Not sure if you were here when there were bi-weekly updates. Many complained about them, some complain about temporary stuff, other complain the events are happening too fast, and while others said they’d rather see Anet do stuff for long term even if it takes them longer.

Now, Anet made work around for temporary stuff, but you will still see people complain about how boring these L.S. are because now they have to repeat them again and again. Then we also get announcement about HoT, and now we see complaint like yours.

Imo, no matter what Anet do, there will always be people like you who will not be satisfied. Anet needs to set their priorities, and the reality of life is, there will always be two sides to the stories, and Anet can not please everyone.

You do know there are many instances of that map right? I personally don’t join such, but it’s interesting that you landed on the chest farm map easily while I have to post/look in LFG for quite some time if I ever want to join one. Granted, I always have bad luck (playing since launch and still no precursor dropped for me).

Also, chest farm is a good alternative for gold farm if you are not really in the mood to play “seriously”. If you are bored, you don’t have to actually do the chest farm, either hop into the next non-chest farm map, or wait till the event kicks in again.

While I agree that blocker shouldn’t be able to send message to their block list, it will not address the issue of the OP: receiving abusive message from troll.

Consider if the incident happened for the first time:
1. Troll will just message the OP
2. Troll will block the OP
3. If troll want to send message again, troll will unblock the OP.
4. Repeat step 2 until the OP learned how to block the troll (which is the simplest solution requiring no code change)

[Suggestion] Please make a Dragonite Ore eater

Still waiting for it Anet! I thought the most recent patch would have already implemented this, but alas, it’s not.

I agree with some suggestions, to just sell a Dragonite Eater, maybe use Karma, Laurels, Gold, Merits, heck, any current “currency” plus Gold. It would be even awesome if Anet’s going to have the cost of Dragonite eater be payable with 1k Dragonite too.

Suggestion:

  • Make a new image/icon/decal for Dragonite Eater
  • Copy the existing Mawdrey/Star code
  • Modify it so that it eats Dragonite instead of Blood/Emp Frags
  • Add this item to one of the vendor at L.A.

Please tell me it’s not going to be easy to get, so that not every single person in the game will have one and ruin it. I am hoping its really hard to get and makes you work for it. Please ANET don’t ruin them. T__T
What do you think (or know) is going to happen with them.

I wonder why would everyone (or at least, many) having the wings “ruin” it? Sure, some of them will obstruct views, but if it’s not game-breaking, then it should be fine.

Bring Back Holy Trinity

Gw2 was my second mmo after Lotro (I was playing lore master there,support/crowd control/debuff you can understand what is my play style) and I experienced worse dungeon system here which are skip trash and push boss to a corner,dodge zerk,dodge zerk,dodge zerk… really no strategy…etc Whatever it is called “Holy Trinity” We need more roles out of just zerk.

NO! JUST NO. Zerk is not the problem, it’s the mechanics of many instances and bosses that can be modified. Tequatl is a good example, when zerk isn’t necessarily the best. However, Teq is also a good example of how much time is needed to change these instances. It’s been discussed times and time before, and those who like Trinity can go to other games to satisfy their needs. Those who stayed, we embraced (or at least tolerated) and others even applaud the lack of trinity.

I can’t imagine I’ll be going back to the same mindless waiting for a healer/tank/dps. Now, any player can make their own game. You want zerk only in a group? Make your own group and run your own dungeon. Want condi only? Works the same. Want a full one-class group, works too. Not all of them are optimal, but meh, changing the game to be optimal for Trinity isn’t the solution.

A Data Driven Approach to Dungeon Rewards

I agree that OPs post is too long, so for me, it’s TL;DR. So my questions (sorry if it’s covered)
a) Did you consider economy impact of your reward system? I saw some gold rewards up to 5g, how will this impact the normal players, the dungeon grinder, as well as those gem-2-gold converter (and vice versa)? In the end, will this result in gold inflation even more?
b) Did you consider hard core grinder and manipulator? Where in players will intentionally and openly (i.e. map chat, guild chat, 3rd party forum posts) advise to prolong certain dungeon/paths (say CoF paths) to artificially increase the rewards in future runs?
c) How will this affect casual gamers? If they can only do certain paths and if the rewards are dynamic, what if they always end up playing during the reward reset (i.e. always getting the lowest reward)?

In the end, I don’t really care how Anet changes the rewards AS LONG as it will not affect the economy. For example, if it rewards stuff that can’t be sold nor forged nor salvaged, in short, can’t be turned into another currency (gold or otherwise) then it’s fine for me. Your rewards drastically changes the gold reward for example (and maybe others too, dont know coz I didnt read all) and I am greatly wary of how this will impact the economy.

Dry top and the Megaserver

Idk if this is the right place to post this….. but…

I need recipes for the ambrite weapons.

Earlier today, I went to Dry Top, helped get it to t4….. realized my geodes were in the bank.

I left to go get them, and returned to a t1 dry top.

I couldn’t get back into to that t4 to save my life.

Just going to reply and explain you can’t really do anything other than the suggestions I’ll list. For example about this (joining party)

That is simply a workaround to the problem and not a solution.

Megaserver works THAT WAY (and in better form too). In the old pre mega, you have to be guesting in a server where certain map is populated, but that isn’t any better. Why? For example, if you happen to be in a server where people always do the zone you like (i.e. Silverwaste), you can:
a) be lucky and get in the zone, but you still cant guarantee a spot when you get back (same issue you had, or map full)
b) be unlucky and get in the overflow everytime (map full) you try, because all other players from other server guest to your server and the “natives” complain about the guests “taking their spot” (and you end up having the same issue).

So either Mega or not, you can do the following to save your spot:
a) Don’t leave the zone unless you absolutely need to
b) Be in a party
c) Bring your bank access with you, buy it at TP if you are in a pinch
d) In the case of Silverwaste, have the utility NPC at camp spawn the bank for you
e) Just help the zone to reach your goal

Anet does not implement anything that saves players spot in a zone. And even if there’s district thingie implemented, if you LEAVE the zone, if that district is full when you get back, you’re still out of luck. Maybe Anet can sell Gem item to save your spot. But the thing is, assuming you’re in that same DTop instance, you still can’t guarantee you will have T4 because for all you know, the zone just reset back…

Story Mode or Explorer?

It’s been awhile since I did Lv80 Arah Story, but at that time, I tried to solo it and I can’t because I need another person to put down the stone. Maybe it’s been changed now though, but I haven’t really tried. As for other Story Mode, I haven’t attempted other Story Mode dungeons yet.

Crafted my last 2 pieces of Ascended armor for my Thief. But I crafted them on my engineer, put them on my engineer, salvage the 2 exotics pieces of my engineer, took the 2 melandru runes and used them on my 2 ascended pieces.

Just to figure out that these 2 piece need to go on my thief, i salvaged 2 exotic for nothing and lost 2 melandru runes. kitten it. About 15 gold, not that bad, I just felt stupid.

since both Engi and Thief use Medium, just transfer the armor

I have been playing since launch, I only have 4 Legendaries and I barely break Lv50 at WvW. I only have one full set of Ascended Armor and still missing maxing out all crafting professions. I have yet to become really good in TP buy/sell, and still trying to get Rhendak’s Signet. And I still can’t solo any dungeon..

the one thing i DON’T like about GW2 is exactly what the OP sees as a good thing, scaling.
i don’t want my lvl 60 character to feel like a starter character, it needs to feel like i actually am stronger then the rest.
overleveling is a part of a level system such as this, scaling ppl down diminishes the joy and reason of levels and shows that they can just as much remove levels and start using a non-level system

i rather overlevel then be kicked down just because i am in a lower level area, i think that’s one of the reasons why GW2 feels so empty and distant compare to, let’s say, SW:ToR.
i level to become more powerful, if i reach a certain level it needs to matter.

Even with downscaling, low level zones are so freakin easy. If you have a class that has pets like ranger/necro, you can literally afk (aka you’re out and eating snacks away from PC) and your pets will kill everything except maybe champ and few vets.

The same for class with auto-heal like Warrior, you can leave your char and the mobs wont be able to kill you. And if you have retal, the mobs kill themselves.

tl;dr: scaling is fine, it’s been nerfed down too that if you’re lv80 you basically kill them without lifting your weapon. if you still have problems, just l2p.

I honestly thought “Watdafudge, too much text” but in the end, I enjoyed it. We played FF as well, and we found it not fitting for our taste so we left. It has good graphics and nice trinity thingie, but we played it for less than a week so can’t leave any valid feedback other than some personal observation.

So gear can’t have horizontal spread as well? kitten, I must’ve been playing World of Warcraft wrong all this time.

Not discussing about Gw2’s gear features or efficiency of each stat, but I wanted to point out, about what the OP’s view on gear. And I quote him (emphasis is mine):

OP said, he’s NOT into “horizontal” progression (aka he doesn’t like changes in just skin). And certainly, he doesn’t mean about various stat combination or efficiency of various stat combination, because we have several flavors now after launch (Settler’s, Assasin’s, Celestial, Sentinel, Sisnister, Nomad’s and maybe I’m missing one or two). So from that, since he’s not into skin and ignore the various other stat combinations, he can only mean a gear progression vertically. Because, if he meant Horizontal, then skin is part of Horizontal Progession, as well as effects (the new Lumi thingie), as well new Stat Combinations as well as being able to do L.S, (and how about those Halo/Horn and even the Kiel/Evon “buffs”). The OP never consider those as progression, it’s just a"reskinning" for him.

What you did when you mentioned the “after 80”, is that you only focused on “part” of that sentence, and ignore the context of that block of text. That is why I used the emphasis approach to highlight and see why the OP meant Vertical as opposed to Horizontal.

And actually, when Fractals first launched, it also launched the Ascended Tier. There was a vertical gear progression when “fractual” launched, and in that regard, he still failed to see it and missed it. Granted, it was just “rings” when Fractals launched, but a new tier higher than exotic was finally introduced into the game. That Ascended Tier slowly trickles down to Trinkets, Weapons, and Armor.

There are so many flaws with the OP, I’d have to make a post almost as long as the OP to list them. Staring with the wrong name for Fractals, then talking about gear progession like that’s something people came here for, and moving on to people dying in dungeons which made them give up.

If they changed this game to make it something you play, OP, I’d leave. What you want isn’t really what this game was designed to be. It was DESIGNED to be about skins, not stats.

What he said. 10+ dungeons death is due to lack of trinity? Really? Did you know people solo Arah now? People die in dungeon because of: lack of experience, lack of skills, lack of patience, and sometimes, they are just simply bad!

Gear Progression, bleh, not gonna touch that.

Skin? I always thought this game is about skin. I found this game very refreshing because finally, I can take a breath for a month (or more) and my gear are still RELEVANT. I am not FORCED to play everyday nor have to be forced to grind every raid there is, just to so I can say I have BiS.

I’ll stop there, because the problem with OP is simply because, this game isn’t for OP. THERE IS NO PERFECT GAME THAT FITS EVERYONE. Just find your niche, or find the one that fits your taste. If you change this game to your taste, I will be one of those whose gonna pack bags. I will not complain like you do, but I’m sure there will be those who will complain how the game change and just because it doesn’t fit their taste anymore.

It’s the reality of the game, and life. No one can please everyone 100% of the time. I love chocolate, and my friend hates it. I hate cold, and my friend loves it. Is one bad and the other good? Of course not, we just have different taste.

There is no way you can remove drama. Even in cities, there’s drama. What can you expect if it’s a zone with events and loots? Drama happens simply because we’re humans, and we have feelings and we’re varied. One person’s likes is another’s hate. The best way to minimize drama is to respect one another, and realize that the world can never be perfect, learn from it, improve if you can/want and/or move on.

TL;DR: Anything the dev makes, be it zone or events or QoL or whatever, someone is bound to hate/like it/them.

6k hour, almost 10 legendary, 2 year later the game is still almost the same with some minor changes. Even tho the game focus on cosmetic, majority of the good looking/ unique looking ones are lock behind gem store. This is no different than other f2w mmorpg except its pay to look nice.

You just prove the game’s worth its initial cost. Thanks for playing with us and may you find a new game worthy of another 6k hours.

If you don’t mind, I could use some of your tips and tricks. You can PM or maybe post a guide somewhere. Or just send me any of your gear/gold/whatever you can afford. Have fun and good luck

In a player driven economy, the demand of an item surpassing the supply generated by the playerbase will increase the value of it. While there are some items in these bags that are not based around cosmetics (the low drop rate of T6 mats), the price of these bags is directly relative to the cosmetic value that is being placed on them. While currently profitable, that profit is derrived directly from other players and their willingness to play a higher price. In essence, this is a transfer of wealth not wealth generation.
As far as this specific spawn of ambients is concerned, it’s definatly one of the faster ones to farm. As long as the playerbase is willing to pay for that item, and the demand remains higher than the supply, it will be profitable. This is not an exploit, it’s the playerbase saying “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”.

problem with that devs line of thinking when applied to this argument,

  • is it considers the playerbase as one entity setting the price, when an item is extremely rare, it is a small subset of the playerbase setting the price.
  • it also assumes you can farm the item, you cannot farm precursors, you can only kill massive amounts of things, or gamble.

Essentially, as is common, when things are taken to extremes, they create situations which are not consistent with how it works at normal levels.

the specific situation the dev was refering to was a high drop rate item, trick or treat bags, which anyone who wants it, can farm, and the quantity of the item and price puts it in range of mostly normal players. If some one buys a ToT bag, its not because there is no other viable choice, its because they want them now and fast and are willing to pay for it.
people have played for years, and gambled in the MF and failed, these people feel they have no choice but to pay whatever is asked if they want the item.

As has been said, due to the innate nature of random distribution, it seems to make random as an exclusive means of obtaining and item, a poor choice when the rate is low.

See my reply above, applies to your reply too. If you like everything to drop like rain, easily obtained, make everything so cheap or affordable to EVERYONE (and you can’t say, affordable just for you). And you can’t say apply this ONLY to precursor. If dev has control to make Precursor come easy, it just means EVERYTHING that used to be hard to come by has to come easy too coz then, we’ll see another player (not you) who wants what you/others have (but the drop is so hard he can’t get it).

I, for one and I see some too, would not like that kind of game. If you like that kind of game, Gw2 may not be for you.

And I’ll say for the millionth time that “Supply and demand is NEVER an excuse for anything in a game where the developers are capable of adjusting both supply AND demand as they see fit.”

Things aren’t the way they are “because supply and demand,” they are the way they are because ANet CHOSE to enter the items into a certain way that leads to a lower supply and/or they CHOSE to give the items features that would be highly desirable to a large number of players. Things are the way they are “because ANet chose for them to be the way they are,” and if the players have a problem with that, then the players have a problem with ANet’s choices and would like them to change.

Ehh, you mean to say, make Precursors drop like rain, like porous bone or whatever so common? Would you like everyone runs with legendary? Is that what Anet and the majority of the playerbase wants? And if Anet or the majority likes it that way, where is the data that says so?

Why would a player even want a legendary/precursor in the first place? For sure, it’s not JUST the stats. For skin? I have seen people say it looks ugly, so it boils down to preference. And if a LOT of people likes it, no matter if it’s a precursor, there will always be something of high demand and we get back to the same issue. Again, my example, other than the precursor, is the Mini Karka. It’s not even useful, so you like it to drop like rain too? I mean, for argument’s sake, you sound like you want the dev to make EVERYTHING drop so easy and EVERYTHING can be obtained, probably in a short amount of time.

That sounds like playing in a “private server” MMO type of game or a heavily modded game to fit “everyone’s taste”. I, for one, wouldn’t want that. If you like that kind of gameplay, I think Gw2 is not for you.

In a player driven economy, the demand of an item surpassing the supply generated by the playerbase will increase the value of it. While there are some items in these bags that are not based around cosmetics (the low drop rate of T6 mats), the price of these bags is directly relative to the cosmetic value that is being placed on them. While currently profitable, that profit is derrived directly from other players and their willingness to play a higher price. In essence, this is a transfer of wealth not wealth generation.
As far as this specific spawn of ambients is concerned, it’s definatly one of the faster ones to farm. As long as the playerbase is willing to pay for that item, and the demand remains higher than the supply, it will be profitable. This is not an exploit, it’s the playerbase saying “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”.

By that same idea, all items in the gemstore can be bought, in your own words, “from playing the game”.

Sure, the inflation has gone up, but players who save up and play the game, always have the option to get the items they “want” (thank goodness, it’s NOT about the items we NEED) by playing the game.

I’d sincerely like to know where this rumor originated. No endgame? Is a new story campaign, giant map (and completion), crafting, a new set of dungeons, obtaining legendary weapons, and 3 new areas of the map opening up just not enough for you?
Really, where did this originate?

There seems to be group who are vocal on the forums who suffer from selective amnesia and denial.

For example, since the game has released there have been quite a few additional dungeons added, at least they would be considered dungeon in most games. However many players selectively chose to deny the existence of them, they consider a new dungeon path to not be a new dungeon (even though it would be if it had it’s own entrance), and of course Fractals of the Mist (and each individual fractal) is also “not a dungeon”.

If you look at the dungeons page on the Wiki, there are 9 dungeons in the game (including Fractals of the Mists). Those dungeons containing 42 different paths. Of those 42 paths, 10 of them (23.8%) didn’t exist at launch, but you’ll still hear people shouting that no new dungeons have been added.

This is true for “End Game” content in general, there has actually been a fair bit of End-Game content added, but you’ll never get some of the people on here to admit it. When you point it out to them you get a bizarre response, generally along the lines of “That doesn’t count because it should have been there since launch”. It might not have even been imagined at launch, but it should have been there anyway, so is not new.

You need to understand that the Living Story is not ‘New Storyline’, any new areas added are not ‘New Maps’ and any new words bosses are not ‘New World Bosses’. I’m pretty sure that anything added at all – unless it comes in the form of a boxed expansion – wont be considered new content by some people here, regardless of what it is, and even if it does come in a boxed expansion, there will probably be a group that denies it’s existence because “it should have been there from the start”.

My advice, would be to just enjoy the game, and not try to “understand” these forums.

Not sure if sarcastic or not, but what is it you’re expecting for a Lv38? I don’t really remember getting anything when I was leveling other than a skill point iirc. So anything free given to me, is good. If I consider something given to me is trash, I’ll just delete it. Sure, I spent like 5sec deleting the item and I wasted 5sec, but it’s all good. I could have spent that 5sec afking anyway…

  • If you die in PvE, you lose a percentage of your gold and random item in your inventory
  • If you die anywhere, you lose XP, can actually level DOWN
  • If you die 3x within the span of 3min, you are unable to revive for the next 10min. Logoff will not cut off your 10min death debuff
  • If your item is broken, it can not be repaired nor sold nor salvage. Can only be destroyed.
  • Every loading screen shows random dev face (i.e. dat Colin smile)

Prior to this current feature pack, if I have my Account, Password and Auto-Play check boxes marked, I only need to click “Login” button on the very first time. Subsequent execution/double-clicking of the “Launcher” will auto-login and, also since Auto-Play is checked, will also put my game in the character select screen.

I know it’s a minor issue compared to other crashing and lag that others have, but this QoL used to be in the prior launcher and I really would like to have it back.

In the past, I would double click the Launcher, then head off to grab a cup of coffee and be back with the character select screen. Now, I always have to always click login as well. I know it’s a minor issue in the big scheme of things, but pls pls, would like to have it back since I don’t know of anyone who has complained about the issue of auto-login.

edit: btw, -repair didn’t fix the issue

I will just copy/paste what I posted there, most of which I still do, but I will edit stuff that may have changed from then to now. Here goes how I got to my Twilight:

TLDR: Play smart, save up enough, to prevent feeling burnt up, avoid raging and disappointment and maybe your goal can be achieved. Have GW2 been a sub-to-play game, I would have spent more than ~$240 for the two years that I played this game (assumption is $10/mo sub fee).

Just want to share my “achievement” of getting my Legendary. I know some of you have made more than two, I have seen them myself, and that’s awesome. Between Sunrise and Twilight, I made some Legendary which I sell for profit. Some of info I’d like to share:

  • I don’t farm AP
  • I do Daily religiously, just 5 of PvE daily, I don’t do PvP daily. If I have accidentally done more than the minimum required, that’s a bonus
  • I do Monthly religiously, just the minimum. If I have accidentally done more than the minimum required, that’s a bonus
  • I don’t buy Gems with real money, I only bought two Bank Expansion tabs, planning to buy gems with real money to show appreciation
  • I did convert my gold to Gems when I needed the Bank Expansion
  • I don’t stay in Frostgorge and farm all day, nor do I stay in Queensdale to do the same
  • I do jump from World Bosses to World Bosses, but only when real-life friends are on. If not, I just do what I want to do, which is anything under the Tyrian sun.
  • I don’t grind dungeons, nor WvWvW. I join some if an opportunity present itself.
  • I don’t grind L.S., though I do some of them if I like the content, but totally ignore them if I don’t like it.
  • I have never felt forced using the Gem store to make me accomplish some tasks, whether PvE, PvP, or WvW.
  • The RNG god has NEVER EVER EVER EVER been kind to me, I bought my Precursors
  • I have given up my luck at the forge
  • I seldom visit Orr, which I used to call my home way back release
  • I stay at L.A. now, because of easy access to forge, crafting stations, and personal bank
  • I haven’t bought any armor skin, nor outfit, nor any convenience harvesting tools, nor salvage, nor dye, nor skin, nor minis, etc. etc. etc.

This is such a dangerous precedent you are walking Mike, fans will now expect that for everything they are not happy about, that they will be expecting an “explanation” from you. Though you did mention that both the developers (voluntary) and your Community Manager Teams are spending time to communicate to the players, they won’t see this and they will only throw even more questions, blames and even more “misunderstanding”.

So, thanks for braving the current storm. I, for one, and several of my friends, are still very happy with the game. Sure it is not perfect, but it’s perfect for how we want to spend our gaming time.
