I’m curious to know if you, the people that asked for vertical progression/gear grind/carrot on a stick, are happy with Ascended gear being added to the game. Is this what you were after? Are you now satisfied? Or are you disappointed? Are you now craving the next level of grind/progression/carrot chasing? Or have you already returned to whatever game it is you came from?

I’d really like to know if this was really worth damaging the game for me and many others.

Those that say Vertical Progression is necessary for a games longevity, then how do you explain successful games such as LoL, DOTA 2, GW1, DAY Z and TF2 (currently 10 x more popular than Planteside 2, even after over 6 years.) all thriving with little to no vertical progression?

I am not one of those who asked for Vertical Progression, but I could care less for ascended stuff. Heck, ever since the game started, and I had enough coins, I have been running on my Lv78 Exotic Berserker gear with Traveller Rune (yes, even before they become pricey). And I mean, ALL of my toons!!

Can I do dungeon with my Lv78 Zerker Gear? Yes
Can I do normal PvE with Lv78 Zerker Gear? Yes
Can I do WvWvW with Lv78 Zerker Gear? Yes (and I know I shouldn’t be glass canon in wvw, but just saying)
Can I do FotM and EotM with Lv78 Zerker Gear? Yes

Am I having difficulty doing all those things I listed above? Heck no
Am I being a problem that drags my team and slow them down? Heck no
Have I been kicked in PuG, be it in WvW, dungeon, FotM or EotM? Haven’t yet.

So what I’m saying is, as long as I can complete those I listed with my Lv78 Zerker Gear, I could care less whatever Anet throws out for the vertical progression people.

Don’t believe me?

So yeah, Ascended, won’t affect me. I solo Champions in PvE with my Gear

It is not Anet’s fault. As long as the patch hits within NA time frame, they are not breaking anything they said. There is always a change in time, some will always be advance, on time, or ahead in terms of date. You can blame the Earth for being round for that, you know, because we all have different time zones.

I don’t see any problems with this. The blue can be imagined as some sore of spandex, if it’s colored as a character skin, then it will be “revealing”. As it is now, the chars looks like they are from Avatar. So the blueish is part of the armor, that covers the body. Even the helm shows it, covers the whole face.

I’ve always wanted to try guesting on another server’s wvw to see how they do things. not to be a spy, but out of interest. I can tell different strategies among our commanders, and other servers have other commanders – like aggressive vs. planned out vs. defensive vs. brutal. EotM is a little like that.
(brutal would be “let’s stack here and slaughter that zerg that will pass by soon”)

I think if you guest (not transfer) to another server, and then enter WvWvW, you will still end up joining your home server.

mercury, like what Vol said, if everyone has it, then it’s not necessarily epic in terms of Gw2. Because this game has the same stat for all gear, you can never have “epicness” in terms of stats, but in terms of how limited that thing is. For example, a legendary Greatsword has the same stat as any Ascended Greatsword (in the past, it’s the same as Exotic Greatsword).

As for others who missed it? Then it’s the same for everyone else, it’s just the reality of life, that if you never get to something early and missed it, then you missed it. I have played since the beginning, but I personally didn’t complete ALL L.S. because I skip those that I don’t like.

However, I know many that have done everything to the letter. Is it right that I get the same rewards as them? The answer lies with Anet, but if I have a say, I would say no! I would say that, for this part, the “epicness” must be tied to how diligent the players did for the arc, sort of like Bronze/Silver/Gold for any event. Have you done the minimum required? You get Bronze, Boss Chest, and Mini Chest. Have you done better than minimum, but not the best? You get Silver, Boss Chest, and Mini Chest. Have you done everything to the letter? Then you get Gold, Boss Chest, and Mini Chest.

But again, Anet may give in to the “casual crowd” and give everyone just about everything, making the epicness of things, not so epic.

I’d be happy with getting 1,000 Gems or massive discount for some Gem Items (like 100gems, limit 1 per account, for a full set of armor).

A title wouldn’t be so bad, considering it’s the first season that has been going on for a year. But, will the title be limited to those who have completed a certain L.S. or even to just who have started to play the game recently? I mean, the title will lose its meaning if the only requirement is to attend the last LS patch, it’s just another title that you probably won’t be so proud to wear coz everyone else gets it when they visit L.A. and view the cinematic. So say, if the requirement for title is completing ALL metas from the past L.S., that’ll be epic, or Anet can give it more leeway and only require, say, the latest 4 LS plus any other 4 earlier releases.

The same goes for any other rewards, like Minis and special gear. I’d love it if players gets it because they met certain requirements, other than completing the final L.S.

For example, rewards can be something like:

Masterwork Mini – If a player has completed the latest 4 releases including the final chapter of Season 1

Rare Mini + Special Gear – If a player has completed the latest 4 releases including the final chapter of Season 1, plus any other 2 releases

Rare Mini + Special Gear + Title – If a player has completed the latest 4 releases including the final chapter of Season 1, plus any other 4 releases

Exotic Mini + Special Gear + Uber Title – If a player has completed ALL L.S. releases

I’d say just read it fast, no need to digest everything in one go, just skim and head on to play. If you find yourself stuck, just type “/wiki <topic>” (without the quotes, and replace <topic> with any keyword/s like skills), for example

/wiki dungeon

So play, explore. Any server will be good for beginners, but many will say you can never go wrong with the commonly brought 3 servers [BG|JQ|TC].

is "Stacking" the new "Tanking"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Zerg = New Tank

However, Anet made some changes to some bosses and mobs. For example, Warden 1, tank it in front and you’re not doing any damage. Same for Warden 2 to 4. So stacking working for one Warden out of five, isn’t so bad, is it?

Look at Teq fight too, while stacking works there, it’s not the only strategy used. Someone has to man the turrets and people have to scatter around during battery defense phase.

The same can be said for new 3-Headed Wurm, requiring players to keep moving around.

Stacking works most of the time and a viable and legit strategy. However, we see Anet making good changes to mechanics that somewhat reduces the effectiveness or at least force players into doing different style of gameplay

I have always considered WvW as PvE + PvP
PvP, because of the obvious
PvE, because WvW has Vistas and SP, even JP, that you normally find in PvE….

But this time around, it’s going to be very interesting to see how this new content will pan out. The Kite event back then was very entertaining, since you see a lot of skirmishes but later on, a sort of “cease fire” has happened as well.

So here’s hoping the L.S. will make EotM very entertaining and rewarding at the same time.

didn't need 2nd disk to install?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeathMetal.8264

There are services that do that. If you buy it from the Guild Wars 2 website, that’s what you get… a code. When you buy an MMO you’re not actually buying a program…you’re buying an account….access to a world.

The disc thing is a remnant of times gone by. I strongly suspect in another few years, no online game will ship with a disc.

I mean even consoles now have to download updates before you can play certain games. That trend is only going to increase.

A little off topic, but I like how Anet (and Blizzard, and other developers too) gives you download capability once you bought the CD. I mean, I left my Starcraft installer discs at my parent’s home but because I have registered my serial, I can download it and play the game. And it’s not even an MMO!!!

I am still old-school, for non-MMO games, I would much rather that approach be given to me. I have the CD which I can install and play offline, then, when the need to install the game somewhere else where I don’t have access to my CD, that I can still do it.

I don’t think that’s a JP. Players who did that, they called it Map “Breakouts”, specially when needing special tools like teleportation gun. Normal JPs don’t need extra utilities, except what you have on your toolbar, and what is currently presented on that particular JP.

I agree that not all contents are for everyone, one of the developers have mentioned that already. I also agree that certain events are made more harder, and I have no problems with that.

However, what I am proposing for, at least my personal favorite, is that an event should scale, with minimum players in mind. Colin have mentioned it already, and I have quoted his own words, and he knows the issue about it.

I do not want easy boss, nor do I want to take away the fun from large guild nor take away the challenge from the most dedicated players. However, what I would like to see is a boss that scales in difficulty based on the number of players, with minimum requirements that are achievable across all time zones, across all servers.

Even the most hard core elite players/guild, can’t do Teq in all his spawn time because even the most hard core guild can’t muster the numbers needed to kill him.

i dont think open world is supposed to mean easy, it just means its open to anyone to join and attempt. I think there is a place for teq and wurm, i also think there is a place for mari level difficulty events.

To be honest most other events in the game are a little too far on the easy side if you have the numbers. Many of the big events are just about getting a hit in before it dies, or standing around AAing.

I do think needing 80 players minimum isnt good, leads to overflow issues. I think there should be midrange difficulty content more often, and requiring fewer minimum players. After all groups of <80 people want something somewhat challenging/interesting as well.

I may have misword anything, but as far as I recall, I never mentioned nor want for an “easy” boss. I used examples such as minimum requirement being reasonable and achievable, that both “elite groups/guild” and “pug” can do, given the chance that these players spend the time and effort to learn and master the mechanics.

DeathMetal.8264

Anet released the new content for the elite hardcore crowd. That means the achievements were geared towards them. But that doesn’t mean the Casual player can’t participate. Our groups are very open to help new players with Teq or the Wurm. We teach them what to do, and they end up succeeding. All achievements are “achievable”. What matters is individual and group skill.

Also, each server has their own PvE zones. Your suggestion for a shared map is bad. Because a map can only hold a finite amount of players, you create endless problems if you have 100,000 players trying to get into a map that hold only 150. Shared PvE zones would mean players from one server might realistically never play with their friends or guildies on the same popular map. If you want to play somewhere else, you can guest to that server. If the server maps are full, you have shared Overflows. The current system, while inconvenient at times, is the best option.

I read about the Elite Hardcore, and that is why I point Anet back to their plan about making the game doable for everyone without the hoops [no matter how easy the hoops is like guesting and/or joining specialized guild]. I posted Colin’s own words, and that’s how I based my proposal. I also emphasize this:

20 Elite Hardcore players willing to do everything and anything they can do to complete the event [buffs, foods, summons, gear, practice, dedication]. This is what Colin mentioned, and I hold Colin to this.

As for the single PvE, I mentioned that overflow will still exist the way it is now. So at no one time will 100,000 players be playing at single overflow. The system exists now, Anet just need to improve it.

Proposed solutions:
a) Merged PvE zone for all servers
No change for for WvW players!!! The overflow system is already in place so it wouldn’t be overly difficult. When players log in, the server they login doesn’t affect PvE, only the WvWvW affiliation. The PvE server can create dynamic overflows as it sees fit, and all players join the same zones. This will solve, or at least alleviate, lack of population to other servers.

To solve the issue of World Boss events, DEs can be synced across all Oflows (which Anet has done already as well with Scarlett Invasion, Teq, Wurm, and Marionette). Other non-meta DEs can be independently start/stop per oflow.

b) Live Up to your promises, and Make World Bosses Scale Better, Make them Reasonable
Ok, if that proposal above is too radical, too hard to implement, or maybe costs a lot to do, then a simpler solution is make the world bosses scale better.

I have already stated several examples above: Shatterer, Taidha, and maybe some other world bosses too. Make the “minimum” requirement a truly minimum one, make these “open” world bosses, a truly “open” one: accessible to both new and vet players.

Make the boss require coordination, strategy, timing, and preparation. Make the world boss scale in difficulty, as numbers of participants go up. Make this world boss impossible to solo, even with 5 players, but make it doable with 10 or 15 players (20 will be pushing it though, but still better than the current full-zone requirement).

Scaling World Bosses to meet a truly “minimum” requirement with needed coordination, strategy, and participation, will make these encounter better rather than a simple: full-zone, gear-check approach. Limits elitism too (i.e. you’re bads, get out of the zone). No need to tweak any server, both small and big communities can do the contents, it requires no hoops to complete (no guesting required).

Why did I say Anet should live up to their promises? Colin himself mentioned this:
“Events scale in difficulty, so the more—or less!—players who show up, the number of creatures spawning and their levels change, bosses become more or less powerful, and so on, to help make the experience fun, regardless of the number of players participating. You never have one-too-many people doing an event and making it trivially easy; any player can always just jump right in and help out and have a good time, since the game takes them into account in balancing the difficulty. This also means years after the game releases, if you’re in an area where the population isn’t super high, you can still do all of the content available in the game world (except for the very hard group events), because it can scale down to single-player difficulty. One of my great frustrations with some of the event systems developed in the past is that while I loved the content, if no one else was around, I simply could not play it later in the game’s life cycle because of the lack of players. This frustration is removed with our scaling system on normal events.”

Source: http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/interviews/dynamic-events-dev-journal-colin-johanson

The above quote is what I am wanting to happen again, and Anet is (or was) well aware of this situation, where low pop server can hamper a player’s access to content.

In summary: make World Bosses doable with “minimum requirement”, but not diminishing the need for coordination, strategy and active participation (i.e. no afk 11111).

If I have to choose, I’ll go for Anet living up with their promises. They have broken their promise about Ascended, and this “full zone” requirement is another. Players are already disgruntled with Anet’s direction making a full turn around and I am afraid that if Anet continue to do this sort of events, that it will turn away many of their fans.

For the community, if you support this, pls say so and +1 my post so that Anet will see it. I am not asking anything NEW (except for proposal 1) that will be game breaking, nor will it impact any current guild or server.

If you don’t support it, and have a better suggestion, pls share.
If you think I am wrong, let me know, and provide a constructive feedback.

However, if you’re just going to say “meh” or simply say “your suggestion is bads” (or similar remarks) without any recommendation , then I will just ignore it and will report that to moderator to make sure we sanitize the reply to be those that pertains to the topic and will not add unnecessary clutter to the discussion.

WARNING: WALL OF TEXT
tl;dr: Pls make events’ requirements reasonably “achievable”

First, I just want to say Thank You, for the awesome game. I have been a long-standing player since the start of the game, and have enjoyed it so far. I do have some gripes, both personal and others shared by some in the community, but I seldom whine as I always believe that there’s no perfection in the world. Gw2 is not perfect, but it is perfect for the way I want to spend my free time. That being said, I would like to appeal to how you guys develop new and challenging contents.

Revamped Tequatl and new Wurm at Bloodtide
My biggest gripe on these world bosses is not that they are difficult but rather, the minimum requirement to defeat them is “very high”. I have participated in them, and they did require coordination and knowledge of the game. I have completed and killed Tequatl, and all I can say is that, the encounter is awesome.

So, what do I mean by “minimum requirement” is “very high”? Simply put, to defeat these world bosses, Anet mentioned that a minimum of 80 geared people are needed

Source: http://dulfy.net/2013/08/31/gw2-pax-anniversary-bash-coverage/

However, to ensure success, a full zone is a definite must. And oh, not only that, full zone of decently geared players who knows how to dodge, how to use all their skill at the right time, and to properly follow the instructions to the letter. Not to mention, there’s no room for failure (i.e. failing Battery defense in Tequatl even once, means defeat).

These events are open world, and correct me if I am wrong, open world means these events are accessible (and doable) to all players in the open world, no matter if they have a guild or not, guesting or not, as long as they are in the area and willing to spend the effort to learn the fight. These open world events prior to new Wurm and revamped Teq fit the bill quite nicely.

For example, in my server, if we don’t have enough people doing Shatterer or no one is handling those mortars, we face failure and defeat. However, we don’t need a full zone to defeat Shatterer, we just need a coordinated team for that. The same goes for Taidha, I haven’t seen 5 people defeat her, at least, not yet, and yet, for 10-15, she’s doable but can still fail (depending on randoms and how geared the others are), and 20+ gives more leeway for success. Fire Shaman is actually a good example too, assuming the players fighting him are not all Lv80, he does pose a good challenge.

Moving to Wurm and Teq, now these new world bosses, just doesn’t fit the bill of being open-word, mainly because:
a) A full zone is needed, which negatively impacts low pop server and also time-of-day participation
b) Fully geared players are needed, which negatively impacts starting players

To further reinforce the idea of what my gripe is:
If a group of 20 or so players are skilled enough to complete the content, then the event should be doable and not merely rely on 80+ players to dish out the necessary DPS to kill the boss.

Maguuma is kind of weird. At prime time, you hit oflow after oflow when trying to do world bosses. Me and select friends have given up doing events at Maguuma since it becomes a rat race similar to any champ train (difference being you jump from zone to zone), which kills the fun for us.

That is not what we enjoy, we love the idea of jumping to events without the pressure of being the first few to get in the zone before the boss melts in seconds.

Maguuma however, lacks players during US daytime. I have only played a few times during US daytime, but I did complete some world events solo like Commisar, Maw, and FE.

Please fix this. I hate when I’ve fallen and there is nothing to attack while my health goes down. Instead of waiting for imminent death your health should recover since nothing is attacking you.

A clear l2p issue. Read up on skill descriptions, also learn how to use the proper skills at the right time. Button mash works for Zerg, but not good for tactical and strategic gameplay.

Many have probably said it, but skill 4 when downed is self heal. It is a channelled attack. Depending on class, skill 3 usually is a back up heal I.e ranger and guardian (but not Warrior). Skill 2 is your defensive skill, and skill 1 is your downed attack skill. Any skills from 1 to 3 will cancel your skill 4 if it is on going.

I am not sure how EotM will function, I will assume EotM is PvP-type map/zone based from what I read at the original post@
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-edge-of-the-mists-a-new-map-is-coming-to-wvw/

And since Scarlet LW, which has been a PvE “thing” so far, will be happening in a PvP-type zone, I can see foresee many who might get killed in the PvP area complain about the nature of the game.

But Anet is…Anet. They have a vision, and this might be something they think is fun, and I personally am looking forward to it myself. I haven’t stepped foot in WvWvW for a very long time (last serious run I did was back when there were Orbs) so this might give me a reason to revisit the place.

What’s your thoughts on the PvE content (so far), being placed in PvP zone? Good? Bad? Meh? Boo?

TL;DR: I want Anet to do a reasonable boss that does not REQUIRE a full zone just to be able to complete the event. A world boss that scale from min of 10-15 players to max allowable of the zone.

My feedback for Open World PvE is that IT SHOULD BE AN OPEN WORLD PVE, that can cater to both smaller and bigger population.

I don’t mean, a world boss that can be soloed, I don’t mean world boss that can be 2man or even 5man (we have dungeon for that), and I don’t mean world boss that requires NO strategy nor coordination at all.

But what I mean is a REASONABLE Challenging World Boss, that caters to both smaller and bigger server and/or guild. This will not affect how TTS (or any other server) works, however, this will have a significant POSITIVE impact to the server and to the community in general.

I repeat, I am NOT against TTS nor any specialized guild nor any big/full server out there. I could care less about people getting first skill or whatever. However, I care that players, who logs in at odd times, or at server with low population, can take on a world boss. Guesting, and forcing an overflow" is a work around and NOT a solution: it is a band aid approach.

Going to the “reasonable” World Boss, I would like to see a boss that requires a minimum number of players that scales up or down. That minimum number could be anywhere from 10-15, and maximum is the zone cap.

A world boss that requires a FULL ZONE, is not a good design, as this result in players “forcing an overflow” thereby removing the chance for other players (specially new ones of playing at odd times) to miss the event.

As some of the TTS members said, they have to deny application, that simply means that the world boss is not working as intended, because even TTS can not guarantee a kill when there’s no players around.

What I want Anet to do is make Teq and Wurm (and future World Bosses), a reasonable boss. One that does NOT require 100+ players, however, a boss that presents a great challenge both to low pop and high pop server and/or guild.

If Anet can meet that, then the world bosses truly meet the meaning of “OPEN WORLD” event, because both the new and vet players can join and play the game. I believe Colin mentioned something around the line of “players can jump in and out” of an on-going event. Wurm and Teq definitely don’t fit that category.

So TTS or full server, good job for you guys. But for those of us who just want to encounter this world bosses without needing to rally 100+ players, nor game overflow, nor guest in high pop server, we request a reasonable boss that scale.

So if Anet designed this, we will see that:
Players will not need to guest, or limit guesting for this kind of events
Players will not hate each other in different overflow, nor will they dread that they got into oflow, because they still have a chance.
Players CAN STILL join big guild, no impact to them, they can do what they do
Players CAN STILL guest at full server, no impact to them, they can do what they do
Each server can just focus on, well, playing the way they want
Players can still boast or share their success or world-first or whatever
Players, both new and old, vet or newbie, can join the event without hesitation
Players still need to coordinate with each other

All in all, I see only positive things if Anet can properly scale events

TL;DR: I want Anet to do a reasonable boss that does not REQUIRE a full zone just to be able to complete the event. A world boss that scale from min of 10-15 players to max allowable of the zone.

Liadri Vs Teq & Wurm

This will always be a challenge for “Open World PvE”. Liadri is similar to an instanced dungeon or instanced Personal Story, meaning, only you controls the access: i.e. start and end.

For controlled access, players still have access to dungeons and FotM. But again, for OPEN WORLD (keyword: open aka public), I agree with you, that Anet should at least consider the chaotic nature and lower the failure rate, aka, be more forgiving for mistakes. Because if this continue to happen, players will just “game” overflow to make it their “instance”, which defeats the purpose of the event being OPEN, meaning: for everyone else.

I can’t understand how anybody could say they enjoy LS plot. Its characters just pop out of nowhere and are completely random. Take Kasmeer. She pops out as a random Bikini Babe sunbathing with Lord Faren, then it turns out she is actually a major character in the LS. I think the fact that we have a Barbie that claims her dress is an illusion and she hangs around nude as a major character says a lot about LS quality.

I think the quick trailer resuming living story does a good job at underlining how bad the plot is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLACdViok5I

Dredge&Evil Charr Lava alliance attacks!
Electric Pirates attack!
Phyrexia attacks!
Oh wait, they were actually all led by a random Sylvari named Scarlet! (at this point you’re like WTF it makes no sense)
Krait&Evil Sylvari Poison alliance attacks! Also let by that random Sylvari!

Yeah, what’s next? Centaurs&Evil Asuras Grass Alliance? Skritts&Hyleks Dark Alliance? Grawls&Bandits Ice Alliance? Jotuns&Ghosts of Ascalon Earth Alliance?

The only LS part I liked was the first Karka attack, where an ancient and unspoken race awakes.

I think your first couple of sentences and the last one contradict with each other.

Answer:
Yes, it’s coming to an end. If you haven’t learned about it, the arc is going to end soon

Colin Johanson: Due to the size and scope of the final four story releases in season one, the next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished. Once the story has completed, we’ll go into much greater detail on what’s to follow, but for now we want to focus on making sure our last four episodes shine.

Orr Empty

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Just copy/pasting my old post and reply to Colin. In case it is not clear, Orr zones were my favorite. Link to old thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Any-plans-to-bring-players-back-to-Orr/page/3#post2249754

Colin, the problem with Orr is that you guys nerfed it to the ground on your early releases. Let me just share it chronologically on how I remembered it during the release:

1st Month: Awesome place, lots of players, helping each other with events (Zerg at Straits, and groups at Malchor’s, and pushing Arah at CS)

2nd Month: Players complain, the place is full of bot trains, players can’t even tag (Penitent and Shelt). But very viable drops of rare, Plinx is wildly popular due to drops (coins and rares) and starts every 5min or so. Broodmother, Balt Arena and Tar in between. This area almost has no bot due to Broodmother that can be pulled very far away from the spawn location. However, creeping issue about DR started to show, but still awesome.

3rd Month: A few bots remain, then the loot was nerfed down to the ground. Plinxx zerg is far and few, and FotM was introduced. Anet’s decision back then was that “griding those areas are not intended”. Would have been good, but Anet only replaced the grinding/farming with FotM. Events takes way longer to spawn, and lot of wait time happens. I mean, what gives?

4th Month: I personally abandoned Orr. The place I once call home. It was back then, if iirc, that Orr mobs has been nerfed too. Because a lot of players complain of how hard the place is, of how you can’t move an inch without being CCd by enemy (and I posted a video of how doable the place is, even soloing group events prior to nerfing the area). I ran with the other “zerg” to the new farming area: FotM till you drop.

I think whoever thought and designed the original Orr, was somehow removed from the “sustaining” team. The idea of Orr, as Colin described, is to be a harder content than usual, where players can be rewarded. It has achieved that goal back then, on the original release. But it was so nerfed down, either to combat bots, or to appease complaining players, to what it is now.

Orr is now a good activity place for guilds, to do when there’s nothing else do to (i.e World Bosses not spawning) but the meaning is lost. It was awesome to follow the lore back then, being part of the big group to push the fight to the temples. Back then, very few knows that each temples have “wide” impact to the whole Orr zones. That information was reserved to the most astute and persevering players. I remember I will run with a group to push the fight at Cursed Shore, starting at Caer. Of course, the whole chain will culminate with the retaking of Arah.

It was awesome, because along the way, you get a lot of coins, heavy moldy bags, other mats, and of course rares, rares, and more rares. You don’t even have to jump to world bossed to get your fix of rares.

And if players found Orr too hard as their “end game” zone, I will usually recommend Frostgorge Sound. It even has Claw (and no dragon in Orr maps, except for dungeon area).

Colin, you lost your track at Orr. Almost every event, your team will say “Orr is not included” or something similar. Every content, pulled players away from Orr.

This was my post 6months ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Anyone-else-miss-their-Orr-runs/first#post849030

TL;DR:
Love new contents that Lost Shore brings, but hate what it took away.
Please bring back the old Orr…

I want the Old Orr. If you can’t, then do what you are saying in your post. Make it hard but rewarding for those who persevere, for those who spend time to learn. You don’t have to make it hard for casual, just make it so that it is “rewarding” to do (rewards can be anything: from good drops, to decent money making, to making events fun, etc). Bring back in your team, whoever designed the old Orr map, and make sure that person gives his full feedback and insight in to what you’re going to implement. I loved Orr, but not anymore. If only you guys can bring back the old Orr…

Working as intended. Remember, in those activities, random players end up in random instance of activity. They all have different skillsets and way of playing. However, more know that it’s a PvP area, and will try their best (even, as you say, they are losing anyway) to do their best to thwart others from winning?

Also, who are you to say that the losing players to just give up (well, you said not to use CC). I mean, never give up right? The only way to win in a contest, is to never give up, even if all hope is lost.

And no, imo, you are not a superior player (whether you said/implied it or not).

Who's excited for 2014?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DeathMetal.8264

I’m always excited to see new stuff. If that stuff turned to fluff for me, then no prob and will just move on. I mean, look at SAB, a lot seems to really like it but I was like meh, boring.

But I won’t badmouth something just because it didn’t fit my taste, I’ll still look forward to something new and check if that time around, that it’ll cater to my taste. If those I like falls to most players’ hate list, then their SoL.

I never hated Scarlet, but I never really paid attention to her story. If she comes, welcome back, but if she really ends next year, then so long and thanks for the memories. I love those cinematics at the Kessex Hills, and I love the tower design.

However, I do hope that Anet scale Teq and make him doable, and lower the required number of players to make the event successful rather than requiring a full-zone as a minimum requirement.

I also hope Anet brings out more guild management features and tools. More home-instance customization, more dragons, Orr revival, more guild mission types, provide alternative way to get Ascended armor, finally provide scavenger hunt for Pre, fighting minipet for non-Ranger, non-Necro class that players can train and level, allow guild to non-server tied, provide guild halls, and more…

Outside of Gw2:
I have yet to play Heartstone. I got invited to close beta, and I wanna try it out.
I look forward to EQNext + Landmark
I am honing my Minecraft Server Hosting skills, learning Amazon’s EC2 as well
I am starting to learn Minecraft Modding
I am on a kind of wait and see for Diablo 3 RoS. At one hand, I hated how D3 turned out, but I wanted to see how it all tie up together.
I have yet to play SC2:HoS, even if I have my CE, I never got time to play it.

Guildwars 2 is BEST for 2013, not necessarily best for new releases. TTH compared Gw2 to both past MMOs and current/newly released MMOs of this year. I’m just copy/ pasting/quoting what TTH mentioned in their article and I bolded the emphasis:

The process of determining our Best MMO of 2013 really began many months ago. As each new game world came to life, we couldn’t help but weigh its strengths and weaknesses against what we consider to be the best virtual world currently available to gamers.

Just saw it on reddit, however, I am not familiar with TenTonHammer website.

Quote:

When it came to selecting our Best MMO of 2013, there was little debate amongst our writing team. We all agreed that Guild Wars 2 remains the industry leader and is the one MMO that we all consider to be most worthy of our biggest award of the year. While the core game is still one of the best we’ve seen in recent years, the team at ArenaNet has continued to impress us and turn a lot of heads in the industry with its unprecedented series of Living Story updates.

Not only has the PvE in Guild Wars 2 continued to evolve throughout the year, but ArenaNet has left no stone unturned through a series of regular improvements and refinement to both competitive PvP and the massive World versus World system. It’s for these reasons and many more that Guild Wars 2 was selected as our Best MMO of 2013, a title held by the game now for two consecutive years.

After more than a year of GW2...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DeathMetal.8264

DeathMetal.8264

Just copy pasting my old reply from some old thread, Gw2 is not P2W

P2W is where you can clearly see that A is greater than B. If it’s subjective, i.e. different strokes for different folks, it doesn’t fall as P2W. In fact, your endgame is different than mine, totally subjective!

For simplicity:
If you buy an item that gives you 1000dps (and without it, you can only do 100dps) and you can only get that by spending real money (and NO OTHER way other than real money), then yes. If no one can deny that something is better than another thing, it’s P2W.

If you buy an item that makes you think you look pretty, but others looks at you like a fool coz in their eyes you look like a clown, then it’s not P2W. (Personally, those toxic shoulder and gloves are super ugly for me, but super pretty for others, so in my eyes those who bought it made themselves ugly).

I have seen forumers says some Legendary are “ugly” (and even Anet improved some of them) and in that case, you can’t say P2W coz you got ugly instead of looking pretty (which in the case of those saying getting gem skin means WIN).

Cosmetic might be one of the endgame offering of Gw2, but cosmetic is subjective, and if you get ugly, you lose instead of win.

Ascended Armor/Weapon can be achieved via normal play, sure it will take time, but players have option to speed up (Gem to Gold which IS VERY expensive) or take the normal way. Imagine the Gem-2-Gold as “special delivery service overnight shipping” and normal playing as “7-10+ business day shipping”. If you buy stuff from a retailer, you still get the SAME STUFF, except the delivery is faster if you spend more cash. Both shipping will result in getting the SAME item (Armor/Weapon, etc) except those who went special shipping get theirs a lot faster.

So G2Gold = very expensive, in the end, they still get the same stat/look of item that players grind. It takes longer, but, the g2g never won in stat….

Another example is my real experience getting legendary. Those who paid real money to get theirs, got their legendary like in 2-3monts of the game’s release. While it took me a year. but in the end, their legendary looks the same as mine: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/My-Legendary-one-year-in-the-making/

I agree with some posters. Those posters who hate this game with a passion, and noteven playing the game, should just move on and shouldn’t even post here.

However, if you just dont play anymore coz of lack time, post here, join the fun.
If you also have great suggestions or feedback, or would like to share constructive stuff, then pls share.
Or if you see something broken that needs fixing, post away.

But if you’re like a bad Ex-girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/whatever who feel scorned or betrayed or whatever, you will just feel even more worst because the game you so despised about is still well loved and cared for while you lurk around waiting for its demise.

Show your non-support by being the bigger and better person: move on, and leave those who like the game be. If the those of us who love the game are just fooling ourselves, then it won’t do you bad right? So what have you got to lose (beside high blood pressure) if you leave this forum?

If you are still playing, willing to give this game a chance, post away and join CDI. If you don’t believe in any of it, and is falling out of love (and have growing anger) towards the game, pls leave. You won’t like it if you have something you like, and some people keeps spoiling the fun right?

So if you stopped playing, hate this game (I know I repeat myself), I wish you Happy Holidays and time for you guys to move on.
