I dont think the biz Anet is running can be categorized as “Dirty Cash”. A “cash cow” in a good way, maybe it is, but I don’t really know if it is. And even if this game is a cash cow, then so be it! Cash cow doesn’t equate “evil”, “bad”, “dirty”. It just means, it is a good source of money. I googled the meaning of Cash Cow and sure enough, it doesn’t really equate to being bad.
As for all your other concerns, they can be obtained by gold to gem conversion. I never spent real cash in this game, except for the initial 2 copies I got for me and the wifey. It’s money well spent. And while I would like to spend real cash to show support, I haven’t even converted any of my gold to gem except for one time when I have to get “bag slots” because I was a noobie and was using only the 5bag-slot that drops from bosses in Queensdale. But since then, it’s easy to just make new characters, craft 15-bag slots for them and before you know it, you will complain about how to manage your inventory from different alts (whether they are Lv2 or Lv80).
Furthermore, you can just do FotM Lv1 repeatedly and farm for tokens and get the bag that you want/need. You don’t even need a full party of 5 for that, I often run it with just 2 others,
As for RNG drops (porous bones and the like), well, if you Anet gives your guaranteed rare every drop, you’ll complain that armors and weapons dont stack. Players will complain that these drops are just trash drops and should just be converted to gold.
And when those “drops” are converted to gold, the inflation will rise since anyone can accumulate gold. And players will complain that they have thousands of gold, but the items costs hundred thousand more.
The point is, there will always be something to complain about, no matter how small. There might be valid complaints (such as the bugged ecto return from salvage), but yours fall on those “irrelevant” complaint.
If anything, I only have a few complaints, and I won’t even consider them valid myself, as I have yet to see the bigger picture. But for the sake of sharing, some of my complaints are:
== my feedback to OP thread ends, below is my own feedback to game ==
1) RNG drops on items – if there is an alternative way to get the item you want for (other than crafting, and farming till you drop, i.e. scavenger hunt) then it’s good. The RNG box can stay, and those who like to gamble can do those. And those who like to work for item, can also take that route. An example is “Mystic Clover” which is always a gamble.
The reason why I said that may not be valid, is even, for example, a player gets a legendary, those items doesn’t offer an advantage other than cosmetic. In fact, the effect might even be a disadvantage for those who have bad graphics card.
2) Anet changing G2G conversion (gold to gem, and vice versa) without clear formula on how this works – yeah, I have seen the inflation. And an ordinary player can’t keep up with how Anet calculate those, when the changes will happen, and what is affecting them. I can speculate that the rate is change based on how many in-game gold is flowing in the whole game region (i.e. EU vs NA) and that Anet is curbing the inflation, adding the G2G conversion as a cash sink. But even then, unless you make watching the G2G as a career or this is your hobby or this is your work in real life, it will be very hard to catch up.
For players like me who makes gold as I play when I have time, the changing conversion means what I used to make was “precious” and now, what I used to make is “nothing” even if I make the same amount of gold compare to when I started a several months ago.
But then again, that is just how life goes, if you don’t catch up, you will get left behind, hence if and when I get too left behind and no way to catch up, that is the time I will be saying good bye to this awesome game. And even then, stat-wise, I may not be considered left behind because I have full ascended now, but still, it’s always nice to see new looks from time to time since even some of the good things never last….

hi, you can contact any AoW (Aeon of Wonder) member to get you settled in.
In world-boss events, we know that our FoV change into a really good angle, but other than those situations, our FoV isn’t as wide…
I made a recording of how L.A. looks like if we have the World-Boss-Event FoV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBkEme7Q19c
I made one for Divinity’s Reach as well as Cursed Shore….
Thanks! The 4.5G comes from 50s per Mission.
Bounty = 50s x 3 = 1.5G
Trek = 50s x 3 = 1.5g
Rush = 50s
Challenge=50s
Puzzle =50s
So for all, it’s 4.5G (1.5 + 1.5G + .5G + .5G + .5G)
At least, that’s how I interpret the post from guides, but now I know it’s incorrect. Tnx again!
Question is based on guides posted here:
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/basics/complete-guide-guild-missions
http://dulfy.net/2013/02/26/gw2-guild-missions-guide/
How can we get 12 commendations per week? In our guild, when we did Tier 1 bounty, we did get a chest and 2 commendations for the first time we killed the bounty (even before we killed the other target[s]). The merit comes after all targets are defeated within the time limit. However, after doing Tier 2, no chest nor commendation was given. Note that the mission is done for the first time and not affected by the “7PM EST Saturday window” limitation.
According to gw2hub link above, we have the following commendation rewards:
•Bounty – (Tier 1) 15 Merits, (Tier 2) 20 Merits, (Tier 3) 25 Merits – total of 6 commendations
•Trek – (Tier 1) 5 Merits, (Tier 2) 7 Merits, (Tier 3) 10 Merits – 0 commendation
•Guild Challenge – (Tier 1) 30 Merits – 2 commendations
•Guild Rush – (Tier 1) 15 Merits – 2 commendations
•Guild Puzzle – (Tier 1) 30 Merits – 2 commendations
For a total of 12 commendations and 4.5Gold per week, assuming the guild can complete ALL those categories and ALL tiers of each category.
However, like I said, doing Tier 1 nets us the merits, and rewards (1 chest, 50silver, rares). But Tier 2 produces nothing, granted, we failed it the first time we tried. Do we need to complete Tier 2 to get the commendation? Because in Tier 1, even just killing 1 bounty and not killing the other one gives us commendation, rare and silver.
TL:DR
So, is it really possible to get 12 commendations per week (and on a side note, 4.5G per week) or not? If so, can anyone give a link or guide?
I checked Dulfy, and it says
“You earn 2 Guild Commendations per Guild Mission category with a weekly reset.” – but never clearly specify if it’s applicable to all guild mission (gw2hub says Trek don’t give commendations) nor whether Guild Mission gives commendations per tier.
Dulfy Link: http://dulfy.net/2013/02/26/gw2-guild-missions-guide/
I checked gw2hub, and it says
“The potential then, once you have all five Guild Missions unlocked at all tiers, is to earn over 4 gold per week and 12 Commendations (I don’t believe Trek offers Commendations). "

If you play this game 1hr/day and you get ALL things you want, for all your characters, I think many players will get bored even before they hit their first month. I mean, nothing to strive for
I know this is an old thread, but I still would like to push my request: Bring Back The Old Orr. Yes, even those pulling mobs. I could care less about the CC of the mobs in Orr, as long as they bring back the old DEs, and old drop loot system.
Every new patch makes Orr boring. I’m not sure about others though, but for me, the latest patch just killed that zone for me. Anet made it so easy, they decided to make the loot practically not even worth the time.
I agree with the post about the behavior as I sometimes do this (and I’m a thief, and I don’t like using spear 5 underwater just to get it ^^).
However, an alternative is posted by Churros. You can also go to south part of CS and dodge red circle. Or, go to Fireheart rise, and otw to CoF, there are flame throwers that with just 1 dodge, you’ll get abour 4-7 evades.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not particularly a fan of that category, but hey, sometimes we have to adapt since it’s not really game breaking and there are ways around being reckless (as I posted above).
And oh, if you go dungeon or FotM, you’ll rack up evade (and Healer) before the dungeon is finished ^^
Maybe I just missed it on the patch notes, but I haven’t seen the Group Event Champion Broodmother in Cursed Shore.
I’m referring to:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Kill_the_Risen_broodmother_
Welcome back. I hope you don’t jump ship out again soon enough. Anyway, I feel your pain man. I will just reply to your main points (the TLDR)
- For event rewards, I looked at it in a different way than you. Because of the lack of “raid” system in this game, there has to be a “Group” event to “gather” people and rally them for the “common good” of the “world” (or zone or map or whatever). If a Group Event always has better loots than solo (able) events, what would happen to Solo (able) events then? I’m pretty sure many will complain about “bla bla, I know this is an MMO, but I sometimes wish I can just solo mobs and get great rewards. I don’t like going in to big events, that lags me, or just plainly can’t see my toon” etc etc and so on and so forth.
I see Group vs Solo (able) a compromise. In group you get to have better chances (mostly because of more mobs, means more chance of better loots, and in some cases, better quality of loots from Chest {based on Anet’s feedback about chest loot table}). In solo (able) events, you get less mobs, so less chance to get loots or decent loots. If you think of it as a raffle draw (RNG system), then the more chances of getting raffles, the more chance of “winning”. But even those who only submit 1 raffle ticket, can get all the luck and get a pre cursor dropped on them (RNG system).
Also, Exotic are so easy to acquire which is all you need to roll thru the game except in FotM. But hey, Ascended rings drops so easy as well there, and if you play long enough, you can get infusion thru tokens. Some call it grinding, some call it farming, but FotM for is having fun!
-As for Map travel, at first I find it stupid as well. But since I mostly stay in L.A. it’s become cheaper. Also, if I just do my dailies, and a few events, I can afford jumping from any starter location to Orr without so much thinking of how much it costs. I mean, do 5 events at any starter, kill 15varieties, collect stuff, and by that time you complete them, you get enough money to go anywhere.
And if earning money becomes so easy, watch how fast the price of each items go up. I mean, your 100s of gold will be equal to 10s of silver because the price of items will go skyrocket? Why? Gold so easy to come by, many players can buy items in TP, so sellers keeps pushing prices to get even more gold, players have enough money to buy, so sellers keeps pushing it up. So it won’t be any much different than it is now.
So what I’m saying is, Map Travel costs is not as bad as you see it. If you look at it from a different point of view, it becomes reasonable (glass half full, empty kinda thingie)
- I think the new patch on Jan. 28 will address legendary. But really, unless you like the effects, Legendary has no better stat than exotic (till Ascended weapon is released that is). So I don’t mind people having shinier stuff than me, it’s the same thing stat-wise.
It’s the same for any “cosmetic” stuff in the game: you don’t need them, you even have an alternative. Unless the item is absolutely necessary to win in PvE or PvP, I don;t have any issue. It’s cosmetic, I get to have the same stat.
I know, some people “wants” their thing, and that’s cool. But like all things in the world, some things you have to work for, one way or another. If not, the challenge is no more, and without challenge, the game becomes boring. And boring means, death of the game. And sometimes, closure of the provider.
So people who grind for Legendary, have fun guys and gratz if you get one, you deserve it. Whether you flick a credit card to get them or did serious hard work, you still spent time on it.
repost? old thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Confessions-of-a-Magic-Find-Leecher/first
Sorry to see you go…
I have only three characters leveled to Lv80 and have done 100% Map Completion. PvE in this game is so darn easy.
I mean you have a chance to survive a death? (i.e. downed state). So easy…
No experience loss or item lost on death? So easy…
Everyone else can revive a dead or downed player? So easy…
Dungeons that allows a checkpoint retry instead of full reset? So easy…
Group Event bosses that can be soloed? So easy….
Dynamic Events that can be completed solo? So easy…
Quests that doesnt require running/turning in? So easy…
Going to instance without “entrance items/pre req”? So easy…
Top tier armor achievable by almost everyone except the laziest? So easy…
You have chance to reskill after choosing your traits? So easy…
And more and more and more easy stuffs…like so many WP to avoid mobs. Using items to increase damage or durability.
I play Thief, Mesmer, and Necromancer. Orr is a playground to me. I run Fractals of the Mist in Mid-Tier Lvl in Magic Find gear. I can do Arah, CoF, etc. and survive to tell the tales….
I can do those stuff, because this game has a lot of easy things to do. Maybe not “smooth” because of some annoying bugs, but almost everything can be done solo, or just by 5 people….
I agree OP, with everything. Especially with the zone itself being detailed and very well drawn. I would love to stop and smell the roses, take in the corrupt scenery. But then I would be knocked down, pulled back, stunned, dazed (half HP is gone at this point), then comes the high dps abilities. If I ever stop to take in the scenery, Im dead. Like you said, “theres the green way point, map out your path, and RUN! Do not look back!”. Its like a scene from Dawn of the dead or something. Running with 50 mobs chasing you. You look over your shoulder “Holy kitten they are still coming, kitten run faster! Ah crap! Pulled back WTF! Im clothie, I cannot withstand this punishment, HALP!!!”
I don’t really understand it well. But if you complain about getting pulled by mobs, or have no way to stay safe, you just need to be familiar with the place. I use a Thief (Medium), Mesmer (Light), and Necro (Light) and all can fight at least 5mobs and beat them.
I can also go from one place to another, easily. It may not be smooth (i.e. ran out of dodge), but nowhere near dying to get from North (Caern) to South (Grenth), or to East (Shelter’s Gate), to West (Gavbeorn or Anchorage).
Even made solo videos of doing Melandru, and other “group bosses” when people used to call me BS for telling them certain group events are soloable…
Love Orr…
Unfortunately, the loot drop nerf, the spawn cool time increased, and the advent of Fractals makes Orr a lonely place to be.
Why were people at Orr for end game? For some, there’s lore…
But for the majority of people I used to play with (and now are gone), we are/were there because:
Simple reason why it was popular:
Players are REWARDED for their “hardwork” in Orr!
Now? Most players stay in Fractals of the Mist. Simply for the same reason:
Players are REWARDED for their “hardwork” in FotM! While players in Orr get bored waiting for events to spawn, and when they do, get discouraged by the loot they get, and sometimes, they die a lot and lose money in way point and repair….
Bring back the old Orr…and it will be lively again….
Maguuma server. Just checked it myself sometime ago, it’s open.
It’s a game. Some mechanics works “logically”, some works because “it’s a game”. I mean, can you run and swim and run and swim and jump off the ledges and dodge roll and fire weapons that never ran out of ammo and fight without resting after getting hit and gear that can be repaired no matter how many times they break and that you can be revived infinite number of times?
Some things work “logically”, some work because it’s a game…
If you were at the Lost Shore/Karka Event at Lion’s Arch back then, you would know how bad that idea is.
If players have to deal with that kind of lag, and disconnection, and crash, and unresponsiveness, no one will play this game after just 1 day.
Of course, on the technical side, it’s easier to attack a “big problem” one “small piece” at a time….
Not all players have the same mindset. Whoever made that post generalizes that all players SHOULD have his mindset and therefore, shun the use of MF gear.
Unfortunately, some players play “the way they want to”, not dictated by build (i.e. glass canon, etc), speed (efficiency, etc), shiny stuff (costumes, etc) and just play because, well, the game provides them with amusement.
I don’t mind players who hate MF players, at the same time, I don’t mind players advocating the opposite. To each his own…
And if worries the players so much, go find a guild or friends with “same mindset”, whether playing to have a good time, or playing for efficiency, or for other reasons…
Happy Holidays to Staff!
As someone who worked extremely hard on one of the Orrian maps, I can tell you that DusK has the most accurate comment.
From a lore perspective, the risen continent was once a living nation full of all sorts sorts of people and creatures. Now corrupted by the undead dragon, most of them walk the land as monsters. But you’ll still see a lot of the sentient inhabitants mindlessly continuing on the tasks they performed in their old lives. Some of them farm and mine, others lie around and weep in agony.
The coral soldiers, on the other hand, are more direct servants of the elder dragon. They take a more active role in defending the continent, so you should see them patrolling, standing guard, attacking players, etc.
Heya Anthony, please don’t nerf Orr!!!
Sale = discount. Can happen to games, TV, cars, ref, aircon, books, subscription, toys, etc. etc. etc…..
I want one. How can I get one?…
If a content/area/zone/mob/whatever is too hard, skip it and just do other stuff. Put it in your to-do list. Once you outlevel the content, it’s easy.
p.s. insta-respawn is FTW! Endless farming till you drop!
There are various techniques for making content “hard”. Some are legitimate. Instant respawning is not, for the reasons I gave above.
Furthermore, content should be playable at level & should not require returning with a max level fully geared character.
I agree, and one technique is to outlevel them. Who says something is legitimate and something is not, is up to each and everyone of us. It is not legit for you, but legit for me. Instant respawn is legit to me, and again, because as I have said, I have tried them using any of my 3 chars (Thief, Mesmer, or Necro).
Sometimes, you don’t even need to kill mobs to achieve certain goals. A good example, Rich Ori in Southsun Cove is guarded by Champ Karka. Can you outlevel it? Nope. Can you avoid or “achieve your goal” using different techniques? Yes.
Not because I have provided one suggestion doesn’t mean it’s the only answer. I provided one, and you might like it, or in this case, you might not. “Hard” definition is different for everyone, I don’t find Skritt, those that I fought before, hard. I don’t even find them annoying. But that’s me, using any of my 3 chars (Thief, Mesmer, or Necro).
So something is hard to you, I gave a suggestion. Whether that works for you or not, is up to you.
p.s.
If you think instant respawn is hard, wait till you run into mobs that spawns “adds” even before you finish their minions. And if you fail to “work around” that kind of challenge, many mobs will cause you frustration on higher level areas…
(edited by DeathMetal.8264)
“Better chance” is a “play on words.” Say, if the rares/exotic/legendary used to have a drop rate of 1.00%/0.10%/0.001% then by making these drops to 100% will make them at 2.00%/0.20%/0.002% and that means “better chance”.
Why call it better chance? Well, Anet could have reworded something, say “they made a 100% increase”, and they weren’t lying. Heck, Anet can even say they improved the droprate by 1000% and you still get crap, and they will STILL be correct. As always, the devil is in the details.
I am not sure if those details are posted on the patch notes, or blog posts, but to check if Anet is telling the truth, look at “numbers” and don’t interpret their words the way you would have wanted it to be.
Good luck and have fun!

Unless of course it’s a Lv80 content, then you just have to play better. I mean, I have fought almost all Skritt (including those in the Wintersday event) and found none that hampers me from achieving my goal. And that was when my gears were still either blues/yellows (I am currently using Lv78 Exotic in full MF for everything I do including Fractals Lv1-10, the 10+/20+/etc needs better gear with agony resist).
Speaking this in PoV of Thief, Mesmer, and Necro btw…
p.s. insta-respawn is FTW! Endless farming till you drop!
Drops are nerfed. But I still go there and enjoy the lack of “competition” with mobs. I will just bring 5 friends (even just 2 players is enough) and farm to your hearts content. For more than 5-man team, the team should divide their farming route.
A good run can net you a pretty good penny. Remember, with good demand and less supply, you can pretty much command how you price the drops
So the more players that ignore that place, find that place boring/annoying/hard whatever, the better for our rag tag team
Team up with your guild, make new friends, or play during peak hours.
Also, FotM has pretty much gathered most old players from Orr, mainly because Orr drops are nerfed to the ground, and similar for DEs.
If Anet brings back the “old Orr”, it will be populated again like it used to be.
Hey you mr 23yo youn player, if you don’t mind switching server, you are welcome to join our guild. We are in Maguuma, and looking to get 30 active members at one time (Eastern PM time), and max of 60 members for a more “personalized” experience.
Guild Name is Aeon of Wonder. We have guild perks, and buffs.
Hi all,
We are looking to pump our ranks with nice and kind players. We would like to build a Guild that is not just a number (i.e. >400members) but a lively active guild of small circle. While such huge number is definitely a plus, this guild is not striving for that.
What we are looking for are normal players, both with normal skills and exceptional skills. As long as you can enjoy a guild where seemingly “newbie” questions are asked, or help is asked to get a “trivial” skill point or PoI, then you’re all welcome to join.
In short, we welcome all players of all skill levels, all character level, as long as you have good attitude.
The guild goals are:
Build a close-knit of members
Max 30active at Eastern PM time (12pm-11:59pm)
Max 60members, stretch goal of 100 but it may be hard to track and “be close”
Participation in Guild activities are encouraged, but not enforced
We have guild buffs and banks.
Hi, you are welcome to join our guild. However, we are in a different server. So if you are a-ok to move, then leave me a message.

There’s a merged thread about Orr:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Opinions-about-Orr-merged
As a lot of posters they say, it is doable, not annoying, fun, challenging. Of course, not everyone has the same taste so if some people loves Wasabi, others hated it with a passion.
Personally, I love Orr; the lore, the loot, the karma, the DE, etc. etc. But like I said, thread’s already been merged for feedback in Orr…
To farm more is one reason. To experiment. To explore various build and capabilities. Some likes to see how it looks. Various reasons actually…
meh on mes u solo it without even moving from the place she spawns and kill much faster.
Agreed, but if you are at ease and comfortable with Orr then it’s not an issue. Posted this because I read a lot of posts how jam packed the zones are, how hard the mobs are, how annoying they are, how you cant move from one area without being mobbed etc. etc. Also why I posted in title “many open areas”. So posted this to show proof, and what better way than to see in video…
This is a relatively old recording, done just after Lost Shore patch. Anyway, as can be seen on video, familiarity with the place goes a long way to getting around Orr. From 00:00 to till about 01:27, only two other mobs (aside from Broodmother) is able to “see” me. I was even “downed” and survived (though I have other recording that I never got downed, so just to show that it can be done if you know where to run…)
Gear:
Lv78 Berserker with Crest of Traveller Rune
Trinkets:
All greens with Magic Find rune
Weapon:
Lv80 Exotic Crossbow
HP: measly 15k ^^
Frost gorge is fun. Orr zones stink. Save the lore wise talk. Good luck doing any of the temples anymore with the majority of remaing players spamming for fractals.
Agreed, Frost Gorge Sound is fun. But unlike you, I also found Orr fun. Claw of Jormag is a decent event, with Chest at the end but I don’t like the waiting time for the boss. There are other DEs too and resources which is a nice touch.
However, for farming fun, Karma and quick coin turn out, I love Orr. I’ll skip lore, since you don’t want to hear/read that, but Orr maps (SoD, ML, CS) are so cool. A lot of DEs can be done solo, it may not be easy, but doable. There are events that are impossible to solo but then again, that’s the same for any other maps so it’s not an issue.
So aside from fast DE respawn, and chained DEs which gives lots of Karma, these events also produce lots of loots from mobs. Also, the resources (Orichalcum, Orrian Sapling, Omnom, Coral, Ghost Pepper, Truffle, etc) are just so much more than Frostgorge Sound. Also, Karma vendors for armors if that’s your thing, is also cool in Orr.
So for me, comparing FgS vs Orr, Orr wins hands down. Of course, like you said, it stinks and probably not fun for you, but Anet made sure there’s FgS and it’s all cool coz it’s impossible to please everybody (each has their own definition of what is fun and what is not fun).
For those like me who enjoys such fast respawn, DEs, and resources, Orr is paradise. The mobs are easy to avoid, and if you know your way, you don’t even have to fight all of the mobs.
Been doing Orr with 3 classes: Thief, Necromancer, and Mesmer. And all three are a-ok doing solo runs. I have also seen other classes there (Rangers, Engineers, Elementalists, Warriors, and Guardians) so I’m pretty sure they are doing a-ok as well…
So, I’m finally on my way to Orr. But first I go through Straits and Melchor’s Leap.
I have to ask though, what is the point of these zones?
I mean what were the devs thinking of when they made them?
It isn’t fun at all, just stupid.
The majority of events are for parties, hardly no one there or no one wants to do them.
Because the events dont get completed most of the WPs are contested so when we die it’s back to near the start.
Mobs all over the place and the respawns? omg. I killed a few in front of me and carried on forward only to have the ones respawn behind me and join in killig me.
I’m glad I’ve got past these 2 zones but I certainly am not looking forward to going to them again on another character, it’s just death after death
I think pretty much, a lot of replies have answered your inquiry: the zones/map is fine as it is and designed as it is.
The challenge with GW2 is that, a lot of early zones are stupidly easy. Zones from Lv1 to Lv70 are linear in difficulty. The Lv70 to Lv80 Frostgorge Sound is also easy, linear approach in difficulty compared to lowe levels. However, Lv70 to Lv80 Orr is a different story, and puts the player in alert mode. And it’s because you’re in the battle zone. “lore-wise” speaking!
But just stay around, keep your head cool, explore and consider the zone a challenge, a challenge you must beat. And soon pretty much, it’s easy and you won’t even notice it’s a challenge at all.
And kidding aside, I never knew Orr is “hard”, till I began reading players in the forum complaining about the map. I always consider “new maps/zones” challenging because when I was leveling, I usually am several levels below the zone I am leveling in except in Orr. And that’s just because I enjoy Spark Fly Fen a lot…
I checked YouTube for any similar guide and found none so I am posting this. It’s actually an old recording and uploaded a long time, but I kept it private for my own personal viewing. But I figure I’ll share it with the community since I saw the announcement…
Anyway, for those Lv80s, this might not be interesting. But for those still leveling, or leveling new characters and happen to be in Sparkfly Fen, this is a very easy Boss Kill and can be done solo for decent EXP, Karma, and of course, money…
Pros: Easy to do solo, rewards Karma, EXP, coins
Cons: No drops, boring after a while…
How to go to Sparkfly Fen:
1. Go to Lion’s Arch (can be done via Mist, or thru any Asura Gate from any Class’ Starting Location)
2. From Lion’s Arch, go to Bloodtide Coast (portal is at the Southernmost part of the zone)
3, From Bloodtide, either go to SE corner or SW corner for the portal to Sparkfly Fen
I recommend watching the Range Class first…

I can’t figure out why they’d nerf the results of one type of grinding just to replace it with another. It really doesn’t make sense.
Nothing beat the massive battles all across Orr to make it feel like you were really in a war for the fate of life on Tyria. IMO the old Orr DE runs were more fun than the November event.
Yeah, that bugs me a lot too. I mean, FotM is more of a grind/farm dungeon now. Anet could have just added FotM (and Lost Shore) and leave Orr events/drops untouched…
I hate going to Orr. There are Risen every three feet. I can’t even run to a node without trailing six to ten enemies to it.
Ruins of Orr is supposed to be riddled with Risen, Zhaitan raised it along with the undead. As for not getting agro, it takes familiarity with the place….
I understand why it’s more crowded than a Resident Evil game, I just don’t like it. As for familiarity, I have the situational awareness of a mango so that’s just not gonna happen. :P
Aw, but I love Mango. I feel your pain mate….some place is just not meant for some of us. Like me, FotM is not for me while others enjoy it a lot, I don’t like devoting a “set time” to get an FotM level. If FotM levels every 1 dungeon (and also allows not losing progress), then it’s all good to me. As it is now, I don’t want to derail others and stagnate their development just because I have to attend to real life thingy and I wish to leave the team. What’s even more worst, players getting DCd or crashing at the end of their “run”…
Well on Yaks Bend server there is always people in Orr all hours of the day, farming Karma. There was so much Karma farming going on, the events had to get nerfed by aNet, meaning they made the events to take longer for them to activate then before. It’s like they go out of the way just to anoy players for the hell of it. But it has not stopped the Karma Farmers. Well not yet it hasn’t but knowing how aNet roles they may nerf it even more.
I agree with you, except that I am one of those who doesn’t care much for Karma (I don’t shoot for legendary, if it comes my way, I will welcome it) hence, never mentioned Karma. If Anet further reduce Karma, I am ok with it so long as the frequency is not nerfed. I mean, Karma Jugs gives a lot of Karma…
Like what MisterEction posted said, the players doing events have a somewhat “form of culture” i.e. to help each other. Everyone knows each and everyone of the players contribute to the event. So it is only imperative that players help each other in events. The faster the “zerg” can complete an event, the better they can move on to the next, the faster they can earn loots (and Karma as a bonus)…
Good to hear your server is still pretty active in Orr btw…I envy you

TL;DR:
Love new contents that Lost Shore brings, but hate what it took away.
Please bring back the old Orr…
It used to be that Orr is a little livelier than it is now. Sure, there are players, but very few doing DEs. This means, that in DEs, less players = less mob (due to auto scale) = less drops. Orr drops has been nerfed, I don’t have data to prove it, but I just feel it in my guts.
I would go to Straits of Devastation, and Malchor’s Leap and there’s very few players doing events. Sure, it’s still fun, but I would love bigger group for better loots.
Cursed Shore, while I applaud Anet for driving away bots, it seems Lost Shore patch has driven away a lot of Plinx groups as well.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Lost Shore too, it’s got its place (i.e. less annoying mob, but it’s personal preference actually) with new resources and DEs. But DE’s are too far apart for my liking and there’s no sense of urgency compared to Orr…
Also, while I like the random dungeons in FotM, PUGs takes a while. And you’re also limited to 5-man team, which in turn, limits drops. What’s even more “annoying” (again, personal preference) is that the group has to do 3-4 runs just to “gain a level” and that usually takes anywhere from 45min to absurd number of hours based on the group experience and how easy dungeons are ( for example, Wisp is so hard when you get a team that does not communicate or has no patience).
Compare that to DEs (Orr or other areas), a player (or players) dropping off the event does not really impact the groups’ ability to continue. In FotM (or any dungeon), players has to devote certain time to help the whole team, in DE’s, players come and go. Sure, old dungeon allows players to jump in/out, but compare it to awesome DEs, DEs are way more flexible and forgiving for players who suddenly afk (due to real life issues), disconnected, crashed, lagged or whatever it is that disrupt continuity of play…
So, this is why I prefer old Orr DEs (and drop rates). Fast, fun, exciting, and lotsa loots.
Now, I can kill Champions solo (because there’s not so many players around), in full MF gear, guild MF bonus, MF food, and spend about 15min-30min on a champ and get porous bone.
All I can do now is run from place to place, check if DE is happening, and hope that a lot of players are doing it, and get frustrated to find either myself alone, or a couple of others.
A lot of waiting time now happens in Orr, where it used to be action action action (and part of waiting time is due to bugs too, i.e. event not spawning or not finishing)…

It is easy to spot a real Mesmer.
Ctrl-T…
If that doesn’t work (i.e. crowded or too late to do it), then…
Real ones usually run around, fake ones stand still…
If that doesn’t work (i.e. Mesmer stands still to mimic their copies(, then…
Real ones usually attack faster, hurts more…
If players don’t figure that out, they need to play Mesmer to know about how the class work, or they need to learn to play better against such tactics….
p.s.
My favorite is a Thief, but I play Mesmer and Necromancers on the side…
Thanks for the feedback mate. I will make public Broodmother soon =), just practicing how to do some annotations with YT videos. A lot of folks I spoke to before said I was just bragging around when I said I solo it. I told them it’s just a matter of “learning how the mechanics” work…I proved them wrong with my Arena and Arena Champ Solo videos already..
And I use Fraps licensed version…the free version only allows 30sec, used it for some time before jumping for a full version later…
Sharing my Orr run. This is the Champion that spawns at Arena near Plinx that has two Hounds of Balthazar…

And yeah, never got any good drops doing this several times….but it’s all good…
p.s.
Any other class can do this better since they probably have longer “range” attack…
It is… Seriously if thieves, ele, guardian and mesmers can solo Orr ANYONE can, you are just playing badly… Sorry but it is true… Hell my friend who only has two exotics that come from drops/one from mad king chest and the rest masterwork has no issues in orr.
It is a MMORPG, it needs some challenging content sometimes and I agree southsuncove is horrible to play without a party of THREE OR MORE… but honestly MMO…
People like you are delusional. How much is that "I have no problem exploring those areas vs I do have problems exploring the areas, but I don’t care cause I don’t want it to change.. There is a problem in those areas.. Too many mobs to close together and you can’t just pull one, because the whole darn freakin family will come too and the darn freakin dog. If you tell me you have no problem exploring those areas solo then I’ll call you a liar. And who are you to judge another’s game play.
Well, it’s supposed to have many of them Risen there, it’s a battle zone anyway. And I agree, there’s part of Orr that crawls with mobs, but there’s also areas that you can take relatively safely. It takes familiarity with the place to get used to the area.
And if players find that place too annoying/hard/whatever, there’s Lost Shore and Frost Gorge sound.
I personally like Orr for the mass mobs I can kill, for the many DEs. FG is too large, mobs are too far to farm, and the only thing interesting (at least for me) is Claw of Jormag event. Lost Shore has very few DEs for my liking. Some find DEs enough, so it’s a matter of preference….
But in Orr, go to Penitent Pass and there’s several events that can start. Plinx is also interesting, and so is the Champ Abomination. Of course, easy run with Tar and funny Rakkan chain. Scribe chain is easy as well. Broodmother is interesting, if you get caught with her attack, you get downed so you need to be very very careful =). If you get downed with many other mobs around, it’s probably your end ^^…
Mel, Balthazar, Arah gates, Treasure Guy, Clam Shell, etc….Orr = always in action
Orr and Lost Shore = nice good place. I use Thief, with Lv78 full exotics armor and MF rune.
It’s not cakewalk easy, but nothing is impossible. LS has too few dynamic events for my liking, but the resources are good to hunt there. Orr, always loved the areas being constantly attacked = more loot, drops, money, exp, and karma, what is not to like?

Will make Broodmother Solo public soon too =)…

Thanks mate. Shortbow is good if you’re in a party, but soloing Champion/Group Event is a bit challenging using Shortbow coz of, you said it right, unwanted agro. Shortbow is also good for normal mobs (Plinx!!!!) and farming and that’s my 3rd weapon. So you get it right, switching P/P and D/D is best, at least IMO, on this kind of situation.
The melee mobs has higher armor (no data, just my experience) and takes some beating to take down. But most mobs, in this video as well, with range attacks are pretty easy to take down. But range mobs have pretty good agro and attack range.
As for my armor/gear, I’m using Full Berserker Lv78 Exotic with Traveller Rune. I resorted to Traveller because of the 5% movement speed bonus on the 6th rune.
My D/D and P/P weapons have Rage and Luck sigils. My SB has crest of traveller for additional magic find. Add this with Cup of Lotus Fries or Omnomberry Bar and Guild Banner and bonus, it’s pretty fun farming at Orr…
My build is here:

And will make public Broodmother solo soon too ^^…
