on outmanned maps.
Larger problem is we all have so many alt accounts, it’s easy for an enemy to fill up an enemy map before pushing a keep. That’s a real problem, where you have commander’s missing 20+ spots on a map.
Anyone having crashing issues along with this? Any screen flickering when clicking on a WP or when opening any panel like, inventory?
Or, please nerf the boon meta completely. Boons should be short duration burst and not a full up time requirement.
This give me some ideas for the next time I’m scouting Hills or Bay and getting nothing for hours on end
The GW2 devs allowed BandWagaon gate to concentrate most of the hardcore WvW players on one server.
And… then locked everything up tight.
ftfy
Oh, and let me add another mistake the Dev’s continue to make, reducing the World population limit. The further we go below the actual maps population ceiling, the greater the capacity for imbalance there is. Dev’s need to increase the world populations, not decrease them. If that means they need to consolidate another tier, so be it.
Instead, BG was opened and a group of guilds moved on. Look at the T1 matchup results last week, and you’ll see that it is a blowout, with no other server able to match the coverage that BG has as a result of those guilds moving on. Now, ask yourself how that server as FULL is the same as HOD as FULL. And, many of the questions that I’ve listed become logical followups from thinking about that.
Does HoD have 4 map’s queued during NA?
Does HoD have 2 map’s queued during PST?
Does HoD have 1 map queued during OCX?No, neither of the times??? Well, then you do not have the population BG has. In fact, no world has the population BG has. This imbalance is going to cause harm and the Dev’s are unaware there’s even an issue. So if you’re looking for clarity, it’s likely to not appear any time soon.
Thing is, as per the dev explanation linked by Swagger above, ANet don’t balance WvW by “population”. They balance it by “play hours”. Yaks Bend was marked “Full” for a long time and didn’t get a link because, as far as we can tell, we have a lot of players who are on for many, many hours pretty much every day. We always have had. We have a very consistent and determined core of WvW players who pretty much live there.
Player hours is an important metric to use to balance population. And, by population, we usually refer to the active number of players on a map at any single time. An issue arises when incentives changes player behavior. Because a World comprised of a small pool of players can’t scale up like a World with a larger pool of player can.
Here’s an example:
500 players playing 6 hours a day is 3,000 player hours.
1000 players playing 3 hours a day is 3,000 player hours.
Same population on map, right?
Now, drop an new incentive and those 500 may play more per day but, how much more can they play? Maybe those 500 will now play 8 or 9 hours for 4k – 4.5k phrs. But, that 1000 player World playing just 5 hours will have more population on map with 5k phrs. If they equally played 8 hr/d they’d have double the active population on map. So here, what was fine is now wildly imbalanced do to new incentives. So both population AND player hours have to be factored in when adding new incentives.
Let’s not forget, they announced new incentives AND opened the #1 server for people to bandwagon to. It was the worst choice the Dev’s could have made.

Example: JQ have a map queue blob running condition heavy builds (which is already cheesemode because they outnumber us and because conditions are able to be applied faster than classes can cleanse) BUT what is also occuring is that JQ have their own lag that they bring due to the sheer ridiculous size of their map blob.
Sorry but, that’s the 884 BG trying to load into the map.
I’ve been playing WvW during the weekend around 16 hours.
Only legitimate reasons i found the decay catch up to you:
- Defending(1) an structure is not being attacked.
- Escorting(1) dollies to a full supplies tower/keep.
- Looking for duels(1) in EB.
- Scouting(1) in own keep/closest towers to spawn in home map.
(1) : Afkers in disguise.
As the Quarry’s Legendary Scout, this is bull patties! Learn how to WvW please???
or, the 33% of swiftness is actually 100%. Which means this is just a horrid description of a skill. I mean, if swiftness is 33% and Super Speed is 100%, then it should go faster, right????
editing to add yes, it only increases speed in combat beyond what regular swiftness would do because 33% hit the cap too. Bleeping tool tip math is fudged.
(edited by DeWolfe.2174)
First noticed it last night in WvW with the Squad. I was traveling at the same terrain speed as the Squad with swiftness. Once I used “Impossible Odds” and received Super Speed, I should have traveled faster than the rest of the Squad. Yet, I was still running equal to the Squad in terms of terrain speed. I’ve tested this in Divinities Reach, a Guild Hall, and in Queensdale too with the same results. Tested this with an Ele and an Engi with similar results as well.
Noticing that Super Speed has the same 33% Terrain Speed increase as Swiftness. Tried several professions and all of the run at the same out of combat speed as Swiftness. I’m guessing it’s a bug and not a nerf to it?
The fundamental conflict here is between people who value different things in wvw: “server identity” vs competitiveness/balance.
How does one truly have a competition when the Dev’s set who wins and loses by manipulating populations? Mostly by linking and locking Worlds. And, when they start showing us not just queues but, actual active map populations, then I’ll think they may care about competition.
We had a nice casual farming method to build up the Leather supply. Anyone who complained about that farm, should live with the consequences of a lower leather supply now.
Any thoughts on this?
No… is my only thought, just no. Fights need to be encouraged, not discouraged.
Plus it would give you something for the work you put into getting to that level.
I scouted for 6 hours last night while we T3’d Air keep. Scouting prevented 4 attacks easily. Why did I get for my work, crud!
Bad system and rewards high populations that zerg.
