Historically, I have always been a pretty terrible jumper. However, after doing so many vistas and jumping puzzles I’m amazed to find myself loving them. Believe me, if I can do these, ANYONE can do them.

As a previous poster said, take your time. Take particular note of your positioning. Sometimes it’s a simple matter of the rock (or whatever) having a little extension on it that makes all the difference in being able to reach your goal. Hang in there and have fun!

Just wondering, Xabbu, did you enjoy the actual puzzle? I think people are far too reward-oriented. Our eyes are always somewhere other than where we’re at. Sad thing.

True black, white and red are crazy expensive dye colors in other games as well. The market is genuinely demand driven.

So to clarify something though… “map completion” rewards a big chunk of xp? So if I was level 40 and went back to the 1st zone, I will still get ??? xp?

You’ll get xp, but it’s not necessarily worth it, for the time it takes to get to every point of interest, waypoint, vista, and heart

“Worth it” is completely subjective, of course. I happen to like searching all of these things out and I think it’s terrific that there’s a reward for going the extra mile.

Vistas have become my favorite part of finishing a zone. ANet… I hope you’ll hold true to your design in the face of these attempts to strip it down. As evidenced by the topics already posted in these forums, the onslaught has begun.

Dps meter is anti-casual so I’d not hold my breath. Sure would be nice.

I can see it now, a group leaving behind a well-specced skilled elementalist that AOE heals the group, drops AOE boons on them, crowd-controls, and swiftly clears conditions from everyone (all while putting up pretty good DPS) for that “L33T” 30 fire specced one that never switches attunements simply because he/she fills the DPS meter by 15% more…

That is why any decent dps meter tracks all those things. As for antisocial, well, internet is antisocial anyway.
Anti-casual is preciselly the reason why it is not implemented I think. Right now no way to check who has subpar gear, who autoattacks all the time and fails with dodges regularly. Why is that? So that no feelings get hurt, everyone is a “winnar” and is “speciul” snowflake.

Meters are why we have scads of pure dps-specced players dropping dead every 10 seconds in dungeons right now. These are, by and large, former dps meter addicts who think they can blast their way through an encounter that actually requires far more than fire power.

Stop using that “anti-casual” banner as an excuse for demanding a license to bully.

I’m a fan of the clean, uncluttered look. If I want to see whether you’re titled, I’ll target you.

If they re-introduce capes to the game, I hope they overhaul their appearance. That flat, square piece of cloth flapping about on my back is silly, but the hooded versions used in Aion are actually attractive. While I’m wishing, it would be cool if guilds could import their own custom images to be displayed on the cape.

You can’t go 10 yards in this game without tripping over a waypoint and every profession has a speed boost of some kind AND there are speed boost items in the Black Lion chests. Mounts are unnecessary and would only detract from the game’s design.

Only occasionally have I seen players run by without help someone who is down. During one Swanir’s Dome event, so many people rushed to help each other that several times I actually saw a message that said “there are too many players attempting to revive…”. I had to laugh because in some games I’ve played, that would NEVER happen.

Somebody asked what kiting was and I’ve yet to see a really definitive description. It is just as it sounds, it is as if you are pulling the mob along like a kite, staying just out of reach and attacking on the move the entire time.

The other thing I’d like to add to the already good advice here is that you must keep moving. Always. The beauty of this game is its movement. After playing WOW (and multiple other MMOs) for so many years, and being tied to one spot in order to cast, I feel an enormous sense of freedom in this game. I’m kiting well for the first time in my gaming life and it’s so much FUN.

I used to raid in WOW and honestly, I’m relieved NOT to have to deal with add ons any more. The ability to move the current UI’s components around would be welcome, however.

Just some further info about the pirate’s costume — Once you equip the included sword, your abilities bar changes to some specific pirate-ly skills:
1. Brandish sword (You flail your sword like a maniac.)
2. Yell (you yell “Yarr!”)
3. Walk the Plank (You faceplant in a big splash of water)
4. Call parrot (A tropical bird lands at your side.)
5. Build cannon (you build a cannon that can be fired by yourself and passersby. Lasts 5 minutes.)

I love the round glasses (I’ve forgotten their specific name) also sold in the gem store. My charr looks quite scholarly wearing them!

I am having a total blast with axe/warhorn with longbow on the flipside. I tried torch, but had difficulty seeing ground circles through the glow. I’d like to switch out the longbow for something else as I find I’m not using it much at all. This thread has provided inspiration to that end!
