The loading screens make the game unplayable

O.K. It seems it’s probably something with my computer but I don’t know what. Like I said it is a pretty decent computer and should not be taking this long to load. I really am at a loss.

Do you have 32bit or 64bit windows installed?
It makes a MASSSIVE difference.

64 bit

I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T processor and a gtx 560 graphics card.

Well something is definitely wrong with your computer then because I play using a Macbook Pro, Win7 64bit, Radeon 6570M graphics card, i7 2.2 Ghz processor, 4GB RAM and most maps load in less than 30 seconds with the exception of LA which can take up to 1 or 2 minutes depending on the time of day (server load combined with my internet being much quicker in the mornings).

I guess so, it has been acting up a lot lately. in fact it blue screened for the first time ever today, not sure what causes that but I guess it’s time for an upgrade.

Aw….time to do some checking. Good luck, hope everything turns out well for you.

Lv3 and Lv5 and the game is irritating? Are you playing with poor spec PC? Coz this game has really nice graphics.

As for leveling, this game is pretty easy compared to other MMO. I mean, you dont lose XP, or item when you die. You get XP for pretty much everything you do. You just tag and you are instantly credited for the event. There are many places to visit and explore, specially if you are pretty new. There’s Vista too to, and yes, gives XP too.

The starter area mobs are so freaking easy, I never died in this game till I reach Sparkfly Fen.

My suggestion is try to chug along till you are Lv10 and go to Queensdale (if you are not Human) and explore the area. Chat arount, mingle, or simply talk to NPCs. If you can;t get thru it, time for a refund.

Game got boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Yeah it got boring 6 months ago, at least. Keep coming back for a week or so to try and get into it but there is no real content to play.

An example, have you gone and fought those Lv80 Champ at Brisban Wildlands? Tried going solo against all dungeon/fotm paths? Fought WvW/Spvp naked? Played the TP market? Crafting without guides? Running to Orr, without help, with a Low lvl char? Or playing naked in high lvl events? So many things to do, some you mght find interesting or amaybe everything is boring..

What’s the point? Thinking of every little thing you can do to eke out a little more play time with this game. Just play something else that’s actually fun

The point? The point is it’s a suggestion, as a follow up to the previous paragraph that you quoted. And if you read thru the end of the post, I said what you said: move on. So what’s your point?

Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

If this game is sub-based, I would have paid $amount monthly x 12mos. So say, the monthly is $10 and I started September last year, that;s about 15mos, which is about $150. Now many sub-based MMO from big names usually sell their game (with a free first month included when you buythe game) for about $60. So that brings me to:
$60 + $150 – 10 (the first month) = $200 for the year (plus tax).

But instead, I paid for the box price and will continue to play for the box price for as long as I play this game, without having to worry that if I go on leave, my computer broke, or simply have no time to play, that I’m wasting my subscription.

I have played F2P Korean MMO way back 2006-2009, and boy, the amount of items you need to “play” the game is more than what anyone would spend in a sub-based game (I never bought into it though), but early in the life of that game, the items for sale are for looks only, but eventually, they sell the actual gear lol.

I played the initial WoW too during release, but…refunded my money. I can’t bear the fact that the game I paid for already would require me to keep paying just to continue playing. I understand about the server and stuff, but I was an old-school Single Player/Multiplayer gamer. I thrive in Battle net (free), family/friend LAN (free), LANfest (free).

So when I saw the Manifesto, and discussing about the payment model, I quickly tried the game. And during my stay, till now, it’s almost perfect. Sure, there are some misses, but nothing will ever be perfect because even if it’s perfect for me or perfect for others, chances are, the game is still not perfect because each and every player is different.

So I play what I like, skip things I don’t like. When the time comes this game got boring for me, I won’t be posting here blaming Anet about broken promises, or whining about how imbalance stuff are, or how loot are bads. I’ll complain about broken stuff, but nt enough to make me rage. It’s a game, it’s not my life, I do what I like in it, and leave when I get over it. No high blood pressure…just fun.

I always wondered how these “YouTubers” “got away” with posting such videos with music and clips, because as soon as I post a video of our guild doing Guild Mission, it is almost always flagged and I have to either remove the music or use one of the pre-set sound of YouTube, it’s ridiculous. Sometimes, I can get thru without the flagging, but that’s an exception, rather than the norm.

Problem with too much game, is that, too much. It gets you burnt really fast. Nothing lasts forever, even good things never last. And it seems that you reach your end, so I suggest you move on to the next, or take a break.

But if you dont like to move on or take a break, then just play the game without any goal, login do stuff that you may have not done yet, dont look at the guides (I stopped going to Dulfy a loooooooooong time ago) and explore. You might find something useful.

So many things to do, some you mght find interesting or amaybe everything is boring.

So if everything is boring, take a break or move on….wish you all the luck…

If your load time is 10min, time to start checking if you have too many services running for your computer to handle. I mean, if you have top of the line hardware, run as many as you can, but if not and you have aging computer, get your PC lean and mean thru cleaning registry, removing non-essential programs, defragment your hard drive, and maybe update drivers.

My PC is about a year old with 120GB SSD, and the only zone that takes 10s-15s to load is L.A….every other zone is like 4s-6s and I have everything in max settings (Win7 64bit 16GB RAM, 660ti video card)

What is your daily routine on Gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

1. Check if anyone needs help in our guild, chat around, if not…
2. Do daily [gathering, kills, etc]
3. Check if anyone needs help in the zone I’m in, chat around..if not..
4. Repeat step 1 till daily done

From here on, I can do L.S. if it is interesting, or maybe refine my crafting, or log out. It’s a pretty laid back approach, always fun for me, I don’t feel the grind.

Note: helping guildies/others can come in the form of dungeon, wvw, PoI, skill point, or clearing certain zones. Or it could just be answering questions, or sending some items…

I don’t see any problem with stacking…but I see a lot more problem if there’s colission detection for players, imagine the grief if melee players can’t tag at world boss, or having to switch to lesser dps range weapon.

Short answer: stacking is a-ok

What exactly do you guys do to keep interest?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

  • My/Our guild kept me interested.
  • Finding new players, like minded ones who loves how the game for what it is: an interactive art.
  • Living Story made me want to wait what’s next, I know that it’s a hit or miss, but still something to look forward to
  • I only have humar characters (5 of them), my long term goal is get all races. My next is Asura, followed by Norn, then probably Charr then Sylvarri
  • I may have to do the preliminary Story Quests for these other races, but not planning to complete them since it’s the same for all anyway but that keeps me going
  • I still trust Anet will do good things for the game

As for my advice to you, if you get tired of the game, and you feel no fun in this, then move on. I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m gonna do once I got tired of the game.

The biggest problem I have this armor is that it simply doesn’t live up to the quality I expect of a game. It’s not a stylistic choise, it simply is too far of what I expect a game should present to you. I can not support designers who willingly make you look like you’re working on a street corner.

A simple alteration to the armor would still leave it skimpy, but it’d remove the impure aspect of the armor.

Not buying it doesn’t solve the problem. This is not about me personally buying it.

The level of immaturity that is explicitely adhesive to the design of a showing underboob is one I do not wish to have in a high-standard game.
It also does not belong to the fantasy world that is Tyria.

Please keep this discussion civil and on topic.

The following attachment shows how to solve the problem without undermining the overall look and feeling of the armor.

Yet you didn’t complain about any of the male armor that is bare-chested with shorts on. I can’t take your comments seriously, sorry.

I actually find Female armor-less Sylvari a bit…ahh……not fitting for my taste ^^.

You never wrote why. You described it as immature; something fit for women on street-corners. But you didn’t write why- and why is that?

Like I said, because it doesn’t fit in the game.
Quality wise. Etiquette wise. Design wise.

Subjective is subjective. Personal taste, is just that, personal taste. Unless something is obscenely offensive, then it’s all good because what you like/hate doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone else.

I, “personally”, dont find that armor fitting of your complaint but that’s me. And if I find something not fitting of my taste, I usually ignore and let those who use them, well, use. Anet’s time is better spent making bug fixes, class balance, more guild functionality, keeping player interested with lore, rather than a minor cosmetic thing.

I think it’s an old known thing, but problem is, SSC is not as easily reached unlike other “neighboring” zones. Because SSC can only be reached via teleporting (or portaling via L.A.), not many players stumble over there.

So people who like to farm, they can group up and just start the run there. But otherwise, it won’t really pick up unless a Living Story happen to start over there. Remember the Settler buff back then?

My Legendary, one year+ in the making

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Since I’ve been playing my Guardian alt a lot I decided to buy the Torch Precursor since it’s cheap and the coolest looking legendary for the Scepter/Torch build I’m using. Now I can just keep hording stuff like I been doing till then while using the Precursor in battle.

I don’t usually use Torch on my Guardian, but now the you put it that way, I’m considering it too

Your story is exactly the same as mine, except I bought a few gems for toon slots and bank space.
Grats on the legendary.

Tnx. Good for you, I always wanted to buy gems but unfortunately, only few items in the store made me wanna buy. However, I do want to support the game, so I’ll probably buy a character slot. Problem is, it’s probably cheaper to just buy another copy of game (in terms of support) to use as char slot/bank than a character slot in-game ^^…

I’m like you OP, playing at my own pace. Unfortunately, I am also an altoholic and have 8 characters, 4 of them at 80. And I didn’t get my first 80 until at least 4-5 months after I started playing (BWE 2). I enjoy playing all professions & creating new characters. Since I don’t always play my main, but often goof around on level 40s, I’m not making nearly the gold I could be. I’m not poor but have no Ascended or Legendaries. I’ve often thought about investing some time into grinding away toward one, but then I get sidetracked having fun actually playing and I can’t bring myself to do it. Meh….

Yeah, it’s those “other stuff” that gets your attention away, which is actually kinda good since you dont get burned out. But man, 8 chars, that’s a lot.

Well done, could you share the exact “/age” of your character(s)? I feel like im far behind with my 927 hours of gameplay since release, seeing so many people with their legendaries, but im not even half way done getting my bolt…

My play time is north of 2.8k hrs played (~6hrs/day). But I’d say that about 20% – 40% of that time, I am afk while watching my favorite shows (night news, Walking Dead, Grimm, Person of Interest, Big Bang Theory, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, Haven, etc). TV shows compete for my gaming time A LOT of times, I would be logged in, but AFK. However, in the morning, I’ll be playing about an hour before going to work. Then after going home and dinner, I’d be logged in around 6:00pm till about 10pm, or 12am when Friday. I also play about 6hrs on weekends intermittently, in between chores and meals, groceries and what nots.

Congrats on your legendary!

For mine, I actually got a different precursor (The Chosen) than the one I wanted (Storm). So I sold the shield and bought Storm.

Other than that the only other thing I purchased on the BLT was was 60ish Powerful Bloods and 30 some Elaborate Totems.

Like you, I enjoyed the journey toward my legendary. I did grind for some of it at times, but it was because I wanted to. It didn’t feel like work.

I just got Rodgort’s Flame out of the toilet and will work slowly toward Rodgort. It may take years, but that is OK, it will be fun when I finally get it.

Good luck man, you are so lucky to get it. I saw one owner of that Legendary and it looks awesome.

-snip

Why do others get so lucky to get a pre haha. Gz though mate, two legendary is an enormous achievement.

-snip-

Going for the Staff? I look forward to hunt too, but I doubt it’ll be anywhere near “cheap”, you know how Anet is

just got my 1st precursor today with 2 rare weapons and 2 rare equipments

and its the colossu the hammer one. guess i can finally see a light of me holding one legendary after 1 year.

But, if you get the Juggernaut, what will happen to your precious dye?

One year?
Found a precursor 4 months ago, sold it on TP.
Then spent 2.5 months farming and selling ingots and planks = Legendary BOUGHT and obtained without the year long grief.

Lucky for you, you found a precursor. Like I said, RNG is not good for me. And my year long journey is not a grief

edit: I have to -snip- other reply, since forum won’t let me

My Legendary, one year+ in the making

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

From someone who is 95% the way towards completing my legendary..I can’t recommend this thread enough. Enjoy the ride and don’t burn yourself out..otherwise you’ll hate your legendary and the only joy you’ll get is relief from frustration, rather than satisfaction from completion.

Yeah, I have seen many posts about P2W or how they want only BiS (I showed in vid that I even use Lv78 zerker armor and starter underwater mask) to have fun. While fun is subjective for everyone, my TLDR is simple: I got my legendary, while having fun doing stuff that I want to do, without feeling burn out (though I rage from time to time, but not about the Legendary or grind or fluff).

snip

That is awesome man, I play very similarly, been striving for twilight, been playing since BWE and I’m so close, map completion the only bit left (it is so boring) got dusk from AC P3 last week, first pre and the one I need, what are the chances.

Gratz bro.

I wish you all the luck as well, yours isn’t so far behind. If anything, map completion was my easiest task (I have completed it with my Thief loooong ago)

snip

This guy is like my twin. Everything except the second-last point, I refuse to buy a precursor.

I have been tempted many times, and could have bought one before the disequilibrium (while there were relatively cheap, by comparison), but I’m a person of principle, and refused to cheapen myself by going back on one. Buying something that was someone else’s good luck isn’t the way to earn part of a legendary item. I want to earn my legendary every step of the way, I have so far and some gifts I’ve had for quite a while (two of them for over a year now) and I’m waiting to see what the precursor crafting is going to be like on my resources.

I wish you all the luck mate. I have waited for the drop to come, and the more I waited the price went up. I did put a buy order about 60g cheaper than was listed and it came thru.

Mine took like half a year. Didn’t really rush anything, just did daily stuff such as Dungeons (mainly CoF, and HoW), Orichalcum/Ancient wood runs and Dragons. Sometimes I farmed beast blood in frostgorge. This was before champ trains, dragon timers and such. I got a Precursor drop from chest though, which I sold and bought Spark for 150g. The good old days. I didn’t really work towards it at all till I got Precursor but I have a habit of hording everything I find. At this point I realized I have enough crap rotting in my bank to make another one without too much money needed. I’d recommend people to just do what they do and just save/horde stuff till you end up with a precursor somehow. XD

I am actually thinking of making a Twilight because I have enough Onyx Lodestones, enough karma, globs, coins, and I only need the precursor. So if it drops, or for some reason the price decrease, then I’ll probably make another and give it to my Warrior.

The point of a game is to have fun while playing it. Do you have fun not spending money on cool things such as armor skins, new weapons, backpieces, and other cool miscellaneous items? Because I sure don’t. I don’t want to waste my time saving up money like I do in real life… I play games to escape from real life, not have another real life where I save up money for retirement. That’s why I decided I never wanted to make a legendary: or even start one for that matter.

I’m going to give the opposite response to your original post: Play games the way they were meant to be played. Play for fun.

I didn’t use the word “fun” in my original post because that is easy to misinterpret. However, I did clarify that I do stuff that “I like”, even if it also subjective like the word “fun”, for me, it is clearer that what “I like may not be other’s like” . Also, in succeeding replies, I have clarified that I do/did have fun doing the stuff that I like.

As for skin, three reasons why I never bought skins:
a) Town-clothes only (for Town Clothers)
b) I never liked majority, except for Phalanx Heavy and Viper Medium
c) For the two skins that I finally liked, I only like “parts” of the armor. I can’t buy the full sets, pay the full price, for only one or a couple piece that I like in that set.

Also like you, I never decided to get the legendary at the early part of the game. However, my decision changed when Anet made the transition to Ascended. Having experienced how to make an Ascended weapon, if ever Anet decided to make a new tier, I at least am sure that my weapon will be always be BiS (I did explained this on my YT video description).

As for others’ well wishes, thanks guys

TLDR: Play smart = farm as hard as you can before ANet nerfs it, or flip items on TP, or gamble via Mystic toilet.

Looking at your post history, I see you did a lot of Orr farming back in the days, which gave you 200g in some 2-3 months so I get a general feel for your playing habits (plus you enjoy farming). Not saying that there is anything wrong with that, just pointing it out there.
Sometimes, people just forgot how hard they farmed, and are now are in cruise control mode because of all their accumulated wealth.

In any case, congrats on your legendary.

Indeed, I did say that on my list, that I did called Orr my home. I did FARM Orr back in the days, but for me, it never felt farming. I loved the idea of the urgency with Orr events, always popping up and swarming with mobs (which many say are hard and/or annoying) and it felt more about socializing (people back then, talks a lot in map chat while doing event).

I lost my way when FotM was released, funneling players to FotM and leaving my beloved Orr barren. As far as accumulated wealth, well, I won’t say I never got any but I only earned what most people earned doing events back in the days and compared to Frostgorge/Dead Eye/Scarlet/SSC+settler buff farming, my earning will prove insignificant (my guildies makes 100g per day at Frostgorge)…

Congratulations!

All i need to make my legendary is Dawn the precursor, i refuse to use the magic toilet, and i will never have enough gold to buy it from TP, so until they implement scavenger hunt or craftable precursors i wont see my Sunrise

Thanks, I succumbed to TP

haha that came to my mind when i road your post and saw your video :P

Well, if you dont feel anything (bored, annoyed, elated, suprised, enraged, etc) then you simply ignore the post and move on to another. Isn’t that one of the reasons why a lot of posts have a lot of views and no replies?

There’s nothing fun about making legendaries T_T

I understand some don’t like it, but I take my path in strides. In fact, I never planned to make a Legendary till Anet decided they’ll make it Ascended. That changed my mind, and I always think of saving up whenever I play, and focus on what I need and ignore my wants. So what I’m saying is, I played this game without being burnt out due to grind, disappointment, or rage (except on few patches I don’t agree) and only doing what I find fun to do…

TLDR: Play smart, save up enough, to prevent feeling burnt up, avoid raging and disappointment and maybe your goal can be achieved. Have GW2 been a sub-to-play game, and P2W, I would have spent more than $100 for the year that I played this game.

Just want to share my “achievement” of getting my Legendary. I know some of you have made more than one, I have seen them myself, and that’s awesome. Well, I finally made mine. Some of info I’d like to share:

  • I don’t farm AP
  • I do Daily religiously, just 5 of PvE daily, I don’t do PvP daily. If I have accidentally done more than the minimum required, that’s a bonus
  • I do Monthly religiously, just the minimum. If I have accidentally done more than the minimum required, that’s a bonus
  • I don’t buy Gems with real money, I only bought two Bank Expansion tabs
  • I did convert my gold to Gems when I needed the Bank Expansion
  • I don’t stay in Frostgorge and farm all day, nor do I stay in Queensdale to do the same
  • I do jump from World Bosses to World Bosses, but only when Guildies are on. If not, I just do what I want to do, which is anything under the Tyrian sun.
  • I don’t grind dungeons, nor WvWvW. I join some if an opportunity present itself.
  • I don’t grind L.S., though I do some of them if I like the content, but totally ignore them if I don’t like it.
  • I have never felt forced using the Gem store to make me accomplish some tasks, whether PvE, PvP, or WvW.
  • The RNG god has never been kind to me, I bought my Precursor
  • I have tried my luck at the forge a lot of times too, and called Orr my home way back release till Anet released Lost Shore patch and nerfed Orr. I got robbed of my home, and become a wanderer. I stay either at Hoelbrak but mostly at Rata Sum.

TLDR: Play smart, save up enough, to prevent feeling burnt up, avoid raging and disappointment and maybe your goal can be achieved. Have GW2 been a sub-to-play game, and P2W, I would have spent more than $100 for the year that I played this game.

Gem skin should be unlimited use - quick fix

I don’t understand why you got “forced” i.e you don’t have a choice but to buy. I personally always have a choice, I can choose to buy or not to buy. If I like something, and I really really like it, I still have a choice to buy or not to buy.

It’s no different seeing ad in the tv/net/paper or hearing it from the radio, I always have a choice. Sure, that new shiny iPhone 5S/C are so enticing, yeah that new Amazon Kindle Fire HDX is so pretty, how about the Moto X or that new Mazda CX5 2014 or even just that new burger over at my favorite food chain.

If I have the money and I need (not want), I’ll buy it. If I have the money, and it’s just my “want”, I can choose to buy it or ignore it. If I need something, but don’t have the money, I’ll find alternatives. If I don’t need it, I usually don’t pay it much attention.

The Gem Store is similar to, if not in itself, an AD. And you know why biz post ADs right? To get money from customers.

There have been lots of times where I want things, but I have enough self control that I never gave in to that. So, I was never forced, nor feel forced. I was enticed, but in the end, I always win: I never give in to temptation

===

As for reusable skin, I don’t have issue if Anet implements it, nor do I have issue if they chose not to. I’m pretty sure Anet will have a valid reason why they’ll choose one over the other

Trolled By RNG - Your Experience?

Well, RNG is RNG, so I don’t understand why someone can say they have been “trolled” by the randomness of things.

You buy a lottery ticket (or a few tickets) for $5, and then you won $200. You got encouraged, and bough tickets after tickets after tickets till you didn’t realize you spent more than what you’ve won. Is this scenario “trolled” by the lottery? I don’t think so, it’s just…..random.

Mine is about Teq scaling:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/Will-Teq-Scaling-Happen/page/2#post3084770

The thread goes something like this:
“Teq is hard”
“No it’s not, join <insert guild name>”
“But I don’t want to join specialized guild to do Teq”
“If you dont join, the only person preventing you from killing Teq is yourself. Teq is not an issue, it’s you”
And it goes on and on

And my Collboarative Dev suggestion
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Collaborative-Development-Request-for-Topics/page/13#post3071673

Not really sure if I have fav posts there except I believe my suggestions carry merits. Unfortunately, other’s feedback got the focus

GW2 Becoming P2W

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

There is nothing wrong with looking at something from a different point of view or seeing things in a different light.

Hopefully people can understand that just because I look at the game in a different way then the majority, it makes me no less right or wrong. It just means I have a different way of taking the information I am given and processing it.

I agree, it is not wrong if you see things in a different light. However, your view is not only different, it is completely wrong in and of itself. You can’t even counter my argument on why something that is subjective IS NOT PAY TO WIN aka what you thought is a WIN is actually a LOSE. Your only defense is you see that in a different light, guess what, you actually failed to see the light in this case.

Pay to win is when you bought something, that no one can deny, gives you an absolute and factual advantage over those who don’t spend the same amount of real money. If you still can’t see it, then good luck as I have already said my piece.

GW2 Becoming P2W

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Maybe this will clear up my original post in my eye’s P2Win mean’s buying your end game. This game the end game is cosmetic’s there is no super powerful end boss or any super hard dungeon that needs gear. I almost personally prefer for them to sell stat exotic sets on the Trade Post for 800gem’s. Then add all the skin’s into the game.

The average player can fully exotic out in less then a day. I am not saying add ascended only exotic.

That is even more subjective, not P2W. P2W is where you can clearly see that A is greater than B. If it’s subjective, i.e. different strokes for different folks, it doesn’t fall as P2W. In fact, your endgame is different than mine, totally subjective!

For simplicity:
If you buy an item that gives you 1000dps (and without it, you can only do 100dps) and you can only get that by spending real money, then yes. If no one can deny that something is better than another thing, it’s P2W.

If you buy an item that makes you think you look pretty, but others looks at you like a fool coz in their eyes you look like a clown, then it’s not P2W. (Personally, those toxic shoulder and gloves are super ugly for me, but super pretty for others, so in my eyes those who bought it made themselves ugly)

I have seen forumers says some Legendary are “ugly” (and even Anet improved some of them) and in that case, you can’t say P2W coz you got ugly instead of looking pretty (which in your case is, WIN).

GW2 Becoming P2W

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

I haven’t seen any of the replies so I’ll just post in response to the first post (not sure if OP made any other replies too).

Gw2 is NOT p2w. As far as skin means win? I don’t think so, skin can’t win you in PvE/PvP/WvW/dungeon. Also, as far as skin is concerned, BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER.

What that means is that, having a skin no one else has doesn’t mean WIN. In fact, some may consider it as LOSE.

However, P2W means more/better stat progression than other players. Even if you look like poop, if you can kill 5 players in 1 fell swoop because you bought something exclusive only thru real money, it means P2W.

Having “exclusive” skin that gets you killed with a whip of air is not P2W. Again, it is because skin is subjective, some likes it, others dont. In fact, I have seen posts of how ugly anet’s released skins are. In that case, that is definitely not a win, others consider those who bought it as loser: eventually, it’s P2L.

GW2 - 1 year after release

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

I have a few guild recruits, maybe about 6 to 8 of them I forgot. None seems to have raised the concerns you raise in the OP.

However, these are the things they mostly share:

  • They left for different reasons, mostly real life, then never liked the bots and bugs
  • They still love the game, if not for real life concerns, they would have played more. One is a carpenter who is thankful this game has no sub, and he can only play when there’s low request for carpentry and that’s during winter time.
  • Another one, a military, who came back after his tour, and enjoying all the new stuff he finds.
  • Ascended stuff seems to be almost always confusing for them, and some of them don’t have any idea about how to get to SSC
  • They found some of their “trash” items to be pricey and some they considered treasures to be cheaper now
  • They ask a bunch about wings, and shiney armor aka APoint gear

All of them still play, 3 of them been playing straight for 2mos since they got back. The others play regularly, not everyday, but that’s expected for casuals.

So I think each and everyone of us has their own preference, so people who are content, will love the game. People who are not happy, no matter the reason, will move on.

My LFG has no cooldown, that’s odd.

  • As for dungeon, make your own group and state clearly what you wanna do (i.e. Lv80/newcomers welcome etc)
  • You can do other stuff, A LOT of stuff here can be done without a group
  • End Game are Ascended, Fotm, Legendary, and Living Story. So you can skip dungeon if you feel you’re not having a good luck lately. Other than FotM, these end game can be done solo. You can do champ trains too if you want to.

Does anyone Do Teq (or any dragons) anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

The problem with Teq is scaling. The other mechanics can remain the same (use of turrets, group strat to defend batteries, etc) but Teq like other world bosses SHOULD scale to be considered by the general player base.

I asked around it before (and I personally experienced it as well):
You can only do Teq with 80+ people AT THE MAIN Teq event, all Lv80 and decently geared.

Unfortunately, a zone can only hold so many people. And at times, the zone can be full, but that doesn’t mean EVERYONE at that zone is doing Teq. This presented the main issue of scaling. Without proper scaling, it means that to do Teq, players have to rally ALL willing and able players to the event. Unlike other bosses that scale, Teq can’t be defeated with 20 people, not 30 people, nor 50 people.

Sure, a dedicated guild can do it and there’s this guild that do Teq at overflow. But that is a work around, pulling people from different servers at one overflow, and camp it and hope you dont disconnect.

That also doesnt help low-pop servers, or servers who dnt have enough pop at a certain time, and limiting players who can only play at certain time.

Teq need to scale, it can have a minimum scale (say 20), but he should not require 80+ or full packed zone to be done.

i can agree to this, but say, still have a timer? For instance, i dont think it makes sense that 20 people should be able to kill teq in 5 minutes, so make it so 20 can do it, but it takes a minimum of 15 mins for that small of a group to do it? idk, something to balance it out and still make the smaller group have to put in a little work.

Definitely, a timer is ok. Like I said, anet can keep ALL OTHER mechanics, except scale it well. Shatterer scaling is good already, with small people it can be done as long as all mortars are manned (did it with 12 people about a few times already). The timer is still there, and I have seen it failed with 20 people (all hitting the foot).

So long as our gear Lv80 Exotic gear/weapons gets insta LvXX, I could care less (of course, you can’t wear them because your char is Lv80 and the new item requires the character to be LvXX).

But then again, if Anet released a new level cap instantly making our current gear obsolete, I guess I can quit or try if the game is still worth playing.

The problem with your game for me...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeathMetal.8264

I will just copy/paste my older post here, so some of the post may be confusing (hard to edit using tablet). Here it is:

I believe I responded to one of the thread the OP made, and like I said, I support the Insta-80 only if Anet can do some sort of time gating or fix requirement.

One example I provided was, the player wishing to be insta 80, must have leveled a character to 80 the traditional way. This ensure that the player have basic understanding of the game: crafting, teleporting, where’s L.A., what is a dungeon, wvwv, etc. All the basics, from doing DEs, to completing hearts, to salvaging to forging.

Also, a totally NEW player, aside from having a Lv80, must have played his character for at least 240hrs (4hrs for 60days) to be eligible to purchase that Insta-80.
In HoM, players are all Lv80 anyway. So for those saying everyone doing an alt MUST be hand leveling it “the newbie” way to learn the class is missing the point because anyone and everyone can learn their class in HoM because they have full access to utilities and skills. Note: I said learning, not mastering. And even if a player has hand-leveld his character to 80, I have seen a lot of them not knowing how to cast their skills for the right situation. However, they do learn it, in time.

As for those saying exploration? Well, you can still do that, no one prevents anyone from visiting a new place unexplored on the new character. And because a new Lv80 is a new character, EXPLORATION is bound to happen coz all of the maps is not explored! The scroll is not about insta “world map completion”.

As for baddies: you can’t remove this. There will always be bad players, period. Will they improve? Of course, but they aren’t baddies because they’re insta 80.
So the point is:
1. Insta 80, only for those who qualify (i.e. hand lvled an 80 and/or met the minimum play time, and/or did a full dungeon, and/or did a 100% map completion)
2. Insta 80, isnt insta 100 map completion
3. Insta 80, will make vet players go right to the action: learn the new class (if they haven’t yet) thru maximizing traits and weapons
4. Insta 80, is an option, and Anet must make it an expensive option (3000gems-4000 gems) so players can’t spam alts or abuse this system.. There must also a time-gate, i.e. limit 1 insta 80 per month.
5. Insta 80 doesn’t make you a bad player, the players play their characters badly. And with teh time gate and requirement, the only thing making the player play the character bad, is themselves. I mean, if you have 240hrs (2mos or 60 days, assuming 4hrs game play everyday), players should at least grasp the basics of the game.

What would make you do a Chain’s PreEvents?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Each pre should increase the chance of your likelihood to get a better loot, for example, each pre you did adds a temporary MF and Karma boost. Remember the SSC buffs? those kind of buffs. +100 MF for each pre you do, +100% karma boost for each you complete.

There will be no changes in the loot table of the chest nor the loot table of the bonus guaranteed chest. BUT, you get a lot of temporary BONUSES that lasts for a while (say equivalent to the boss timer event like 15min). So if you have have completed the four (3 Portals each at N, E, and W plus final 3 portals at the main swamp), you get +400% MF and Karma boost that lasts you a good 15min. (or even more if needed) but gone when you leave the zone.

I really liked what Anet did to Anet SSC event on those temporary buffs, players tend to mow down all DEs.

Fractal levels above 30 to be reset?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeathMetal.8264

OK, This this exactly what Anet did for FOTM.

You guys really should think about this way.
What about Anet told you:
We are having a change about the char levels, the char levels would up to infinity level. We are going to change a new exp reward system which you need a lot more exps to level when you get higher level. And also, we are going to put your level of characters on leaderboard. However, because we think it might be unfair for the people just bought the game, we are going to reset all you characters’ level to level 0. So it would be fair to everyone.

What do you feel about this?
They just used fractal level instead you character level.

Another thing, hope this topic won’t be ban again.
I didn’t use any abused words, I didn’t has negative mood, and I didn’t post anything that unreleased.

Things I dont understand about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

I’m sure a lot of players already did a post like this… but I feel I have to do it anyway. I played GW1 for 7 years… and expected GW2 to stick with the same phylosophy (actually, this is what the developer said during the game development).

Here are the main aspects of the game that I dont like at the moment. Please dont reply just to say “so quit and we will not miss you”. I would not miss you too. Is just that after more than 8 years of GW I want to give my opinion (thanks).

1) Why an “infinite progression” system? The developer said this game was based on fun and content, not on farm and grind, but all the new updates just add new things to farm and new progressions… that are no more optional. Reaching the “max-level” requires hours and hours of farm, not fun. Farm should be only for the skin, like it was in GW1.

2) Why only temporary contents? The Living World idea is good per se, but most of the new contents are small and are just removed after few days. There are no permanent addition to the game. After more than one year there is a lack of interesting new contents to play with. In particular, players who like exploration are frustrated.

3) Why no expansions? The Living World content released so far feels like “just a filler”. It is extremely boring and quite “disconnected” in terms of Lore. The expansion approach used for GW1 allowed to add a lot of new areas to explore and new coherent storylines.

4) What about the personal story? The idea was nice (with room for improvements anyway), but after we kill Zaithan, there is no more personal story progression, and all the recent updates just ignored this aspect.

5) Is Anet scared of big events? The game contains some great events like the one in Harathi Hinterlands, with big chains. Most of the other events in the game are small and repeated every few minutes. There are big potentials in the Events mechanic, but I feel Anet should experiment more (for instance letting guilds conquer and defend outposts in PvE and letting the consequences of the events staying the world longer).

Now I dont understand why they called it GW2 instead of something else, considering that there are almost no game mechanics surviving from the first chapter.

The op is a good example of seeing only the wet spots after the rain. Broaden your horizon, and you will see. Many have already replied and countered your post. If you don’t agree, it is all good and maybe the game has reached its end for you.

Saying gw1 lasted you years is not an exact comparison. I played Starcraft for years, and abandoned sc2 after a week. I played Warcraft series for years, and I never lasted a month in WoW. I played diablo 1 for long time, d2 for shorter, and even shorter for d3. Point is, while the game carry the same name, they are Different games and may appeal to you more, but sometimes, appeal to you less.

In this case, gw2 appeal to you less.

Good luck with your future games, be it gw2 or others.

400 Free Gems for not playing...

I just read this on Reddit, a player that hadn’t logged in in a while was sent 400 free gems while that put the time into actually playing the game get the same reward for reaching 5k/10k achievement points. Perhaps I will not bother logging in just to do daily’s until an expansion and wait a couple of months for my free Gems…

400gems for a new player to play with? To get the server filled? I think that;s a nice a gesture from Anet.

No levels and Server repop

For PvE, repop seems fine beacause zones are created and recreated as each of them fills up (aka overflow). However, anet may have real difficulty in the technicalities due to database, etc.

Also, serverless totally removes WvWvW because there’s no more other servers.

Unless Anet can think of a different WvW, serverless is a fail idea.

As for leveling, for a lot of new players, it may feel like there’s nothing to go for. Leveling is one of “carrot” to go for, to give new players a goal so they keep playing and exploring. Giving a totally new player a max lvl, then letting them do content might actually be detrimental i.e. Lv80 should know the basics of the game, but now, everyone’s 80 and these newbie 80s are totally clueless and do not even know what to do.

Unless Anet gives a clear and easy goal for totally new players, Lv80 at the start is not a good idea.

However, a workaround is an Instant-Lv80 scroll for gems, and only limited to players who have at least one lvl80 done the traditional way or maybe other “gating” that anet may think of (i.e. if a players has completed the whole map, or completed personal story, or even completed all paths of at least one dungeon, or max out at least 4 crafting professions, etc etc etc)
