Hmm, I never thought of something like diminishing returns to something like cc, sounds interesting.
No one is complaining because unlike OP, we can move on from things. Unlike OP who likes to bring up things incessantly over & over again.
So it shows you that the very vocal wvw vets who constantly reply on here, and have very contradictory opinions to the majority of players are an extremely small % of the playerbase.
Almost sounds like you were referring to yourself. kek
It’s a nice first step. But of course it could be made even better, till we finally have air and land battles.
I’m still waiting for underwater battles, we need submarines. All jokes aside, where are the exciting water battles? Underwater skills and weapons need a look at. Also give us an underwater map.
Hehe so there is a benefit to keeping that coin stuck on the keyboard after all :P
The reason people keep on playing is a) good fights b) community – work on that and the game mode is ‘safe’. I doubt that wvw players really wanted all this loot. I guess most are like me: I want balance (class and structure), I want strategy (which is being killed off little by little) and I want to play with my server (which is partlyy being destroyed by the links and also by not balancing the game).
I agree with this especially the last parts – sadly the relinkings have just jumbled ties with people – enemies become friends, and friends soon become enemies again. We have to learn new commanders ways each time and everything is a mess and it frustrates everyone when they have to readjust to the new links/people/comms, but most of all it doesn’t feel as close knit as it was before. Sure, there are still lots of us who fight with indifference to this change but it just feels like an empty husk. Every now and then you’ll see someone on map/team chat that will say “our_server/paired_server sucks” depending on how the matchup is going. I’ve seen guilds transfer servers because their current server got too toxic. I suppose things need to change and we all have to adjust. There are still good fights to be had and I hope the best for this game mode. For me my biggest wish is to be rid of lag though – at this point I am no longer fighting players, I am firstly fighting against lag. One thing I always look forward to is balance changes no matter how good or grim it looks.
It might be neat to have an air-to-air only balli turret, with very short cooldowns (less than 5s) and hit 5-10 targets, and make it deployable. It could also have an air barrier that knocks them out of the sky like an air shield, maybe like 1 on shield gens (that knocks multi targets out of sky), or number 2 on shield gen which can block them coming in directly.
So it’s like an appendix? Hope it can change runes in the future then.
Every DC the game is rolling accounts back.

A while back I remember during one update there were rollbacks when we got dc’ed from wvw. After each dc we would get a different ip for the same map and you’d lose stuff you just got before the dc, maybe the same thing is happening here and the servers keep crashing and it loaded a new instance with a rollback as a safety from the previous crash. They are probably looking into it and maybe we’ll get another mini update if it hasn’t already been resolved on their end on what’s causing the server crashes.
You can play how you want to play, but you got to put work into it if you want to be rewarded. Simple as that.
The complaints are rather from genuine concerns. I wouldn’t call what’s happening to Ogrewatch not major for instance. Over time as the fanfare for gliding recedes, perhaps then we’ll begin to see more of the impacts. Territories, gliding in combat, attacking while gliding, etc all have to be thought out carefully and it seems that more work is piling up for them to deal with. With the expac coming up there is going to be more balances (or should be), bugs, and more things for them to focus on. I think Anet has their plate pretty full atm so hopefully they’ll resolve things by the time the expac comes out.
What kind of interesting possibilities? Genuinely curious
Once the bugs are ironed out it will be a nice addition. I’ve been enjoying it a lot.
If we keep calling for changes to be removed instead of giving them a solid chance then WvW will get stale again. We need to have the game mode continue to update as the game progresses.
Definitely needs updates, but on more glaring issues.
Dunno, maybe try postprocessing in options but I don’t think you can disable that one thing in particular and not affect the other stuff.
This is the consequence of gliding, we just gotta adapt amiright? I think it’s fine
Big visual bubbles kinda like in silverwastes then? hehehe pokes eyes
I’ve been getting them too, but you might want to know I did stability tests on my cpu&ram, switched to a new psu and it did not make a difference. Since it is a hard freeze that requires manual rebooting I don’t think a crash dump is generated. You can try changing psu and let me know if it’s still crashing for you.
Just using the 64bit client here
It’s not the client, it’s your PC.
let me recap:
- previously when the problem was happening, it was in zerg fights randomly
- no high temps on gpu and cpu
- no problems with other games
- thought it was from nvidia hd audio driver, because from past experience I know it can cause hard freeze+audio stutter but turns out it wasn’t this after allToday I’ve been getting them only in EB in big fights. Once I went to a different border the crashes stopped happening. So nope, not my pc. “It’s your PC” is a vague statement.
Well if it was a client issue, everyone would have it. So yes, it’s your PC is still relevant. It could be that some of your ram is starting to go, and in bigger fights it’kittenting the part that is having issues. Could be your CPU can’t handle being used at a certain threshold, and hits it in big fights. It could be your HD having bad sectors that get spun.
So while it may be vague, if it was the client, everyone would have the issue. Everyone has the same client. It’s not different on your PC vs your guildmate.
I’v done prime tests on cpu and ram btw, and also switched psu. So nope. i7-4790K, gtx 1070. Going to test with 2 spare gpu’s now.

Yeah they need to add more bluffs or remove that part of the hill altogether
Maybe they need to cut off that part of the hill so it turns just near the bridge at ogre
Well, this is the drawback of gliding. This way prevents anything bad ever happening so it’s good.
Watch as more of the landscape terrain gets changed.
Oh come on it’s fine.

Not sure you shouldn’t add things simply because they might be abused by trolls.
ATM trolls can build rams in the keep and waste supply just the same but why would they build a ton of balistas in a camp and refresh them rather than build AC’s in a tower and refresh those instead?
It doesn’t matter what they build – the fact is they will be rewarded participation for it
They did say it can be removed so it can still be undone. In the end once the novelty wears off, it is going to amount to more things for the dev to work on instead of the important ones that truly matter.
Ok, since this last update I’ve been getting the crashes again so I’m not sure what changed with it. Same symptoms – in the middle of a fight it will randomly hard freeze the pc, no error message just straight up freeze until I manually reboot.
Don’t worry, over time the more glaring problems will come to light, and then the poor devs will have to work on it even more, spending less time on stuff that matters.
There are several factors to consider here other than fuglyness. Many of our players have pre-existing vision problems up to an including poor or aging eyesight or even color blindness.
Coming from a background designing HMI sytems for process automation, I can tell you there are a plethora of different opinions, vision needs and safety factors to consider in these situations, and it’s worse when you’re “upgrading” an existing system. It may seem as simple as draw and make it visually appealing, but it’s not.
Now, the designers in this case couldn’t do anything about the existing background of the displays (ie BLs), but in order to to add this new functionality they had to consider who all would be looking at it and what vision challenges those operators bring to the table.
TLDR; The thickness of the border lines will seem overwhelming to a normal sighted person, add in the color and you have fugly and busy. But, if they thinned the lines and kept the existing team colors, our players with vision problems may find it difficult to spot problem areas.
I’ve heard that blinking lines vs static lines were also helpful in some situations.
It’s new and fresh for wvw now. Soon most will see more problems than benefits and far too many way to exploit. To fix these problems gliding will be nerfed to the point of people wondering why it is in wvw.
I just can’t see gliding sticking around.
It might give the devs too many things to work on and fix as well.
There is a setting in options to disable it
Gz! Not sure when I’ll start my journey, slowly but surely.
You descend fast enough for any new siege places to be very farfetched. Besides many places you can reach are already restriced from using siege. Its not gonna be much of a problem.
So far this change has only been good!
Well then I’ll keep using them in those special places
gliding is just another crutch for defenders
placing unreachable siege
prevents attackers from chasing and killing you
pulling players to their death and gliding away…its kittenty mechanic
I couldn’t find a single new place to deploy siege in a Keep or Tower that you couldn’t place it before the change.
Pro tip: It doesn’t have to be inside the tower or keep wink wink
Needs the cap back on it or Imma be beastly. rawr
Refreshing siege can be abused by trolls who like to waste keep supply – this will reward their behaviour. Imagine, tons of ballista’s etc near supply depot built by troll and he refreshes them for his “reward”. Also, operating shield generators should give some kind of participation because they don’t give anything even when defending.
Out of curiousity, do PoF only players not use shield gens as well like core only players (besides gliding)?
Eh – I understand what Safir is saying. If it gives a competitive advantage then perhaps it should be enabled for everyone. I don’t think this is the same as locking PvE content behind gliding; competitive game modes should put everyone on an equal footing.
Anet, would you consider giving vanilla players a basic glider for WvW?
(Disclaimer; I’m in the EU and haven’t been able to play the updates yet. But I already own HoT and pre-purchased the new expansion, so not driven by personal gain).
I can also agree with this – I own core, HoT and pre purchased PoF but I can understand where Safir is coming from. Back when I only owned core I felt pretty much the same way and I think it’s only fair that there is equal footing. I still feel it’s odd that people are locked out of using something like a shield gen, and now there is gliding. These may be considered little things to those that own the expansions but little by little it will start making a big difference and split users from core to the different expacs when other stuff gets added. Let’s not go that direction.
Thank you for clearing that up, I was considering maybe getting another copy but was confused as it asked for me to login as well. I ended up getting PoF from in game though but I still wanted to know how to get it from the web store. Good to know.
Long before desert BL and s a lark I once ran my warrior with a combo of the snowfall runes and death from above. It was hilarious. There only a few cliffs I could find that were too high to jump from and not survive. More then a few chased after me or QQed as to how I could survive those Jumps at hills while they perished.
(people must of thought I was nuts as I carefully went around all of Alpine BL and jumped off the highest clifs just to see which ones could be safe in the future)
Have you tried this with windfall in dbl yet? hehe
Gliding should be okay for WvW in general, as a concept, as long as everyone can use it.
Otherwise it’s going to create a great disadvantage for new PoF players and the old, core players, in addition to everything they already have to endure, like lack of autoloot, no access to builds, gear, extra infusions, siege etc, but this stuff only affects them. Movement features are going to affect everyone. Moves involving gliding are very likely to split the whole teams en route, or in combat, unnecessarily which could drastically affect the outcome of the battles for all of the players. This is another pay-to-win feature, it’s not in the spirit of the original game, and it’s not welcome unless it’s available to everyone.
WvW might not be about fair pvp, but it’s still about teamplay, and introducing another barrier for those teams is going to make the gameplay more imbalanced for all players, kill the fun and eventually lead to further WvW population decline, more guilds dying and more players leaving the game with a sense of disappointment.
As a solution, let every player purchase in game a temporary or permanent WvW-only glider, so we can fight on equal ground. That way, I’m sure, it’s going to be perfectly acceptable, refreshing and fun. Just please, please don’t turn it into another paywall: WvW is already in a bad state on many servers, population-wise, even with all the links; pay-to-win features are only going to make it worse.
They should also allow non-HoT players to use shield gens.
I don’t think the regular mounts like the ones they have shown will be a thing in WvW but maybe with the system in place they could add siege mounts? Like golems but different in certain ways, maybe closer to the Charr Car tactic. That would be neat.
What about like the scorpions in eotm?
When will pvp get gliding? I can’t wait!
Looks like Anet caved in to this demand from a few people. In my opinion I don’t think it should be enabled but whatever the outcome I hope it doesn’t backfire.
Fewer servers, more population – sounds like a surefire recipe for perma lag. Are all your maps constantly queued 24/7, or did you mean people can’t join at a specific time?
While mounts would be interesting, I cannot imagine it as it would be adding to lag further – even mini’s are shut off for various reasons. If they are somehow able to tackle lag in terms of calculations and run a server that is able to handle all the stress as well as have it hosted somewhere where routing/latency is not an issue for most, then probably they could add something like this. Housing would also be an issue, if not for the extra loading/syncing times depending on what you mean by housing.
This is exactly what I get from specific servers too oddly (interestingly it can happen even in smaller 10~ v 10~ fights, just any encounter that is over 5 people sometimes), but I will delete my local.dat to see if that makes any diff, thanks. The lag is just getting really bad lately though, not sure if it’s from previous ddos or the new episode or combination of both, even the forums are affected.
Do you remember the stats of the food? Cos sweet bean bun is 15% condi duration (outgoing) and -20% condition duration (incoming)
