I think what the community wants is shown in this topic: everyone wants different things to be addressed and some people have a hard time understanding that their opinion may be a minority or a bad idea in the context of the whole game (and I admit, I am struggling with that as well myself sometimes).
I think what all WvW guys want is to be taken seriously. I think the WvW community would be happier if Arenanet had someone on this forums to talk, publish their positions, react on good ideas etc. if possible someone from inside the WvW scene. It is easier to understand why something isn’t changed if we know “why” or that they are working on it etc. It wouldn’t change the game itself, but it would change our perception of it.
Bring Back Tyler.
Rather have Devon and a roll back to pre Hot.
This time around I believe the reevaluation was done by Tiers. Arena Nets logic was pretty spot on. Good job Team!
As many people in previous threads said, you can not just unlink T1 servers because BG will not have a match. Therefore it wouldn’t make sense to unlink MAG. What would make sense is to reevaluate based off the tiers itself:
T1: BG, MAG, YB T2: TC, JQ, FA
When you look at it this way, you can see why MAG has a link and YB has a link.
Now with Tier 2 and specifically the argument of TC versus JQ, when Arena Nets overall goal is overall WvW balance you do not aim at giving a populated server like JQ more coverage simply because a competitor that is near equal out numbers them like TC did to JQ during the last 2 months.
Instead what you do is you take coverage from TC and you keep JQ the same. Thus, spreading out coverage from the top down in a Tier. TC loses its link and JQ doesn’t gain one. FA keeps a link. TC won quickly last match up with a link and now the only thing that’s changed is that YB is in the tier and TC does not have a link. Thus, JQ a direct competitor can compete at a greater level.
Not once yet did I mention Server population status. Because it seems that didn’t change. It doesn’t seem that it was evaluated thus it doesn’t change the reason as to why TC is open and JQ is locked.
JQ is an rare imbalanced server. JQs imbalance comes from their OCX to SEA that makes up a large portion of their overall coverage where as TC is the opposite(EU/NA). Most servers have a lack of OCX/SEA and it shows in the current match up.
You guys need to understand the difference between Victory Points and your rank and what determines it. When JQ SEA logs on, There is no opposition to slow them. You can see this last SEA time. The pie chart will start to look like pac-man. They have both TC and YB out numbered. After SEA, JQ loses all their forces besides 1 force and TC and YB have multiple forces and the pic chart looks like both TC and YB swallowing JQ. In fact both YB and TC gain on JQ at the same time and skirmishes come down to the wire between the two. Any 2 servers that fight JQ has the same issue and giving JQ more coverage simply means a rare super stacked server.
What JQ has to do is… Everyone has sayed it I dont have to.
People are just living in the past and think this is the days of Waha or something. JQ is not that server any longer. For OCX, TC had 5 Guild groups running in OCX this past week, 5 of them. That’s not even counting the random tags, 5 full guild groups. TC and Mag have been stacking the heck out of OCX, far beyond anything JQ has. So we are in a deficit for OCX and EU and just getting to equal in NA. So where is this magical population that makes us “full” or "balanced for T2 even?
For Anet, they should NOT be deciding what Server’s are in what Tier!!!! How is that a competition, when you can never compete with the developers. Seriously, right there you are saying Anet did whatever it had to to keep MAG in Tier 1, to keep us in T2, and manually setting matches each week to keep things this way. Then why bother playing when there’s nothing our actions can do to change the outcome??? The only thing we can do is to just stop playing all together and drop, because we can never get ahead unless we’re the “chosen” server.
EotM is a better RvR platform than WvW has become. Least in there we can pick guilds and players to form a Team on a new instance and make our own short match up. Someone start a website or something to organize it.
(edited by DeWolfe.2174)
But it is about being Full. JQ is Full because it has more active population than Very High servers. There’s no reason to give a link to a Full server.
I think this round of links is pretty reasonable. Look at how close all the NA matches are right now.
Population is used for server status. Links are used to better even up matches. This is not whats happening
^This.
I’ve got a lot of friends on JQ and when I look at my friends list during the day I rarely see more than 2 or 3 of them in wvw. But every one of them will hop in at some point, either during prime time or just to get their daily. All of these people are technically active players even if they are only in wvw for about an hour or less everyday.
When I look around on Mag I see the same names logging in every day and putting in way more hours.
Yeah and thats why we’re full, not why we didn’t get a link.
JQ is currently winning the T2 match without a server link. Seems like the T2 match is pretty even.
That’s because it’s the weekend and some of our Sea came on for reset. Today we have some NA playing during EU, etc. Once the work week begins, that coverage and man power goes poof!
After manual close now also manual linking, i’m out. Rip
You know… FA’s been Full/Very High since the population calculation change over a year ago and hanging around rank 6. Anet at the time said some servers marked Full were overstacked well beyond the Full status (like BG still is). When JQ was Very High, you guys still brought out numbers that FA could almost compete with. I don’t honestly know how you expect not to go Full when you can outnumber FA at times and then go and recruit. T2 “size” is basically the new max server size you have to get used to, not the old overstacked T1 sizes. It really sounds like you need to trim players in certain timezones if you want to fill other timezones.
Its not about just being full its not getting a link. Anet has just literally destroyed JQ. Well done anet.
This demands justification.
But it is about being Full. JQ is Full because it has more active population than Very High servers. There’s no reason to give a link to a Full server.

Which is a huge problem. So many alts/spies and these WvW for dailies and gathering players that it dilutes our player bases dramatically. I have no clue how Anet is measuring population but, it’s not even close to what we used to be able to run. It’s bad enough that the game is dying out but, it just feels like it more and more.
I have a feeling there’s going to be quite a drop off this fall. Cannon’s and this linking is going to be the straw for many.
Oh lord, no! How the mighty have fallen! What’s so special about JQ that they can’t fall a few tiers? Servers have been rising and falling long before links became a thing.
Because it should be based on merit! Not the Dev’s sitting there with a list saying, “who do WE want in Tier 1, Tier 2, etc…?” Then handicapping or blocking progress of others. The dev’s should only set up the parameters of a competition, share those parameter’s with the competitor’s, then leave it alone.
Maybe they’re trying to create stable tiers?
Making JQ full and unlinked guarantees they stay T2 for a long time to come. TC without a link can’t compete in T1. Mag and YB linked and open mean they stay top tier, BG perma full but rightly so (even though its unfair that mag stays open).
But then they make weird matchups -
FA are going to lose every single skirmish this week. Everyone hates being placed in a matchup with YB – but you put 2 extremely volatile servers JQ and TC with them (as if trying to get them to implode).
Only goal I see is encouraging transfers. Maybe they see that WvW volatility can be lucrative ($20+ a pop to a “very high” server) and are going to milk it dry rather than actually making it fun and fair.
This is exactly it, they see an opportunity for $$$$, so screw logic and the players… just chase the dollars.
Except, that is utterly flawed as they’ll just keep losing players. No players, no income…
What’s mind boggling is that OT’ing was an issue to be addressed. Thus, world capacity should have been increased, not decreased. Decreasing means more hours per day and more days per week each player has to play to cover and fill the maps. They’ve decreased it so low that you can’t fill maps 24/7 unless each player play’s 8 ish hours per day. That level of OT’ing is ludicrous and OT’ing is all it takes to win now. It’s just the wrong direction for the game. Beyond that fact that there’s simply zero competition as the Dev’s are making up rules as they go, making up teams, having biased populations, it’s not a fun competitive environment any longer.
SBI up by 3 now ZOMG, SBI taking it all the way back to t1 HYPE
Farming Mad King’s Lab > WvW. Maybe WvW after Halloween….
Lemme see if I do this right. Here’s a link to another post I made a couple weeks ago. See the numbers in the Q’s.

TC never organized to tank. I don’t have personal issues with JQ, I don’t like how JQ stacks to imbalance and kill off competition is all.
Say’s the person who stacked TC’s OCX with 5 guilds?? 5 GUILDS in OCX!!!! So please tell us about the stacking of time zones, please?
Not really, I am simply annoyed by the amount of QQ coming from JQ.
Any thread that mentions JQ, you are there complaining. If you’ve read the other forums, you’ll see complaints for JQ to recruit more NA. That it needs more NA so server’s like BG can have fun fighting us. Thus, we recruited more NA. Now here’s you, someone not even in the match, to complain after the fact.

Hi all,
You’ve probably noticed that the champions in the labyrinth haven’t felt as challenging this year as they did in previous years. The only actual change to them was a bug fix to the lich to keep him from summoning unlimited minions at high event scaling. But they all felt easier because they hadn’t kept up with the power growth of the player base. We gave them all quick buffs today.
Additionally, with this map being as profitable as it is, a lot of players have started triggering diminishing rewards. That’s just not cool. So we disabled diminishing rewards on this map.
Mo
Even the complete GW2 addict that I am, even I haven’t cared to play this week. Mo swoops in, drops the mic, and boom, I’m freak’n logging in tonight!
TC gained FUG a 30 man guild after losing KnF. When TC gained FUG, TC was locked right after and only opened up a week there after the initial lock.
You left out that FUG was from JQ. JQ also lost both Fear guilds the past couple weeks that ran during EU and NA. You also forgot to mention how you and TC have already locked up first place against JQ in this week’s match up.
A server’s status is determined with WvW activity partially. It also takes into account just how many accounts are tied to that said server. Now two things:
2. Jade Quarry has accumulated a lot of accounts more than the majority of the servers over time due to the nature of WvW and their stay in Tier 1. Because the server has so many accounts, you can expect a server like JQ to show inconsistent performance levels and spikes over time.
Or, JQ has accumulated the most alt/spy accounts? That enemy players have placed their numerous extra accounts on JQ to the point of it diluting JQ’s WvW population. It’s easy to run an alt into WvW for the daily and be counted as a “wvw player”. I bet if Anet looks, JQ has the highest population of low activity players. Those players are most likely not loyal to JQ and their main account is on an enemy server.
JQ hit full status quick right in the middle of the transfer. This was abnormal and no doubt and possibly a manual lock on JQ but why?
It just shows that WvW is no longer a competitive game mode. The outcome is being heavily manipulated and not by the players. So, why should any of us bother playing in such an inhospitable environment?
Lets assume.
That’s pretty much the problem right there, is it not? There’s been no mention of another map even being worked on. Though the DBL was voted back in on this assumption. For myself, I don’t take even a moment to assume they’ll be another map or that it will enhance WvW.
Wants to be meta yet, I’m still waiting for Ranger to get a hard nerfing. The whole bunker Druid has needed to be adjusted for over 6 months. Solar beam needs some form of counter play. And, obviously Bristleback and Smoke scale need nerfing.
but wait, come Monday they’ll lock us and say we have more WvW players than BG even.
We are going to make several temporary Glicko rating adjustments for tomorrow’s resets.
Yak’s Bend: replace +150 with +75
We believe the +150 adjustment to Yak’s Bends is now too high. They still need a slight adjustment to remain in tier 1 where they are competitive so we believe adjusting it to be +75 is more balanced. This adjustment will give Yak’s Bend ~64% to stay in tier 1 and ~36% to move to tier 2.
People are hoarding because the value is too low to sell, and they are waiting for the price to pick back up when the next big craze comes out. Also uncertainty about what/how many mats will be needed for the next new item adds to this behavior.
I don’t sell because having gold is wasteful. If John adds an earned interest rate on the gold in my bank, then I’ll convert more to gold. Otherwise, commodities are the better long term investment. I simply keep the things I get as drops, that’s all.
For the economy and the capacity to earn wealth in game, it feels more and more stifling and not fun. Every time I find something to do or farm, it’s removed. Again it’s Anet enforcing a “Flip or Flop” strategy.
Btw… why crash the Seaweed market by creating a farming node? It died in under 24 hours.

I’m just reading this topic for the first time. No, completing a Raid should not be a requirement to unlock. I have to admit, having a dead XP bar that sits there lifeless has been disturbing to me. Though I have to say, I do like not having that screamingly blindingly annoying yellow and white color of the bar being black. Much better experience and the Dev’s should really start adding ways to mute the Hud or make a transparency slider for it.
The easiest option could be to make a repeatable Spirit Shard Mastery line. Make it the default line that runs and the game reverts to, when no other Masteries are toggled on.
Its illogical to gate the base method of character progression. Anyone who knows anything about the psychology of games knows that games started giving XP because players like to see progression.
Spirit shards are a currency. They offer no form of player progression.
Wealth is progression…….
Not really. Most definitely not character progression. Spirit shards are rewards/currency. Otherwise we can argue for increasing drop rates for precursors as it improves character progression. Yeah… no.
Gearing up a character and obtaining appearance item’s is certainly most of the progression in game. Spirit Shards can be converted to gold and other items. Spirit Shards are also required for our “Legendary Journeys” which is absolutely a form of progression. So… yes really.

This frequency of maps opening and closing is derived from player behavior. The zones where this occurs often have a much higher frequency of players entering and exiting the zone. On a couple of maps, we all should have learned to not instantly take the map closing option. For all other zones, the design works as intended.
I asked for a Flaming Whip for a condi bleed and burn build. That was liked, 3 years ago.
Do players care about roaming is a better question. This week especially it’s endless 2,3, or 5 man groups and no roamers.
Let’s not forget that Hammer needs toning down. All this power creep is bad for the game.
1000 players is pretty small. I thought.
I do agree, WvW requires easily 3-5k players. The maps as they are now requires roughly 54k player hours to maximize output. If an entire side of only 1k had to cover the maps we have now, you’d have to play roughly 7 hours per day, 7 days per week. It would be nothing more than “OT Wars 2 : the Zombie Apocalypse”. All this illustrates is, is that the Dev’s are looking at population poorly. The map queues should be the only limitation.
the class has a lower skill floor and lower skill ceiling
The problem is this statement, used over and over, without any logical sense put to it. The reality is, most players seems to use it interchangeably for pacing. Just because a profession has more things to push, it doesn’t mean that pushing buttons faster is skillful. The opposite is true for the limited and slower paced professions. Simply, pacing doesn’t equal skill.
I don’t think I’m allowed to share full details of the leak on this forum
Am I the only one that’s having a problem with this? Someone should have been fired for giving you inside information. WTF?
Know what? Back in the day we’ve had the best fights ever: “Banner the Lord!!!” “Timer Garri: 0.10 SPAAAM!”
I really wish those days back. *sigh
Right?!?! The hours long Lord room fights we used to have were glorious. There’s nothing wrong with SMC as it is. Cracking it is not a problem either. You just have to man up, hit it, and don’t run from siege like a light weight.
btw, JQ owns SMC right now.
Sorry TC
Most of the complaints on here are really just politics and pandering. It’s “I like this, make it better.” and " I hate that, make it worse." There’s little honest discussion on here about balance. There’s even less honest discussion about builds and play style. Far too much ego goes into that discussion.
DH is a well balanced bunker right now. It’s a Guardian, if any profession should be able to hold a point, it’s them. Not an Ele or a Mesmer, those we poorly balanced and out of character.
I have a feeling the claims of 4-5 minute fights are more like 30 seconds. For me, I like longer fights and despise burst meta’s. If anything is uninteresting and not fun it’s burst meta’s.
The balance is actually pretty good right now. Warrior can actually use a DPS toning down. Ele needs to be narrowed down in role a bit, it has too much of everything. Perma Evade Thief needs to lose either it’s heal or it’s condi clear on evade. Everything else is ok right now.
Also regarding the Vendor, I think he is there simply in case someone still have some tokens from the tournaments they haven’t spent yet. I know I had a few spare for about a year after last tournament (until I finally relented and wasted them on infusions…).
I still have 1200 tickets and the golden yak finishers to use
For the OP, the Dev’s have said that there are no future plans for tournaments as they saw a permanent loss in players afterwards. That’s a permanent loss in players afterwards. So they are trying to not go there.
Hey everyone,
I wanted to address the idea of moving world linking to monthly instead of every 2 months, since it is being brought up more and more frequently.
Or, how about that this is supposed to be a competitive game mode? We don’t want you making our teams up for us. Especially don’t want you tearing the community apart again a month later. What the hell kind of competition is that? What the hell kind of “World” are we supposed to have with that? If you are going to do that, then remove Worlds from this completely and go to colors, numbers, or whatever. Because we’re entering the “stick a fork in it” zone for “World vs World”.
Linking and the instability of it is not healthy. If I wanted mindless zerging I’d go into EotM. Which pretty much is exactly what “WvW” is becoming.
Your server must be DragonBrand. That server was going to lose a mass of guilds even if the link didn’t happen. This is simply due to the state of that server and the guilds that wanted to go. Not to mention weeks/months before the unlinking of DB, some of those very same guilds were in the process of talking to other servers about transferring.
Linking may have been what helped sustain DB for a period of time and while it did hurt DB population wise, theirs a lot more that went into why DB lost all those guilds other than linking. I wouldn’t blame how DB rose and fell just on that.
But wait, rotations was supposed to revive WvW. Meanwhile, all it’s doing is harming those with server pride and those that cared about their community.
GJ on reducing our WvW population further.
Exactly. The week previous before the link, TC tanked and JQ pushed up because JQ wanted to go to T1. They went, TC didn’t and got a link. And then went back to T1.
And, instead of using actual numbers like a logic person would, we have Anet. Not only did they remove our link, they locked us. Then tried to justify it by saying we have a greater population than Mag and BP. Which is really LoL worthy. Does anyone that actually plays WvW believe that???
Now today they open everyone but, BG. smh
From the wiki:
A Q&A session with Isiah(sic) Cartwright revealed the way Magic Find works: “Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.”
I would say Isiah might have been mistake and you would have a 2/10 chance, not a 3/10 chance. I believe Magic Find is a multiplier and not an additional. That would explain why there’s a diminishing return to additional Magic Find. I still maxed it out long ago because, why the heck not.
1+200%=3
For those people who are not so good with percentsHere’s the actual formula.
It would be like this:
n*(1+[x/100])
n = the original % chance for something to drop
x = the % of magic find you have
TY for writing it out.

You aren’t supposed to finish it in one day.
This is like my complaints of the Desert Borderland. Why in the heck would I WANT to play on a map with a theme that is dead and barren, day in and day out? A map with God awful music droning in and out, over and over, no less. Grabbing an Apple in Queensdale and running to give it to someone once a day fine, sure, whatever.
Someone at Anet is far too morbid and Goth in their artistic taste to realize that that crud is niche for a reason. Stop shoving your cup of suffering in our faces.

For now, I’m grinding it out and getting done so I don’t have to go back to Ember any longer.

Looking forward to Halloween. I like the zombie vs human events where you switch to the zombie team if you lose. I would love to hide in a bunch of castles with siege weapons holding out zombie players, then hiding or running away to live until the rescue ships arrive.
Are you talking about this? https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lunatic_Inquisition
That was really fun, and they removed it from Halloween last year for some reason. They should bring it back .
Pfft, where’s Reaper’s Rumble!!! MOAR PVP!
I can say that no, I don’t share that as a GW2 issue. I believe I have around 60 characters across several accounts that I run frequently. Sure, there are some characters that get little use. Mostly it’s from not liking the profession mechanics and Meta at the time. Though as the needs change and the Meta changes, so do the amount of use some characters receive. It’s a nice cycle that keeps things interesting for me. Especially if you PvP at all.
I disagree, it’s one step:
Atombombs for tactivators
It’s a bit racing after the clock, true, but the PvE grind is well worth it. And well, once the bomb is thrown the MU is over.
Do you mean the “Atom-o-matic Equilizer” from the gem store? I was really looking forward to getting one. Just waiting to save up the 16k gems or for it to go on sale over Wintersday.
Want to encourage more fighting, you have to lower PPK. Can’t blame folks for avoiding fights when it’s too costly to Yolo.
Not without seeing how they affect people’s behavior, as well.
Here’s an affect, players not playing as much or entirely stopped playing….
WvW needs to be fun every week. I’ve never heard of a game where you need to take 1-3 week vacations because of bad matchmaking. Yet that has pretty much sums up GW2 since they changed over to the glicko system.
WvW was always run by the Glicko system. It’s the Dev’s manually meddling with Glicko and breaking up our communities the past 6 months that’s the issue.
I’d like to see people we care about die.
How about NO! What kinda of warped mind wants to see death? Really poor request…
It seems more that she has a plan to manipulate Lazarus, and doesn’t want the commander to know, since he’d never agree to it. Act like she has joined the Mantle, serving Lazarus…and then backstabbing him or giving us info. Jory had always been the detective of the group after all.
I was thinking the same way. I don’t feel she would actually betray the Commander. She is basically doing what she does best which is investigate.
Exactly! Marjory’s job is a detective. It’s either this or she got into an argument with Kas and the emotional turmoil is making her make stupid decisions. Maybe that’s why we haven’t seen Kas at all in LS3. I love Kasjory though so I’m hoping that theory is wrong. Please just let it be Marjory doing her job as a detective.
I’ve got a feeling it’s got something to do with maybe trying to bring Belinda back.
Or, she killed Kasmeer and is trying to figure out how to bring her back. The feelings of guilt and self preservation are sinking in. dun dun DUUUUN!!!!!
We’ll probably get suckered and Jory’s going to kill her. Just look at the skulls and chains on her new outfit. Jory’s gone dark side on us. Either that or she’s just in a rut of having God Awful taste lately.
ALL dragons need to die. Don’t get attached to it. You are being corrupted by this thing already.
We were corrupted the second we saw the Eternal Alchemy.
OR, we were blessed. Glass half full people, glass half full!
For the OP, this is Anet… you should know by now we can’t have nice things.
Just as the title says. My guild is working on decorating for Halloween but the area we have chosen is way too bright because of light from torches. We have tried to cover them with large statues and other decorations, but the light remains. It would be awesome if there was a way to turn them off.
That’s because it’s ambient lighting not coming from Torches, etc. The campfires, bonfires, etc have no illumination to them either. I REALLY wish they did because I’d like to brighten some area’s of my Guild Hall. More control of lighting would be a good thing across the board.
Here is the NA server activity since the linking.
I’m not sure if Northern Shiverpeaks could actually compete in Tier 1 but its activity is comparable.
Dragonbrand’s activity is taking a dive.
And JQs is at T3 level so why is it closed? If population is based off the last month during that whole time the JQ population has been less than Maguuma and now YBs. YB is full but Maguuma isn’t, there is an inconsistency here. Moreover YB’s population is not at Maguuma’s size.
Depends on how Anet measures the activity. If they do unique logins on the maps throughout the week, that could be dramatically different from manhours on the maps for the week.
If they are trying to balance the competition, the should be tracking manhours.
JQ should be open or linked. If it is neither they are kinda getting screwed.
Kinda why there’s a “Oh heck with this!” attitude. Dev’s are pulling way too many levers. That kind of manipulation is not interesting, it’s not refreshing, and it certainly isn’t fun. Stable and balanced populations and matches were better for the mode.
Population calculations are probably getting skewed by players coming in for dailies, for harvesting, and a biggie is having alt accounts. I wouldn’t even count a player that just runs reset as a viable WvW player. You should at least be playing for 5% of the week to be counted.
