It’s the “normal” cycle of things. When an “old” product need to be sold vs new competing products, the old product must be compelling enough. The changes could be:
a) Cheaper price, you can see a lot of old game for bargain price compared to when they originally released. The same can be said for actual product, appliances, etc.
b) Better add-ons, some games when they get old, they bundle even the expansion for an even cheaper price. The same can be said for other things other than game, for example, a car could be fitted with better decals or additional car alarm
And it can be a combination of those above or even more…
So yeah, it’s a typical thing, nothing too surprising.
A little off topic, for taking better screenshot, hit Shift + PrtScr or Shift + Print Screen. GW will save a picture of the screen at your <documents>\GuildWards2 folder.
Actually, a lot of the part of the game in the early stages are too easy and spoonfed that many players expect the same hand holding style in high lvl areas. For example, in low lvl areas, when an event is on-going, you can see arrows plastered all over the map, where to go, which corner to take. However, on Lv50+ areas, those are gone.
I actually like how Anet did it, the low lvl is sort of a training ground, then you get to think for yourself on higher lvls. It’s like they teach you how to fish, and then you go fish for yourself.
However, some players never got past the learning part and actually expected to be guided all thru out, in all aspects of the game. Thinking for yourself is not considered a good value, but a waste of time (i.e. I can do far more things than trying to figure things out for myself). Maybe it’s good, maybe it’s bad. Personally, I like the idea of trying things out for myself and find things on my own.
For many, it’s the shinies. For the few of us, it’s the journey. I am not saying one is better than the other, just difference in preference, and Anet can probably make an option in the game settings to turn on/off guides.
For example, if the player feels he can remove the training wheels, then all the player do is untick the “Guided Mode” and if the player feels they need more guidance, then just tick it back on.
Anet has done it in low lvl areas, they can do it high lvl areas too (and other aspects of the game like dungeon, crafting, etc).
Please bring back the Log-in Screen from Beta Weekend #1. Back when a lot of us streamers (including myself) streamed Beta Weekend #1, we had the log-in screen up and streaming for hours before the servers were open and most of us, if not all of us all commented on how the log-in screen looked.
The music that played at the log-in screen, the concept art that scrolled on by inside the Guild Wars 2 logo, and the simplistic; yet artistic style of the log-in box was just beautiful. I don’t see why you guys had to take it out.
I know you guys want the authenticate system in so that people’s accounts are secure, but can’t you guys try to figure a way out to code in that system into the log-in screen? A few games already have the system at their log-in screen. World of Warcraft, Runescape, Neverwinter, etc.
I beseech you ArenaNet, please please PLEASE bring back the log-in screen that once instilled anticipation and excitement in me just by opening up the game and seeing such beauty.
Screenshot of the Log-In Screen is down below for those players who don’t know what I am talking about or registered for the game after the Beta.
The only thing I like in that screen is the option to login “offline”.
Someone already posted the way to do it. There’s really no hard SP, relatively speaking. I have done all SPs in Orr using: Thief, Mesmer, Elementalist, Necromancer, Guardian, Warrior, and Ranger. I haven’t done it as an Engineer, only because my Engineer is Lv29 but I’m pretty sure I can do it too if I put my mind to it.
And yes, all solo
….you just got to learn the tricks of the trade, some you may need to do a couple of times, others more than that, but most are easy, If there’s anything moderately hard, it’s the one at Cursed Shore guarded by Risen Noble Champion that can insta-down you. The trick there is wait for the Champ to walk away, kill all other adds (or go invis with kit, or skill, etc) then quickly steal the SP.
good art, tnx for this
I actually enjoyed it. By doing Clovers, I have been able to get other T6 mats, which is always a good thing. At the end of the 77-clover quest, you’ll see that you have acquired a lot of mats that would otherwise cost a lot of farming, gold, or both.
I actually missed forging the Clovers, because now, I am left with farming
. I would rather forge, and have T6 mats as a reward for failing to get a clover. I mean, a failure that rewards you? I think that’s pretty awesome…
Um, I don’t really understand it, because as a Lv80, I wreak havoc in starter zones. You may be doing something wrong if you’re Lv80 and having problem at starter zones..
There is already a choice. As you said yourself, you are a noob, and hence, may not see that certain build can be created to be more tanky, to be more group healer, or to be conditioner or a mix and match of that.
The great thing about GW2 is that, the player is not stereo-type into one part: healer, dps, tank. Anyone and everyone can do that, though certain class do better in some aspects than the others, which makes it good.
Play the game longer, play other class longer, get more experience with lots of build variety.
Players already have a choice.
You need someone to play with, chat with, converse with. Of course, some plays better alone, buy you have tried it already. Being in a large guild doesn’t make your experience better if you don’t interact with them.
You can also explore and do stuff that you find along the way, if you it interesting complete it, if not, just go look further. Talk to NPCs and listen to their conversations. Go look for areas you haven’t seen yet.
For example, I am just exploring the game again, and if I run into Emissary DE, I join and help others. I found that I got more enjoyment helping others than doing stuff for myself. I like chatting with members, new and old, and I invite them to our comfy guild. I started the guild with 3 people, and it is now close to 300 (though it has 70 active in a day). We’re mostly casual players and just chat when we like to, or do stuff together, or just let the players do what they like with no pressure.
Gratz, looks spiffy
Hello I rarly post on the forums for many reasons from bad spelling to grammer and such but posting today to give how I feel on something that I am noticing in this game.
When I first pre ordered the game and played in some of the closed betas I wanted this game due to some changes from other typical mmo games most being that being able to play a character how I wanted to build and play them.
Seems though that this is not the case it seems as reguardless of how I want to make a character if I am not willing to change or conform to how every other player wants it making a character my way now makes me alone and having to play alone, while not everyone is like this it seem they are in a big majority or at least more heard. So with this now if I want to stat a class build to be more oriented for grouping I can not do this because I do not want to stat or use gear the mass players in game want me to use to rush though stuff, and I do not like rushing and am someone who dose not like being told to use online guides because I like to trial and error learn things.
Well reguardless the devs really should look into this kinda stuff while I might agree that magic find I would not use it for dungeon runs and such but personal runs for more items, I do not want to stat all my characters power or condion damage maybe I might want something with healing or boon influanceing builds that work into groups.
P.S. This is not me telling those players to conform to how I want it either, but with the mass amount of players who want zerk stuff pretty much leaves me out due to I have no intrest in playing that build and if I do not have intrest in playing that build why should I even play.
It depends. If you play mostly with PuGs, then you may encounter that. If you play with a casual guild and make friends with them, it’s all about exploration and helping each other out.
No, you can’t change factions, but you can still mix and match armor and weapons. You just need another character advanced enough in the faction you want the armor or weapon from, make him buy it, transmute its looks (with a transmutation crystal) into a low level white item you can get from armorsmiths or weaponsmiths on main cities or starter areas, it’ll now be account bound, so you can just put it on the bank, grab it with the character you intend to use the skin on, and transmute its look again to a piece of armor or weapon with the stats you want, it’ll now become soulbound to that character. Only limitation is that if it is armor it must remain within the same armor class (as in, you can’t transmute the look of a piece of light armor to a heavy armor character).
What locoman said. Posting, to bump this a bit so others see it as well…{Hint: the white trans works even for non faction-related gear and weapon}
If I get stuck with only 3, I choose Quaggan.
Otherwise, I’d like to be a Centaur…
The only grind is for cosmetics, hence it isn’t required to experience any content in the game, hence you don’t have to do it to “get to the fun stuff.” Oh look, that’s a line from the manifesto. You don’t need laurels to get to the fun. You don’t need to farm CoF to get to the fun.
The grind is NOT just for cosmetics, thanks to Ascended gear, which they just threw into the game because of someone who panicked.
Also, with the grind-tastic mentality of the developers and the resulting base of players that are drowning in a long list of soul-sapping chores they are compelled to do, there is precious little left of “the fun stuff.” That’s what happens when all energy goes to the grindstones.
Thing is, I find some of the grind fun! In fact, I always wanted Anet to bring back old Orr where I can grind: events, loots, coins, and karma.
However, I don’t like gear progression grind: i.e. do stuff to get gear to do zone A. Then do zone A to death, to get gear to move to zone B.
I love some living story grind too…i.e. killing holos and getting lots of coffers. But I do hate some of them i.e. doing dragonball arena.
I like Anet’s stance right now, I love some things they do, I don’t like some of it. In the end, Anet still gives me fun stuff to do and I can ignore some that I don’t like. It’s win/win for me…
I don’t understand why the loot in this game is so, so horrible! You kill tons of mobs (incuding vets and champs), you do dungeons and FoTM and 85-90% of the loot is only JUNK or some useless thing like silk scrap or white itens. Why you guys nerf every place so freaking much? Why i can’t acquire some nice cores or lodestones or T6 mats and rares, seriously, all this RNG/lottery crap is disgusting!
Please, stop nerfing every place and mobs and stop forcing people to buy gems to convert to gold or to run CoF P1 9999999x times! Everything in this game rely on farm gold! ugh
Please, i’m so tired of getting junk from everything! I just want some money, just some!
Reserve judgement for next patch ^^…have fun and good luck…and I agree with you, bring back old Orr [drop rate, events, etc]
Logically, how is this possible to have both conditions on you at the same time?
It’s a game, logic doesn’t necessarily apply. I mean, you died and revived like how many times?

Again kudos for completely focussing on the wrong part of my post. So I will try to simplify it for both of you since you are so stubborn to focus on side issues.
As of level 50 Trahearne is in charge and my character is not the hero. Even if he wasn’t at the final fight itself, the fight against Zhaitan is so non-epic and the instance so boring that it kills any sense of accomplishment. And on top of that the dragon was killed, not with my skills or combat prowess…no, with a stupid cannon.
Say what you will, it’s non epic, non heroic and Trahearne is the main character in the story after level 50 or whenever he comes into play.
When you say in charge, meaning giving orders? You know that in many movies, not all heroes are the “president” or “leader” of their country/community/group/whatever-you-may-call-it.?
A hero could just be anybody, that’s the beauty of it. Not feeling like a hero, is different from being perceived as one by the others around you. The “noble heroes” themselves even sometimes never consider themselves a hero. Try watching “Accidental Hero” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104412/
Problem with players, not necessarily the player I quoted above, is that they have this perceived picture of how a hero should/must/could/would be. And when the game didn’t meet their own perception, the game for them fails or at least, a disappointment or both, or worst.
If you look at the definition of Hero (and female counterpart), it’s the main character of the story. Trahearne indeed play a part, and he’s a hero. However, my character, as far as my personal story goes, is a hero too. I mean hey, I lead most, if not all, of the invasion.

3.
the principal male character in a story, play, film, etc.
4.
Classical Mythology .
a.
a being of godlike prowess and beneficence who often came to be honored as a divinity.

(in the Homeric period) a warrior-chieftain of special strength, courage, or ability.

5.
hero sandwich.
Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hero
Judging by the definition above, my character in the game is a hero because:
a) I met item 1 (brave, etc)
b) I met item 2, the others looked at me as hero (i.e. the Pact bows to me when I walk past them, and cheered for me)
c) I met item 3, the story is about me. In the final fight, Trahearne is not with me anymore, it’s my own fight. Trahearne has completed his Wyld Hunt at that time.
d) I met item 4, I got powers, where many normal inhabitants of Tyria doesn’t have
(edited by DeathMetal.8264)
I don’t feel like a hero, but I try to do heroic things.
I just enjoy the scenery, do fun stuff, and make sure our guild lives up to our goal: a guild that operates on the idea of altruism
I hate the nerf that has been done to Orr. I love the old Orr, pre Lost Shore patch. After Anet nerfed Orr, I stopped farming.
But I have learned to move on, and find something else to while my time in the game. I decided to build a guild that aims to help members. It is not farming, but fun for me, coz I get to help old and new players reach their goal.
I like how they thinned out the mobs, but there isnt a whole lot of reason to go to orr and play the game other than ancient wood and orichalcum…and the ocassional boss chest, but thats it. I stay out of there. Pent/Shelt nerfs left Orr an undesirable place to be for lvl 80s.
Now it is up to the COF farm to get any sort of reward, and quickly.
Thinning out mobs, it was not really in issue for me. In fact, I like it when there’s lots of mobs. What I don’t like is tons of mobs that don’t even count for event tag (i.e. Mel vet Spider).
2nd week of game (maybe 3rd, I forgot), farming Orr mobs is fun and rewarding. Mobs drops coins!!!! And if you use Omnomberry, they become silver drop. And because not many are doing the events (except later on, they become popular like Plinxx), getting a group of at least 2, yes, only 2, provides ample rewards for a decent time.
Completing Plinxx, as an example, yields you a rare or 2 (if you are in full MF set, with food and guild buff) every 2-3 runs. Since plinxx back then starts every 5min or so, you can be sure to bring home a few gold after 1-2hr run.
And what about Grub farming from Champion giants? Anet nerfed it too, at one time, you get a “This content is disabled” or something similar as error message. People farm those, because it’s fun and rewarding for them. And you won’t see people staying in that are for a whole day, they just play, join and leave afterwards. They know, that due to Orr being difficult to many other players, that the event, and therefore rewards, will always be there.
Some may call it elitism, but it isn’t. It’s a case of L2P, when I got to the event, players are sharing tips: do it this way, to get more lootz and coins. But when Anet nerfed the events, players started getting dispersed, on the lookout for new farming spot, only to get the same nerf and nerf and nerf, and finally, either got driven away, or like me, find other stuff to do.
I don’t really like Anet’s stance on farm nerf, people are different, some find it fun to farm, some to explore, some to experiment, etc. But it is what it is….i can complain, or look for other game, or just enjoy other parts of the game. I chose the latter, how long it will last, I dn’t know, but so far, it’s been a blast.
Our guild started with 3 core members back in August. We added 1 more by September, but never really planned on making it huge, except pick a few more ingame friends to have fun with, and grew to 30.
But by Lost Shore patch, the guild withered down to the core 3 players. And it was then that Orr got nerfed to the ground. So it was then that guild-building became our focus.
Now, we have close to 300 members, and one of the oldest active guild in our server. We share our blessings to other players and smaller guild by hosting public Guild Missions every week.
Now, more than ever, we try to recruit those that need help….and make this game better for them
(edited by DeathMetal.8264)
With ESO coming out, this game will become another WoW wannabe with some gear grind but no raid content (lol). Anet chose to please the PvE crowd, and they should pay for it dearly.
Some of us like this game, why do folks have to be actively malicious and want it to die?
Stop trying to mess with our fun, and go play a game that’s fun for you.
Also, to folks above, I am a guild wars 1 vet and I like guild wars 2. So do the other vets I know. A few disgruntled folks on the forums don’t speak for all GW1 vets.
I’m a GW1 vet and I absolutely loathe GW2. I loved GW2 until ‘Flame & Frost’. It’s been nothing but garbage ever since.
Why would anyone not like the game after F & F is beyond me, now if you’ve said you liked it until November (with the introduction of Ascended gear) I can understand it, but F & F? Really?
I don’t like being forced to adhere to a gaming schedule to complete temporary living story content. I game on my own time.
I don’t like content of the living story. Steampunk Mole people, Steampunk Charr, Walking Cabbages, Angry Crabs, Flying Pirates, Ballooning Merchants…all very bland and uninspired.
BTW, ascended gear means nothing to me. I don’t chase carrots on sticks, do dailies or group with others for instances/dungeons/fractals.
I loved the game until F&F. I now loathe it due to the ‘Living Story’.
I don’t understand, if you are not interested with Carrots on Stick, that L.S. offers, why would it be any different with L.S.? If you play the game and ignore L.S., it’s still the same game in it’s core i.e. same legendary, same dungeon, similar events in Orr, similar events in World Bosses, I’m pretty sure same meta chain for interesting D.E.s
I like L.S., gives me a chance to explore something new, on my own time. And the new skin added, doesn’t bother me at all. I may not like some, but it’s personal preference rather than game issue.
They are good, so it’s a personal taste thing…
First off, I understand the message of the post: all classes are viable, except the 3 {M,G,W} outclasses the others PvE wise.
I don’t agree. I played all[most] all the classes, in fact, I have all classes to Lv80 except for Engineer. My thief got to Lv40s FotM even before Anet introduce the now flexible partying for FotM. Never got kicked, and often, helped the team in PuG.
My build is a tank build though, and while I did lose a lot of DPS, I have great support capability. Sure, my buff is actually a debuff to enemies (blind, bleed, etc), those helped ALL my party mates indirectly. And I can Refuge the team, if and when needed, can can take agro from mobs to take the heat away when others are revving.
Is my thief outclassed? Nope! It just shows that my class is different than the other 3, and it very very much different gameplay.
I play Ranger too, and I love to provide support if and when possible, with Spirits. And I normally call myself a Monk cause I main Sword/Horn and SB/LB. Again, similar to thief, I can provide Traps that is more like a debuff but I can also provide buffs (Spirits). Sure, the spirits die fast in boss AoE and that sucks, but again, proper placement of them, and knowing this class plays differently than the 3 you mentioned helps define the role.
As an Ele, I actually love the healing skills and the boon removal of this class. I’d say, this is my worst played class but I have seen other players handle this class quite nicely.
My point is, I don’t necessarily agree that the other classes are outclassed, just because they have lesser team buffs, the other class are just too diversified. Also, when you stay alive longer while doing decent constant damage, it’s more than enough as a support to the team, whatever your class may be. And it doesnt matter if you’re W|M|G, if you’re always downed and/or constantly dying, your build and class means nothing.
don’t worry, it’s just that kitten the kitten with the kitten.
so kitten it and soon you will kitten every time the kitten the kitten
I love Temporary Contents! Makes me wanna stay longer.
Point is, this game may not be for you but it is for me, so I don’t see why you post without a point, aside from just venting/ranting/whining/feedback.
Good luck with your future game, may you find the game that suits you…
I’m using the Claw of Jormag event as an example.
I know the event is optional — I’ve seen those words a billion times on this forum before. That’s my problem. Why would people do this to themselves for something that’s optional?
The moment I enter Frostgorge, I feel like I throw down my weapons and replace them with a shovel and plough. I respect the actual people that spend their time out in the fields in the sun, mud and the snow. But in a fantasy game environment, I find it extremely hard to believe anybody having any fun at all spending two hours fighting the same enemies for a tiny chance at getting anything good.
I’m here to play a game and kill me a dragon. I’m tired of feeling like the old couple in the painting below. I really don’t think this sort of “gimme your items” behavior belongs in a fantasy setting such as Tyria. It’s not heroic at all. The second you kill Zhaitan is the second you become an assembly line worker.
I hesitate to mention the Manifesto, but like, we’re totally grinding.
Having seen the word “optional” doesn’t mean you understand what it means. Even if you understand them, there is also a chance of different interpretation.
For example, you say you find it hard to believe people having fun killing Claw. I don’t really understand why you said that, so I will just assume (not saying you are) for lack of data, that you don’t find killing Claw as fun. That’s where your fault lies, you thought everyone is like you. Again, this is just assumption, basing on your post about having a hard time believing others are having fun, while you may not.
Another flaw is that, you may have assumed (again for lack of data), that the people doing them are the same people doing them 3hrs ago, or 6hrs ago, or 12hrs ago even. Has it occurred to you that maybe, new players just discover that place? Or that a guild is doing it as an activity? or that, old players coming back and having fun again? Unless you tag each and every player, and follow them around, you can’t be sure that they are the same people doing it again and again and again. Claw has a really long re-spawn timer, and there’s a big chance that next time it spawn, that a different set of players are playing.
I am not sure what you are looking for a game, you mentioned it’s not Heroic, but you are one, in your own personal story.

We have another run tomorrow night. Also, attaching here some pix of previous run.
Fellow Maguman and leader/co-founder of Aeon of Wonder[AoW]. While I don’t recall your name, we probably have bumped into each other in one of the world bosses zerg.
I wish you and you family and friends all the best. Keep up the good fight.
The negatives are too subjective, they aren’t even a negative for me. To add to your pro:
1. Awesome rewards [Wings, Pet, Gloves, New Skins, Back Items, Titles, Etc]
2. Awesome add-on [New Dungeons, SAB, etc]
3. New Characters [Brahm, Roxx, etc]
4. New Stuff to look forward to [Candies, Recipes, Cakes, Salvageables, etc]
I can list a few more Pros, but hey, you probably found my pro as “meh” i.e. subjective. So what I am saying is, to each his own. Unless Anet added gamebreaking things, anything new and free is always welcome to me.
Previews (not full walk thru) is good. I have nothing against Dulfy, but sometimes, you can liven up the guild chat and increase camaraderie if guild/players find things together for themselves. Sure, players can always use Dulfy as an option, but hey, I wanna make guide for my guild too and say that “I did it first and contribute to my guild, and to the community”.
Giving some site an exclusive first hand experience, for me is unfair for the masses. But hey, if it gives Anet the chance to retain the playerbase, then it’s cool. But I do hope that either Anet do PTR for all, or just outright deny others exclusive first hand access. Give everyone equal opportunity, encourage a lively discussion, explore new content, rather than just “Google dulfy <insert keyword here>”.
Hi all,
Tnx to those who have sent their appreciations to me. But I can’t accept your “gifts”. Rest assure that your post and symphatizing with me is enough, really, and your message is appreciated beyond words. I got several coffers from the community, and I have to return them
. Please don’t feel bad that I have returned them, because you guys worked for it.
I just got my kid a new steampunk skin (costed about ~26g) and she felt better now
. You know how kids are, just get them something to think about and focus on.
And again, the reason I post this is because I just want to check if it’s bad RNG or bug. And from the mail I got, and the replies here, it’s simply a bad RNG.
Again, tnx to all, your support, your replies, are enough to console me (and my kid)
…
Thanks for feedback guys. I just haven’t seen this bad luck before. I know a few of my guildmates opened about less than 10 and got it, while the max I heard of is ~2k before they got one, so I just base my chances on that, ~2k.
I am not sure if it is bugged or really bad RNG, but from this, there is less than 0.00025 chance right now. It is not for me, but for my child who happen to decide she likes to have a dragon skin.
Prior to opening today, she gathered about a stack, not many I know. After opening a stack, her sister sent her 6 stacks. Still 0 ticket, after 1,750 tries (imagine the clicks). I sent my 4 stacks (that’s a thousand). Still 0 ticket, after 2,750 tries. Guildies sent in 4 stacks (a thousand), still 0 ticket after 3,750 tries.
I went to TP buying 2stacks. 4,250 coffers, 0 ticket. And went to TP again, to buy 2stacks. Still 0 ticket.
I don’t know if it is bugged or not……but this is really bad RNG. I got mine after ~800 tries. Her sister got hers about ~500. We know it’s RNG, and sometimes you can blow thru thousands, and still got none.
Now I am trying to buy 4 more stacks at TP, and it won’t let me.
It is disheartening….so is it a bug?
(edited by DeathMetal.8264)
RNG box = lottery. It’s like buying lottery tickets, only with lottery tickets, the buyers are “hoping” to win, but they don’t complain if they lose (and spent more $1k USD during the lifetime of their gaming).
I don’t like the RNG box myself, but I understand why Anet is doing it. It’s the “luck of the draw”. If RNG box = guaranteed drop, some players may perceive this game as P2W (even though it’s not, because it’s just a skin). And even if no one perceive it as such, there will still be players who will complain, i.e. “why do some gets to spend money and get insta-skin while I have to grind to gold, convert to gems”?
Either way, there will always be complainers. I got mine after 865 coffers. Some of my guildmates got wings in just a few swing of their sword. Some got the ticket out of 2000+ coffers, others got their tickets (yes, with an s) in just 10 boxes.
I never got SSC weapon skin, nor the F&F weaponskin, so I am pretty happy I finally got a Jade Skin. However, I never complained when I didnt get any ticket for the SSC and F&F, coz those are just that: skins. It will not impact the way I play the game, nor my ability to enjoy the content.
Have fun…
Tnx to all who sent me messages and have joined. Some clarifications:

Why is AoW doing this:
I’m not sure why Anet removes that capability, and I can only assume that it is because of development time and cost.
I would just assume that Anet found out that, “Hey, why are we letting other players to join in a particular instance when all they do is talk to the Commanders? Doesn’t make sense.”
During development of game and initial release, letting others join just about all story mode must have been ok due to the size of team working on it. However, when you have a smaller team and working on a deadline, you sometimes have to revisit the “existing” features and check if it make sense to continually adapt them or improve upon it.
In this case, it is definitely an improvement to make instances solo. It saves development time, saves money (time is money), and meets the deadline.
I would like to see more of this actually. Solo where it make sense (all current single-player instance), and group-ability where it make sense (SSC Null instance). Making one and/or the other just because some players “want/need” the option is not good, coz every players have different want/needs, the option must make sense. While it seems “noble/kind/whatever” to give all kinds of options, with limited time and resource, sometimes it just can’t happen.
Colin, the problem with Orr is that you guys nerfed it to the ground on your early releases. Let me just share it chronologically on how I remembered it during the release:
1st Month: Awesome place, lots of players, helping each other with events (Zerg at Straits, and groups at Malchor’s, and pushing Arah at CS)
2nd Month: Players complain, the place is full of bot trains, players can’t even tag (Penitent and Shelt). But very viable drops of rare, Plinx is wildly popular due to drops (coins and rares) and starts every 5min or so. Broodmother, Balt Arena and Tar in between. This area almost has no bot due to Broodmother that can be pulled very far away from the spawn location. However, creeping issue about DR started to show, but still awesome.
3rd Month: A few bots remain, then the loot was nerfed down to the ground. Plinxx zerg is far and few, and FotM was introduced. Anet’s decision back then was that “griding those areas are not intended”. Would have been good, but Anet only replaced the grinding/farming with FotM. Events takes way longer to spawn, and lot of wait time happens. I mean, what gives?
4th Month: I personally abandoned Orr. The place I once call home. It was back then, if iirc, that Orr mobs has been nerfed too. Because a lot of players complain of how hard the place is, of how you can’t move an inch without being CCd by enemy (and I posted a video of how doable the place is, even soloing group events prior to nerfing the area). I ran with the other “zerg” to the new farming area: FotM till you drop.
I think whoever thought and designed the original Orr, was somehow removed from the “sustaining” team. The idea of Orr, as Colin described, is to be a harder content than usual, where players can be rewarded. It has achieved that goal back then, on the original release. But it was so nerfed down, either to combat bots, or to appease complaining players, to what it is now.
Orr is now a good activity place for guilds, to do when there’s nothing else do to (i.e World Bosses not spawning) but the meaning is lost. It was awesome to follow the lore back then, being part of the big group to push the fight to the temples. Back then, very few knows that each temples have “wide” impact to the whole Orr zones. That information was reserved to the most astute and persevering players. I remember I will run with a group to push the fight at Cursed Shore, starting at Caer. Of course, the whole chain will culminate with the retaking of Arah.
It was awesome, because along the way, you get a lot of coins, heavy moldy bags, other mats, and of course rares, rares, and more rares. You don’t even have to jump to world bossed to get your fix of rares.
And if players found Orr too hard as their “end game” zone, I will usually recommend Frostgorge Sound. It even has Claw (and no dragon in Orr maps, except for dungeon area).
Colin, you lost your track at Orr. Almost every event, your team will say “Orr is not included” or something similar. Every content, pulled players away from Orr.
This was my post 6months ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Anyone-else-miss-their-Orr-runs/first#post849030
TL;DR:
Love new contents that Lost Shore brings, but hate what it took away.
Please bring back the old Orr…
I want the Old Orr. If you can’t, then do what you are saying in your post. Make it hard but rewarding for those who persevere, for those who spend time to learn. You don’t have to make it hard for casual, just make it so that it is “rewarding” to do (rewards can be anything: from good drops, to decent money making, to making events fun, etc). Bring back in your team, whoever designed the old Orr map, and make sure that person gives his full feedback and insight in to what you’re going to implement. I loved Orr, but not anymore. If only you guys can bring back the old Orr…

Heya, you can check info about our guild at http://tinyurl.com/ctafj5l
You can message me or anyone of my guild member.
I can’t say 100% that our play style is the same, but from your first post, we’re pretty similar. I don’t rush content, except leveling because I would like to have vast things to do that will not be limited just because I am under-leveled.
There are many things to do in this game to keep from getting bored. Heck, I wait for my wife while she do her shopping and I can stay in the parking lot for hours without internet (i can read books, i can count cars, i can do people watching, and bird watching, i can sleep too if needed, or just listen to radio).
So…whie I have probably done a lot of the same thing in the game, I always have a goal (i.e. complete the 3day magic find in time for Karka event, get the Karma boost up for guildies, prepare their missions for the weekend, help others who missed the regular guild mission run, invite guildless players to guild to help them get guild buffs, etc)
alco is just bitter that the gift he recieved is not what he wants/needs. He spent 4k gems that equates to 10g back then, and as he said, cant get over it. Well, that’s life. Early adopters either strike it big, or lose big.
Thing is, no one forced anyone to buy gems in real cakitten is optional, and in this kind of game, using real money means the players are mostly liking the game, and showing support,
Back then, 10g is probably a decent chunk of money. I know, coz I used to see Legendary for sale for less than 300g (compared to now that it is in thousands). So 10g back then, comparing to now, is not really fair. Many players reach Lv80, more can farm, experience in game has matured, and making money has become easier for many.
I wish you well, what’s past is past…you can stay in it, but if you do, you will just get miserable, blame Anet for your own actions.
Me? I thank anyone who gives me a gift, after all, it’s the thought that counts.
If you want challenge, go against real players. Beating hard bosses, they become easy over time because you can predict the attack. Go against hard to predict foes: go against human players….
As for reward: seeing your name on top of that list as being the best of the best..
I’ve addressed this about 8 times.
Apology as I don’t really read all the replies, I just read the first post, and then replied. I did read back a few page up top when you said you replied already and fount this reply: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Elitism-is-ruining-this-game/2168776
I’ll go ahead and state my opinion on PvP again, since it doesn’t look like you read any further into the thread aside from the first post.
I don’t enjoy PvP. I’ve seen plenty of people playing in some form of PvP throughout my time as a gamer that would have done much better if they let basic AI play for them. Even people matched up at my “skill level” by the games ranking system.
Then you are correct: you are just a self-proclaimed elitist that isn’t really elite in any way, shape, or form. I can be a self-proclaimed elitist without being really elite myself. I even found many of so-called “elitist” in dungeon groups, and often times, they aren’t even really elite: died most of the time, died the first in the group, and when he left, the one that replaced him made us complete the dungeon. Now, I am not saying that self-proclaimed elitist are not elite at all, just saying, anyone can be a self-proclaimed elitist.
Again, my point is, if you really want to be the “elite”, let that title be bestowed upon you by the community, or at least, by Anet. You can post videos of how elite you are, how good you are in PvE, at the end of the day, it’s still PvE and it’s still just you (and your circle of friends) calling you “Pro”. Not discounting the “difficulty” of PvE, but saying, to be elite, the PvE must be extremely hard (only doable by certain percentage of the community i.e. less than certain percentage) or the player must be going against equally skilled real human players and not some “predictable mechanics”.
If you get your name here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/events/Authorized-Shoutcaster-Program
Then I will agree that you are indeed one of the real elites. Until then, you belong to majority of the group that may or may not be really elite.
p.s.
My post is not an insult, just stating that when someone call themselves elites, they may or may not tell the truth. They may not even know the real meaning of it. You may really be elite, only you and your friends know. But as far as Anet’s definition of elite, then you may not be really one. Good luck in your further endeavor. Anet says:
“We’re all really excited about the Authorized Shoutcaster Program and its potential to highlight the best PvP players and their strategies”
Note Anet’s term: BEST PvP players. For me, Best = Elite.

Easy to avoid such death: don’t go Geronimo in a swarm of Karka! Also, the screenshot of dead people doesn’t show the full picture: many low lvl players are undergeared to handle the content, they are upleveled to lv80 but their stat, gear, trinket, and traits are far from Lv80s….
Just dont go to any swarm of Lv80+….it can happen to a bunch of Risen too with many CC skills….
