Just curious, but how can it be “soon be dead again” if it’s “Gandara wvw is dead now”? What do you mean by playable? Is the border the only place not getting wiped? Not really understanding the way you define it sorry. There are people, no? Just that they are being wiped? Is that what you mean by dead?
There was this really hilarious one on last night that would just spam dodges non-stop. 3 dodges, Signet of Agility, 2 more dodges, Channeled Vigor, 2 more dodges, then smoke cloud spam. Oh, and with Sigil’s of Energy on weapons for more dodges.
Like, I could stealth and take two steps back and just watch him go to town on nothing.
He was also wearing Dire or Trailblazer so he took forever to kill, but since he blew all his cooldowns on thin air it wasn’t a big deal. The kicker is that, if he got 2 stacks of bleed on me from one of those dodges, I’d die if I didn’t clear it. That means that if I had to clear condis once, getting hit a second time meant certain death. If the guy had any idea what he was doing, it would have been really annoying.
Did you mean two ticks? I’ve come against heavy two ticker bleeders but not two stackers.
This is a terrible sign because it means that players are once again starting to leave WvW. And it’s only been one week since the release!
It’s possibly a sign they weren’t interested in wvw in the first place.
Anyone else noticing these server dc’s and crashes? There’s been more and more happening at least in my servers matchup. Check your current server ip for your map and then check again after a dc when you rejoin. Need some server stability. Send some guardians to fix it
I’ve thought about refreshing siege as part of participation too before as an incentive for people to do it but there are also inherent problems with abusing that too, for the moment I can’t think of something that might prevent it unless there is something like 1 refresh per siege for it’s countdown duration (so individual cannot spam participation) per tower/keep/area (this would be tricky in open field so maybe only applies to siege at keeps, towers or sm). Maybe someone else can figure a better way to implement it. In the end I think just leaving it alone as is and just educating the players is the way to go but this is easier done than said because people get lazy over time, see it happen frequently. In the end I can only trust myself to do it and only a handful of people which cannot always be there. I think this is ok in a way because it’s up to the servers players responsibility to do it, and if they don’t they risk things by not doing it (I’m seeing mostly the server loyal people doing it). Newer players don’t care though but they do love pulling tactivators that’s for sure…
Nice to hear someone having fun for a change, I hope it continues.
The usual overused “condi issue” put aside, I feel like the sudden influx of new players shifted the meta. I only play small scale, there’re encounters everywhere, and I’ve been seeing more and more power-stunlock builds the last two weeks.
Even power mesmers are now being a thing. So, anyone else has this feeling the new
metafashion is shifting ?
On my end I’ve seen an influx of necros especially in this last matchup, but now I also see a lot more classes and builds that I don’t get to see as often.
i bet the scouts and escorts who are ok with the rank have been playing wvw since launch, how about some who have only been playing a year or two, I bet they arent in range of 2k.
I started late January 2k16, 2252 here.
If you really have a hard on for this gear, and are really kittening about a small group of people who are getting a couple more pips, then just transfer to a low pop server and play outmanned; you’ll get +5. Or, you could try playing, be part of the solution, join the team, get in ts, join a guild, whatever, so that you’re placing 1st and get +2 pips.
Seriously, common. What a joke the OP is
Low pop servers are linked: it’s not been possible to find an outmanned map since reset on my server…
Your other solution is basically saying : join a bandwagon server so your placing first. Last time I looked the top 5 EU servers were all ‘full’ so that’s not going to work either.
The only real issue with pips is the spread between average rank and bandwagonned ranks in terms of pips is too large and needs a tweak. that would still give a bonus to higher ranks but not to the extent of 2.5 times more between a mid rank 2000+ and max rank for doing less work.
You can come to my server, it gets [Outnumbered] fairly often throughout the day on all maps :P
Hm I’ve only been getting them recently, gtx 1070 here as well, also a new driver just dropped a few days ago. Will check that other thread, thanks.
Anyone enjoying the sudden rise in droprates for ascended items? Wonder how long it will last XD but I am glad my wvw brethren are getting some. I don’t know if you guys are experiencing this but on my server it seems like many people including myself are dropping them more than usual.
Yes, because that’s exactly how people’s mind works. /s
At this point, I’m getting the impression that the ones acting so high and mighty, and being willfully ignorant don’t actually care about the state of “their game mode”. They are simply filled with unnecessary grudge (this is actually worse than sPvP). This has also been becoming far more evident from map/team/squad chats in WvW since the patch.
Every single logical argument is presented with the same 2 counter points (which are filled with errors and grudge), with literally no consideration of what is actually brought up: I played for so and so years before the patch, therefore I deserve rewards and you don’t unless you play so and so years…or…people don’t need an incentive to play and start liking a game mode.
Well, you can continue on being willfully ignorant, but you’ll only be killing “your game mode”. I must thank ANet for the great job they did by stirring up a kitten storm with their effort to improve “your game mode”, that you don’t actually seem to care for – people like you, being willfully ignorant seems to only care about themselves. Well, I’m sure you’ll enjoy your dead game mode soon enough.
I’m not trying to be ignorant. In fact if trying to encourage and teach people in game that are new to wvw and how to enjoy it is being ignorant, then that I am. Sorry but I am not one of these “high and mighty”,“willfully ignorant”, “filled with unecessary grudge” that you speak of. The incentive to play and start liking wvw has never been about rewards (just look how long it took for them to even be implemented), but to say that the new update hasn’t done that… now THAT is ignorance.
Looks like someone didn’t have a Mallyx resist spam Rev in their squad/party… idk at least they changed how Epi functioned, if only slightly.
Condis only hurt when you don’t know how to fight vs them or don’t know what to watch for. You will typically lose a lot until you learn this. Some classes have more ways to deal with it than others (resistance, stealth/mobility, range, lots of clears, evades…etc). Its a matter of wanting to adapt and learning. If one doesnt want to learn to adapt or learn, then they deserve to lose.
I do agree with this.
If they are interested in the game mode then shinies would be secondary to it, not the defining reason why they are there.
Speaking of which, is it me or are there more necro’s playing now? lol..
I haven’t seen any bullying on my server with regards to this, however it’s kind of hilarious that I did experience this early last year when I was new to the game mode – someone from my server, upon my entrance into the map went haywire in map chat and told whoever just entered the map to leave because he wanted the outnumbered buff. He was raging (mind you this person is still around to this day but probably has forgotten this incident, but it sticks in my mind till this day – he is even in this forum :P) so in the end I told him even though I wanted to play that I will leave for his sake just so they could have their buff.
In any case I think the +5 pip is a good incentive for some of us who’ve always been experiencing [Outnumbered], and yes it’s unfortunate that it can lead to map hopping but honestly with all the people that have been playing now I find it hard to believe many servers stay outnumbered for long. I can say this is something that is low priority, and why be mad anyway? These pip seekers are probably for those new shinies so they will get out of our hair sooner or later.
Anet, don’t change it. Let those serious about wvw commit themselves. It’s not about the shinies anyway. Let’s not make it just about those things. Lowering it won’t change anything if they are going to leave after getting it. Leave it as is.
A few months ago some guilds on my server were interested in using it (I think that’s when it was implemented, or at least when I was made aware of it in wvw) – if I am not mistaken they had a discussion about it and for about a week or so we did mention it on chat to encourage people to use it but the suggestion seemed to die out as fast as it was brought up. Since then I have not heard anyone mention it anymore and that was many months ago.
My primary #1 hope for the update is that my ping does not go into oblivion :o
What about diminishing return on pips for constant server hopping? :P something like that?
I agree, 3 weeks seems a little too short to mean anything close to “server loyalty”, it’s too casual a sense of the word for that time frame – it needs to be a more substantial and solid amount of time to have any sense of ‘server loyalty’. This is something you have to commit to.
I think the 3 weeks should be for duration of server pairings instead.
Aha! Looks like I was right about skirmish being like a reward track.
Its sounds good over all. I hope this rewards work out well i can see the maps becoming a bit tag happy with getting added rewards for being a commander with at least 5 ppl. Every one going to be a commander lol.
I guess now nobody can complain of there being no tags around XD
Ok, maybe it’s time to one of the wvw noobs talk about wvw and the first impression he got. I am a PvE player who hate every kind of PvP. I am really hate it in the last 5 years, but I joined the big fight because I want two Gift of Battles and some Ascalonian Tears too. I don’t have to say for what reason I reckon
So there was the time I traveled to one of the wvw maps and I didn’t have a kittened clue what the kitten I had to do to get that kittened Gifts. There were the map chat ofc, but a greenhorn most likely shut up when two commanders and the scouts are talking about whoknowwhat
No mentor in wvw, so I checked the LFG (as a pve’r it’s a reflex nowdays) for a kind group to learn about this fight, but nothing I found ofc.
I ended up joining a squad and run in a middle of a big group (now I know this was a “zerg”) and I think I just learnt the most boring and braindead way to play this gamemode.
Fortunately I found some kind people to show me the tricks, and learnt so much from this forum too. Now I kinda like this fight, but if I had the tool to find them more easily…
TL;DR I think, the LFG system update is a huge step forward and I really mean it.
This post basically outlines what I mentioned I thought what the changes to lfg would be beneficial to. I think many who pve would be more inclined to use lfg instead of asking in map so this would be a much more convenient way for them to find people to group up with. This is also the reason I try to respond in chat whether or not a new person asks, I just put in /m or /t if anyone has any questions or if they don’t know anything to ask and someone will usually be inclined to answer, at least on my server. I also have random people inviting me to party and I do not decline those either, I let them go around or I lead the way and try to show them some action and also do moderately safer stuff away from gankers and zergs so they don’t get put off from the game mode if possible. I am curious to see what impacts this will bring from those people that are coming from pve and whether it will make them become more involved, as well as more smaller groups forming so it’s not just one blob.
Maybe they should extend that 3 weeks to match the duration of pairings.
(has that changed? I was under the impression it was still 2 months).
Maybe pve people are used to the lfg system so it’s easier for them to integrate into wvw looking for groups and jump in straight away. That or maybe it’s for all the shy people hehehe.
I don’t mind dealing with ghost trapper thieves, but the other ghost thieves (pow/cnd) are still around, they become a hassle when 2-3 or them knock you around. Still if it’s just one it’s fine because they are mostly predictable. I find the high evade thieves are probably more troublesome to deal with, especially if you have a high ping or lag spikes like I do.
I’d say probably certain ranger builds I dislike the most, the ones built to troll around keeps and make people chase them. I think many classes can do this though but that staff 3 lets them even jump across certain terrain like some places in ebg so it cuts you off from getting to them, but props to them for learning the map really well.
All in all though I don’t mind as much as I just learn to accept that people want to play like that because maybe that is the only way they can play without dying and I guess that is their form of enjoyment.
I do recall a long long time ago it was said that they would be figuring a way to deal with skirmish rewards so that it wouldn’t be unfair or encourage server stacking – I am a bit iffy though on how this will be accomplished. Maybe losing servers just take time to get the same rewards maybe (like some kind of skirmish track)? Dunno… that still sucks the way some servers are always going to be the losers if the current and recent matchups are anything to go by.
Red here atm and definitely not winning… we’re last place :P
The responses in this thread are all that is really needed to be said. That said it will take time for you to become “battle ready” for wvw – from gear to choosing opponents and where to be without being ganked etc. It really is fun though once you get into it, honest. Once you learn how to deal with certain builds you become less frustrated with encounters and instead welcome them so you can learn something new even if you get killed. I actually enjoy seeing someone siege my body because that means I gave them enough of a hard time for them to do such. Don’t give too much thought about getting ganked out of nowhere, players in any game would usually do that kind of thing given the chance. Best thing for newer players is to go in bigger groups to familiarize themselves with the map but most of all situational awareness. Harvest camp nodes like it’s your last meal cos you never know who’s lurking, but if you at least look around you can see them going into stealth or approaching from a mile away.
My 2 favorites are:
Condi reaper – full cancer – cause after playing this game since early launch I got so bored with power builds I actually quit for a while. Luckily then A-Net decided to do the 1st round of serious condi boosts. Honestly condi builds in general, except for my healers, is whats still interesting for me, not just in WVW but across all game modes.
Full heals tablet rev – the only healing power / power toon I still enjoy that is not condi. Its awesome, just awesome and very powerful in the right team. IMHO leaves every other profession and their heal builds in the dust, but unfortunately, it takes a good commander and a somewhat competent team comp to take advantage of it, so doesn’t get played too often except guild runs or the more serious open raids sponsored and ran by guilds that know what they’re doing.
The 2 builds that I dislike ? There really aren’t any. If you played the game long enough then you realize theres a hard counter for everything, you just need to allocate half the time you spend on complaints into actually putting yours together. If you get sent to the spawn, just bust it out and its payback time.
I tend to see it like you do and I like your views. I like to try every class/build/weaponset that I can because it’s actually fun to see what makes them work and the counters involved. When I get killed mercilessly by a roamer/ganker/zerg/whatever do I salty message them? No. I move on and try to learn the heck out of what I didn’t do right cos I know besides getting better there may be something I can do to my build that may counter it the next time I come across it, or at least I’ll be able to handle it better. I think all these people who salty message need to take this into consideration no matter how mad they get, if they change their mode of thinking they might be surprised of how less stressful it can be by just letting go and moving on and instead try getting motivated into finding out how to beat the enemy no matter how many times you die. I admire people that keep coming back after being killed so many times – people will often call that noobish but in the end they are trying to deal with it and learn. It may look silly overall like “haha noob doesn’t learn his lesson” but at least they try.
Hay bales are too small. Ezio got an entire cart of hay to land in….
Not too long ago I was jumping off the cliff near Bauer to that hay bale below and someone jumped just after I did. I hit exactly in the middle of the bale but due to lag it did this weird “slide” forward (your character remains in the falling prone position) but only after I hit the ground and I insta died lol. The guy that jumped after me actually landed way off center from me and did not die, and he was also shocked that I died. Funny what lag can do hehe.
ghost thief cause I’m sure we all still have PTSD from that godforsaken build.
I use it but it is just so godkitten satisfying 100-0ing someone from stealth. I literally feel like a jumpscare straight out of a horror game and for that reason, I just can’t get enough of the build.
Kthen
kek!
My server had Desert borderlands as home for 2 weeks now and it finaly saw some play from pug commanders. Let me tell you, that they just don’t know the map and are always, ALWAYS taking the long way.
Oh i’m at north shrine, i want to go to south and we have all 3 of them, goes though the keep!??!?!?! WTF take the new travel mechanic.
People not knowing you can aproach earth keep from south since like May last year and still going basicly to eather of the shrines or even to the side towers.
Having lava and not using it. Having windfall and going down the stairs. Having launch pads and not using them to basicly skip half the obstacles on the way.
As a smaller group you can quite easily evade a pug blob as opposed to alpine when you just get rolled over or chased around the whole map.
Pretty much only thing still wrong with this borderland is fear on firelord and that freaking circle on windlord, i kinda like earth lords effects, except for when it creates inner ring of stone and spins.
Btw, your ideas OP are kitten.
Totally agree with your points, but I don’t mind firelord as much as I hate necro lord lol [I just wanted to try see if I could solo him]. Finding all the ways to travel on the map does make you wonder why people don’t even bother trying to find it or are still annoyed with it. It’s like they refuse to give it a chance despite the changes, but it really is a great map once you learn it. Granted, if you are against blob servers and you are red bl and get air, fire, earth and shrines taken all the time I could see why they might get frustrated, but that frustration would be for any bl if you get blobbed 24/7 anyway. On the server I am on we try to hold on to what close community we have left and try to motivate each other and help when we can through all maps – I know some only like eb, some only like alpine, and some only dbl but they all come through when help is needed. If you can find people like this [not directed at you, just everyone in general that hate xx map] maybe it will take your mind off so that you just concentrate on fighting the enemy instead of focusing hate on that particular map. For me the maps are the least of the problem really, it’s the population imbalance I feel is a bigger problem that leads to demotivation/no comms tagging up etc. I see this snowball effect time and time again regardless of what map is given.

It’s been getting horrible for me with each weekly matchup the past month or so. This weeks new matchup I had a brief unlagged period at reset surprisingly and then it was back to being horrid.
Yeah, it needs some changes for sure. Pretty useless unless you have them every xxxx range all over the map – I can’t remember if it overrides stacks like supply depots with traits for swiftness do but I will have to retest with my spring rolls.
No.
I’ve been condi bombing siege since tuesday with this. It does a lot of damage but enemy CC means a lot of the time the necro is unable to cast it before being overwhelmed by zerg.
Coordinating lots of necros to do it would be another thing. Someone wants to deprive the zerg of their damage dealers?
Speaking of zerg, I notice that this ability is very situational;
- My main gripe is that it’s utter garbage against enemy thieves
- Enemy zergs don’t walk through it
- If I put my toon in harm’s way to drop it, either I get CC’d in such a way that I can’t cast it or the enemy commander runs his zerg through me
Conclusion: Plaguelands is a neat idea on paper, but it’s too impractical. Having said this, the rest of the options are
extremely crapunderwhelming, too, so I guess I’ll leave it there until I decide that I want my shout back.
I have to mostly agree with this – it requires a bit of setup and the odds are mostly against you but when you manage to somehow get it off it’s pretty awesome. That said cast time will most likely get you killed, enemies worth their salt will move out of it anyway, and you will be lucky to get out alive. Against a thief you will probably fail to use it the majority of the time, so best use something else. It works mostly against newbies so it should be called PlagueTheNewbiesLands XD. I tend to drop it only when I am not in focus and I can use teammates as shields so I can drop it on low health or downs and epi them.
Rank resets kind of sound appealing – maybe something else in addition to that besides swap limits.
There are also those kind of people that like to message cos you’re the closest they can click to. One time this guy got killed and I was just walking past and he instantly messaged me with so much salt I thought I was the dead sea. Kind of hilarious as I was only passing and the people that killed him were already out of his range.
Are salt whispers really a bad thing? I mean not only can you report them, it makes good humor when you save screenshots and pass it around.
Sorta like trophies, even for someone like me that gets offended really easily.
I sometimes feel like I am not performing well if I don’t get the usual salty message. I can tell you that the weekend is usually chock full of salties. I’ve never been able to lower myself to salty message but I like to screenshot and collect the ones I receive. Rarely do I reply, but sometimes it’s fun because you can turn them into a friend and have a chuckle about it later. Since the linkings it’s been funny because I’ve had blocks from before the links and you get to see how those people really are when you are paired with their server – some of them are just bad like that in behaviour, whilst others just been having a bad day and need to vent.
Use a ranged weapon. And STAND STILL when you fire it! If you stand still it will automatically turn you and activate no matter how many times they get behind you.
Other than that…. learn to chain ur dodges, watch ur surroundings, anticipate when they break stealth and dodge the initial blows. Don’t chase them, don’t try to outsustain them or wait out their rotations. Also keep in mind they have a block most of them take that has only a 12sec cd or something…so proc ur unblockable if u have one when they put their fists up.
Is that with autotarget/snap to ground enabled or does it work without it?
“RoF+AG match-up is a joke been steamrolled by Gandara for 30 hours in a row now only letting of a few hours to steamroll Drakkar.”
This.
So much fun to be pvd/karmatrained all day and night, makes for a “good” morale boost indeed.. And no, not the first time either tyvm.
Go wvw, everything is either this or that color, can´t be kitten d to even try.
Do dailies, log out.
Tyvm.(And no, the grass isn´t greener on the other servers). I refuse to give anet more silly gems for transferring off this server, so it´ll be dailies and then go do something else whilst this crap lasts.
Yeah, and the demotivation creates a snowball effect – funny I mentioned this to the other wvw ag post and now we are paired lol – but true this wouldn’t be the first time and definitely it happens on other servers. I still fight what I can and to try motivate the others but I know in the end it’s an uphill battle with that in mind, I can only do so much until those other people start leaving again. We in this tier tend to get the short end of the stick like a neglected child where the fat blobby child gets all the food.
I think possibly gari too (leap from outer to inner)? Or is it still there
Nope, been there done that, bought new mouse, used other mouse, etc so in my case it isn’t that either
It’s not that, at least in my case [mine is disabled]. Also I’ve tested with 4-5 other mouse [and I just bought a logitech g600 recently as well, the other mouse were razer, logitech, microsoft, etc] that still exhibit the problems. Also in my case this seemingly happens mostly when there is lags [for example in wvw, with zergs or the usual lag spikes from servers] which leads to a lot of deaths. Sometimes it just happens randomly out of the blue where right clicking doesn’t “catch” at all. Previously there was a post on reddit about it and a dev posted a response but it was never talked about again whether or not they found out what was causing the problem and whether that person got it fixed. This is one I’d like to see fixed, but I know many don’t have this problem, but it does exist. Polling or dpi issue? Who knows. Let’s get to the bottom of this
I’m going to refer y’all back to https://www.pingplotter.com/fix-your-network — that guide helps understand not just where problems are happening, but where the latency comes from, how stable it is, etc.
If you are concerned about your in-game “ping” reports, you can use that (or similar tools like WinMTR) to help identify if there is anything that could be done to improve the situation.
The one thing I can tell you is that, absent packet loss or excessive buffering on the path, none of the “make your system faster” things out there really work — the VPN based ones cannot reduce latency if they travel over the same troubled part of the Internet, and the “tune your local TCP settings” ones or whatever … snake-oil.
Well of course it would be affected it it took the same routing. In any case it can also help, which it has in some cases for me. For anyone with a lower latency it would most likely not make a difference and in some cases it can be worse due to the overhead, but in my case it’s an improvement.
Where in Asia are you? 150-200 seems like a quite good ping for normal connection in SEA. When the connections are not acting up I can only get around 220 on the very best days [of course not anymore, rare that connections to the servers are not acting up, especially in wvw]. I’m in E. Malaysia. I’ve had to hop on several different vpns just to find an optimal connection – it’s tiring but that happens to be my only option these days, although some vpns can also still be affected by those high lag spikes. I can tell you first off nothing will be done. I usually seem to have more luck with 206.127.159.* servers compared to 206.127.146.* ones for some reason but not all the time. I’ve all but given up on any hopes that lag will get looked into, especially in wvw. I play in EU.
I always thought, similar to a lord, that a wall or gate hit points should increase based on the enemy zerg calculated to be near by.
A small team or roaming crew should not have to suffer anymore than they already have because of the karma train lovers and HoT introduction.
That would be kind of cool in a way if they did that to gates/walls too but I could see a problem with it that could act as a workaround for zergs – they could just stand out of range from the area and just let a few people set up siege and wait for them to break in so they don’t trigger the scaling (also long range siege).
