Waiting For Death [WFD]
@ Borlis Pass Server
I swap weapons a lot. At minimum that gives me ten different attacks for the left side. There are a lot of options for the swapable skills, too. I think it’s just fine the way it is.
So anet made an announcement everywhere except for in-game and it’s my fault for not knowing? Got it. Thanks
Is this sarcasm? The only announcement I saw about the dungeon being pulled was the stickied “heads up” notice on the forums, and that was posted only hours before the dungeon was pulled. If you saw other announcements, I’d sure like to know where/when because I like to think I stay pretty current about these things.
My experience was the same as everyone who missed the dungeon. I saw only one announcement that it was being closed and that was while I was at work on the day it was being removed. I thought I had plenty of time and knowing it would only take a few minutes, I focused on the more time consuming achievements first.
I just think it’s important that timelines like this are announced prominently as soon as possible so that there’s a minimum of disappointment for the players and grief taken by ANet.
Now that it’s all over, there is something else I think is needed:
I know it’s part of the fun and important to have the contents of each phase be a surprise, but, it was terribly confusing to figure out exactly what was needed in order to end up with the “Emmissary of the Mad King” title.
For example, I had not yet done the dungeon when it was removed at the introduction of phase four. I had no idea it was going to go away before the end of the event, nor did I know that it was a necessary part of getting the title. By the time I saw any announcement about this, I was at work and access ended before the end of that work day.
It would save players unnecessary disappointment, and ANet some grief in terms of complaints if, toward the end of an event and with some wiggle room before necessary components are removed, there is some sort of clear checklist provided regarding what’s needed for event rewards.

Faction weapons are unique but pricey.
The little gears on it actually spin.5 gold, 52 silver for a rare LB with mediocre stats is borderline highway robbery!
For that price it should wash my socks as well …
LOL! I did say it was pricey! As for the stats, yeah, not so great, but I didn’t get it for the stats. When a girl sees an accessory that she really likes (the looks of), money is rarely an object!
I had a lot of fun, but felt pressured for time since I can only play in the evenings, and not every evening at that. There just seemed like a lot of stuff to do alongside finishing the monthly achievement too. Letting the event run another week would have been nice.
I’m one of those slow and deliberate jumpers; given time I can complete most jumping puzzles. With the water rising and explosions happening, etc. I would really need lots and lots and lots of tries before I could manage a reasonable attempt. I’ve tried it 20 or 30 times and then decided to invest time in completing my monthly achievement instead.
Is tonight the last night for the clock tower to be around?
During the storyline process, your girlfriend has probably chosen a faction. Faction weapons are unique but pricey. If she likes the longbow her faction offers, you could foot the bill as a gift. Look to spend about 5g.
I tried to find images for the Vigil and Priory longbows, but had no luck. Here’s the one I have:

The little gears on it actually spin.

Did you post about this in the bug forum?

Some of the mobs die in one hit. However, there are some where a whole bunch of mobs come through the doors, sometimes veterans, and sometimes it spawns events. Level 80’s cannot one shot those. (At least I can’t.)
Also, sometimes it only spits a ToT bag out on the ground. And guess what? Everyone can pick it up. We had a small group running around because it increased the amount of times we could open the door with each person taking a turn. A little guy asked to join us and he had a blast running around with us in areas he would not have been safe in alone.
I have used it as a way to not only get my ToT bags and candy and mats, but to make friends in those maps and help people out.
Pochi,
This was my experience, exactly. I truly felt like I was helping, not hindering, the experience of other players when I was running around looking for doors. I’m pretty sure I’d have been told otherwise if that had been the case.
Cursed Shore was pretty good candy corn ore hunting last night. I even found several rich nodes.
Woohoo. What now?
This is a very young game. ANet has plans to add much, much more content. That said, you have to remember that language is not static. The definition for “MMO” will evolve along with the games the moniker represents. Your specific perception of what an MMO should be may be too rigid. Time will tell.
Being able to gather while in combat is awesome and a huge plus. Too many people now-a-days love to steal your node. They see you attack the mob by the node and then will go in and take it while you fight. Happens way too often. This prevents that and I feel it is a good thing.
There’s no node stealing in this game, so this point is moot. Mob trains don’t really bother me. Most of the time I see them coming and I can dodge the mess if I want to.
RNG (Random Number Generator) is a staple device used by every MMO. If you haven’t run into it before, this will be a good lesson regarding how it works. Random is random. You could get a weapon skin in the first chest you open, or you could not see one until you’d opened 1,000 chests.
I’m not surprised that some people are disappointed. I was disappointed the first and second and yes, third time I bought keys to open BLC chests. But I stopped there.
I’m seeing posts from people who have opened 80, 300 or more chests and who are now posting that they’re really upset. I’d be really upset, too, but at myself for being silly enough to keep going beyond the point that I could financially or emotionally afford.
Colin’s wording strongly insinuates that this will be a one time event. If it were not, would he not have stated the case differently?
I would be disappointed, too, if I had other plans, but I would think Sunday would be better than a weekday for the vast majority of players. As always, any schedule will be bad for someone. They have to try to select a time that will work for as many people as possible.
Had to laugh at “It used to be enjoyable…”. I’d wager the vast majority of players haven’t even had an opportunity to do this at all yet. If it were me, I’d be feeling like I got a bonus ‘cause I got extra stuff pre-nerf instead of complaining that you weren’t able to pile up tons of stuff less than 24 hrs into the event.
ooooOoo! That IS scary!
Working as intended!
I stand corrected regarding the numbers of pets, Mr. Moose, though I was only thinking of pets purchased outright.
I still believe that because they are not random in nature, they are fundamentally different from standard minis and achievements as well as resalability reflect that.
Haha! It is pretty surreal, isn’t it?
There are only 3 Halloween minis, so you know what you’ll be getting when you purchase them. Their value is not inflated by any measure of luck in obtaining them. The “regular” mini pet boxes are filled with totally random pets, so it makes more sense for them to count toward the achievement.
Kodama,

I’m with Sharkinu – the ghost is the best mini pet.
I didn’t get much time to check things out last night as it was late and I had to be at work early this morning, but I loved what I did see. Graphically gorgeous and fun. I can’t wait to get home this evening and see more!
TY, ANet for all the good fun and for having (apparently) thick enough skins to weather the inevitable complaints.

I found a trick or treat door in Queensdale in the giant tree grove. Just an FYI if you haven’t seen one of these yet… they are not permanent. They spawn, stay up a couple of minutes, then despawn.
Order of Whispers
I just spent 13g on an entire suit of OoW skins, including the longbow. I have 2g left.
Thanks for sharing this!
I really do think awareness of people logging in would be nice, either on friends list or guild list,
This is available. I get announcements when people on my friends list log in or out.
Another thing to consider is whether the class has strong ranged or melee capabilties… or both. I’m not so great at melee, but I’m enjoying my warrior very much because her rifle packs a serious punch. She may even be helping me improve in terms of melee since I’m using the greatsword as my alternate weapon. Thief has surprisingly good ranged capabilities as well and a ranger with a greatsword for in-close work is fun, too.
I strongly recommend playing each profession to at least level 10, as you have time. You just won’t have any idea what you’re missing otherwise.

Try this:

I guess I’m too easily distracted. I do every event I run into while doing map completion. I’m piling up karma like crazy.
^^
Logun said it all, and beautifully!
I’d love this. I actually find in-game fishing almost as relaxing as irl fishing! It’d give us another excuse to savor the beautiful GW2 scenery, too!
Buy a second account and offer to start a new character with your wife. The game is only 2 months old and you can have your new characters levelled pretty quickly.
Also, as someone has already pointed out, anyone buying the game should be aware of the rules. You’re not supposed to have multiple people playing on the same account, so the problem the OP describes is one he created.
I’m pretty sure the prospect of providing additional ways for hackers to profit is not something anyone (but the hackers) wants to see implemented.

It doesn’t make sense to me to eliminate neutral mobs if you choose to use an AOE attack. You have single target attacks as well, so use the attack that fits the situation.
Yeah, I think some labels that include the character name are needed. I cleaned up my bank space last night and ended up lumping all of the starter zone stuff together because there was just no way to even group armor (other than by type).
I really hope ArenaNet will reconsider and include an FOV slider. I have been playing in windowed mode with the window narrowed to get a better perspective, but it’s so far from ideal to have my side vision truncated. Plus, I keep accidentally closing the window.
:(
What exactly would you add? Wedding outfits? Other than that… I don’t know that ArenaNet needs to do anything, really. As others have said, this is within the realm of RP and the players participating would be dictating who is getting married, etc.
Not only do I watch them, I usually take a screen shot of the “flag” and my character once the cut scene has panned way out. I now have quite the collection of these images. They make great wallpaper and finding the vista flag in the image is a sort of “where’s waldo” endeavor.
I’ve noticed the red flashing target on occasion during an event and it marks the location of incoming mobs/attackers. Usually, it’s to assist in locating attackers when they have the potential to come in from multiple points.
Great post, Fildy! (I’d give you a +1 if the forums were offering them atm.) I love the banner idea, especially. Your sig is particularly amusing. Just curious: Were you involved with the Fluffy Bunnies of Siel in Aion?
It’s possible nobody knows the specific answer you’re asking for. I believe your chances depend entirely on RNG. It’s just a complete gamble. Throw stuff in if you can afford to lose it.
There are days when I’m just plain antisocial, so I flip on the the “invisible” option before I log in.
Other days, I’m quite happy to log vent and seek out my guildmates and/or give map chat a glance now and again in case someone wants help or company.
I like that I can play either way depending on how I feel.
There’s that word again. “Quick”.
Makes me think of a phrase that my grandmother used to say, “Hurry up and wait.”
Building a world takes time. There’s a tremendously good start at our disposal already. If it’s not moving quickly enough for you, there’s no wasted monthly fee being burned. That frees you to do something else for awhile.
I haven’t even really broken down what might be needed for legendaries yet, so I don’t know why TP prices are such a factor. Do you really need to go thru the TP to craft a legendary?
If not, then I don’t have a problem with legendaries simply being a very long term thing. I guess I’m just not as driven to get everything as quickly as others.
I’ve not run into any player related problems on Borlis Pass. Quite the contrary.
Having additional mobs within range requires you to consider which attack is appropriate under those conditions. Clear the adds before going for the primary target and you’re good. I don’t understand the problem with this.
Edge,
As seen in the story below, Runescape was also implicated and has since demanded their name be removed from the list of games affected. In light of that, it doesn’t seem unbelievable that they included other games erroneously.
