I hope everyone that had their heart set on healing at least tried out this concept of ANet’s. I was a healer, too, loved doing it, felt I was contributing, etc., etc., but I like this approach very, very much. It eliminates the downsides of playing those dedicated roles, including the “blame game” that every healer is familiar with. (If people died, it was always the healer’s fault even if the player never moved out of the fire.)

I would hate to see people miss out on fun because they rigidly refuse to even try something new.

I would hate to see mounts at all in this game, but I’m especially against flying mounts. As I’ve said in NUMEROUS threads about this, mounts trivialize the player’s perception of the gaming world and flying mounts do so tenfold. This game’s aesthetic was designed to be enjoyed without mounts. It would be a shame to sully that with them as an afterthought.

In addition, mounts are a common point of contention in games that have them, as players often use them to grief other players by parking them on top of resource points. I would hate to see the lovely world of Tyria cluttered up with thousands of redundant mounts. My vote would be a resounding NO to mounts.

To be safe, I would have your Ranger do the upgrade. Whatever the results are, you’ll know for future reference.

You don’t know enough about how they spend their time or resources to make that call.

I don’t know how not having a chest for the time being equates to “misery”. I’m sure that the investigation process has the potential to yield useful info for later, similar situations. Let them do what they need to do without constant and continual harassment and complaints. These guys cannot get a break from a certain segment of the player base even when they are sincerely trying to correct a problem.

Can’t find the thread back (probably merged) but a guy, after complaining at support, has shown the answer saying that everyone that had the glitch received it, and that the script is over.

I have spent extended periods of time playing in low level zones with friends and family that got a much later start than I did. I don’t care that I’m not getting level 80 drops, though I have occasionally seen high level drops. I like being able to play with them without completely ruining their experience by one-shotting everything.

I have noticed that as my gear has gotten better, it gets more powerful across the board. I wouldn’t mind if down-levelling were tweaked so that I do a little less damage, but my experience is any time something like this is tweaked it gets too hard a fix. For that reason, I’d vote to leave it alone.

Just to give folks some idea of how many of the two types of transmutation stones you might expect to get in game:

I have 50ish of the fine stones stacked up, most were rewards from finishing zones. I have one level 80 and have used maybe 12 or 15 of the stones in the last two months. I have never purchased any.

I also have 40 or so of the yellowish ones, also received from zone completions and chests. I’ve never purchased any of these, either, but between all of my alts, I’ve used a lot of them and still have that pile left.

These have accumulated while leveling my main and three alts.

Thanks so much for posting a link to your cooking guide. I’d bookmarked a couple of others, but compared to yours they were pretty convoluted.

Seeing everyone’s screenshots is much fun. Please do keep them coming. Isn’t it nice that you can upload images without having to use an intermediary host? And wouldn’t it be fun if they’d incorporate a fraps function like they have in Rift? Anything’s possible, right?

DEKeyz: Sending better luck for your future Frostgorge adventures. I was there a couple of weeks ago and had some lucky timing re: that skill challenge in the upper corner of the map. A necro arrived at the same time and we managed to whittle that champion down, but it took a bit to do. I was a little concerned at the start that we were going to struggle, but it went pretty well with only a few hold-your-breath moments.

I’m at 91% and I think I have Malchor’s and the pvp zones yet to do. I wish we could see our status on the map for every zone without having to physically go there. Is there a way to do that that I’ve missed?

It’s been a page or so since the AA (Asuran Army) was mentioned, and it’s taken me that long to remember that I wanted to introduce my little mesmer, Myrnah. She’s just turned 46 and I’m having lots of fun with her.

My ranger is still my favorite, though. I’ve played hunters/rangers since time began, i think. Since I just figured out how to post pics, I’ll throw in one of her too!

They’re both sporting Christmas colors as of this evening.

If you haven’t already, use the search function to browse all of those numerous threads to find a wealth of info that may be helpful to you.

It is a little obnoxious to open an Unidentified Dye just to receive something you already have.

At least you can sell the extra dye on the Trading Post and make another player’s day…

You can also throw four dyes that you already have into the Mystic Forge and potentially get one that you don’t already have.

I tend not to use global chat or even read it. That has been the case in every MMO I’ve played so GW2 can’t be blamed in my case. I think it’s a case of it being easier to converse in vent while playing. I don’t have to stop what I’m doing in game to type something out.

If I rez someone or vice versa, I will always say “thanks” or answer with “no problem” if they thank me.

Elowin — I expect a website will help for those who would like to schedule dungeons in advance. Finding the info you need on a website would be much easier than scrolling back and forth here in a discussion thread.

For me, it’s best to schedule ahead. That’s not to say I can’t be spontaneous, but I get more of what I really want to do done if I plan ahead. YMMV!

I think we should have a guild strategy for attacking fortifications and other strong points which uses out large proportion of Asura to advantage:

Steps:
1. Let the Char and Norn members have a few drinks before the battle.
2. Create battle line with each Norn and Char assigned to a squad of Asura.
3. Commence Asura tossing for airborne assault on the target.

LOL.. Asuran ballistics… I can picture them sailing thru the air with their little helmets on, a keg of powder under each arm. :P

Like Messup, I spent my first bit of time with guildies last night and enjoyed talking to everyone. I should have some nice blocks of time to play this weekend, so I look forward to dropping in to guild chat once again and maybe even venture into a dungeon! We’ll see what develops.

MissKitten — I can completely and utterly relate to your comment re: melee. Despite being just awful at chasing things around (I much prefer ranged pew-pewing), my ranger and warrior both carry greatswords in hopes I get struck by lightning and suddenly find my melee groove. That and I love the greatsword graphics. Go figure!

Glitch, et all who are plotting so smartly about websites and ranks, I appreciate what you’re doing very much, indeed. Having belonged to various clubs and organizations in my life, I know it’s always just a handful in any bunch who can be counted on to take care of the details required to keep anything running smoothly. Kudos to you!

Zone population seems to vary day to day on my server. If you’re finding too few people in one zone you could try moving to another for the same level bracket, or even one lower. I’m not sure why the focus on speed, but MMOs are not static. Your experience is going to be different as time goes on, for a lot of reasons.

I play a ranger and find that my pet allows me to do things I might not get away with when playing my ele or mesmer. One other thought — levelling a little slower isn’t such a terrible thing. I know you have 100% completion on your warrior, but that doesn’t mean you’ve seen it all. You will get leveled, one way or another, just maybe not at record speeds.

I’m sorry you’re getting mean messages. Thank you for turning off that blue emblem when you don’t need it. I can certainly understand forgetting to turn it off sometimes. I’m prone to forgetfulness myself.

I have found that I tune out that blue symbol on my minimap, now, unless it’s something I need to pay attention to at the moment. Much like that big orange boss symbol that can show up from a million miles away. Once you make mental note of what the deal is, you can just put it out of your mind.

I just wanted to let you know that there really are some reasonable human beings out there. If only the nasty ones weren’t so prone to being so vocal! :P

Some good ideas in these last two posts by DeadlySynz and Bruno Sardine. ANet has said that they plan to tweak DEs throughout the game. More ideas like these would be welcome, I’m sure.

Perhaps something needs to be done to, at least temporarily, draw people’s attention from the things that are monopolizing their time? Along the lines of the invasions suggested by Bruno, maybe some events that affect crafting outcomes, operations of the TP or even Fractals. Not to the degree that people are horrifically inconvenienced, but enough that some small amount of time outside of LA and Fractals is needed to keep operations there running smoothly.

It’s been three or four days since I’ve been to the forums so it’s taken a bit to read thru all of the new posts. Hello to everyone that’s joined in that time, I’m so happy you’ve found this good group!

I’m hoping someone can clarify how guild membership works. Is the guild able to function across all servers? I ask because I’d somehow gotten the idea that invitations could be sent to anyone, anywhere, but maybe that’s all wrong.

Is there a resource somewhere for LOH where I can see who else might be on my server?

Have I not gotten an invitation because of my server location?

I would be very happy to represent, but can’t do it 100% of the time as I belong to my family/friend guild as well. I could probably easily do 75% of the time.

Hope everyone’s having fun in game. I sort of tripped over the jumping puzzle added with Lost Shore (the one in Dredgehaunt Cliffs) last night and would have loved some company whilst face planting in there … though I did get it done, finally!

I’ll poke around a bit more to see if I missed the answers to my questions somewhere, I just mostly wanted to say hey and see what’s new.

Lankybrit: The GW2 reference sites are fledglings compared to the likes of Wowhead, which has had YEARS for its contributors to build the data contained therein to its current level.

Players will need to be diligent about sharing info to the GW2 sites if they ever hope to have comparable references.

The advantage to selling dyes in their unidentified form is that you can charge a uniform price for them, and charge significantly more than many of the less rare or less popular colors.

You’ll charge less than the more popular and rarer colors, of course, but since there are fewer of those, you’ll come out ahead in the long run.

If it doesn’t close while you’re there (and I doubt that it will), do a quick re-log. It should be closed on your return, assuming the required timeframe has passed.

Just curious if there is endless bank slot space available for purchase or if there’s a cap.

(I did try to find the answer via search, but got no hits.)

What is a Perma Merchant?

Isn’t there some sort of transaction lower limit regarding credit cards? I seem to recall hearing at one point that credit card companies only allow purchases above a certain dollar value. It could be that $10 is the bottom limit.

Your commitment to getting a legendary must be … legendary. Otherwise, you don’t qualify. That’s all there is to it.

The “new” will wear off and the traffic to FOTM will lighten with time. In the meantime, do what you like and quit paying so much attention to what other people are doing.

According to Chris Whiteside’s response to this question during yesterday’s Reddit MMA, they regret having introduced ascended gear to only one facet of the game. He said this was “a mistake” and that they will be adding access to this gear to other venues ASAP.

Awesome to read of you and your little guardian’s adventures. My son and grandson play, as do my brother and his wife and my nephew. Spending family time this way is definitely a departure from sitting around the TV!

You’ve got to admit, the way their statements are analyzed and picked apart, it’s not surprising their responses become cautiously guarded.

I haven’t really seen any issue with over-analysis or picking apart of their past statements in the current discussion. The statements are usually quoted verbatim. They are extremely clear and really don’t require analysis. Nor do they require being picked apart. This stands in contra-distinction to their current language. Take the quote for example: “we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.” How you would even approach its analysis boggles the mind, but it certainly needs to be picked apart to have any idea what it means. Do you understand the difference?

Of course I understand the difference. No need for condescension here.

I was referring to ANet’s interactions/dialog with the community as a whole, cumulatively from day one, not just today’s interactions. As happens fairly routinely, people tend to try to read between the lines (analyse and pick apart) and sometimes, because they’ve been given far too little to work with, make cognitive leaps and assumptions.

It’s not just this community and ANet, either. We’ve seen this kind of dysfunctional communication in most gaming forums. Without regular and clear communication, there may as well be no communication at all. Players inevitably lose trust and developers inevitably seem to become very cautious about what they will put out there.

That said, I must add that I’m impressed with tonight’s efforts at getting back on course. I was afraid that there would be just a few questions addressed and then back to business as usual, but Chris Whiteside has definitely put in some time that will pay dividends as far as building some trust. Keeping it going in the future will be the real trick.

Wish they’d just remove the currently accessible Ascended items from drops (you can keep em if you make them or already have them) and just re-release them when the rest of the acquisition methods are ready because as it stands they’ve got a pretty dead world.
